Ymir and Marco sibling headcanons:

Ymir is 2 years older than Marco

They're very close, like twins

They got matching undercuts when Marco turned 18. Ymir said it was a "right of passage" because she didn't want to admit that she wanted to match hair with her little brother before he left for college, even though it was only 2 hours away.

Speaking of college, Ymir visits him as often as she can, she'll pick him up from class and they'll go out to eat or to the mall or something, just to spend time together.

Ymir lovingly teases him for his taste in men, especially since he's currently dating Jean, his best friend since middle school, but she can't really talk because she's always been a simp for Historia.

Historia sets up double dates for herself, Ymir, Marco and Jean.

They were both called freckles by their cousin because he genuinely could not tell them apart for the longest time. Eventually, he was able to realize who was who.

They both tan very easily but their respective partners DO NOT.

Ymir always protected Marco from bullies and he would always treat any wounds she got.

Ymir is openly a little shit and it surprises people that Marco and her are siblings because they seem so different, but catch Marco on an off day, and he sounds just like her, profanity and all.

Ymir taught Marco to wrestle and fight growing up. He could easily knock out anyone who tried him, but he chooses not to.

Ymir and Marco has matching braided yarn bracelets they made as kids.

When Marco told Ymir that he and Jean were dating, she said "finally" and threatened Jean to not hurt her brother. He mentally shit himself, he was so scared.

Marco is one of the people Ymir respects and would do anything for.

Marco will call anyone out on their bs and Ymir will back him up. Marco is the talk and Ymir is the walk.

They're both kind of bitchy.

Ymir was always taller than Marco growing up but once theh hit puberty, they pretty much evened out their heights. Until, Marco grew a few inches during his Junior year. She was stuck at 5'8 and Marco shot up to 6'0.

Marco joked about majoring in law and order and becoming a criminal defense lawyer so he could keep her out of life jail sentences. He majors in forensic science instead, with a focus on criminal psychology.

Ymir is a housewife to Historia and she is quite happy. Marco teases her about it bc Ymir used to always claim, "no one will tether me to house work," yet, her she is. Turns out she's okay with being a home maker as long as it's with her lesbian lover.

Ymir and Marco made a sideshow to convince their mom to get them a dog when they were little. It worked. They got a golden retriever puppy and named her "Bowie," because she had a bow on her collar.

Marco had a situationship gone bad when he was a freshman in high school. Ymir enlisted the help of Jean to get revenge.

Ymir and Marco share their closets back home. People think they have matching shirts or sweaters but no, they just steal em from one another, back and forth.

Marco got called "brace face" one time in middle school and Ymir beat the kids ass so bad that he had to get braces. She was suspended and sent to anger management, but no one bothered Marco again. Anyone who did would be unfortunate.

Marco got into a fight one time and beat the guys ass so bad. He didn't even let him get up. Ymir was so proud.

Marco and Historia have "scary guard dog privileges" during their outingd with Jean and Ymir, but they can handle themselves just fine.

Marco had Reiner as a classmate in his English class during high school and Ymir bullied him so bad because he used to date Historia, before she came out as a lesbian, that is. Marco feels bad because he only had two friends and Marco is just a sweet guy.

Jobs Ymir quit = Jobs Ymir got fired from. She would tell Marco what places were worth applying for and which ones weren't.

They have the same nervous twitch. [Scratching under their right ear]

They're both not leaders, but they are good at organizing, revolts in Ymir’s case, and general crowds in Marco's case.

Ymir used to do ballet. She still does, but only in her spare time.

Marco taught himself to play electric bass because he had a crush on Pete Wentz, Fall Out Boys bassist.

Marco and Ymir are both huge into civil rights and are advocates.

Marco is good at comforting people, and Ymir is not. It's a running inside joke between them that no one else gets.

They watched Little Miss Sunshine together when it came out and they sobbed during it.

Total Drama Island 2023 Headcanons (Pool Day)

Priya is wearing a one-piece that is optimized for swimming the fastest, and a swim cap for speed. She practices swimming laps, then takes a break to beg Millie to get in the pool and play Marco Polo with her (they’re the only two playing).

Millie wears a simple one piece suit with one of those swimwear cover up robes on top. She doesn’t actively get into the pool, she just sits on the side of the pool and dips her feet in. Her main activity is just talking to Priya and reminding people to not run or splash in the pool too much. She will complain if you get her wet.

Ripper wears a pair of ratty cargo shorts. He doesn’t know how to swim very well, but will not admit it. He walks around with his chest puffed out like he is the hottest thing to ever grace the Earth, but anytime any man (especially Chase) happens to glance at him, he flips out. 

Damien wears a simple pair of swim shorts and forgoes his usual hat, though he complains frequently that he feels almost naked without it. He swims with Wayne for a bit, chats with Nichelle, and even briefly joins Priya’s game of Marco Polo. He honestly is just there to have a good time, though he becomes increasingly frustrated by Chase and Ripper trying to get him to referee their swimming matches.

Axel is the self-appointed lifeguard and patrols the pool in a wetsuit with a life preserver under her arm half the time. If someone falls in or seems to be in trouble she is immediately there to help, though her response time and gentleness is highly dependent on if she likes you or not. If Nichelle starts drowning she’s there in a split second, hefting her out of the water and treating her like a princess. If Ripper starts drowning she leisurely swims over, picks him up by the scruff of his neck, and tosses him onto dry land.

Chase wears a basic, solid colored pair of swim trunks and some douchey designer sunglasses. He walks out of the changing room/shower room thinking he’ll be the hottest shit there, and is quickly shown up by Wayne, Bowie, Raj, and Caleb just minding their own business. He spends his time eyeing up Emma, trying to show off, and yelling at Ripper that it’s gay to look at him.

Zee wears the same outfit they always wear, just without the hat and with a different prosthetic leg. Their swim leg is exactly the same as their main one, just covered in pink hibiscus flower decals to make it swimming themed. They spend most of their time at the pool hanging out with Emma chatting and back floating around lazily. At the end of the day they just air dry by lounging on a pool chair, instead of changing into new clothes or using a towel. 

Scary Girl wears a simple black bikini, but adds to it by covering herself in large chains and a small anchor that hangs by her feet. People can’t tell if the chains are real or fake, until Ripper starts drowning and she uses the chains and anchor to pull him onto dry land. Ripper avoids swimming in the deep end after that, as he doesn’t want any more bruises on him from the anchor.

Caleb wears a speedo, not to show off but because it’s better for swimming. Julia eyes him up the entire time, but he completely ignores her. Man just wants to swim laps in peace.

Nichelle wears a cute, understated bikini. She doesn’t know how to swim because her handlers haven’t let her learn. Bowie tries to teach her, and when she starts to freak out a little bit, Axel is immediately in the pool to save her. She fakes little freak outs a few more times just to get Axel to come and save her. 

Julia wears an extremely expensive, flashy bikini that shows practically everything. She actively looks for attention by bending over in front of as many men as possible and takes an obscene amount of selfies. Chase and Ripper are the only two that pay her any attention. She slathers on sunscreen, not because she’s scared of cancer, but because she’s scared of aging. She also refuses to get her hair wet - chlorine will ruin her bleach job. 

Bowie wears super cute short shorts and a crop top. He spends his time wading in the shallow end with Raj, gossiping by the side of the pool with Emma, and teaching Nichelle how to swim. He also tries to avoid getting his hair wet, he did pay a lot to get it done after all. 

Wayne simply wears a pair of cargo shorts and his usual hat. He spends most of his time at the pool running around with Raj, doing cannonballs and racing with anyone he can. Occasionally he goes off to get himself a drink while Raj and Bowie talk, but after a while he always ends up back at Raj’s side waiting for his buddy to be ready to hang out with him again. 

Raj splits his time as evenly as he can between hanging out with his boyfriend, and hanging out with his best friend. When with Bowie he mainly chats, flirts, shares fruity drinks, and idly cheers Bowie on as Bowie swims. When it’s his time to hang out with Wayne though, he becomes a poolside nightmare. He and Wayne practice diving, start splash fights, and play mermaids for ages- occasionally roping Priya, Zee, and Nichelle into their games. By the end of the day Raj is completely drained but happy, and spends a while in a pool chair with Bowie just relaxing.

Emma wears a modest two piece, similar to the style that Taylor Swift wears. She usually goes for a one-piece, but feels the need to show that she’s hot without Chase too. However, she doesn’t like to push herself too far out of her comfort zone. Bowie hypes her up, and Chase tries to chime in but just objectifies her. Zee compliments her bathing suit, and she compliments their swimming leg, and Emma plays up their flirting a little bit to show off in front of Chase. 

MK wears swim shorts and a swim top. They’re mismatched - she just swiped the easiest ones to steal from Urban Outfitters. She wears a scuba mask and swims around near the bottom of the pool looking for things that others have dropped, and she ends up seeing a little bit too much of Julia in the process. She’s able to swipe some things from Zee because they’re just wearing their normal clothes, including everything they normally carry with them (soda, a lighter, a pipe, some loose change, a rubber duck, and a concert ticket from 1983).

"Marco, if you don't stop messing with that needle-"

"I'm not!" Marco screeches in defence from behind his new porn stache, lifting his hands up in a surrendered position when Harry saunters over to his new record player and stands in front of it protectively. You giggle quietly at their behaviour, squinting as you watch the boys squabble from the patio doors. Harry had saved money from his first released record to buy this Technics player, so he was feeling precious about it. He'd only really let you fiddle with it, but you always saw him monitoring you over your shoulder.

Melanie stalks down the rich oak stairs in her new bootleg jeans she found in a small charity shop back home, her worn down guitar in hand and a notebook. She wrote the best songs on her oldest guitar. You'd said to Harry a few years ago that you believed everyone's instrument is supernaturally bound to them in some way. You were both pretty high at time.

"God, Melanie. I miss my jeans so much." You whine.

"As if you're not looking unbelievably sexy on that garden chair over there. Marco, here, come and get the gorgeous pregnant woman a drink, would you?" Melanie replies, leaning to kiss you on the cheek and propping her things on the cream sofas. She snatches her scarf from over the lamp in the living room and ties it around her neck.

"Is this gorgeous pregnant woman in the room with us?- Ow! I'm messing, you miserable old sod." Marco sends you a wink but is quickly reprimanded by a swat to the head by your man, who was intensely inspecting his Bowie vinyl for scratches. You quietly giggle, knowing yours and Marco's relationship was playful and unserious, though you really liked Harry's protectiveness.

"Talk bad about my missus again and I'll rip that monstrosity clean off." Harry points to Marco's moustache before patting his cheek heavily, looking over at you with a glint in his eye. You grin, pretending that didn't make you slightly turned on. You were pregnant, it was hard not to be turned on by anything Harry did. Especially when he was wearing his maroon corduroy trousers and just a tank top, cigarette hanging from his lips and a glass of whiskey in the other. Your hand rests over your bump covered by an airy white summer dress, and Harry looks at you from across the room like you hung every star in the sky.

Marco appears by your side with a cloudy lemonade and you smile, grabbing his hand in a thank you and shifting on your garden chair to feel more comfortable. Harry had rented this place for your stay in Malibu whilst you, him and the rest of the band wrote their new album, but sometimes you secretly wished you could live here forever. Large veranda doors that open wide to let the setting sun in, beautiful oak walls and avocado coloured marble on the kitchen floor. You could sit and write every day here.

"What's on your mind, my pretty lady?" Harry's deep voice is smooth like treacle in your ears. You glance over to where he's situating himself on the other outdoor chair, stubbing out his cigarette now that he's next to you. Opal coloured sunglasses cover his eyes, and his hair remains slightly more grown out than usual. He always looked like this when he wasn't doing shows, kind of rugged, rockstar-ish. You loved it.

"I love this house, so much." You breathe. He grasps your hand and kisses it softly, holding it there as he sighs contentedly, glancing over at the skyline and the sun creeping behind. An orange glow sets over the small house and you smile, observing Marco and Melanie trying to light the old barbecue that must have been at least ten years old. Harry's hand creeps up your leg under your white summer dress, slipping it over his knee so he can run his hand up and down - brushing over your ankles every so often.

"How the fuck do you where these when you're pregnant?" He fiddles with the strap of your brown wedged heels.

"Just 'cause I'm pregnant doesn't mean I can't still dress nicely. You know, I found a column in the paper back home by this young'un called Sophie Clark. She writes little fashion pieces at college. She's dedicated a section to me every week. 'The stylish lead starlet of The Saffron'. I need to keep up appearances." You muse, fiddling with the large thin hoop earrings that Harry had gifted you just the day before.

He leans down and kisses your shin, before travelling his hand to your bump unconsciously. "I know. I read it sometimes when you're away at your writing sessions back home and I can't see you. Need to know what you're wearing so I can picture taking it off you--"

You give him a knowing look, and he closes his mouth immediately with a mischievous look. His hand moves in gentle circles over your stomach and you revel in the feeling. It quite literally could not get any better than this. A warm, summer evening in California, the smell of incense coming from inside the house. The hum of The Mamas and Papas travelling from the turntable speakers.

"We're gonna write some good shit here, guys." You inhale. Harry hums and reaches for his notepad on the ground next to the chair, flipping it open and writing something down pensively.

"You found a muse already?" You try and peek and he laughs, slamming the leather bound book shut and grabbing your hand to plant a kiss.

"Just feeling inspired. Entranced. In love." He murmurs and closes his eyes, "I've got all of my muse right here in my hand."

Derek Boshier (British, 1937-2024)

'There’s a funny sort of feeling you get, as if change is a sin. But now I see that’s what I’m about, I’m an artist that does change.’

Born in Portsmouth in 1937 Derek Boshier first came to prominence with his paintings as a student at the Royal College of Art in London where he studied alongside David Hockney, Allen Jones, R.B. Kitaj, and others. Embracing the iconography of British and American mass culture, his paintings earned him recognition as one of the pioneers of British Pop Art. In 1962, he was featured with Peter Blake, Pauline Boty and Peter Phillips in Ken Russell's BBC documentary 'Pop Goes The Easel'. Subsequently he has used other media:drawing, printmaking, film, books, three dimensional objects, installations and photography among them. His graphic work with popular music groups such as The Clash and with David Bowie have brought his work to a wider audience.

Works by Derek Boshier can be found in major museum collections including Tate, The British Museum and the V&A. He lives and works in Los Angeles.

'Derek Boshier brought to British Pop a strong satirical edge which distinguished his work from that of his fellow students at the Royal College of Art. His paintings of 1961-62 made frequent reference to current events, especially those with a political dimension such as the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union. Consumer products such as Pepsi-Cola appeared not in celebration of modern popular culture but as evidence of the insidious inroads of international businesses and Americanisation. SA group of paintings in 1962 prompted by the campaign for a new striped toothpaste examined manipulative forces of advertising and the loss of individual identity that this brought in it’s wake. Boshier’s caustic views about the mass media, and his characteristic ‘custom-built men’ – figures that appear to be cut out, pieced together as in jig-saw puzzle or in the process of disintegration – arose directly from his reading of commentators such as Marshall McLuhan, Vance Packard and John Kenneth Galbraith. Boshier’s Pop phase was short lived. The paintings that he produced in India during 1962-63, virtually all of which were accidentally destroyed near the end of his stay there, adapted similar narrative devices to Hindu symbolism. On his return to England he painted briefly in a formal abstract idiom before turning to Minimalist sculpture and later photography, film and collage. Always curious to experiment different media, he nevertheless maintained a strong involvement through the seventies with political and social themes. In 1979 he returned to painting as his prime activity, at first basing the pictures on images from advertising and the mass media, as he had done in his early Pop pictures and in his more recent collages. In 1980 he moved to Huston, Texas, where he at once found a rich fund of new imagery in his immediate environment. A series of paintings depicting naked cowboys were amongst his most amusing and memorable responses to his new home. During the whole of that decade, prior to his return to England, he elaborated his new iconography with humour and affection but also with the distance and wry observations of a foreigner. The American themes of Boshier’s first phase as a Pop artist thus reappeared 2 decades later in a new guise, coloured by personal experience. In the late nineties Boshier again resettled in the US, this time in Los Angeles, where he made paintings that took up themes and images from his formative Pop works.'

Tender is the Flesh surrounds a dystopian society in which a virus has contaminated all animal meat. Because of the lack of animal flesh, cannibalism becomes legal. The protagonist, Marcos, a human meat supplier, hates his job and is repulsed by the society in which he lives. Due to the new economy in place though, Marcos has no choice but to accept the conditions to survive in this grotesque world.

The first thing I will say about this novel is that for the slightly weak stomach-ed audience, I would definitely choose another book for the spooky season. Bazterrica certainly doesn’t shy away from gory details, immense dehumanization, and veiled darker themes such as human greed and corruption regarding capitalism. But for those with a stronger stomach, it’s this seedy underbelly of the novel that makes it such a profound and incredibly genius story. As a personal fan of dystopian fiction, Tender is the Flesh is a perfect example of an unsettling and intelligent story wrapped in a neat macabre bow.

The lyrics detail the grotesque actions of dismemberment perfectly embodying the legal crimes committed and that’re the premise for the novel.

Eat Your Young By Hozier:

Just as the title suggests, the song is about eating your young and more specifically ways to “spice it up”. Although the actual song is based on a poem about the ignorance of violence, I can imagine the song being written and performed by Marcos in the world of Tender is the flesh for its lyrics and feel.

Arsonists Lullaby By Hozier:

Although no one is necessarily an arsonist, the song’s lyrics even say “You soon find you have few choices, I learned soon the voices died with me”. This could be interpreted as how limited to zero choices Marcos had in terms of making a living and how he felt he was the only one aware of the atrocities.

Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads:

Through its unconventional sound, the talking heads depict a mood for the story that is very fitting. In addition, the song talks about a person who’s anxious and can’t be relaxed, then saying psycho killer. They may be referring to the same individual which could be Marcos.

The Man Who Sold The World by David Bowie and performed by Nirvana:

The song details a possibly apocalyptic setting where the man speaking has reached the highest peak that can he reach for man regarding wealth and position. In this case, not only does it refer to the underlying theme of capitalism in the novel, but it also represents Marcos’s self-awareness and triumph over others.

Eyes Without A Face by Billy Idol:

Simply the title: not only does it give the story a peculiar vibe to it, but it also demonstrates the idea of dehumanization with “Eyes Without a Face”. There are remnants of the person left but no identities.

DnDads Halloween Week 2k23

Day 1: Watching horror movies

Okay, so I’m giving up getting this finished today, but I’m gonna post what I have so far! It’s a gothcleats date night where they watch a beloved creepy kids film together.

(Tentatively titled) Too Close to Home

They’d been planning on going to a fancy restaurant together for their one year anniversary, but about an hour before they were going to leave Linc had received an email regrettably informing them the restaurant had lost power in the storm, and wouldn’t be up again until tomorrow. Lincoln had been relieved — the place wasn’t really his style — and when he’d told Scary she’d looked relieved too.

“Sorry,” Linc had said. “Do you want to head home, or…?”

She’d scoffed. “No? It’s our anniversary?”

Our anniversary. He loved the sound of that. “Well, we could watch a movie?”

Scary’s eyes shone at that. “Ooh, something spooky?”

“Well, we don’t really have horror movies…”

“I didn’t say horror, you dork,” she said affectionately. “Spooky. Like Over the Garden Wall. Man, I love that show. Those pumpkin freaks? Pure nightmare fuel.”

Linc led her over to his family’s DVD collection - Marco had a thing for physical media - and had a quick flip through. Nightmare Before Christmas? No. Paranorman?Nah. Corpse Bride? Maybe. Labyrinth? He moved his body in the way of that film so she wouldn’t spot it — they’d tried to watch it together once before and Linc had found himself getting more jealous as the film went on, because of the way Scary was glued to the screen each time David Bowie and his stupid tight pants were on screen. Not that he could fully blame her…

Then he spotted it. “Coraline!” He pulled it off the shelf and showed it to Scary. “What do you think?”

She looked blank. “Never seen it.”

“What?! I love this film, super creepy.”

She smirked at him. “Is there an orange cat in it?”

“No! …A black one…”

She laughed. “Okay, sold.”

Linc slipped the DVD into the player then they cuddled down together on the couch as the haunting opening of the film began. He could feel Scary beside him, watching awed as the doll was altered to turn into the girl on the cover — blue hair, a yellow raincoat.

She sat, silent and rapt for so long…until Coraline found herself in the Other World and met the Other Mother and Other Father, at which point Linc felt her stiffen beside him. And as the film went on she seemed more and more tense. Lincoln had no idea what went wrong - he was sure she’d love this film, it was edgy and dark and was made in the “coolest animation style ever” (Taylor hadn’t spoken to Scary for a month after she’d declared that). He didn’t know what to do - she hated it when he made decisions for her, and she hadn’t said she wanted them to turn the film off yet.

But then the Other Mother revealed her true colours, and Scary made a small, anguished sound, and Linc decided to call it. He paused the film and turned to her. “Are you okay?”

She didn’t answer for a second, just staring at the screen. Linc winced when he realises it was paused on a shot of the skeletal form of the Beldam, grinning viciously, hands reaching for the girl with dyed hair.

She pulled her knees up to her chest and tugged the shirt down over them - Linc tried not to wince at how that would stretch his shirt. “I just…it hit too close to home, alright?”

“In what way?”

Scary looked like she wanted to die rather than admit it. She waved a hand vaguely at the screen. “An angry mom, a pathetic dad…people changing. Becoming worse. I don’t know, man.”
