Went to my favorite bog yesterday but oh no! There was actually enough water there to warrant boots (last time I visited it was just a bit muddy). Good news, I brought my boots, bad news, I ripped a hole in my boots while I was on an island. I did get to finally do something on my wishlist: actually touch a blooming western swamp laurel (my beloved).

So we all know how Ianthe became a Lyctor for “ultimate power—and posters of [her] face.”

And I'm sure someone made a nice icon.

But you know who would have definitely gotten a poster of their face? Coronabeth.

Think about it: every House but the Ninth has lost a scion. In a culture that thrives on melodrama and the conspicuous consumption of death, there is a wave of hysterical funerary fervour to mourn their lost leaders. And the Third - the House of glitz, trendsetting, and political intrigue - has lost its beloved Crown Princess.

We don't know a huge amount about funerals in the Nine Houses, but we do know a bit about Third House funerals:

The front coffin is distinguished from its fellows by its gorgeous arrangement of flowers and wreaths. The flowers are all in hues of gold or violet, and are fake. The coffin is hinged open at the front, with its contents hidden from view by the flowers. A tray of meat is rested on the closed bottom half of the coffin. A queue of gaudily masked mourners process past the coffin, slowly, each one taking a strip of meat, then stopping by the head to lean within—kissing or feeding; we can’t be sure. - TUG

Apparently, a Third House funeral - unsurprisingly for flesh magicians - focuses on the physical. The reverence of/fear of/(lust for?) the body. A wake on steroids. But they received no body for Coronabeth. So I can only imagine larger than life posters of Corona decked with flowers, the weeping crowds surging through the streets of Ida, etc etc... Poor Ianthe, second place once again to a 'corpse'.

Moving past Ianthe to House funerary customs in general, and to the awful aftermath of the Lyctor trials in particular, it seems especially unfair that neither of the flesh magic Houses got a body back to mourn. Obviously Corona wasn't actually dead, but for those who believed her to be, the lack of a body for such visceral funerary rights must have been traumatic.

We don't have as many details of Seventh funerals, but the House famous for it's "beguiling corpses" likely also focuses much of its post-mortem ritual around the body. Dulcie suggests that the deceased might even leave specific instructions in their will about the appearance of their corpse:

Meanwhile, the Fourth, Fifth, and Eighth receive their perfect pairs of "statuesque and incorruptible" bodies, preserved beyond the wildest dreams of the Seventh. These Houses are all spirit magicians. The Fourth, for whom thanergetically detonating oneself on a battlefield far from the rays of Dominicus isn't unheard of, almost certainly have funerary rites that don't presuppose a body. And the Fifth, whose necromantic practice is far more concerned with the spirit than the body, likely centre their most significant funerary rites around the ghost.

Y'know, the bit they don't have? Just as the flesh magicians of the Third and Seventh would have been unable to mourn their lost scions with rites around the body, the Fifth would have been unable to call their ghosts, trapped in Harrow's River bubble.

So amidst all the grief and awfulness, and the Emperor refusing to answer any questions about what happened (why are they all dead? Why are so many bodies missing? Where are the ghosts? Why are the bodies so creepily perfect?), half the Houses can't even mourn their dead in the way they normally would.

Aaahhh I love this. I love almost every Team Awesome au, esp au’s that involve them growing up together (think Dark Kingdom au’s) 

I can absolutely see Edmund trusting Quirin with his child, out of all the Brotherhood, he is the most responsible and mature. I think Quirin would be a great Uncle. He is a bit emotionally distant, but other than that, he is clearly very loving and supportive. (I mean, Varian was allowed to continue alchemy after blowing up his town. That’s pretty supportive lmao)

(Quirin decided to move far away and wants to form a new life, which is why he keeps everything about his past life hidden. Which makes me wonder if he would even tell Eugene about his true lineage. I can honestly see him telling Eugene that his father died, not seeing the need to tell him that he’s a prince if his kingdom has fallen; and Quirin wants nothing to do with that life anymore. He’s a very secretive guy. But that’s just me.)

And Eugene and Varian would grow up to be insanely close. Eugene would absolutely introduce him to Flynn Rider and Varian would adore and look up to him. I can see them being mischievous and getting into trouble together, and causing chaos all around Old Corona. Eugene would be an amazing brother, even if he’s a bad influence XD. All the possibilities :0 I love these boys. Eugene would grow up to give his uncle grey hairs, and train Varian to give his father grey hairs. But Eugene is also a very protective guy and is emotionally mature. He would be the best thing for Varian. And they are both very loved and adored. An adorable lil family.

Eugene is a generally rebellious guy, that could explain why he would be a thief. Maybe he learns about his past and runs away and becomes a thief? He keeps in contact with Varian occasionally but Var is sworn to secrecy. (I don’t like this one as much because I hate this type of conflict) Maybe he’s just a part time thief and steals occasionally for kicks (and to help provide for Varian) Maybe he’s not a thief at all, and he and Varian are adventuring and that’s how they find Rapunzel’s tower. Maybe he finds Rapunzel’s tower by just wandering around. And he introduces her to his family (maybe she decides to stay with them, and doesn’t realize she’s the lost princess.) Those are just some ideas.

Tell me more about your Quirin Raises Eugene AU 👀 (please 🙏🏻)

I would love to.

A lot of fics that I read when I first came to enjoy the fandom naturally ended up Varian centric or a rewrite of season 2 just because of the flavor of fic that I was interested in at the time. And a lot of those hit on this idea or rather strangeness to the fact that Quirin seems to just abandon the Brotherhood altogether, where at least Hector and Edmond were still guarding the Moonstone and Adira was looking for a legit solution in the Sundrop. So the question I started to ask myself was why. Why did he choose to be a farmer as far away from the Dark Kingdom as possible? Certainly a desire to just be done with the entire ordeal and forget OR more reasonably that it was simply Quirin’s strategy to keep his portion of the Demanitus scroll safe, it seems like what maybe canon was going for, but then I thought, as all AUs start out, what if…

What if Quirin was *ordered* to do this? By Edmond. What if he was charged with taking his portion of the Demanitus scroll and getting as far as humanly possible away from the Dark Kingdom WITH the baby prince. To Corona. Edmond would have left his son in the protection of someone he trusted with his own life and maybe if the conditions were right, eventually share the true lineage with the boy, but ultimately live a quiet happy life in the knowledge that he was never abandoned. After all, in canon, Eugene grows up in an orphanage awfully close to Corona. So I would say that as a headcanon, Eugene’s actual caretakers lost him in some way, shape, or form SO close to their goal, but had the same intent to perhaps remain in close proximity to Quirin while raising Eugene.

So the AU skips the middleman and just says that Edmond ordered Quirin to take the baby and get as far away from the moonstone as possible and to live as a family. Quirin goes to Corona and sets up his farm, raises the prince as his own. Eventually meets Varian’s mom. Alchemy boy comes along and now we’ve got a brothers AU (this is where most of my fun would be in for this AU).

The parts I really wrestle with this is how much this would change Eugene’s life motivation. I think Varian is a good testament that Eugene would get into the Flynn Rider books at some point anyway because they’re fun overall books, but Eugene wouldn’t have the motivation or need to *become* Flynn Rider. He’s got a family. He has that security, and Quirin would absolutely let Eugene follow his interests. Perhaps he feels a need to provide more for his family? This needs a lot more workshopping (this is a cry for suggestions and thoughts).

But it would be a fun way to add series lore into the movie events, which is a thought exercise that I do enjoy.

There is no way of softening this. Coronabeth Tridentarius has already been radicalised.

Camilla Hect's opinion is that the whole Tridentarii stratagem was the initiative of Ianthe Tridentarius. Though I was taken in by the twins' swindle I am not taken in by this. Coronabeth Tridentarius has never been party to anything she did not want to do, and never successfully carried out a plan she didn't think up first.

When you give yourself to someone else, their soul shows in yours by the eye colour; that's why you'll never see me looking out of Camilla's face with my own eyes again."

hi! i recently subscribed to the pateron, and im a little intimidated by all of the extra content available, lol. in your opinion, what are some of the funniest short rest / dungeon court / mixed bag episodes to start with? (if anyone else also has their fave eps to share please do)

oh wonderful! welcome to the best stupid show(s) money can buy.

i’m gonna operate under the assumption you’re caught up on main feed eps but if i suggest a short rest for an episode you haven’t listened to, definitely hit the episode first.

these are just off the top of my head with ones i can remember what they are, i may come up with more later lol

short rests:

i think short rests 99 and 100 should actually be required listening for everyone, they’re fucking earth shattering. start there.

the one for 70 is stupid and reveals how they almost lost the episode so that’s a good one.

c3e22 has one of the most insane short rests in retrospect. and c3e41 also has a bonkers short rest. they talk about santa manscaping in your bathroom. the episode came out in august. i wept.

c2e41’s campaign wrap up short rest also is a good time and gives good insights on the campaign.

the short rest for the can they kill it is the origin of crabster. 77 has a rose before noon. 91 ends with jake saying something so insane it ruins me.

the short rest for caldwells frooze your own adventure also slaps. the wilson brothers are there.

the brussels hookup is another 8bbc short rest that’s so dumb and beautiful.

c3e54 has them all hyped up on too much caffeine after a mixed bag and talking about jumping off decks onto frozen lakes and landing on one boob and one butt cheek. i wish i was kidding. it’s incredible.

dungeon courts:

i’m mostly gonna highlight patreon dungeon courts with the assumption you’ve listened to the corresponding main feed eps.

king robert can klump ft. ally beardsley. the flintstones costume fun around the house. you don’t know what that means but it’s. something.

a little place called mangia’s. murph breaks down. caldwell loses it. jake turns to google.

yuncle ft. jasper william cartwright. rats ride loose and your yuncle is power hungry.

the video dungeon courts are great, you can see murph lose it.

bird jail ft. zac oyama. actually anything with zac oyama. it’s great.

table rattlers ft. jeremy cobb. i don’t remember what happens exactly but it’s great.

the dm’s judge ft. lou wilson and zac oyama. absolutely iconic bench on this one.

mixed bags:

mixed bag tier my beloved!! so many are so good!

the whole blazing babe chronicles. not enough people know there was a second hot boy summer campaign that’s available on the mixed bag. caldwell spills half a corona on his character sheet. it’s a dry july and the boys are Not on the same page about it. love is love is love returns.

the biggest loreser is new but damn if it isn’t impeccable. warning: the fred flintstone noise is fucking LOUD

all the taste tests (energy drinks, m&ms, and gamer energy drinks). jake tries an expired products. jake later forgets to buy peanut m&ms while emily decides she can taste what color an m&m is. murph gets hyped on caffeine and has to take a break resulting in one of the most insane short rests to date. listen to the short rest first, it’s funnier that way.

if you can listen to live shows, (the sound is sometimes challenging) i recommend those. great starting point is the melbourne one from last year, i laughed so much the first time i heard it. “i was a lurking actor. that’s a union job!” also the boston dungeon court did hit the main feed but started as a mixed bag and i was there so i want to shout it out.

emily’s winter solstice one shot!! brennan and siobhan are there and it’s creepy and truly so fun.

both dungeons and dragons movies. jake and emily gaslight murph. they talk about a truly terrible set of films. there’s someone called grape lady that is a highlight.

both spilltaculars. at times a bit cringe, but it’s fun to hear other people’s failures sometimes because then you feel better about yourself. plus they make up a judgement scale that is different every time.

spellcheck! the game show that’s kinda sweeping the nation. or was. it’s fun.

that’s long (oops) and all i can think of off the top of my head. if people have other faves, share them for new patreon people!

also, my last bit of advice is to join the streams if you can. jake’s stream is for the short rest tier and above and caldwells is for the mixed bag tier and above. they’re wild. we had caldwell drawing everyone in crocs for like 6 months (it’s arguably why we’re getting the jibbitz). sometimes you get tucker lore. (tucker, the fictional man jake’s wife is cucking him with.) they’re grand.

Would just like to add weight to this by pointing out that her BOE name is ‘Crown Him with Many Crowns’. If Jod married Corona he’ll be crowned with another crown. to celebrate, i’m just going to list seven moments hypmic irrevocably changed the trajectory of my entire life lmao

1️⃣ buying the lives was probably the best worst thing i could have ever done to myself lmao. by the time i’d realised you could buy them, only the 2nd&3rd lives were out on dvd (they’re bundled together on one set), and though it wasn’t the first hypmic purchase i made, it kicked off the lives obsession lol. the 2nd live in particular blew my mind lol it was the first time most of the cast were on stage for hypmic and i’ll never forget the happy surprise on kijima-san’s face when the crowd screamed along to his call and response parts in drb lol. on top of that, kimura beatboxed live on stage confirming it really was ichiro beatboxing, shiraimu and nozu in lieu of souma-san’s absence gave it their all singing his parts and nozu dropped the sickest freestyle, and the samajuto cigarette kiss was born and so thoroughly rewired everyone’s brains, it just became part of samatoki’s character lmao

2️⃣ this list very easily can be just about the lives lol but i also loved getting to watch them live lol. forever and always 🖕🖕corona but getting to sidestep around abema’s booboo dookie region locks to watch the 5th live set off a precedence for needing to live watch them lmao. it’s probably the snowball that kicked off the avalanche that convinced me to try to go to japan for the first time in ten years, give or take, and bat’s 8th live day two was their most special live yet lmao

3️⃣ ITS NOT A LIVE ITS A STREAM LOL but the moment the kuukou brainrot roundhouse kicked me in the face was watching kuukou’s spirit possess hayama-san in real time lol i would have saved myself from so much heartbreak if i had stayed a matenhoe but nooooooo kuukou had to manifest in his seiyuu and i haaaaaad to watch it happen live and now i’m kuukou’s btch 🙄

4️⃣ wanna know how i became a matenrou stan lol???? jakurai’s voice introducing matenrou to the world in drb and hifumi flexing the love his women give to him makes him filthy rich lmao

5️⃣ i’ve felt a lot of frustration whilst mucking about in hypmic land, but i don’t think i have ever experienced as frustrating emotional rollercoaster ride more than the one hypstage has taken me on lmao!!!!! hypmic sneakily changing their description of the franchise from ‘voice project’ to ‘multimedia project’ when it was announced, okay actually showing a fantastic story despite hypmic’s ‘lack’ of one back in the day, nagosaka getting introduced and giving us simultaneously the best and ‘worst’ depiction of kuukou, only exclude them in the following tracks lmaooo, creating a really cool concept for mixing division pairs with an oridivi only for it to get cancelled like genuinely 🖕🖕covid but rolling up with the greatest comeback in the form of the rep lives where in the middle of the run we were given the best kuukou performance yet, shortly followed by the announcement that everyone was graduating!!!!!!!! but bop 2023 was magical; a fantastic send off to a legendary cast and closure to the pinnacle of stage production and hypmic storytelli— the stage was rebooted six months later in an absolute betrayal that was quite literally assuaged my love for hypmic, hatred for nelke and getting REAL WOMEN on stage lmao

6️⃣ and so like lemme circle back around to bat’s 8th live lmao. do you know how crazy that time was lol???? bat stans threw together a really sick flower display at a local flower shop, crowdfunded to make the lights display in this popular mall in nagoya shine purple for them, bars dedicating drinks for bat and welcoming live goers for an after party drink, day two of the live fell on bat’s 3rd anniversary and a few days prior they dropped the bright and dark mv for hypstage and the hella awesome banquet mv that bat stans ripped to shreds analysing jp bat fans my BELOVED lmao november is truly a bat month lol but anyway the 8th live was a peak time and i miss it daily!!!!!!!!

7️⃣ instead of being really gross and sappy about kuukou or the piece of merch that got me into hypmic lol shoutout to the music like actually lol. dba locked me in the moment i listened to it and i think very fondly of those days going thru the youtube for more lol. gave me a refreshed appreciation for music, esp jp music, got me to listen to more music instead of the couple hundred or so songs i’ve been listening to since i was in middle school LOL. so thanks hypmic, for giving me peak dissociation songs (like tigridia), the hypest shit that had me yelling (like moonlight shadow) and songs that had my heart racing at 3 in the morning and thoroughly unable to sleep lol (can you believe kaigen exists in this world and they let that shit drop during bat vs mtr 6th live and bc the bat seiyuu’s stage presence is just top tier they blew it out of the park frame one and she says the brainrot didn’t truly settle until live watching hayama-san get possessed but the damage was truly done listening to that calced cacophony of noise and in the ensuing silence as hayama-san’s ‘kaigen’ echoed throughout the studio OH IM GOING TO BE SICK—)

for a boring headcanon, Eugene hates fish and seafood but he pretends to like it because Corona is an ocean country so seafood is beloved there and he doesn’t want to seem out of place, and seafood is fine dining and he wants to seem wealthy. No one else likes seafood except for Rapunzel.

Okay but Eugene faking enjoying seafood is so funny. I’m imaging his disgusted face trying to muster up eating a shrimp. He poked pathetically at his lobster and- oh my gosh I think I saw it move!!!! For real though he has champagne taste, and even after his redemption, he still needs to prove himself as a classy high society member (esp since now he is a high society member)

I think Lance canonically likes caviar, and he seems like someone who would like seafood. Varian to me will eat just about anything as long as it’s technically edible. Cass I can see her liking fish for the vitamins, and Rapunzel, I can’t explain it but she hates seafood. Can’t stand it. Give her chicken nuggets instead. (Sorry I kinda inversed the last part of your headcanon lmao)
