Chapter 3 - Tea and confessions
Daniel, the White Knight, was returning to the castle after a long mission. His armour glittered in the moonlight, and his white cloak billowed with every firm step he took.
As he reached the castle gates, Daniel noticed unusual activity. The guards seemed more tense than usual, and the atmosphere was charged with a palpable unease.
As he rounded the corner, he found two guards guarding the kitchen door; he knew it was Skye, for the kitchen was one of the few places where the princess found peace and calm in the palace. Their stances were rigid, and their gazes watchful. Daniel stopped in front of them, his presence imposing and his gaze steady.
"Good evening, knights. You can retire to rest. I'll take it from here"
The guards exchanged glances, hesitating for a moment.
"Sire, the Queen has ordered us to watch the princess wherever she goes"
Daniel nodded, understanding the situation. "I understand, but I'll take care of it. The princess is safe with me"
The guards finally relented, bowing their heads in respect before retreating. Daniel watched them walk away, making sure no one else was left in the hallway. Then he walked over to the kitchen door and carefully opened it.
The kitchen of the White Kingdom was a place of breathtaking beauty and elegance. The walls were lined with white marble, with grey veins that seemed to dance in the light of the crystal chandeliers. The floor, also of marble, reflected the light of the chandeliers, creating a luminous and serene atmosphere. The countertops were of an even purer marble, immaculate and gleaming, as if they had never been touched by human hands.
Cabinets, white wood carved with intricate floral designs, lined the walls, providing a delicate contrast to the marble. The cabinet handles were silver, polished to shine like little mirrors. In the centre of the kitchen, a large marble island served as a workspace, surrounded by high stools with white velvet cushions.
The air was permeated with the scent of fresh herbs and spices, stored in glass jars lined up on open shelves. Copper and stainless steel cooking utensils hung neatly from hooks on the wall, ready for use. The kitchen was a place of constant activity, but at the moment, it was silent except for the soft crackle of the fire in the fireplace.
Skye was sitting at one of the tables, her head resting on her hands. The calm of the kitchen was a haven for her, a place where she could escape the stresses of the palace. But her peace was interrupted when she heard the door open.
"I strictly asked not to be disturbed"
"You don't even want to greet your knight?"
Skye lifted her head, and upon seeing Daniel, a smile tugged at her lips. "Daniel, you're back" she said, but Daniel immediately noticed the mark on her cheek, a sign of the recent altercation with her mother. His expression hardened.
Everyone in the palace had witnessed, at one time or another, the White Queen's treatment to her daughter. Servants whispered in the corridors, and guards exchanged sympathetic glances when they saw Skye. The pressure of being the perfect heiress had scarred her soul, and at times, her body as well.
Daniel approached her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "What happened?"
Skye averted her gaze, trying to hide her pain. "It's nothing, Daniel. Just another argument"
Daniel vividly remembered the day the Queen knighted him as Skye's knight. At first, the princess barely spoke to him, keeping a cool, reserved distance. Over time, however, Daniel managed to break through that barrier, showing Skye that he didn't care about the perfection everyone expected of her. In him, Skye found a friend, someone who accepted her imperfections and valued her for who she really was.
Now, Daniel felt caught in a whirlwind of helplessness. His mission as a knight was to protect Skye at all costs, but how could he protect her from the same person to whom he had sworn loyalty?
The next day, Bridget's mind couldn't stop flashing back to her nighttime encounter with Skye.
How they danced to the music, how their bodies seemed to coordinate in a magical way, and how they were about to share their first kiss.
In that instant, Bridget let herself be carried away by the impulse, by that invisible thread that pulled her lips to Skye's, who didn't seem to dislike the idea either. And then the Cheshire cat appeared, Bridget couldn't help but smile at the look on Skye's face, clearly disappointed by the interruption.
And then came the promise of a second meeting, at the place where they first met, which made Bridget excited.
What are you planning Skye?
"What gardens is your mind stuck in, sweetheart?"
Bridget snapped out of her thoughts at her mother's question, blushing. "Nothing I was just thinking about the dance yesterday mum," Bridget replied. Her mother smiled.
"I guess it all went well in the end," said her mother and a big smile formed on Bridget's face. "It was amazing! You should have seen her mum, she looked spectacular, everything was just spectacular" Bridget replied excitedly, which warmed her mother's heart.
"Well, you'll have to introduce me to that secret date you're so excited about, it would be a pleasure to meet her," Bridget's smile faltered for a moment, she looked at her mother, whose gaze reflected something Bridget couldn't quite identify, as if she already knew about Skye. No, Bridget shook her head dismissing the thought, it wasn't possible.
"Yeah... I'm sure you'll love it..." Bridget replied, trying to sound as normal as possible. Her mother wanted to meet her date, she wanted to meet Skye. There was no possible way this was going to end well, what was she supposed to say to her when they saw her, it was clear that Skye's appearance, her pale skin, her white hair, did not belong to a citizen of the Kingdom of Hearts.
"Mom this is Skye, the daughter of the White Queen, your greatest enemy, I met her in the forest near the border, as she likes to cross the wall and enter our kingdom" and also, "I invited her to your ball and we danced in front of the pond, she sneaked into the castle avoiding the guards and tomorrow I'm meeting her again"
There was no possible way Bridget would dare tell her mother the truth about Skye's identity.
"That's why I wanted to ask your permission, to meet her tomorrow, and I would like to well, be able to be with her without the guards" she said, Bridget didn't dare sneak out of the castle, she would rather risk asking her mother for the favour of leaving the castle unescorted.
Her mother frowned, she clearly didn't like her daughter's request, but she seemed to be mulling over her decision. "I don't know sweetheart, I don't like the idea of you leaving the castle unguarded, it could be dangerous" replied her mother, Bridget pouted.
"Please mum" Bridget pleaded. "We can't both be comfortable if I have guards following us, I want us both to be able to spend time alone"
Her mother watched her carefully, her eyes reflecting a mixture of concern and understanding. She already knew the truth, she had stepped out into the garden for a moment to get some fresh air, when she saw her daughter dancing with a young girl.
She watched from a distance, hidden in the shadows. Her gaze hardened as she recognised Skye White, the daughter of her enemy, in her castle, in her kingdom. The initial impulse was to call the guards and have her caught immediately. But something stopped her.
As the two young women danced, her mother noticed the way they looked at each other, how their bodies moved in perfect synchronicity, as if they were made for each other. The hardness in her heart began to soften as she saw the glint of love in her daughter's eyes. As much hatred and resentment as she held for the White Queen, she could not ignore the happiness that radiated from Bridget in that moment.
Her mother knew she could not blame Skye for her mother's actions. She decided, in that instant, to prioritize her daughter's happiness over her own bitterness. However, she promised herself that if Skye hurt Bridget, she would not hesitate to act.
"All right, you have my permission, but I want you back at the palace by dinnertime"
Bridget's face lit up. She stood up, rounded the dining room table and hugged her mother tightly. "Thank you!" she said before letting go of her mother and running to her room, as her mother smiled warmly.
I hope for your sake Skye that you know how to appreciate my daughter.
After the conversation with her mother, time seemed to pass faster for Bridget, so much so that night had already fallen over Wonderland.
Bridget was about to crawl into bed when she heard three knocks on the balcony door of her room, confused, she approached the glass door, only to discover that on the other side was a floating envelope.
Bridget opened the door and the envelope came into the room.
"Special delivery for the princess," Bridget was surprised when the Cheshire cat appeared in front of her, holding the envelope.
"It's you," Bridget said, the cat's smile grew bigger, which made Bridget's skin crawl for a second.
"I'm Chessur, but you can call me Chess. Skye asked me to deliver this letter to you," he said, Bridget took the envelope, and in a second, Chessur disappeared, leaving a faint trail of smoke.
Bridget sat down on her bed and looked at the letter, it looked like a normal envelope, except that it was stamped with a seal with the initials SW. Bridget opened the envelope and read the contents of the letter.
Princess,
I hope Chess didn't disturb you too much by delivering this letter, I would have liked to tell you in person, but my mother has me under the watchful eye of her guards, and I couldn't risk crossing the border.
About our meeting tomorrow, meet me half an hour before the clock strikes teatime.
I want to see you again already.
Skye.
"I realise you love adventure and danger, but this is too much, even for you Skye"
Skye couldn't help but roll her eyes at Tarrant's response. She doesn't even know why for a moment she trusted Chess not to say anything, but he did, and as a result, she was now being sermonised by the Mad Hatter.
She and Daniel had gone to visit him at his home, Tarrant lived on the outskirts of town, far from the people and the perfection the queen demanded. That was one of the many reasons he quickly became friends with the rebellious princess, they both defied the written rules, but Skye was happy that her mother allowed Tarrant to be outside of her perfection, even if she sometimes envied it.
Tarrant's workshop was filled with hats of all shapes and sizes, and the air smelled of tea and madness.
Not a minute had passed since the tea had been served that he began to sermonise to her. Skye took a sip of her tea before looking out the window at the 5 chess soldiers keeping watch outside the workshop.
"First of all, keep your voice down please. If they hear you, my mother will find out and I may as well be dead, Tarrant. You don't understand what this means to me," he said. Tarrant stopped his frantic pacing and sat down in his usual chair next to Skye.
"You're okay with this?", Tarrant looked at Daniel, who remained standing next to Skye despite attempts to get him to sit down to make himself more comfortable.
Daniel sighed. When Skye filled him in on the latest events in her life, he didn't even know why he was surprised. He knew Skye too well to know that despite her constant pursuit of danger, she wouldn't go into such danger if she didn't think it was worth it. To him Skye's happiness was above any oath or duty as a knight, and he knew Skye would not find happiness in the White Kingdom.
"Even if I didn't agree, Hatter. Do you think even I could do anything to stop it?" he replied, which made Skye smile innocently, as if it wasn't her life at stake.
"Skye, I know living here is complicated, especially with your mother and her rules, but seriously. Of all the people you could date, the princess of hearts? It's bad enough that I have to have your back on your escapades across the border," she said, picking up her teacup, which was shaking from her nerves. Skye sighed.
"You can't tell anyone Tarrant, it's bad enough I have to let Chess know" Skye asked, Tarrant watched her, hesitating about what to do.
"Skye, this is very serious, much more serious than crossing the border"
Tarrant looked at her with concern. "I should warn your mother. She needs to know"
Skye could feel Daniel tense beside her, even he was unable to imagine what the queen would do to Skye if she discovered the truth, and if to protect her she had to.... Well, eliminate some trouble. He wouldn't hesitate to do so.
"No, Tarrant. If my mother finds out, it's all over. She'll never let me leave the castle again"
Tarrant frowned, clearly conflicted. "Why is it so important to you, Skye?"
"What I feel with Bridget is nothing I've ever felt before. It's something real. I feel like I'm finally in control of something in my life. I can't lose this, Tarrant"
He watched her silently, seeing the sincerity in her eyes. Finally, he sighed and nodded. "All right, Skye. I'll keep your secret, but if this is serious, you'd better start thinking about how you're going to tell your mother that her daughter's mother-in-law is the Queen of Hearts"
Skye couldn't help but laugh, no doubt that wouldn't be easy, but she was content to keep it a secret for the time being. "Thank you, Tarrant. You'll meet her tomorrow. I'll bring her over so we can all have tea together"
Tarrant smiled, though his concern did not entirely disappear. "I hope you know what you're doing, Skye"
Skye nodded, determined. "I know, Tarrant. I know"
Bridget walked briskly through the forest near the border, her heart pounding. The afternoon sun filtered through the leaves of the trees, creating a play of light and shadow on the stone path. The place where she had met Skye was just around the corner, and the princess couldn't help but smile at the thought of seeing her again.
The scent of spring flowers filled the air, and Bridget paused for a moment to inhale deeply. She remembered every detail of that encounter: Skye's laughter, her gaze shining, and the way her words had made the world seem brighter. She hadn't stopped thinking about her since.
When she arrived, however, she didn't find Skye alone. Beside her, a majestic white horse glistened in the sun, its silver armour glinting like stars in the night.
Bridget stared at the horse in awe. She had never seen such an imposing and beautiful creature. The combination of the armour and the purity of the white coat seemed like magic. Skye, with her mischievous smile, approached Bridget.
Bridget felt a knot in her stomach at the sight of the reddish mark on Skye's cheek. The princess of the White Kingdom, always so strong and confident, now showed a vulnerability Bridget had never seen before. Who could be capable of hurting Skye?
Bridget felt a surge of protectiveness and affection for her. She wanted to hold her, to comfort her, and to make sure she never had to suffer again. The mark on Skye's cheek was a painful reminder that even the strongest people could be hurt, and Bridget was determined to stand by her side, no matter what.
"If I'd known Star would steal all your attention, I'd have thought twice about bringing her along," Skye said, a spark of amusement in her eyes. Bridget couldn't help but smile.
The horse whinnied softly, as if it, too, recognised Bridget. The princess reached out to stroke its soft mane. "I never imagined I'd find something so beautiful here," she murmured.
Skye moved even closer, her hand brushing Bridget's. "Sometimes the most beautiful things are right in front of us," Skye said, which made Bridget blush. "Ready for a new adventure?"
Skye mounted the horse, waiting for Bridget. "The truth is...I don't know how to ride," Bridget confessed.
Skye smiled, holding out her hand to Bridget. "Don't worry," she whispered. "I won't let you fall" Bridget nodded, feeling the warmth of the promise in the palm of her hand.
Carefully, Skye helped Bridget onto the horse, placing her in front of her. The animal's white fur was soft under her trembling fingers. "Ready?" asked Skye.
Bridget nodded. The wind rustled through the leaves of the trees as the horse began to move.
"Now you must close your eyes, cupcake," said Skye, "otherwise the surprise will be spoiled"
Bridget obeyed. The world faded away, and only the sensation of the horse moving beneath her remained. Skye guided her expertly, and Bridget held on to her promise.
The horse galloped into the hollow of the border, and Bridget smiled, allowing herself to relax and rest her back against Skye's chest, noticing how she smelled of vanilla and mint, an intoxicating mixture.
Time in the dark stretched like a silken thread, and Bridget felt uncertainty curl in her chest. The air grew colder, and the muffled sound of the horse's hooves echoed in her ears; they were picking up speed.
Then Skye's voice broke the silence. "You can open your eyes now, princess"
Bridget blinked, her heart pounding. When her eyes met the light, her breath caught for the third time that week.
The path of white roses stretched out before Bridget like a dreamy path. On either side, fields of white roses spread out as far as the eye could see.
The flowers, like snowflakes, rise on slender stems. Their soft, snowy petals catch the sunlight, creating an ethereal glow. Each rose seems a small universe unto itself: delicate, yet resilient. The intoxicating scent floats in the air, enveloping Bridget like a warm embrace.
The path meanders, inviting her to explore further. The roses intertwine, forming a white tapestry that seems to merge with the sky. Some are in full bloom, while others are still shyly awakening. The wind whispers secrets among the petals, and Bridget feels she has crossed into a kingdom where time fades.
"Welcome to the White Kingdom," Skye said, her voice soft as a caress.
Bridget could barely articulate words. "It's... it's beautiful," she whispered.
The white horse, guided by Skye, turned off the rose path and into a dense forest. The trees seemed to whisper ancient secrets, and sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a play of shadows on the ground.
The air grew cooler, and the sense of the unknown filled her with anticipation.
Finally, they emerged from the trees Before her stood a house shaped like a top hat, like something out of a twisted fairy tale. The roof was pitched, the windows of different sizes and shapes.
A place where time bent and normal rules didn't apply. The walls were painted in vibrant colours, and in the garden, a large table held teapots and singing cups. The scent of tea and madness hung in the air.
"I hope you don't mind if we have tea with some friends of mine before I show you my second surprise," said Skye getting off her horse. She held out her hand to help Bridget down. ""It would be my pleasure,"" she replied before taking Skye's hand and getting off the horse.
Skye led Bridget to the table, where Chessur, Tarrant and Daniel were waiting for her. Skye found the scene quite funny, Chessur was over Daniel's head, obviously trying to annoy him, Daniel had a look of wanting to make the cat disappear while Tarrant was busy making tea.
"Can't you even behave for a moment, Chess?" Skye said smirking. All three boys raised their heads to look at them.
"Guys, this is Bridget. Bridget, this is Daniel, my knight, Tarrant, the mad hatter, and well, you know Chess," said Skye. Bridget raised a shy smile. Tarrant rose from the table, and removing his top hat, did a graceful curtsy. "A pleasure to meet you, your highness," he said. Bridget smiled, "No need for formalities, just Bridget," she said.
Tarrant nodded before going back to preparing the tea. "I hope you like mint tea, well, it's not like there are any other kinds of tea here either," Tarrant said before pouring the tea into five cups.
Skye guided Bridget to a white wooden chair next to hers. Daniel sat across from them, and as always, Tarrant presided over the table.
Daniel watched Bridget with a mixture of distrust and curiosity. He had heard a lot about her, but seeing her in person was different. There was something about her presence that unsettled him, though he couldn't identify exactly what it was. However, he remembered Skye's words: Bridget was not a danger, and if she made her happy, he could only accept that.
Despite his reservations, Daniel decided to trust Skye's judgment. If she believed in Bridget, so should he. He watched as the two princesses interacted, noting the genuine connection between them. Though he still felt a slight mistrust, Daniel realized that his loyalty to Skye meant accepting Bridget into his life. And if that meant protecting her as well, he was willing to do that.
"Don't let Daniel intimidate you, despite his tough looks and that armor that shines too bright, he's a softie," Skye said, which made Bridget laugh. Daniel rolled his eyes.
"You Bridget, don't let Skye confuse you, despite looking tough on the outside, she's a softie" said Daniel, Skye smiled.
"We'll see if you say the same to my sword" challenged Skye.
"Anytime princess"
"Well, before this turns into a battlefield, let's have tea before it gets cold," said Tarrant.
The afternoon passed in a dreamy atmosphere in the Mad Hatter's House. The scent of freshly brewed tea filled the air, mingling with the sweet perfume of the white roses that surrounded the place.
Tarrant, with his trademark hat and mischievous smile, began to tell stories of Skye's childhood. "Did you know that Skye used to hide in the cupboards to avoid her lessons in manners?" he said, winking at Bridget. "Once, we found her asleep in the coats""
Bridget laughed, imagining a young Skye rebelling against the strict palace rules. Skye, her cheeks flushed, tried to defend herself. "That was a long time ago! And besides, the lessons were boring"
"What about the time you tried to ride Star and ended up in the pond?" continued Tarrant, laughing. "I've never seen someone so soaked and so happy at the same time"
Bridget couldn't contain her laughter. Each story revealed a more human and charming side of Skye, and her heart filled with warmth. Every second she spent with Skye, she felt her affection for her grow deeper and deeper.
After tea, Skye and Daniel decided to engage in a friendly sword duel. Bridget watched with interest as the two prepared. Daniel, with his firm stance and focused gaze, seemed a formidable opponent. But Skye, with her grace and agility, was no slouch.
The duel began, and the swords clashed with a metallic clang. Skye moved with impressive dexterity, dodging Daniel's attacks and striking back with precision. Bridget watched, marvelling at Skye's skill. Each move was graceful and calculated, and it soon became clear that Skye had the advantage.
Finally, with a quick twist, Skye disarmed Daniel, sending his sword crashing to the ground. "Admit I'm a better knight than you," Skye said, smiling triumphantly.
Daniel, though defeated, smiled respectfully. "You're the better knight"
Bridget felt a surge of admiration and love for Skye. Seeing her in action, so strong and confident, only reinforced her feelings. She wished these moments of happiness together with Skye would never end. In that instant, she knew she was falling in love with her, and that she would do anything to protect and be by her side.
Skye helped Tarrant and Chessur carry the cups and plates into the house. "I'll be back in a moment, cupcake," she said, winking at Bridget before disappearing behind the door.
Bridget was left alone with Daniel, feeling a slight discomfort in the air. Daniel watched her for a moment, his eyes serious but kind. Finally, he broke the silence.
"Do you love her?"
Bridget's face flushed instantly. She hadn't expected such a direct question. She looked down, fiddling nervously with her hands. "Yes," she admitted quietly, "I love her"
Daniel smiled, and the tension in the air seemed to dissipate. "I'm glad to hear that," he said. "Skye's life hasn't been easy in the White Kingdom. She's had to face a lot of hardships, but knowing she has someone like you by her side, someone who loves and supports her, gives me peace of mind"
Bridget looked up, meeting Daniel's eyes. In his expression, she saw a mixture of approval and relief. "I'll do everything I can to stand by her side and protect her," Bridget promised.
Daniel nodded, satisfied with her answer. "That's all I can ask. Skye deserves to be happy, and if you can give her that, then you have my support"
At that moment, Bridget felt a deeper connection with Daniel. She knew that, although he was protective and distrustful by nature, he also wanted what was best for Skye. And that united them in a common purpose: the happiness and well-being of the princess of the White Kingdom.
The white horse galloped gently, leading Skye and Bridget towards an unknown destination. The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, tinting the sky with warm, golden hues. Bridget clung to the horse's mane, feeling the excitement and anticipation in her chest.
"Where are you taking me?" asked Bridget curiously.
Skye smiled, her eyes sparkling with mystery. "To a place where the roses touch the sky at sunset," she replied. "It's one of my favorite places in the whole kingdom"
Bridget nodded, feeling lucky to be there. The landscape changed as they went on: the trees became more spaced out, and the breeze carried with it the sweet scent of flowers. Finally, they reached the hill.
Before them lay a sea of white roses. Bridget climbed down from the horse, her feet sinking into the soft grass. Skye followed, and together they walked into the field of roses.
The sun was setting behind the mountains, painting the sky with shades of pink.
Skye sat down on the grass and then reached out her hand to Bridget. "Come here," she said. Bridget sat down next to her, resting her head in her lap. Skye stroked her hair, and Bridget closed her eyes, feeling at peace.
The world came down to the two of them. Bridget wished this moment would never end. Skye's closeness, the scent of flowers, and the softness of her caress enveloped her like a spell.
"What will be the first thing you do when you become queen?" asked Skye, Bridget paused for a moment to think.
"I would like to unify the kingdoms"
Skye looked at Bridget with a mixture of surprise and amusement. "Unify both kingdoms?" she repeated, as if considering the idea.
Bridget nodded, feeling a little braver. "The Kingdom of Hearts and the White Kingdom could be stronger together instead of apart"
Skye smiled, and her gaze grew more intense. "You know, Bridget," she said quietly. "To unify the kingdoms you would have to marry me"
Bridget felt her heart pounding. "And where would the problem be?" she asked, with a bravery she didn't know she had.
Skye looked at Bridget with a mixture of surprise and sadness. "Bridget," she said quietly, "you deserve someone better than me. Someone without so many scars"
Bridget felt as if her heart was in a fist. "No," she replied bravely, "I want you Skye. Scars and all. I don't care what baggage you bring. I'm willing to carry it with you, to face any challenge. Because what I feel for you is stronger than anything"
Skye was surprised, her eyes widening at Bridget's words. "I'm broken, I'm a lost cause. How could someone like you love someone like me?" she muttered, as if she couldn't believe it.
Bridget stepped a little closer, her determination shining in her eyes. "You're not a lost cause, Skye," she said softly. "If you're broken, I'll help fix you"
Skye looked up at her, her eyes full of emotion. "What if I can't offer you the happiness you deserve?"
Bridget smiled, leaning a little closer. "Then together we will find happiness, Skye. Because what we have is real, and I'm willing to fight for it"
And in that moment, surrounded by white roses and with the sunset painting the sky, Skye leaned into Bridget and their lips met in a sweet, promising kiss.
The world seemed to stand still as thousands of white butterflies, formed from the petals of the roses, flew into the evening sky. It was as if the magic of their love manifested itself in that instant.
As they parted, Bridget was amazed at what she saw. White butterflies danced in the air, creating a magical atmosphere. "It's beautiful," she whispered.
Skye smiled and asked, "Have you even looked in the mirror, princess?"
The blush on Bridget's cheeks intensified, and in that moment, she knew she had found something more precious than any kingdom or crown: true love.

Modern Luxury Kitchen Design
If you’re considering remodeling your kitchen, you might want to consider a modern luxury kitchen design. This design style features tons of white with a blue accent wall and wood shaker cabinets. Then, add pops of color with a wood table, plants, and chrome hardware. Other modern luxury kitchen design features include a black range with a white and black backsplash and marble floors.
Custom range hoods
Whether your kitchen design is modern or traditional, custom range hoods will add a sophisticated touch. You can choose from a variety of styles and finishes, including copper, stainless steel, and brass. You can even have a unique hood design that matches the style of your cabinets.
When designing your kitchen, you should consider the layout, workspace, and space available. The range hood must be situated somewhere where it will allow you to cook comfortably. If you are an enthusiast chef, you may want to have a large cooking area.
Gold accents
Gold accents are an important design element in a modern luxury kitchen. They add an air of opulence and sophistication, and can be used to tie together different contrasting design elements. Choose gold or bronze hardware, or opt for brushed gold finishes on countertops and cabinets. Gold and bronze accents can create a stunning colour palette by accentuating golden hues throughout the space. The accents can also be used to introduce subtle hints of metal to the room.
In one luxury kitchen, a small modern chandelier doubles up as a dramatic focal point over the dining peninsula. In addition, gold wireframe bar stools compliment the routed fronts of the kitchen units and help make the gold the dominant texture. To complete the look, a golden Mickey Mouse statue adds a playful element.
White cabinets
White cabinets are a classic choice in the modern luxury kitchen. But they don’t have to be boring! A few subtle design tweaks can make your white cabinets feel interesting and unique. One way to add some personality is by using shapes and patterns. Round or squared off cabinet lines can create a more interesting look.
Using offbeat shapes can add a unique touch to a modern luxury kitchen design. You can also add a statement backsplash.
False ceilings
The use of false ceilings in modern luxury kitchen design can be beneficial for several reasons. They can increase the aesthetic appeal of a room while also providing added insulation. In addition, false ceilings are easy to maintain and require minimal labour. In addition to this, they can also reduce the risk of fire or smoke.
The use of false ceilings is becoming increasingly popular in recent years, which can be attributed to several factors. First, the kitchen is no longer the space in the home that gets the least attention, so many homeowners started recognising the benefits of creating an inspiring kitchen design space.
Wooden panels
The use of wood panels in a kitchen is a popular interior design trend. Not only does it look elegant, but it also provides a warm ambiance. This type of wood is suitable for homes with rustic farmhouse themes. These panels can also be used on cabinetry, recessed entertainment centers, and built-in open shelving.
One type of wood panel is made of bamboo. The smooth texture of the material gives a warm and cozy feel to a kitchen. The light caramel wood laminate panel paired with a sleek white cabinet creates a luxurious look and feel.
Mirrored backsplash
Mirrored backsplashes are a popular option for kitchens. Besides reflecting light and expanding small spaces, they also add a glamorous touch to a kitchen. They are available in a wide variety of materials, colors, and finishes. A mirrored backsplash will be especially stunning if it is surrounded by bright metallic tiles.
Mirrored backsplash designs can be found in many designs and can be placed on walls or floors. A mirror backsplash can change the entire look of the room and can be placed diagonally or vertically, which gives the space a more spacious look. Mirrored backsplashes are also easy to clean.
Tons of white
If you’re looking to create a luxury kitchen, there are plenty of options for you to consider. A white kitchen can feel stark, but it can also look incredibly glamorous with a splash of colour. One popular trend is using two different shades of white for cabinetry and countertops.
To add contrast to a white kitchen, consider adding a marble countertop or backsplash. The contrasting material will add texture and warmth to the room.

– Colors: What colours do you want in your new kitchen?
Once you’ve considered all these things, you can start planning your new kitchen!
Is it possible to place a refrigerator in the kitchen?
For easy access, a refrigerator should be placed near the sink. It should not be blocked by traffic or too close to a stove.
What is the 5-zone kitchen?
The 5-zone kitchen is an innovative design that allows for more efficient cooking with less space. It has five different cooking areas. These include a sink area (with stove), a stove and fridge area, as well as a food preparation zone and a dining area. This gives each cook their own area to work in, and reduces the need to have a large kitchen that has multiple appliances.
Maximil, a German kitchen designer, invented the 5-zone cooking system. This is commonly used in European-styled kitchens. It is also useful for families who wish to save energy and time by cooking in one place.
These are some important things to remember if you are thinking about a 5-zone cooking area for your home. First, there will be enough space to accommodate all five zones. Each zone must be ventilated properly to prevent any lingering smells and fumes. Third, it is important that the layout of the kitchen allows for mobility between zones.
The 5-zone kitchen can be an excellent option for those who want a more efficient and stylish kitchen. With proper planning, it can be a great addition to any home.
What are the benefits of the 5-zone kitchen?
There are several benefits to the 5-zone kitchen, including:
Increased efficiency – Each cook has their own workspace, eliminating the need to move around between appliances.
more stylish – the 5-zone kitchen is often used in European-style kitchens, which can add a touch of elegance to your home;
Better ventilation – Each zone is properly ventilated to prevent lingering odors and fumes in the kitchen.
Improvement in layout – Kitchen layout should allow for easy movement among zones.
The 5-zone Kitchen is an excellent choice for those who desire a more efficient and stylish cooking space. If planned properly, the 5-zone kitchen can be a wonderful addition to any house.
Is it a good idea to leave during a kitchen renovation?
If you love to eat takeout, you don’t have to leave. However, if your children or pets are young or have special needs, you may want to consider living at a family member’s home or staying with a friend during renovations. This will allow you to relax and not have to worry about your children being in danger or getting hurt. It will also make it easier to maintain your sanity if you aren’t constantly dealing with construction noises. Get a written estimate from the contractor if you are planning to move. That way, you can plan your relocation around their timeline.
Which is the best layout for a kitchen?
If you have enough space, an L-shaped kitchen with a island is the best layout.

How To
How to design a kitchen layout
Although there’s no perfect layout for a kitchen, some layouts work well in certain spaces. Here are some tips on how to design a kitchen layout that will work best for your space:
Start with the essentials. The first step is determining what you need in your kitchen and what can be sacrificed. You don’t necessarily need a large stove, oven, or other appliances if your cooking isn’t very extensive.
Consider the traffic flow. The second step is to think about how you and your family use your kitchen, and how traffic flows through it. You want enough space to be able to move freely and not bump into others.
Maximize storage. The third step is to maximize storage in your kitchen layout. This includes food storage as well as cookware storage. You want everything to be organized and easily accessible.
Include your personal style. The fourth step is to incorporate your personal style into the kitchen layout. This includes everything including countertops and cabinets, flooring, and appliances. Choose materials and finishes that reflect your style.
Partner with a professional. Working with a professional kitchen designer is the fifth step. They can help create a layout to meet all your needs.

Victims
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x female reader
Warnings:Fluff, mention of trauma, rape(not by Bucky), torture. (No mention of rape in this chapter but will be in future ones)
Description: You discover you may have misjudged Bucky.
This is my first Chapter of an idea I’ve been wanting to play out for a while now. More to come very soon.
Chapter 1: Sleep
Bucky didn’t talk much.
Especially not to you. “He wasn’t always like this.” Steve had said to you once in passing, his keen senses picking up on just how tense your shoulders got whenever Bucky had blatantly ignored you. Good old Steve, not a bad word to say about anyone. You tried to brush it off, but you really hated being ignored. It made you feel like a pathetic, over excited puppy dog nipping at everyones heels for attention. You were loud, and blunt, and very aware of how much social space you took up when you engaged in conversation. You had no doubt it was annoying. Many times you tried to curb your hyper behavior, but that was exhausting, and eventually you had to come to the conclusion that that was just you. You were who you were, and everyone-save Bucky-adored you. That was on him, you couldn’t change how he felt.
You weren’t quite sure how to approach Barnes, having only ever known him as The Asset before you all came to the compound. The first time you met, he’d lifted you off the ground with a metal hand to your throat. He would have snapped your neck if Steve hadn’t gotten him off of you. You really hated that, too. You wanted so desperately not to need saving, ever. You were strong, but you were no Super Soldier, and the overly competitive parts of you reeled against that with everything they had. You did not need to be saved. Not by Steve or anyone.
You weren’t the only one on the team without powers. You learned from shared experience it didn’t make you any less essential. Just hurt like a son of a bitch sometimes. Like Bucky, you had been taken by Hydra against your will. Unlike Bucky-you hadn’t been brainwashed. Just tortured. No matter how hard they pushed, no matter how many times you had been left bruised and bleeding on the icy concrete floor you never lost sight of what was right. When Hydra’s infiltration of Shield was out in the open, and they released the Winter Soldier into the world again you felt like it was the moment you had been waiting for. Suddenly everything they had taught you about weapons and hand to hand became a brutal mistake on their part. When Nick Fury learned about the things you had done, what you knew, seen you in action, he made sure you and Steve Rogers got acquainted. After that, you never had to look for a job a day in your life. Now you were here.
It wasn’t yet light out when you headed down the stairs, dressed in a black running gear from head to toe, all the way down to your shoes that were propped against the wall in waiting. Your socks were actually the only colorful thing you had on, red white and blue donning the captain America shield, an ongoing joke between you and Steve.
You were always up before anyone else, craving the silence and peace you felt in the early morning, beginning your usual run just as the sun crested the hilltops. Your workout regimen was insanely strict, you beat yourself up whenever you ran late, often feeling guilty about it the rest of the day. Absentmindedly, you bobbed your head to the song playing in your headphones, doing your best to keep relatively quiet as you mixed up your pre-workout in a shaker bottle. You spun to set it on the counter beside you, jumping when you noticed the outline of a figure sitting across from you.
“Jesus,” you said more to yourself than to him, lowering your headphones to around the base of your neck. You popped the cap of your bottle and rolling your shoulders. Taking your first sip of caffeine, you held his stare.
“You scared me, man.”
Bucky said nothing, though his eyes widened slightly- the only indication that he had heard you at all. He sat straight and rigid behind the marble countertop, but he looked…softer somehow. His lips parted slightly, exhaling a short breath, then pressed together gently. His grey henley was wrinkled and disheveled, his hands laid flat on his thighs, as though he was awaiting his next order.
“Are you going for a run?” He asked in such a tender tone that you blinked twice before you processed that it was even him speaking. You weren’t even aware that he knew you ran. You weren’t even aware he knew you existed half the time.
“Uh-yeah.” You responded cautiously, swirling the contents of your bottle to incorporate the undissolved powder at the bottom. Bucky gave a small nod, greasy strands of dark hair falling into his eyes as he did so. Dark circles plagued in under-eyes, while the glass blue of his irises looked dull and worn. He looked rough, even for him. You always thought he was the best looking one here, but it’s a little hard to appreciate someones looks when all they ever do is disregard you. Now that you got a really good look at him, even with the obvious sleep deprivation, you could see just how handsome he really was.
“You go every day?” The Soldier’s next question pulled you from your drifting thoughts and you had a question of your own; why did he care? The longest conversation you had ever had with this man was the time he asked you to pass the A1 and that was a month ago.
“Six days a week,” you started, with caffeine running through your brain you were unable to keep yourself from over-explaining.
“Wednesdays are my rest days, It’s the only day I get to sleep in but I usually don’t. I hate taking rest days, but it’s better for your body if you do.”
You finished your drink and set the bottle in the sink for now, you would wash it later. You were ready to abandon this weird fucking conversation. Sliding your headphones back over your ears, you pulled out your phone and started to search for a song to run to when you glanced up and noticed the look on his face. You hadn’t been through anything close to what he had, but you knew a thing or two about trauma. You definitely knew that look from all the times you’d seen it in your reflection.
You paused your music and took the headphones down again, setting them on the counter this time.
“Are you okay?” You asked, pressing your hips against the ledge, leaning your palms on the counter, ready to listen. The sincerity of your voice threw him off. He was so used to being on the outside looking in, watching you make your sarcastic quips to everyone, chuckling to himself when no one was looking. He was always blown away by just how clever you were, and how quick your mind worked. He didn’t think he could keep up in a conversation with you in a million years. It wasn’t often Sargent Barnes was intimidated. You were fiery, and tough, funny as hell-and you didn’t take shit from anyone.
Bucky had heard from Steve that you had a big heart, but he had never seen the softer side of you.
His eyes were shiny when he looked up at you, his voice echoed with defeat.
“I don’t know how I got here.” He said quietly.
“I don’t want to move. I-“ His voice choked a little.
“I don’t know where I’m supposed to be.”
You felt your heart squeeze in your chest. God, what this poor man had endured. He had been told where to go, what to do, what to say- for years he had been controlled. Now he was free, and he was confused, scared. Hydra was no walk in the park, but you get used to the routine of torment and control. You knew better than anyone what that was like.
“How long have you been down here?” You asked. He was still, then he responded.
“A few hours, I think.” He didn’t look at the clock, just stared straight ahead. He must have gotten up in the middle of the night from a bad dream.
You sucked in a small breath through your teeth, then exhaled, letting the tension release from between your shoulder blades.
“Okay,” You said quietly, setting your phone down and rounding the side of the counter. Your run could wait a little while.
“Okay. That’s okay. Do you want me to help you back to you room?” Bucky shook his head.
“I think I broke a mirror. Glass everywhere.” You nodded, making a mental note to clean it up when you got back.
Bucky’s breath hitched slightly, increasing in rhythm. “I don’t know where I’m supposed to be.” He repeated, and you slid your hand toward him on the counter, leaning on your elbow so you were face level with him.
“Hey,” Your voice was soft, calm, even. It encouraged him to stay the same by your example.
“It’s alright, I’m going to help you.”
You had your mission now, heading back to the kitchen you put the tea kettle on, then opened the freezer, taking out the frozen eye mask Tony sometimes used for hangovers. You dug into the cabinet taking out two peppermint tea bags from your hidden stash, dropping one in the nearest mug, and tucking one in your sweatshirt pocket.
You were beside him again, moving the ice pack toward his forehead. Bucky jerked backward with a quick inhale, and you drew your arm inward. You remembered his mask. “I’m just going to put it on your forehead.” You murmured. Bucky’s bottom lip quivered. “Don’t put that on me, please.” Your fingers curled, and you nodded in understanding.
“Okay, okay, one sec.” You jogged back into the kitchen and traded the ice pack for two large chunks of ice.
“Let’s try this instead.”
Bucky watched you carefully, your well muscled legs flexing as you busied yourself in the kitchen. He had been distantly aware that you were in good shape, but your normal black cargo pants must have hid a lot from view, because now that he was seeing you in the leggings you wore to run-he couldn’t stop looking. God damn, you really took care of yourself. His eyes snapped back up when you turned around again. You were careful to switch the stove off before the kettle wailed, pouring hot water into the mug and sliding it in font of him. Steam swirled from the cup and the soldier caught a whiff of mint.
You were in front of him again, conscious not to make too many sudden movements. “Turn toward me.” You instructed, and he followed orders, allowing you to stand between his legs as you soothed a cube of ice over each of his temples. His eyes fluttered slightly, the frozen temperature sent a shock of relief down his spine. He couldn’t hold back the pained groan as it erupted from his chest when you moved your fingers in slow circles, applying just the right amount of pressure.
“Y’know,” You began. “Before I was here, before any of this, I worked at a mental facility for at-risk teenagers.”
Bucky’s brow knit. He had always assumed that with your skills with firearms and combat that you had always been in some sort of covert ops position. He was realizing just how little he knew about you. Steve talked about you sometimes, but his jaw had always been real tight when it came to your past. “Drugs, alcohol, suicide, abuse-I hated it, it was too hard on me mentally-but I learned a lot. Most importantly, I learned that when you press something cold to your temple or forehead, it sends a shock to your neurotransmitters. Basically telling your system that you’re in pain, countering panic by releasing chemicals into the body that slow down the release of cortisol and adrenaline.”
The dark haired man soaked in every word you said . He knew you talked a lot, but you’d never talked this much to him before, and he was eating it up. Bucky had always like the sound of your voice. He didn’t even mind the melting water running down his neck, soaking into the collar of his shirt.
“You can also bite down on a lemon wedge. ” You offered, taking the cubes of ice away and tossing them into the sink. You pulled your sweatshirt sleeve over the heel of your hand and dabbed the water away, he leaned into your touch this time.
“Or smell strong peppermint.” You said, gently lifting his metal arm by the wrist and snatching the packet of tea from your pocket, dropping it in his shiny palm.
“It’s called grounding.” You stated, motioning for him to try.
Hesitantly, the soldier brought his hand to his nose, inhaling deeply. He looked back at you with one grateful nod. It helped. You pointed curtly to the cabinet by the fridge.
“I always keep a box of tea in there, it’s shoved way in the back because someone keeps taking it, probably Sam, but you’re welcome to as much as you’d like.” You slid the now perfect temperature tea into his free hand.
“Drink it, It always helps calm me down.”
Bucky took two greedy gulps, downing about half it’s contents in one go and making you giggle. It made his eyelids heavy.
“C’mon, Sergeant Barnes.” You coaxed, beckoning him to follow you into the other room. When he stood, you had to take a step back. You weren’t exactly the shortest person, but even so, had always worn tactical boots around him and they added a couple inches to your height. With you just in socks, you realized how much he towered over your five foot seven stature. It both scared and excited you. You edged a foot backward, circling it behind yourself and swaying your weight on it as if you were ready for him to take a swing at you. He eyed your stance momentarily before you broke and softened again, shaking out fists you hadn’t even realized you’d clenched. You didn’t trust him yet.
Wordlessly, you led him to the couch. His footsteps behind you were lighter than you thought they would be, but of course he had both stealth and brute force on his side. That sent a tingle down your stomach that you chose to ignore.
“Lay down.” You said as you dragged the coffee table closer to the couch. Bucky did as he was told, his burned out mind thankful to have some sort of direction. His eyes were half lidded and languorous, the long forgotten feeling of sleep pulling at the edges of his bruised psyche. His eyes tracked your every move. His stare somewhat lazy with fatigue, but right on target like the skilled sniper you’d seen in action so many times.
“Try to get some sleep.” Your voice was still soft, but brimmed with anticipation for your upcoming workout. Bucky felt a sudden pang of guilt for keeping you back an extra half hour. He glanced over his shoulder at the window, seeing through the gap in the shades that the sun was already up.
“I’ll check in with you when I get back.” You added, taking a large cashmere blanket from the nearby armchair and draping it over him. He hadn’t been tucked into bed in over 70 years.
You scampered back to the kitchen to retrieve his mug, but when you set it down on the table and looked at his face, he was already asleep.
“Sleep well, Sergeant.” You said quietly.
Bucky’s eyes were open the minute you turned your back, watching as you pulled your shoes on and jogged out the door. He craned his neck so he could watch you take off down the neatly paved road.
It was only when you were completely out of sight that he finally let himself fall asleep.

A Guide to Small Bathroom Renovations in Houston
Dreaming of a bathroom renovation in Houston, but don’t know where to begin? Start with this guide.
It’s no surprise that baths are topping many remodeling lists these days. In Houston, real estate comes in a variety of architectural styles, from French Country and bungalow to Queen Anne and ranch. Plus, bath trends today cover a range of décor styles that are compatible with your home’s architecture. For those considering their own Houston bathroom renovation, here are the need-to-knows and items to plan for before you begin.
Sweeten matches home renovation projects with vetted general contractors, offering advice, support, and up to $50,000 in renovation financial protection—for free.
What are your goals?
For most people, updating the bathroom design is the #1 priority. Who doesn’t welcome a glow-up, especially in the bathroom? Modernizing dated cabinetry and hardware, and installing more stylish faucets are go-to options. So is swapping out a tub for a shower. Or, upgrading the shower with a thermostatic system with integrated volume control. Maybe your luxury shower dreams include multiple body sprays and a rain shower! Many homeowners opt to remove old, tired for a refreshed version. Another key focus in bathroom renovations is adding extra storage.
What are your needs?
That’s easier to figure out. Who will use the bath? In a medium-sized bath, do you prefer a tub or shower? Single or double vanity? Take clear notes on any must-have features in your bath.
Budgeting for a bath remodel in Houston
To help you sort it out, here is what you can expect to pay in Houston, on average. Retaining the footprint in a mid-range bathroom remodel in Houston starts at around $15,000, up to $25,000. Costs will vary based on the materials used, as well as the complexity of installation. For example, a mosaic backsplash is more affordable when the tiles are installed on a sheet. Micro mini tiles installed individually will be more labor-intensive—and more expensive.
Materials costs can vary greatly as well, with super affordable options available at big box stores, versus high-end imported tile companies. A powder room may slide into a slightly lower entry-level for costs, but again, it depends on the materials you choose! Read more about home renovation costs for Houston.
What are you likely to recoup in value?
Sixty percent, according to Remodeling’s Cost Vs Value report for Houston. Or, almost $12,000; based on a 5-by-7 foot bath that costs around $19,000 or $542 psf. This includes a new 30-by-60 inch porcelain-on-steel bathtub, new single-lever temperature, and pressure-balanced shower control, ceramic tiles, and a recessed medicine cabinet with built-in lighting.
How long does a Houston bathroom renovation take?
According to Sweeten contractors, construction time averages about two to three weeks. However: planning, executing, and finishing can take six weeks to three months—depending on the size and complexity of your project.
How to get the most bang for the buck
When your space is dimensionally challenged (read: small), and you don’t have the room or budget to expand, you still have plenty of options. One way is to create the illusion of more space, by doing one or more of the following:
Use wall-mounted vanities and toilets. That extra floor space opens up the room.
Another space enhancer: a solid surface vanity counter with an integral sink.
Install a wall-to-wall mirror behind a long vanity or an oversized round mirrors. Mirrors visually expand space. Some streamlined designs incorporate medicine cabinets.
A classic pedestal sink also is visually slimming. Modern washstands, usually in metal frames, are on-trend options, especially white on black. More traditional sinks with turned console legs offer additional metal choices, like brass or polished nickel.
Building in storage wherever you can tuck in shelves for towels and essentials. Recessed niches in the shower for shampoo and conditioner also are smart.
Swap a tub for a roomy walk-in shower with an all-glass frame. If there’s a window, natural light will flow through, visually boosting the dimensions of the space.
Why should you consider neutrals in the bathroom?
Many homeowners opt for white and beige in baths because it’s safe. But that doesn’t mean it has to be boring! Designers use a few tricks of the trade to keep neutrals feel fresh. One trick is the magic of tone-on-tone—but with nuances. (That means mixing different shades of neutral, from light to dark.) Another trick is to pair neutrals with different textures. Get this look by pairing a dimensional wallcovering or an embossed tile with a polished or smooth surface.
Adding color to a bathroom
We love when homeowners go bold in the bathroom and color outside the lines. Some argue that vibrant colors can take over smaller spaces, like powder rooms. But others feel that’s the perfect venue for bold cobalt or emerald, a spicy tangerine, or saffron. Precisely because it’s a small space, you can afford to be dramatic—and even splurge on faucets and towel holders, plus lighting and a fancy wallcovering.
Color doesn’t need to be limited to walls: consider the countertop or the vanity. Blues and greens—bright and pale—are gaining traction in traditional, country, and modern styles.
Comparing bathroom remodeling materials
Stone has some hefty competition these days from porcelain tile. Porcelain is not confined to small format 4-, 6- or 12-inch tiles. Porcelain comes in slabs, some very thin yet sturdy, which can be applied to walls and floors. And with digital technology, manufacturers are able to replicate some of the most desirable marbles (Carrara or Calacatta) or granites. The look of exotic-colored stones also is available with remarkable authenticity.
Currently, matte black is a hot trend in faucets and hardware. Burnished and polished gold are also trending, and pairing them with black is especially chic. Mixing metals, like satin metal and polished nickel with gold also is more acceptable.
One guideline for choosing materials that are basically semi-permanent: Being on-trend (modernizing the classics) is fine, but being trendy (here now, gone tomorrow) is not.
Be sure to allow enough time
As soon as you have a plan, try to get through the selection process for materials as quickly as you can. Ask about inventory even before you place your order, so you’re not disappointed. You may be unpleasantly surprised to find that your favorite tile or stone, or that dreamy vanity you’ve got your eye on, will take an extra 6 to 8 weeks to show up. However, if you can’t imagine living without it, go for it! It may be well worth the wait.
Demolition and prep
On average, ripping out old bathroom material is a day’s work. It depends on how large the room is, and how extensive the renovation will be. For instance, removing a tile floor or wall may take a bit longer. Tweaking plumbing and electrical, which may require rerouting or new wiring, also is part of the process.
Installation
You’ve passed through the rough and dirty parts, and now you’re in the fun phase. When surfaces, fixtures, and lighting get installed (allow 1 to 3 days), take a moment to enjoy it! Grab some pictures on your phone to show your family and friends.
Ready to get started?
Make sure your scope and budget align, talk to your contractor about any possible surprises or delays, and coordinate your material deliveries with your contractor. Have these in line and you’ll be on your way to your beautiful new bath!

A Lucky Night- Chapter 12
Here is my multi-chapter pic featuring characters I do not own from Criminal Minds, Alvez x Garcia, in a story of my own creation. It picks up at the end of 13.5.
Warning: Some chapters contain smut. While many do not, the ones that do are definitely 18+, NSFW.
Please feel free to re-blog and review! Please ask for permission before posting on any other platform.
This chapter does not contain smut but does definitely mention nudity and implies sexual arousal.
Penelope looked around the elegant foyer of the salon as they stepped just inside the door. The walls were a warm taupe, with rich, mahogany cabinets down the center of the room. The entry was dominated by a large reception desk with a full mirror behind it. Hair stylists’ stations lined either wall. A few black leather chairs were sat on either side of the front door in the windows, allowing waiting clients to relax until their appointment. At the back of the room several white doors led to other rooms.
A tall, willowy redhead stepped out from behind the large wooden desk. “Hello, and welcome to Alex’s,” she said in a polite tone, a faint accent detectable yet unidentifiable. She shook their hands, continuing to introduce herself. “My name is Brigitte. How may I assist you this evening?”
“Hello, my name is Luke Alvez. My girlfriend Penelope and I have a 5pm appointment for a couple’s massage and then I believe we are scheduled after that for a few other services,” Luke responded in a similarly formal, polite tone. Penelope looked at him curiously. There he goes throwing the word ‘girlfriend’ around again.
“Oh yes, Mr. Alvez. We have indeed been expecting you. The proprietor, Sandra, has asked me to ensure you two have anything you might desire. We are just so honored to be able to welcome friends of Mr. Rossi. He’s such a lovely man, and very well liked around here,” the elegant woman said with a tone that was still rather formal but now contained a touch more warmth and accompanied a slight smile. “Let me show you to your room, and please do not hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can get you. We have a selection of beverages, fruit, and chocolates.” Brigitte led them through the salon to the white door on the far left. A simple gold plaque identified it as the Massage Treatment Room. Brigitte opened the door, and extended her hand in invitation.
Penelope stepped into the intimate, beautiful room with Luke close behind. The room was not overly large, but neither was it crowded. The opposite wall held a bank of gleaming, mahogany cabinets that matched the outer salon. However, the marble countertop was covered in flickering candles. In the center of the room, two massage tables stood draped in white sheets. Red rose petals had been sprinkled over the beds and the floor surrounding them. A delicate chandelier overhead added to the ambience, casting a soft light that was reflected on the mirrored wall. It was a stunning, intimate space and exceedingly romantic.
“I will let your masseuses know that you have arrived. Please, feel free to disrobe and lie face down, each of you on one of the tables. You are welcome to cover yourself to the waist if that would make you more comfortable, although it certainly is not necessary. After your massage, you will be invited to don one of the white robes handing here next to the door. We will place your clothing and other items in the changing room you will be able to use at the end of the evening. Your possessions will be more than secure, I assure you. I will return once you are finished to escort you to your next service, and offer refreshments. Should you need me before then, please ring the bell by the door. Luke, Penelope, enjoy your massage,” Brigitte said warmly, closing the door softly behind her.
Penelope looked at Luke, her faced shocked. “Wait, this is a naked massage? Like, both of us naked? Together? In the same room?” Penelope asked. Luke looked at her speechless face and he wanted to laugh, but something told him that she wouldn’t find it charming and adorable that she was nervous to be naked in front of him. No, his tender- hearted Penelope would probably get her feelings hurt. Probably nothing he could say right now would help her feel less nervous in front of him. He’d have to show her there was nothing to be afraid of, no reason to hide or feel embarrassed.
Without saying a word, Luke kicked off his sneakers. Pulling off his socks and stuffing them into his shoes, he straightened and pulled off his hoodie first, then his v-neck. Luke stepped closer to her, grasping the zipper of his hoodie that she wore, unzipping it slowly. He let his hands brush the swells of her breasts as he dragged the zipper down over her chest and then stomach. He peeled the halves away, caressing her curves through her sweater and shirt as he did so. Discarding the hoodie on top of the growing pile of their clothes, he lowered himself onto one knee. Bending, he untied her sneakers. He drew first one, then the other, off her foot. Her socks soon followed. Looking up at her, he waited for a moment.
Penelope looked down at the handsome, shirtless man who yesterday had been the coworker she’d just barely started to admit that she didn’t loath entirely because she was much too afraid to admit that she was all too attracted to him- both body and soul. If you’d pressed her she would have grudgingly admitted that he was a wonderful addition to the team- an excellent profiler, a kind friend even. She might have even admitted he was someone she would consider part of the BAU family- even though he’d had the misfortune of replacing her best friend and partner in all banter considered inappropriate to the workplace.
It was his own fault for being smolderingly sexy which was the opposite of what she needed when trying to remain aloof and disinterested in the new guy who would just be leaving like so many before him- Morgan, Gideon, Elle, Kate, Alex… Emily briefly… hell, even Hotch. Just yesterday, Penelope would have probably admitted that Luke Alvez had worn her down, grown on her like mold. What with his adorable dog and his persistent attempts at small talk in the elevator, the way he had protected Reid in prison, comforted her when she cried, and rescued JJ from the fire and Emily from Scratch.
But how did they end up here? What difference a day makes. She would have never admitted that she was- or rather had- fallen for Luke. And she would never have dreamed that all those denied fantasies would come true. Yet here they were disrobing in front of each other.
Biting her lower lip, Penelope decided it was now or never. She unbuttoned her teal sweater, dropping it to the floor beside where she stood. She bent, shimmying of her bright, flowery leggings. Standing back up she turned around, presenting her back to Luke. “Would you please untie my top?” she asked quietly, pulling her hair to the side so he could reach the bow of the halter neck.
Luke tore his gaze away from the long lines of her legs she had just exposed. He rose quickly, his hands trailing up her back, caressing the soft smooth skin of her back and shoulder blades. He made quick work of untying the knot, then pressed kisses along her spine from the place on her neck down to where the fabric dipped low on her back, just above her bra.
Penelope turned, pushing the halter down to her waist, revealing her bra and stomach. “Thank you, Luke,” she whispered. Taking a step back, she pushed both the shirt and her denim skirt over her hips. The fabric slithered down her thighs, pooling at her feet. She stood in front of him in only her black, strapless, push-up bra and black, lacey, boy-short panties.
Luke couldn’t even speak. His jaw nearly hit the floor and his eyes stared at Penelope, unblinking. She was absolutely lovely. The black lingerie provided a perfect frame for the pale perfection of her smooth skin. Her breasts were literally overflowing the small bra that seemed to defy gravity. How such a simple garment could have even secured her abundant curves all day amazed him. Her waist dipped in, then sloped to gentle, rounded curve of her tummy. The black lace against the curve of her hips was incredibly enticing. And her legs were somehow even longer than they looked beneath her skirts and dresses he liked so much. They were gracefully curved, with plump thighs and toned calves from all those heels she wore every day- Those heels that torture him every day, showing off those gorgeous legs he wanted wrapped around his waist.
Luke stepped forward, reaching out his hands as if to grab her by the hips. But she stepped back, and walked over to the table. Turning away from him, she said, “We had lie down, I suppose. Before they show up and we’re not ready for the massage.” Continuing to face away, she unclasped her bra, letting it fall to the floor as she quickly laid down before he could glimpse any more than he’d already seen. She left her panties on. Massage or no massage, there was no way she was lying in a room entirely in the nude when Luke and two perfect strangers could see her. Turning her head towards Luke, she peeked over at him. He stood where she’d left him, still wearing his slacks. “Umm, earth to Luke. I think if you aren’t disrobed and lying on your massage table when they walk in I get two masseuses for the price of one,” she teased, her voice sounding breathy even to her own ears.
Luke suddenly seemed to snap out of it. He quickly unbuttoned his slacks, pushing them over his hips and stepping out of them. He left them on the floor with the rest of his clothes. Penelope’s mouth went completely dry at the sight of him, clad only in a pair of red boxer briefs. Of course, Luke would NOT be the king of guy who wore boxers that would provide some modesty in this moment. Practically shorts, that would have been too much to ask for. No, Luke was standing just two feet away in tight, red shorts that not only displayed his toned, flexed hip muscles that made that crazy v shape only underwear models and the Hemsworth brothers had- they revealed his muscular, toned thighs and ass she’d caught a glimpse of this morning.
Penelope blushed, turning her head away so he didn’t notice the color staining her cheeks or the glance she’d directed at the rather obvious bulge at the front of his boxer briefs. Just moments after she heard Luke lie down on the table just next to her- completely nude or still wearing the boxer briefs, she could only guess- the door opened and the two masseuses entered, pulling two small rolling carts of lotions and oils.
Both women appeared to be in their late forties or early fifties, and were dressed in white linen outfits. They introduced themselves, and then each came alongside one of the beds. Penelope felt a touch on her hand, and turning her head she saw that Luke was holding her fingers and looking at her with a reassuring smile on his face. Penelope smiled back, and then turned to the masseuse who was asking her which scent she would prefer. Hmm, lavender would make her sleepy- so that was out. She didn’t usually like vanilla or other food scents- byproduct of high school days being the girl who was overweight. No sense making life harder by also smelling like cake. Rose was nice on flowers, but didn’t always do much for her as a perfume. “Do you have any other options, maybe something…” Penelope asked, trailing off. What was it she wanted? Something more unique maybe? Sexier?
The woman nodded, smiling. “Just a moment,” she said. Turning to the cabinets she came back with a bottle. “This is a special blend, one of my favorites actually. It has undertones of sandalwood, very light over-notes of peach, and the main note is jasmine. It isn’t overpowering, but it is definitely noticeable and definitely sexy. Not all women could pull it off, but I think it is perfect for someone so obviously aware of her power as a woman,” she said, offering the bottle to Penelope to sniff. It was perfect: intense and intoxicating, but not overwhelming. Penelope nodded her head happily.
Settling down, she turned her head back towards Luke. His eyes were closed, but his hand was still holding hers tightly. He opened an eye, looking at her. She smiled, and he smiled back, then closed his eyes. She closed hers too, and let the experience overtake her senses. For the first time, she noticed the quiet notes of a soulful instrumental jazz piece over the sound system. She could smell the fragrant lotion the masseuse was rubbing into her tired muscles. She might need to buy a bottle, it was the perfect balance of sensual but also somewhat playful. She also picked up another scent, something woodsy and masculine that smelled divine. It must be whatever Luke had chosen- makes sense they didn’t offer him lavender and rose. She couldn’t pin the exact scents, but the combination made her want to bury her face in his neck.
Before Penelope could think on it too long, she found herself lost in the sensations of the masseuse’s strong hands pressing and pulling on the muscles beneath her skin. The woman firm, warm hands left her skin tingling. She started at Penelope’s shoulders and neck, then moved briefly to her arms, before continuing down her back. The woman’s hands moved across her skin in an unhurried, but efficient pace and she was thorough, going so far as to massage down the exposed sides of Penelope’s breasts. There was nothing sexual in the touch, but given that she was practically nude, in a room with Luke, whom she’d spent all day kissing and caressing, even just the brief, professional touches were causing electric shocks to travel through her body. Penelope squeezed Luke’s fingers tight, and bit down on her lip to stifle the moan that threatened to emerge.
Luke’s eyes flew open at the feel of her hand grasping his so tightly. He looked at her, seemingly to try and make sure she was ok. Penelope could only imagine what she looked like, biting her lip and blushing profusely. The way that Luke’s eyes darkened with passion, it was clear he could read her face perfectly. Penelope closed her eyes, embarrassed beyond belief. She was thankful when the masseuse’s hands finally moved lower to the muscles of her lower back, hips and thighs. Although still rather personal, her body did not respond to these touches quite so, ahem, freely.
Thirty minutes was over rather quickly it seemed. The women thanked them, bringing them each one of the soft, Egyptian cotton robes. They reminded them to leave any possessions they wished locked in the dressing room, and invited them to return again. On her way out, Penelope’s masseuse stopped to whisper something to her. Penelope smiled and nodded, whispering back. The woman smiled, and nodded as well. Then she exited, closing the door behind her.

http://dlvr.it/RY2sFS WHAT. A. VIEW! WHAT. A. VIEW! Yes, it's so amazing I had to say it twice. What a hidden gem located in Little River, SC overlooking the MARSH and INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY. 4533 Landing Road is a 3 bedroom / 2.5 bath raised beach house in a small friendly GATED community with surreal peaceful surroundings. With only 18 homes in this community and tucked away from the hustle-and-bustle, this home is an ideal primary residence or 2nd home property. 4533 Landing Road has a 2-car garage on the ground level. There is also a large open storage area / workshop along with an EXTRA enclosed storage area / workshop. The owner also installed a bar under the home in this garage area with a tiled countertop, TV, and wooden bar chairs. Also, all of the windows in this area can be opened so you have a gentle breeze for your friends & family gatherings. In the small back yard, there is an outdoor deck with a raised fire-pit and palm trees (of course there are palm trees - you're in S.C. !!). From early spring to late fall, you'd be able to find me right here on the deck listening to the breeze rustle through the marsh while watching the boaters out playing on the waterway. Upstairs on the 2nd level is your main living area with the owner's suite, kitchen, dining area, and living room. There are 12" tile floors in the foyer, kitchen, living room, dining area, laundry room, and 3rd floor bathroom. Wood laminate floors are found in the owner's suite while the only place you'll find carpet is on the stairs and in the 2 upstairs bedrooms. The owner's suite has a walk-in closet and the master bath has an upgraded vanity and a tiled shower. The 1/2 bath is located on the main living area just off the kitchen and has a pedestal sink, round mirror, and decorative lighting fixture. The guest bathroom upstairs has a marble sink, oval mirror, a tub/shower combo, and decorative light fixture. The current owner removed the wall that used to be between the kitchen and the living room so it's now an excellent open floor plan. The kitchen features: Corian countertops with an under-mount sink and goose-neck faucet; white raised-panel cabinets with brushed-nickel handles; all white appliances (dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, smooth-top range / oven); and an island with decorative tile inlays in the floor. The living room is spacious and open and those picture windows are UNBELIEVABLE! You may never leave the living room as you will be constantly mesmerized by the stunning views. There is also a working antique gas stove in the living room area that makes for a great conversation piece. With large bedrooms, smooth ceilings throughout the home, a separate laundry room with a side-by-side washer/dryer, and all of these other wonderful features, you won't find a more exceptional value for a home on the Waterway anywhere in this area. #homesweethome #beachlife #myrtlebeach #realestate #homesforsale #wesellthebeach #liveonvacation #lovewhereyoulive #results #boydteam #eddieboyd #julieboyd #www.boydteam.com #8432228566

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Fall Decor
Beautiful Homes of Instagram is one of my favorite series here on HomeBunch and it feels even more special when these homes are decorated for a special time of the year, such as Fall.
Ashley from @modernglamhome, beautifully decorated many spaces of her gorgeous home and she’s sharing all of the details with us today. Keep reading to learn a few decorating tricks by this talented homeowner:
“Hi! I am Ashley, the voice behind Modern Glam a lifestyle blog where I share my love of home decor, fun DIY projects and healthy recipes. My husband and I have been renovating our California bungalow since we moved in 9 years ago. My husband, Nick is a general contractor and I own a women’s clothing store, Flaunt Boutique. We live in the San Francisco bay area with our 2 young kids.
When Luciane asked me to contribute to her inspiring series, Beautiful Home of Instagram, my jaw hit the floor. I’m just your average suburban mom who also loves to create a beautiful home. I love the home decor community on Instagram and I get so much inspiration and many of my design ideas from there.
So, let me show you around my cozy California bungalow home that we purchased 9 years ago. When we first bought our home, it was a blank slate. The previous owner didn’t do any improvements so the house needed some serious TLC, which is perfect for me!”
Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Fall Decor
There are lots of things that we love about our home, but one of the first things that drew me to this one when we were looking was the front porch.
Fall Decor
Fall decor makes this front porch feel even more magical! I am loving the string lights and the faux candles. What a nice touch!
Outdoor Sconce: Rejuvenation.
Beautiful Lantern Pendants: here, here & here.
Hello, Pumpkin!
I like to use as many natural elements in my fall porch decor as possible. Lots of pumpkins, cornstalks, hay bales and mums were all that I needed to create this fun and festive neutral fall front porch!
Doormats: Wreath Doormat & Black and White Runner.
Siding Paint Color
The exterior paint color is “Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter”.
Hang Chairs
Our hanging chairs are one of our favorite spots to sit and watch the kids play and visit with our neighbors.
Fall Pillows: here, here, here & here.
Round Outdoor Rug: Target – similar here, here & here.
Hanging Chairs: Serena & Lily.
Summer Vibes
This is how Ashley decorates this space for summer: “I added a small table out here for setting drinks on and used an affordable circle rug to ground the space. New pillows and cute beach towels bring this space to life.”
Pillows: Serena & Lily.
Knit Pillows: Target.
Beach Towels: Serena & Lily.
Front Door
Our front door is by Pella and is painted Clark and Kensington’s Mountainside Vista. Although, I admit, I love to change the color of my front door. This is the 3rd color it’s been in 3 years and I’m already contemplating another change!
Meet the Homeowner!
This is the beautiful and talented, Ashley from @modernglamhome. I am sure you guys will love her home as much I do!
Living Room
My personal design rule is to buy all my furniture in neutral shades. Having a neutral foundation makes it’s easy to switch out the accessories for each season.
Pair of Stools: Serena & Lily.
Rattan Chair: Serena & Lily.
Fireplace
Fireplace tile is Calcutta gold fish scale tile.
Tile: here & here – similar.
Mirror: Anthropologie.
Sweet Dreams
I am loving seeing Ashley’s puppies around the house… They’re adorable!
Side table is from Serena & Lily.
Hats
A quick and easy update I made for summer was creating this hat wall. I pulled all the sunhats out of my closet and hung them on the wall!
Beautiful Blankets: here, here, here, here, here, here & here.
Draperies: here – similar.
Hardware: here – similar.
Paint Color
All of our walls are painted Benjamin Moore’s Cotton Balls. I love the soft white color that has a touch of cream in it. We also painted our ceilings and trim the same color but in different sheens. This makes the room seem larger when all the colors are the same.
My walls are a satin finish, where the trim is semi gloss and the ceiling is flat. This creates a cohesive look that expands the room and makes it seem bigger!
Sofa Sectional: Pottery Barn Big Sur Sectional.
Coffee Table: Serena & Lily.
Chairs: Serena & Lily.
Rug: Serena & Lily.

Dining Room
My style is pretty eclectic. I love to mix different styles and use new, modern and antique pieces in the same space. My dining room is a perfect example of that. We have a rustic farmhouse table made of reclaimed oak with an ornate trestle base. I paired this traditional piece with modern lucite chairs. I love the mix of old and new!
Dining Table: here, here, here & here – similar.
Lighting
Chandelier: Visual Comfort Darlana Linear Chandelier – similar here.
Fall-Inspired
To stick with the modern farmhouse fall table theme, I added some casual yet neutral plaid napkins and a white pumpkin to each place setting.
Dining Chairs: here – similar.
Fall Tablescape
Fall Tablescape: “A mix of bay leaves, olive branches and rosemary stems were all I needed to create this fall centerpiece. Add in a few neutral white pumpkins, some candles and it’s the easiest centerpiece to create!”
Plates: Target.
Mugs: here & here – similar.
Kitchen
One of the first rooms we tackled when we first moved in was our kitchen. We originally painted the cabinets and installed new Calcutta Gold marble countertops. This spring, we underwent another remodel and replaced all the cabinetry, added open shelving and integrated appliances. The new design is more efficient and I love the warmth that the open shelves bring to this space!
Counterstools: McGee & Co. – Others: here, here, here, here & here.
Lighting: Visual Comfort.
Cabinet Paint Color
Our kitchen cabinets are maple with Benjamin Moore’s Simply White paint.
Kitchen Faucet: Delta.
Sink: Kohler.
Backsplash
Backsplash is a 3×6 white subway tile.
Open Shelves
The open shelving in our recently remodeled kitchen are from Ultra Shelf and you can order any size shelf to fit your space.
Hardware: Schoolhouse Edgecliff Pulls.
Metal Basket: McGee & Co.
Mixer: KitchenAid.
White Oak & Subway Tiles
I love the white oak and the warmth that it adds to our kitchen.
Countertop: Calcutta Gold Marble countertop.
Sconces: Visual Comfort – – similar here, here & here.
Wooden Bread Boards: here & here.
Breakfast Room
The breakfast room features a custom banquette and a marble tulip dining table from Design within Reach.
Similar Dining Table: here & here.
Stay Awhile Sign: Etsy.
Dining Chairs
Lucite Chairs: All Modern.
Hardwood Flooring
Another big project that we completed this year was to replace all the hardwood flooring. It’s amazing what a difference it makes in the overall feel and brightness inside your home.
New hardwood floor is California Classics in their Mediterranean Collection – color is called Vittoria – similar here & here.
Master Bedroom
Pink is my favorite color and our bedroom and closet are a true reflection of this love. My husband even loves this color. Pink in the bedroom is very romantic and has a glow at night that is ethereal.
Platform Bed: Pottery Barn.
Pillows
Pillows are from Serena & Lily.
Blush Pink Throw Pillow: Target.
Paint Color
Our bedroom is one of the only rooms that is painted a color other than white. I chose Benjamin Moore’s Gentle Butterfly.
Artwork: Minted.
Decor
Headboard: West Elm.
Acrylic Console Tables: CB2 – similar here.
Mongolian Lamb Stool: West Elm.
Sconces: Savoy House.
Artwork: Minted.
Bedding
Bedding is from Serena & Lily (my favorite bedding!): Duvet Cover & Sheet Set.
Throw: Anthropologie (Discontinued).
African Juju Hat: here – similar.
Basket: World Market – Other Beautiful Baskets: here & here.
Dressing Room
Another favorite room in our home is our walk-in closet. It’s honestly what sold me on our house. We updated the space 5 years ago with built in cabinets, leopard carpeting and beautiful finishes. It’s a true reflection of my personal style.
Our leopard carpet is from a local carpet store.
Hardware: LuxHoldups.
Lighting
I painted the ceiling and walls Calamine by Farrow and Ball. It was the perfect jumping off point for the rest of the room.
Lighting: Arteriors Osgood Pendant.
Master Bathroom
Our master bathroom is done in classic carrera marble. This room took almost a year to complete! That’s the life of living with a contractor for your husband.
The baskets under the sink hide everyday items such a hairbrushes, my hairdryer and curling iron, and extra towels. All of my makeup and toiletries are stored in the nearby linen closet. Because we only have 2 sets of towels and sheets, there is ample room for all the normal bathroom toiletries and beauty products!
Bathroom apothecary console is from Pottery Barn.
Bathroom Faucets: Pottery Barn.
Mirrors: Pottery Barn.
Sconces: Pottery Barn.
Shower Tiles: Carrara Marble.
Spa-like
One of my favorite parts of our bathroom is the large soaking tub. It is the prettiest focal point and serves as a true sanctuary after a long day.
Lighting: Visual Comfort – one of my favorite chandeliers!
Faux Fiddle Lead Tree: World Market – similar here.
Tub: Kingston Brass.
Rug: Kismet Rug – similar here.
Backyard
Since we live in the bay area, California, where the housing prices are insane and lot sizes are minuscule, creating an outdoor living area as an extension of our indoors allows us to expand our living space. And with California weather, we can use these areas 9 months out of the year.
Pillows: Serena & Lily.
Ottoman Coffee Table: Serena & Lily.
Chairs
Rattan Egg Chair: Target’s Opalhouse.
Accent Chairs: Target’s Opalhouse Brittana – also in Loveseat.
Beautiful Outdoor Umbrellas: here & here.
Outdoor Sofa
A long sofa meant for the outdoors is soft and neutral. This allows me to change the colors year to year. I offset the sofa with two oversized chairs and added a small outdoor coffee table in the middle. This allows us to set food or drinks on it.
The sofa we have had for a few years now. It was a great find from the Restoration Hardware outlet. I love that the cushions are a soft gray that make them completely versatile to new color schemes!
Beautiful Outdoor Sofas: here, here, here & here.
Rug: Target.
Gather
Our backyard isn’t big, but we love to spend time out here and gather with friends and family.
Merlot & S’mores
We also recently updated our side yard and have a great space for making s’mores and enjoying a glass of wine or two.
Chairs: Serena & Lily.
Pillows: Serena & Lily.
Many thanks to Ashley for sharing the details above. Please, make sure to follow her on Instagram to see more!

Sensational Bathrooms With Natural Timeless Elegance
http://cdn.home-designing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/freestanding-bathtub-600x600.jpg
Bathrooms both big and small can become sensational spaces when given the right aesthetics, but where to begin? This extensive gallery of incredible bathroom design comes to us from worldwide bathroom product manufacturers, Cocoon. Timeless elegance threads through this inspirational modern collection, along with a tangible passion for craftsmanship and the prolific use of natural materials. The three ideals come together to form bathrooms that are not only stunning but innately comforting, and confidently radiate distinct personal identity. These are inviting spaces that evoke a blissful feeling of shelter, safe from the outside world. A place to rest, unwind and restore mind, body and spirit.
Deeply textured rustic stone walls present the perfect backdrop for our first incredible bathroom design. A magnificent arch in the stonework divides the space between a combined bathtub & shower zone, and a separate double bathroom vanity area.
A glass wall holds the bathroom design in visual connection with an adjoined bedroom. The black framed screen contains the shower splash zone, and compliments its black base unit.
Moving away from the deep texture of natural stone, this bathroom gains defined lines from a sleek cast vanity. The natural element comes in via warm rustic woods and rattan accessories.
A whitewashed wood floor lays down a laid back look, along with casually scattered eclectic finds. A sleek freestanding modern bathtub beautifully juxtaposes the rough and rustic vibe.
Moving around this vast bathroom space becomes a naturally inspired adventure with the introduction of pebble beds and stepping stone slabs.
The bath tub is cast in the same warming tone as the stone floor, building a gentle, soothing palette that the eye can move over easily without jarring contrast.
Tropical gardens grow a botanical real life wallpaper around the glass walls of the bathroom. The glass slides open to let in calming nature sounds and scents.
A united pale palette is given interest with two types of wall texture, chevron flooring, and a unique wall mirror.
Rustic stonework reins to the rafters in this one of a kind space. A pure white textured block backs an open plan shower area, accessorised with dark grey brushed steel.
A unique bathtub is the show stopping piece in this pale grey luxury bathroom scheme. Rounded corners smooth off its rectangular outline, whilst an inner lip supports a custom bath caddy that’s perfect to hold a glass of something bubbly.
Even smaller sized bathrooms can accommodate interesting decor installations. This very shallow shelving design elegantly accentuates the positioning of a gorgeous bathtub.
Crafted from one solid block of natural stone, this bathtub makes an incredibly distinctive hero piece.
Sophisticated in its simplicity, this solid stone double sink bathroom vanity is complemented by an equally linear vanity mirror.
Descending from the ceiling, a highly unusual faucet fills this marble pedestal sink. Smoked mirror makes an atmospheric backdrop.
A small island divides the trough of this smart double vanity unit, offering up a resting spot for bathroom essentials.
A single version of the vanity featured above.
Grey pedestal sinks and a matching bathtub are cast in Cocoon’s ‘solid surface’, a non-porous stone-like material. Elliptical wall mirrors complement the curvaceous border of the room.
A slice has been taken out of a bathroom wall to house a recessed vanity area, and a top mounted mirror.
The cuboid basin slots satisfyingly into the base of the nook.
On trend green paintwork and a modern geometric floor complement the timeless elegance of a black marble basin.
Black solid surface casting forms a seductive bathtub design, beneath a contemporary swing arm wall lamp.
Mirror image style double vanities stand at the core of this large bathroom design. The double sided combo forms a freestanding element, rather conforming to traditional peripheral restriction.

$1.8 Million Homes in California
Redlands | $1.7995 Million
An 1888 Victorian with eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms in two units; a two-bedroom, two-bathroom carriage house; and a one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage; on a 0.79-acre corner lot
This house, known as Gray Gables, was built in redwood as a private residence. It was later incorporated into the grounds of the Wissahickon Inn, once a stopping place for notables like Gloria Vanderbilt and Eleanor Roosevelt on their way to Palm Springs, 45 miles southeast. (Los Angeles is 66 miles west.) After falling into disrepair and almost being razed, the property was restored, beginning in 2016, as a family complex, with a rebuilt foundation, new mechanicals and antique and period reproduction details. It is in a historic district two miles south of the city center.
Size: 3,600 square feet (in the main house)
Price per square foot: $499
Indoors: A 2,000-square-foot veranda with intricate woodwork based on the original wraps around three sides of the main house. Inside are engineered hardwood floors (as well as sculpted carpet in the first-floor bedroom) and 10-foot ceilings in most rooms.
The living room has eight-foot-high casement windows with bronze bolts and a Victorian reproduction bronze globe chandelier and wall sconces. Down the hall is a dining room with an arched ceiling, acorn chandelier and Dutch door. It opens to an eat-in kitchen with marble-topped bead-board cabinets, a white subway tile backsplash, a cast-iron sink and cast-iron light fixtures. The six-burner gas cooktop and electric convection oven are set in a reproduction antique stove.
The first-floor bedroom suite includes a Victorian chandelier suspended from an 11-foot ceiling and a large closet with custom shelves. The private bathroom, with its open shower, is ADA-compliant.
The original staircase has been stained to match the flooring. Decorated with globe and acorn finials, it is lit by a vintage pendant lamp.
The three upstairs bedrooms include a master suite with cathedral windows offering mountain views and a bathroom with a penny-round-tiled shower, a toilet closet with a bidet and a reproduction Victorian vanity with a double sink and an antique mirror. There is also a guest suite, a bedroom with a gable window, an office with an industrial pendant light and a hall bathroom with a claw-foot tub and an industrial pipe light fixture with Edison bulbs. The second floor contains a laundry room with a gas-dryer hookup, as well.
A second unit of about 1,700 square feet with a private entrance occupies the basement. It has three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a living room with French doors that open to a front patio and a kitchen with white Shaker cabinets and granite countertops.
Also on the property are a two-bedroom, two-bathroom carriage house that is approximately 1,100 square feet on two floors and an 800-square-foot cottage with one bedroom and one bathroom.
Outdoor space: Wrought-iron fencing encircles the property and incorporates an electric driveway gate. The grounds are planted with roses, bougainvillea, cypress, lavender bushes and orange, apricot and loquat trees. There are three notable mature specimen trees: a live oak, a pine and a palm. The yard includes statuary and a bocce court.

San Francisco | $1.795 Million
A 1916 clapboard cottage with three bedrooms and one bedroom, on a 0.06-acre lot
From the front porch and upper floor of this house on Portrero Hill, you can see downtown San Francisco and the bay. Across the road is a park with a baseball field, playground and recreation center. Schools, shops, restaurants, breweries and groceries are in the immediate neighborhood, as are train and bus service to downtown. Routes 101 to the west and 280 to the east facilitate commuting to Silicon Valley.
Size: 1,457 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,232
Indoors: The main level has hardwood floors and shiplap-paneled walls and ceiling. On the right side, as you face the back, is a living room with a bay window and built-in bookshelves, followed by an open dining area. Both rooms (and the rest of the home) have been freshly painted and include new lighting.
Immediately to the left is a guest bedroom. Beyond it are a staircase (a walk-in closet built under the stairs serves as a pantry) and a U-shaped kitchen with grooved cabinets and white-tile countertops and backsplashes. Finally, there is a room leading out to the back that could be used as a study, guest quarters or music room.
The two upstairs bedrooms include a guest room facing front and a master with French doors opening to a private balcony overlooking the backyard. The single bathroom is on the main floor and has wood-paneled walls and cabinets, red-tile floors, a pedestal sink and a claw-foot tub with a shower head.
The lower level includes a garage with parking for one large car or two small ones and a bonus room, reached from outside, that could be used as a studio or yoga room.
Outdoor space: The backyard includes a concrete seating area and a garden with mature lemon and lime trees and a large Norfolk pine. The driveway offers parking for two additional cars, side by side.
Taxes: $22,438 (estimated)

Los Angeles | $1.795 Million
A midcentury-modern house built in 1958, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, on a 0.3-acre lot
This home is in upper Benedict Canyon, in the Beverly Hills Post Office district (with a 90210 ZIP code). The area is a 16-mile drive from downtown Los Angeles and is fringed with nature and its creatures (owls, coyotes and the occasional bobcat). It is two miles below Mulholland Drive and close to a number of hiking trails.
Size: 1,530 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,173
Indoors: Marvin Beck, a local architect, designed the house for himself and his wife. A later owner opened the kitchen to the living room and installed two sets of accordion-fold glass doors in back to dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. The current owner renovated the master bathroom last year, using slate tile on the walls and a Carrara marble vanity top.
The front door (reached by an exterior flight of stairs) is clad in tongue-and-groove slats that are echoed inside, starting with a floating closet in the foyer that has no visible hardware and opens with a push.
The living room includes a skylight, a wall of built-in drawers and shelves and a fireplace with a combed-basalt surround and hearth. The millwork is echoed in a low partition wall and in the cabinetry in the adjacent kitchen. The golden color is offset by royal blue Viking appliances, patterned glass backsplash tile and honed black granite countertops.
The master is the only room in the house that does not have direct access to the outdoors. It does have book-matched paneled walls and a mirrored closet extending across the entire length.
The guest bedroom has a slatted closet with invisible hardware that runs the length of one wall; it has use of a bathroom with a clerestory window and a walk-in shower faced in the original buttercup-yellow tile. A third bedroom was converted into an open den. Sliding-glass doors in both guest rooms lead to the backyard.
The lower level includes a one-car garage, laundry area and storage.
Outdoor space: The flat, spacious property (unusual in this hilly area) is landscaped with plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. A brick patio beyond the folding-glass doors is partially covered by a latticed canopy. Stone-and-gravel paths lead to seating areas in the terraced gardens.

Agilenano - News: An Epic Brownstone Remodel Hits the Reset Button
A couples own pied--terre in their townhouse is finally complete
Over a couple of years, Janet and Jerry, a couple from Long Island who bought a historic Crown Heights, Brooklyn brownstone, embarked on a bottom-to-top renovation. After remodeling two of the floors as rentals with Sweeten, (See blog posts for thethird floor and garden level) we get the details on the final apartment,a project high point indeed as it marks the completion of the townhouses top floor and the pairs own NYC pied--terre.
The backstory: The duo knew when they closed on the circa 1910 building, a bring your architect purchase in need of a total gutting, that a big job lay ahead. Janet, president of the New York School of Design, and Jerry, a doctor, posted the project on Sweeten, a renovation platform connecting homeowners to vetted general contractors, and hired a Sweeten architect and a Sweeten contractor. Read how a neglected and cramped one-bedroom gives way to a space with a loft-like feeling.
After photos byPixy Interiors for Sweeten
Blog post by homeowner Jerry as told to Sweeten
This is it. Our apartment. The pied--terre weve long waited to move into. We have a primary residence on Long Island, but we work in NYC and spend about half our time here. We decided to invest in a multi-family townhouse in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, rent the main units and keep the smaller, fourth-floor apartment for ourselves.
From the time we first saw the top-floor space, we knew it would be our nest. Like the other apartments, this one-bedroom unit needed work. It was dark and chopped up, the kitchen was a wreck and the bathroom was in disrepair. We started thinking about how to refresh the under 600-square-foot space and make it feel larger. Our goal was to create an open and airy studio. We planned to maximize natural light and use natural materials for an organic feel.
In our projects earlier phases, wed worked to preserve the buildings architectural features. But in this unit, previous renovations had removed most original detail. Hardwood floors had been replaced with linoleum. Moldings that might have graced the overhead plaster were forgone for a drop ceiling. Only the window moldings and the fireplace remained. Given this situation, we felt free to rethink the space. We decided to use modern elements, bringing in Scandinavian style and Californian mid-century modernism as influences to the new interior.
These subtle architectural elements bring the space together while simultaneously differentiating the sleeping and living rooms.
Our Sweeten architects worked closely with Janet to achieve several architectural changes. First, we moved the entrance from the fourth floor down to the third, making the stairway part of the apartments interior. This increased privacy and usable space, and also allowed us to increase the living rooms natural light with a skylight at the top of the stairs.
Next, we exposed the living-room ceiling. Opening it to the original wooden beams provided for more vertical space and a lofty room.Initially, we were going to paint the wooden ceiling and exposed beams white. Our Sweeten contractor suggested the beams looked really good unpainted and unfinished. The adjacent sleeping area, however, would have a new lowered ceiling, and an archway. Together these subtle architectural elements bring the space together while simultaneously differentiating the sleeping and living rooms.
A key facet of our design concept, the arch plays nicely with horizontal lines throughout the apartment, including the exposed beams and the long kitchen countertop. It also connects with a number of graceful curves, like the rounded mirror over the restored fireplace and the rounded lighting fixtures.
With the ceiling beautified, we moved to the problematic floors, which were covered in vinyl and old carpeting. We wanted natural wood and after much searching, we chose white-oak flooring and planned to lay it in a custom herringbone, or chevron, pattern. Unfortunately, there was a long lead time for the wood to be custom cut (nearly two months, as the supplier told us that it would require shipping the planks to Europe), not to mention a high price. Just before going back to the drawing board, we found a pre-cut herringbone at half the price. It came out fantastic.
Once the floors were down we were ready to build the kitchen. We wanted dark wood cabinets, and while we were planning, Ikea came out with a new style that not only looked great but pleased our budget! We wanted countertops that would compliment the cabinets and wear well, and considered marble, granite, and a few synthetic materials, but ultimately chose soapstone for its durability and appearance. The veined black goes nicely with the apartments other dark features and looks fantastic as a backsplash. To stay minimal, we hid appliances in cabinets; our washer/dryer combo, fridge, and pull-out freezer all fit under the counter.
The pendant lights over the kitchen counter, the chandelier above the old fireplace, and the bedroom fixtures are simultaneously industrial, modern, casual, and polished.
In the bathroom, we managed another stunning redesign thanks to our Sweeten architects. The shower, a vertical space with a skylight, is flooded by day with natural sunlight, making it feel almost like its outside. One disappointment that turned out fine was with the stone floor tiles. We spent a lot of time picking them out, but after accepting our order, the supplier said that only one box of tile was available. Our contractor solved the issue by taking a large slab of the same stone and custom cutting it into a single 3x3 shower base as well as a door saddle, and a stone shelf. We chose an in-wall toilet to maximize space.
Having knocked down walls and invited light in every way imaginable, we felt successful in our visual opening of the space. We went even further by creating an outdoor area. The roof had formerly been inaccessible but we replaced a window with a glass door; it leads to a new roof deck with views of the neighborhood and Manhattan in the distance.
Through it all, we felt lucky to work with Sweeten, which connected us with both our architect and contractor and helped us troubleshoot on many occasions. The process came with so many rewards. While Janet says she most appreciated the design work and creative discussions, Im just enjoying our apartment! Its like staying in a nice hotel with a feeling of being home. The best of both worlds.
Thank you, Jerry and Janet, for sharing your entire home with us!

Two Punchy Modern Apartments With Red And Blue Decor
Blue hues and tones from the red colour spectrum come together in two modern home interiors, each designed by Nika Vorotyntseva & Dmytro Potomkin. By combining colours from opposite ends of the scale–one warm, one cold–an equal balance is achieved. The floor plans of these colourful apartments are both comfortably compact and of an open plan layout. The properties are two bedroom, with each featuring a kids bedroom and two modern bathrooms to facilitate the needs of a growing family. See how picking out a punchy colour palette that features contrasting colours can breathe energy and youth into a modern home, and how those tones can be tweaked to thread through every room of the house.
Photographer: Sergey Savchenko Located in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the first apartment design has a floor area of 98 square metres. The interior has a lot of airy white space with some natural wooden elements. A sky blue feature wall provides the colour in the room, along with a couple of rouge accent pieces.
The kitchen has been designed as a hive of activity, with an L-shaped cabinet installation that works around a six seater dining set. The remaining wall of the open plan kitchen is busy with display shelving units, wall mounted from top to bottom.
The lounge area has its own open shelving design on a much smaller scale, though it is coupled with some white storage cupboards to hold more items. The sofa has been moved slightly toward the centre of the room to accommodate the storage units, making extra use of the wall space in the small apartment. Blue and red scatter cushions add a bright pop to the stone grey sofa, which is teamed up with an auburn colour accent chair.
The blue panels of the tv wall decor dominate the pale room. Their glossy surface helps bounce natural light into the long space from large windows at the far end.
The kitchen cabinets stand in a white finish along the baseline, with wooden cabinet doors covering the upper half.
The open shelving units on one side of the kitchen are spaced out to reveal a mosaic tiled effect. Their contents aren’t strictly pertaining to the kitchen or dining room but simply serve the living area in general, as this walkway is a thoroughfare into and out of the multipurpose room.
SIx white modern dining chairs line up along the sides of a wooden table. A square fruit bowl has been positioned as a centrepiece.
The L-shaped kitchen has a colourless glass backsplash and white countertops to keep the look simple. The small run of wooden wall cabinets work nicely in tying it with the white and wood dining set.
A blue-grey wall clock decorates the space above some open kitchen shelving, which stands straight on the worktop as one integrated piece.
Stainless steel appliances, a chrome faucet and grey edging trims the white kitchen.
A striped blue runner adds a homey touch to a plain hallway, which is lined from end to end with made-to-measure closets.
Modern terrazzo walls and ceiling create a pattern of multicolour inside of the kid’s room. Blue tones are picked out by the kids’ bed, and by some Ikea Mammut kid’s chairs. A beanbag chair brings in some red.
Narrow shelves hold knick-nacks and display favourite books on the opposite wall.
The kid’s closets are plain white but a great fun shape.
Decor in the master bedroom is a lot more peaceful, though red and blue tones do follow here too. Natural woodtone flanks each side of colourful wall art, with a white pendant light hanging in front. More bedroom pendant lights here.
Red bedside units stand out against a dark wall.
In contrast to the pendant light that equips one side of the bed, a bedside table lamp serves the other.
A small minimalist workspace has been set up using a custom-cut desktop and a simple desk chair.
Sloths swing in the kid’s bathroom.
The vanity mirror is on a wall of teal tiles, mounted above a red-orange vanity unit. Contrasting colour packs the decor scheme with punch.
Decor in the master bathroom is more subtle and refined.
A slatted panel adds interest to the pale grey and white scheme.
Apartment number two is located in Kiev, Ukraine, and has a floor area of 140 square metres. In this living room, our red feature colour has been diluted to blush tones.
A blush coloured modern winged chair is pulled up alongside a teal console unit at the tv wall. More gorgeous accent chairs here.
There is another blue feature wall inside this flat, but this time with a ribbed effect.
The feature wall runs the full length of the lounge and dining area.
A delicate Heracleum Endless Suspension Light crowns the dining room.
The door at the end of the dining room opens up to reveal a closet and a colourful design.
One white modern wall sconce extends from the blue feature wall, to softly illuminate the sofa. White marble floor tiles give the space a glossy luxe look.
Moving through from the dining room, an open doorway leads around to a galley kitchen arrangement with a teal accent wall.
Taller units on the other side of the walkway extend the culinary space.
A bright chartreuse stool marks the home entryway just off the kitchen.
We see a continuation of the colourful door design across one entire wall of the master suite. A comfy bedroom chair picks up on the blue hue from the mural.
The headboard is upholstered in red wine coloured fabric. Copper lighting descends to the bedside.
A mirror finish shines on small side table beneath the copper pendant.
The bedroom is accessed by a portiere, which is seen here on the left hand side.
At the back of the bedroom there is an ensuite behind a glass wall, which borrows natural light from the bedroom windows.
White marble tiles clad the bathroom walls and floor.
The kid’s room is coloured by a blue bed, and an accent wall behind the study area.
An interesting tile effect peps up a grey bathroom.
