We were given some directions to go through a village and were told to “watch out for the sleeping policemen”

All of us in the car except my sister knew what a sleeping policeman is (she was looking for a sculpture)! I don’t know whereabouts the phrase is mostly in use, either, is it British English??

We didn’t have houses in primary except for sports day. I believe I was a Team 2 Tiger, but it’s all so fuzzy

In secondary I was in Seaxe. The houses took their names from elements on the school crest which was related to the local area (the Essex symbol is three seaxes. I was not in Essex, but y’know it was local enough). The others were Castle, Forest, Hart (for Hertfordshire) and Lea (for the river Lea, which again is not that local lol). The colours made a reasonable amount of sense - the forest was green, the river was blue, the castle was purple, the deer was yellow and the seaxe was red. They later added a sixth house called Astra, based on our Latin motto. Their colour is white. I would not like to be in Astra.

Then in sixth form I was in Brunel, as the houses were based on famous scientists/artists (Da Vinci, Goethe and Pascal also featured. Struggling to remember the other one, but I’m pretty sure there were five…). Brunel was blue and I know Da Vinci was red, but I don’t recall further than that. I’ve also just now remembered that they weren’t called houses but equipes, bc I was going to a state boarding school that was very much acting like a private school. Most equipe points came from sports but there was one big theatre competition which caused me no end of stress in year 12 because they decided our theatre class should be involved and I was the only member of Brunel in the theatre class so they drafted in 2 other people who were not free during my theatre classes to come and plan with me. Yikes.

with last reblog I'm curious now, brits whose schools had houses what were yours? I was in Kielder and then St David after we moved (both primary schools) and they were both the houses that always did worst lol

Spotify decided I needed to hear this unhinged cover of 12 days of Christmas and you know what they were right this is amazing and you will never guess where it ends up

Literally though, my sister TOLD ME HER PASSWORD and I still couldn’t get into her laptop because she didn’t spell it right (and I tried variations as well)!!

At this point in my life I am being stabbed by my own clothing and bedding quite a lot more than I would like

You see, you know how I lose cross stitch needles? Apparently they’re embedding themselves into my fabrics. It is Not Fun to pull on pyjamas and feel stabbing at the waistband only to pull out a very rusty needle. I put these on straight out of the pile of washed clothes, the hell? It’s also uncool to roll over in bed and feel prickled and have to tease a needle out of fluffy bedsheets

I have no real advice for others on this issue, other than maybe try to keep track of your needles? And put them away in a tin or something I guess??

Very cute moment at choir today. Admin lady was doing the notices about our choir picnic and told us we could wear whatever we want to, which was greeted by an enthusiastic “YES!!” from two tenors in the back row who were looking up the football result on one of their phones

As admin lady said, that would be the reaction you’d expect from 10 year olds being told they could wear their own clothes, not grown adults
