After 23:44:15 hours I completed my second 100 miler. It was an amazing adventure, many thanks to the crew, pacers, volunteers and friends that helped me complete this event. Sugars were a challenge for most part this time. I had to really push during the last two 12.5 loops to meet the under 24 hours goal. I got my A1c results today and I couldn't be happier. This is the lowest my A1c has ever been in my 13 years of being diabetic. I really had to buckle down and be consistent with checking my sugars, counting the carbs, and bolusing. I'm really trying to make this a habit so my next result is even lower.

Next A1c goal: 7.5?

Hey @medtronicdiabetes when are y'all going to start helping us more with customer service? I've been waiting since early December and now February for my diabetic pump supplies to be refilled! I have the insurance for your costs and I've seen the doctors for follow ups and I call today asking where my stuff is and it's still pending? For you guys to want to make supplies for us you sure are greedy to hand it out to us. We're type 1 diabetic. We die without our needed supplies. Seriously thinking of just going back to the pens even though the pump has made my life easier your support and the people who place our orders are not worth it! Seriously how hard is it to get your employees to bug our doctors for information for my supplies? Or let me know that they haven't been able to reach my doctors and just let me run out of supplies? What am I to do now when I desperately need a site change??? I could already had my supplies but no, I had to call and be on the phone waiting for one of your employees who should have already done it to do their job and get it done for me to receive my supplies! You might not understand what a site change means. You might not understand how draining diabetes can be. People tell me "I couldnt poke my child" I dont get a choice. I've seen my son in a coma. If I dont poke him he will be back in that coma in less than 48 hours. A pump means less pokes, even if your child is 2 and rips his sites out making you replace them a lot. I pulled all of this out and set it up and said "come here Finn" he shook his head no and refused to come to me. My son refused to come see me because he knew I was going to hurt him. Then I laid him down and started prepping the site. He bicycle kicked me trying to avoid the poke. Because even though he gets it a lot it hurts him. And then when I finally got his legs pinned and the poke happened he yelled at me and whimpered and tried to pull the site out so I had to pin his arms. And when it was said and done no hugs for mom because mom hurt him. I cant feel bad in the moment because I'm literally saving his life with a poke. But if I told you afterwards my heart wasnt broken I'd be lying. #diabetes is a bitch. Things only #t1d people get excited about. I got my pump upgrade hooked up today. In an effort to be more open about my disease I have been giving periodic updates about living with #typeonediabetes since 1997 on my blog, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I have been with @medtronicdiabetes since I was a junior in high school. That would mean I got my first pump in like 2001 or 2002. I remember it feeling like progress. Instead of being stuck to the schedule of taking 2-4 shots a day and having to eat on a schedule and an exact amount of food at every meal/snack, I had more freedom. Before pumps I took long lasting and short lasting insulin which led to severe lows to where I passed out at least two times where I went unconscious. The pump made these more controllable. Something people don’t understand about #diabetic s: we deal with a medicine every day, 24-7 that yes we need it to live but also it could kill us. I have had a few close calls as mentioned above and I’m sure everyone who’s had #type1diabetes as long as I have has had these close calls. When the pump came along it was like an artificial pancreas. The pancreas is the organ in your body that secretes insulin and I, like most of you, took it for granted until I was 11 years old in February 1997 when it shut down. I was stubborn and let my self nearly die that week. I knew something was wrong and my body gave me the thirst clues so bad I could peel skin off my tongue and the weakness got so bad I had to see the doctor. My blood sugar didn’t register at the doctor it was so high. I was rushed to the hospital with little to no energy left. When they checked my blood it was over 1000. For perspective a normal blood sugar is 60-120 for someone without #type1 . It was a miracle I wasn’t in a coma. This is the stuff people don’t see about #typeonediabetic s. We deal with this monster pulling us down every day, taking it’s take from our body every day, no matter your mood. It is with you when you are playing in the pool. It’s with you when you are at a concert or playing a sport. It’s with you at work. It takes no damn days off & that’s where people don’t see how tough someone is that has it. To be continued.
