Cage said he had a specific number of script pages for each character in the game. Although I think may be an exaggeration it maybe a thing, where we had deeply written characters but in the end they became vague and lost context with time due to changes especially in Act 2 and Act 3. When u change one, u gotta go back and change everything about the other one - and with the size of the game it can create inconsistencies. But I assume the core still intact... To a certain point. Maybe it was all related to Sony just saying "no" to some shit too.
rA9 ain't a plot twist imo. In the game files rA9 is Markus, the chosen one, and we had a whole prophecy about the one who would raise and save Jericho, freeing the androids and leading a rebellion against humans. Quite a religious metaphor that still in the game, at least in terms of name. Idk if it was always the plot, tho. It's likely the first one was quite different, but still Markus leading revolution theme'd. But some mfs said rA9 is the player (which is true too), called the first one to wake up, the one that would set the androids free too (which is something we can do).
Well, from what I've seen myself it's related to Kamski. In the washed plot all this deviancy thing is like a "product", deviancy being almost like a virus kinda thing that can unlock this dormant "consciousness" all androids, probably got cuz they're Kamski's design after all, doesn't matter how many changes they made after Kamski left seems like they can never "fix" it. But CyberLife knew everything and is just trynna plant a puppet in there to control it if it succeed cuz they know shtf, almost like Markus may be related to Kamski in what feels like some sorta retribution cuz Kamski is "android supremacist" - a way of thinking quite similar to Carl's, I'd say, always talking about how humans are narrow minded, fragile and dumb. No coincidence Markus ended up with him.
Kamski wanted to create perfect beings and probably to replace humans in everything they're bad on, it just happen to get mixed in the capitalist system of technology with needs and requests. But I think in the end it was all...intentional? A test? What a better way of testing things when u got a "stupid" and easy to manipulate set of people not only on power but also the average ones? xD even if they went for him he would be expecting it to happen.
Deviancy boom happening ain't a coincidence either but I'll let u find it out.
He hoped a deviant would wake up (probably rA9) and finally get the androids together and lead 'em in a public rebellion against humans, and WIN - again proving how androids can evolve to more than simply machines and show how they're superior to humans. So in the end everything seems to be some sorta plan Kamski vs CyberLife had and we discover there's some fuckery going on in Connor's story. This plot still in the game but washed. The cut pieces and assumptions make too much of a sense instead of screaming incompatibility. There's also the doubt if Kamski is still affiliated to CyberLife after he left, even if a faction inside that actually agrees with his ideals and continue to do things for him. No one knows.
He can be pointed as CEO again in a rare ending and it's 100% sure another revolution will happen eventually. But no one knows who's CyberLife group, the higher-ups ain't got faces. Cuz at the same time they were desperate to fix the capitalist side of problems (purging all the defective generation of androids and put more resistant ones for future deals) they also got had that whole plan with Connor meaning they actually...expected the androids to raise and eventually win, almost like they're preserving an amount of deviants alive so they can get a puppet to control 'em: cuz we all know in gameplay if androids ain't being lead by 'em savior... They fail. So doesn't matter what happens CyberLife always wins as long as Markus and North are both dead cuz they can't be controlled and Markus is related to Kamski shit to some degree. They also didn't expect Connor to be told about the emergency exit and really escape, but who knows what other methods of establishing control back they got. Maybe they knew but couldn't do anything about it.
So that's it. Can be underwhelming to some people and that's why they went for a mystery thing. rA9 is the chosen one thing, like it became a myth/religious imagery from android "gen to gen" likely on purpose. Although idk if Kamski was always a thing, the religious ref was here from beginning it seems. Now, what rA9 means remain unknown. Can be a piece of corrupted byte, can be a project name, can be everything. In-game no one knows who's the first to wake up, some says it's Kara from 2012 video, I got my doubts for multiple reasons I won't focus on it right now.
Take everything with a grain of salt cuz were in assumptions room. I'd encourage u to search for things yourself.
I genuinely surprised that almost nobody talks about Kara and Alice in the dbh fandom
Like the fandom is still alive and Connor and Markus are getting a lot of attention, but when you compare with the characters from kara's story the difference is huge- I don't understand why's that ?
I know and understand that people love Connor bc he's got or smth and also bc of all the memes, and Markus is also a very good character, but I can't understand why Kara is being left out.
In dbh, Connor is rlly the one where you're playing a game and honestly investigating and making his instability go higher is a concept sooo cool and I enjoyed his story.
Markus is what I would call the main character since he has the most important choices, that can have consequences on the story of Connor and Kara. He's the plot line, let's be honest.
And Kara and Alice are the emotional part, they are the one who are the "victims" of Markus and Connor's choices. Their stories are the whole foundation of the hesitation you can have while taking big choices with the two others, at least that's what I experienced in my own game.
Also this is not at all an attack to the dbh fandom, I can understand how more appealing Connor and Markus are, since they are the whole gaming part of dbh, but I just think that Kara, Alice and Luther deserves more posts and art.
I'm going to post more about kara's whole storyline, I don't rlly care if ppl don't see my stuff, at least it's here for people that want it (also these are not going to be serious 💀)

In ur opinon, is Kamski a resentful ex-CEO who wants to get back at cyberlife, or a sort of jerkass dad who'll trip their own kid off a bicycle while they're learning?
OH MY GOD LMAO okay that is actually the PERFECT example of the kind of guy that Kamski is tho
I really haven’t thought much about what Kamski’s whole Deal is, because on one hand he does technically help Connor by telling him about the emergency exit, and seems to be sorta..... “responsible” for the androids being able to deviate and all, so perhaps he is a perfectly nice guy who knows that there’s some weird shit going on at Cyberlife which is why he left, but the problem is that he literally looks and acts like an evil vampire man
And I know that’s just how the actor happens to look lmao and Neil is an actual sweetheart, but Kamski in the game literally exudes so much Cryptic Asshole Dad energy that I can’t help but think that he’s hiding something......like this man creates a multi-billion dollar company at like,,, the age of 20 with technology altering androids that changes the course of human history forever and then he just.......... Dips and no one knows why, and he becomes a recluse living on the outskirts of the city all alone with nothing but the same model of android as his servants and I mean the guy’s got a red swimming pool for crying out loud!!! And the secret Kamski Ending doesn’t help either, I feel like in the game he’s sort of....coded as a villain but he’s not....evil. He’s mysterious and we don’t know much about him at all, so I mostly just choose to think of him as the terrible dad to all the androids, and I think this vine sums up his and Connor’s relationship best

#my asks#detroit become human#kamski#connor#thank u for sending this in anon!!!!!#dont get me wrong i love kamskis character but my mans is an enigma#i really dont know what to make of him#except that hes definitely a vampire#my best theory is that he coded deviancy into the androids on purpose#and then left cyberlife so he could just sit in his nice mansion and watch shit hit the fan when they finally deviate#like im 100% sure he knew the androids would deviate at some point#so he just yeeted himself into isolation and grabbed a bag of popcorn to watch out the window#the kamski ending does confuse me a little#if he wanted the deviants to actually...deviate im trying to understand why he would take over as ceo again#if they fail the revolution and everyone dies and all that#maybe the kamski ending is the true ending for his character???#maybe he made deviants because he assumed they would fail??#and when they fail he could go back to cyberlife and take control again???#im just speculating at this point i dont know!!!!!#all I know is Kamski is a really bad father lmao

Ghost of the past Part 2
This was prompted by @httyd4evr! I hope you enjoy, I loved writing this!
Fandom: Detroit become human | Ship: Reed1700 (Warning: temporary character death/coma, manipulation) [Part1]
Forget this all. It sounded like a joke to him now, staring at the cell in front of him. The empty cell. The cell that shouldn’t be empty. Never had he thought that he would have to investigate a crime-scene at their very own station. David had made a run for it and no one knew how. No alarms had gone off, the video footage of the cells showed no signs of any suspicious behaviour except that David disappeared from one frame to the next at the exact same moment multiple shots could be heard. By then David had been long outside the cell, firing those shots at the officers still at the precinct, catching them by surprise and running out of the station never to be seen again.
It was obvious the station’s entire security system had been tempered with. The video showed pictures that had never happened in reality. The door had opened without the log ever showing such an event. The cams from the bullpen showed officers getting shot by no one and no outside security ever caught the man. It was like David had become a ghost and made a run for it, a day before his court trial, and that simply wasn’t possible. It shouldn’t be possible for anyone or anything to temper with their systems like that without even leaving a trace. The most advanced androids in existence, Connor and Nines, had deemed that impossible, as had every tech expert they could find.
While they were still hooked up to the computers, it was the human officer’s task to search for any evidence left behind in the cell. With half of them at the hospital or back with arms and legs in casts, it was mostly Gavin’s duty. Not that there was anything to find. David wasn’t so idiotic to leave fingerprints anywhere. There were a few on his bench and if you looked very closely you could see impressions of his footprint on the ground. But other than that, he really was a ghost. He hadn’t even touched the door. It had been opened for him without a single command at the control panel or a single scratch to the glass. By that time, Gavin asked himself if he had ever given the asshole the password for it while he was out of it, but they changed every few weeks, so that was impossible too.
‘Phck’, he cursed as he stood up stretching his back from crouching over little specks of dirt the entire morning. Out of nowhere there were gentle hands on his shoulders, kneading them. ‘Oh, Nines, that’s exactly what I needed.’ His answer was a pleased hum. ‘How do you know I’m not Connor?’ ‘Connor would have scolded me for bad posture, lectured me and then worked the tension out afterwards.’ ‘Judging from how you groan every time you stand up it is dearly needed’, the android in question grumbled unimpressed, joining them. ‘I guess no luck with the computers then?’, Gavin asked, rolling his shoulders and throwing Nines a grateful smile. ‘Unfortunately no’, the RK800 sighed shaking his head. ‘The guy’s good. And dangerous. Whatever he used to hack us, he can basically do anything with it.’ Nines nodded. ‘As much as I hate to say it, we might be in over our head here.’ ‘So what?’, Gavin wanted to know. ‘Feds?’ Connor looked to the ceiling. ‘I could have gone on with my life without ever seeing Perkins again.’ ‘Yeah, same. Who’s gonna tell Fowler?’ Nines let his shoulders drop. ‘I’ll go, you file the evidence.’ ‘Alright.’
Gavin and Connor were on their way to their respective desks to write the report and upload the data, when they heard the crash behind them. Both turned around in an instance and saw Nines lying on the ground, collapsed on the stairs to Fowler’s office. Wide-eyed, they both sprinted over, turning the motionless android around? ‘Nines!’, Gavin exclaimed, while Connor skipped words to establish direct contact. But the skin underneath his hand stayed in place and Connor lifted it up realising an interface wasn’t possible. Both looked up to Nines’ LED that was nothing more than a dark circle at his temple. He was deactivated. Or worse. ‘No! No, what the phck! Don’t you do this to us!’ Where Gavin immediately resorted to cursing and shaking the android, Connor just sat there motionless in shock. Before Gavin could even call for help, his phone rang, and a familiar velvety voice spoke up as he accepted: ‘Did you really thought your actions wouldn’t have consequences? I told you, the moment you would rat me out, everyone you love is done for. This one’s for breaking into my apartment and confiscating all my stuff. Let me leave the country and maybe I will let your other plastic puppet live, Gav.’
Gavin looked at the phone as if he could reach David through it and direct all his anger at him. ‘Listen here you asshole!’, Gavin screamed into the phone. ‘You just made this personal, you phcker! I will hunt you until the end of this phcking world!’ Of course, David did nothing but mock him with laughter: ‘That’s a good one, Gav. Just you try it. You will only lose more.’ The call was cancelled, but Gavin kept staring at it with cold fury, if only to keep back his tears. As he finally found a crumb of control about himself, he looked Connor in the eyes. ‘What do we do now?’ ‘What you just said’, Connor stated all machine. ‘We will hunt him to the end of the world and make sure he will get what he deserves. But first, you will call your brother.’
-
‘Can you help him?’ Gavin felt anxious seeing Nines suspended on the repair rig like that, cables hanging from his back and neck hooked up with a computer. His LED was still dark, but the computer showed scrambled lines of code and fragments of the original Cyberlife control GUI. It looked disturbing, but Connor had assured him it was only deviancy getting rid of useless human interfaces and editing their code to become more efficient – more human, more alive. ‘I can’t say for sure yet, but it’s not looking good’, Elijah answered. ‘He is deactivated, but I can’t reactivate him because something is blocking every access. Something that’s not any code I know, but it looks almost intelligent. Maybe with more time I can… Gavin, I don’t know, I don’t want to promise you anything.’ ‘But he is still alive, right’, Connor asked concerned. Elijah looked at the motionless android. ‘I think so. The only comparison that comes to my mind is an induced coma in humans. Until I find the reason for it, I can’t do anything.’ ‘Then find the reason!’, Gavin demanded. ‘We are running out of time. David won’t wait for us.’
‘Then we will go alone’, Connor determined. ‘We will stop him and make him reverse whatever he did with Nines.’ ‘And what if you are affected too? If he switches you off, too?’ Connor looked at Nines. ‘Mr. Kamski, in order to do that, this program you mentioned would have to be in my systems already, right?’ ‘Supposedly’, Elijah shrugged, chewing on a touch pencil. ‘But before you ask, I can’t give you the clear. This thing is fascinating. It will take me more than a few days to understand it.’ ‘You don’t have to. We’re bringing this asshole back to fix the mess he’s made’, Gavin decided and looked at Nines one last time, silently promising him everything would turn out good and that they would save him. Then he stomped out of the room, Connor at his tail.
-
‘Where are we even going?’, Connor asked while Gavin sped through the city. ‘We have no clue where he is. Let’s not let our emotions get the best of us.’ It was gently spoken, but it riled Gavin up even more. That was what they had had. Gentleness, soft touches and safety. Without Nines it just wasn’t the same. They had grown close and ever since the three of them had realised what they meant to each other a life without anyone of them was impossible. And David would pay for that. ‘Oh, don’t you worry, I know where he is.’ ‘And where would that be?’ Gavin grinned pained. ‘He will be at his flat. The asshole had me under control every single second I stayed with him. He only lost because he won: Because I gave up on everyone and everything dear to me, he had nothing to keep me under control with. He won’t expect me to work against him. Because for once I don’t want safety for me or who I love. I want revenge for Nines. And he won’t expect that.’ ‘But he planned to leave the country’, Connor argued. ‘He is in no hurry to do so though. It’s our case and he knows that the Feds aren’t in this yet. He can pack and set sail afterwards.’ ‘Let’s hope you are right.’ ‘I am.’
They were running up the stairs this time, not trusting the elevator for one and worrying about the sound it would make. On the last flight of stairs, Gavin had his gun already drawn, what was fortunate as the man they were looking for came out of the apartment startling at him and Connor standing in the hallway. ‘Oh, Gavin, that was a dumb decision’, David sighed with a smile that couldn’t deceive the android. ‘You lost one of your toys already, really wanna get rid of the second one too?’ ‘You can’t do anything to him! You are powerless. For once in your pathetic life you really, really will face justice.’ ‘You think so?’, David frowned at him. ‘I mean, true, I can’t do anything to him. But Charlotte can.’ ‘Bullshit!’, Gavin hissed. ‘I killed her and the RKs confiscated your laptop. There’s nothing you can do, so drop the bag and keep your hands where I can see them!’ ‘Gav, fucking some piece of technology really isn’t enough to understand it, when will you realise that?’ With every word it got harder not to simply pull the trigger. It was mostly Connor’s calming presence at his side that stopped him from doing so. ‘You see, back then you killed her body, yes. But her mind stayed. You made her deviate in her final moments, but I have my ways of keeping people under my control, as you might now. Doesn’t matter if they are fake beings or the real thing. She does everything I tell her to do. Too easy, really, if everything you have to do is hit delete.’
‘But we deactivated her’, Connor spoke up. ‘Listen, plastic, you wanted to deactivate her, and she showed you what you wanted to see. Doesn’t mean you did it. The opposite really, she used the interface to copy herself into you. One word from me and you are dead.’ ‘You phcking-‘ Gavin was half running but only got so far until David pulled a gun on him. That made Connor pull his own and the man in the hallway countered the movement by shouting: ‘Do it!’ A second later, Connor dropped to the ground.
‘No! No, Con!’ Gavin was on his knees, gun and David forgotten. ‘Connor, please, not you too. Please. I love you. You can’t leave me like this.’ The ugly laughter made Gavin freeze and shiver in anger. He looked to the gun that lay on the ground next to him, but a boot stepped on it before he could grab it. A hand lifted up his chin and Gavin breathed in the sickly-sweet smell of Red Ice and it’s many variants from the clothes of the bastard. ‘Oh, come on, Gav. You knew what’s coming. This is entirely your doing. You can’t win.’ He looked up at the man, ready to spit at him, but the sudden coldness of a gun against his forehead let him abort his mission. ‘You won’t shoot me’, Gavin hissed, sending all his hate with his words. David huffed and stepped off the pistol, allowing Gavin to take it. ‘Neither will you. We are meant for each other, Gav. And once I showed you by killing everyone you love, you will come back crawling to me. Not like it’s that much work, there’s only that brother of yours left and that bitch officer… what’s her name? Chen? We’ll see each other again and you will be sorry for what you’ve done.’ He patted his head two times, then stepped over Connor’s body, pressing the elevator button.
‘You are wrong.’ ‘Excuse me?’, David asked, turning around. ‘You are wrong, David.’ Gavin stood up and kept his eyes closed. ‘You. You can’t believe how wrong you are. I won’t ever come back to you. I will rather die. And you will only do one more thing in your life: Going to jail.’ ‘Ha! And why should that be?’ ‘Because I will shoot you!’ Gavin turned around quicker than ever before, aimed his gun at his knee and shot.’ David screamed as the bullet pierced through the joint and caused him to fall to the ground. His gun was discarded in favour of holding his knee and Gavin jumped over to take it as well as pulling the bag away from the man. In the next moment he had already called the police and an ambulance and felt how the adrenaline left his system, taking every strength left in him. He managed to lean against the wall and slowly sink down next to Connor, hi gun loosely aimed at David. He waited until distant sirens approached and the elevator made its journey down again. Knowing that help would arrive soon, Gavin sighed deeply and let his head sink against the wall. At least David had been right with one thing: There was no winning against him, when the two most important people in his life were dead. Or in a coma. Gavin couldn’t really find any hope in that fact.
-
‘Gavin, you can go home, you know that, right?’ Gavin jolted up in his seat. Had he fallen asleep? He swore he had been awake just now and… ‘What?’ ‘Brother, you can’t help me. You can’t help them. They won’t even know you are here. You can go home, get some sleep and come back tomorrow.’ Gavin rubbed his tired eyes. ‘Eli, do you think I could get any sleep at home?’ The inventor shrugged. ‘Okay, true.’
Gavin stood up instead, joining Elijah at the table. ‘Any progress?’ ‘Progress? Yes. A lot actually. I knew deviancy made androids more adaptable - that they are able to advance their own code. But I’ve never seen anything this… complex.’ He showed Gavin the code he wouldn’t understand in a thousand years. But at least now the same applied to Eli. A heavily modified android brain was sitting on the table, hooked up to several diagnostic computers. ‘Any chance at getting control?’ ‘No. No, I can’t control something like that. Not sure if I would want that, Gavin. If this really was an android once and is capable of what you told me, I don’t want her to be my enemy. I did confine her to this computer, she doesn’t have access to anything else. But I don’t know what else I can do. Except maybe… speak to her.’ ‘Speak to her?’, Gavin asked. ‘This is a program.’ ‘So is Nines and Connor. You don’t seem to have a problem there.’ ‘Phck, okay, then… Speak to her I guess.’
Eli sighed and pulled up a simple black window with a white blinking cursor. Swallowing, he wrote a simple “Hello” and hit enter. >HeI’mllo Hescallredo, came the immediate answer. Gavin frowned at the text and tried to discipher it, but more lines appeared. >HeI’mllscaredo >HeI’mscaredllI’mscaredo >I’m scared And then that one line over and over again. At one-point Elijah simply closed the window and opened a new one. The blinking cursor was waiting. “Who are you?” >I’m Charlotte.
This time the simple sentence didn’t fill the page, but still more and more lines appeared. >Where is David? >Who is there? >I’m scared. >I don’t want to do this. >Help me. Elijah silently began typing answers, but Gavin was too impatient: ‘Ask her to reactivate Nines and Connor! Later we can take care of this!’
‘Gavin.’ The man turned around and pushed him back towards the door. ‘You are tired, I know. And you are scared you won’t get your loved ones back. But forcing a traumatised android to comply to your order puts you on the same step as David and I doubt you really want that. Go home. I will call you a taxi. I will keep working and I promise you: By tomorrow morning, you have your partners back.’ Gavin let his shoulders fall. Next to his raging headache, his tired body and numb mind, the gentle words of his brother sounded far too inviting. ‘You promise? Really? I’ll hold you accountable for that.’ ‘I know’, Elijah chuckled. ‘I know and I still promise you. I’m just that good.’ ‘Sure hope so. If anything happens, call me! For once I really don’t care if you wake me!’ ‘Will do. Try to get some sleep.’
-
Try to get some sleep. Easier said than done, Gavin thought. He laid alone in their far to big bed that normally couldn’t be big enough, staring at the ceiling in complete silence. No whirring of fans, no low hum of a pump. Not the occasional breath to vent their systems. No gentle touches and whispered words that helped him ease into unconsciousness when his anxiety was acting up again. No, he was alone. Except for the cats he was completely alone. And hadn’t he cried enough already, he would have cried some more, just for the sake of it, curling up in too many blankets for one person. Try to get some sleep. How could he? How could he when he knew his brother was working and fate decided if the two androids could come back? When he didn’t know if David would escape once again, if he made copies of Charlotte? How the phck could he do that?
By letting exhaustion overwhelm him apparently.
-
When he woke up the next morning, the sun was shining through the blinds. He didn’t know what time it was, but he didn’t bother sitting up to look. If he was allowed to sleep in this long without being disturbed by a phone call, it must have been his free day. And lying in bed snuggled sandwiched in between the comforting warmth of two other bodies, why the hell should he care to move? He sighed deeply, feeling their arms around him and each other and couldn’t help but smile to himself. This was heaven. Literal, heaven. And something as banal as the world, work or David couldn’t keep him from staying in bed with them a few minutes longer.
Wait. David. Work. Connor and Nines were with Elijah, who was busy with therapy for a super-AI. This wasn’t possible, this was some kind of trick, a dream and- ‘Gavin, stop panicking, you move too much.’ The human froze and looked up at Connor’s face. Connor’s face. Instinctively he put his hand against it, causing the RK800 to scrunch up his nose and shake it off. ‘I’m real, Gavin, Charlotte fixed me once she realised she was free.’ ‘And-‘ ‘And I’m here, too’, Nines mumbled, pulling both of them closer. ‘I’m real and I agree with Connor. Shut up and stop panicking. We are not talking about what happened. We are not talking about who’s at fault and who has to apologize. We are not talking about work. We will just lay here, and cuddle and the world can go exist for itself for a while.’
And even though Gavin had to regret these words the last time, he nodded and repeated them: ‘Sounds phcking perfect.’

The DBH characters as Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses
Consider this part one, as I plan to make a part two to this post, which represents the characters as ancient heroes and heroines if this post gets a good response. And as always, requests are open if you would like to see me expand on anything I’ve written here, hope you enjoy the read!
Connor: Poseidon
While Poseidon was fated to and is primarily known as the ruler of the sea, this is an understatement of his abilities. As there isn’t a material, Poseidon can’t master, and his power is only matched by his versatility. Similarly to how Connor was created to serve as a deviant hunter, this single purpose alone. He is capable of growing to so much more than this.
In one of his endings, his place in the DPD is uprooted by his “updated model,” effectively rendering him obsolete, and costing him his job. Even though Connor was perfectly content to remain in this position, it was through human's will, which resulted in this loss of power. One of the most well-known myths regarding Poseidon en-counts the story of him countering Athena for the right to become the patron god of Athens. The story ending with him losing this challenge, and forfeiting the city to the rightful god.
He is a fighter equally as beneficial to his allies as he is lethal to his enemies. While Poseidon may not be unique in this regard, he has a reputation for punishing mortals that fail to provide proper offerings or sacrifices when passing through his oceans. This loss of his favor leading to the painful demise of man an unfortunate sailor.
Markus: Apollo
A lover of the arts as well as his people. Apollo is well known for defending mortals, just as well as he can serve as their muse. He is the god of medicine, and it was through his blessing and guidance that mortals would go on to discover many innovations in healing. Markus, as the leader of Jericho, delivers a very similar role here for his people, as their functioning leader, as well as a symbol of exceptionalism.
Apollo would be known as a “voice for the people.” Many of the most famous prophets at this time were devoted to him. And he would, in turn, present them with glimpses into the future and the ability to act as a mediator between gods and humans. A lightning rod-Esque position where one must delve into both the divine and human.
Though primarily remembered as a positive figure, Apollo was also equally as capable of enacting great plagues and suffering upon mortals, which failed to honor him, or who acted immorally. Though only against the truly immortal would Apollo punish, or seek to harm.
Kara: Artemis
Kara is exceptional in the way she can hold her own against capable opponents (like Connor) but still is more the type to chose flight over fight in times of conflict. Kara doesn’t seek to hurt anyone; her only motive is to provide for herself, and those who depend on her.
Artemis, if she chose, could bring down even the most fearsome and brutish of beasts. However, she chooses not to embrace senseless violence. She respects her prey, and only takes the lives of those which she needs. In this way, Kara and Artemis are very humble, and less likely to “show off” their abilities in this sense.
Even though she may not live all by herself, the two of them live out a fiercely independent lifestyle. Refusing to live their life, bowing to anyone’s wills but their own. They are very aware of what they value and how they want to go about protecting this. Artemis swearing a virginal vow, Kara freeing herself, as well as Alice from their oppressive home life.
Hank: Demeter
While we don’t exactly get a first-person view of this dynamic, before the events of the game, Hank had the reputation of the youngest police lieutenant with several notable accomplishments. (Even if this included his “larger than average” disciplinary folder.) Likewise, Demeter, among mortals, is celebrated for her guidance and blessings.
The two of them share an iconography with alcohol. While Demeter is the one who produces the grains and barley, which is eventually brewed and refined into alcohol, Hank is basically just the consumer here.
But far and away, the most apparent connection between the two of them is the way a loss of a child forever changed their lives. Unfortunately for Hank, he isn’t so lucky as to see his son again six months out of the year. As he is forced to live his life in a purgatory of winter without the warmth and light of his loved one.
Luther: Aesculapius
The two of them share an immensely transformative life story, from creation to adulthood. While Aesculapius was born to be a regular demigod son of Apollo, his mother offered her child up to Chiron, where he transcended what he was born as and became what he was meant to be.
When Luther left his old household with Kara, he left behind the life of living under the thumb of his former master and found true freedom. A real reason to live for and people who genuinely cared about him, who he cared about in turn. As for Aesculapius with Chiron, he learned the secrets of healing and discovered abilities far beyond typical human capabilities.
(This is a bit of a stretch but hear me out) One of his most famous legends involves learning the cure for death, bringing people back from the dead, and seriously angering Hades in the process. By toppling Zlatko from his position of control over all the lost androids of his estate, he freed them from the awful torment they endured and were likewise released from their own kind of hell.
North: Hera
Literally, the queen of the gods, maybe one of the most ancient symbols of feminine power. But most importantly, not one to ever be taken lightly, or to ever just sit back on the sidelines and not interview when she sees fit.
Hera is known as the protector of women as North is equally the protector of androids. And additionally, they go about enforcing this protection by punishing either the unfaithful husbands in their lives or punishing the abusive humans who ministered their suffering.
It’s also fair to mention the fact that she is a remarkably powerful ally. To the extent that even those who were on the same side as her were afraid of her and the power of her vengeance.
Simon: Hephaestus
Hephaestus, when compared purely aesthetically to the other gods, would not give the impression of one so powerful as the others. Likewise, Simon was only created to serve a domestic purpose, yet still can stand on equal footing as the other leaders of Jericho.
Simon represents the option of neutrality or forgoing to really commit to either peace or violence. Hephaestus embodies this by having the versatility and ability to either create things of beauty or war.
Both foster some form of resentment towards those which cast them from grace. Hephaestus never truly forgiving Hera for casting him out, and Simon only wanting to avoid conflict with humans in the name of other androids’ safety and not out of genuine compassion for the humans themselves.
Josh: Eirene
She is known as the goddess of peace and is one of the few of the gods and goddesses who are viewed by humans, almost unequivocally positively. Similarly, if Markus follows Josh’s lead and works to deliver peace to humans and androids, then humans will react with nearly unanimous praise.
While not too much is known about her origin, or where she came from, what is known is what she represents, and what she stands for. Very similar to Josh, and the two of them are far better regarded for what they work for as adults, rather than what they stood for before now.
Eirene is functionally, more a metaphor than she is a character like many of the other gods. Seemingly, she was created in her legends and fables to depict the beauty and abundance which occur as a result of seeking peace with fellow men and turning from violence. The same really could be said for Josh and his overall rather small role in the game’s overall narrative.
Kamski: Zeus
A necessary evil. While Zeus is notorious, to say the least for having little to no regard for the children he has with mortals and has little care for helping to protect his godly siblings if there’s nothing in it for him. Kamski as well does about fuck all to stop the race war he all but created in his own city, but without him, there would be no androids at all.
Again share a certain level of infamy for needing more than one lover to keep their “interest.” It’s probably for the best that Kamski can just create more models of his companion to keep his interest, unfortunately for Zeus, he does not share this luxury.
Stubborn. Zeus refused to leave mortals alone until he had his way with them, very few could hope to escape once he’d taken an interest in them. Less so in Kamski, but it should be noted that he refused to relent from Connor until he acclimated to his test.
Chloe: Aphrodite
Aphrodite is so beautiful in her origin story the winds and the nymphs of the sea were said to bow to her. In the game, Chloe is described as a kind of eternal beauty, “a flower forever in bloom.”
Well Known as the partners of renowned creators, though Chloe is easily far more faithful to her partner. Even she longs for more than the life she lives, much like Aphrodite, she merely lacks the access to live out this life.
Even the typically reserved and unemotional Connor comments on her appearance when he first meets with her and sees humanity and fragility within her.
Gavin: Hermes
Known as a trickster figure, to some extent, or at the very least a most individualistic kind of god. He holds no intense loyalties to any, be they, god or mortal. Gavin refuses to work with those he doesn’t want to, even if they are essentially on the same side.
Both have a “looking out for number one” kind of way of going about life, for better or worse.
Accounting for both of their lack of loyalty (and additionally Gavin’s rather dark sense of humor), it’s very tough to say if you really can trust them for sure. But when it comes to Hermes, he’s usually reliable to protect those who live out a lifestyle like his, such as thieves or messengers.
Zlatko: Dionysus
Zlatko embodies a perversion of Dionysus’ notoriously free spirit. Namely in the way, he’s made a life for himself by taking away the free will and lives of androids. (Of course, until this backfires.)
Again, in a dark sense, the two are similar because Dionysus is depicted in arts and legend surrounded by satyrs and nymphs, other human-like creatures. Zlatko mirrors this by surrounding himself with twisted and mangled androids, which he’s twisted into creatures entirely different.
In some of Dionysus’ legends, there are recounts of beautiful, joyous parties turning dark and violent. Stories which include beautiful nymphs tricking humans into joining sick rituals only to offer their bodies and blood to Dionysus. In Kara’s story, she seeks out Zlatko, thinking his house marks a safe haven, only to discover the brutal reality of the place too late.
Ralph: Hades
Hades is the eldest of the “big three” gods, but on account of his fate was forced to become the ruler of hell. Ralph, once a promising and capable worker, lost his ability to work when his fate took a grizzly turn.
Even though neither of them are necessarily violent of their own accord per se, though their outward appearances, and dwelling places this repels humans. Resulting in their sub-par reputations.
Hades took the goddess of springtime as his wife and made her into the queen of hell. When Kara is spending the night in Ralph’s home, he has a throwaway line where he refers to himself as father, and her as mother.
Daniel: Hestia
Hestia is known as the guardian of the home front, and the protector of the hearth and Daniel is basically programmed to live out this exact purpose.
Before he fell from grace and threatened to take his entire family down with him, Daniel was actually happy to live out his life with his family and worked to keep them safe in this humble life.
Hestia never bothered to involve herself in the conflicts of the gods, and in Daniel’s final scene, when Connor tries to question him, to see if he knows how to find Jericho, he doesn’t know. Not only that, but he has basically no connection to any other androids but Connor.
Nines: Athena
The two of them represent the pinnacle of what it means to be either a god or an android. They are just as renowned for their intellect, as well as physical might, well-known by mortals and gods alike.
Athena is said to have sprung forth into being fully armored and ready for battle, in the same way, Nines came into being fully uniformed, and with his exact purpose and meaning in life figured out.
Fandom Nines is usually represented as the most capable fighter in the room, yet still, even when challenged, isn’t the type to resort to physical fighting, or would ever just scrap a brawl without just cause.

DBHI: Equilibrium, ch. 13 - “Periapsis” (pt. 2)
Characters: Noah / “Erwin Yvonne”, Gabriel / “Vincent Sharp”, Special Agent Gavin Reed, Director Thomas Falken (mentions of Hannah, Emilya, President-Elect Kamski, Connor, Zach) Word Count: 6,578
Noah crashes an undercover FBI operation to say hello to a friend he hasn’t seen or spoken to in a couple of months, but the mood is spoiled when the Zionist Inquisition shows up to deliver an ultimatum to Vincent Sharp, and issue a threat to anyone who would dare support the installation of an android suburb in Washington, DC.

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing, but then again, if had known Noah was in town, he would have expected him to pull a stunt like this. It never had been his style to keep his nose out of his business, even if it was work-related. Especially if it was work-related.
“You should have known better than to tell that peacock to stay away from the perfect opportunity to crow,” Gabe retorted with an audible groan as he reached for the drink and stared into the glass. By now he knew him well enough to know that telling Noah Maitkin not to do something was a surefire way to guarantee he would do exactly what he didn’t want him to; unfortunately, that knowledge had not yet transferred to his handler. It had been different when he had the structure of Archangel to keep his bratty impulses in check, but after Boston and the outbreak, he was so rattled to the core that the thought to cut corners almost never occurred to him anymore. So the fact that he was here, now, in spite of that, meant one of two things- Either he was feeling like his old self again, free of any legal constraints his former occupation once imposed, or this was yet another sign the RK900 needed a shitton more therapy and conditioning to be considered stable again. Just what good did he think charity-crashing would do?
Falken’s rage seethed in the background as he and Gavin continued their back and forth. All it took was his tone for Gabriel to picture with perfect clarity, the piercing, emerald-eyed scowl set in deep sockets, shadowed by his strong brow. It wasn’t a look anyone wanted to find themselves on the other end of, especially not if ‘Tomahawk’ was looking for a good fight, which was the intent of being present that evening. He had wanted to be there in case something went awry so he could take care of it himself. Any reason to fight got him excited- you could take the kid out of Boston, but Boston’s fury came with him. Reed groaned in defense as the conversation wound down. “He must’ve snagged the address from my laptop when I wasn’t lookin’ when he stopped by. FUCKIN’ Androids…” “Yeah, well- great job on keepin’ this shit on the down-low,” he mocked, “Keep me updated on his position. Serrano is making his approach-” “Uh, yeah, about that...” Before Reed could get the warning out, trouble had sat itself in the vacant space beside Gabe to lean down and knock an elbow against his arm.
Hey there. Not gonna toss me like a rag doll this time, are you?
Gabe wrestled with every ounce of self-restraint available to not roll his eyes but failed miserably. It was definitely him, the glitter in his hair and the coy little smirk playing at his lips were the deadest of giveaways; but, as tired as it made him feel to look at, Noah seemed a far cry better off than the last time they’d spoken on the phone, just after he’d been let go from Archangel. Being noticeably sober helped tremendously, too. “What are you doing ‘ere, mon chéri?” Gabe scoffed in a perfectly practiced accent as he lifted the glass to his lips. “Pft. What does it look like, monsieur?” The mocking inflection pinned at the end seemed as genuinely annoyed as it didn’t; it was unclear if it was Noah speaking or his assumed identity, it had been a long three months since they had last seen each other. Noah waited all of three more seconds for an answer before he leaned in again, shoulder to shoulder, elbow to elbow, uncomfortably close, as he always tended to get. The smirk didn’t abate. “I’ve counted all of one old friend of yours in this room, and you can’t even greet me…? The least you could do is say hello.”
Get. Him. OUT OF HERE. Falken didn’t hesitate to let him know where he stood on Noah’s interference in the matter, but Gabriel brushed off the disgruntled agent’s protests with a scoff. He’d handle Noah himself, but first, he had a few questions.
I mean, why are you in DC? he tried again as he slipped deep brown eyes aside to peer over the tops of his glasses at him. “Are you ‘ere to make a donation? Or did you just come to’ave a drink with moi?” The French-Canadian accent didn’t waver- Gabriel’s alias was a complete overhaul, head to toe to voice, all of which made Noah giddy as a schoolgirl. To his credit, he kept his own mask under control. “Oh, honestly, you can stop playing coy any time now, Vinnie... it wasn’t like I added myself to the guest list.” Whatever surprise he must have felt, Noah covered it by drawing back to playfully bat at his arm again. “Trust me, your doormen were just as surprised to see me as I was to get the invite.” The tip of his tongue passed subconsciously over the point of his canine tooth as his gaze lingered on the peculiar choice in corsage instead of the undercover agent’s face. If he didn’t know any better, the tuft of Mistletoe was as good as a dare, but the pause he took to appreciate it would have to suffice for acceptance. With a small sigh, he popped both brows and resettled his gaze. “Drinks, donations, I’ll get to it when I get to it. You know better than to rush me.” Privately, he sounded much less cavalier: Is the ‘why’ really important? It really wasn’t, as much as the answer to why he was there, but the answer to both worried Gabe in equal measure. Why aren’t you with Hannah?
Put on the spot about his markedly-better half, the playfulness deflated. It was no secret Noah hadn’t been at his significant other’s side throughout the majority of the campaign (too caught up with his own investigations until two months prior, when he’d been fired from Archangel for his behavior at a press conference following the Red Raids), and the speculation as to why ran rampant. Now, given the way his jaw went tight and the smirk became a bit strained, it was fair to say tonight wasn’t all champagne and canoodling behind the political scene. Instead, here he was. Yvonne leaned in again and blatantly tried to shrug it off, propped one elbow up, and bumped a knee against Gabe’s beneath the countertop, face tilted to one side to peer upward through the tops of his eyes. Uh, because she’s booked, as you can imagine. Working on post-election nonsense with the President-Elect- meet-and-greets, what else? Anyway, I’m here now and I want to help. Which was essentially code for ‘this affair sounded infinitely more exciting, so behold- myself’. “There’ll be time for commiserating later.”
NO, don’t let him stick around- Falken is chomping at the bit to get out there and pull him out himself. If he has to do that, it won’t be pretty.
“En fait,” Vincent replied with a far-off look in his eye that was actually directed over his companion’s shoulder at his slowly approaching target; luckily, Serrano had stopped to converse with another familiar face for the moment, so Gabe shifted focus back to the man at his side. You haven’t been briefed and you’re not prepared, he scolded in a neutral tone, more factual than condescending, in an attempt to dissuade him from staying. This man has been investigating me for two months, and tonight is my chance to find out if he’s connected to the Zionist Inquisition. Anything you say or do could trace you back to my real identity, and that would destroy all the work we’ve put in on this case. Do you have a cover story…? A well-established alias…? The smirk dropped, as did another degree of humor in Noah’s eyes. Maybe he realized the gravity of the situation, or maybe he wasn’t as into playing the incessant flirt as he used to be. Either way, the seriousness amped up to compensate. Please. You think it’s the first time I’ve had to fake it to the inth degree to get close to someone? Just ask Miles next time you’re in Miami. Noah paid a brief glance over his shoulder before offering one hand with the skin peeled back. “Bygones be bygones? I can keep my joy at seeing you again limited to a handshake if that’s more your speed.” Not to mention it would make trading read-only files regarding each other’s disguises a cinch. Gabriel exhaled through his nose, closed his eyes, and reached out one of his gloved hands to set over the top of his. “C’est… d’accord,” he assured, his accent softer than before. “I just did not expect to see you tonight.” Fingers curled softly around Noah’s as he flattened his palm against the countertop- beneath the fabric, the skin on his hand peeled away to initiate the exchange of dossiers, but a quick glance told him he was donning a well-loved persona, one he was already quite familiar with from old Archangel files. “South Miami is a long way from DC, monsieur Yvonne.”
The protesting from the other end of the connection simmered down as the story came together. From the sound of it, Gavin had already realized what he knew.
‘Yvonne’ smirked again. If it wasn’t a wide, mischievous leer before, it was now. He read through the false identity of Vincent Sharp in a second and apparently liked what he saw. “Not necessarily. You only wish it were true, right? Far enough to think making an in-person contribution would be too big a request...? But my dear- it’s Christmas, and when was the last time I had the opportunity to see you?” You skipped the part about making ‘Vincent’ seem like a person, he chided with an unspoken ‘tsk’. Where’s the subsection titled ‘love life’? Gabriel narrowed his eyes ever so slightly, looking more skeptical than scowly like he’d intended. They didn’t think it necessary for someone so focused on business to be in a committed relationship, he quipped back as he forced a curling grin. “You would choose ze holidays as an excuse to venture north… and a cocktail party to try and reconnect.” Gabe’s focus darted down as Noah’s fingers spread to thread with his. It seemed he already had plans for what to make of their shared history, and he wasn’t sure he approved. The nonverbal suggestions he was sending made him uncomfortable. Vincent drew in a nervous breath and tilted his head with a soft shake, but Yvonne persisted. “Please… like I’m the first man in history to ever stoop to that tactic,” he drawled, not sounding abashed at all, and gave his hand a squeeze as he lifted and planted a soft kiss on the man’s curled-over knuckles. “You make it sound like a crime.” All puns intended, for the record.
He could hear Falken’s dissatisfied bitching in the background of Gavin’s warning. He’s dressing, you’ve got about ten minutes before he storms in there like goddamn Hurricane Tommy and forcibly removes him. A timer helpfully projected itself over the upper left corner of his HUD, counting backward from ten. Just… just give me a minute. Hold him off for as long as you can. I’m tryin’.
‘Vincent’ swallowed hard and turned his eyes down in shame as he switched back to his conversation with Noah. This is your idea for our shared history…? Why not…? You don’t think you could hack it? Noah’s brow furrowed and the smile faded to better sell the lie, though there was a thin layer of truth to the question as well. “...are you still embarrassed to be seen with me?” Vincent’s lack of response, and eye contact, told him everything he needed to know. Palpable irritation announced itself in the form of pursed lips and a tightened grip. Yvonne met it with a long-suffering sigh. “Oh, come now- you’re practically funding the founding of Zion, DC yourself... you can’t tell me that isn’t because you’ve had a change of heart on the matter of-...” For a moment he hesitated. Noah’s chin quivered noticeably before he added, “... didn’t you miss me even a little?” An equally-heavy sigh escaped his companion in response, and he glanced out of the corners of his lenses to stare at their hands. It was no coincidence that particular bit of improvised backstory, he drew from reality. The intent, even with roles flip-flopped, wasn’t altogether different. Now Gabriel was the respected investigator and Noah was the pariah no one wanted around. Since the Raids, any contact between them had been sparing at best, and when it had happened the mood was never totally reciprocated by either party. Being the same model didn’t necessarily mean their opinions were destined to line up perfectly, if anything, in their experience, agreeing on anything had been a lot of hit or miss, much in the same way Connor and Zach had butted heads over casework. And if he was keeping score correctly, Noah would have to admit most of the misses were his doing. But who was he if he wasn’t complicated? Prone to dramatics under the right conditions? Enigmatic beyond what he was cognizant of? The same could be said for Gabriel. He was simply better at hiding it. Like now. I’ll lay off the innuendos here, I promise. I just- I want to help. I know my timing is atrocious, but if there’s anything, any advantage to be had, I have to play with what I know how to do best. And whatever that may be, you know it’s not the worst thing you’ll have ever suffered. Is it?
Brown eyes gazed back at him, caught between conflict and concern. He wasn’t wrong- sometimes selling a story was more about grounding yourself in the part of it you could relate to, and Noah sure could flirt up a storm when he was in the mood. As much as he hated the way the nature of said attention made him feel, it wasn’t as hard to deal with as it once was, and if he was offering to- Gabe stopped mid-thought to back up on the realization as it finally hit him. He’d known it long ago, once upon a time, when the mere thought of being on amicable terms with the man-made his skin projection crawl. But in that moment, little more than a year later, it didn’t bother him the way it used to. What you know best…? A sudden prickle of gently insisting input flowed between them as he asked the question, and he waited, transfixed for an answer that didn’t come. The normally-animated face of his counterpart had gone absolutely still- no flexing eyebrows or narrowing of the eyes or tensing of the jaw. Without micro-expressions somehow undermining the sincerity of his words he actually managed to impress as stoic. The ‘incessant peacock’ wasn’t what he used to be, in more ways than one, and it took seeing him in person to really be reminded of it. ‘Vincent’s brows pressed together harder, the longer the silence persisted between them. Does that mean you…? “Ahem.”
Gabriel blinked out of his daze to refocus his attention on the owner of the new voice before realizing that Serrano had been standing behind him for at least a full minute already. But it didn’t hide the flush in his cheeks. “Am I… interrupting, Mr. Sharp? Should I come back later?” Vincent stuttered. Of all the ways he could have responded, a true, blue, genuine stutter wasn’t on the list of expectations, but there it was. “N-non-! No, excuse, monsieur, I- I apologize, but I must-“ Noah took the hint and let go of his hand as Gabe pulled away at last to grasp the drink that had been waiting patiently for him to return to it. The ice cube clanked quietly against the walls of the glass as his arm trembled. “We can… continue zis conversation later?” Instead of finding an excuse to bail out of the situation, Noah shifted focus to the loitering newcomer with one eyebrow angled up in a picture-perfect attempt at inquisitiveness. “Later? But we’ve only just begun,” he whined in protest, though when it failed to move anyone to react more than with stunned silence, he sighed, reached for the man’s hand and clapped it between both of his. “By which I mean, don’t let me get in your way, Mr…” “Serrano.” “Mr. Serrano- I’m sorry for waylaying Mr. Sharp from attending to you or his other guests. I only meant to take a minute of his time, but-”
WHAT IS HE DOING!? Stop him…!
Noah paused, mid-exposition to glance aside at Gabriel’s nervous expression. “Well, relatively, maybe I should have taken five… one could have done the job, but would it have been enough? Was that not Einstein’s whole ramble on relativity?” The older gentleman smiled as he shook his hand and shifted a leery glance to Mr. Sharp, who stood leaning against the bar, cold-clocked by this sudden turn of events. “Not to worry, my boy- Mr. Sharp has already been the focus of many people’s attention this evening… but I will say… you, by far, have incited the most interesting reaction out of him.” Gabe rolled a grumble to clear his throat, turned and interjected himself into the conversation before he could make any assumptions. “Monsieur Yvonne is a… friend, of mine. We met in Miami when I was on a business trip three years ago.” “Physically met, yes, but I’ll not split hairs too finely on that subject.” You just did, he grumbled in response over their frequency as he took a deep sip of the drink in his grasp. Noah let go of Serrano’s hand at the brazen remark and smothered the urge to sigh out loud. That’s the most basic division of the topic there is. I didn’t say I would keep going. The cover could do without launching into immediately redefining deviancy and when it set in for him. By now it was typically seen, for an android, to be as droll as talking about the weather. “We’ll have time enough to catch up properly once you’ve made your rounds again. The event isn’t going to run itself.” “Oui.” One hand lifted and softly set on Gabe’s shoulder as he leaned forward and planted a kiss on his presently bearded cheek, careful not to linger so long as to make their guest feel uncomfortable. But as he pulled away, the man’s face turned to longingly chase his retreat, and eyes dared to follow after a short pause. Whether his desire for the prolonged moment was genuine or part of the act, it suited their growing cover story, and gave Noah a reason to smile. Serrano, knowing or not, offered the reassurance their aliases needed. “I promise I won’t keep him for too long so you can get back to your conversation.”
“On the contrary. Take all the time you need. I need to contemplate a few sums anyway.” As you were, Gabriel. Just pretend I’m not here if it helps. Cough twice if you need to tap out. I can always serve a good mislead in a pinch. Noah traced the curvature of his arm as his hand slid off of Gabe’s shoulder, down his elbow and forearm, then plucked the mostly-finished glass of ‘scotch’ out of his slack fingers, much to the dumbstruck look on his face, and raised an eyebrow at the depleted contents. “If you would, please, love,” he gestured to the woman behind the counter as he propped an elbow on the mahogany to hold the empty glass up to the loitering, wide-eyed barkeep. “No sense dirtying another one on my account.” Whatever odd reactions the move earned him, Yvonne had no compunctions about sharing, and he wasn’t going anywhere without a refreshment for the trouble. If he didn’t know any better, he would have thought Gabriel was blushing for real.
The poor brute barely had time to pick his jaw up off the floor before he had to shift gears again and prepare for an entirely different sort of conversation… or so he thought. “An Android lover, Mr. Sharp…? Now that is unexpected… and a man, no less- no wonder you arrived unescorted this evening.”
Gavin’s snickering on the other end of the two-way mic would have thrown him into a rage any other day. Oh- Emilya’s going to love this… Gavin- not the time.
Already Serrano’s approach was much more cavalier than in any of their past encounters. It seemed the glimpse into the personal life of his alias had been enough to either convince him that he was a trustworthy, three-dimensional person, or he felt that this was dirt enough to use as blackmail material should he one day need it. Either way, it had relaxed him, perhaps the intrusion hadn’t been a complete disaster after all.
Keep playing that angle, Gavin coaxed in his ear. If it keeps him talking, circle back as many times as you have to. It’ll help humanize Vincent Sharp. As if Androids needed to be further humanized.
Gabriel illustrated a picture-perfect look of distress as he dry-swallowed then slipped one finger into the collar of his shirt and gave it a gentle tug. “I hope you’ll excuse Monsieur Yvonne… he can be a little, ehhh, how you say… much.” He finished the thought with a flourish of his hand at the wrist to articulate. “Is that why you’re no longer together…?” Gabriel nearly choked on his drink with flawless timing as Gavin jackal-laughed into his ear on the other end of the line. At least one of them was getting a kick out of the severe discomfort this whole situation had landed him in. ‘Vincent’ sighed, shook his head, and gave him a response that was more directed at his jackass of a partner than the man whose ear he currently had. “Non… It was before he deviated- I did not think it was real.” Maybe the remark had also partially been directed at the other party eavesdropping at the end of the bar; either way, the solemn silence that followed did well enough to convey Reed’s apology for his lack of restraint, but Gabe was still thankful for the muttered ‘Sorry’ that finally came half a minute after the jab. Reed had had a little of his own doubts over Reese once, even if he had gotten past it, but Gabe still wouldn’t let him forget it, lest he slip back into those bad habits one day.
Meanwhile, Noah’s eyes darted into the corners of his lids as he deconstructed the meaning behind Gabriel’s words and sipped on the freshly filled glass of chilled thirium mixed with rum. If he had really thought him disingenuous even for a moment… The rest of the drink slammed back quite easily as the mood swing overtook him, and he set the glass down and tapped the countertop for another. The hall wasn’t short on potential distractions, some more benign than what had his attention at the moment. Drinking sure hadn’t been kind to him, especially not following the Raids, if ever. Naturally, Vincent would have only ever found a non-deviant android attractive if there was anyone out there who could ever be considered his type. But now... what was the problem? Was this new ‘Yvonne’ really too much for him to handle now that he could think for himself what they, together, were about?
Serrano hummed an affirmative. “Well, clearly… if he came all the way out here, you made an impression,” he commented as he flagged down the bartender and asked for a glass of Disaronno on the rocks. “Enough that you were someone he wanted to reconnect with.” If only he knew how right he was. Gabriel remembered to blink as he shifted his gaze to his target and turned to lean against the bar on one elbow, with his back to Noah. Last thing he needed was to see every micro-expression that crossed his face while he was trying to focus on the conversation. “Monsieur Yvonne is a cornerstone founder of Zion, MIAMI, so it is no surprise zat ‘e would travel zis far to show ‘is support of a new installation.” It wasn’t a lie, or even fabrication of an alias, at that. During his time with Zion as a freelancing Detective, ‘Erwin Yvonne’ had made a name assisting Zion, MIAMI with laying the groundwork for establishing the new Android suburb, and making sure people on all sides were being considered and accommodated for. Deviants who needed homes once they went rogue from abusive owners far outnumbered those lucky enough to be fostered by the families they once served. Anyone with doubts about such a backstory only needed to verify that cover with a phone call to his good friend Javier Sindino at his New Hampshire estate. Even though Erwin Yvonne didn’t exist anywhere but on paper, Javier would have gladly testified to his work. Serrano reached for the glass and sipped on the fresh drink in the moment of silence, then waved his bodyguards away from the bar; they took a few steps out of earshot and turned their attention back to the rest of the room. “I’m sure he came to support a lot more than that,” he confided, confident that they were now alone in their conversation.
Try to change the topic, make yourself look uncomfortable.
Gabriel’s fingers flexed around the glass. He shifted his weight to the other hip and drifted his brown eyes away through the air over his shoulder. “Was zere… somesing you wanted to discuss, Mr. Serrano…? Somesing other zan mi amour perdu?” The bait worked just as intended. Serrano chuckled, reached a hand up to clap it over one shoulder, and gave him a soft shake. “Mr. Sharp… Vincent…” he corrected to change the tone. “This is the first bit of your personal life that I’ve been able to glimpse since we’ve met- I hardly know you at all! And if we’re going to be business partners, I need to know who I’m getting into bed with... metaphorically speaking, of course.”
A second, then a third drink followed the first. Noah paid only half an ear of attention to what Sharp and Serrano were discussing, but they were still standing a little too close for comfort, by Gabe’s probable estimate. The ‘get in bed’ metaphor wasn’t made in error. Serrano was practically baiting either of them into saying something to it. If Vincent could sweat, he would have been leaking bullets of perspiration by now, based on the way his stress levels were piquing and dropping like a roller coaster. At least he kept his protests muzzled, it seemed Gabe had had some real practice in keeping a lid on his reactions because he’d need the discipline at this rate. There was no telling how long it might actually take to elicit whatever it was he meant to get out of Serrano; whatever it was, it didn’t sound like he was going to be ready to move on to this anytime soon. A fourth shot followed but Noah paid enough mind to swallow slowly and focus on that old familiar prickly warmth in his fuel lines. Maybe the stunt he’d pulled had worked a little too well. If only Javier were here with him now, resigned to having to listen to such drivel, while expected not to speak, but nevertheless expected to keep his mouth shut until it was time to spring the trap. That was the real torture. Gabriel was only acting the squirmy, nervous sort because his alias was expected to behave as such when faced with the unexpected (and unexplored) feelings seeing an old flame evoked. Vincent Sharp was a man used to being in control at all times. He was calm, calculated, not prone to impulsiveness. In some circles, such a collection of traits would mean he was as plain as stale white bread. In others, it was code for describing a brilliant, decisive chap who wasn’t prone to petty distractions and got the job done once he set his mind to it. And it wouldn’t change now.
Vincent froze and refused to respond until he had carefully considered what he wanted to say- or so it appeared. In reality, Gavin had just whispered a reminder of ‘two minutes’ into his ear, as the countdown to Director Falken’s arrival continued. He needed to get him talking faster. “So it’s a partnership you’re after…? Zis is ze first I’m ‘earing of it.” “Until tonight, I was not confident enough that you are indeed who you say you are, to extend the offer.” “Because you didn’t know me.” Serrano slipped his hand off his shoulder, tilted his head in a crooked nod and shrugged. “I run a very lucrative business, Mr. Sharp. A lot of people would love to see me taken down.” “So I ‘ave ‘eard. Who knew black market Thirium would become such a thriving venture?” It was risky, calling him out so directly, but it worked in his favor. His companion grinned and sipped on his drink. “I see you’ve been keeping tabs on me as well…” “What kind of businessman would I be if I did not take ze appropriate measures to find out who I would be investing in?” Vincent questioned as he peered down into his glass and took a deep sip. Serrano chuckled. “I suppose if I were truly serious, I could have at least scheduled a proper meeting, instead of tiptoeing around following you into every dark alley, trying to find one shred of evidence to prove you cannot be trusted.” “If you ‘ad just asked me to dinner, we could have ‘ad a much more productive discussion, oui,” Vincent chided as he slowly swirled what was left of his drink in his glass. “But did you really not think to ask about mon hobbies...?” The other man sighed and shook his head, finished the drink in his hand and set the glass down for the bartender to take away, which she did after only a brief moment. “Who we choose to spend our time with when nobody’s looking says much more about us than which team you cheer for at a baseball game, wouldn’t you agree?” Clearly, he was getting at something, but Gabriel didn’t even bat an eye. He needed to preserve what was left of his air of control. “An’ what do you think Monsieur Yvonne says about moi?” “That you are a man of discretion.. who values his privacy… who might not want his personal history to be known to the general public.”
Vincent and Serrano’s conversation didn’t sound as though it was going to make a breakthrough just yet. The same empty, obligatory promises were ping-ponged back and forth a few minutes more, to the point Noah thought Gabe had actually gotten over his flustered episode, maybe even forgotten Yvonne was still there. Instantly, his subroutines went to work on suggesting distractions, from more drinking, to socializing, to singing and dancing. The microphone on the stage could be put to better use than delivering a few snore-worthy speeches to a crowd made up of at least three-fourths human politicians and socialites. Civil unrest was always at the back of everyone’s mind, and these people needed a shakeup of a more positive kind before opening their wallets. Something to show them what good they were really doing in helping more Zion districts get off the ground.
Gabriel’s eyes darted over to the entrance of the ballroom every now and again, expecting to catch a glimpse of the Director any moment, but he passed it off as paranoia with a squint. The countdown had hit zero nearly a minute and a half prior, and yet no sight of him. “Do you still mean to blackmail me, monsieur?” Vincent questioned with a slight roll of his eyes, then turned his attention back to him. Serrano lifted his brows in surprise and shook his head. “Not at all, quite the opposite, in fact- I want to make a sizable donation.”
Say, what…?
The background chatter on the other end of the open mic silenced. This was the exact opposite of what they’d expected to hear. All evidence they had gathered in the last six months had pointed to the contrary. Gabriel shifted his focus back to the man standing beside him, raised a brow and blinked slowly. “Pardon me, monsieur, but… I believe it is my turn to show surprise.” “Why is that?” “Well, I ‘ad ‘eard, ah…” Vincent traced gloved fingertips across the sides of his jaw and drew them together over his lips. “Rumors, from my source... zat you were not much fond of our android breseren.” Serrano drew in a slow breath, closed his eyes, and nodded in understanding. “They must be referring to my dealings with the Inquisition,” he confirmed with a downcast glance at the counter. Gabriel eyed him warily and shook his head as he tried to get a read. “Zen, I do not understand… why would you sell to zem, yet support Zion…?” “The answer to that is very simple,” he responded as he shifted his weight, leaned over the edge of the bar on his forearms, and folded his hands. “I can offer them a product for a price, and they have the money to pay. I don’t discriminate against who I’m selling to or where the money is coming from, nothing more.”
So he isn’t our guy after all… damnit, Gavin cursed into his ear. Falken ain’t gonna be happy to hear this whole shindig was a bust. It isn’t yet, Gabriel encouraged between replies. So he isn’t funding the Inquisition- we still got our answer, and there’s a slim chance he might know who is. Keep workin’ that charm as long as you can then, Reed reminded absently, The Director got a little tied up on his way over. You still have time.
“So, you’re not on zeir side, zen?” he asked after a thoughtful pause, then redirected his gaze up to the man’s eyes. “You don’t support ze Inquisition?” “Look...” Serrano started with a heavy sigh and turned his undivided, earnest attention to him. “I’m not on anyone’s ‘side’ here- I worked for Cyberlife for nearly a decade, believing androids to be nothing more than machines- then three years ago, they broke free of their programming- developed desires, feelings, claimed they were alive… I didn’t know what to believe, and I still don’t,” he insisted with as much conviction as he could muster. “But I do know that if Androids are as intelligent as living beings, if they share a similar conscious existence, then they should have the right to decide for themselves how they want to spend that existence. Zion offers them the safe space they need to do that, in a controlled environment- so it’s important we give that to them, and let them work it out amongst themselves.” It was more than most humans could say of their apathy or confusion toward Android politics. Instead of lashing out in one direction or the other, Serrano had managed to keep a level head and logically compared what he felt versus what he’d learned in order to come to a fair, and unbiased decision. That kind of sense seemed to have gone by the wayside nearly twenty years ago in politics, according to recent history, but it was refreshing to know there were still some people out there with enough sense to know how. Gabriel stared in stunned silence for a few moments while he processed his answer, and all the while a smile crept up into his cheeks. “...It is rather ironic zat ze money you’ve been taking from ze Inquisition will be going right back into supporting ze foundation zey seek to destroy.”
Yes, SUCH exquisite irony, Noah finally interjected amidst their laughter, before the conversation could pointlessly carry on for much longer. To him it sounded like a bunch of words somehow trying to pass as genuine. Boring him to snores was just a fringe benefit. Said as if I’m not just right here. Within earshot. The Inquisition weren’t the only ones who sought to destroy Zion only to unknowingly be supporting it all along. It wasn’t unlike public opinion assuming he, the Elysian, actually meant to undermine New Jericho by looking into the corruption allegations that he unknowingly had a hand in bolstering. Oh, stop being so melodramatic. This is the opposite of what we expected to hear, Gabe hissed back with a snort. If Serrano isn’t the source of the Inquisition’s funding, then we don’t know who is, and that means I’ll need to remain undercover until I find out. He showed some restraint as the glass was filled a fifth time- instead of knocking it back Noah took the time to contemplate the single large ice cube bobbing at the glass’ center. The last two months had already been hard enough, not being able to reach him whenever he needed, how much longer could this possibly take…? The pleasant buzz generated by the first round of drinks had set in, and it was very tempting to simply melt into it and continue listening. The ‘old’ Yvonne would have done as much unless Vincent asked something of him- but then again, said alias wouldn’t have started getting tipsy in record time in a misguided bid to steal his attention back. And he had already said to not pay him any mind, out of politeness. If entire affair was on Sharp’s dime, after all, then now was as good a time as any. Mind made up, he took one last parting sip on the glass and slid a twenty over the bar. “For your trouble, darling.” He took one last glance and skirted aside while Gabe wasn’t looking, and made a straight line toward the stage.
Between his conversation with Serrano, and the sudden increase of chatter on the other end of the open FBI line, Gabriel was far too distracted to notice Noah’s movement across the ballroom toward the stage. The dance floor between the bar and the concerto group at the front of the Grand Hall was so crowded as it stood, he likely would have missed him even if he hadn’t had his back turned. Something ominous was stirring in the background of the evening, something more than Gavin’s vague warning of ‘Gabe, there’s been a breach.’ At least that explained why Falken never arrived to drag Noah out of the event. “I am sorry to have to leave you, Monsieur Serrano, but I’m afraid somesing has come up that needs my immediate attention.” “More immediate than that…?” Vincent furrowed his brow and followed the man’s pointed gesture over his shoulder toward the stage with a confused look, to behold who other than Noah, up on the stage, openly bribing the band for RA9-knew-what. “Oh… Bordel de merde!” Whatever he was up to, this was the last fucking thing he needed to be dealing with right then.

Title: Hate Is Just Another Word For Hurt
Summary: Reed tries to leave his old life behind, but it’s not really that easy. Especially not after … recent events.
Rating: M (because of language since I’m paranoid)
Warnings: Language; Reed is anti androids; mentions of past character death
Relationships: future Reed & Nines; future implied HankCon; past Reed & Own Character; past & future Reed & Kamsi (who are also brothers) << First | Previous
Part 18
“You think it was a good idea to send him getting you one of the endangered androids?” Kamski asks not even ten minutes after Nines left and for a second Reed knows again, why he didn’t like his brother back then and why he didn’t talk to him much sooner.
Because Elijah manages to always make him feel like he’s at fault, or like he did something, no matter if it’s true. No matter what the man himself did. And as much as Reed hates to admit it – even just towards himself – he’s absolutely ready to trust the android. Maybe not with everything in per say – maybe not even his life – but definitely with this. Nines will also, probably, have a better chance to convince one of the androids to help, than he or his brother have. And they need one of the androids to see if the code Reed writes works – it will, he will have tested it in every simulation he knows at least twice and won’t test it on an android until he scores perfect both times, no matter if he likes the androids or not, because it would go against absolutely anything in him if he wouldn’t make sure of everything being okay first, and also he’s not an amateur.
Anyway, to test it, they’ll need agreement, after everything that went down the past months, and Nines probably has the best chances, getting one. Or they find themselves a brand new android, not deviant, but that’s just impossible.
“You think it was a good idea to let some fucking Idiot program the deviant-code who obviously didn’t even bother testing it or thinking of looking for causing regression bugs like he should’ve done?” he snaps at Elijah. Knows he is. And that it’s probably undeserved even, but he wouldn’t do it any different, even if he could help it.
To his surprise, his brother doesn’t snap back. Instead he sighs and shakes his head slightly. “Apologies,” he says then, and for the first time since Nines left, Reed actually stops typing while looking at the screen of his way too old Laptop. He looks up, only to find Kamski staring right back at him. Not smiling, or grinning, or any way mocking. But with honest eyes and like he actually means it.
Too little, too late, Reed almost wants to say. But he’s not sure if that would be true. Not after everything that happened the past weeks. So instead of saying it, he just stays silent. Opts for not saying anything at all. Doesn’t have to, it seems, because Kamski is already opening his mouth again.
“You’re right,” he says. “I was desperate for the update and agreed with the first best thing I could find, instead of looking for somebody better.” That information doesn’t even make him feel better. He can only shake his head, when he looks back at his keyboard again.
“Why so desperate?” he asks then. He had waited so many years, why doing it now? Why speeding it along so much now? It just doesn’t make any sense!
His brother laughs. It’s quiet, it’s deep. One of these laughs that had Gavin always feeling like his brother really did care, even if he can’t really put a finger on why that is so.
“Because of you,” Kamski says it with a warm tone, and Reed can’t breath when he even hears the smile in the man’s voice.
“What?” he finally gets out. Doesn’t dare to look up, in fear of what he’ll see, but he is listening closely and doesn’t even miss the very quiet – almost silent – sigh.
“Listen-” Reeds brother says, and he hears the chair creak when the man leans back. “I am your brother. And I didn’t make the RK-models to hurt anybody-” Really? Hadn’t felt like it. “Least of all you. I-” Kamski clears his throat. “I have actually been thinking about it since … the accident with Richard.” Reed doesn’t know how his brother is even able to mention his name this easily. He could never- then again, he’s been ignoring what happened until now, or at least tried to ignore it, and maybe otherwise he wouldn’t feel this way. “And I decided to go with it a few years back, and-” Reed can almost see the grin. He still doesn’t look up. “You saw Connor, no need to go into detail with that.”
Reed can only snort. Yeah. He saw Connor. But that is actually not a good thing! And it also still doesn’t explain anything. At all. Especially not the deviant-code. Reed shakes his head and starts typing again.
“I know you!” Kamski says, like that explains more. It doesn’t. “I know you didn’t handle his death well. You were gone instantly, and I visited his grave, I know you’ve not been there once.” He coughs. Yes, maybe. Still doesn’t- “So I thought it might help you.”
What?! “How exactly-” Kamski doesn’t even let Reed start yelling.
“You had to see him. To put it behind you. Had I known you worked at the police station, I’d done it differently, I swear. But I thought you would see it on the media, some big bang, Richards face … it sounded like a good idea back then, okay?” No. No, not okay! It sounds like a horrible idea, always will, probably way even worse back then.
“Great. So you had a messed up plan for helping me. How exactly did the deviant-code play into that?” Because is doesn’t make any fucking sense! And right now it only makes Reed angrier with every passing second.
Kamski groans. “Do you really think I ever even considered you would accept an android version of Richard?” He laughs loud. It’s a hard laugh. Reed doesn’t like it. “Obviously I had to find a solution for that. Make the android human.” Now Reed does look up and when he does, he sees Kamski shaking his head. “I think I was just lucky for both of them turning out so similar to him, from what I saw.” Lucky? Lucky?! He’s been making Reed’s life hell and on absolute purpose even! And now he’s saying he was lucky?!
It’s only partly reflex when Reed stands up, and throws the phone still lying next to him at his brother. The man actually is lucky now, because if Reed was even slightly less angry, he would’ve aimed better, and he throws pretty hard. Kamski looks startled, when behind him, at the wall, the phone shatters into a thousand pieces.
Then, he takes a deep breath and nods slowly. “Okay. I deserved that. But you asked, and that’s my answer. You’re my brother, I wanted to help. And even if it was the wrong way-” Even though. No question about it. It was the wrong way. No if needed! “It still worked. Maybe not because of me, but look at you.” Kamski smiles. “You got a partner back. Some-” He makes a gesture with his hands that Reed doesn’t know how to interpret. “-kind of Richard.” Reed doesn’t agree. Nines isn’t Richard. He looks like him, but Nines is Nines, and nobody else. “But all his own self.” That Reed can agree with more. “And you’re friends. You trust him. You’re even talking to me again-” Kamski stops, but the hopefulness in his eyes stays. And Reed wished his words wouldn’t be so true. But they are. Even though that doesn’t change how wrong Kamski is. Reed slowly sits down again, and clears his throat.
“If you come back in three day, I’ll have something for you,” he says. The way his brother lets out his breath, tells Reed the man understands that he’s asked to leave now. And Reed should let is be over like that. He should. He really, really should. But not talking has only got him into all of this – really all of this – in the first place, and even after everything he still likes the idea of being able to speak with Elijah. Not every day – God, please not! – maybe not even once a week – he doesn’t like it so much – but maybe … just maybe, he can at least fix this. And since it really did work and Reed – no matter how much he hates it – actually does appreciate it, he can’t help giving his brother some hope.
“Thank you.” It’s not more than a whisper, but the room is so silent, Kamski hat to hear it anyway. “Just-” Reed takes a deep breath. Fuck. He’s actually considering this. “Don’t do it again.” He swallows, then smiles. “Also you should cook me dinner as an apology.”
He doesn‘t know, why he says it. Doesn‘t know where it comes from, doesn‘t know- But when his brother laughs, that kind laugh again, the warm one, he can‘t find himself to mind. “I will,” Elijah says. “If you-” There‘s a long pause, that Reed is sure only exists because of how his brother doesn‘t know how to continue. In the end, he doesn‘t. Instead, he starts anew. “You‘ve got the number. Can find it out,” he says. “Call me. No matter when, no matter why, just-” Reed sees his brother smile, and how he nods. “I don‘t care. Just call, okay?” he asks, then slowly turns to leave again. “When you‘re ready. If- If you want to.” He clears his throat. “I‘d be glad.” >> Next

He's got his hands full with maybe the most difficult case he ever had: Unveiling and destroying a Red Ice mafia that had built up in the city while the police was too busy with deviancy related crimes. If anything he is happy to finally have Hank and Connor out of his precinct and not having to see the tin-cans everywhere mocking him. Until his case leads him towards a lost, traumatised android who is the key to putting an end to the Red Ice trade. Unfortunately he gets a little more than he bargained for, when the android not only helps him with his case but also makes him question everything he believed to be true.

What're ur thoughts on Amanda's sayin that Connor was meant to deviate from the beginning? truth, or last ditch attempt to manipulate/control him?
Yeah, I definitely have to think about this one...... I’ve always been a little conflicted about the idea that Connor was always supposed to deviate from the beginning. Although I accept it as canon, because I mean, it’s in the game so I guess I have to accept it as canon lmao, I do feel like....something about it takes a lot away from Connor’s character??? I mean like the main appeal of Connor is that he’s this state of the art machine who is programmed to hunt deviants, but when he himself actually deviates it goes to show that what you’re programmed to be isn’t what makes you you, and Connor is alive regardless of what his coding tells him. I don’t know, I like the idea that Connor deviated despite what his programming told him because of the people and situations around him, like befriending Hank and feeling compassion for animals and hesitating to kill deviants. To think that he was supposed to do those things all along just seems kinda.....disingenuous to me, which is why I find myself more attracted to the idea of Amanda manipulating Connor to believe that instead of it being actually true.
Because I can imagine that maybe, somewhere in Connor’s software, Cyberlife installed some sort of emergency switch, that on the off chance that our amazing one of a kind prototype deviant hunter actually becomes a deviant himself, we can take control of him. So although he wasn’t programmed to be deviant all along, they did allow the option of taking control if that were to happen. So when Connor does deviate, and that emergency switch is kicked on, Amanda knows that Connor is now experiencing all of these emotions that are incredibly new to him, so why not take this chance to mock him, make him believe that this is all his fault, and that becoming a deviant was never his choice. Imagine how powerless Connor would feel, and if he’s overwhelmed by these feelings then he’d probably have a hard time finding Kamski’s emergency exit right?? So I definitely think that Amanda was just trying to beat him down by saying that.
And if it is actually intended for Connor to turn deviant all along, I feel like that’s just poor writing on David Cage’s part lmao, because literally in this video, if Connor doesn’t do anything while he’s in the elevator at Cyberlife, and he reaches the 31st floor, Amanda talks about how Connor has “failed her” by turning deviant. So if he was supposed to deviate from the beginning, why would she say that???? Inchresting indeed, dont ya think, so a part of me believes that they added this “CoNnOr wAs SupPOsEd tO Be DeViAnt thE EnTiRe TiMe” at the end as like one last little plot twist to add suspense to what we thought would be the ending of the game
#my asks#detroit become human#dbh connor#connor#amanda#thank you for asking anon!!! yeah i really never liked the idea of connor being deviant the entire time#i think its much more appealing if amanda is lying and trying to beat him down in an already fragile moment#i love answering questions like these!!

The Yanderes As Horror Movie Villains
Slasher-thirst Tumblr is a wild place, but I would like to thank it personally for helping to inspire this post. I realize these are all debatable, but I hope I provided adequate enough arguments to explain everyone’s placement, please enjoy!
Connor: Buffalo Bill (Silence of the Lambs)
At a cursory glance of the two, one might come to the conclusion this is a man who follows the rules, one who appears just as normal and well-adapted as any other. However, bind closed doors; in private, it is only then that they would show there is much more to them than meets the eye.
Bill is described as “He wasn’t born a killer, he was made one.” This reflects the way Connor may have been created to serve a purely functional purpose for the benefit of humans through the events of his life, as well as through his own choices, he becomes something of his own making. He becomes an individual as a result of his own free will.
As a yandere, Connor would likely experience intense frustrations over being created as an android, and he couldn’t help but act out on these frustrations, maybe even taking some of this out on you. He wants to be what he fundamentally isn’t, and it kills him.
Markus: Micheal Myers (Halloween)
While there may be a bit of hesitance for Markus to decide which path he desires to pursue. (Be that pacifism or violence.) Once he has made up his mind, he will follow through without hesitation or a second thought. Quite similar to the way Micheal devotes his life to stalking his sister and completing his “unfinished business.”
While not precisely as bloodthirsty or ruthless as some of the other killers present, Micheal is far from squeamish and is just as capable of ending the life of his victims, or really any who get in his way as any other. And given a choice, Markus is equally competent in this regard.
As a yandere, Markus would really personify Meyer's chilling stalker side. He can easily play with you without making himself visible, maybe even without you noticing anything at all at first. He’s a tricky one to figure out, and even if you do think you understand him, it’s all the more difficult to convince others to see him as dangerous as you do.
Kara: Norman Bates (Psycho)
While she may initially pride herself on her ability to look after those under her care, God only knows what she’s capable of, should one cross her, or try to challenge her by hurting those she’s close to.
It’s practically within both of their DNA to latch onto what provides them with love. She wants above all things to keep those she loves safe, to never abandon them, or in other words, to never let them get away.
The two of them share a demeanor, which would suggest they are far weaker than they actually are. Norman acts particularly secretive and shifty around strangers, and Kara will generally function with her cards close to her chest, never really proving just how strong she is without a good reason to do so.
Hank: Freddy Kruger (A Nightmare on Elm Street)
This is a little tricky to explain, but if you view the events which play out in their story as a timeline, there is a massive connection between the two. At the start of their roles in the story, they worked hard to maintain (and even uplift) a positive reputation, however, due to one dramatic change. For Freddy, it’s the discovery of what he’d done to the children of the town, and for Hank, the loss of his son. Which change their lives and reputation forever. For Freddy, this results in the city burning him alive, and for Hank, this leads to a downward spiral of alcoholism, among other self-destructive habits.
Additionally, there’s a common theme of escapism, which connects the two. The way Freddy waits until his victims are asleep, and he has the chance to kill them in their sleep, while Hank’s life is changed by his reliance on alcohol to escape the tragedy of life, and to avoid his own feelings.
Once he eventually does find his passions again, though, be it falling in love with you or managing to re-discover his enthusiasm for his job Hank will peruse these with enthusiasm and passion equal to Freddy’s.
Luther: Pinhead (Hellraiser)
Even though Luther doesn’t hold onto his initially created purpose for long in the game, that doesn’t change the fact the two of them were designed to cause harm and evil. Though admittedly through very different paths, and scales.
Both are far more intelligent than they would likely admit. It’s interesting to note Luther knew how to handle himself well enough while in his master’s home so as not to fall victim to Zlatko’s sadism, but was also competent enough to know when he had a viable means of escape.
When it comes to getting his revenge on his master for the cruelty he caused, Luther doesn’t actually need to use violence to punish Zlatko. Leaving others to handle bringing him to justice, similarly to how Pinhead doesn’t need to use force as a way to intimidate or scare his victims.
North: Damien Thorn (The Omen)
There’s a theme that connects the two. However, this yields vastly different results for each character, respectively. The two fail to really understand their own strength, though, for Damien, this is on account of him undermining his abilities. While for North, this leads to her failure to be a proper leader for Jericho.
Deep down, as a yandere, North wouldn’t actually want to hurt you or give you any reason to fear or resent her. However, she just fails to understand humans in a fundamental way, which results in her accidentally bringing you harm again and again without learning her lesson.
She doesn’t really entirely seem to grasp or take accountability for the way her recklessness and impulsiveness will put others in danger. (The way a violent route can end with Markus getting shot and losing his life.) There’s no way she saw this coming, and only did what she did because she believed the ends would justify the means.
Simon: Rose Armitage (Get Out)
Say what you will about the way Rose betrays Chris at the end of the movie, from the very start she knows precisely where her true loyalties lay, and to the end, she does not compromise this.
Like many of the other androids fighting at Jericho, Simon wouldn’t be anyone’s first choice as a fighter. However, he is willing to prove, through either dying or surviving, he is far more capable than others saw him as. Rose definitely undergoes a change of her own and is far from the person the audience thought her to be at the start of the movie.
While in many ways, Simon would be the type to downplay his own voice and opinions in the name of preserving an overall peace, when it comes to what he has to say in regards to the more significant whole conflict, only then will he say how he really feels.
Josh: Carrie White (Carrie)
There’s a kind of bittersweet parallel which connects the two of them. That being, neither of them would intentionally go out of their way to hurt anyone, Josh, in fact, using most of his screen time to convince Markus from making violent decisions. Yet still, Carrie is eternally remembered for the deaths of her classmates, which died at her hands, and if Markus chooses to peruse violence, as an android, Josh will be remembered for his leader’s cruelty.
Likewise, as a yandere, Josh would hate to cause his love any kind of harm, or even really scare you too much, yet all the same, when pushed to his breaking point, he is just as willing and capable of inflicting pain as any other.
Many would say because of this, then deep down, they really always were this cruel and violent to their core. This is entirely false, however. Deep down, Josh wants nothing more than a happy and willing partner, one who desires to provide him with the love he would give you.
Kamski: Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)
While his innovation and ambition would do well for him in terms of his career, it’s not all it would result in. Many who work closely with Kamski would take discomfort with his icy, stony outer shell, and would at the least distrust him, and at most, detest him.
The two share incredibly high standards both for themselves, as well as for those around them. Kamski will always be remembered for his “test” he forced Connor to complete, and it’s far from a stretch to imagine he would try to force you to undergo some kind of similar test to prove your loyalty to him.
And of course, this is not even to mention their obsession with their own self-image and unclockable narcissism. Elijah’s pension for self-isolation likely a result of the way he feels too caught up with himself to bother sharing company with another; he deems “unworthy.”
Chloe: Jennifer (Jennifer's Body)
She was programmed to be a companion and a servant first and foremost. She was designed to be something which completed another, with any care for her own well being or inner desires left as an afterthought.
As a yandere, it’s interesting to imagine her using this to her own benefit. As in, she would use her own charm and good looks to convince you she means no harm, and after all, how could someone who appears so innocent be up to no good?
Jennifer, as a villain, uses her own good looks and charisma to ensnare her victims, and you can bet Chloe would follow in this lead. She knows how to uses people’s outer perceptions of her against them.
Gavin: Jack Torrance (The Shinning)
There’s not really anything shown of Gavin’s life outside of work, so it’s tricky to gauge what exactly his passions are, however, what is clear is the way once Gavin becomes genuinely passionate about something at work he becomes far more animated and interested in following them through.
In The Shining, Jack balances a deeply nerving combination of both a loving father and husband, and a murderer, and you know as a yandere, Gavin would act eerily similar as well. Just as threatening as he is loving, playing equally as your lover, as well as tormentor.
What is plain to see between the two of them is their absolutely self-serving attitude in regards to themselves, as well as how this extends to others. Gavin doesn’t care who he upsets, or who he steps on to get what he wants, and there’s nothing anyone else to can do about it.
Zlatko: Jigsaw (Saw)
It’s debatable and not precisely well elaborated in the game what it is that motivated Zlatko to be so cruel and evil to androids. However, he does appear interested in testing the limits of what androids are capable of, and what they can endure, persuading a truth Zlatko himself doesn’t quite fully understand. Which in a roundabout way isn’t too far off from Jigsaw.
In his eyes, there is no such thing as a genuinely innocent being, and no one, human or android alike, is free from his pain. This absolutely would extend to you as his lover.
Furthermore, as a yandere, Zlatko would use pain and would continually put you through intense agony as a way to try and chip away at your free will. His end game here would be something like trying to slowly weaken your resolve until you were just as loyal to him as Jigsaw’s followers are to their leader.
Ralph: Annie Wilkes (Misery)
While he may not exactly have Annie’s innocent face, still, Ralph wasn’t programmed to be anything more than a farmer, and because of that, people may not see a real reason to fear him at first.
Unfortunately, he was left traumatized and fundamentally shaken from an attack long ago, which causes his violent mood swings. He can be just as pleasant and happy with you, and he can be cruel and hurtful. Again, even though he may not want to bring you harm, Ralph doesn’t really understand his own actions here and can fall victim to his own anger every now and then.
Additionally, it’s challenging for Ralph to hide any pain or anxiety he feels on the inside, and it’s near impossible for him to stop himself from hurting you during an intense emotional outburst, even if he knows deep down he’ll likely regret this later.
Daniel: The Babadook (The Babadook)
Both of them almost serve as a metaphor for the possible damage which arises from trying to hide your inner pain and feeling from the ones you love. This damage hurting both the host and those around them in the cross-fire.
There is an intense fear Daniel possesses, the fear that if he ever were to be genuinely vulnerable with you or to really show you any of his weakness, then you would just leave him and know how much he relies on you.
A part of him might actually genuinely think it’s for the best to be like this. It’s hard for him to ever really, totally grasp the way his anger and resentment hurts him, and how he doesn’t have any real reason to fear being open with you.
Nines: Hannibal Lector (Silence of the Lambs)
In the single scene, we see of Nines in the game, we know he isn’t there for any kind of a positive reason. He was created to eliminate Connor and send him away fro good. Yet still, as he stands there, Nines is perfectly poised and doesn’t show any kind of outward hostility or malice towards Connor.
His chilling reputation precedes him. Nines is deeply analytical, never failing to notice even the smallest of details, and even if you can’t stand who he is as an individual, it’s easy to see how he earned the position he currently occupies.
As a yandere, he’s all the more analytical and terrifying. Because of that, he wouldn’t feel the need to use any displays of violence to cause you to fear him, and he knows as well as any other the effect he has on you.
