i just got wuwa too and im too lazy to change my language so i just play with the sound off lol.. why are the english voices so unlistenable??? especially yangyang?????

oh i wasn’t complaining about the eng voice acting actually, but about the game defaulting to the german translation jshsh

that being said, i did switch to the jp voice acting while changing the text settings, just bc i play genshin and honkai in japanese too and i want to try that first; though i didn’t notice anything too wrong with eng (i also didn’t pay too much attention though so i‘ll have to switch back and compare if i keep playing it)

also it’s important to not direct any dislike of a game’s voice acting at the actors directly, we never know what kind of directions they got

>trying the dutch duolingo because i heard dutch is easier than german and i want to see if that’s true >skip ahead a section bc i’m bored with de vrouw de man de kinderen and so on >asked for the dutch word for water >start to guess wasser because knowing german has gotten me this far >remember that the netherlands didn’t go through the high german consonant shift >type “water” >correct >i’m a language genius (i am not a language genius i still don’t know the correct german word order at least 50% of the time)

#i'm still gonna be proud of myself for remembering about the consonant shift though #dutch IS easier btw #or at least i currently think it is i haven’t reached the more complicated sentence structures yet #but it took me just a couple hours to skip ahead to the last section of level 1 dutch on duolingo #(this would not have been possible w/o prior german knowledge tbf)#only two grammatical genders and no cases to worry about for articles thank god #deutsch hat 4 fälle holländisch hat nur 1 #gewinner: holländisch #as you figure out which dutch letter combinations tend to correspond to which letters in german there's a lot you can just guess #i've been finding subtitles on dutch videos pretty easy to decipher #this also works for österreichisch when you're watching maschek or the gute nacht österreich guy goes out to interview random people btw #sending them a big thank you for putting subtitles #maslow's hierarchy of needs pyramid where every level is just “people speaking dialect on tv with subtitles”

being into things in an intense way in real life is wild because you'll say something like i watched this movie four times and read articles about it on jstor and then i found this book referenced in two separated essays but i am no expert of feudal japan history i am stupid and people will be like. you watch movies in the original language??

The Heir of Redclyffe is teaching me that what Little Women really needed was for the March sisters to have a clever, witty, sharp-tongued, disabled brother who was BFFs with Laurie.

#charles edmonstone my beloved #he's so much fun #and his friendship with guy is one of the best parts of the book #i'm shocked to see a victorian book where the disabled person is neither a monster nor a saint #the disability affects his life and the household but it's far from the only thing about him #he's a great character in his own right #he even has a plot-relevant illness #but the plot relevance isn't 'oh no he's near death let's have drama'#but 'he's having a flareup and can't write letters so someone loses a vital correspondant at an unfortunate moment'#(charles does later lampshade the lost opportunity for a dramatic deathbed reconciliation scene)#but anyway despite my continued comparisons of this book and little women #they are different books #aside from the laurie thing and the general family atmosphere and the moralizing mother figure there's quite a lot different #for one thing the male characters are much more interesting than most of the female ones #the girls are fine but certainly not the main draw of the story #i do like the religious aspect of this one more though #at first it was giving me anxiety cuz they agonize over teeny little sins #but once we moved from childish concerns to more adult ones the faith aspect became much deeper #still clunky and eye-rolling at times but also surprisingly natural in some places #and i'm still holding my breath for whatever made jo cry over this book #66% through the book; it's gotta be coming relatively soon #books #the heir of redclyffe #little women #charlotte mary yonge #louisa may alcott

I’m developing a written language which is the love child of Druidic Ogham and Japanese Kana in a weird poetic format.

#I stripped the 26 letter alphabet down to the essentials and eliminated individual symbols for consonants which sound similar #Like F conjugates into V and D conjugates into T if you strike the symbol through #F and D have their own symbols but not V and T #So the strike through works as a tenten #The consonants are the only part written down; the rest is already there in the form of a fancy looking grid #Where you place the consonants on the grid determines what vowel sound you have #There are four lines going across and two perpendicular waves through them #with the four element symbols and “source”/big bang #the X axis (sort of) represents 4 chronological sections of writing #The Y axis represents “aeiou” and the element symbols correspond to each different vowel #The sentence must be no greater and no less than either eight or sixteen words depending on how big the grid is #But the different writing sections are hatched through in different directions #Section one on the far left goes left to right #Section two in the middle left goes down to up #Section three in the middle right goes up to down #Section four on the far right goes right to left #The consonant symbols written on these lines can be written upside down and backwards and still mean the same thing #because they are all unique and none are reverse image of any other symbols #Blended consonants are simply drawn touching each other; and different parts of a word are broken up into syllables across multiple lines #These can be put together because there are only two or four words per section (depending on the side of the grid)#so different symbols representing the numbers 1–4 float atop or alongside the different syllables to distinguish them from each other #No this is not a practical writing system #It’s more for serious encryption of your deepest darkest secrets that you REALLY don’t want anyone — even yourself — to know #Or I guess it might qualify as a system for writing sigil poetry. I’ve used linguistic magic in the past so this is very in-character

I was reading a book when at the end, when everything is resolved (or rather on the way to be okay) one of my favourite characters was overpowered by the villain. The villain transformed into him and the only one who realized that is the little mute girl who doesn't know sign language and isn't even in physical form because her power allows to "walk" away from her body when she sleeps.

And I was so shocked I tried to leave a comment below the chapter, as you do. But guess what? It's a physical book. There is no comment section at the end of the chapter!!!

I baffles me how someone rbed a post from me (lit major btw) and said that they prefer fanfic over literature bc the characters lack depth or whatever in the tags and it just makes me incredibly upset to see ppl saying shit like this because there are So Many good book out there!!! literature is so much fun when you find what works for you!!! but anyways why don't you read the metamorphosis by franz kafka and metamorphosize your taste

Another banger #I actually don't know if the last one is written in first person #I'm saying first person specifically bc it's mostly used to make the reader feel for the characters more #diary or letter genre could also be interesting. correspondance is fun #Im just giving a lecture at this point what Im trying to say is.
