Vigilante Shit 《pt.1》
(max verstappen x ricciardo!reader)
Yn Ricciardo is a familiar face for every formula 1 fan, having known her since she was 10 years old as she joined her brother in the paddock over the years, she leads quite a normal life as a normal college student with her boyfriend.. well, as normal as it can be
or
in which yn ricciardo gets through her first heartbreak by the help of her brother's teammate?
N.B: the summary isn't the best tbh... this small series (i think 4 or 5 parts maximum) is inspired by taylor swift's reputation and midnight albums (2 of my all time favourite albums)... I hope you guys like it! Also I left a hidden message for where this is going in here, so let me know your theories in the comments, thank you for reading ♥️♥️ °ps: don't worry, pt2 of the cillian x fem driver reader is coming very soon° WARNINGS: very short, not proof read, swear words, smoking and drinking (mentioned and in pics), 5 year age gap, if I missed anything else please let me know

DannyRicUpdates: YN Ricciardo gone wild?? The 20 year old was seen tody smoking and drinking right before the Italian GP (not really a hot look, the youngest riccardo looks sick and tired). yn is known as quite the lovely and good girl, her older brother always supports her and takes her travelling whenever her studies allow while she has a lovely boyfriend back home who is always waiting for her with open arms(as documented through hers and Daniel's social media) so what could possibly push her to waste her life away?

short taylor swift playlists for each tig character - grayson
here's the grayson playlist! again, some short explanations below that might make zero sense cause i'm tired and can't form a thought that makes sense for the life of me.
#1: down bad: this song's about falling in love with someone, hard, just for them to leave you. in the song, the person who's been left is completely destroyed (to the point where they even consider offing themselves). all of this perfectly describes grayson after the emily fiasco.
#2: the black dog: this song is about the aftermath of a breakup where one person is clearly more affected by it than the other. although the chorus doesn't really fit grayson bc the ex, in that song, is still alive (and emily isnt :)), the bridge perfectly describes how wrecked grayson was after her death, and, we all know that, if emily was alive, she wouldn't care as much as grayson. (its a great song, pls listen to it)
#3: the prophecy: the prophecy is about yearning for a different destiny and the hope one has for a better future. the narrator doesn't want money, they wish for someone who loves them. to me, this song suits grayson really well. the song also mentions a lost love the narrator thought was going to be their forever love, which i think also fits grayson (the lost love could be avery or even emily).
#4: you're on your own, kid: i added this one to my avery playlist, but i think it also suits grayson. i think the title is quite self-explanatory. grayson wasn't raised like his other brothers (they were all raised differently, but grayson was raised to become the heir and the others weren't), setting him apart from them.
#5: midnight rain: full analysis here. i already explained this in more detail, but this song is about a relationship that failed due to two people being too different (the narrator being 'midnight rain' and the lover being 'sunshine'). i think that this suits avery and grayson. i explained in another post that they both want different things from a partner. even if they would've gotten together, they would've never lasted. i also think that there are some lines that could be interpreted as him looking back on his relationship with emily (explained in more detail in my full analysis)
#6: right where you left me: this song is about not being able to move on from an ex. the narrator was left sitting in a restaurant after a break up, and, even after all of these years, she's still there, frozen. (you cannot tell me this isn't grayson. i will fight you if you disagree). some lyrics don't apply to grayson though because the ex in this song is still alive (and emily isn't).
#7: mirrorball: the narrator of the song compares themself to a reflective disco ball. they think they reflect other people's personalities to make them happy. now, grayson is grayson and doesn't change for anybody, but he does try his best to please everyone around him (the song isn't a perfect fit, but i wanted to add it cause the concept does)
#8: illicit affairs: for this song, the concept of it fits grayson better than the actual lyrics. the song is about the heartbreak and happiness that infidelity (or in this case emily) can bring. now, the verses' lyrics don't fit grayson to a T, but the bridge is just so beautiful and so grayson/emily coded that i had to add it (the bridge focuses on the heartbreak). (you could also see it as infidelity because emily was dating jameson and grayson at the same time, but, even then, it's not the best in my opinion). i don't really know how to properly explain this without making it make 0 sense so just listen to it cause it's really good.
#9: peace: this song is about a person not being able to give their lover normalcy or peace. the narrator of the song explains that they'll give them everything they could possibly wish for except for peace (bc of their fame). now, while i don't think the fame part would've been too much of a problem for grayson (even though he is famous), he was too hung up over emily in the first three books for him to have been able to offer a potential lover (avery or even the girl at harvard) peace.
#10: hoax: this song is about the struggles that come with the ending of a toxic relationship. the narrator of the song has been driven crazy by that relationship, but is still uncapable of letting go of the it (does this remind you of anyone... i don't think i need to say more)
#11: death by a thousand cuts: this song compares a break up to a slow death. now, in grayson's case, there was no breakup (just a dead girlfriend), but we could compare his grief and hopelessness after emily's passing to a slow death.
#12: clean: i added this one to my jameson playlist but felt like adding it to this one too. the song is a more hopeful one and talks about finally getting over an ex (getting clean). i think this fits grayson in the brothers hawthorne quite well cause he seems to be leaving that worthless bitch behind.
#13: better man: or in this case, woman (emily). this song describes the aftermath of a breakup with a toxic person and the feelings that come with it. in this case, though, it wasn't a break up, it was just a death. i don't really know what else to say about this song other than pls listen to it (especially if you like grayson bc it suits him really well, just pretend the ex in this song is emily and dead)
#14: haunted: this song is about being haunted by the memory of a past relationship. need i say more? (this song fits grayson so so so so so well, pls listen to it)
#15: last kiss: last kiss is a song about the aftermath of a break up and the feelings that arise (similar to better man but the relationship in this one was healthy, not toxic). the lyrics don't fit him perfectly because, again, the ex is still alive in this song, but i do think it's a beautiful song that suits grayson really well. there's not much else to say.
that's it. the bottom half kinda sucks because i wrote it at 2:00am, but it'll have to do bc i am NOT redoing it. hope you still liked it though <3.

Gave my love
Portgas D Ace x Reader || Shooting Stars
a/n: Make a Wish prompt fill for panda-anon. I am crying because my first draft spun off into the void of my own technological mishaps, so I hope the second version is satisfactory. I'm sorry it took so long (it took forever for me to do the rewrite these last few weeks have been a bit hectic) I hope that you enjoy it! I apologize if Ace seems at all ooc, it's been a long time since I last took a deep dive into his character. He reads to me as someone who would be kind of a tsundere about romantic feelings but able to be happy if he told himself it was "just friends" so he could pretend to be normal about it. The boy has so many excuses: Butterflies? he's happy to see you, feeling hot? he's made of fire, jealous of your attention? you were his friend first... (also the linked song aged remarkably well, it's fun and noisy and is where the title came from) Thank you so much to my friend who braved an omegaverse fic to edit for me. I hate editing my own stuff and she did such a good job making sure that things weren't too obtuse. cw: omegaverse, alpha!reader, Ace's canon compliant self worth issues
Tumblr media
The trouble with narcolepsy isn't the daytime hours. He'd learned to manage those when he was a kid. The trouble comes at night, when his body is visited with the opposite impulse.
Ace rolls over for the nth time. Now, with the same insistence it had put him to sleep, his body pulls him awake.
He follows that pull with heavy, silent steps. He stretches his arms above his head and feels his back pop. He leaves his hat by his bunk, suddenly eager for the sea breeze through his hair.
He hesitates for a moment. Though he no longer gets cold, he considers wrapping something around his shoulders. His pillows and blankets still smell faintly of you. He looks at the bed.
No one is around to accuse him of something so treacherous as longing, but he still jerks his head away and pretends as if he hadn't spent much too long considering such a thing.
When he leaves the covered floors of the ship a bird - he cannot see where it come from - flutters down and nearly clips his head. It's not a seagull. He wonders for a moment, could it be?, but he quickly casts the thought away. Probably not.
A flash of light streaks across the sky, distracting him.
The worn railing is smooth, almost soft, beneath his fingertips when he leans over it. He folds his arms and lays his head in the cradle of his elbow.
He's been dealing with insomnia for the better part of a decade, either waking in the night or not sleeping at all. He'd see Luffy, sprawled out on the floor of the hideout, snot bubbles and not a care in the world. Even though his little brother didn't often notice his midnight absences, even when Ace would show up with prey in the morning, being unnoticed had not left him feeling unwanted.
Knowing someone was waiting staved off the loneliness. Becoming Whitebeard's son had been the best decision of his life. Yet tonight, he has no desire to disturb the sentries or wake a crew member for company.
A glossy black crow lands on the rail within easy reach. It cocks its head at him, warbling low in the back of its throat. Ace narrows his eyes at it, staring until the crow shrinks back, feather ruffling. This was the bird that had almost hit the back of his head, he's sure of it.
It looks almost sheepish at it places a little bag on the rail between them.
When he doesn't pick it up right away, the bird pushes it closer with one delicate claw, bobbing its head.
He picks it up slowly, keeping an eye on the bird. It tilts its head back and forth, clicking in the back of its throat. It takes him a moment to catch it in the dim light: the reflection of your Eye in the black marble of the crow's.
A grin showing teeth makes its way across his face.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi." Sound comes out of the crow's open beak like there is a microphone in its throat, like there's a snail in its belly. It doesn't move in synchrony with the words, but in an unsettling sort of pantomime.
Your voice is made ragged by the crow, but even with one word he knows it is yours. His grin goes lopsided and he weighs the pouch in his hand.
"Fancy seeing you here, pretty bird" he says.
The crow makes a hacking sort of cough he knows to be its version of your scoff coming from its mouth, but the bird rubs its beak against the gleaming wood of the ship, as though to take the sting from the sound.
"I do occasionally have good timing," it says with your voice.
He leans his head on his arms and looks directly at the bird. His gaze cuts through the animal in front of him and to you on the other side. One side of his bangs falls across his eye.
He has some idea of what you do, but not exactly. He knows it's dangerous, for a certain value of dangerous. You go to places he hasn't seen yet.
When he asks you where you are, you tell him about places you've been, never where you recently were. You don't relent even when he pries, whining low in his throat at your typical evasiveness. The crow speaks the rusted over name of some island he's never heard of.
When he asks you how training is going, the bird does some funny little movements that require it to over-correct when it nearly falls off the rail and imitates the sounds of bo staffs colliding.
The sentry peeks down from a higher level. Ace waves them off, feeling suddenly defensive. He wants to keep this moment a secret.
The bird freezes, looking up from where it's hunched over in an all too human kind of expression that reminds him of the last time you were a guest of the Whitebeard pirates and you'd raided the kitchens with him, sneaking around with unnecessary stealth, pressing back as if to hide him from every passing shadow until he was giggling into your shoulder, you scents mingling as you sweated under the hot atmosphere of a nearby volcanic island.
He snickers as the bird shakes its feathers flat again, giving an experimental little croak and finally straightening up when the noise doesn't immediately bring the sentry back running, looking out for his crewmate. The bird bumps his hand, as if to draw attention to it, and Ace draws his fingers through the soft, smooth feathers.
When you creakily ask him about his own recent adventures, you offer tidbits from the news to get him started, and it warms him in a very strange way to think you've been keeping an eye on him.
Eventually, the late night catches up and a comfortable quiet settles around the two of you.
Ace listens to the crow's low gargly kkqrk as it moves on its perch. He smirks to himself at the sight of the shining black bird shifting against the star scattered, velvet night.
"Are you going to open it?" you, finally ask. The bird pecks emphatically at the rail by the velvety bag.
All of the bird's expressive hopping and pecking for excited emphasis is so very un-human. It amuses him to imagine you puppetting the creature, instructing it to dip and flap for his benefit, even though he knows it is more akin to the bird itself interpreting your emotions.
Even so when the bird, looks at him, he can almost see the pleading look only you can pull off. Truly and delightfully uncanny.
He sighs as if it is all a chore, bobbing the pouch up and down on the string wound around his fingers. The crow follows with the movement with its beak and then its whole body.
"Should I?" he muses. "Suppose I save it-"
The bird all but stamps its little grey scaled foot in expressing your impatience and he laughs at you, at the odd humanity of the motion, as he finally does open the bag, drawstrings tangled in his fingers.
The contents of the pouch glitters, even in the starlight.
"How nice," he says, opening the mouth of the bag wide to reveal an array of crystals inside. "A good bit of shine."
All pirates of course liked things that gleamed. As did crows. The bird tilts its head between his face and the bits of rock in his hand.
He shifts them around in the bag. There are many colors.
"You should try one," it - you - says, shifting its weight. The bird stayed almost perfectly still, head tilted as it took in his incredulous expression.
"I am not dumb enough to eat rocks."
"I know."
The bird, peers up at him, blankly expectant.
Ace looks back in the bag and eventually plucks one of the crystals out. It's orange bleeding into purple like a storm ridden twilight and edged like the inside of a geode.
He glances once more at the bird, at you, but the creature just shuffles its wings to sit more primly against its body. Ace has never been very good at backing down from a dare.
Still he bites down very very carefully.
The crystal cracks apart under his teeth and spills sweetness on his tongue - plum and passion fruit, tart and bright and dark again, like the last touch of a setting sun. The outside is hard and cool like stone, but falls away to jelly by the time his bite sinks to the center.
He cannot help the way his eyes go slightly wide.
"Where are these from?" he asks.
"I made them," your voice slips from the bird's parted beak, almost shy. "The King of Kettles taught me," you add fondly.
He nibbles on more of the crystal, candy he now knows. Rock candy, he thinks as he grins to himself. He's not sure when the last time someone brought him candy of all things. Sugar is expensive no matter its source, and sometimes hard to find among the islands. Even syrups made from fruit would take a long time to make.
"Make sure to brush your teeth!" The crow interrupts his thoughts with a trumpeting, too loud, cackling sort of caw.
He stuffs a corner of the crystal into the crow's beak, interrupting the sound with a choking, fluttering, sputtering.
One thing about birds is that regardless of interpretation, they are sometimes not very good at managing their volume.
The crow hunches over, sending Ace as dirty a look as it can manage. You consider having it play dead, just to get back at him, but the shuffling attention of the sentries has you, the crow, freezing in his shadow.
You are reminded, somewhat guiltily, that your welcome on Whitebeard's territory does not give you unrestricted access, even for stolen moments like this.
But again, Ace waves off the inquisitive sentries, and they go, because he is the commander of the second division.
Ace can tell that they're curious, but this is for him, for now. In the morning if they or anyone asks, he will tell and laugh and tease. And it will be real.
This is real too. He feels protective of this moment, even if it is only a crow with your Eye as a glossy, curved reflection. It's his little secret.
It's not in his nature to keep secrets. Not for long. But for a while, he wants to keep this one. Not out of shame, not like the other, but because this one is warm like a glowing coal.
It is his, to follow the direction of a falling star and have a bird deliver him a gift and a conversation. You can't tell him where you are or where you're going, but you have frequent, funny little names that are familiar enough that you can tell him stories and he knows of whom you speak. The King of Kettles, Catfish, the Forlorn Maiden - all of them people he has never and likely will never meet.
Do you have a secret name for him, do you tell people about him? Something meant to safeguard him from the world?
Will there ever be a time when he isn't the secret? When that secret doesn't drag a darkness along behind it to cover those who know?
Another flash of light goes across the sky - blink and you'll miss it.
He sees it, you don't, going in the same direction as before. It flies away into the night.
Slowly, through the odd technicolor vision of the crow, you see a closed off, thoughtful expression take the place of the easy smile from before.
"What are you thinking of?"
The crow's hissed approximation of a whisper should be unsettling but it isn't.
Ace leans his arm on the railing and looks over at you, at the crow. The corner of his mouth lifts up, but he can't put enough of his heart into it to cover the melancholy.
He finds himself wishing for your scent. Sending a bird is one thing, but if he had not seen the Eye, he wouldn't have even been able to tell you it was you there, and not some well trained pet.
"I wish you were here," he sighs, reaching out to run a finger over the bird's smooth head feathers.
The bird ruffles its wings and says nothing. There is a long moment of nothing, long enough that Ace thinks of going back to bed. Sleep is finally reaching for him, he can feel the chill of it on his skin.
It's through the quiet of the dark that it finds him, a dull sound, almost at the edge of hearing.
He reaches out with his awareness, scanning the sea for any creature stupid enough to attack one of Whitebeard's fleet. A Sea King would be a bit of bedtime fun. Or it might be the distant sound of canons, although intuition tells him that isn't it.
The sound gets closer. It is not canons or the writhing movements of a deep water monster. It is more like someone shaking out sheets, but as regular as a sleeper's heart - the flap of wings.
He sees a shape, black on black, in the distance. It vanishes between one blink and the other, melting into the night. Another shimmer of light falls overhead while the wingbeats suddenly disappear.
Ace remembers owls and the way they hunt, swooping silently down upon their prey. He looks up to see if the watch is at all disturbed, and then to his left. The crow is gone.
The wingbeats return, now soft and so close. Right below him. He looks over the rail and a familiar face rises up to meet him.
This crow upon which you sit is longer than him if he were to lay down, feet and fingers pointed as far as they would go. It drifts upon the shallow eddy stirred up by the ship, drifting alongside.
"Hello," you say. You're smiling. Teasing snatches of scent get caught in the sea breeze.
From behind, the crow that had been your mouthpiece swoops down upon your shoulder.
"Willful thing," you say to it.
It croaks, head bobbing cheekily.
"Hi," he says. His heart feels like it's soaring, light alongside you, every whoosh of blood a wingbeat.
"I heard you," you say, nudging the crow's chest with your finger.
"You do occasionally have good timing," he says, grinning wide.
The enormous bird flaps a few times, slowly, up to the level of the rail.
He catches you when you slide over the side of the ship and step onto the deck. He never feels the flames when they come from him, but your palm sliding over his makes him feel like he's burning.
"I think I'm going to be in trouble with your Father," you say, shrugging a shoulder, "for the bird."
It croaks again, and then caws, as if to prove a point. The both of you wince.
"I'll tell him you came for me," Ace replies. He doesn't bother to keep quiet now, but that's alright. The bag of sweets you brought him dangles around his wrist like a charm.
You're a little breathless when you look at him. He can see stars reflected in your eyes.
"Whenever you want me."

He shakes his head and she looks angry now. “Stop whatever the fuck this is! We care about you! Let us in! We're safer in groups.” The words don't hurt as much as he thinks they should. “Not that much safer.” He spits back out and she blinks. “Max is as good as dead. Eddie is dead. And guess what! Not am I only feeling very critical towards Taylor Swift due to her choice in Guy She's Dating right now and the implications about where her morals REALLY lie and questioning now how much of her activism has been for publicity but also what the fuck is she doing with all this marketing nonsense happening.
The exclusive CD just for "You're Losing Me" when her show tickets are so hard to come by for many folks, the Karma feat. Ice Spice collab is weirdly put together. Rap isn't my favorite music but even I am aware that Ice Spice is VERY talented yet the song kinda??? Fails to play into her strengths??? Also since Taylor recently released Karma as a single you'd think she'd actually wait until the Ice Spice version was ready and release THAT version as a single. Then of course there's the mess of He Who I Am Not Gonna Name and his garbage plus his beef with Ice Spice then the timing of this release...doesn't look good. Now I'm still feeling inclined to think this collab has probably been in the works for a little while at least since I can only imagine the legal side of things takes some time. But at the same time the poorer quality (in my opinion) of Ice Spice's parts does contribute to it feeling a little rushed. Seriously I don't hate the idea of this collab at all but it really feels like they just tried to shove Ice Spice in there instead of naturally making room for her.
And furthermore, I just kinda personally despise "Feat. MORE Lana Del Rey" The song sounds great. If rumor is to be believed this was how the song was supposed to turn out but Lana didn't know what part she was supposed to sing?? So it was submitted as the original version??? And Taylor just left it??? Instead of reaching out and saying hey actually let's rework this??? Like girl you have sooo much money you can easily get back in that recording studio wtf. I do actually like how the original Snow on the Beach but at the same time I'm so confused as to why it was allowed to just go forward if this newer version was supposed to be the original version. It feels like either the original SOTB was never supposed to be a duet only a feature and it was overly marketed as a duet or...Taylor and/or her label really not paying attention. Don't like either of those. So, to rerecord what should have already existed in the first place to sell a whole priced album again for one new song (which wasn't a new song since apparently it was on physical additions of Midnights), one collab that needed more time in the oven, and now the "real" version of an existing song stupidly called "feat. MORE Lana del Rey"...Seriously you guys couldn't have extended the music a bit and called it "extended edition" or something. For some reason just the way it's titled and knowing the supposed background of the song has me scratching my head and feeling a little rubbed the wrong way.
I don't know if I'm explaining this coherently at all but the whole situation feels a lot like a mess, a bit of a scam, and a lot like a PR move. Feels to me like Taylor's got a lot of yes men in her corner at the moment. And I'm sure she's plenty powerful enough to go "actually I'm still gonna do what I want" even if there are people telling her no. But really feels like she's flying in so many chaotic and messy directions at once with no one telling her she should slow it down, reign it in and think about this a little more. She's very smart and very talented yes, I am still a fan of hers! I've been a fan since 2006! But not gonna lie! I feel deceived and betrayed by her thanks to her being with MH and a lot of her business decisions lately are very confusing. Don't even get me started on how CHEAP the VIP boxes and a lot of this tour merch is turning out to be despite how expensive it all is.
Taylor, can I ask YOU a question. What the fuck.

This was originally for school, but I decided to post it here! It was translated by a website, as I didn’t write it in english, so please excuse any grammatical mistakes!
THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY (TTPDTA)
The first song on the album is called Fortnight and is written by Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Austin Post (Post Malone). The song is sung by Swift and Post and is about four minutes long, with Swift singing most of the song. I would describe the song as a quieter song than what most people know Swift for, but the lyrics are still quite dramatized. It's about a person she was dating but is now an ex. Their relationship went from romantic partners to friendly neighbors, but Swift isn't quite over him yet. In the song, she says "I love you, it's ruining my life" repeatedly, which emphasizes how strong her feelings are for her ex.
Song number two is a kind of title track, , i.e. a song by name on the album. The song was released with the first album TTPD, and is a title track for this album, but does not have the full title of TTPDTA. The song was written by both Swift and Antonoff, but is only sung by Swift. This song is slightly longer than the previous one and is about five minutes long. I'm not sure exactly what the song is about, but it seems like it's about a relationship Swift was in that isn't as good as it once was. In the song she says "who's gonna know you like me?", which I interpret as her talking to her boyfriend while he's on his way out of the relationship. Swift hasn't said what the song is about, so this is what I interpret it as.
My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys is song number three. This song was written by Swift herself, and sung by her alone, and is about three and a half minutes long. This is one of the few songs she has spoken about in terms of theme and inspiration. According to Swift, the song is about being somebody's "favorite toy", but which is destroyed over time and is then lost interest in. Yet you feel that this person is going to go back to loving you like they did before when you were new to them. This is one of my favorite songs on the album because I like the tempo of the song and how it is produced. The tempo of the song is not very calm, but not very fast either. When it comes to how it's produced, it's produced by Swift and Antonoff. Something I have noticed is that I prefer her songs that are produced by him and Dessner.
Down bad is also one of my favorite songs on the album, and song number four. Like the song TTPD, the song is written by Swift and Antonoff, and sung by only Swift. I think the song has the feel of a song written after you've been broken up with. In the song, she reminisces about when she was with the person. She says "For a moment I knew cosmic love. Now I'm down bad crying at the gym." In these sentences, you see quite a contrast between what the relationship was like and what it was like to be broken up with. She's not just sad, in the song she says "So fuck you if I can't have us", which shows that she's both angry at the person, but also sad that the relationship ended.
Song number five, So Long, London, is one of the first really sad songs on the album. One of the first things you notice about the song is that there are a lot of harmonies and layers to this song. The next thing I noticed is how much "quieter" the song is, not necessarily quieter, but the instruments and sounds are not as loud as the others. Something I've noticed is how the quieter and sadder songs are often written by Swift and Dessner, not Swift and Antonoff. This song is then written by Swift and Dessner, and sung by Swift. Another thing I noticed when I first listened to the song was that it seemed like it was written about the same situation as You're Losing Me, a song that was released after the album Midnights (2022), but rather after the situation is over. The song also seems like Swift is reflecting on both the situation and the relationship between her and her boyfriend. In the song You're Losing Me, she says "My face was gray, but you wouldn't admit that we were sick", and in So Long London, Swift says "And I'm just getting color back in my face". This is just one of several similarities between So Long, London, and You're Losing Me. In the song London Boy from the album Lover (2019), she says "You know I love a London boy!", and in the song So Long, London Swift says "So long, London...", which I think is a contrast. More specifically, I think these songs are about the same person, a person she was in a very serious relationship with, but which is now over. There are a lot of similarities and parallels in these songs as well.
The first song on TTPDTA is called The Black Dog. It was written and sung by Taylor Swift herself. The song is produced by Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift and is approximately 4 minutes long. The name itself usually refers to depression, but this name also has another meaning. The Black Dog is also a bar, and in the song she talks about how her ex brings their new boyfriend to the same bar they always went to. Swift says "Six weeks of breathing clean air, I still miss the smoke." This could mean that the relationship between Swift and her ex wasn't healthy, but she still misses it. She knows it's not good for her, but she misses the person so much that it doesn't matter. Swift's ex brought their new boyfriend to "their" bar, which says that there is also jealousy in the song. I think the actual meaning of the song is that she misses an unhealthy relationship, while seeing her ex with her new boyfriend being happy together, while she's devastated that their relationship is over and that the person has moved on so quickly. The song starts off calm and pleasant, but becomes more intense as it progresses. Specifically, the music becomes more intense when she says "Old habits die screaming", and extra intense on the last word. Shortly after the first time the music reaches the highest point, it calms down. However, the music builds higher and higher throughout the song. This is something I think makes the song more interesting. I think this is a good song to open an album with as it is both interesting in terms of music and meaning.
Song number two, imgonnagetyouback, was written and produced by Swift and Antonoff, and like most of the other songs on the album it is sung by her alone. This song is also about 4 minutes long, but is slightly different from the others so far. imgonnagetyouback falls under the genre of pop. In the song, she talks about how she's not sure if she wants to take revenge on the person or get back together with them. An example of this is when she says "Wether I'm gonna be your wife or gonna smash up your bike, I haven't decided yet, but I'm gonna get you back." This emphasizes that she hasn't decided how she feels about this person and doesn't know what she wants to do about the situation. I think this song carries on the more intense part of The Black Dog, but more what sounds are used, above how intense the music is. This is one of my favorites because I prefer a more "active" song over calm songs, so this song hits the mark pretty perfectly.
The third song, The Albatross, was written and produced by Taylor Swift and Aaron Dessner, and sung by Swift. The song is slightly shorter than most of the others on the album, clocking in at around three minutes, and is a fairly quiet song. In the song, Swift says several times "She's the albatross, she is here to destroy you", and much more about the main character in the song. She also says "They tried to warn you about me", which shows that the song is being sung to someone, and if anyone, herself. A sentence that shows that what is said can be untrue is "the devil that you know looks now more like an angel". People see her as a bad person, but when they get to know her they see that she is actually a very good person. That's why I think the meaning behind the song is that others say a lot of things that aren't true about the main character, to the person she's in love with, who's also in love with her. Because of what everyone says about her, no one likes her, so she ends up all alone, but there is someone who doesn't believe everything they say. This person is warned about her, but doesn't believe what they say. The person gets to know her and sees her for who she is.
Song number four is a bit out of the ordinary for Swift when it comes to song titles. The song is called Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. The song is sung by Taylor Swift, written and produced by Swift and Dessner. It's about three and a half minutes long, and like The Albatross, quite calm. I think the song is reflective, reflecting on a relationship that is falling apart, but no one is doing anything about it. Some phrases from the song that I think support this theory are "(...) hands in the hair of sombody in darkness, named Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, and I just watched it happen." I mean, she's saying that her boyfriend is involved with someone she doesn't know, but she couldn't do anything about it, she just stood there and watched it happen. Later in the song she describes how she changed and pulled away from the person, but they didn't do anything about it, they just watched it happen. No one dealt with what happened, but they both watched it happen.
The last song I'm going to write about, song number five, is called How did it end? Like the two previous songs, the song is written and produced by Swift and Dessner, and sung by Swift alone. How did it end? is about four minutes long, which is quite common on this album. Much like Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, I think How did it end? is also reflective, but now more obvious. Swift starts the song by saying "We hereby conduct this post-mortem". A post-mortem is something you do after a person has died, trying to find out why, or looking at the body of the deceased to find out something else. So I think this song reflects on how and why a relationship ended. Swift also repeatedly asks "how did it end?", which directly states that she is not sure how the relationship ended.
THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY is a long, and in my opinion, good album. Swift has great variety in her songs, both in length, genre, and mood, which is something I like. She's very good at explaining, conveying and formulating situations and stories, so her lyrics are also very nice. The last thing I want to talk about is her voice and how she uses it. Swift has a large vocal range, and she uses it. In this album, she mostly uses the lower part of her vocal range, but also the opposite part. She has in songs like Who's afraid of little old me? where she sings quite brightly. This is also something that is important, in addition to the fact that she has depth and control over her voice. All in all, I think this is a very good album and would recommend it. I give this album a 6/6.
Looking back on this, I think I wrote this while being sick, because grammar and obvious meanings of the songs decided to go for a walk, and never come back. I do agree with most of it, if not all. Hope you enjoyed, and if you read all of this, I hope you still have years left to live, because who let me write a text this long…

So I’m contemplating reading the Midnight in Scotland series and love your book blurbs (they’re just so clever and they make me laugh!) - any chance of an overview of that series??
Aww, thanks. Just being my kind of dumb self, lol.
But, yes I can give an overview!
Midnight in Scotland spins off of Braden's Rescued from Ruin series, which is very Stuffy English the same way Midnight is very Och Aye, and the connecting factor is the Huxley family, which is Braden's favorite Rescued family because they fuck like rabbits and have a billion kids. But like, in Rescued, the heroes wear nice clothes and nobody does farm work, and in Midnight the heroes are like "yer nice jackets are for fookin losers, lass, come watch me tend to coos" (the pronunciation of "cows" is a BIG. DEAL. in this series) and you're like "this seems extremely logical".
Also, it's about the MacPherson family. I don't think they have like, an actual title? But they have a lot of cash and influence and tbh they sometimes give me Scottish Mafia vibes. Every book has a MacPherson protagonist.
The Making of a Highlander--The only one without a Scottish hero, because it has a Scottish HEROINE. Annie is not a MacPherson by blood, but she was adopted into the family and is the only daughter and it's extremely adorable. But like, Annie is basically fucking insane (the book tries to be like "Annie isn't crazy" and I would say "well no Annie did not deserve to be bullied but her grip on reality is iffy"). Her best friend is a CHILD GHOST. And the child ghost is leaving this earthly plane and Annie thinks he tells her she needs to marry a lord and have his baby so the child ghost can be reborn? Yes. But she isn't a lady and doesn't know lady shit, so she asks John Huxley, the only Englishman she knows, to teach her how to be a lady because she thinks John is prissy (he's not he just like bathes regularly). What she DOESN'T know is that John is a viscount because he keeps that on the DL. But he wants to win these manly Highland Games and also Annie's got a rack that won't quit so he's like "yes fine I will My Fairy Lady You if you teach me how to throw cabers(?)".
What I really love about this one is that John starts out very annoyed by her, but when he falls? He falls RIDICULOUSLY hard. Like her dad is all "I KIN SEE HOW YE LUIK AT MY DAUGHTER JOHN HUXLEY" and John is like "i WOULD NE--well now that you point it out". And the book is for sure a nod to Pretty Woman, including a scene where she's all "The ladies at the shop were mean to me :(" and he goes "MEEEAN???? TO YOU????" and like ruins actual lives.
The Taming of a Highlander--You know the golden boy oldest brother Broderick? Well he was wrongfully imprisoned and tortured for months and now he's out but he's super scarred and lost an eye and understandably he's a bit upset which is why John Huxley's little sister Kate, a Writer Girl, sees him attempting to kill a guy! Oops! And now she's volunteering to marry him in order to avoid having to testify against him because she feels bad about it! In the scene where she proposes marriage she's like "and I guess we can have one or two kids" and she can visible see his dick moving around in his pants, I was entranced.
This book is definitely a bit darker than the first, and it's very much a "let me help you recover from trauma with my pussy" novel, which is something I personally love. Also, the heroine becomes DICK DUMB and is fully aware of the risks of becoming dick dumb because all her sisters were also romance heroines. Nonetheless, she sweeps into his room with breakfast in bed at one point, singing a song about his cock coming out to play. And he's like :D because that's how you help a romance hero trauma recover. He also tries extremely hard to avoid fucking her, and at some point she just bursts into his room like the Kool-Aid man and is all "LOOK. I KNOW YOU MIGHT BE AFRAID OF SPLITTING MY PUSSY IN TWO. BUT I'M UP FOR IT."
The Temptation of a Highlander--The heroine of this one is another English lass, Clarissa, and she has A PSYCHOTIC. STALKER. (Warning: a decent amount of animal death in this one, partly because farm but partly because stalker.) So she comes to Scotland, and she intends to marry her gay best friend to avoid the stalker, but then Kate from the above book is like "omg bitch my brother in law Campbell is the bIGGEST BOY EVER, you should go stay at his farm so he can bodyguard you" and Clarissa is like "hehehehehe maybe not heehehehe" because she's fully aware of Campbell's bigness, as he's always like, lifting pianos in front of her and shit. And Clarissa has it BAD. And she can't stop saying the worst fucking double entendres to him, like "oh you're a farmer??? I can see you plowing things deep and hard" or "hahaha you're so much bigger than me, I bet you could break me in two". And as a nice guy, Campbell is always like "...." when inside he's like "!!!".
Very good, and has one of my favorite hero moments in a while wherein he's proposing marriage and basically goes "look Clarissa I'm not an idiot I know you are literally gagging for it so we might as well get married". HOT. TBH. I will say this book does kind of have a "heroine was fat and then lost a lot of weight by dancing (lol) and that's when the psycho stalker became into her", which I don't loooove, but Campbell, to be fair, only meets her post weight loss. So there's not a "the HERO is only into her after she loses weight" angle, a la Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.
I enjoy them all quite a bit, I would recommend reading them in order (especially the first two) and they're like... a good mix of campy and hot and romantic. I find them much sexier than most of the Rescued books. Like, all the heroines are virgins, but they also are all extremely horny, and I find that a lot of the sex scenes have a real "Put your back into it, man" vibe and I personally love a heroine who's like "mmmmmm I think you can fuck harder than that, sir". Like let's treat romance heroes like prized oxen thanks.

Donald Duck - 10...9...8...7...
Story code: D 2022-041
Origin: Denmark
Title: 10 ... 9 ... 8 ...
Pages: 12
Layout: 4 rows per page
Writing: Aleksander Kirkwood Brown
Art: Massimo Fecchi
Year of publication: 2022
Like last year (that is, the year before last), I again decided to translate comics into English. Although my scanlation didn't work out very well, I made sure to take a photo of this comic so you can see what it's about as I translate the dialogues. This comic is only published in Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Serbia and I will translate this comic from Serbian to English. If there are any doubts, feel free to ask me. It is certainly about the New Year's celebration in Duckburg. And if someone has to correct me about the English language, feel free to correct me.
Now let’s get started.
Tumblr media
Residents of Duckburg welcome the New Year.
Daisy Duck: "It's so generous of you to invite us to a New Year's party at this fancy hotel, Uncle Scrooge!"
Scrooge McDuck: "I must admit that it is much more than generosity! I am buying this hotel, and the owner first wanted to have dinner with me and my family."
Scrooge to Donald: "So watch your behavior, Donald! Everything has to be in perfect order!"
Donald Duck: "I'm always up to the task, Uncle Scrooge!"
Grand Hotel Owner: "Welcome, Scrooge! I hope that at the end of the dinner, we will conclude our contract!" Scrooge: "Me too!"
Daisy to Donald: "Where are the boys? And why did you bring your math workbook to the party?"
Donald: "Long story! I'm afraid the boys won't be joining us tonight!"
Daisy: "Get ready for the countdown!"
Grand Hotel Owner: "Let's sign the contract when the clock strikes midnight!"
Scrooge: "Great idea!"
Gladstone Gander: "Why are you smiling like that, Donald?"
Donald: "I'll tell you in ten seconds!"
But a lot can happen in ten seconds…
Tumblr media
Let's first go back to the beginning of that same day.
Donald: "Zeev! Last day of the year! 364 days of defeat and misfortune! But who knows, maybe I'll get lucky today!"
Donald slipped on the skateboard. "Oops!"
Donald: "And maybe not! Again the same song as the whole year!"
Donald collapsed in the mess.
Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck: "What happens? Isn't it an earthquake?"
Huey Duck: "No, but something tells me that in a second there will be a real volcanic eruption!"
Donald to HDL: "I've had enough of your trash!"
Huey: "Sorry, Unca Donald! With a lot of homework, we don't have time to clean the house!"
Donald: "Ah, phooey! It's easy for you! You wouldn't even last a day working as a traveling salesman like me!"
Huey: "I bet by the end of the day, we'd sell out of everything you sell, whatever it is!"
Donald: "Prove it! Sell my goods before midnight or you will be cleaning the house every day!"
Louie Duck: "And you have to do all the homework in our math workbook or you will be doing our homework for the next month."
Donald: "Agreed!"
Tumblr media
And so!
Huey: "I can't believe Unca Donald works as a traveling salesman!"
Dewey: "Of all the meaningless jobs he's done, this one is the worst!"
Louie: "But a bet is a bet!"
Huey to the customer: "Good day! Do you want to buy doors?"
Customer: "What?! Can't you see I already have them!"
Grandma (old woman): "Can I see how they work?"
Huey: "Oh… of course!"
"As you can see, the door opens easily and does not creak!"
Grandma (old woman): "Nicely! Do you want to go through them?"
Huey: "Here is! What do you think?"
Grandma (old woman): "I'm not interested!"
Louie: "Don't lose hope! Sooner or later, we're going to run into someone who needs a door!"
Tumblr media
At the same time…
Donald: "Um…Pythagoras? Was that the elf from The Lord of the Rings? Ugh, I can't remember anything!"
"It might be cheating if I ask Gyro for help, but the most important thing is to teach the boys some smarts!"
Donald when he sees that Gyro is not there: "No luck again! I'll look around the garden! Maybe I'll find something useful there!"
"He's even messier than my nephews! I can't find anything without his help!"
Oh no!
"Is that someone asking for help? Radisha, the robo-assistant at your service!"
Donald to robot: "Do you know math? What is 912 times 72?"
Robot to Donald: "Bzzzztt! 87341!"
Donald: "Great! I'm sure Gyro won't mind me borrowing you for a few hours!"
Robot: "Radisha, the robo-assistant, at your service!"
Donald has no idea what kind of mechanism he has set in motion…
Tumblr media
Soon after…
Robot Radisha: "Eeeh!"
Donald to robot: "What is it? Don't tell me these tasks are too hard for you?"
Robot Radisha: "The robo-assistant just works! But Radisha has a dream to visit an amusement park!"
Donald: "Then we'll go to the amusement park, and then we'll do math!"
Robot Radisha: "Radisha is happy! Fun, fun!" "Fun, fun!"
Angry woman to Donald and the robot: "Take whatever reward you want, just promise not to come back here!"
Robot: "Fun, fun! Party, party!"
Donald to robot: "I hope you've had enough! Can we get to the tasks?"
Robot Radisha to Donald: "The robo-assistant just works! But Radisha has a dream to visit the zoo!"
Donald to robot: "Okay! Let's go to the zoo for a bit, and then get a book in hand!"
Tumblr media
At the same time…
Huey: "What is going on?!"
Policeman: "Open it! It's the police! We know you're there, thief!"
Huey: "They're chasing some fugitive thief!"
Policeman: "We have a police warrant!"
Right after…
Policeman: "So you're not a robber? And this isn't 47 Dark Street?"
Tenant of the house: "No, I'm not Robber, and this is not that address! I was taking a shower and I didn't hear you knocking!"
Policeman: "Sorry about the door!"
Tenant of the house: "What to do? It happens!"
Dewey: "Here's our chance, brothers!"
Huey: "Sorry, we saw what just happened to your door…"
Louie: "...and we sell doors!"
Tenant of the house: "There is no point in putting new ones! Whenever the Thief escapes from prison, the same thing happens! Only if you sell sliding doors?"
Dewey: "Uh, unfortunately, no!"
Huey: "If we can't sell doors to someone who just ran out of them, we better not even try!"
Tumblr media
Later…
Robot Radisha: "Fun, fun! Party, party!" Donald to himself: "A robo-assistant could use some help!"
Soon after…
Robot Radisha: "The robo-assistant just works! But Radisha has a dream to…"
Donald: "Enough with dreams! We've been to an amusement park, a zoo, a circus, a game, bowling, and flamenco classes! It's time for you to help me with the tasks!"
Robot Radisha: "Bzzzt! Calculation done!"
Donald: "Ouch! You finished the entire workbook in half a minute!"
"Shall I drop you off at Gyro now?"
Robot Radisha: "By no means! You showed Radisha how to have fun! From now on I will no longer be a robo-assistant, but a robo-entertainer!"
Donald: "What a day! Now I can go to Uncle Scrooge's New Year's party as the winner!"
And while Donald and the gang are having fun, Huey, Dewey and Louie are still suffering the same pains…
Rude customer: "NO!"
Louie: "It's ten to midnight and we still haven't sold a single door!"
Huey: "We can only hope for a miracle!"
Robot Radisha: "Fun, fun! Party, party!"
Tumblr media
At the same time…
Gyro Gearloose: "Ouch! I'm late to Scrooge's New Year's party!"
"Maybe I could…huh?"
"Oh no! It looks just like my confetti balloon inflator!"
"Looks like someone turned it on! If no one turns it off, my superelastic balloon will continue to grow and grow, until..."
"Poor me! If it bursts, the whole square will be covered in confetti!"
"According to my calculations, the balloon will burst in exactly ten seconds! The balloon has already inflated to the maximum!"
Tumblr media
Gyro: "Huh! In the last hour!"
Gyro to bird: "GO! Get out of there! Don't you dare!"
The bird punctures the balloon and boom!
Dewey: "What's up?"
Huey: "There must have been an explosion in the confetti factory!"
Tumblr media
Louie: "Mnnng! We just missed that!"
Dewey: "Watch out! One door is sliding!"
Robot Radisha happens to be at the door and is having fun.
Little girl: "That looks fun!"
Robot Radisha: "Fun, fun! Party, party!"
One customer: "I want to buy a door!" Second customer: "Give me two!"
Huey to his brothers: "We sold all the doors!"
Dewey: "But there's no way we'll get to the party before midnight!"
Louie: "Are you sure? Look!"
Louie to Gyro: "Gyro! What luck! Can we go to the party with you?"
Gyro: "Sure, guys! I'm just…this one…passing by! I have no idea where all this confetti came from?"
Tumblr media
It's time for the big countdown…
Daisy Duck, Grandma Duck, Gus Goose, Donald Duck, Gladstone Gander, Scrooge McDuck: "10!"
Scrooge thought to himself, "Whoah! In just a few seconds the hotel will be mine!"
Donald thought to himself, "The boys don't stand a chance anymore! I've won!"
Everyone: "9!"
Then Gyro and Donald's nephews enter.
Huey to Donald: "We sold all the doors!"
Donald: "Quack!"
Everyone: "8!...7!...6!..."
Donald to Gyro: "And I did all the tasks! So it's a draw!"
Everyone: "5!...4!..."
Gyro to Donald: "But neither solution is correct! As if my incompetent robo-assistant Radisha made them!"
HDL: "Victory is ours!"
Donald: "Stop! There's not enough money here!"
Dewey: "Oh no! We forgot about the sliding door!"
Everyone: "3!...2!...1!..."
Everyone: "Happy New Year!"
Grand Hotel Owner: "Let's sign!"
Scrooge: "Gladly!"
Tumblr media
Daisy to Scrooge: "Uncle Scrooge, stop! The wall crumbled like a New Year's cake!"
Scrooge when he sees ants in the wall: "A colony of starving ants is eating the hotel from the inside!"
Scrooge breaks the contract and says to Daisy, "Thank you, Daisy! You stopped me from making a terrible mistake!"
Donald to his nephews: "I promise to be more understanding for you! Your homework is not easy at all!"
Huey, Dewey and Louie to his uncle: "And the job of a traveling salesman isn't exactly cat's cough either!"
Everyone: "Happy New Year!"
Grandma Duck (Elvira Coot) to Gyro: "You never stand still, Gyro! What are you up to now?"
Gyro: "A vacuum cleaner that can vacuum up a huge amount of confetti! The matter is quite urgent!"
The end.
I wish everyone a happy New Year and happy holidays!
I hope you enjoyed this comic.

Current album obsession: The Book of Broken Glass By Sarah and the safeword
Something totally new and weird that I'm gonna try to do when i have feelings about albums I'm gonna break them down track by track and talk about them
Sarah and the Safe Word is a dark cabaret band from Atlanta Georgia fronted by Sarah Rose. they are currently my favorite band and I wanted to break down this album and talk about it so if what I have to say about it seems interesting please give The Book of Broken Glass a listen
Track one: A Wake, Violet Makes Her Wish The opener to our album setting the mood with a simple poem "Several years of sorrow without breathing Mourn the dead Lamps are out of midnight oil Lost lovers and lost friends Now, the jury's hung No kingdom come Sold bones to pay the rent Let us gather 'round the fire once more and sing Sing while light is left" Its simple and sets the mood as our main character violet attends a funeral and starts our story
Track two: Ruby Off The Rails Track two introduces us to Ruby Violets mother and and delves into a ritual used to summon Something that isn't fully explained delving into the occult and gothic themes of the album
Track Three: Old Lace Old lace leans heavy into the dark cabaret sound that the band has established in previous albums the song deals with feelings of ego death and the loss of identity.
Track Four: A Little Evil Never Hurt Anyone The Sluttiest song on this album its dancy its fun and its all about doing things you know you shouldn't. its meaning is in the title and the chorus "Just do it in anger Just do it for fun A little evil never hurt anyone"
Track Five: No One’s Home My interpretation of this song is that it delves into Sarah finding out more information about her father learning that he wasn't what he seems that he's something not human and so is she.
Track Six: But Tonight! We Dance! Ft. Dog Park Dissidents This song is fantastic and Dancy and features queer punk duo Dog Park Dissidents its also in my interpretation of the album when Violet starts to die
Track Seven: Too Dressed Up To Die THE STRINGS IN THIS SONG!! the violin work in the song is by far the best part its really all i can gush about as far as the story of the album goes violet is absolutely dying here
Track Eight: Soldiers Of Rock N’ Roll Ft. Chumbawamba No really it features Chumbawamba and it fucks it is an amazing song and starts pushing into a heavier sound before the next song does a full Genre switch. Story wise something is absolutely saving Violet here
Track Nine: All The Rage Ft. Jamee Cornelia Here we have a genre switch to a Nu Metal song and that's not me being discouraging its amazingly done you don't notice that's what happened till the rap breakdown hits but then it hits and its mind blowing
Track Ten: Broken Crowns, Forgotten Pageants Sarah Rose Flexes everything her voice can do here. this song really Transends influence in my mind it is Sarah rose and nothing else and it is beautiful.
Track Eleven: Sky On Fire Another beautiful song with fantastic work from the violins The line in this song that really stands out to me in relation to the story of the album is "But if I ever had a father Then I know his name was John" her grappling with her memory's of her father and finding out what he really was
Track Twelve: A Sleep: The Owl Makes His Offer We opened with a wake and close with a sleep this is the best song on the album bar none but for it to hit properly you have to listen to the rest of the album all i can say about it is that its possibly the best song I've ever heard and it ends with the same poem that we opened this album with.
Track Thirteen: X So this song requires some context Sarah Rose is a transgender woman and this song is Violet regretting never coming out to her father as trans and her transitioning "And all that I want is your chance to see tomorrow In a skin that I can live in Or a life that wasn't borrowed" the song is a beautiful way to end the album and that's the album give it a listen and feel free to rb with your thoughts and opinions

Taylor Swift & Fate
Mastermind (Midnights, 2022)
Once upon a time, the planets and the fates and all the stars aligned You and I ended up in the same room at the same time And the touch of a hand lit the fuse Of a chain reaction of countermoves To assess the equation of you Checkmate, I couldn't lose
What if I told you none of it was accidental And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me I laid the groundwork and then just like clockwork The dominoes cascaded in a line What if I told you I'm a mastermind? And now you're mine It was all by design 'Cause I'm a mastermind
in Mastermind, Taylor confesses that she doesn't actually believe in 'fate'. anything that she has previously credited to 'fate' was actually her own doing. none of it was accidental. she planned it all out from the beginning.
obviously, she's not god; she didn't literally plan every single thing that has ever happened to her. but i think it's pretty safe to say that she always has a plan and a pretty good idea of how it will work, especially as she's gotten older/smarter/more experienced.
all of her album releases, easter eggs (which she's said she sometimes plans out 3 years in advance), references, and i think most of her relationships since about the 1989 era have been very intentional. she has probably the best pr team in the world and is herself very intelligent and meticulous (and possibly neurodivergent, but that's a different post). if she's spotted by paparazzi, it's not an accident. there is no such thing as a 'candid' photo when you're taylor swift.
whether you think this song is about joe alwyn or karlie kloss or someone else (personally, i think it's at least partially about joe, but her songs are never about just 1 thing.), she is admitting that she basically picked this person out from the beginning to date. like a young lesbian picking out a boy to have a 'crush' on. (ok, that might be projecting a bit, but if you think joe's a beard, it does fit with the theory that joe is a beard.) she said 'i'm taylor fucking swift. i can have anyone i want, and i want that one.'
this song also confirms to me that the order of the song titles being released was not actually 'left up to fate' every one of those videos was completely intentional
2. long story short (evermore, 2020)
Fatefully I tried to pick my battles 'Til the battle picked me
no matter how much she plans, she can't control everything. but she can sure as hell try.
3. invisible string (folklore, 2020)
Time Curious time Gave me no compasses Gave me no signs Were there clues I didn't see? And isn't it just so pretty to think All along there was some Invisible string Tying you to me?
it's pretty to think there's some invisible string tying us together, right? there isn't, but it's pretty to think that there is. it's pretty to think i'm not the mastermind.
4. State of Grace (Red, 2012)/State of Grace (Taylor's Version) (Red (Taylor's Version), 2021)
This is a state of grace This is the worthwhile fight Love is a ruthless game Unless you play it good and right These are the hands of fate You're my Achilles heel This is the golden age of something good and right and real
5. Starlight (Red, 2012)/Starlight (Taylor's Version) (Red (Taylor's Version), 2021)
He said, "Look at you, worrying too much about things you can't change You'll spend your whole life singing the blues if you keep thinking that way"
you know, i really thought there was going to be more examples of lyrics talking about fate. (especially with how often she talked about fate in the promo leading up to midnights) please let me know if i missed anything. i think the only real connection is probably between mastermind and invisible string, but what do i know?

What keeps you awake at night?
Dear Reader,
We're down to 38 days until Christmas! But before getting bejeweled with all these shining, shimmering, and splendid things, let's talk about your labyrinth thoughts or what keeps you awake at midnight rain?
Hello there! Welcome to a November Mayhem with me which I will be talking about the things that keep me awake at midnight aside from being an architecture student procrastinating her plates. If you're a Swifties, I know you catch that clues.
On the last 21st of October 2022, our godmother T.S. released her 10th studio album titled Midnights, all about different stories about what she feels at midnight, and for the record, it's been on my Spotify repeat from the day it has been out.
Tumblr media
Since you're already here, I will be sharing the top 5 songs from the Midnights album that resonate with my Architecture journey.
1. ANTI-HERO
youtube
Tumblr media
The first one on the list is Anti-Hero. The legendary lyrics from this track are the line It's me, Hi! I'm the problem it's me. We can all relate especially me ever since I've been in architecture school. Being an architecture student is tough. Honestly, in all the battles that I've encountered the battle within my inner self is the most destructive. It keeps me awake at night and it's either I am having a breakthrough in my thoughts or just me breaking down because I don't know what to do exactly. Especially being in my thesis year. I can say that aside from the topic of my thesis, I am the most of a problem. It's a continuous battle between me versus me. It's exhausting rooting for ourselves. But, knowing the fact that I am the drawback, maybe the only thing that can also solve it is myself.
2. SNOW ON THE BEACH (FEAT. LANA DEL REY)
The second song that I will be featuring is Snow on the Beach (ft. Lana Del Rey) which is on the 4th track of the album. According to Taylor Swift, the song is all about falling with someone as they fall in love with you at the same time. "sort of in this sort of cataclysmic, fated moment where you realize someone feels exactly the same way that you feel," she said,  "Kind of like it would be if you were to see snow falling on a beach." Isn't lovely? I hope Architecture is the same for me. Kidding aside, it's nice to have someone that you can lean on after a dreadful day caused by academic stress. Someone to talk to outside architecture, someone to talk about the simplest thing or about how their day went, someone will accompany you every midnight when you're doing your plates or just be there with you willing to listen to whatever you just have to say. Just like snow on the beach, it's weird but fucking beautiful.
3. LAVENDER HAZE
The third song is from the first track of the album. It is one of the best for me. Taylor Swift said that Lavender Haze was used in the 50s when you describe that you're in love. You're in the Lavender Haze. But even though Taylor wrote it with the interpretation of being in love. I relate it to living the dream I've been dreaming about. In the lyrics, it said, "I feel a lavender haze creeping up on me, Surreal, I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say" and it hit me, sometimes dreaming awake keeps us awake at midnight, sometimes we don't realize that the place exactly where we are, are the ones we've been dreaming for the longest time and it masks the thought when we're struggling. I know that architecture has been difficult but imagining that all these things will be worth it made me want to stay in the Lavender Haze and don't think about the people who doubted me.
4. BEJEWELED
youtube
Just like Taylor Swift, fantasizing about revenge is one of the reasons why she's awake at midnight, for me the best revenge is the relief of getting away from the heartbreak that I experienced when I am in college. Being the best version of yourself is liberating although I can say that I'm still not into the best version of myself but being polished up really nice could go a long way. Realizing that even the things that made us alive the most then, could shatter us into a million pieces when they left. To tell you honestly, it hurts me but I know there's a reason behind all of it. Focusing on myself is the best way that I cope with that situation. Now, I am happy to say that it taught me some lessons even though I miss the memories, what I really miss the most is being bejeweled by the most important things in my life and that will make the whole place shimmer!
5. PARIS
Where down to the last song, and that song is Paris! A bonus track from the album. Who's architecture student doesn't want to go and dream about Paris? Maybe not all but I am one of those people that like to travel and someday go to one of the most historic places that contribute to the history of Architecture which is Paris! Even though Taylor wrote it with the means of being in Paris with someone she loves. For me, I like to imagine myself even if I am alone, in Paris. Walking and observing the beauty of it. Traveling is one of the things that fascinates me. I love the thought of going around the world and discovering the most random things. Feeling every moment of being alive chasing dreams, wasting time, and having a good time. Falling in love in Paris. Just falling in love with the universe.
Hello there! Thank you for staying with me this midnight! I'm thankful that you joined me until the very last song.
Manifesting all the good things for you and I hope that not just sad things that always keep you awake at night.
THAT'S ALL FOR OUR NOVEMBER MAYHEM
Again, hello. This thing is one of my activities at school since I want you to read it too, I tweak it a little and decided to post it here. Enjoy!

[music/artist review] "Into Sands", written and performed by Ley Soul
I can't lie: I've listened to this song almost nonstop today.
As the digital clock struck midnight, Ley Soul's triumphant return to the top of my monthly Spotify summaries was all but confirmed with the release of her newest single, "Into Sands". I'd briefly met Ley Soul in person over the summer of '24, in [redacted], [redacted]. We caught up about the last year of life experience and personal growth in a whirlwind of a conversation that let me see her in a different light. You see, I'd known her before the runaway social media success and trips to LA where she'd write songs and produce music; I'd sat in the same classrooms as she had.
I can't speak to any more of her musical heritage and upbringing beyond what she explicitly told me, but what I can confirm is that her musicality stands upon equally immovable pillars of talent and diligence. Like the satiated customer in a Michelin-star restaurant, I realize my comments exist in context far larger than my purview, atop considerable commercial acclaim and a TikTok press conference of worship paired with what seems at times seemingly non-existent shame. Ley Soul has captivated a niche--something I've only grown to appreciate more--and expanded on her basis set of soundscape vectors. In that conversation from summer '24, she'd mentioned experimenting with non-conformity to equal temperament in response to my praise for "Fortune Eyes", which I had then dubbed my favorite work of hers thus far. While my over-intellectualizationisms attempted to frame this as atonality or microtonality, she smiled as she reassured me that the feelings being evoked mattered more. For her, music, it seemed, had transcended the framework of proficiency and culminated to an expression of self. If such a trajectory were given a blanket title, one might call it artistry.
That's not to diminish the growth in technical mastery demonstrated in this 4-minute, "heavenly", "trippy asl", "soty" (song of the year). Ley Soul's breakout single, "Intergalactic Janet", had never resonated with me due to its simplicity and derivative nature (not to deride taking inspiration, but even Ley Soul herself admits her 19M stream single could be confused for the likes of Erykah Badu). I was still very happy to hear that a friend of mine had found some level of commercial success, but frankly, I couldn't pretend I didn't feel a similar sense of disdain for the "common folk" who created financial incentives in the mediocre that others had expressed with the success of someone like... I don't know, Ed Sheeran? Katy Perry? I don't know who the boomers point to as ruining music nowadays.
My fears were Thanos-snapped out of existence with "Fortune Eyes". Genre staples (such as compressed bass with boosted mids and complex percussion arrangements) aside, Ley Soul's brazen experimentation instantly reminded me why I was drawn to her as a person. She'll prove to you she knows all the rules, and alternate between sharp jabs that demonstrate the comprehensive nature of her prowess and inevitable combinations that demand and reward relistening. As for the last minute of the song, in terms of my analysis, exemplified that she had a firm grasp on what sound she wanted, and was pretty darn close to achieving it. Attempt to relive my surprise when she offhandedly mentioned that she wasn't super satisfied with the song's ending. This isn't even her final form.
"Into Sands" manages to do everything "Fortune Eyes" did, but better, somehow. Ley Soul's vocal agility and tone take center stage again, with everything from the ostinato that plays over the intro, choruses, to the breathy harmony lines, to a brilliantly orchestrated belt mix owing their vibes to singular, phenomenal performances. (For nerds: her controlled usage of vibrato in the multiple lines and harmonies from 2:34 to 3:02 does things to a certain corner in your chest.) While Ley Soul's lyricism has never been dense, her preferred level of verbosity highlights her control of tone (especially vowel placement!!) and her inhuman riffage. Her presentation, while aided by the forward and permeating production magic of Elijah Hill and Matt Kahane, oozes with the confidence that comes with the complete encapsulation of one's objective.
Listening to this song consecutively with Ley Soul's other singles (some released, some only on YouTube), it's not difficult to consider this her most technically proficient, cohesively polished, and (at least personally) vibe-a-licious single thus far. I do hope to retract this statement, because in case you weren't aware, Ley Soul has two more pre-save links live right now.

Hi! I liked Schmicago more cuz it also had a lot of my fav musicals referenced and I was more familiar with it like Sweeney Todd, Chicago, Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar and Pippin too. I also think the cast is good and had a lot of theater actors unlike most things and the songs all fit or made sense like a musical. I'm sad it got cancelled! I have not been keeping up with musicals as much but did see the casting of the other Gatsby I think and was wondering what you thought. Other than that, I've only seen snippets from new musicals so I have no idea, including the Jeremy one. Maybe I will go back into it at some point. I feel the same way about reading honestly and I hope to start again soon. I've just been busy for the last few months lol. Unfortunately I don't really have recommendations for anything cuz I've been focusing on Taylor instead.
So I was talking about the twenty one pilots concert haha but I did think about getting tickets to his tour cuz seeing Maisie would be a plus. I was surprised she was an opener for him. I really enjoyed the album which has a very 80s sound. I really enjoyed his song Found Heaven..its one of my favorite songs of the year so far!
I've only listened to the whole album with the anthology part like 3 times so far but my first impressions were that I really liked it! Like in the first few songs I was like whoa this isn't what I expected but then I also didn't know what to expect really. I had a hard time keeping up with lyrics and felt the first few songs felt like a lot for some reason. I also think my first impressions have changed a little already the more I listen to it and cuz I couldn't remember all the songs at that point. I was very surprised about the double album! There's always theories about a double album and it didn't make sense cuz we already knew about the bonus tracks. I hadn't even started the album at that point lol and couldn't play it more than once cuz it got late. But my favorites from the first 16 are the title track, although my prediction about it was off, Who's afraid of little old me, Guilty as Sin, and Fresh out the Slammer, which I thought would be one of my least favorites, but I love the way it sounds, and Down Bad. I also like I can do it with a broken heart and Fortnight a lot more cuz of the video. The anthology I expected it to be more like Folklore and it was in sound with somewhat more abstract lyrics. However I also thought it might be telling connected stories like Folklore with all the names which threw me off but I get it now. I was way off with that. My favorites on are I Hate it Here, How Did it End, The Prophecy and the Black Dog. So I predicted the Black Dog was gonna be one of my favorites, so I guess I was kinda right, except it wasn't what I thought it would be..like I don't think it was about depression the way I thought it would be. I also predicted there was something different to the bonus tracks having the that felt so different than other tracks and it was actually part of a different album! The Manuscript is one that I thought I would like but I had a really hard time understanding the song at first so I was disappointed. It's one that I like the message of the song more than the actual song. I made the mistake of reading other people's opinions and analysis which sometimes helps, like with that song, but sometimes it doesn't and I would want my own interpretations first. I also didn't have a lot of stand out absolute favorite songs on either part but I'm still getting used to it. It was more that I liked it all but some songs blended together too. I'm still not sure how the albums go together and I think it would be cool to hear her talk about how it all fits together. However my sister said she loved the second part a lot more and it had a lot of good lyrics. The album also didn't feel like any of her other albums to me either but I think I liked it more than I liked Midnights when I first heard that but also might have to grow on me too. I guess it's like rep and Folklore in a way but different than I thought it would be. It's a really honest album and she also plays more into a character on some songs. But Daddy I love him is an example and was also one that stuck out to me cuz it was kinda different than anything else on the album but I was so confused at first. I will keep you updated if I have new favorites or I notice other lyrics
Also I had no idea you were that sick and had Covid! I hope you recover and get plenty of rest cuz that sounds so awful! I hope the musicals are helping and you're enjoying the album. I'm pretty sure you're familiar with all of my favorite musicals already like Les Mis, Sweeney Todd, Wicked, Newsies, and West Side Story, but I will recommend Rent again which Aaron Tveit has sang songs from lol. I'm sorry if I forgot anything but I hope you feel better and have a good week!
hello!! happy friday 🤍 i am starting to feel a lot better (tested negative for covid yesterday, but still coughing a bit — it'll take me a while to get over it as it takes me a while to get over anything with my victorian child immune system/asthma/etc)! are you doing anything fun this weekend?
i am a terrible theatre person, and admittedly just watched sweeney todd yesterday. i watched the movie a few summers ago, but didn't really care for it/retain much, and so i finally sat down and watched a bootleg of it last night! very fun to see in hindsight, the schmicago references (although i did pick up on a fair amount of them). wondering if i should watch cabaret too — and then backtrack and watch brigadoon and then do a schmicadoon / schmicago rewatch to see how many more references i can spot! i have also never seen jesus christ superstar, or hair. oops? i wonder what season 3 could've been; i was talking to one of my best friends about it and i was like oh les schmiserables or into the schwoods would've been cute!
i'm SO excited for art gatsby; i was reading the interview with ben levi ross about how they've intentionally made nick gay, and i'm really really intrigued by it. and just everything about it. the casting, the creative team. i cannot wait to hear about it. i think i'm going to do a gatsby reread soon — i've been talking about doing it for ages, and all of this gatsby news has me itching to reread! i was reading the gatsby reviews last night and well... i am not surprised by them!
ooh! i'm glad you got tickets to 21p! my bad for misreading 🤍 i still haven't listened to conan, but i will soon!! i need to focus on learning the music for the lizzy mcalpine, since her concert is in like two weeks and i ... have only listened to the album once! oops!
did you see that she's rehearsing a TTPD set? i'm shocked, but also shouldn't be. i wonder if she'll cut songs out, what she'll add — do you have any predictions? i'm thinking i can do it with a broken heart, but that might be too meta for the eras tour? but also i think but daddy i love him, guilty as sin, fortnight, could be fun on stage. and who's afraid of little old me — or clara bow? but maybe that's too similar thematically to some of the other songs she has right now. hmm! but also all this and no debut set :(((((((
i have listened to aaron tveit sing one song glory (on his album) and i love his cover! i need to sit down and watch rent one of these days, but did laugh at you pointing out that aaron has been in rent because if something will get me to do anything ... it is that man. unfortunately. and i have been meaning to rewatch newsies (my beloved) 🤍 i think i am going to rewatch les mis soonnnnn and then go from there!

NGS2P2 — struggling to shut up
it's time for the interview. honestly, jay has half a mind to keep yapping and yapping until he talks the interviewer's ear off. it feels like a good form of revenge, almost. but he should probably answer the questions properly, at the very least. that doesn't mean he won't keep speaking though, his brain still runs several miles per hour and he doesn't have the ability to halt it at this time. or ever, really.
he can only hope the interviewer knows what they're up against ( or not, because that would make good tv too ).
you didn't seem very happy with your current placement. is there a reason why?
jay scoffs—what a ridiculous question. what is he supposed to say to that? obviously? no shit, captain obvious? it's like they're trying to get jay heated. "yeah, i'm not. but that's not surprising, is it? it's not a very good ranking, all things considered. i would hope i did better, but i guess i didn't. whatever, bygones are bygones. all i can do now is make sure i do better." he lets out a laugh, pointed and sharp. "and what do you know? that's the title of the song we performed."
do you think you did better with this performance then?
"i'd like to think i did, but who knows? i'm not the judge." he doesn't even mean to sound cruel or accusatory, it's just how he speaks. even the camera pointing at him isn't enough to deter him from talking without a filter. but hey, at least he isn't cursing. a win is a win. "i put my all into it, that's what i can say. i danced, i sang, i rapped. it's not easy, anyone here can tell you. but i wanted to make sure people hear; that i'm not just yelling."
how was preparation for the performance?
jay wants to ask a question of his own: what's the point in asking that? realistically, he's aware that these are standard questions to ask those who are contestants in an idol survival show, but he believes they're unnecessary. most of them would have the same answer. won't people get bored? or do they just cut out the boring answers? "kinda funny. saw someone fell though, that wasn't very funny." he actually makes an effort to not sound sarcastic, for once. "it was hard, days and nights go by in a blur. suddenly it's already midnight and i'm still working on the moves. it'll be worth it in the long run, though."
how does it compare to your performance during your audition?
"you mean my proper performance, or the one where i was balancing things on my fingers? i swear, people will only remember me for that now." jay decides to answer the comparison with the former option. "it's not exactly my type of song, but i won't whine about stepping out of my comfort zone. it was fun, i had a blast. is it that surprising if i preferred to perform with a song of my own choice though? i think the other contestants would agree."
what did you find challenging during training?
"a bunch of things." jay doesn't know how to reply, so he just chooses to be annoyingly vague. "it's a pretty short time to practice, not that it's a bad thing. the time constraint makes it feel all the more real. if you're really in it for the right reasons, you'd stay behind and work till your can feel your bones ache." and that's a sentiment he kept throughout the late nights he stayed behind.
