one of the things that annoys me so bad right now is seeing letterboxd reviews about Lisa Frankenstein being like "she's such a horrible character", "those people didn't deserve to be killed" blah blah blah
SHUT UP
it's a horror romance!! a girl keeps a reanimated dead guy in her closet and falls in love with him! what did you think was going to happen? it's SUPPOSED to be fucked up and weird and that's part of its charm. quit being boring, let female characters (esp in horror) be messy and chaotic and morally gray.
#i really need to stop reading the low rating letterboxd reviews#i just get so curious about what people didnt like about movies#and most of the time they just make me annoyed lol#anywas go see this movie#i support womens rights and womens wrongs#lisa frankenstein#i love me a Frankenstein re-imagining#horror#horror hype#i live out my god complex through evil little scientists#<- thats my Frankenstein-esque media tag

"The number of teenage abortions in Finland fell by 66% between 2000 and 2023, its public health institute THL said on Monday, attributing the reduction to the offer of free contraception to adolescents and compulsory sex education in schools.
Finland also passed a law in 2022 liberalising abortion, at a time of deep divisions over abortion rights in Europe and court rulings in the U.S. that restricted access to terminations of unwanted pregnancies for millions of people there.
The number of abortions among women under 20 rose during the 1990s in Finland, which led the Nordic country to respond at the start of the 2000s by making morning-after pills available without prescription from 15 years of age and sexual education compulsory in all schools.
"We can assume that sexual education plays a significant role," THL's research professor Mika Gissler told Reuters, adding that increased access to contraception from a young age was another factor behind the change.
The number of abortions fell 66% to 722 in 2023 from 2,144 in 2000 among all teenagers aged 19 or younger in Finland, while the drop was even steeper at 78% among those under 18 in the same period, THL's statistics showed.
"Since the latter half of the 2010s, the decline in the number of young people's abortions has also been influenced by the introduction of free contraception in many welfare regions," THL wrote in a report...
Under the 2022 liberalisation, Finland from September 2023 stopped requiring women to give a reason for having an abortion, making it available upon a pregnant person's request during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
[Note: That's actually not a very long window for abortion! Many conservative states in the US have actually instituted 12-week bans, and it's caused terrible upheaval and limits to medical services. Sounds like Finland should liberalize further, imho! Still, important progress!]
THL said it was too early to conclude whether the legislative change, which took effect last year, will have an impact on the number of abortions."

One day you're working on videos on autoplay and another you watch a 50 minutes videos of how a user faked a democracy for discord political roleplay for 3 years and it's impact on the citizens and neighboring nations
Also the author of a book (related, don't ask) got a cease and desist from the united Nations and proceeded to change the name of it on april's fools
#this is simultaneously the coolest thing and the most insane i've ever heard in my life#seems to be a political roleplay discords which they make countries#i saw some of the countries entries and i've read incredible things#such as#“The average income tax rate is 98.9%.”#'Signatures have been replaced with illegible scribblesterrorists are on a first name basis with the officials that stamp their passports#“surveillance cameras are banned”#“teenagers performing appendectomies on their friends has become a popular schoolyard prank”#“prominent cultural symbols are featured on the backs of cereal boxes”

while i was reading the updated lore i got the idea for an atypical clan structure. how would a clan of centaur asexuals work?
i would imagine it would be a gaggle of individuals who are either uninterested or turned off from the idea of matriarch/entourage drama, gender nonconfirming individuals, and others who have little interest in siring young. since so much of centaur culture is centered around reproductive exclusivity, an entire clan that just- *doesn’t* want to have kids would be weird. im sure to most centaurs it would seem like a clan that’s missing a matriarch and her spouses, just entirely made up of workers.
Could certainly happen. Would make a potentially stable anarchist clan, but would have to recruit enough members over time to make up for the eventual deaths of older members, or split/merge with other similar clans. The same is true of a lot of same-sex clans, who generally also don't want kids.
I could... see anarchist political celibacy ideas (avoiding sex because it's seen as the element of chaos that makes anarchist clans fail) mixing with innately asexual individuals in messy ways, as well. I don't think discussion of asexuality among centaurs is neatly divided between preference and ideology, it certainly isn't for homosexuality or transexuality. They don't have the same history of medicalization or individualist identity politics that human sex and gender does. Sexuality either serves and protects the traditional clan hierarchy, or it doesn't. This is why heterosexual behavior is more heavily policed by most centaur cultures, because it only serves the clan structure if it occurs between a matriarch and their mates.
I think many asexual centaurs would strongly identify with their position as workers (who in most cultures are discouraged or forbidden from sex) and fit well into most conventional clan structures, though may be considered kind of uptight about The Rules or holier-than-thou by workers who are sexually involved (whether or not they actually have this attitude.) Some worker males might find themselves in trouble if they are young and pretty and their matriarch wants to marry them to an entourage for the political benefits (and to get a prettyboy out of the worker pool were they may be too popular with worker females) (again, regardless of their actual interests). Worker females might find themselves in trouble if they are the current matriarch's favorite pick for next in line. This is where asexual behavior would clash with the enforcement of traditional clan structure and break the bounds of acceptability.
#honestly given their social setup centaurs might have higher rates of asexuality or late onset sexuality#since non-reproductive individuals are important to the structure of most clans#jaytext#runaway to the stars#rtts centaurs

we really don't talk enough about what a wild decision it was for riverdale to hire famous new queer cinema director gregg araki to direct only the wrestling episode specifically to make it as uncomfortably homoerotic as possible and then never hire another outside guest director again.
#and this with arakis most mainstream famous film being about kids sexually abused by their sports coach and the long term effects of that#and this episode essentialy kickstarting the abusive dynamic that would derail archies life#so much going on here#huge brained as usual#riverdale#gregg araki#archie andrews#hiram lodge#i think they shouldve had john waters do an episode fuck the pg 13 rating

(separating this into its own post bc I need the validation of the radiostatic enjoyers)
Alastor absolutely believes that everyone else ALSO thinks that Vox is the most charming and attractive demon in hell, it's just an objective fact - just like how Vox is an annoying clout-chaser constantly trying to upgrade himself towards more and more validation
--
Like imagine, for whatever reason, Vox is at the hotel and he's bitching about Valentino, and Alastor is nearby because he doesn't like or trust Vox alone in HIS hotel.
Vox: And then the fucker said that he only sleeps with 10s AND Vox! That absolute bitch, how DARE he?! After everything we've built!
Alastor, confused: The distinction makes sense. I fail to see how THIS is the thing you take fault with, considering everything else lacking in the moth.
Vox, mortally offended that his rival-crush ALSO thinks he's ugly and trying to pretend he doesn't care about it: uh, FUCK YOU?!
Alastor, now both confused and offended: If he included you in the scale, no one else would rate a 10? Although I suppose it is true about what they say about television rotting the brain, if your offense is taken at a rare show of consideration and NOT the publicized and continuous cheating. Ha ha!
Vox is so caught off guard that his screen immediately glitches, and it's not until he does a full system reboot that he can even RESPOND to what Alastor just said.
Alastor is making fun of his flimsy technology when Vox comes to.
Angel is cracking up in the background, watching this entire thing go down.
Vox has no idea where to go from here.
#radiostatic#staticradio#staticlovetune#fic#mine#alastor#vox#hazbin hotel#hazbin alastor#hazbin vox#i had to make this its own post bc its too funny to me to not#its just even funnier to me if Alastor also doesn't realize that not everyone thinks Vox is the most attractive demon in hell#he just thinks its such a fact that it doesnt even occur to him to be embarrassed for admitting it#bc he's just like: Vox? that sellout? yeah hes the best looking demon in hell but that doesn't stop him from being an annoying clout chaser#Alastor sees Vox exactly like that one phineas and ferb episode where Phineas had to take out Isabella's cuteness to not break the tracker#like obviously Vox isnt a 10 because if HE'Sincluded on the scale then literally no one elsewould rate#Alastor voice: Why are you glitching and turning purple I'm insulting your intelligence here#Everybody Loves Vox AU

ACNH AU but it’s just Chil as Tom Nook giving out lax loans to people in need with his half-foot guild, and his close friend Isabelle Marcille helping out and hanging around. Been playing ACNH and came to the realization that Tom Nook & Isabelle give Chil & Marcille energy, and immediately had to draw it…
Man wanted to retire early but still hasn’t stopped. What I want for post-canon Chilchuck is just for him to have Tom Nook energy fr fr
#Dungeon meshi#acnh au#chilchuck tims#marcille donato#meijack#Flertom#Puckpatti#Chilchuck’s family#Marchil#To me they’re the Everything Everywhere All at Once thing where doing taxes together is the most romantic thing#At first I wasn’t gonna put Marcille in a pencil skirt but. She’s rocking it#Also was gonna give Mei tims shoes but forgot. She still got her knee-high shoes swag tho#The thing is Marcille DOES have dog energy it’s just that unlike Laios she’s like… A pomeranian or smth#Chil got divorced bc there were never non work-related vacations. Get that island cash my guy#I had fun putting details on the board#Saw a localization of Laios as Laois the other day and I have taken psychic damage#Listen I’m sure canon Chil has a very neat handwriting. Sorry for the character assassination#But also??? Illiterate rates have gotta be high for the Dungeon Meshi world right. I ponder it a lot#I am sorry that I accidentally made Chil look like Christopher Robin in that last one… I apologize

The danger is clear and present: COVID isn’t merely a respiratory illness; it’s a multi-dimensional threat impacting brain function, attacking almost all of the body’s organs, producing elevated risks of all kinds, and weakening our ability to fight off other diseases. Reinfections are thought to produce cumulative risks, and Long COVID is on the rise. Unfortunately, Long COVID is now being considered a long-term chronic illness — something many people will never fully recover from. Dr. Phillip Alvelda, a former program manager in DARPA’s Biological Technologies Office that pioneered the synthetic biology industry and the development of mRNA vaccine technology, is the founder of Medio Labs, a COVID diagnostic testing company. He has stepped forward as a strong critic of government COVID management, accusing health agencies of inadequacy and even deception. Alvelda is pushing for accountability and immediate action to tackle Long COVID and fend off future pandemics with stronger public health strategies. Contrary to public belief, he warns, COVID is not like the flu. New variants evolve much faster, making annual shots inadequate. He believes that if things continue as they are, with new COVID variants emerging and reinfections happening rapidly, the majority of Americans may eventually grapple with some form of Long COVID. Let’s repeat that: At the current rate of infection, most Americans may get Long COVID.
[...]
LP: A recent JAMA study found that US adults with Long COVID are more prone to depression and anxiety – and they’re struggling to afford treatment. Given the virus’s impact on the brain, I guess the link to mental health issues isn’t surprising. PA: There are all kinds of weird things going on that could be related to COVID’s cognitive effects. I’ll give you an example. We’ve noticed since the start of the pandemic that accidents are increasing. A report published by TRIP, a transportation research nonprofit, found that traffic fatalities in California increased by 22% from 2019 to 2022. They also found the likelihood of being killed in a traffic crash increased by 28% over that period. Other data, like studies from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, came to similar conclusions, reporting that traffic fatalities hit a 16-year high across the country in 2021. The TRIP report also looked at traffic fatalities on a national level and found that traffic fatalities increased by 19%. LP: What role might COVID play? PA: Research points to the various ways COVID attacks the brain. Some people who have been infected have suffered motor control damage, and that could be a factor in car crashes. News is beginning to emerge about other ways COVID impacts driving. For example, in Ireland, a driver’s COVID-related brain fog was linked to a crash that killed an elderly couple. Damage from COVID could be affecting people who are flying our planes, too. We’ve had pilots that had to quit because they couldn’t control the airplanes anymore. We know that medical events among U.S. military pilots were shown to have risen over 1,700% from 2019 to 2022, which the Pentagon attributes to the virus.
[...]
LP: You’ve criticized the track record of the CDC and the WHO – particularly their stubborn denial that COVID is airborne. PA: They knew the dangers of airborne transmission but refused to admit it for too long. They were warned repeatedly by scientists who studied aerosols. They instituted protections for themselves and for their kids against airborne transmission, but they didn’t tell the rest of us to do that.
[...]
LP: How would you grade Biden on how he’s handled the pandemic? PA: I’d give him an F. In some ways, he fails worse than Trump because more people have actually died from COVID on his watch than on Trump’s, though blame has to be shared with Republican governors and legislators who picked ideological fights opposing things like responsible masking, testing, vaccination, and ventilation improvements for partisan reasons. Biden’s administration has continued to promote the false idea that the vaccine is all that is needed, perpetuating the notion that the pandemic is over and you don’t need to do anything about it. Biden stopped the funding for surveillance and he stopped the funding for renewing vaccine advancement research. Trump allowed 400,000 people to die unnecessarily. The Biden administration policies have allowed more than 800,000 to 900,000 and counting.
[...]
LP: The situation with bird flu is certainly getting more concerning with the CDC confirming that a third person in the U.S. has tested positive after being exposed to infected cows. PA: Unfortunately, we’re repeating many of the same mistakes because we now know that the bird flu has made the jump to several species. The most important one now, of course, is the dairy cows. The dairy farmers have been refusing to let the government come in and inspect and test the cows. A team from Ohio State tested milk from a supermarket and found that 50% of the milk they tested was positive for bird flu viral particles.
[...]
PA: There’s a serious risk now in allowing the virus to freely evolve within the cow population. Each cow acts as a breeding ground for countless genetic mutations, potentially leading to strains capable of jumping to other species. If any of those countless genetic experiments within each cow prove successful in developing a strain transmissible to humans, we could face another pandemic – only this one could have a 58% death rate. Did you see the movie “Contagion?” It was remarkably accurate in its apocalyptic nature. And that virus only had a 20% death rate. If the bird flu makes the jump to human-to-human transition with even half of its current lethality, that would be disastrous.
#sars cov 2#covid 19#h5n1#bird flu#articles#long covid is def a global issue not just for those in the us and most countries aren't doing much better#regardless of how much lower the mortality rate for h5n1 may or may not become if/when it becomes transmissible between humans#having bird flu infect a population the majority of whose immune system has been decimated by sars2#to the point where the average person seems to have a hard time fighting off the common cold etc...#(see the stats of whooping cough/pertussis and how they're off the CHARTS this yr in the uk and aus compared to previous yrs?#in qld average no of cases was 242 over prev 4 yrs - there have been /3783/ diagnosed as of june 9 this yr and that's just in one state.#there's a severe shortage of meds for kids in aus bc of the demand and some parents visit +10 pharmacies w/o any luck)#well.#let's just say that i miss the days when ph orgs etc adhered to the precautionary principle and were criticised for 'overreacting'#bc nothing overly terrible happened in the end (often thanks to their so-called 'overreaction')#now to simply acknowledge the reality of an obviously worsening situation is to be accused of 'fearmongering'#🤷♂️#also putting long covid and bird flu aside for a sec:#one of the wildest things that everyone seems to overlook that conor browne and others on twt have been saying for yrs#is that the effects of the covid pandemic extend far beyond the direct impacts of being infected by the virus itself#we know sars2 rips apart immune system+attacks organs. that in effect makes one more susceptible to other viruses/bacterial infections etc#that in turn creates increased demand for healthcare services for all kinds of carers and medications#modern medicine and technology allows us to provide often effective and necessary treatment for all kinds of ailments#but what if there's not enough to go around? what happens when the demand is so high that it can't be provided fast enough -- or at all?#(that's assuming you can even afford it)#what happens when doctors and nurses and other healthcare workers keep quitting due to burnout from increased patients and/or illness#because they themselves do not live in a separate reality and are not any more sheltered from the effects of constant infection/reinfection#of sars2 and increased susceptibility to other illnesses/diseases than the rest of the world?#this is the 'new normal' that's being cultivated (the effects of which are already blatantly obvious if you're paying attention)#and importantly: it. doesn't. have. to. be. this. way.

i saw this tweet and found it interesting for two reasons. one is that some people base how good cartoon network would be to toh by how it treated su, and despite the fact that su’s treatment by the network was considered poor at the time, now its thought to be exceptionally good in comparison to modern shows.
two is how exactly su got impacted by a limited budget. a common criticism is how characters like connie, peridot, and lapis are left out of missions. but balancing a lot of characters is not only hard but also costly (extra animation, extra voices—it’s been revealed that the show is limited to a set number of characters per episode otherwise they’re over budget). animation mistakes are not uncommon since retakes cost extra. the entire reason the original show got cut short was due to loss of funding!
#i don’t know if pay rates differ per networks#but a.ivi and s.urrashu have said that they needed to work outside of su in order to make sufficient funds#it only makes me wonder what other ways su suffered from a lower budget#that we as the audience never got to see#in the vein of the too-little characters complaint#another part of that is that low-stakes episodes should’ve been abt the main cast instead of the townies#like last one out of beach city and too short to ride vs restaurant wars and kiki’s pizza delivery service#i definitely see that especially since that isn’t budget related#nor would it seem to be network related (even if cn had an ‘episodic episodes’ quota it could still be abt the gems#(another side note: /would/ cn even have a requirement that the show make episodes that can be watched standalone?#this is a question for the people who were around when su was airing#what episodes often got rerun?#was it the townie eps or the lore eps?#for example i heard that su once did a ‘peridot event’ where they just reran peridot episodes#which had eps that skip around in the show#did they even care about airing the story so that it made sense anyways?#id get it if the low stakes townie episodes were the ones getting rerun))#but i have such a boring view on that which is i think it’s simply because the creators like townie eps#like in interviews r.ebecca s.ugar has said she’s the type to be really invested in background characters#answers in interviews have been crafted in ways to hide what’s really going on though tbf#prime example of this is rebecca and ian saying the wedding being interrupted was meant to follow the common trope#when later in the art book they said that it was bc cn rejected the ep bc it ‘wasn’t interesting enough’#both could simultaneously be true! it’s a psychology thing though where people make up nice-sounding explanations behind what they create#in retrospect because they want it to be thought out in such a nice way they believe in it#the bigger problem is that not matter how many episodes there are of them#it can be hard for ppl to be invested in the townies the same way they are invested in the main cast#i’m sure that a million writers have made surefire advice on how to get an audience to care about characters#but off the top of my head i think it’s because 1. most don’t have strong motivations to get truly invested in#(exception is ronaldo but people find him too annoying to care about him)#okay i had more points and explanations but i hit the tag limit and idk if anyone is actually reading this so bye
