  “Have you seen Marya?”

        “No, have you? She’s supposed to go on soon.”

        Oh dear. Oh no no no. I don’t think I can do this. I’ve never- I-I-I can’t- why did I agree to this?

        “Marya?” The door creaked open and even though I didn’t move an inch, I could see Lily entering the washroom and approaching me from behind in the mirror. “There you are! Come on it’s almost time to go!”

        “I don’t know if I can do this, Lily… you know how I feel about speaking in front of large groups.” I said to her, letting out a deep sigh as she raised her hand to my shoulder and gave it a gentle pat.

        “I know, it’s not the easiest thing in the world, and I understand if you absolutely have to, but you shouldn’t run away from this now!” She grabbed my shoulders from behind and rested her chin on my shoulder. “Look, you prepared a lovely little speech about kindness and friendship and stuff, and you look so amazing that even if you did mess up – which you won’t – nobody would be paying attention to that!”

        Oh Lily… always the flatterer. Honestly, this girl would say that if I showed up in a trash bag. I appreciate her trying to make me feel better about it. I do, a little bit, but I’m still pretty unsure if I can calm my nerves enough to actually make it out there and through reading the award out. I mean, I prepared, I’ve gone through this a million times in my head, but I just… I’m not good in front of crowds. The only reason I accepted this offer was because Lily and the others insisted that it would be a perfect fit. “Who better to present an award on kindness than the sweetest girl around?” they said. Hm. Still…

        “Mar, you’re gonna be okay. Now, come on, let me see that smile,” Lily coaxed with her own goofy, lopsided grin. I glanced down at the papers in my hand; the small speech I had arranged in case I needed it (I did memorize it, but you can never be too safe), and an envelope with the winner’s name in that I haven’t opened yet (I’m not supposed to do that until I get up there). Lily’s thin fingers grabbed my chin and pulled my gaze back up to her, and I couldn’t help but smile back at her. She has that effect on me.

        “I guess it’ll be okay, it’s not like I haven’t done speeches and the like before,” I conceded with a small shrug. Lily’s smile widened, revealing her adorably crooked teeth. She giggled and pulled me in all of a sudden, giving me a short and sweet little kiss. Oh my goodness, I don’t know if that was more or less calming. I’ll go with more.

        “You’ll rock their socks off!” She said as she gave me a quick little squeeze, barely a hug but still just as comforting, and took my hand. “Now let’s get out there before you miss your cue.”

        She led me out of the washroom, where Rita and Isis were leaning against the wall waiting – Isis a little less patiently than Rita. Then again, she was still begrudging even having to be here, but I’m not sure why. It’s a lovely night to celebrate all of our friends, and to support Rita in their nomination, and on top of it all, she looks super duper pretty in her outfit. I love love love the flowy pants. I wish I could pull those off, but I think her height is a factor and that’s certainly something I haven’t got on my side.

        “It’s about time,” Isis muttered, and Rita punched her in the arm. She just rolled her eyes at them.

        “They just started the category before you, so I think you should probably get out backstage, Mar,” Rita said, jerking their thumb in the direction of the stage.

        I nodded slowly, and Lily leaned in to give me another little peck on the cheek. She, Rita and Isis finally took their leave, going to return to their seats in the audience, leaving me standing there alone in the hall. I was barely thinking about it, but my feet started to move down the other direction towards my destination, where I would wait for my turn to announce the winner of “Kindest Fandom Member”.

        The next five minutes were the longest of my life. Finally, after the winner for the category was announced, they accepted the award and the presenter approached me, I realized it was time. I took a deep breath and walked out on stage.

        “And now, to present the award for Kindest Fandom Member, please welcome Marya Samara!”

        “Thank you,” I began, plastering my best smile on my face as I spoke. “Now, as Pretty Cure and their allies, I’m sure every one of you,” I glanced at the snarling section of various antagonistic looking sorts, “er, most of you, understand the importance of being kind and caring to one another. We spend our days fighting for values such as love, friendship, and of course, kindness itself, so it is only natural that tonight we would be taking the time to recognize the kindness of those among us. I’m sure all the folks nominated here tonight are incredible and genuine people with lots of love in their hearts, but only one can go home with this award. Your nominees for this category include…”

I cleared my throat lightly before continuing. “I’m sure I don’t have to tell you all how important kindness is to have in this world, so I’m happy to be here to announce the person you all chose as the Kindest Fandom Member of 2016.”

        I lifted the envelope and slipped it open, sliding the announcement paper out of it and unfolding it.

      “And the winner is… MissMellifluous!”

Solstice Snowy, the powered up form of Cure Snowy that she can don once a year, on the winter solstice. It is in this form that her powers are their strongest. @fancuresupport's Winter Decor Art Contest gave me the excuse to design this outfit, but I will do the others too!!
