Gotten a bit behind on sharing my mechs, haven't I?
Well, here's what I've gotten done in the last month. Been doing some stylistic experiments. You might be seeing more matte colored mechs with edge highlighting soon. As much as I love my metallicsI do adore how this stone rhino came out.

More Battlemechs
More Battlemechs, this time the duo of Clan upgrades of venerable dual PPC wielding heavy mechs that turn them into assaults, the Marauder IIC and the Warhammer IIC. The scheme for these two was inspired by a recent replay of Starfox 2 and the characters Fay and Miyu's Arwings. (They each have like half a sentence of lore but I would DIE for them.) I think they'll fit in nicely with my cartoon Jade Falcons as hypothetical Season 2 mechs.

Nice, what's the fluorescent paint you used? I've got good work out of Green Stuff World's Fluor line.
A photo of my custom Battletech Mercenary company so far- The Outrun Suns, painted up in a cool Outrun inspired color scheme- including florescent paint for some detailing and highlights. This really makes them pop under blacklight- which the photos unfortunately don't do justice.
I have plans for a few more mechs and vehicles with these, a shadowhawk, and a Marauder for starters. Out of these I think the Marauder IIC is my favorite though.

finally making this poll:
no stats, just vibes, pick the 'Mech this man gets cored, repeatedly, because he doesn't know any tactics other than "alpha strike" and "DFA"
for the record, all 'Mechs pictured are ones I'm interested in acquiring anyway, INFLUENCE MY DECISIONS
#the expanse#battletech#expanse battletech as#marco inaros#there's two clan mechs in this poll despite my approximate date of BTAU NG and BA as 3029-30 because of the whole#'duarte is a clan wolf quisling the entire time' thing#project phoenix versions of the marauders used because well why would we give him a good one?#honestly the PP IIC isn't that bad?#like clan 'mechs are all kind of weird looking anyway and it actually does look almost marauder-y but very 'we have a marauder at home'

Alllrighty, this post has been long overdue, but not so long ago, I commissioned @radnewworld for a company of mechs!
Left to right, top to bottom, King Crab, (regular) Crab, Akuma, Atlas, Raven, Hatamoto-Chi, Hatamoto-Chi 2, Vulture, Catapult, Warhammet, Bullshark, Hollander, Marauder IIC, & a second Vulture.
As you may have gathered from my previous posts, the package kinda got beat the fuck out of it by Shipping & Manhandling, but all have been repaired nigh seamlessly. Offscreen are two other mechs, a Fafnir which needs to be re-primed due to postal shenanigans, as well as an extra special secret something I'm hoping to show off once it's fully painted. It's gonna be great.
And thanks again to @radnewworld for the excellent post-delivery support. Highly recommend.
Csn't wait to start painting. Literally. I already started on the crab lol

Oh my, the -6 having those jump jet capabilities definitely makes it a tempting choice for my next trial of possession.
Greetings Star Captain, I humbly request your thoughts upon the Marauder IIC
The, as young Spheroids say, CHONKIER Marauder.
It is generally equivalent of better than the original, with the same speed, better armor, and a heavier weapons array. Thee ERPPCs, two Medium Pulse Lasers, and four ER Small Lasers are a formidable combination, and while it generates much heat, it can be managed well enough.
In the interest of not annoying @starcommanderhannahlewis I shall not mention the -2 or -3 variants.
The -4, with its twin HAG 40s and jump jets, is a formidable Ghost Bear variant that I have had the pleasure of piloting once, and finding quite enjoyable.
I must of course, praise the -5 and -6 variants, as they are products of my own Clan. Either is an excellent 'Mech, though I find the -5 more appealing.

The Black Marauder IIC
Turnaround:
WIPs:
The "Black Marauder" is a horror story of a cursed mech. Over the years urban legend has built it up into some kind of extradimensional beast, a living machine that moves of its own volition, consumes the souls of its victims and strikes fear in all that come close to it. It emerges from mist and shadows to kill efficiently and mercilessly before disappearing once more.
So I know the story says it looks like an inner sphere MAD-3R, but the way it's described as looking "Off-proportioned" and "Too smooth, almost organic-looking" makes me think it's a IIC. That and it having "Teeth", which the IIC's array of chin-lasers could be mistaken for. It also has a tendency to oneshot mechs with PPCs to the cockpit, which only Clan PPCs have the damage to do reliably. It performs unusually well in smoke/fog (advanced clan sensors perhaps?). Maybe the pirates didn't recognize what they were looking at given they lived on the opposite side of IS space from the Clan invasion front. It's also black with bits of red, the paint scheme of a certain Wolf's Dragoons "mercenary company" (read: Clan spies roaming IS space) which would explain the lack of factory markings/serial numbers. The stories mention weird behavior and unidentifiable mechanical issues so it could've been left behind since it was a liability, stripped of insignia and left on a forsaken airless asteroid in some random uninhabited system to conceal the trail. That's just my pet theory, anyway.
Pictured: Teefies (and bloody claws)
This one was difficult for a different reason, not painting this time but being my first time working with greenstuff and sculpting/modifying a miniature.
The paint job itself was fairly quick because of the almost uniform coloration despite the number of steps: -Primed with matte black -basecoated with Night Scales metallic black (It barely shows up, there is a faint glitter in some spots but mostly it looks like a slightly lighter black.) -Heavily drybrushed with Rough Iron, a dark rust color metallic -Lighter drybrush with Gunmetal, grayish/silver metallic. at this point I thought it was too light/shiny so I went over some panels with matte black paint, keeping away from the edges I'd drybrushed. -Mars Red in the eyeholes. White on the lasers/cockpit later covered with Red/Green/Blue speedpaint. -Blood Red speedpaint over the "monstrous" bits. It disappeared into the black, until: -Gloss varnish over the speedpaint brought the red back out again. I wanted everything to be black but still have the monster bits to stand out texturally, the gloss makes them glisten nicely. -Anti-shine matte varnish on the rest. That still looks pretty shiny to me but what can you do (Vantablack miniature paint, anyone??) -The label says MAD-BLK in the Standard Galactic Alphabet. At some point I knew how to read/write it after it featured in Minecraft enchantments, though by now I lost that and had to look it up.
The sculpting was interesting. -Green stuff is tacky and sticks to my fingers when fresh, hard to apply to the model in a careful manner, but is pretty easily workable on the model, once it's on. At some points I used metal sculpting tools almost like chopsticks to avoid touching it with my hands. I twisted a pointed tool like a little drill bit to get the eyeholes in. -Getting closer to the 1hr mark it stiffens up and becomes the opposite. Easier to apply and get off my fingers but harder to work into the shapes I want and fit in the crevices for a good hold. -The claws are superglued given they're sticking out a fair bit. Roughed up the plastic surface before applying glue for a better bond. The other greenstuff I trusted to stay on since they were molded into the surfaces pretty closely. -The blood was red ink Speedpaint mixed with good old AK water medium.
I'll have to do more modding in future, truly customize my mechs.
Last Lance of Cardinal Sins featured a Zeus, only too late did I have the idea of modding a ZEU-X with the wing-like cooling vanes. Fortunately I have a King Crab waiting for me (my favorite mech!) to make a prototype KGC-010 with. It has flush-mounted dual PPCs with spiky cooling vanes sticking out the back. Should be fun.

how many IS-tech machineguns can you stick inside a theoretical Marauder (not the II or IIC). it doesn't have to be Good, or Combat Viable. I just want to know how many angry beehives you can stuff in that frame.
Depends on the context. Are we replacing the Ac/5 with Machine Guns? The PPCs?
(Also came to mind- Ah yes, the HBK-4MG "Box of Angry Bees'" older brother)

My Formal Apology to the Gargoyle C
You are the bonkers half of a kodiak, I apologize.
I will use you in my next 10k or 7k BV game as an unexpected pick to surprise my local game group.
If my game group buddies can torture me with a Fire Moth H, I get to reply in kind with my goofy assault mech nuke. Is the plan likely to work? Probably not. Is it incredibly funny if someone's mech takes both hits from the UAC/20 and all of the lasers and becomes past-tense in the opening phases of the game? Yes, absolutely.
Godspeed, goofy Gargoyle C. Perhaps you might live to see another day after sprinting at a dead run towards the closest Gunslinger/Battlemaster/Marauder IIC/Warhammer IIC.

My first Battletech 'Mech, the Marauder IIC (specifially, the Marauder IIC 2).
This bad boy is kind of a PPC beast in-game, someday I'll get the rest of his star painted up and get some more games in. I'm pretty fond of Battletech, it's just a straight up fun time.
Went for a Jade Falcons-esque scheme since their over-the-top "Clan-ness" is kind of endearing to me in a strange way. I might mix it up and go for a more varied "Merc" look in the future, though.
As always, more details under the cut:
Now stop me if you've heard this one before, but it always happens to come up when you talk about Battletech; there are a good number of Mech designs "borrowed" from Japanese designers like Shōji Kawamori or Kunio Okawara, and without getting too deep into the weeds on that, as a fan of those original designs, I am obviously a fan of their Battletech equivalents (and descendants, in this case). In my opinion, one design that translates particularly well to the Battletech "look" is the Marauder (or Glaug, as it was known originally in Macross), and this specific variant of the higher-tech Omnimech version of the Marauder just ticks all the boxes for me.
On the left, the Glaug, on the right, the Marauder IIC 2. Yeah, I know, but it could be a lot worse, alright?
Enough semantics! What about the miniature? Well, not to dive right into harsh words right off the bat, but this thing is pretty darn huge for a Battletech mini:
Yes he is made up of a small ingot's worth of pewter; yes he is as big as our hefty Touro friend from last time.
Now to be fair, in-universe this mech weighs 85 tons, but as a mecha fan I try to contend with the square-cube law as little as possible, so when my miniature mech consistently collapses under its own weight, it rings a little too close to reality for my liking.
And I know what you're thinking: the pose I glued it into was not the problem; if anything, having a wider stance kept the poor guy more balanced than he would have been just standing flat on his chicken legs.
No, the problem ran in the Marauder's family; having quite a small join from the legs to quite a top heavy "cockpit" area. (seeing the Marauder and the Touro side by side in the picture above does somewhat compound what an "actual" mech might have to look like; I'll admit, even the Touro's miniature felt sturdier...)
Luckily, by being careful with him I've kept the Marauder IIC 2's "days without accident" tally going for a good while now, and luckier still, this design flaw doesn't translate into the game (sort of, I can't remember the gyro stats off the top of my head).
Now Battletech being the game that it is, my first game did involve my poor Marauder instantly getting its cockpit kicked in by a very lucky Black Knight, but that's all part of the fun, and from that moment on I've been hooked.
Pictured above: My mech learning that peeking over a ledge puts your cockpit in a perfect position for punting.

Lads out to play some battletech today. Clan Ghost Bear command star plus some toady friends and a museum piece take on Jade Falcon. We were playing Wolfnet 350 Alpha Strike games- first a king of the hill game mode, then a territory domination mission.
The first game was an argument of speed onto the point vs tonnage in total, with my team moderately fast thicc boys winning the day. It turns out black knights have a lot of armor for their points and summoners and executioners are tankier than their XL engines give them credit for with their TMMs
Second game I decided to do something funky and bring my battle armor to make taking and holding objectives a nightmare. In the process I discovered just how much I like the Viper- my opponent brought a Marauder IIC and a Turkina and my speed meant that they simply couldn't penetrate deep enough into the survivability onion to threaten it consistently. I kinda misplayed one of my BA points but overall my plan of guarding my home objectives and then assaulting forward worked well and I won 3-2 when we timed out.
Because I was such a good mechwarrior I decided I needed a treat so I got a salvage box- Fire Falcon's a really not bad pickup from that!
