Misaki realizing that they have almost everything she can’t provide Miri. from all types of clothing, to a room filled with everything the child wants, Misaki realized that this place has everything she couldn’t afford. In her eyes, this is paradise for a child like Miri. 

But if there’s anything Kazuki and Rei can’t do, it’s to provide Miri a normal life. One devoid of lies and danger. If they choose to keep this up, it will hurt them all in the long run.

I think it's worth noting here that although Kazuki got triggered by what happened to the umbrella and what could've happened to Miri, he doesn't lash out at her and yell at her or say mean stuff to her, or give her The Glareᵀᴹ and a cold shoulder.

It would be so easy to do that but he didn't. He instead comforts her, saying "these things happen, I'll get you an other umbrella".

I dunno but it says alot about him as a person.

Miri wants to talk.

You ever think about how Miri is unintentionally Kazurei's number one matchmaker. How, if it weren't for her, their hearts would still be closed off. Kazuki would still be running away from love, burying his heart in gambling and the like. Still wallowing in guilt and believing that he's undeserving of finding happiness. Rei wouldn't even consider himself capable of it, thinking that he is powerless beyond the cold-blooded murderer people (him) always believed him to be. They would be static, constantly hesitant and afraid to get past each other's walls beyond what they assumed is ideal, close but not enough to be able to completely understand each other. I mean, they do, but instead of having the guts to communicate and verbalize their inner feelings, they constantly tiptoe around each other's boundaries, hoping that the other will get the message. Miri, on the other hand, broke them free of their constraints and led them to the realization of what they genuinely want.

These two hitmen were emotionally constipated and the presence of Miri in their life allowed them to be capable, or rather, ready to love (again, in Kazuki's case). In the early days, I don't think that either of them were prepared to love at all. Even more, they'd deprive themselves of it -- it was an obligation as hitmen. To love was a hindrance in itself, and would inevitably lead to loss. From the bottom of my heart, fuck you Shigeki

I'm a firm believer that they only started falling in love in the events of episode 6-8 or even episode 11. In Rei's case, I personally headcanon him to have very light, warm feelings since the days Kazuki started taking care of him, but never having the name for it

I'm thinking about the idea that maybe one night Miri has a nightmare. It's nothing too horrific, just the normal kind that baby brains like to conjure up sometimes, and she immediately runs to Rei. He doesn't really know how to help. Growing up he knew better than to bother his father with these types of things, so he has Zero idea what he's doing but she's miserable and currently laying on top of him clinging to his shirt so he can't go and get Kazuki, so he just kinda pets her back and just holds her until eventually she falls back asleep and he's left trying Very hard to ignore the warm feeling in his chest that comes with his daughter seeking him out for comfort.

Episode 9

Rei is doing the positive version of "Living through your children." Which I believe is normally called "Being supportive of their interests?"

Essentially, making up for things or experiences you didn't or couldn't have as a child, and making sure your kids are treated better.

Rei was clearly raised to be as quiet as possible and to take up the least amount of space as possible. It's clear that he himself doesn't mind noisy or bright people, even to his own surprise as demonstrated with both Kazuki and Miri.

The thing is Miri is loud. She's 4, that's actually very normal. But, not only does he passively accept their loudness, he tries to match it here. It's such a big step for him, it can't be easy for him, but he wants to help so so badly. It can't have been easy for him to raise his voice like that, but he did it.

He loves Miri so much it's amazing. Even his advice on running and the science behind it shows that he supports her and is trying to help even though it make look like he's doesn't care.
