Is the book the alienist is based on worth reading in your opinion? love your gifs btw :)

The Alienist is one of my fav books. i’ve read it a year ago. i really love good detective novel, with psychological aspect. it’s very atmospheric (very dark and brutal; if you’re sensetive some parts can be tough to read, bc of amount of gory details), characters have a good dynamic. i LOVE stories about true friendship and this is also why i love it.

also i want to add this peice of “critics”:

“Heroes display an early (and highly improbable) political correctness toward blacks and homosexuals. And his detective team anticipates the feminist movement by enlisting a tough-minded career woman who’s unafraid to pack a pistol and spout a bit of scatological English.”

and if this is not another reason to read this book, idk what is.

tbh it was really unexpected to find such good strong - real - female character (one of main) in a book with 19th century setting (and who also not end up in relationship by the end). written by male author. in 1994.one of my absolute fav things about the book that nor sara/lazlo nor sara/john aren’t endgame.

i’ve seen only half of the show at this moment, and it’s good and i really enjoy it. but i already can tell you that the book is better.

it is the colour he blushes when Percival tells him did good work and he claps the British Auror on the shoulder - gently - he looks barely more than a boy. He’d been worried when this slip of a thing had entered his office, come from across the sea, but it appeared size wasn’t everything. 

It’s the colour of his pocket square and it is that that Percival notices one dreary Wednesday morning. It’s been raining all week and everything is grey and damp - and the flash of colour tugs his attention. For a few brief seconds, he watches as Timothy trots after another Auror, short legs working hard to keep pace, slips and knocks his hip on a desk. Shaking his head, he returns to his meeting. 

It is the colour of his secretary’s lipstick, he thinks, as he swipes a thumb over Timothy’s lips - only to find nothing comes off. It is not the colour he sees when he pulls away from kissing a soft and yielding mouth.

It is the colour of the back of her eyelids when he kisses her. It is the colour of the roses at the florist she passes the next day. It is the colour of the dress a woman who trots ahead of her is wearing. She tries not to let it be the colour of doubt. 

It is the colour that is absent as he sweeps past her later, around ten, without even a glance, into his office - and it is like, as he closes the door - he has drained all the colour of her world into that room with him.

@mistargraves it’s definitely not high art or anything, but it’s quite decently done with intricate character dynamics, really nice camera work and top-notch acting. Ben Mendelsohn and Kyle Chandler are so good, plus the supporting actors do some solid work too. I’d say it’s not for everyone - it’s not flawless and people think its pacing is too slow - but I got hooked (obviously). Also, s1 and s2 are quite different in terms of narrative style. Stick with it for a few eps and see if it’s your thing!

warning: the tension/drama is almost constant through all 23 episodes and I can barely think of a single character that isn’t a horrible human being in one way or another. all part of the Bloodline charm :)

Credence allowed himself to be led by Mr Graves, a very rare yet blissful smile crossing his lips as he walked along with him. The night had been incredible and he still couldn't believe that he had the privilege to join the man he admired on a night out. There was everything that was sinful according to his Ma - jazz music, alcohol, laughter, smoking, women in short skirts - and it was the best night of his life, even if he was going to feel incredibly hungover in the morning.

"Mr Graves," Credence uttered once they stepped in his home, then turning in against the older wizard and nuzzling his nose against his neck. "Thank you for the best night of my life. I've never had fun like that before." He tilted his head up to look him in the eyes, only briefly glancing to his lips before the temptation took over. He then promptly leant in, closing the distance between them and pressing their lips together in a tender kiss.

Ehhhhhh. I’ve met very little of my dad’s family tbh and haven’t spoken to my half-sister since his funeral so. My mum is... Difficult at times. I have very little to do with my cousins and my Grandma is a good 5 hours away? My aunt and uncle live in France and tbh my in-laws are largely Bad People so. Not like, criminals, but just - not nice.

Bunnies!!

🔶- Favorite color(s)?

Black, and then red. 

🎥- Favorite movie?

I am actually really bad at choosing this tbh. New Ghostbusters was awesome but I wouldn’t say it was my favourite. I really like TLJ and TFA?

📺- Favorite TV show?

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, at the moment. 

🎞- Favorite cartoon/anime?

I was never massively into Anime. I really like Big Mouth, on Netflix.

Nothing that is good for me. xD

Ben & Jerrys ben and jerry's cookie s’wich up or like... core karamel sutra

Anything bubblegum / strawberry flavoured. Or like. Cadbury’s do these things call egg and spoon - one with chocolate mousse and one with, vanilla, I think? Kraft has, of course, ruined the vanilla ones by jamming oreo bits in there... But the chocolate ones stand up.

🍸- Do you drink?

I do - infrequently. And I do drink to get drunk. Some alcohol, you know, tastes nice - but I don’t quite get people who like the taste of say... Wine. And just want a glass with dinner or smthn. Also wine tastes like butts.

Tumblr, tbh. I used to have other hobbies but... I’d just rather be writing.

Uhhhhhhhh. I have a shitty memory at the best of times. Oh! So I remember I was out playing with a bunch of kids and it was like - imaginary play? And I remember telling one of the other kids ‘you left me at the altar’ with literally, no clue, what it even meant. I’d just heard it on telly...

🛍- What was the last purchase you made for?

Bought food yesterday - but before that it was Birthday presents for my husband and a phone cover for my new phone.

💸- If you had a billion dollars and could only spend it, what would you buy first?

A house - decorate it and probabyl redo the kitchen. Furnish it - driving lessons and a car for my husband, and a car for myself. I have thought a lot about this lmao.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I am not skilled. So no.

❤️- How would you describe yourself?

Eh - it depends on my muse when you catch me w/ this question. I’m kinda the personification of the ‘think i’m the worst so I act like I’m the best’ tbh.

You know I’m not sure - catch my husband on a good day and he’d probably call me smart, funny and good with money and orginisation. Catch him on a bad day and he’d tell you I’m a stupid, selfish, lazy bitch. So. You know.

💠- what is the Most expensive thing you own?

Probably my phone - on contract. Or like TV? PS4? Laptop? Stuff like that tbh. I buy a lot on credit so I’m like - how much was my bed? How much was my sofa???

Wedding DVD - I was gonna say my laptop or like my phone and yes. I’d feel temporarily lost without them but - like, even my wedding Album I have all the pictures on the internet. But my wedding DVD (and true there are two or three other copies) has my dad on it and... That’s just a very deep thing for me

🐻- Do you have any stuffed animals?

Too many. 

🐝- Favorite season?

Ehhh - Britain doesn’t really have ‘seasons’ like. It’s ‘spring’ and we’ve got snow. And it just rains near constantly. I think if we had better defined seasons, autumn? It’s certainly my favourite time of year.

🐋- share a Weird/funny story?

Uh. Uh. Uh. My husband and I frequently get mistaken for brother and sister instead of husband and ife. It’s actually... Quite creepy.

In front of the Director of Magic Security and Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement stood the full complement of MACUSA’s Aurors - all but three of them had had the advantage of meeting the man before - the others, not necessarily friends, but drawn to each other out of a sense of familiarity had not. The stood slightly to the left of the group, his right, and listened carefully. They had transferred from Britain and had been under the strictest instructions from Justus Pilliwickle not to show him up… 

Tim could not speak for the others - as a smattering of applause broke out for Percival’s address - but she fully intended to perform to the best of her abilities. His speech was certainly… A change. Hector Fawley - the Minister for Magic hardly gave any credence to the threat of Grindlewald - shipping out as many of his Aurors to other countries as he could. This task was made easy by the demand of other countries - but resisted by Justus who was more attuned to the threat. Justus has spoken frequently about the dangers of war but his emphasis had often been on the loss of life… Not integrity. 

It was certainly something… Something to consider. Obviously, there had been training done, preparation, very dull meetings that somehow stripped all meaning away from it… But to take a life - that had not yet happened. And the emphasis on it was a direct reminder of the fact.

Percival was raised with a certain prestige and affluence - and while he was able to strip himself of this as easily as a snake sheds its skin during the war - there is no denying that his life has a cultivated within him a taste in the finer things on offer. His job is not easy - often dangerous, with long hours and ambassadorial gymanstics - and often draining, both emotionally and physically so he feels that, perhaps, he deserves a little comfort in his downtime.

The room is dark - after their time in the lighthouse both had become sensitive to light and Percival - with his extended stay - struggled with blinding pain. She is sat, curled up in the chair like a cat and he is laid in bed. She can tell he’s awake, however, because what little light there is glints off his eyeballs as he stared at the ceiling. The President came earlier - she was ushered out - and he has been silent since.

She knows that Grindelwald has escaped - she was told at least that much. She was not privy to the aspersions cast upon Percival - the allusions to the idea that he might have had something to do with it. But he has not spoken since she returned and his discontent radiates from him in waves.

“We don’t have to stay.” She whispers into the dark - as if saying it quietly is comparable to not saying it at all. “When you’re able- when you’re ready, we could just… Leave..?” The silence got heavier and her stomach turned as it stretched. She dropped her gaze from him - picking silently at her fingernails. She should not have suggested it. She pressed her lips tightly together to keep herself from saying anything more - not for the first time the uncertainty of his reaction to her causing her to grow almost faint with apprehension. 

He could, of course, pretend to be asleep - but in some ways, that would almost be worse than any answer he gave…
