Hard Light | Chapter 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: when a new english professor begins teaching your class for the duration of your semester, you can’t help but develop an innocent crush on him. he’s as off-limits as he can be, but that doesn’t deter you in the slightest. after a drunk night, you accidentally email him something that wasn’t intended to ever be seen by anyone. but that doesn’t matter. it triggers a misunderstanding that manifests into an affair with your professor who is twenty years your senior. nothing good could come of this, right?
pairings: professor!joel x college student!reader
word count: 2.2K
series or one-shot
warnings: 18+ explicit, minors DNI, no mention of Y/N, alternate universe, professor/student relationship, eventual smut, self-esteem issues, workaholic, joel x female!reader, infatuation bordering on obsession (stay delulu friends), some sexual thoughts, masturbation (f), joel being a huge tease lol, (will add more tags as i write)
AN: i am so excited by the response that my joel one-shot got a few days ago and i’ve been itching to get something else out to you all. big, giant forehead kisses for those who want one, i love you all. so, anyway, a mini-series about professor joel is coming at you fast. i’ve written the first few chapters, so expect those in the near future. i’m thinking once a week? this fic is going to be something else and i’m so excited to share it with ya’ll. enjoy, and let me know what you think. find my ao3 here for more content and other fandoms.
You were running late for your shift at the coffee shop on campus, rummaging around your dresser, trying to find the low-cut black top you always wore when you had a shift. You weren’t usually one to feed into the peer pressure of those around you, but push came to shove when you found it nearly impossible to keep yourself afloat as a twenty-something student without the added extra tips from your part-time job.
So what if you had to show a little bit of cleavage? Right? There was no harm. Student loans were a bitch and on top of rent and food costs, you had to get a job at the coffee shop and balance a full course load just to make ends meet.
A thought popped into your head and you rushed to your laptop, throwing it open as you checked the time; 5:45 AM. If you busted out your lightning-fast typing skills, you would have enough time to catch the next bus and make it to campus with five minutes to spare. If only your crappy second-hand computer would work.
The thing honestly sounded like a chopper engine, getting ready for lift-off. You were surprised you’d gotten this far with it. Not that you weren’t appreciative, your older brother had passed it down and it had relieved a huge weight—  and expense off of your shoulders.
You tabbed into your school portal, typing in your credentials and selecting your English course. You sighed heavily, as you skimmed over the assignment for this week, something to do with a sonnet that you couldn’t care less about. You loved school but ever since becoming an English major, the spark that you once had for literature sort of just evaporated.
You couldn’t tell if it was because of how busy you were with everything else that you just couldn’t find the time to enjoy it, or the thought that really scared you, you had fallen out of love with it.
It had been two years of go, go, go and you were, for lack of a better word, burnt out. You’d tried dropping courses last semester, thinking that you just needed a little bit of ease when it came to your course load, but when that didn’t solve the problem and only made things worse for you, you spent the last two semesters trying to catch up and get yourself to a place where you could finally breathe.
But it wasn’t easy. You were only now caught up to where you had been, the illusion that you were someone who could afford to take time off and slow down was a distant memory.
In bold letters, the words Paid Internship jumped off of the screen. You smiled as you leaned in closer to the screen, making sure you read through everything correctly. This was the break above the surface that you needed, the reprieve that you had been chasing. A paid internship was exactly how you’d be able to make more money and maybe have a little breathing room before you worked yourself into an early grave.
You clicked the mail icon at the top and clicked into a new email, deciding that the worst-case scenario was that you wouldn’t get the internship. All you were doing was inquiring about the application process. Best-case scenario; you’d get it and make some extra pocket money.
You saw the time, cursing under your breath as you slammed the laptop closed, grabbed your phone out of the charger and ran out of the door. You couldn’t be late, not again. You texted your co-worker Jeremy to open the shop without you and explained to him that you were running a few minutes late, as you barely made it to the bus. You climbed on board, scanned your student pass and found a seat near the back. Your chest was burning from the rush of trying to make it on time, but you could breathe easy now.
You checked your messages mindlessly, scrolling through a bunch of unread ones that you didn’t have the heart to answer.
Before you knew it, the familiar monuments and buildings of UT Austin came into view, and the subtle change of scenery from downtown to a more densely packed area made your heart skip a beat. It was the same each time you were back on campus. Which, these days, was often. Sliding out of the seat, you made your way to the front, thanking the driver as the bus came to a complete stop.
The coffee shop was only a short walk from the bus stop but even still you quickened your pace. You didn't want to leave Jeremy alone for long, you already felt bad enough about letting him open by himself. You stifled a yawn as you pushed open the door to the small cafe, leaning your body into the door, slightly cringing at the shrill sound of the bell.
"There you are", a male voice called, making your head snap up. You wiggled your nose, the familiar timbre of your ex-boyfriend's voice ringing in your ears. "It's about time you got your ass down here".
You snickered, shrugging your heavy bag off of your shoulder, and dropping it behind the counter, turning around and greeting him with an unamused smirk.
Jeremy and you had gone out for a few months last year, it was your first and, as of right now, the only short-term relationship that you'd had in college.
Dating your co-worker, even in a relatively small place like the coffee shop on campus, almost always spelled trouble, but Jeremy was not the type to hold something like a failed relationship over your head. He understood that school was a priority for you and making a living for yourself came first, even above something like a relationship. It might not be the healthiest way to live, but it was how it always was.
Jeremy and you had developed a fast friendship, one that went beyond the romantic relationship that you'd had last year. You parted amicably and now, you had someone you could confide in, someone you could trust.
"Why don't you say that to my face?", you teased, raising a brow at him over the milk frother you were setting up.
Jeremy threw his rag down and stalked over to you. "You're snippy this morning", he chided.
You banged into his shoulder playfully, "Doesn't help that I have to see your ugly mug first thing in the morning".
You snorted out a laugh and Jeremy looked at you, feigning defensiveness, "Ouch", he paused, returning back to his post near the coffee machine, "Remind me how we ever went out?".
You scrunched your nose and threw your rag at Jeremy, hitting him square in the face with it, "That was rude".
He shrugged his shoulder, "You started it".
You both devolved into a fit of giggles and fell into a comfortable silence, setting up and getting the coffee shop ready for the day. You had a half-day shift to look forward to and then you had class until the late afternoon. The days were long and the nights were longer.
You usually found yourself nose-deep in your textbooks, more often than not, or some classic novel that was required for class, not moving from the couch until your eyes were red and you were seeing double.
Only then did you retire to sleep, crashing hard until you had to wake up and do it all again the next day.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
The coffee shop had been bustling with people since six in the morning, and at one in the afternoon, it hadn't let up, only now you had to go to class. Waving Jeremy goodbye, you sidestepped Tara, the fourth-year who was covering the rest of the afternoon and closing shift.
You'd crossed the far side of campus, passing by the science building and one of the massive libraries that had acted like a second home to you back when you’d been studying for exams when you were a freshman. You could thank your obnoxious roommates for that one.
Entering the lecture hall, bodies pressed into you as you weaved through the growing crowd, trying to find a spot in the middle where you could see and hear your English professor. But also blend in with the masses. As if the universe had other plans in mind, and everyone suddenly showed up to the Tuesday lecture all at the same time, you found yourself picking a seat near the front, an exasperated groan leaving you.
You hated sitting at the front, not because you didn't want to get called on to answer something or because you didn't know the answers, but because you did. You wanted to get through your four years as quickly and unscathed as possible and if people knew, mainly professors, that you knew more about the subject matter than you needed to, you'd surely get called on more often, making you stick out in ways you didn't want.
It was a terrible curse, going through life with the self-esteem that you did. But it was how you were raised. Blend in. Don't be too loud. Be quiet and only observe. Nerves rapped at your insides when you thought about getting called on when class started. Your heart rate ticked up and you found that your hands were beginning to get clammy, your throat constricting with each breath.
You rubbed your hands up and down your thighs, grounding yourself with the sensation of the material.
With a jump, you sat up straighter in your seat, being jostled from your thoughts by a loud slam. You snapped your head toward the entrance, eying the person who had startled everyone. It was a man carrying a briefcase.
Your lips tilted up at the edges, amusement tickling you when you thought of anyone using a briefcase nowadays. But here this man was, head down as he made his way to the front of the room, toward the desk.
You couldn't help keeping your eyes trained on him. On how his slacks tightened around his butt, moulding to the shape and curve of it. You bit your bottom lip out of reflex, your eyes dragging down the length of the mystery man who had crashed your lecture. Maybe he was a TA? Your brows furrowed when you thought about how your professor was nowhere in sight.
The man with the briefcase placed his case on the desk, turning to face the audience of students who blinked back at him, who now settled down enough to hear him speak. Air caught in your throat when his eyes flicked momentarily to you, and lingered on you for half a second longer than you'd expected. He had massive, warm brown eyes, and soft wrinkles that danced at the edges of his eyes when he smiled, making him seem more boyish than he appeared.
He looked older than a TA would but then again, who were you to judge someone's position in life? You thought that his age did nothing to undermine just how attractive he was, if anything it added to it.
The man, who may or may not have been moonlighting as your English TA cleared his throat, nodding his head, "My name is Joel, well, Professor Miller to most, but 've always been a little bit more informal than my peers".
He began to circle the wooden desk nervously, his large hand finding the edge of it and stroking it far more sensually than necessary. You flexed your fingers, gripping the arm of your seat to stabilize yourself. "So, you can call me Joel from here on out... since we'll be seeing more of each other from now on".
Murmurs began to break out around the lecture hall, and confused and hushed whispers followed.
Professor Miller— Joel, mumbled something incoherent, and you were unable to hear it from where you sat. He cleared his throat again, "Professor McCarthy has taken a leave of absence, so I'll be filling in for him for the remainder of the semester".
You crossed your legs, feeling heat rise and a furious blush break out across your face, and shuffled in your seat, a loud creak emitted from it and you stilled, praying that the loud sound had only been heard by you and no one else. But when you lifted your gaze, Joel's eyes were already locked on you, blown and brimming with cautious inquiry. A touch of a smirk graced his lips.
"And I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you, personally". His eyes were still on you, not ready to release you from their hold.
His tongue darted out to wet his lips and you couldn't help but stare. You had every reason to look away from him, he was your professor and given the clear age difference, he was someone who was off limits. But when he didn't look away from you either, trapping you with his gaze, your face heated up, suddenly aware that he was purposely staring at you.
You swallowed thickly, heart hammering as Joel's eyes finally drifted away from you and back to the faces of your classmates. He continued on with addressing the class, and you noticed that he avoided your eyes for the rest of the lecture.
Only one thought rang through your mind as you tried and failed to focus back on the lecture. This was going to be one long semester.

daydream — [ huang renjun — 엔시티. ]
where huang renjun knows exactly what he wants.. he just can't say it | now playing ✯
Tumblr media
walking out on his unwanted date is surely rich, but renjun has much more important things to worry about.
leaves crunch under his shoes as he nears the familiar bus stop, lips pursued and hands remarked by the sandal of his bag. if they're bruised red, he'll worry about that later.
he stops by the mini entrance, the sky shrouded in darkness, seems the stars have receded tonight. he leans against the cold metal, smile neutral. "um.. hey".
you glance up instantly, the freezing wind brushing past you two making your hair lift in a manner reminiscent of a slow motion movie shot. it's cute. "you just get off work?"
your nod is slow. "yeah".
he scratches at the side of his arm, anxiety creeping up behind him like a surprise. "can i join you?"
your smile is a beautiful response, and you scoot over to make space for him, your shoulders lightly brushing against each other as he sits. the smoke from your cigarette continues wafting into the air, but you don't take another hit. "no good night kiss?" you begin, tease on the tip of your tongue.
renjun has half a mind to chuckle at that one, his eyes flitting in another direction. "no" he shakes his head, eye roll barely visible. "too busy judging his strange meal choices.."
you snort at the reply, a snort that gets a laugh out of renjun, you find that much funnier than you probably should've. "okay, if you want good tempura, i know this great soba place you should try".
renjun again laughs, his smile full of pure euphoria. shit, he doesn't remember the last time he smiled so hard. "i'll keep that in mind".
a small silence settles between you two, renjun entertaining himself by reading the labels on the nearby pole. another smile again blossoms onto his features, the street lamp cascading over you makes you appear almost angelic in a sense. "i don't remember the last time i've laughed so hard.." he places a hand on his knee.
you glance his way, and he continues: "it's been a while since i've been able to.. just be myself".
your smile is inviting and renjun simply snickers at his circumstances. "and how long have i been dating these assholes? trying to give love a shot".
the touch of your shoulder is a comforting sense, and you simply suck your teeth. "i get what you mean, he wasn't your thing anyway".
renjun's shoulders raise in amusement. "don't even know what my thing is anymore".
you nudge him lightly, an action that passes as an affectionate gesture. "hey i never got.. uh— your name, your real name" you chuckle in between terms. "you know i'm always calling people mr that or mrs this".
renjun finds his giggles endless tonight. "renjun".
your eyebrow raises, cigarette still tucked between your fingertips. "renjun?.. um, benevolent?"
he clears his throat. "it also means kind or handsome".
you hum, taking another hit of your cigarette as you blow the smoke out between your lips. "that checks out.."
his eyes can't exactly widen subtly, and you catch sight of it, because your both quick to burst into resounding laughter. "it's— it's a beautiful name is what i mean!" you hide your mouth behind your hand, but renjun's smile doesn't falter.
his snickers continue for a few seconds, and while it seems impossible, he manages to avoid eye contact. "thank you.. um, uh— i'm sorry, what's your name?"
you chuckle before even beginning your reply. "y/n".
renjun knows, he already knows, he's read your name tag more times than he can count. he's heard your hoard of coworkers shout it more times than he can count, each time his eyes trail you leaving your shift at the restaurant, he can't help but feel the taste of your name on the tip of his tongue.
he stares down at the ground for a few seconds, pressing his feet together. "have you always noticed me?"
maybe he's getting cocky, but maybe he also just wants it. renjun can't exactly put it into words, but he so badly wants to know. your nod is so reassuring he smiles before you even utter a reply. "yeah, yeah i always do".
renjun straightens up in his seat. "i'm sure you meet tons of people per day i shouldn't exactly stand out—"
"well you aren't exactly hard to miss".
in a sea of faces, you choose to remember his.
"do you take the bus here?" is his next choice of inquiry, hands gripping at his sides.
"yep, every single day".
renjun bites at his inner cheek. "you don't have to wait her—"
"i want to" he's quick to respond, keeping his hands at his sides.
you place your own into your lap, just barely biting back your smile as silence drifts again. "i'm starving" you opt to state, fingers gripping at the sides of your jacket.
now it's renjun's turn to nudge you. "maybe you can show me that soba place".
it's an offer that's much too enticing for you to turn down, and your smile simply grows wider. "sure".
and yeah, maybe two dates in the same night isn't exactly the way to go, but there's a difference, huang renjun is 100% sure he wants you.

Dr. & Mr. Vettel
Tumblr media
Sebastian Vettel x Fem!Reader
Warnings: mentions of hospitals, alcohol and the consumption of, Seb gives reader a mini heart attack by accident (not really), fluffy soft husband Seb, top level cheesiness.
Word Count: 2.3k
Author’s Note: I was dancing around my kitchen and here we are. -- I know the time logicals don’t really work but go with it.
---
The shift ended an hour ago, you were laying on the couch in the lounge as you clicked through the tv. It was just past 2 in the morning and you were so sleepy but you refused to go home to the empty house again.
“Dr. V?” One of the nurses, Sammy, called for you when he noticed you on the couch. “Why are you still here? Your shift was done..” he glances at his watch, “like an hour ago.”
“I know,” you yawn, sitting up to sip on the now cold coffee. Sammy sits next to you on the couch. “Is he away this weekend?” He asks.
Nodding, you glance at your phone that was on your lap; a photo of you and Sebastian in Germany last summer. He's holding you and your legs are wrapped around his waist as you both laughed at something his brother said to you before he took the picture.
“From Singapore straight to Japan.”
“Oh man,” Sammy sinks back into the couch. “That sucks big time, Dr. V.”
“Tell me about it,” you sigh, running a hand down your face.
“Do you want me to stay with you?” Sammy offers but you shook your head, “you should go home. I’m sure Johnny is waiting for you.” You smiled, patting his leg.
“You should go home too. I don’t think Mr. V would want you killing yourself here just ‘cause he’s not home.”
Sammy gets up and walks to his locker, gathering his stuff. You mirror his actions, “how are you getting home?” You ask him from your side of the lockers.
“Probably the bus,” Sammy answers.
“Nonsense, I’ll drive. Took Seb’s Aston this morning.”
You had started at one pm today, your shift was from one pm to one am. Usually you liked to be done by ten pm and start at ten am so you did the full 12 but with Seb’s race, you pushed your start time; much like the race.
Seb placed P8 and you were beyond happy for him. You wanted nothing more than to hug him and kiss him but alas, you settled for a FaceTime call on the way to work.
Sammy made small talk with you as you drove him home, he also gave you the rundown about the other doctors and the gossip floating around the hospital because everyone knows nurses have the best gossip.
Johnny, Sammy’s husband, was waiting at the door for him when you pulled into the driveway. You wind down the window, “Thanks for the ride.” Sammy smiles when he gets out.
“No problem, I'll see you on Tuesday ?”
“Of course.”
“Hey Dr. V! Nice ride,” Johnny smiles, walking down to meet Sammy halfway. “Thank you!” You shout back, “you kids have fun!” You smile.
“I’m older than you!” Sammy shouts to you as you pull out the driveway.
It was only a 10 minute drive to your place from Sammy's if you took the direct route but because you were avoiding going home, you took the longer route which was double the time.
Your car was pulled into the garage seeing that you took Seb’s to work so you pulled in, parking next to yours.
You sit in the car for a few minutes, checking your phone and seeing what you missed during your shift.
It wasn't much, a few messages from some friends talking about Seb’s race and catching up for some drinks. You ignored all of them and texted Sebastian, it was almost ten am for him with the time difference opposed to your near three am.
To Seb: How’s Japan ? Send pics! Also, give Mick a hug for me.
To Seb: Love you, both of you lmao
You finally get yourself out of the car, walking into the house through the garage door and locked it behind you. You made your way into the basement to change out of your scrubs, you stripped off and tossed them into the washing machine. There’s a basket of folded clothes you’ve been neglecting to bring upstairs so you dig through until you find something to wear, which happened to be Seb’s shirt, one of his old Red Bull ones that he can’t seem to get rid of.
Heading upstairs again, you walk straight to the kitchen. You were home alone so there was no rush to get dressed or shower, plus to be quite honest, you hated sleeping alone.
Sebastian insisted on getting a king sized bed, even though you two sleep in each other's sides the whole night.
Most nights when Seb was away, you tried to work double shifts but if you couldn't, you slept on the couch; less space means less chance of you missing him during the night.
There’s a bottle of wine in the fridge and you were off tomorrow so you pour yourself a glass, setting it on the counter as you head over to switch on the tv. You search through the menu, clicking on Spotify and letting whatever playlist you had running before play.
Humming to yourself, you go back to the kitchen and with the glass in hand, you search the freezer for the sweets you knew you had in there. The box was buried behind a few other things but you found it eventually.
The little box of lava cakes sat on the counter, you turned on the oven and waited for it to heat up. Setting one of them onto a pan, you leaned on the counter as you waited.
Occasionally sipping on your wine, your forearms on the counter as you scrolled through your phone. Your hip bounced from side to side, matching the beat of the song playing.
The music was loud, you thought you were home alone so there was no one to bother.
You had also come through the garage door when you came in, meaning you didn’t see the white sneakers by the door; your husband’s sneakers.
Sebastian had changed his flight after your call to him. You looked so sad on the phone despite your happy tone of voice. He knew you missed him and he missed you too.
He had come home, even if it was just for 2 days; he missed you too much not to see you.
When he didn’t see your car in the driveway, he assumed you were at work. It didn’t even occur to him to check the garage. He was exhausted because of the time zone changes and went straight to bed when he got in.
He just figured you’d find him in bed.
Instead, he woke to music being played and the smell of something chocolaty. Sebastian very quietly made his way downstairs to find you standing in one of his t-shirts, dancing along to the music as you drank.
He leaned on the wall, arms folded across his chest and he watched you. He didn’t dare say a thing to you.
You had your back turned to him, leaning down to check on the dessert in the oven. You had the half empty glass in your hand, reaching into the freezer to get the ice cream and when you turned around to set the ice cream on the counter, both the glass and the container fell from your hand.
Seb bit back a laugh, watching the horror on your face go to relief. “Sebastian what the fuck?!” You sigh, your hand on your chest.
“Hi honey.” He smiles, walking over to you and you shake your head, now rubbing your eyes.
“I’m sleep deprived and it has to be the wine.” You tell yourself, trying to convince yourself that your husband wasn't actually there.
You bend down to pick up the tub of ice cream and you feel a hand land on your ass with a smack. You stand up and Seb’s chest pressed to your back and he wraps an arm around your torso.
“I’m here,” he tells you, kissing your shoulder. You turn around, your hands coming up to rest on his cheeks. “You’re here.”
“I am.” Sebastian smiles, kissing the palm of your hand.
“I- what, how are you here? I thought you were in Japan.”
Seb turns you, your back hitting the counter before he lifts you onto it. He bends down to pick the broken glass and you nudge his butt with your foot, making him laugh. “I took a flight, obviously baby.” He answers your question, being difficult.
“Haha,” you roll your eyes, “no but seriously. Mick told me you were there when he called earlier.”
“You talk to Mick?” Seb asks, tossing the glass in the trash. You nod, “he just called to say hi because I texted him after the race.”
“You two text?”
“We do but that is soooo not the point right now, Sebastian.”
“You looked sad,” Seb tells you, “on the phone, so I came home. I mean you know, that’s so bad for the environment.. all the traveling.” He waves his finger around in a circle before he shrugs, “but my love for you comes first.”
His words tug on your heart, you looked sad so he came home. He’d put himself through 3 different time zones just so he could spend a day or two with you.
Sometimes it’s hard for you to believe that the fluffy blonde haired, shy, jokester of a boy turned into the incredibly remarkable man standing in front of you.
You never forget why you married Sebastian but days like today were a reminder.
“How’d I get so lucky?” You ask, your hand on his cheek when he steps closer to you.
“I wonder the same thing.. you know, how you got so lucky.” He says with a smile which makes you laugh.
“Such a dork,” you give him a nudge, sliding off the counter to get the cake out the oven and Seb cleans up the spilt wine for you. You set the pan on the stove to cool down for a moment.
“Oh,” Sebastian sighs, looking over at you. “I love this song.” The opening notes of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli began to play.
“Our wedding song.” You hum, smiling at your husband.
The song became your wedding song by accident; the deejay lost the original set list you had given him and was winging it off what he could remember. You were trying not to send yourself into a panic attack so no one cared to mention to you that he wasn’t going to play the right song for your first dance.
Micheal took it upon himself to pick a song, stopping the deejay from looking for you because he thought it was better for you to not go to jail for murder on your wedding day.
He picked the first song that came to mind; also happened to be the same song you had danced to with Mick in their backyard earlier that summer. Mick had to be maybe 13 years old the year you and Sebastian got married, so Seb’s whole notion of you two texting wasn't weird at all because Mick was like a baby brother to you at this point.
That year was eventful besides the wedding, Sebastian won his third championship that year and you completed medical school.
“Dance with me,” Seb grabs your hand, spinning you around the kitchen.
You end up back in front of him, a hand on his shoulder and the other holding his free hand, Sebastian’s free hand rests on your back.
The two of you replicated the steps of your first dance perfectly, a little tradition you had for your anniversaries but today was just special for no reason in particular. When the song came to an end, Sebastian kissed you softly before letting you go.
You move away for a moment to get the cake and set the pan on the counter, you open the ice cream container and hand Seb a spoon. You hum, your craving for sweets satisfied by the cake.
“Wait,” you look over at him, “how long have you been home?”
“Got in around 10, figured you were at work and went to bed. I thought I'd surprise you in bed but you didn’t come upstairs.” He says between bites.
“Hm, sorry. I thought I was home alone.” You chuckled.
Seb smiles, reaching over to write away some of the chocolate from your face, “Happy anniversary,” he hums.
Your brows furrow, “our anniversary was in July.” You tell him, confused.
He nods, “I know, our wedding anniversary; but when did we start dating ?”
You think back, that was over 12 years ago. It was a long time to think back to be honest. Your parents were investors in Red Bull and you had joined them at a few races over the season in 2010. You met Sebastian in April and you two didn’t start seeing each other until August but only made things official in.. October.
“Seb,” you coo, “oh baby, you remembered?”
“How could I forget? You’re the woman of my dreams.” He smiles, a hand cupping your cheek.
“Even after I nearly had a heart attack just now and probably am in need of a shower?” You ask him, smiling at him.
Sebastian smiles, “The good and the bad, honey.”
“Good, I love you.” You tell him, your hand on his cheek before you kiss him. Sebastian’s tongue runs across his lips, “chocolate,” he hums, making you laugh.

Previous: The Escape || The Escape: Waiting Game
Tumblr media
Inspired by @meadow-hearthfire ask:
["The Escape"] I bet Veneer played fetch with Rhonda at some point during the passing months between him leaving Mount Rageous and Velvet leaving.
Veneer finds himself in Bergen town after his escape with Floyd from Mount Rageous. What’s holding him back from moving on? His sister. But an unknown little friendship helps him take the next steps.
Veneer sat outside a bench of what was Bergentown. It was simple, nothing much especially for it being the home of the king of the Bergens. They really were simple creatures, nothing like the rustling and bustling chaotic lives of Rageons.
It had been a couple weeks since his arrival, since he awoke from his mini coma…. And there was still no sign of his sister. He tried to push that at the back of his mind, as far back as he could. She had made her choice and he made his…they both had to live with it. Yet, he still felt sad, burdened, guilty. He felt like he abandoned his sister…
“Aarr rrooo.”
He jumped at the sound. Veneer looked around but didn’t see anything. “Weird…” he told himself.
“Aarr rrooo.”
“What in the world!” He looked around again. Veneer peeked underneath the bench, that’s when he saw bulging yellow eyes blinking at him curiously. A white little creature came walking out.
“Umm, okay.” Veneer looked at it in confusion. It looked like an animal, but then it looked like a bus. But buses weren’t alive? At least not where he was from…
“That’s an Armadillo Bus.” He turned to find Branch looking at him from on top of a post. “Her name is Rhonda. She belongs to John Dory.”
“She?” He looked under her legs. Veneer got a little too close for comfort, she growled and snapped. “AH! I’M SORRY!” He jumped back and hid behind the bench.
Branch laughed from on top of the post and made his way down next to Rhonda, “Do you not know anything about animals?”
“Well, yes, I do….from books I’ve read.”
“Haven’t you had any pets?”
“Oh! A goldfish named Sparkles!”
“Have you ever been to a zoo?”
“Define zoo.”
“Seriously?” Branch arched an eyebrow. Did he not know about wildlife? There had to be wildlife somewhere in Rageous.
Veneer began to grow nervous for some reason, he began to ramble, “Rageous is purely, well, mostly artificial: Mount and Under…So not a lot of wildlife. Except for the Rageous Woods, but no one goes in there…well only the crazy people of Under Rageous. It’s scary. Me and Vels went in there once, we almost died…”
“Veneer. VENEER! Calm down man.” Branch said.
“S-sorry.” He looked at Rhonda who had calmed down next to Branch. She was scratching her head, tongue sticking out panting. Veneer attempted to reach over and pet her. That’s when Rhonda scowled again, baring her teeth she snapped at Veneer. He yelped and withdrew.
“It takes time dude. She’ll warm up to you in no time.”
Sometimes he’d prefer the company of the Trolls, but mostly, Veneer liked spending his time alone the passing days… He didn’t feel like speaking much to anyone…except maybe his sister, but she was nowhere near. He hadn’t eaten the following day, Floyd forced him to go get a burger at the local fast food place the Bergens had. Veneer didn’t really feel like eating, but to make Floyd feel better, he obeyed.
“Want to have a bite together?” The little Troll had asked.
“No…I think I’ll have this alone…for now.”
Floyd nodded, but he worried that Veneer was spending too much time alone…He worried that certain thoughts would enter his mind. The little Troll was about to trail along until he saw devious little Rhonda trailing after the tall Rageon. Interesting, he thought. Rhonda really wasn’t one for strangers…at least JD had said…
Veneer sat under the old Troll tree. Clay had told him about its dark history, and the history with Bergens. He knew Bergens ate Trolls, the ones in Under Rageous hadn’t gotten the memo…and they were terrifying. It was interesting to see how the Trolls and Bergens got along here…like nothing had ever happened. Could that be a future they could also share with Rageons?
“Arr Roo.”
He heard the familiar little cry. Veneer turned to see Rhonda peeking from the corner, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. Veneer looked at her with a mouthful of burger. Rhonda inched closer sniffing the air, that’s when he figured what she wanted.
“You want some of my burger don’t you? Can you even eat this stuff?” Curiously, Veneer tosses a piece of his burger towards the little creature. She sniffs it….then quickly gobbles it up, “Oh shoot, you can.” He tosses her another piece. Every little piece thrown she eats right up. Veneer laughs then starts tossing her some of his fries; it begins to turn into a game of catch. He’d toss the food farther and farther and she’d run and go get it. The cycle continued until he was all out of food.
“Well, that’s it…I didn’t even get a few bites in. You actually ate it all!” He exclaimed. Rhonda sniffed the air. She sniffed the ground and got closer and closer to Veneer that he became afraid to move. Veneer stood still as the small armadillo bus sniffed around him….suddenly, she spun circles and lay near his leg. What just happened? He slowly placed his hand on top of her little body…She didn’t snap, she didn’t growl, she just lay there with her eyes closed, her breathing steadied as she lulled into a slumber. The little creature actually allowed for Veneer to touch her and pet her…Branch was right, she began to warm up to him after all.
Day after day Veneer began looking for Rhonda. He’d ask John Dory where she was at and if he could play with her. He made it their thing where he would buy a burger and share with her. Veneer had only ever had a goldfish as a pet, he was able to teach it a few tricks, though no one believed him. Eventually, he began trying to teach Rhonda some tricks too.
“Okay, sit.” He said. She stared at him wide eyed, scratching her ears. “No, sit. Like this.” He mimicked what he had wanted her to do…She still stared at him with her tongue out, blinking oblivious. “Okay, this is definitely going to take some time to do…”
More days went on as Floyd began to see a shift in the young Rageons nature. Before he would sulk in thinking about his sister. Though he still did, Veneer became distracted and occupied playing with Rhonda. The little Troll would smile as he’d see the two bond: poor Veneer would try his best to teach her tricks while she only stared at him cluelessly, one day he saw them play fetch. Seeing Veneer like this once again was relieving to Floyd, but he still couldn’t help but think back to Velvet. How were they to go back and get her out? Would she even come with them if they did? The Mistress had a strong hold on her. Floyd was trying to figure out a way they could go back and retrieve her for good, because if they couldn’t, Veneer would only be more heartbroken than he already was.
That night Veneer lay alone on his bed staring at the ceiling. He had hoped he could bring Rhonda to sleep over, but JD needed her for an errand he had to run. Spending time with the little creature made him think of what else lies outside the Bergen walls, what else lay outside the glistening lights of Rageous. The world was big, there was so much, much…LIFE! Veneer had always been curious about the outside world. He remembered his sister was also curious at one point. They were so close to tasting freedom a couple of times too during their ventures into the Rageous Woods, but then they couldn’t escape…because they were being watched. They always were, but now they weren’t, at least Veneer wasn’t. Maybe he could go venture the world now and eventually find his way back to his sister. Maybe this is what he needed to grow…
The next morning, Branch was making himself a cup of coffee in his bunker he now shared with his brothers.
“Morning guys.” He declared as he brewed.
“Oooooh! That smells good!” Clay stretched.
“Thank you, thank you. It’s of my own making.” Branch gave him a smirk. He began to serve a cup to each of his brothers…that’s when the ground beneath them trembled.
“Whoa, whoa!” Floyd called out as he steadied himself. Within moments it stopped… ”What was that?”
Knocking was heard at the bunker door, “Branch! Branch! Branch! You have a visitor!” Poppy’s voice called out.
“A visitor?”
The brothers walked out to quite the sight…There standing amongst their village was Veneer, a giant amongst them all. All the Trolls marveled at the sight of him. He came to discover that to the Trolls, Rageons were known as the Giants…They were far taller than most Bergens after all. Veneer saw Branch emerge from the doorway of the bunker.
“Hey Branch!” He chimed.
“Arrrr roo!!” Rhonda came speeding in at the sound of his voice. She nuzzled close to him, begging for affection.
“Hey girl!” Veneer patted her and rubbed her stomach. Rhonda cooed and purred.
“Hey…that’s my armadillo bus.” JD said with a pout on his face, a tinge of jealousy crossing his tone.
“Looks like you have competition.” Clay teased.
Pop Trolls popped out their homes to marvel at the giant that walked into town. Young Trolls climbed around his feet. They could see he was afraid to move even an inch, afraid he’d accidentally step on someone…he had already almost squashed John Dory at one point.
“Why did you come all the way over here?” Branch asked.
“You’re a survivalist aren’t you?”
“I don’t like to brag…but yes…yes I am.” Branch crossed his arms with a smug look on his face.
“Good. I want you to show me how to do it!”
Branch shook his head in confusion, “Wait, say what?”
“I want to explore this world Branch. Learn some new things. Eventually, go back and find my sister. And i think you’d be the perfect person to show me!” Veneer shook in excitement.
“Whoa hang on! I TOO spent some time in the wilderness thank you very much!” John Dory added, “So I would find myself much more experienced than my little brother here.” Branch rolled his eyes.
“OH! Okay! If you come that means Rhonda can come too!”Veneer exclaimed happily as he snuggled the little creature.
Branch withheld a laugh as John Dory’s face took a more serious tone, “Sure. Get excited for the armadillo bus…Not the year’s worth of experience I have.” He glared at Rhonda, “….Traitor…”
“Okay Veneer….Looks like you TWO mentors here who want to teach you what we know. Question is, when do we start?”

WRIOTHESLEY
have a safe trip!
Fluff
CRYO MASTERLIST | DRABBLE MASTERLIST
.
Summary: You have a planned trip of going to the surface coming up, but Wriothesley, in the Fortress, can’t help but worry.
Warnings? Nope!
Contains Sigewinne and Wriothesley, of course!
621 words.
Tumblr media
“Yes, I know, Wriothesley”, you sighed lightly as you put things in a simple hand back along with your main suitcase-like bag. Like books, bathroom essentials, etc. “I will be fine, Okay?”
“Sorry (Y/N), I can’t help but worry for your well-being when you leave the Fortress,” he said, shrugging lightly. And it was true; he couldn’t. You could take care of matters yourself, but it pained him to know he wouldn’t be near you to help in time. He worries a lot about you, even if he doesn’t theoretically need to. “You never know what could happen up there.”
You turned to him with a soft smile, away from your bags that sat on the bed of your shared quarters, “It’s true, I never know what could happen on the surface, but you know I can handle it by myself. And if anything were to happen, I have the best equipment and supplies from you and Sigewinne.”
Speaking of Sigewinne, she walked into the room where only certain people were allowed in, with a nice compact bag full of the stuff you would need if you hurt yourself—bandages, plasters, and inflammatory creams, to name a few.
"Ah, head nurse" Wriothesley turned to the much shorter woman as she walked by, "Is everything ready? Like the tip-top stuff?"
And she, much like you, sighed because this wasn't the first time he would ask this today, "Yes, Your Grace. Now, would please try to relax about (Y/N)'s trip? What about having some tea to relax?" she suggested.
But that only started something else within Wriothesley.
"Oh!" he eventually said, as the figurative lightbulb went off in his head once he realised what else he had to do. He made his way to a smaller room attached to your room that was like a mini-storage room, a walk-in wardrobe. "That reminds me."
At this point, you weren't even surprised. He was stalling. You knew that. Sigewinne knew that. And he knew that. Given the chance, the whole of the fortress would know that. Every other time you had a trip arranged to go to the surface or even another nation, he would do the same thing—stall. because he didn't know what could happen in his absence and wanted to prevent it as much as possible.
Moments later, after waiting and hearing some quiet incoherent words coming from the small room, the now soft-eyed Duke came over with something behind his back. He smiled as he walked over to you, as were now alone in the room. Sigewinne had to go back to the infirmary to check up on some patients, but she would come to see you off with Wriothesley later on.
"What are you hiding?" you asked with crossed arms after just closing your bags, ready to go. You didn't really want to open them again to put something else in.
"I got something for your travels," he said before showing you what he had hidden and gotten you.
"Some tea?"
"A special blend chosen and made by yours truly."
"Thank you, you shouldn't have," you said before you took the bag and kissed his cheek.
"Anything for you."
Later that day, it was time for you to go. You, Wriothesley, and Sigewinne went to the aqua bus station by the Opera Epiclese, where you would take the aqua bus to the Court of Fontaine.
Wriothesley carried your bags for you as you and Sigewinne walked slightly ahead.
The other two would not leave at the station until you were out of sight. But just as the small boat was leaving the Opera Epiclese aqua bus station...
they would both, thanks to Sigewinne, yell out with maximum enthusiasm,
"have a safe trip!"

this is part two of this angsty post about Baby Bradley (you might wanna read it first, just to make sense of this part) - Slider POV
It’s late, too late, when he hears the front opening. He is instantly on alert — Shay’s been sleeping for two hours now, conked out by a whole day at work and cooking up a baby inside her — because it’s too late for visitors.
He almost hits Baby Goose with a baseball bat.
Bradley is taking his shoes off, the spare key they have in the flower pot at the front stairs lying near his backpack. His hands are covered in dirt and he’s looking at Ron with his doe eyes wide.
Everyone says he’s Goose’s mirror image but when he stands there, curly hair getting too long again and messy, with those innocent big eyes and head tilted back, all Ron sees is Carole.
It always makes him melt into a puddle, too.
“Do your folks know you’re here?” Ron will take the dead silence as a no. “How did you even get here?”
Bradley is allowed to take the bus on his own, now that they live in one, stable place and Mav had gone on the three major routes with him — the bus to school, to Ron and Sarah’s house, and to the base.
Ice still insists on driving him around everywhere, just because he is such a control freak.
Bradley’s voice is barely hearable and he isn’t meeting Ron’s eyes as he admits, “I walked.”
They don’t leave that far away — less than two miles — but an eleven-year-old should not be walking around alone on the streets past nine.
Ron takes a deep breath. “Look, I’m going to call Ice—”
“He’s at work,” Bradley interrupts, because of course he does — he always has an answer, growing into the mini Maverick that he is.
“Then I’ll call Mav,” Ron counters.
“He’s asleep.”
“Then you shoulda thought about that before you walked here at one in the morning,” Ron points out before he steps back into the kitchen to grab the phone off the wall.
Midway through the kitchen floor, still in the dark since he forgot to turn on the light, Ron feels a weight hanging onto his pajama sleeve. “Do you have to call him?”
“Buddy,” Ron says because he’s so weak against those big brown eyes but can’t just let Bradley get away with everything. What he did was dangerous. He could have gotten hit by a car, kidnapped, or lost, or—Ron doesn’t even want to think about all the things that could’ve happened.
“I promise I’ll go back home before Mav wakes up,” Bradley pleads.
That’s really not the problematic part in the whole situation. “And what about when Ice comes home and goes to check on you and you’re not there?”
Bradley turns his head away and mumbles under his breath, “He won’t.”
“He won’t what?”
“He won’t do that,” he says, eyes on the floor.
And Ron doesn’t know what it is but there’s just something in his voice, in the way it cracks despite being so quiet, and in his posture, the way he raises his shoulders like a guard — and it’s make something under skin crawl.
“Bradley, what’s going on?”
“Nothing,” he mumbles, turning away from him.
Ron is weak. He is getting bigger and bigger but he is still so tiny it feels like Ron could fit him in the palms of his hands. He looks even smaller, now, coiled up against Ron’s leg like he wants to turn invisible.
“Okay, you can stay the night—”
“Really?”
Ron would scold himself for falling for it, again, but Bradley’s eyes, even with the excitement in his voice, don’t lose the sad tinge completely.
“But only on the condition that I’ll call Mav anyway and tell him where you are,” Ron says, kind of proud of himself for not giving in completely. “And you have to get up bright and early tomorrow—today, so we can take you to school on time.”
He waves his hand, just so those doe eyes go away before he caves in completely.
“Go get your jammies and make those pearly whites—”
“You’re talking to me like I’m five again,” Bradley says and Ron holds back a smile.
“You gotta deal with it, kid,” he says, shushing him upstairs. “Go, I’ll call Mav.”
Ice’s house (and Mav’s, no that he’d call it that, ever, Maverick will never be his brother-in-law, even if they actually get married someday, he's going to be at best a menace-in-law) is on their speed dial as number one.
He’s expected to wait a few minutes on the line, until Mav wakes up and strides huffing and puffing into the kitchen to pick up the phone, but he barely gets the second tone and hears, “Hello?”
“Mav—”
“Slider, this isn’t a good time, Bradley is—”
“—here,” Ron finishes for him. “He’s here, Mav, showed up about ten minutes ago. Says he walked here.”
“What?” Mav spits out. “I was about to call the goddamn police! Ice, I was about to call Ice!”
Ron’ll never admit it but he agrees that Ice probably would throw a bigger manhunt than the police if he found out Bradley was missing.
“Look, he doesn’t want to go home—”
“Oh, hell no, he’s coming home now, I’m getting my keys—”
“I already promised him he can stay the night,” Ron cuts in, feeling a headache coming.
“You can’t promise him stuff like that!”
Ron might be a dad-to-be only, but he can understand why Mav is pissed off. He certainly would prefer if his kid that he thought was missing came back home so he could at least see that he is safe and in one piece and maybe so he can ground his ass but Bradley—there’s just something off.
“What, do you want me to send him home so he runs off again to some unknown place in the middle of the night?”
“Oh, he can try,” Mav says. “Even if he somehow managed to sneak out again, I’ll now know where he is. I’m going to take my chances.”
“I don’t think he’ll come back here again, not knowing I sold him out to you and let you take him back home,” Ron says. He can hear Mav groan into the phone in frustration and he gets it, he really does, but— “He looks upset, Mav, okay, I don’t know what happened but he wouldn’t have sneaked out on a whim, you know that.”
It takes him fifteen minutes and about a dozen promises to talk Mav into letting Bradley stay the night — he knows Mav probably won’t sleep a blink anyway — but finally, Ron settles on making them some tea so they can have a talk about safety and not giving his parents a heart attack.
And about whatever made Bradley act out like that.
He comes back downstairs and the ginger tea is already lukewarm enough to drink — they only have ginger tea now because Sarah is still nauseous despite being well out of the first trimester. Bradley sits down with him at the table, his Spiderman pajamas on, takes a sip and promptly grimaces.
“That’s yacky,” Bradley says.
“Believe me, I know, kid. It was two against one,” he says, feeling sleepy out of a sudden. “Your aunt would bite my head off if I said anything, anyway.”
Bradley still drinks more because he’s a good kid that never complains. Or maybe because he doesn’t want to talk to Ron.
“You want to tell me why you left home so late?” he prompts. “Did you have a nightmare?”
Bradley crosses his legs on the chair — Ice would’ve told him to sit properly but he’s not here so Ron lets it slide. Bradley shakes his head, wordlessly.
“Did you argue with Mav?” Ron tries again. Bradley looks away, at their fridge and the family photos and their collection of sonograms, and shakes his head, eyes not present. It scares the shit out of Ron. “Bud? Did someone say something? Do something, to you?”
“No,” he says, finally, barely hearable. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
Ron weighs his options. Bradley's always been a kid with lots and lots of emotions but usually, he wouldn't mind displaying them raw — he could push but he isn't sure whether that would help or harm the situation more. He doesn't want to pressure him but he also doesn't want him to feel like he's alone with whatever made him act like this.
“You want to sleep in your room? Or do you wanna sleep with us, today?”
"Could I—" he begins and then closes his mouth. Ron lets him think through whatever is going over in his head, waiting, until Bradley asks quietly, "Could I sleep with you?"
"Of course you can," Ron says straight away, still feeling unsettled, like he's missing something. "Just try not to wake up your aunt, she's really grumpy in the morning lately. Don't tell her that I said that, either."
*
Bradley’s been—quiet.
The night visits became frequent. Frequent enough that after the fourth time Ice, like the insomniac he is, woke up and went to check on Bradley to find him missing, Mav and Ice bought him a bike. It was safer if he had lights and a helmet on, and the trip to Ron and Sarah’s house took him less time that way. It still isn’t safe but Bradley hasn’t even tried to wake any of them to take him to Ron in a car, like they promised they would, so any alternative was better.
Ron can’t exactly pinpoint what changed aside from how Bradley’s no longer bubbling a mile a minute and how he seems both clingy and unusually detached from them. He’s been staying vaguely around them but never close enough to touch, like he used to.
Today’s been especially strange. Bradley hasn’t even let Sarah cuddle with him after dinner. He helped her prepare the food, quiet and way too focused on tasks for the bouncy eleven-year-old he is, just asking her what to do next and not even humming along to the radio in the kitchen.
Ron, if this was any other kid, would say he is jittery about the parent-teacher meeting and what his folks would hear while talking to his teacher but in all honesty, Bradley doesn’t have anything to worry about — he has perfect grades, and aside from that fight he’d gotten into a couple weeks ago Ice and Mav already know about, he is a sweet, a bit shy kid who isn't much trouble.
Ice and Mav show up to pick him up at half-past eight. Sarah’s already gone for a nap that will turn into nine hours of sleep and Ron and Bradley are quietly sitting in the living room, each reading their own book. Their faces are turned into a grimace from the minute they step in to greet Ron and Mav is observing the kid like a hawk.
Bradley curls his legs closer and gives Ron a very short look, the big doe eyes telling Ron he is about to ask if he can stay the night. Ron shakes his head before he does it long enough he’ll give in.
“Go say bye to your aunt, buddy,” Ice tells Bradley which is a code for an adults-only conversation.
Ron doesn’t like it.
“She’s asleep,” Bradley points out.
It’s the truth, but Mav still hasn’t said anything, just staring at Bradley, so Ron says, “You can wake her up for a minute, she’ll probably want to know you’re going and will give you a kiss goodbye.”
Bradley hesitates, looking between Ron and Ice like they're tricking him into something. He and Sarah didn't have the greatest of starts — she moved to California not long after Carole got diagnosed and was the least familiar face during that hard time, often completely omitted when Bradley sought out adult comfort. It's been getting better and better the more time they spent together, and Bradley's been especially warming up since they told him about the baby — Sarah would talk to Bradley about the pregnancy often, explaining different things, taking him to shop for baby clothes, letting him think of baby names, letting him touch the baby bump. Ron has thought that maybe Bradley finally felt included enough by her to include her in his little trusted family.
Ron sometimes wonders if it's because Bradley knows he'd almost become his stepdad before he and Carole called it quits — they never told him they were together, tried to test it out before Bradley became attached but maybe they hadn't done a good job of it. Maybe when they broke up when it kept on feeling weird with Goose's memory still in both their heads, they should've explained it to him. Maybe he felt like Sarah took Ron away from him and his mom when he started dating her not long after she moved to San Diego.
"You go, bud, you're probably the only person that won't make her grumpy," Ron encourages.
Bradley jumps off the couch and meticulously puts his bookmark in his book and closes it, careful not to crease the pages or the spine — in a mirror image of Ice, because of course — and walks away to the corridor.
They listen until the bedroom door closes behind him, Ice picks up Bradley’s book and puts it in his jacket’s inside pocket, and Ron turns back to the adults-only conversation with a heavy heart.
“He’s apparently been asking about adoption,” Maverick finally says, barely audible.
“I thought you already adopted him. The guardianship was switched to custody after a year, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, he, uhm—”
He doesn't continue and it's scaring the shit out of Ron. He looks like a wreck of a person.
“He’s been asking whether we can give him up,” Ice supplies, voice perfectly leveled, his hands tucked into his jean pockets. Just, expressionless, really.
“For adoption?” Ron asks. Ice nods. “Jesus Christ.”
Even with how withdrawn Bradley's been, he'd have never gone into that territory with his theories.
No wonder Bradley didn't want to say a goddamn word about what was bothering him.
Ice takes a deep breath and says, voice urgent, "Look, he comes to you a lot when he's upset, did he say anything? Anything that could explain where all those questions came from?"
“No,” he denies instantly. “Do you think someone at school could, you know, be a bit too nosy again?”
They had that problem before, in Lemoore, straight after Carole's death and before they moved, when some concerned parents had started asking too many questions about who Mav was and how he was managing Bradley's childcare and who was Ice and why was Ice so involved. It was the whole reason CPS has even bothered to look at Mav's custody agreement and put Bradley in foster care for so long.
“Bradley barely talks to the other kids, still, even if someone’s parents—” Mav stops and his gaze gets all wet and it doesn't go away even when Ice grips his hand. "I don't know."
"Come on, you know it's not—You're doing everything the right way, Mav, he's been through a lot but you could see he is dealing with it now and he's been happy, it's not—"
Ron doesn't know what he wants to say.
"Just talk to him," he says in the end. "He's your kid, just make sure he knows that."
When he looks at Ice, he doesn't know how to react — he's never seen him looking so lost.
"Where's he anyway? He should be back by now—" he grumbles. Maybe actually having Bradley within their range of sight, unharmed and present and not at some strangers house god knows where would make them feel better. "I'll go get him."
Ron walks to their bedroom like a robot, trying to school his expression by to calm so his helplessness doesn't show.
"Buddy, what's taking so long, did you fall asleep too—"
He stops talking at the view he gets when he opens the door — Bradley is curled up around Sarah’s baby bump, his hand under her t-shirt, and Sarah is dozing off again with her fingers in his curls, blinking sleepily at Ron.
"The baby is kicking," he says and he's whispering like anything louder would spook the baby into hiding again.
“I’ll come back in five minutes, buddy,” Ron says, keeping his voice low.
*
Ron's been baby-proofing the house for what feels like weeks now and Sarah is still insisting it's not enough, finding new boops and beeps to improve. And Ron loves her, really, but he also still works about fifty hours a week and the kid is not going to even be moving much for at least six or seven months after they pop out.
They're certainly not going to let the kid out alone on the terrace for longer than that, he's sure, but he's also sure if he told that he's nine months pregnant wife, he'd be sleeping on the couch.
So he's modifying the terrace, so they have baby doors to the steps and the spaces in the little fence around the elevation is baby-proofed with a bouncy mesh net that their baby can smash their face all they want and not fall off.
It's almost eight already and Ron is still going at it, knowing he won't have the time later in the week but also running on about five hours of sleep, when he hears Bradley's bike rattle on the gravel on their driveway.
"Hey, kid," he says, not turning around from the task and trusting that Bradley is not going to run over Sarah's pansies again. Ron really doesn't want to find her planting new ones while nine months pregnant and he knows she would. "You here for anything in particular or just passing by?"
Bradley stops the bike, getting off and carefully avoiding the flower rows, thankfully. He is walking the thing now, to leave it next to their ugly garden shed.
"I was sick the whole week and now I don't understand my science homework," he tells him. "Mr. Kraig said I should come to the extra classes but we have a test before that."
Ron doesn't look from where he's measuring the stupid tiny fence. "Isn't this something you usually do with Mav and Ice?"
“I didn’t want to bother them.”
“So you thought you’d bother me?”
It’s just a joke — if Ron was a little less tired, he’d have remembered that Bradley’s already been feeling fragile around all the adults in his life and not having the greatest of times in general. He’d have been less snarky or maybe he’d have said nothing or maybe he’d prodded a little bit about why Bradley doesn’t want Ice’s or Mav’s help with homework anymore.
It’s just a joke but he doesn’t even manage to turn around and he hears the bike’s chain rattle as the kid starts biking off god knows where, not looking back.
“Bradley—”
He stands up to go over him but the stupid baby doors are in place and he trips when he tries to jump over them, knocking down the roll with the mesh net. It unrolls on the grass and by the time he's untangled from it all, he can't see Bradley on either end of the street.
"Sarah—" he calls out as soon as he's back in the house. "Call Ice and tell them to call us if Bradley turns up back home."
"What? Ronnie, where are you going?"
He's grabbing his car keys because like hell he's just going to sit and wait.
Bradley didn't say a single thing, just ran out. He's not coming back to them, he knows, and he's not sure how long it'll be before he caves in and goes back home.
He doesn't like it. He doesn't like it all.
He keeps on driving around in circles between theirs and Ice's house, looking out for Bradley's bike anywhere on the road, turning up back to check with Sarah that Ice hasn't called every twenty minutes or so.
It's getting dark when he notices Bradley's bike on Ice's porch.
"I'm going to call Sarah, tell her you're here already," Mav says and he dips into the kitchen.
Instantly, Ron's eyes search for Bradley and he's there, in one piece, in their living room, still getting scolded by Ice.
When he notices Ron and their eyes meet, he looks away, stepping to the side enough that he's well hidden behind Ice's legs.
Ice turns around. "Slider—"
Maybe he's too big, too old, for that, but never for Ron — he grabs Bradley under his arms and hugs him, one hand on his back, another under his thighs. It's as easy as it's always been despite what everyone says.
"Jesus Christ, kid," he blurts out. "You scared the living shit out of me."
"I’m sorry,” Bradley says and his voice is hoarse.
“No, I am sorry, kid,” he says, adjusting Bradley in his arms so he can flatten his cheek on Ron’s shoulder. “I didn’t mean it like that, I swear, you’ll never — never, all right? — bother us, I just—It was a bad joke, okay?”
“I know,” Bradley mumbles into his collarbone. “It’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing, kid,” Ron insists.
He maneuvers him in his arms, detaches Bradley’s hands from around his shoulders so he looks at him and his eyes are shiny and red, and god, Ron just wants to take it all back, take it all away.
He doesn’t know what is going on with Bradley lately and he isn’t telling them but he wants them to have a safe place in them, he wants him to keep coming to them until he finally lets them help with whatever is happening.
“Promise me you know that, promise me you know you’ll never ever bother us, no matter what.”
Bradley doesn’t reply anything to that, instead saying, “Can you put me down? I’m not five.”
“Bradley,” Ice reprimands and Ron doesn’t care if he has a tone when he speaks to him, he just cares that—
“Promise me you know,” he repeats.
“I know, I promise,” he says.
He’s still not looking at him or at Ice, and he still seems so small, like he’s trying to take the least space he can, but he’s—he’s promising and Ron has to let go off him at some point, as heartbreaking as it feels.
He sets him back down on the carpet and Bradley curls into himself even more.
Ice opens his mouth, probably to continue the scolding and use Ron’s worry as a leverage, but Ron catches his eyes before he says anything. He shakes his head.

Juliette Nicole Kazansky Kerner was born on Friday, just a few minutes after three in the morning, after about twelve hours in labor and delivery.
They've decided early on that it was just going to be the three of them in the delivery suite and then for another twenty-four hours. Ron's mama was coming from Minnesota in about a week and that left just Ice and his little family.
They know the plan so they come in on Saturday, after breakfast, after Sarah slept off the exhaustion and is finally ready for visitors.
There are congratulations and hugs and then Julie crying and asking for food. There is the moment Maverick gets to hold her when she doesn't want to burp and gets her to do just so like it's the most natural thing and the moment after when Ice is looking at him with that smitten expression that Ron used to make fun of, before it became almost constant on him whenever Maverick is around.
There's a moment when finally, Bradley gets a very close look at Julie and stares at her with his mouth open and eyes wide and Sarah asks him, "Do you want to hold her?"
And then he's listening like his life depends on it when Sarah and Mav explain to him how to hold a baby and how he needs to be very careful with her head and not make too many movements not to drop her.
“She’s so tiny,” Bradley says and Ron is pretty sure he's repeated it at least three times now.
“That’s why you have to be really careful with her, buddy,” Ice says, adjusting Bradley's arm so it's holding their little Julie closer to Bradley's chest.
They're safely sitting in a big armchair with a pillow underneath just in case, but Bradley seems to have taken the cautions to heart and is holding Julie's limp head up and coconing her with his arms like it's a mission.
“She looked bigger in Aunt Sarah’s belly,” he says, still sounding awed.
Sarah laughs because truly, Bradley was the only one who could indirectly call her big and not unleash a hormonal wrath.
Maybe he said it too soon because Sarah starts crying instead, her lips are trembling when she looks at the two of them from where she's lying in bed still and next thing Ron knows, there's a waterfall.
She's smiling so he isn't too worried. He gets a whiplash because in less thirty seconds, Ice is crying to, still hovering over Bradley like the control freak he is, and if Ice is crying, that means Mav is not far behind.
Bradley lifts his head from where he was gazing at Julie and okay, Ron is a bit teary-eyed, too, by the time Bradley asks innocently, “Why is everyone crying?”
Those big doe eyes just make him weak. He's just praying he'll have more restraint with his own kids.
The nurse comes in to check on both Sarah and Julie, telling them she's probably going to be discharged tomorrow morning if their obs keep on being so good.
"We probably should grab something to eat," Ron supplies. "There's a buffet nearby."
Sarah had refused hospital food. And he's not going to be refusing her some good food when she's just popped a whole human into the world.
Bradley, realizing that standing up would mean letting go of Julie, asks, “Do I have to go with you?”
“No, but remember Mav is going to be picking your food if you stay and you know how he feels about vegetables,” Ice says.
“It’s fine,” Bradley decides and wow, the kid is really smitten, too. “Can I stay?”
They switch Bradley from the armchair to sitting next to Sarah in bed, just in case, and he's pouting the whole two minutes he doesn't have Julie in his arms.
"That was adorable," Ron says as soon as they leave the room. "I didn't think he'd take so well to her."
“I kinda wish we could have another kid just so he could be a big brother,” Mav says and he sounds like he's still melting inside.
“Yeah,” Ice agrees absently and he sounds so dreamy Ron snorts. “What?”
“Tom ‘I Don’t Like Kids’ Kazansky wanting more kids is never not going to be amusing,”
“It’s different when it’s your kids,” he protests, not ashamed at all.
And Slider supposes it is, at least for Ice because Ice is so good with Bradley, loves him so much, that he sometimes wonders if Ice's aversion to kids was just some way to protect him from heartbreak when having kids seemed impossible, given who Ice tended to love.
*
"Our three-month check up is on Friday, do you think you will be able to go with us? It's at six."
He's unpacking groceries in the kitchen, late after getting back from work, and Sarah is sitting in her rocking chair, nursing Julie for the last time before they put her to sleep for the night — she's going to wake up at least twice, but she seemed to have faded into tiredness as soon as Ron got to hold her for five minutes.
He's pretty sure he's only got paperwork to do on Friday so he should be fine, but—
“Thought it was going to be on Saturday?”
“Tom mentioned Bradley’s match is on Saturday, I thought you’d probably like to be there, too, so I made the switch,” Sarah says.
“He didn’t say anything about a match,” Ron notes. “Baby Goose, I mean.”
“We missed his last two so I thought we should probably start going to them again,” Sarah explains gently, her voice going quieter as Julie starts to fall asleep mid-feeding again. “He’s apparently banned Ice and Mav from coming because he’s embarrassed when they come, you know Tom is a bit of a soccer mom and—Ronnie?”
He—He feels it again, the feeling that something is wrong, but he can't really explain what is wrong with Bradley's behavior — kids do grow, get embarrassed by parents and uncles and want more independence. It just doesn't sit right with him.
“He didn’t tell me about his matches,” he realizes. It’s baseball season, it’s been for weeks. “He hasn’t slept over in four months, Shay.”
“He’s almost a teenager, he’s bound to start thinking you’re uncool,” Sarah says and it doesn't—
She isn't saying anything that doesn't ring true, Ron himself had those thoughts when he was much younger than Bradley. But it doesn't sit well with him. Bradley's been so off before Julie was born, for months, and now suddenly he seems to be not only fine, but fine without any of their support.
Sarah bumps Julie's nose, putting her shirt back over her arm and grabs the towel to put over her shoulder—
“At least you’ll have this one thinking you can save the world for a few more years," she says. "Can’t imagine how Mav and Ice are feeling right now.”

Bayley x black!fem reader
Warnings: alcohol, under the influence.
A/n: I’ve been mulling over rather I should do any type of sapphic/ wlw fic for a very long while just never knew how to go about it. Plus the “BBL Bayley” line was the finale straw lmao. Anywho I just really wanted to have fun with this, the idea of Bayley being down bad for a plus size Black woman just make sense in my spirit. This is not edited like at all, I typed this whole thing on tumblr which is a risky move iykyk. I hope y’all enjoy, let me know if you want more. Reblog, and follow for more. ( follow my wrestling side blog for even more wwe fics @slutouttanowhere )
Spin
You typically wouldn’t be in the club till 3am, but it was Wrestlemania weekend, everyone was acting bad. Like on their worst behavior, there were three different hotel parties going on as the company had rented out the whole establishment. You, Liv, and Naomi, your inner click, was hotel room hopping. The last room you ended up in was the most unhinged, of course this happened to Damian, and company, hotel. As soon as you crossed the threshold someone was handing you a red solo, despite the fact you already had a mini, clear cup in your hand from Austin’s room you finished off the mini cup, then moved on to the red solo.
“Oh shit! The champs in the building!” Damian’s loud ass voice shouted over the music, everyone turned to us cheering, and raising their drinks. On cue Naomi and I raised our new shiny golden titles, a group of our colleges swallowed the three of us into the mix. ‘Aye, it’s 7pm Friday, it’s 95 degrees.’ GloRilla’s thick Memphis accent cut off any words you planned on saying. You were already too gone to care about acting professional, the liquor getting the best of you. You hopped into Damian’s arms, wrapped your legs around your bus waist, and screamed along to Glo’s lyrics. “I’m about to show my ass, these niggas love a freak!” You popped your ass while hanging off Damian like he was a jungle gym. Which you know he loved, he made a habit of him being one of the biggest men on the roaster his whole personality. And he was an attention whore.
The liquor was making the room sway, you hadn’t even noticed when you were out back on your feet, but when the music changed again your body moved accordingly. You stumbled to a near by couch and threw your title down, it being far to bulky for you to dance in, however Dolph made it look easy all these years you don’t think you could pull it off. ‘This type shit have you wildin…’ you swayed your hips, slowly twirling them in circles, and your hands caressing your body. Another pair of hands wrapped around your waist, they pulled you into them, you didn’t care who it was, as long as they caught your rhythm. That they did. “I thought I seen that ass walk through the door.” Bayley softly breathed into your ear, her lips pressed to your earlobe, a soft giggle came from her. Which isn’t too out of character for her, Bayley is known to be a bit of a goof, but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t notice her going the extra mile to get more than a chuckle out of you. Your eyes slid down her body, you weren’t used to seeing her wear all black, but her one piece, black body suit accentuated her curves. The embellishments of lace detailing throughout the outfits added a sexy touch to it without doing too much. She had a diamond, Cuban link, a matching bracelet, and an expensive looking watch on her wrist. Her eyes caught how your tongue flicked out, and slid over your perfect white teeth. Your lips pulling back into a grin.
You leaned your body against hers, your outfit more than revealing allowing her to feel your skin with ease. “You’re so soft y/n.” She whispered, her hands pressing to your midsection, and gently squeezing your tummy. You reached behind you, and wrapped your arms lazily around her neck. You could feel her buzz cut from on the side of her head, you always thought Bayley to be pretty, beautiful even. As of recently though with her character change, her wardrobe, and the way she carried herself changed as well. It made you look at her with brand new eyes, she even started talking to you with more convictions as if she just knew she was gonna get you into bed with her…and she was.
You turned in her arms to face her, the pit of your stomach full of butterflies, the alcohol lingering, so you held onto that liquid courage as long as you could. “Kiss me.” You murmured under the blasting music, ‘we can’t just keep talking about, we think too often about it, we can’t just can’t be cautious about it. I wanna get wild.’ You noticed how she slowed her movements, Bayley knew you didn’t care too much about labels, or much about what others thought of you. However, dancing together was one thing, you and the other girls are usually touchy with one another, this was something else.
“You sure?” Her hands held you by hips, she didn’t make a move till you nodded your head. Her hand gently grabbing her chin, your gazes locked, under this lighting you couldn’t really tell what she was thinking. You let your bodies do all the talking, she pulled you into her, she isn’t the tallest, but she talk enough to tower over you. Your eyes fluttered closed as your glossed lips pressed to her, at first she kissed you back softly. The pulsing between your thighs caused you to become slick with your own juices, you had no idea how you were still standing on your own two feet right now. Between the effects all the shots of Cos Amigos, and the way Bayley squeezed your ass, all your coherent thoughts flew out the window. You and Bayley’s eyes fluttered open at the same time, a lustrous look in both your eyes. “You’re so damn fine y/n, you gonna let me taste you?” Bayley pecked at your lips, you stuck your tongue out, and she met you half way. Your tongues swirled around, slipping, and sliding in a wet tangled kiss…if you can even call it that.
“I want you to slurp it Bay.” You moaned out, your nipples twisted painful. The fabric of your shirt top making you regret not wearing a bra with it, it was too late to go back now. The two of you weren’t even dancing anymore, just slowly swaying as you held Bayley as close to you as possible. Her hands slid up and down your back relaxing you beyond what any nights sleep routine could.
“Mm, I bet your pussies so pretty too, I daydream about it. What you taste like, what you like between those beautiful thick thighs of yours…” Bayley went into detail about how your pearl is pretty and brown, and your plushie your labia lips probably were. At a certain point you didn’t have it in you to actually pay attention to because now all you could think about was how fucking pretty she looked. The lighting was purple, but it looked good on her tan skin. Her dimples pushing in on her cheeks every time she talked, and that fucking half shaved buzz cut was doing it for you more than she understood.
You pressed your index finger to her lips, “and you can show me all that in a little while.” You shushed her playfully, you thought it was cute when she rambled, but tonight wasn’t the night for that. “When we get back to my room…I wanna see all that shit you promised.” You purred, you pressed your lips to her again, this time you met each other in the middle of a deeper, hotter kiss. Reluctantly you pulled away, caught your breath, and looked around the hotel room. It looked trashed, the big crowd that was originally al in the center of the room had fanned out. A lot of your colleges were either passed out, on their way, or drunkenly chatting another persons ears off. You caught Liv and Finn off in a far corner damn near dry humping each other, his bucket hat clinched in Livs hand as he sucked on her neck. ‘I told him about that damn hat, it’s a hoe magnet.’ You thought to yourself, Naomi was no where to be found, but knowing her she was in the bathroom on the phone with Jimmy.
“You ready to go? I got your title.” Bayley wrapped an arm around your waist, and pulled you back into her side. You could feel yourself sobering up as the minutes passed by, but that didn’t disrupt your desperate need to have Bayley between your thighs.
You kissed her on the cheek, and took the title from her hands, then took her by the hand. “Yeah.” You spoke ever so softly, if it weren’t for looking directly at your lips you would have thought she didn’t hear you. Without anyone caring to notice, you and Bayley slipped out of Damian’s room, making the long journey back to yours.

I saw Frozen Empire, so obviously I have to talk about it. Spoilers ahead.
Also disclaimer that these are my personal feelings, so if we disagree that's okay too!
So, overall I would rate the movie as good. Not my all time favorite in the franchise, I think that will always go to the original, but I enjoyed it. The story could have used a little work in some parts, but hey, nothing is perfect.
Favorite part of this whole movie: one Dr. Raymond Stantz, hands down. He is so cute as an old man-child whose enthusiasm hasn't waned the least bit over the years. Honestly, in Afterlife he seemed like he'd become cynical, but here his true nature really rang through. And I adore him being a mentor for Phoebe and the other younger characters, while also getting into mischief with them. That little sparkle in his eye when Phoebe asks "Aren't you retired?" No, Ray is never retired, he will always be ready to suit up.
I also loved in the police station when Phoebe was standing up to Dickless Peck, Ray had this face like he was so proud, like he could see Egon in her, memories of him saying "YOUR MOTHER!" 😆
The other thing I liked about the movie was the expansion of the Ghostbusters as a business, with the research lab. First off, I love that Winston, the one who didn't even believe in ghosts when he was hired, is now almost like the CEO of the company. But also, it opens up more possibilities for this new era and allows for more playing with the world building. Though I feel like it was a wasted opportunity to put in some easter eggs for TRGB. Unless the ghosts featured were in the (*shudder*) Q5 episodes, I didn't recognize any of them from the show. Then again, I guess they're newer ghosts so that wouldn't make sense, but maybe they could have been similar kinds of ghosts. Just as a small reference.
Other favorite parts include:
-The near-lesbian romance between Phoebe and Melody
-Ray smuggling the Mini Pufts from Oklahoma (because of course he would)
-Also just the Mini Pufts in general (why are they so violent?)
-The way Ray's face lit up when Peter came to the firehouse
-Peter being proud that Ray quit smoking
-Peter's unwavering faith that Ray's idea is good and will work, and saying they all trust him
-The library ghost (did they never go back to get her???)
-Gary saying the words to the theme song
-Janine in uniform!
-Slimer eating the pizza with the posesser ghost in it
Now, onto the areas that I felt were not as strong. First of all, I found it wild that Phoebe was being ousted by everyone without any kind of fight. She's the one that started the whole thing up again, she's got the passion, she's got the brains, she's got the glasses and the curls! Her mom says a grand total of NOTHING to defend her in Peck's office, and they all just accept that she can't be a Ghostbuster anymore. Yeah, they don't want to get sued, but it's just weird to me that they don't even seem like they feel that terrible that she got benched. Callie and Trevor are very callous about the whole thing. Only Gary seems like he gives a shit, and he's not even her dad. The way Phoebe's benching ended wasn't all that satisfying either. It would have been nice for the other three to maybe struggle a little without her, realize they need her to balance the team, and try to find a way to get her back. Winston was really the one that got Peck off their backs in the end, no thanks to anyone else (also, I'm pretty sure in that scene, someone in the crowd yells 'dickless' 😆).
Side note, I really don't like Callie's character that much. I think she's self-centered and doesn't seem to care about the kids' feelings unless the situation becomes dire. Maybe she does deep down, but mostly her attitude about everything stinks. Idk, I wouldn't care if she wasn't in the movie at all.
Anyway, back to the plot. I liked the idea of Phoebe's plotline. I wish they'd gone all the way and had her and Melody kiss, I really thought that was coming when she separated from her body. But I have an issue about that particular moment. The decision to suddenly put herself in the chamber like that seemed to come out of nowhere, at least I thought so. They made it like Melody was supposed to be the one tricking her into doing it, but she really never said anything to convince her. Phoebe just decided on her own to try it. I know she mentioned a couple of times wondering what it would feel like to be a ghost, but it wasn't a strong enough buildup to such a risky move. Honestly, when she asked Ray about him wanting to be a ghost, coupled with Winston saying Ray was going to get himself killed, I thought they were foreshadowing killing Ray (and thank God they didn't!).
They also hint at Phoebe specifically being the one that needs to be used but why? Anyone could have been tricked into the chamber and been controlled by Garaka for the chanting.
But moving on from that, the other issue I have is with the firemaster. He was a little too good at controling the fire after what, a couple of hours of practice? I think the character could still work, he could still be a quirky weird guy, but I think I would have made him more of a reluctant inheritor of his grandma's powers. Maybe he struggles with it at first and he figures he can sell the artifacts to Ray to get rid of the responsibility. Then later he can finally accept his fate to help beat Garaka when he starts believing in himself.
Those are the only major parts that I felt could have been tweaked. Besides that, I would have loved to see Slimer and Ray get a moment, just as a nod to their friendship in the show, but I guess they want to stick to one continuity. Of all the things they could have referenced from the show, though, it had to be the Junior GB 😆 It was just a throwaway line, but still, I don't want to remember they were a thing.
Tl;dr, the movie was good and there were a lot of parts I really enjoyed. For the parts that were weak, I'm confident there will be another in the future, so hopefully they'll keep improving.
Also, who the hell voted for Peck to be mayor? I bet he rigged the election.
