The last episode of the original run of Quantum Leap aired on May 5, 1993. Almost everyone in the episode appeared in previous episodes or reference previously mentioned characters. In theory, Sam lept into himself in August 8, 1953 in a mining town, but it appeared he had actually lept into some kind of limbo possibly meeting God. It was implied that Sam was the one controlling his leaps. Sam went on to alter Al's life. A title card at the end revealed that Sam never returned home again. Oh, to be "Mr Manchester" who just used to casually run into James Maxwell "most evenings" in 1986. (Courtesy of the British Newspaper Archive & the Manchester Evening News).
"Whom do I see strolling through Manchester late on most evenings but James Maxwell, actor and artistic director, whose craggy features are well-known through countless film, television and stage roles.
"I walk home from work at the Royal Exchange Theatre to my urban paradise," he explains, "paradise" being a flat above the Arndale Centre.
"I love it," he says, "but no one living there can be accused of having a morbid interest in old architecture."
One of his many showbiz tales is of when he was in a show at Manchester Opera House in 1953. The scenery didn't work - in fact, some of it fell down - and the distinguished knight playing the lead not only didn't know his lines; at times he didn't know when he had to speak.
The audience was cool, to say the least, and at the end the knight decided he should speak to them.
"I apologise for the mistakes duing the evening," he announced grandly, "but I assure you that everything will be put right by the time we open in London."

& Mr Manchester, at the G-Mex, "jokingly suggested this wasn't [James Maxwell's] kind of theatre.
His instant retaliation would have gladdened G-Mex boss Tony Harrison, sitting along my row. "No, It's everyone's theatre," he retorted.

La última fada by Emilia Pardo Bazán no doubt. I didn't even read it in full but I'm pretty sure that's the first place where i read about Viviane and Merlin's story and the tree and so on. Joseph Bédier's version of Tristan and Iseult too (i mean, i did get properly into Arthurian because of the Tristan and Iseult story. Wild ride). I'll never forget Iseult's faery dog there, truly an MVP.
The wedding of Sir Gawain too for sure Ragnelle changed my brain chemistry. The knight of the cart my beloved. The winter king by Bernard Cornwell was a deciding factor in taking a slightly more historical approach to my setting. Idylls of the queen by Phyllis Ann Karr changed my life for good, it was food for thought and fun to read through and through. Gradalis webcomic is to blame for me suddenly loving Agloval of all people. And finally Culhwch and Olwen for all the lovely names and inadvertently helping me fix a plot hole that was becoming enormous 🙌
Movies & series: Quest for Camelot on account of being my first (childhood) encounter with Arthuriana. BBC Legend of King Arthur because it's the goat. I really love Starz Camelot's characterization of Merlin, taking notes all the time.
What Arthurian media is most influential to you & your art/writing?

Tennessean trans man David Scott Ryan III transitioned in 1949, around age 26. He became a pastor in 1955 while passing as cis and preached throughout Arkansas and Oklahoma for years. Narratives like David's narratives don't often end well, but David successfully fought to live as a man! Here's his story:
Born in rural Oklahoma on 9/22/1923, David privately transitioned in 1949 before marrying his first known wife, chaplain Margie. He then married another woman named Gwyn after leaving Margie in 1953. He later married a third wife, Glenda, in 1960.
David was outed after his 1961 bigamy arrest. It's unclear if his bigamy was accidental or even real. Gwyn filed for divorce in March 1960 before he married Glenda in June, but documents do not show if the divorce was completed. Glenda filed the bigamy complaint herself for unknown reasons. Was it jealousy? Was David outed? Was she feeling neglected? Glenda did not speak with reporters.
David was far from the first trans man arrested for marrying a woman. Yet, the courts did not know what to do with him. The judge dismissed his case after 4 months of jail and he stayed out of the news for a decade.
There are countless cases like David Ryan in the mid-20th century- trans people who make the news for a few weeks before fading into history. However, thanks to new archive technology, we can trace David's story further. He re-married a woman named May Louise and they divorced in 1971. He then married for a 5th and final time to high school teacher Imogene Cox in 1975. He took up jobs at a construction equipment site and Walmart in Evansville, Indiana over the following decades.
David passed in 2002 from heart disease at age 78. The mortician must have insisted on using an "F" for David despite "M" appearing on his other documents (why?). Local news reported that David loved to play instruments and paint. 50 years after transitioning, he still worked with the church.
