In front of the imposing Malolos Cathedral, also known as the Basilica Minore de la Nuestra de Immuculada Conception, stands a very large tree. Locals fondly call it the Kalayaan Tree, which means "freedom tree." There are similar trees around, but only this one has a name being a living witness to several events that happened in Malolos.
It was in nearby Barasoain Church where the convening of the First Philippine Congress was announced on September 15, 1898. Shortly after was the promulgation of the Philippine Constitution, popularly known as the Malolos Constitution on January 21, 1899. Finally, the inauguration of the First Republic of the Philippines on January 23, 1899, becoming the first democratic country in Asia.
The convent beside the cathedral served as the refuge of General Emilio Aguinaldo during the war for independence during the Spanish period and the young kalayaan tree was where the revolutionaries met, planned, and celebrated their losses and victories. General Emilio Aguinaldo eventually became the first president of the republic. A monument was placed under the tree to symbolize the meeting of the revolutionaries and its leaders together with the life size statues of Gregorio del Pilar, General Isidoro Torres, Don Pablo Tecson, Padre Mariano Sevilla, and Doña Basilia Tantoco.
During the Filipino-American war after the short-lived First Philippine Republic, General Aguinaldo ordered General Antonio Luna to burn the convent to kept the all-important documents stored on it from the surging American soldiers. The Kalayaan tree also caught fire but it incredibly survived.
The Siar tree is not native to the Philippines and not known how it reached the country, but today these trees can be found all over the archipelago. It is known to reach a height of nine meters in three years.
In the 1980s, the National Historical Institute and the Tree Preservation Foundation of the Philippines recognized the historical significance of the Kalayaan tree by placing a market under its shade.

Here’s a glimpse of what our first few months together looked like. Days went by so fast, the next thing we knew, we were already celebrating our first month as a couple. I never thought I can be this happy again. It feels as if I found my best friend and soulmate in one person. Everything was perfect, he is perfect. A literal God sent.
Quick back story: back November 16 I guess? Just days before I fly to Bangkok for my “moving on trip”. I went to Church (Malolos Cathedral), prayed and asked God to give me a sign whether I should chase and ask for my ex back or to move on. Regardless, I asked God to give me someone who will love me unconditionally and treat me the way I deserved to be loved and treated. A week and few days after .. BAMMM! God gave me Robi. That’s why whenever people ask me how I met Robi, I always tell them “Itong lalaking to, pinagdasal ko to, hiningi ko to kay Lord”. Not to sound super religious or what but, its true na when you surrender everything to God, he’ll work for you, God has a plan for all of us, even better than the plan we want and thought is best for ourselves. All we have to do is trust in him, and everything will be fine.

Sitio Pariahan.

Tapos nagpunta kami sa Casa Real (Museum of Political History) YOU KNOW WHAT. I LOVE THIS PLACE. KASAYSAYAN IS LIFE HAHA. From Pre-colonial to Post-EDSA Revolution meron dito.
Tapos eto na nga, alam mo ba puro kasalan ang nakikita namin haha tatlong kasal sa Malolos Cathedral at Barasoain Church plus may Bridal Fair sa Robinsons Malolos hahahaha anong meron? IS THIS A SIGN?!
Oh wait.

The first stop was the Malolos Church, known as the Minor Basilica and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception this church is 349 years old. In recent years we go to church every week. This historic church was the power of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Republic of the Philippines in 1896. In outside of immaculate conception there are bronze statue stands in the shade of Kalayaan Tree, which is said to have been planted by General Emilio Aguinaldo himself. Quiet Witnesses of the Unfolding of Great Events in the History of Malolos Cathedral in the Philippines History. A day in a new-normal.
(1)I recall when COVID-19 Pandemic not yet existing, I truly love to go on this spot. I love seeing individuals who are caught up with getting a few stuffs. This spot are constantly packed since in those days everybody is allowed to go there. However, everything has changed, and everybody's joy obliterated by this Pandemic.
(2)The place where everyone visits, the front of Malolos Cathedral. I remember when face to face classes existing, I always want to walk here in front of the church because there's a lot of proven carts there. But then, It’s sad since vendors who earn a small amount of money lost their income due to this pandemic.
(3) The adrenaline rush every time we pass through this pedestrian lane, we will never forget that. The excitement, the thrill, that’s really a wonderful experience.
(4) And finally, the Bangkok Thailand vibes, How authentic this view that you will realize how these places so good.
(5) And of course, the crowd favorite. I remember where every karaoke are always full since all Filipinos are singers by nature. However, seeing these empty makes my heart broken. What a nostalgic feeling.
(6) Mall 2? Here we are! Every time me and my classmates always here to print our school works, and also if we need a 1x1 or 2x2 pictures, this place is our best choice.
Reminiscing these places makes my heart fluttered. It’s still gives a chill if we remember those good all days when COVID-19 Pandemic is not yet existing. Despite the fact that we are facing a pandemic, still, don’t forget to look those places where we create memories that will never be replaced.

IN SEARCH OF CABANATUAN'S TRAIN STATION AND OTHER HERITAGE STRUCTURES After visiting the church and the ancestral houses of Gapan City in Nueva Ecija, I decided to explore Cabanatuan City as well. In particular, I was searching for the city's train station that I saw in a painting by Rufo Bong Sunga, Jr. It was still early during that Sunday morning, so I decided to go to the San Nicolás de Tolentino Cathedral and hear mass. I wasn't able to find out much about the history of the church. What was definite though was that Emilio Aguinaldo moved the government of the First Philippine Republic to Cabanatuan in 1899 after Malolos fell to the Americans. Aguinaldo moved the government again as the Americans closed in on him. Right across the cathedral is the Plaza Lucero, which is more known as the site where General Antonio Luna and his aide, Colonel Francisco Roman, were assassinated by members of President Emilio Aguinaldo's Presidential Guards in 1899. A monument of Luna was erected in Plaza Lucero in memory of the slain general. Interestingly, Luna was born in a house in San Nicolás, Manila, and he was killed in front of the church dedicated to San Nicolás de Tolentino. A full circle, if you ask me. But who is Lucero and why was the plaza named after him? An article written by Neni Sta. Romana Cruz for the Philippine Daily Inquirer last March 9, 2019 gave the answer. The plaza was named after her maternal grandfather, Santiago Estrella Lucero, who was elected senator in 1922. He was caught while fighting against the Americans in 1899 and was imprisoned until 1901. He served as the registrar of deeds and as prosecutor of Nueva Ecija after his release. While waiting for the mass to start; I saw a group of teenagers selling bread outside the cathedral. The bread was round with a white cross on top. One of the teenagers explained that eating the bread, after it has been blessed by the priest, would heal a person's sickness. #newexperiencesinnuevaecija #thetimetrekker https://www.instagram.com/p/CB6okrwh2cV/?igshid=18ng5by61h0e2
