Holy shit I just realized the common theme between all the tgaa2 cases so far… and it has concerning implications for where this is going! Long post below:
Okay so I have a very long essay in my drafts that I will probably never finish, but basically it talks about how the aa games tend to use similarities between cases to empathize an overarching theme. Usually this is through the relationships between the characters or the way the murder played out, but in the case of tgaa, I find it much more interesting to look at the motives of each case’s killer. In tgaa1, we have:
1-1: ??? (Plot stuff)
1-2: accident/desperation
1-3: Being Evil (basically lol)
1-4: accident
1-5: revenge
So, other than the two accidents, nothing too notable overall. But! Tgaa2, up to the point I’ve played, has this:
2-1: vigilante justice
2-2: revenge
2-3: revenge
Almost universally in revenge! This is a really interesting theme for this game to be focusing on, given that its other major throughline is the slow reveal of a complex crime involving the entire older generation of characters. And with everything this game is hinting at with van Zieks and Kazuma…
Van Zieks and the idea of extralegal justice keeps being brought up with his “Reaper” curse! IMO the most interesting discussion about this idea was when Gina said that he was like God (lol) because he knew who was good and bad on the inside. Given that he has a personal connection to the overarching mystery, it seems like there are plenty of opportunities for this to come into play when the truth is finally revealed, and with him as the defendant in 1-4, they have plenty of room to play with this!
Kazuma’s connection is more tenuous, but there’s a lot of stuff about family legacy there, especially with Karuma being very symbolic of, well, karma. I think there was a line about “the sword that strikes down evil” or something like that… Kazuma is, of course, a Good Person, but there’s enough setup there that if it’s revealed that his father wasn’t actually the killer, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a “revenge is Bad Actually” arc where we have to convince him not to kill people. If they do this, it will make me a little bit insane! But it would be a very interesting direction for the story to take
Tl;dr tgaa2 seems to be talking about revenge a lot and I think that can lead to some really interesting character moments as the plot moves forward! Excited to see where this will go or if I’m completely wrong

I realize I’m still in the middle of 2-2 but I started playing the Escapades for whatever reason… they’re super fun and I love getting to see my boys be silly :)

Ooooh she’s back in her Thalassa outfit! Idk how I missed earlier that the diamond was her Gramarye symbol, and Lamiroir had one her outfit

Alright, I have to stop for the night, and in typical Apollo Justice fashion, I have more questions than answers! I will continue some time soon!

Sorry I’ve given up on my liveblog and like, this account in general. I’m still very much into ace attorney and still playing through tgaa2, I just haven’t felt as motivated to post about it. I might come back someday or I might not! I have a couple of meta analyses in my drafts that I’ll post if I can ever figure out how to word them correctly. Just thought I should update you guys on where I’ve been.

Magnifi had it too? Weird, the only missing link here is Apollo… did he buy his bracelet at a Gramarye yard sale or something?

Alright I’m stopping for a little while, not many thoughts so far other than that:
This is the most obvious tutorial case since the first game
I love playing as Susato!
Susato’s friend is super gay and I’m here for it
Idk when I’ll be able to get back to it, but until then!

I’m not quite sure how I feel about learning that Gina’s whole testimony was a lie… she’s kinda the only reason that I believed that dude at all… but I definitely still feel bad for her, I don’t even really blame her for it, but god is that case a mess in hindsight lol

I might have been ambivalent about Sholmes but I LOVE Iris. She’s so funny to me in all the obvious ways, and she was a genuine surprise but a welcome one… even if I’m left wondering who in the world the guy from the first case was, if “John Wilson” is just Iris’s pen name??
I’m sure that mystery will be answered later- until then, I enjoy the world’s most powerful 10-year-old

Thoughts after case 3:
This game really has no filler cases, does it? I really expected this to be normal and unimportant… but nope
The game did a good job making me feel bad about winning the case… though I’m sure it’ll all be resolved by the end
I really can’t get a read on Van Zieks yet but his overdramatic everything is fun
Very intrigued to see where this is gonna go! Just like an Apollo Justice case, more questions than answer… hopefully I’ll be able to figure it out in the next case! Until then!
