Gilda Goldstag is a weird character. She's about the most background character you can be, the wiki claims she has no identified voice actress but I haven't even managed to find a clip of her making any noise at all. Yet she got a doll release unlike many more interesting looking backgrounders.

That isn't to suggest I hate her G1 design, far from it, it justifies her blandness very well and how her face shape accommodates her horns is neat...

...However, with Gen 3's emphasis on giving even backgrounders stronger aesthetics, I thought it might be fun to make her much more clearly a Shy Greek Deer.

My last and final commission this year was Monster High's Heath Burns. Commissioner stated they wanted their Heath to look more masculine, have side burns (heh), and a goatee similar to what I had done for my InvisiBilly some years ago. He's a fire elemental monster so I really wanted him to look toasty.

Surprisingly, I had a lot of trouble getting the pencils to make a mark on the vinyl. The only other time I had that issue was on my very first custom years ago. I blame the cold weather, but eventually I was able to make it work combining very thin acrylics and pastels.

I also put in a tiny bit of fluorescent red to his irises for a bit of fun.

if you draw enough monster ocs, when you go back to drawing a human character, it feels like "sameface syndrome" everytime, by virtue of their face being. human.

On one hand it does seem like Mattel has something against Cleo because all of her gen 1 style collector dolls have been bad, but on the other hand she has a lot of collector dolls, on par with Draculaura if I'm not mistaken, so they can't hate her that much.

I just don't get why they have such a hard time capturing her style. Every collector doll she's gotten, her face has looked completely different, and nothing like her original face up. And I think out of all the characters, her style in gen 3 is still pretty similar to gen 1, and she's had some banger gen 3 dolls as of late. Yet her gen 1 style dolls outfits really do look akin to to gen 2, maybe late stage gen 1 if we're being generous.

While both Gens have their merits, I cannot deny nostalgia does have a chokehold on me and affects my preferences.
