The second part of our trip has come to an end after a 5 day road trip on the Garden Route. This route took us through rolling hills with vineyards and white sandy beaches along the southcoast and back over the steep mountainous Swartberg Pass and endless desert driving more inland. Total distance was roughly 1700 km.
On the first day, we set off early to see the marching ducks at a vineyard where they use them as a natural pesticide. My hope was high, and expectation set to see a Donald Duck like fanfare marching from the pond into the lush vineyard. Unfortunately, the info provided online was incorrect, and Donald and his troopers had already had their breakfast. Nevertheless, we got a private tour of the estate, which was still very informative and interesting, even for people like us who only use wine for goulash. Next, we stopped by Laura's friend, where we had milktart and tea, in a gated community that did not exist on Google maps. This was a completely different side to living in SA to the townships we had just passed to get there. We continued our journey on to Hermanus, where we did a coastal walk and spent the afternoon watching the abundant amount of whales play and eat in the bay.
The days after, we spent a long time driving with a few highlights. Laura and I went bungeejumping from the 3rd highest bungee in the world at the Bloukrans bridge. This bridge allows for a freefall of roughly 170 meters. I can't deny my knees were weak, arms were heavy, nearly some vomit on my sweater already when seeing Laura and the other "contestant" being strapped up to jump off the bridge, but once it was my turn felt surprisingly calm. I knew I could not withdraw and live with the knowledge that my sister had more courage (or stupidity, depending on who you ask) than me. If you wonder what it feels like, it's exactly what you imagine. Air moving very fast past you, a gentle deceleration, and then a good 2 minutes of blood rushing to your head while you ungraciously hang upside down to be rescued. They must have a laugh up there wondering why stupid tourists pay for such a thing.
Another highlight was buying my souvenir for this trip, which is an Orlando Pirates football jersey. After watching the film Captain Phillips, I got my inspiration on how to name my Fifa and FPL teams. Can't post the name here, or I'll get demonitized, but the true managers out there know what I'm talking about. Besided that, the shirt looks cool, and I am looking forward to wearing it on the pitch!
The last 2 highlights were the Robberg hiking trail on a beautiful sunny day, with a wee detour to the island. And of course, todays 7 hour drive over the Swartberg pass and over the N1 through a desert. For more interesting facts and details, you can read Naomi's blog (nfornaomi).

Tomorrow, we set off for our last part of this trip, a small road trip, and 5 days in Kruger.

'hi, I’m not from the US': 4, 5, 7, 10, 16 and 20
Thank you for the ask ✨
4. Favourite dish specific to your country?
My favourite is milktart. It is a desert with milk, but my aunt makes it with condensed milk which makes it even sweeter
5. Favourite song in your native language?
This is a difficult one, so I will choose two. The first one is 'Die veld' which translates to "The Field" and it is sung by Spoegwolf (my favourite band atm).
The second one is 'Bittermaan' which translates to "Bitter Moon" it is also sung by Spoegwolf
7. Three words from your native language that you like the most?
Lekker (delicious, fun, etc.), verlanger (to be the person to miss someone) I like how there isn't really a word in English to describe it, eish (don't know how to describe this one)
10. Most enjoyable swear word in your native language?
Bliksem, there is no word in English for it, but it is similarly used like bastard
16. Which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one do you somewhat agree with?
I hate the stereotype that there are animals everywhere. It is simply not true (most of the time). I can't think of one I actually agree with rn
20. Which sport is The Sport in your country?
Rugby, without a doubt. We literally bullied our national team into winning the championship. The whole country watched the final

Auntie Cora’s Milk Tart (perfected by mom)
Something I’ve always wanted to know how to cook is a milk tart so no time like the present hey! I enlisted the help of my trusty virtual chefs and you know it was good if there isn’t even a pic of the final product 😁
Here is the recipe from my mom
Aunty Cora always said my milk tart was better than hers. (That is how she got me to bake if for her)
1 X LITRE MILK
3 X EGGS (SEPARATED)
¾ CUP OF SUGAR (FOR SWEET MIXTUR CAN BE REDUCED NEXT TIME YOU MAKE IT IF TOO SWEET)
3 X TABLE SPOONS BUTTER
2X HEAPED TABLE SPOONS CORN FLOUR STARCH (MAZINA)
2X HEAPED TABLE SPOONS CAKE FLOUR (Make sure flour not old will make terrible lumps)
1X HEAPED TABLE SPOON CUSTARD POWDER
1x SQUARE LONG SHAPED TUPPERWARE OR GLASS GREASED BOWL
1. First get all your ingrediants ready.
a. Separate the eggs
b. Mix the sugar and egg yolks
c. Pour ¾ of the milk into a large pot (don’t heat it yet)
d. Pour the balance of the milk into a mixing bowl
e. Sift the Corn, cake and custard flour into the mixing bowl with milk.
f. Stir to get all the lumps out.
g. Tip - Pour the mixture through a sift and use a spoon to get all the mixture paste through the sift.
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
2. Warm the milk on 5 not highest as you don’t want the milk to burn. (Believe me this happens)
3. While the mik is busy cooking, throw the butter into the milk,
4. When the milk is halfway boiling, stir in the egg/sugar mixture and stir so that the sugar dissolves.
5. Quickly whisk the egg white stiff.
6. As soon as the milk starts boiling and you see little bubbles appearing turn the heat down to 2 and stir in the flour mixture while stirring.
7. If the flour mixture is correct it will immediately get thick. Tip - if you find your mixture too thick pour in a little milk but be careful you don’t want to now make it too thin.
8. You must keep stirring to avoid the mixture now burns.
9. Fold in the Stiff beaten White of the eggs into the mixture.
10. Keep stirring for about 10 minutes and tastes if the mixture is cooked.
12. Poor into your greased bowl.
13. Sift Cinnamon over your milk tart.
14. When cooled place in fridge to set firm.
ENJOY!!!
