I love Ranking of Kings and I thoroughly enjoyed season one but I would be lying if I said the whole Daida/Miranjo thing wasn't weird as hell.

a long ourank oc presentation because braem is just a writer at heart and soul.
this is honi.
Tumblr media
honi is from my fanfic here. would be glad if you read it. would be so happy if you like it. haven't updated it in a while so below are some spoilers for us all(?)
Tumblr media
i know. i can't draw the same face. though #Shook is my favourite.
she has longer hair in earlier designs. but then i gave her short hair and thought, oh she looks cooler. like she could be a really cool mom. that's all you need honestly. like why make your ship lovers when you can get kingdom management done with the spiCE that is legal union!
'scuse me. kept the long hair for her younger-tween looks, anyway - wasn't mentioned why in the fic but let's just say that making it to the underworld was life changing. one way or another. she got a scar on her left cheekbone after her twenties (so yeas, i forgot the middle one im sorry).
here's our man because why not. we crave loose hair desha in this house.
Tumblr media
im so bad at drawing crowns.
i was keen on the idea of someone to balance desha's personality out, instead of the complete opposites-attract. coz this here is a brash and unapologetic man who mercilessly cackles and taunts bojji and domas at the first meeting. half the fun will be when someone doesn't really flinch at that. tempers him down a bit or countering and riling him up to make firecrackers is what I want to see.
Tumblr media
pink ram-lion babies coz why not
honi was nearly engaged before - somewhat more experienced in the field? but things happened and romantic pursuits were shelved before they met. honi acknowledged that he was a man early on in their meeting, but after making up and a few more formal encounters assured her that he was worth being friends with. worth the days-long flight just for a few weeks of teasing, good mead and mushroom pies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after the winter breakfast but she's still confused.
figuring out she has feelings was a breakdown on a catastrophic level.
Tumblr media
but eh, iss all good.
Tumblr media
cuties.
Tumblr media
not officially engaged but at least the lightning discharge was minimum.
that's all, i guess. some wish-wash, fluffy, alternate-or-future universe musings.
(but then in the manga the ominous naration was like, desha never returned and the underworld fell into ruin *cue queen elinor toppling chess pieces* (overthinking desha's pre-canon shonen arc and how his power is what made him rank 2nd as well as keep order in the multirace, monstrous underworld). in case reclaiming the throne won't work the option is mountain-nymph!honi or passing-farmer-girl!honi. pick.)
(but also the idea that if the canon queen is the persephone counterpart and was on the overworld for her six months deal when the whole season 1 happened is also great. which makes it hilarious if they met during part 2 coz she'd be like 'what tf happened to you?' and heartbreaking if he doesn't remember her. would be fantastic if she's any sort of queen like hiling and stubbornly gets shit done - might have a crisis that she cant find despa or ouken around, or launch some curses to the judge. but I don't know abt canon-queen. only the writer knows what might happen. as long as it isn't some poor excuse of a girl-failure of a villainess miranjo is, I'll be satisfied.)
sometimes i worry if my art will be considered ai work due to my poor anatomy but i swear it's really just a poor concept of anatomy😭 i have so MUCH to improve on digital painting. lighting, shadowing, composition, their size difference—they say the captain is 265 and desha's around the same height in the artbook. honi's like 180 and she's still so tiny! next to him despite being taller than average.
bonus, somewhat suggestive comic below.
Tumblr media
double bonus: i think they both agree that domas is a joke and keeping 2000 km distance with miranjo is a must

Incorrect Ranking of Kings quotes (spoilers)
Miranjo: I'm the person responsible for nerfing your brother before his was born thus making you HIS unwilling keeper, made him mom-less via murder, almost made *you* mom-less using the same method, used your body as a vessel for your dead father whom you DRANK, amongst other fully chaotic evil schemes.
Daida: now *THIS* woman I gotta marry

What Miranjo went through is horrible but, in the end, I just can’t bring myself to feel bad for her after all the things she has done to everyone. She hurt so many people when it wasn’t even necessary! I mean, she killed Bojji’s mom in front of him just because female giants can’t bare more than one child and Miranjo wanted Bosse to become stronger and for that he needed to have another child! To me, every terrible thing that she does just ends up feeling gratuitous. Even if she repents, I don’t think I would be able to get over all the things she did. I mean, it only makes sense, after all I will never forgive Domas and what she did was way worse.

God... I started the series hating the little weasel, but I now kinda feel bad for daida after everything. He's a kid at the end of the day, and is in fact younger than his brother (though he tries to act otherwise). I find it interesting that we haven't seen anything about the relationship between him and bosse. But judging by how bosse was planning to kill his mother or was at least was considering it without that much worry, I doubt that he was close to him. There's obviously a bias towards boji that king bosse has. It's shown very clearly this episode. Despite what everyone thought otherwise, it was daida that the king saw as a lesser son, not boji. It made me sad. He's still a little shithead though. I can't wait when future episodes focus on his background. I want to know what's his deal with boji. Why was he visibly upset when domas "killed" him? How did he find the mirror? Was it given to him? Why did his master favour boji? What his relationship with his mom? Questions for later I guess.
I'm super intrigued about Daida tbh. I didn't like him at first either but now he's my baby boy. I love Hiling so I have to accept him as my son as well. I'm really glad he's still around on some capacity, I really wanna learn more about him.
I'm really intrigued for his relationship with both of his parents... I think there’s an interesting layer here with Bosse feeling guilt over sacrificing Bojji for his own sake, and I think him favoring Bojji had to do with that guilt more than anything else, but at the same time he doesn’t show the same feeling of guilt for sacrificing Daida now.
His relationships with his sons is interesting in that both seem to come from a place of distance and insincerity, whereas with Hiling, as much as she can fuck up, genuinely loves them above everything.
I think she’s the only one who can both save Daida and her family right now for that very reason, and that’s exactly why Miranjo wants to get rid of her (also because has magic powers, which makes her a threat. that too). I’m really interested what role Hiling takes in the story now because of that.

!!!My opinion on episode 22 from Ousama Ranking!!! (part 2)
This is a continuation of my thoughts ,´cause the first post was really emotional and i did not fully focus in all characters in the story, just my first thoughts.
Part 1 is here in ´cause you want to see the my first unorganized thoughts and focused in Miranjo.
Also this isn´t a justification for the scene itself (´cause i don´t approve pedophilia in anyway shape or form) but as way to understand why this scene exists in the first place (in the story´s perspective)
WARNING: suicide , pedophilia , necrophilia and genocide
Main focus is Daida
spoilers for episode 22 and all episodes before that
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Something that I found interesting about that scene of the proposal is it was from Daida.
Tumblr media
After looking back Daida´s scene and seeing it not has a decision of the creator but as a decision of Daida and remembering his age and circumstances.
It makes sense.
´Cause even tho he is a king, he is still a child with a limited perception of intimacy and having the power as king to do what he wants.
Like we saw how they interacted with each other, not has adult and child but as a two kids scared and alone due to their circumstances
Tumblr media
(Daida being manipulated by Miranjo)
Tumblr media
(and Miranjo being tortured by the greedy villagers that her own mom decided to protect).
Tumblr media
He helped her even when she was trapped by her mind from the guilt that she feels from "killing" them
(even tho, this was Bosse decision and action.)
Tumblr media
And we saw this story being told by Bosse and Miranjo through Daida´s eyes giving us the same information as him.
He knows what she and his dad passed through. And knows how HORRIBLE humans can be to people who they consider useful when dehumanized, ´cause miranjo and her mom was always seen as such and he also knows how Miranjo can be if she is putted in a healthy environment and her loyalty.
He saw her inner demons and her two attempts of suicide
the first one was when she tried to kill herself do to missing her mom and losing believe in humanity (but this maybe a little or a lot out of context, also this in my personal take of that attempt)
Tumblr media
but she was saved by Bosse.
Tumblr media
And the second one being made after she decided to use others even her magical childhood friend that helped her that she promised to NEVER use him;
Tumblr media
to other people who she considers good people even Daida, a child that she planned to use as a vessel for Bosse and HE KNOWS THAT ´CAUSE HE SAW AND WAS TOLD BY BOSSE´S STORY just to turn Bosse´s dream into reality.( I know bojji kills her but only after she asks it so it is suicide not homicide)
Tumblr media
Yet he still decides to save her ´cause he saw how she can be in a healthy place and environment without being used or abused and also understood that what she did it wasn´t initially from malice but later turned into malice because she wanted to be with the only person who protected her, cared for her and believed in her when she didn´t believed in herself.
And that´s why this proposal was made not exactly for love but from a pure desire to take care of her and protect her and wanting to give her the healthy environment that she deserves, not exactly forgiving her actions but trying to help her to not repeat those actions.
Also she being given the title of a royal and spouse of a king gives her the protection and time that she needs to grow and slowly but surely give her the acceptance of all people of every class.
Tumblr media
but this is just a analises that I made about this scene and the story. If you think that it is wrong , that I did forget something or have another perspective about this scene please tell me in the comments I will happily read it or comment it.

Recently I finished watching an anime called Ranking of Kings and it surprised me. I absolutely adore this anime! I found the story and the characters to be fascinating, the art style and animation were superb. The fights scenes, when they really got going, were really good. And that 2nd opening was an absolute banger that still gives me chills when I listen to it. Ranking of Kings is one anime worthy of being remembered! Because I loved the anime so much some of its flaws stood out more to me, so I’ll talk about them after the read more. There’ll be spoilers.
Number one thing that bothered me: everyone cries in this anime all the time. In every single episode, of this 23 episodes long anime, someone cries their damn eyes out. Sure it was a bit emotional at the start, but the crying scenes just lost their impact completely to me. I can’t be the only one who thinks this, right?
Then the healing. There was barely any sense of urgency or consequence in this anime. Every time someone got fatally injured long nose MILF manifests in the room and heals them. So I just stopped caring when the characters got injured because each time, without fail, someone heals them. It is shock for the sake of shock without any lasting consequence. A bit like in Dragonball whenever someone dies they’re just wished back.
The last episode especially got weird story wise. Miranjo is forgiven far too easily because she has a “tragic backstory”. Like Bojji, my man, she killed your mom and resurrected your father in your brothers body against his wishes. But no she said she was sorry and cried a little, so it’s cool. Mom in heaven is okay with being murdered. Also maybe I completely missed the point, but why did Kage run off at the end? Sure he felt inadequate now that Bojji was king, but it didn’t still make sense to me. Then Bojji gives up his throne because lol friendship I guess. Oh yeah, and that random Kingbo dude comes out of nowhere in the final episode cuts off Oukens head and does some weird shit so it doesn’t reattach.
I was also kinda expecting that the demon had a bit of a deeper backstory and that he was defeated. Eh, dunno. It might sound like I have a real problem with this anime, but trust me. I really enjoyed this one. You gotta know to recognize the flaws of something you like!

I like the forgiveness theme and the decision not to make anyone The Bad Guy but having Bojji’s mom give Miranjo a thumbs up from heaven is a bit much. Tbh this does feel like anime Steven Universe but I’d give it more props in some areas
