Yknow now that I'm just seeing that Mafia! Rabid just isn't really affected by alcohol it got me thinking.

New Year, New Me, Same old OCs. Here's a list of my protag OCs/Canon Protags with Headcanon Personalities. Not including Kanto and Johto because I still haven't played those games and my perception of Red is pretty solidly colored by @heavenlysphere's portrayal of him (sorry for tagging you, Maverick) and Alola because I kind of... forgot to make one. I'm also including Protags who serve as rivals if you don't pick them.

Marie "Mare" Lillian Birch: My first ever and longest running Protag OC, she's the protagonist of ORAS and also my fanfic An Account of Rayquaza's Chosen. Short and mad about it she has Aura Powers, allowing her to understand Pokemon, and is the Chosen of Rayquaza meaning Rayquaza likes her a lot and lets her use its power sometimes. Despite being somewhat overpowered, she's limited by her strict moral code and deep well of trauma. Her last name is Birch even though she's the protagonist because Norman is her step-father and her mom is Professor Birch's Sister.

Brendan Birch: A real brat of a boy and Mare's cousin, Brendan is desperate to prove he's better than her at literally anything, something he consistently tries and fails at because, despite claiming to be the best battler in his school, he's really bad at battling. Eventually, he finds enjoyment in something he is good at and actually enjoys and becomes a star Coordinator with the help of Lisia.

Detective Annabelle "Ann" "Dawnbreaker" "Dawn" Berlitz: Sole heir to the Berlitz family fortune and protagonist of Platinum, Ann has an obsession with classic noir style detective stories to the point where her goal in life is to become a Private Detective, much to her parents' chagrin, to the point that she wears a trenchcoat and fedora at all times and has a habit of diving into detective monologues. She goes by the codename Dawnbreaker, shortened to Dawn, because she met Looker and thought the idea of having a codename was really cool and all detectives should have codenames. She is the Chosen of Dialga and uses her powers over time in conjunction with her her partner, Lucas', power over space to solve crimes nobody else can as the Time-Space Detective Agency. It's kinda like Ghost Trick except they can only reverse a death under very specific circumstances.

Detective Lucas "Luca" "Lux" Diamant: An incredibly bright boy from Sandgem town, Lucas shares Ann's interest in Detective stories, gaining a reputation around town as a sort of Encyclopedia Brown-type detective, solving small cases like missing shoes or some kid's con scheme. His intelligence got him tapped by Professor Rowan to be his research assistant, a job he quite enjoys. He goes by the codename Lux for the same reason Ann goes by Dawn. He is the Chosen of Palkia an uses his power over space in conjunction with Ann's power over time to solve cases no one else can. He is also descended from Adaman and consequently is cousins with Calem and Perrin.

Hilda Kyoko: A rough and tumble girl from the streets of Castelia City, Hilda keeps the streets of Castelia safe from unwanted troublemakers (gangs, mafia, Team Plasma, etc) as part of the Castelia City Girls, a band led by Roxie (the band would later move to Virbank City and change its name to Koffing and the Toxics following Hilda's departure and Roxie becoming a Gym Leader, leaving Castelia's protection in the hands of a successor band that took up the band's old name). She is the Hero of Truth and Chosen of Reshiram, revealing the truth about Ghetsis to the world. Her connection to N isn't as strong in this universe since Mare serves as his foil instead so the reason she leaves is to track down an escaped Ghetsis, who she believes to have fled the region. She's also friends with Victini who will occasionally lend her its power when it feels like it.

Hilbert Ashton: An ordinary teenager from Nuvema Town, Hilbert dreams of becoming the very best, like no one ever was. A veritable Pokemon Master, one could say. And the first step on that journey is to become Champion of the Unova Region.

Rosa Florence Annie Bridgewood aka Stella Black aka The Riolu/Lucario Girl: A bubbly, happy-go-lucky teen actress whose breakout role as The RIolu Girl aka Stella Black in the first Brycen-Man film has shot her into the spotlight. She convinces her agent to let her go on a Journey with her friend and rival Hugh as a publicity stunt to promote the upcoming movie "Brycen-Man Strikes Back." As part of the stunt all League battles have to be taken on in-costume and in-character as The Riolu Girl (and later the Lucario Girl when her Lucario evolves), with the Gym Leaders being hyped up as sensational villains (some of them, like Elesa, get super into the role while others, like Cheren, put no effort into trying to sell it at all). Most of her battles against Neo Plasma are also taken on in-costume. She is not a Chosen but is best friends with most Legenaries, gaining the favor of both the Legendary Birds an Legendary Beasts as well Victini, Meloetta, Reshiram, and Zekrom. Even Kyurem likes her and Kyurem doesn't like anyone.

Nathan "Nate" Lumiere: An aspiring Cinematographer, Nate is an intern at Pokestar Studios. He finally gets a chance at making his dream a reality when Rosa asks for him specifically to film her battles against the Gym Leaders.

Calem "Cal" Xavier and Serena "Rena" Yvonne: They are a pair, do not separate. Despite not being related, Calem and Serena refer to eachother as Brother and Sister and share a deep bond, essentially being raised together. Calem is the calm and rational one while Serena is the Chaos Gremlin of the two, leading to much siblingly bickering and teasing. Excelling at Multi-Battles, each sibling can practically read the mind of the other making them a terrifying combination in battle but also meaning any matches they have with eachother always end in a draw. Two of the few Protags to actually become Champion and keep the role, they're referred to as the Twin Champions despite Serena being a year older than Calem. Calem is descended from Adaman, making him cousins with Perrin and Lucas, and Serena is descended from Irida.

Kai Riposte: A fencing prodigy and the protagonist of SwSh, Kai prefers fencing to Pokemon battles, going on a Journey to make sure her friend Hop doesn't get into too much trouble. Originally from Spikemuth, a fact her mom insists they keep secret so the neighbors won't judge, much to her annoyance, she doesn't get the big deal about Dynamaxing and almost never uses her Dynamax band.

Juliana Violeta: A quiet girl who is incapable of using first person pronouns (that's not a metaphor she literally cannot use I, Me, etc), she prefers to simply not speak at all, and when she does speak she keeps it short and concise. Despite all appearances, she's actually very friendly and open to making new friends. Nemona, who does enough talking for the both of them, appoints her as Vice President of the Student Council with Penny as the Treasurer (cause she's good with numbers and the position supplies her with certain privileges the can exploit for the purpose of Operation Starfall) and Arven as the Secretary (because they needed a Secretary and it allowed him and Juliana more time to speak). She bonds with Miraidon.

Florian Escarleta: A boy who is even quieter than Juliana. Unlike her, he prefers to keep to himself, being extremely shy and having difficulty interacting with other people. He is very creative and enjoys telling stories but is too nervous to show them to anyone. He eventually becomes Student Council Stenographer, keeping record of everything that happens in the Student Council Room as well as transcribing Student Council Meetings, revealing a surprising amount of wit on his part that he'd never display verbally. He bonds with Koraidon, an impressive feat since it hates everything.

Though the pokemon association is at fault not only for rehiring Pryce but for a bunch of other people theyve hired too. They clearly have no vetting process for personality red flags and give one of the biggest positions of power in their society to anyone who can achieve a certain level of strength despite some of them having shady dealings that would have shown up on a background check. (They presumably hired five members of the mafia??) The hoenn association does shitty things too but at least they keep tabs on their gym leaders. Kanto enforces none of the rules and lets the gym leaders operate with no oversight and is all shocked pikachu face when they turn out to be villains, and then don't press charges or investigate any of them. They don't arrest Surge because there "wasn't enough evidence" but don't even, I don't know, suspend him or put him under watch or anything that a responsible organization would do when the guy representing them is accused of trafficking pokemon. The amount of villains they've hired (and rehired *cough* the johto elite four) is insane its almost like gym leader positions are so hard to fill that they'll take anyone regardless of the consequences which is straight up negligence. Anyway Norman was right fuck the pokemon association

"We need flowers boss."

Hearing Happy's voice Tony looked up, "Why do we need flowers?" he asked with furrowed brows.

"It's a funeral." without even seeing Tony could imagine Happy's eyeroll clearly.

"Funeral of the man I killed. Do I really need to take flowers?"

"Yes." Happy deadpanned causing Tony to sigh.

"Okay, just stop at some flower shop on the way." a few moments later when the car stopped Tony looked up from his phone. Looking at the flower shop he had the strangest urge to go inside himself. "Hey, Hap. You wait. I'll get the flower."

At that Happy raised an brow but didn't say anything more.

Just as Tony stepped inside a chirpy voice said, "Welcome to Your Neighborhood Florist! How can I help you?" right there standing in front of Tony was the most beautiful man he'd ever seen.

Tony cleared his throat and composed himself, "I need a bouquet. Something that represents happiness and long life, maybe."

"Oh, then I'd suggest Chrysanthemum flowers for you. I'd be perfect." The florist beamed at him, confident in the choice of flowers.

"Well, if it's about perfection then I'm sure you know best." Tony's heart flipped as he saw the lovely blush rise up the florist's cheeks.

"I'll-I'll get the bouquet ready." the florist shuffled awkwardly towards the flowers. A few moments later he came back with a bouquet of beautiful Chrysanthemum flowers, "Here you go." Tony didn't think Norman Osborn deserved such pretty flowers, but he accepted them gratefully.

They walked to the counter and Tony took out his card to pay. Right as the florist was taking the card Tony noticed the ring on his finger and felt a pang of disappointment.

Tony was carefully looking at the florist to see what his reaction will be seeing Tony's name. But to his great satisfaction, although recognition colored the boy's expression, there was not fear or discomfort. "Thank you coming, Mr. Stark." the younger man said as he returned the card.

"Thank you for your help too, Mr...." Tony trailed off.

"Peter. I'm Peter Parker."

"Mr. Parker."

"Have a good day Mr. Stark." Peter called out as he was leaving.

"Oh, my day has gotten better than ever already." Tony laughed on his way out as he saw Peter blush bright red.

Tony wasn't the type to put his hands on the taken ones. But there was just something about Peter that kept pulling him. He's simple boy. Peter Benjamin Parker, no parents, has a aunt, is engaged to a guy named Quentin Beck. That's it. Nothing special. But Tony still can't help feeling drawn to him.

Afterwards, he ends up visiting the flower shop often. He never makes a move on Peter, just subtle flirting because he loves the blush too much.

Peter never says anything. Just welcomes him with a smile and indulges his behavior.

Not in a million years Peter could've imagined that he'd have a conversation about groceries with a Mafia boss. But weirder things have happened, so Peter doesn't give it much thought.

When Tony - anything but Mr. Stark - first came to the shop, rather than being scared like any other person would be Peter felt intrigued. He wanted to know what kind of person he was (a human disaster). What was his favorite color (hot red), was he a perfectionist like he looked or was he secretly clumsy (definitely clumsy). And what his favorite flower was (sunflower).

Especially with how things with Beck are going Rocky and with Ned and MJ out of New York, the only people he talks to is May Nad Tony.

And Tony's subtle flirting does make him feel good. More so, considering how things with Beck are.

Two months after getting engaged to Beck, things became weird. The only time they spent together was when they had sex. But other than that they had close to zero interaction. Even sex had been far and between these days.

Peter and Beck have been together since high-school. So he doesn’t want to sabotage the relationship by useless suspension. But it's becoming harder and harder to not be suspicious.

Even when they live in the same place, Peter feels he's the only one there. They don't even talk during eating anymore. Beck refuses to touch Peter and dodges kisses and hugs. There are time when Peter almost breaks down.

He's always on his phone and stays out late. When he asks, Beck gets annoyed and says he was with his friends. MJ calls bullshit and even Ned tells him to be more careful.

But it all breaks down when one day Beck come home at 5 in the morning drunk, with hickies on his neck. Peter doesn't say anything right then. Just gets up takes a shower and packs his bag. Beck keeps on sleeping.

The confrontation comes in the morning, "Going somewhere, Peter? You're bags are all packed." Beck says after coming out of the bedroom.

"You're awake already? I thought you'd sleep till noon. With how late you came home yesterday." Peter was determined not to show any of his feelings on his face. He refused to give Beck the satisfaction of breaking him.

"Yeah, I-um was with my friends."

"Hmm. Was it a friend that gave you the hickies?" Peter took grim satisfaction in how Beck's eyed widened in horror and he touched his neck.

"Pete..." Beck whispers, voice slightly desperate.

"I don't wanna hear it." Peter takes his ring off and puts it on the table, "Let's not see each other ever again." with that Peter takes his bags and leaves the house, ignoring Beck calling his name.

Peter doesn't cry on his way to May's house. He refuses to shed tears for that bastard. But when May jugs him close, he let's himself drown in the sorrows and helplessness.

In the end he feels so emotionally drained that he ends up turning off his phone and closing the shop for a indefinite amount of time. On the tenth day he finally turns his phone on. He checks his texts. Ignores and deletes Beck's and texts back to MJ and Ned telling them not to worry.

An unknown number catches his eyes. At first he thinks it's Beck and decides to ignore it. But curiosity gets the best of him. Reading the text Peter's pretty sure he knows who it is.

It takes a while for the reply to come. So in the meantime, Peter showers, eats breakfast and chats with May. She still looks concerned. But now when Peter's smiles to reassure her, it's more genuine than the previous ones. So she relaxes a little.

Peter enjoys his last day off instead of brooding. He goes shopping with May and eats a ridiculous amount of food. It's time he moves on. He can't let some entitled asshole hold him back.

Tony, as promised, visits him the next day. Peter had noticed it a while back that when Tony is coming from 'work' or will go there after meeting Peter, he's always wearing fairly intimidating suits. But other days, he has old MIT sweats and jeans on. Peter likes that more.

"It's been so long!" Tony says in lieu of greeting.

"It's been ten days."Peter points out.

"So long." Tony huffs making Pater laugh. Seeing Tony like that makes it hard 5o believe that he is one of the most feared Mafia leaders in the world. Peter tells Tony exactly that and Tony replies with a, "Somethings aren't for everyone, honey bee."

The intensity in Tony's voice makes Peter gulp. He enjoys chatting his time away with Tony. It feels good to talk to someone while preparing endless orders. Tony doesn’t ask about his absence. For which Peter is endlessly thankful.

Seeing Peter again feels good. Tony didn't realize how much he'd gotten used to the boy until he couldn't see Peter again. At first it worried him. But he didn’t want to be too pushy. At last he gave into temptation and texted Peter. It went better than he imagined it would, considering how he got Peter's number.

Peter didn't look unhealthy but there is a slight weariness on his face. As far as to y can tell it had something to do with his fiancée, or maybe ex-fiancée. If the missing ring was any indication.

But Peter didn't say anything and Tony didn't ask. He was too busy planning on making moves on the boy anyway, since he's single now.

After the first time, texting became a common affair between them. Tony would send Peter pictures of coffee and Peter would reply with flower pictures with their meaning. By now Tony knows all about flowers.

Peter also never brings up Tony's work life. Not even when he once went to see him with bloody knuckles and a busted lip. Peter just looked at him, sighed and brought the first aid kit. Tony is pretty sure he's in love with the boy.

Admitting to himself is easy. By now he can even admit it to Rhodey. But asking Peter out is another kind of challenge. One that Tony isn't confident about.

For a Mafia boss, Tony can be pretty cowardly. He is working so hard to gather up courage to ask Peter out that he almost takes pity on the older man and does it himself.

They've been constantly flirting for two months now. They've went to eat together in several places. They were practically dates! Peter doesn't know why Tony is so worried. It's not like he's gonna say 'no'.

"Hey, Pete."

"Yeah?" Peter acts like he doesn't see Tony sweating like crazy.

"Do you have plans this Thursday?" Finally! Peter thinks.

"Um...no. I'm free. What is it?"

"Well, there's this gala I'm going to. Wanna come with me?"

"Your work gala?" Peter asks.

"My work gala." Tony confirms. He then sighs and rubs his face, "Look Peter, I like you. I've liked you fo a long time. But at first you're with someone else." at the mention of Beck Peter tenses, but Tony continues, "And then I didn't want to rush you. But I'm saying it now. I like you. So yeah." Tony shrugs, feigning nonchalance. "Will you go out with me."

Hey guys, I’m sharing this folder here so you guys can use it. It’s got pretty much all of Norman Reedus’s movies. There’s some missing but these are the ones I was able to track down. Some I had to rip from DVD. 

List: 

The Boondock Saints 1 & 2: Highly recommend if you’ve never seen. Outdated ideas are in this but Norman and SPF are super cool and hot. Two Irish brothers get into some trouble with the russian mafia and take them out. Eventually they decide to be vigilantes and take out all the bad guys in the neighbourhood. 

Air: By Greg Nicotero. Norman is Bauer. Him and Djimon Honsou are underground in a bunker where  they are required to look after cryogenically frozen scientists and important people. Something happens and they start to run out of air. They end up turning on each other. Well, more Norman turns on Djimon. Pretty good movie

Sky: A french woman travelling in America with her husband ends up running away from said husband. She ends up in Vegas and meet Norman. He invites her back to his place and they grow closer but he resists her love. Norman plays Diego in this. Love this movie. This is the beginning of Norman and Diane Kruger’s real life story too. Warning for sad feels.

Sunlight Jr: I don’t really know what this one is about. All I know is Norman plays Justin, Naomi Watts’s ex boyfriend and he’s not very nice. 

Hello Herman: This is about a school shooter.. Norman plays an internet personality who interviews the kid. There are flashbacks showing him going undercover in a Nazi group where he did some terrible things. I liked this one. Some nice acting from Norman

A Crime” Norman is Vincent, a guy who’s wife or girlfriend was killed by a cab driver. He’s consumed by looking for this guy. So this woman who is in love with him seduces and befriends a cab driver in order to frame him for the murder so Vincent can move on. Not a bad movie though the woman is kind of stalkery towards Norman. 

Beat: Based on a true story. Norman plays the friend and lover of Courney Love’s character. It’s been a while since I saw this so I can’t really remember the details exactly. 

Six Ways To Sunday: Norman play Harry a strange young man with an uncomfortably close relationship with his mother played by Debbie Harry. This has some pretty fucked up stuff in it. 

Bad Seed: Norman plays Jonathan Casey. Luke Wilson is searching for the person who killed his wife. He finds out she was having an affair with Jonathan and believes Jonathan killed her. They face off and chase each other around the whole movie until the end when the truth is revealed. 

Cigarette Burns: Norman plays Kirby. He works at a movie theatre and he’s contracted by a rich guy to find this lost film. Along the way he finds that there are so many tragedies surrouding this film. Everyone who sees it kills themselves or something like that. 

Deuces Wild: Norman plays Marco. He’s the leader of a rival gang and kind of super evil in this. I’ve only watched bits of this. 

Floating: I can’t remember Norman’s name in this one. He plays this young man who is with a gang of guys who break into houses and steal shit. He makes friends with this new guy that moves to town. There’s a lot of swimming in this. 

Gossip: Norman plays Travis. Three friends spread a rumour that quickly spins out of control. Side not but Norman’s character Travis is absolutely adorable in this. Super weird but adorable. 

Hero Wanted: I haven’t seen this. 

Meet Me In Berlin: Short film about a guy in hospital talking to a woman he was supposed to meet before his accident. Norman’s injuries in this are actually real. He shot this while in hospital after the accident where he had to get a titanium eye socket and screws in his nose. 

Meskada: I didn’t wact much of this one so I don’t really have much to say. 

Messengers 2: The Scarecrow: Norman plays John, a farmer struggling to keep his farm going. He encounters ghosts and other horror stuff. Not a very good movie but worth it for Norman. Theres a quite young Clare Holt from Originals in this as Norman’s daughter. Warning: There is a scene that is very dubious consent. I’d call it rape actually. 

Night of the Templar: I only barely watched this because I didn’t find it that interesting. The main character’s face reminds me of plastic to be honest. Norman’s character seems kind of smart assy. Things don’t work out so well for him. 

Nobody Needs To Know: Haven’t watched this. I don’t think Norman’s in this that much. 

Octane: A woman and her daughter are travelling on the highway. The daughter disappears, presumably kidnapped so her mother goes searching for her. Norman plays the tow truck driver who seems pretty shady. 

Pandorum: Norman is only in this for one scene. His death scene. It’s pretty gruesome too. I’m pretty sure at the time, people thought it was a scene from The Walking Dead. 

Sand: I don’t really remember much from this movie but Norman is very young in it with his blonde hair. 

Tough Luck: Norman is a pretty criminal. He gets a job in a carnival and meets this woman. She’s married to the owner of the carnival so they see each other in secret. They plot to fake her death so she can run away but something goes wrong and she is killed for real. Time passes and things end up not being what they seemed. 

The Conspirator: This is a historical movie with James Mcavoy. I haven’t seen it yet. 

Red Canyon: Norman plays Mac. This movies needs the biggest warning. Norman is EVIL in this. Like worst of the worst. Murderer, meth addict, rapist. A group of people come back to a small town years after an event that traumatised one of the group’s sister. Something happened to her in a cave. The truth is revealed slowly. During the course, Norman as Mac hunts them down and kills a lot of them. Norman has meth teeth in this that are pretty gross lol. But yeah there is a lot of fucked up shit in this. 

That’s it for now. I have to rip Moscow Chill and Until The Night from the DVDs to add. 

I wish I could find Melissa Mcbride’s old movies but that’s like panning for gold.

A Soulmates AU in which Ben is horrified to find out he’s soulmates with his 16 year old student, ten years his junior. (no underage shenanigans) This fic fucked me up. The world building is so stunning. The story is rich with love and fluff, but oh the angst. Soooo much angst and emotional anguish and two people who are trying their best but just can't communicate for shit. The overall story is so beautiful and worth every heartbreaking moment. A happy ending WILL come!

Satan Wears a Rolex by AquaWolfGirl. (Modern, E, 205K)A Devil Wears Prada AU. Unfinished, but it’s fascinating and it ends well where it is.

Hiraeth by Ferasha. (1990′s, E, 204K)

An absolute angst and pain train of a historical war fic. This is not a comfort fic. It will fuck you up. But if you’re into that, the way they’ve woven canon plot in with the Yugoslav Wars is a masterpiece. It’s dark and gritty and will make you feel things.

Recently I saw an essay about how Hima’s portrayal of the Italy brothers was racist and xenophobic, in addition to being poor and one dimensional, and I couldn’t agree less.

Also although I prefer Romano I honestly think North Italy  is a interesting and well developed character  although that is easy to miss for some. Both of them are developed and shown wonderfully in canon and I continue to be eager to see more. In this essay I will show why I believe their portrayals are well done and how they are accurate to the situation in Italy as well as to it’s history and culture (That being said if you prefer a different interpretation that’s fine, there can be many different narratives)

North Italy does seem at first glance to be more talented, kind, and politically inclined. However this is not the entire story. Likewise Romano seems more rude and undesirable, but this is not everything in canon regarding him. In one strip Romano is noted to have a good deal of potential by Prussia and Germany, showing that he can be hard working and talented if he makes the effort. In the strip where Romano goes to America he also is quite confident in his cooking talents which America is actually impressed by. In another strip America even calls his cooking the best, and Romano himself is in later decades proud of his cooking, showing that yes he is good at things, and yes he is talented.

The problem is is that Romano does not have to motivation often to use his talents and work ethic. There are many reasons for this that Himaruya both states and alludes to. Firstly Himaruya states that being owned by various powers had a negative effect on Romano and that mismanagement by his rulers lead him to seem lazy since their mismanaged ruling rubbed off on him. Basically political control, corruption , and mismanagement stymied south Italy’s growth, which is true depending on the era and time period and  true regarding modern day. Also in one strip after Romano makes an effort to work hard, but all his efforts come to nothing and he eventually grows resigned. I believe this is a reflection of the fact that there is an attitude among some south Italians of resignation towards politicians and things improving for themselves,  such as shown in the song La Citta di Pulcinella (translation). Himaruya also touches on this when he notes the harmful affect the Mafia has on south Italy in his notes and even laments that fact.

Basically Romano has the potential  to be just as good as north Italy but is unable to be because of historical circumstances and due to the harmful effect of corruption. Romano’s rudeness and lack of evident kindness and cynical worldview is also a result of this as he has been at the mercy of the mafia both in real life and in canon. Hima notes his cynicism is due to the harmful effects of the mafia and how they have hurt him . Romano in my opinion has reason to be rude, he has reason to be unkind, he has reason to be cynical, the mafia continues to be a serious  issue and was even worse in the past, and thus his world view has been affected by how he has suffered at their hands. He also has to deal with the fact that he feels he is compared to north Italy, and openly  feels and says he is not good enough or talented enough compared to him. This is based in reality. The north is often seen as better than the south and indeed it is more wealthy, does have better infrastructure, x does have more industry and renown and Romano is clearly sour because of this. Himaruya showing someone reacting negatively towards adverse circumstances i think is not a negative stereotype but just showing the harmful effects of the situation of the south. Romano is not totally unkind either. Despite their conflicts he does care about his brother, he  often  shows  a lot  concern  for  Spain  and worries about him, he is kind to women generally , and has some nations he is friendly with like Japan  Netherlands and Belgium . So in sum hima does not show Romano as unkind, but as a complex being who can be both kind and unkind like many people.

The south is seen as a land of little opportunity, dirty, unclean and full of crime by the north that is true, however sadly that perception has some  perception in reality. For example many southerners leave the south to find work up north and stay there. This even happens to one of the protagonists of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels and it is seen as escaping Naples to make a better life for herself while the other protagonist  stays stuck in Naples, stunted by the lack of opportunity and male oppression that she struggles against all her life. Naples also  sadly has a serious trash  problem as does Rome, there is even a facebook page titled “Rome is disgusting” in Italian showing the trash  problems of Rome. The mafia also   dumps  toxic  waste  around Naples, leading to high rates of sickness and cancer in the population compared to other parts of Italy due to the fact that the toxic waste seeps into the ground water and the plants grown around the area.

Romano feels interior to North Italy and seems so at first glance because that is a reflection of the sad situation of the divide between north and south. However again note I said ‘at first glance’, because while many write off the south at first glance there is a richness and beautify behind that with its rich culture and the beauty of it’s people, as there is with Romano, which I note with his hidden and subtle  kindness in canon .

Romano’s Arabic blood and darker appearance is due the fact that Arabs from north Africa invaded Sicily, ruled there for about two hundred years, and left a lasting cultural legacy behind there. It makes sense he has Arabic blood, as well as the fact that some, though not all, southern Italians do have a darker complexation (some also have red hair, blonde hair, hazel eyes, or blue eyes, due to Norman influence too). However that doesn’t mean they are poc (in Italy persone di colore is used instead) and even though Romano does have some Arabic blood frankly he would not be seen as non white in Italy. I don’t really think it’s right to bring up a poc argument in regards to him given that. In addition to that Italy also has a problem regarding xenophobia and  racism in regards to African immigrants and Romani and many suffer and are marginalized there, something Romano would not experience in that regard. Romano is also noted to have a “Darker” nature, but this is again because of the mafia. He is affected and blighted by them, it’s not a reference to his coloring but to his cynicism and how they have drained him and his people of the prosperity they could have had otherwise. He is also noted to be “dirtier” not in the sense of being messy or unclean but in how his image looks, and the expressions he makes, this is a reference to the south’s rougher and more intense nature. It’s often said that the more  south you go, the more intense and more of the nature of Italy you get and indeed the south of Italy is often said to be a love it or hate it place.

There is also additional canon reasons for Romano’s bitterness and darker personality like how he feels Rome favored north Italy  (There may be historical reasons for this but I am limiting this essay to what is stated openly or alluded to more obviously in canon) and how he seems to feel haunted by his legacy. And as for other nations favoring North Italy over him, some do not like Spain and Belgium, and the the fact that some seem to is also sadly reflective of reality as many people only pay attention to or visit the north of Italy, neglecting or avoiding the south and only looking at the cities of Venice, Florence and Milan and not Palermo, Naples, or Caligari.

While the two brothers did not meet in Rome’s lifetime there is no indication this lasted until the Italian wars during the 1500′s portrayed in the canon strips . In fact during Spain’s rule of south Italy shortly after Romano is shown mentioning he is going to travel to visit his brother so they clearly had met by this point. Due to the nature of canon himaruya jumps across time periods often and so we do not always see everything that occurs within or before a certain time period. Sometimes he returns  later, and sometimes he does not, though he could in the future. As for North Italy’s reactions to his struggles people have different reactions to hard situations, and that is not wrong, not everyone will struggle in the same way. It’s not something that indicates a lack of character but just a personality facet. Not everything has to contribute to development and that doesn’t mean a uninteresting or uncomplex character. Some people are simply affected differently by traumatic events. That being said I find it interesting he seems to hold a deep fear of angering others as well as some fear of abandonment .

We will turn to North Italy again. Yes he is cute, but that is not all his character is. He is far more than that. He is kind , he is intelligent , he is noted to be good at business, he is also fashionable  and knows how to get what he   wants out of people, he also can  be a bit  vulgar sometimes. He also was good at warfare when he was a child, and if one looks into the time period of the strips it seems he lessens in his ability the longer he is under Austria’s domain. He is also good at art, he is good at cooking, and he is  even also not exactly the nicest person .

I have noticed that many people miss this but sometimes he is actually a little sneaky and mean . This is most evident with Romano actually. In one of their first appearances together when Romano asks Italy to complement him Italy outright refuses, backs away, and as a result makes Romano cry more than he had before and he flies off. In another comic Italy goes up to Romano, seems surprised he is working, and Romano is visibly hurt by this, he also seems to even doubt Romano’s ability to even do so, offering to do work for him which Romano is bothered by . Finally Italy has been shown to get outright angry at Romano at times, in one drawing he is yelling at Romano over the Venice independence referendum, saying Romano doesn’t want him around anyways . While North Italy does love his brother he clearly is not the nicest person to him at times which does little to motivate Romano to do much of anything, and sadly North Italy does not treat him as a equal really given how condescending he can sometimes be. He also is a little rude to Japan at times, like when they are in the bath, sort of hinting he thinks Japan has a small dick.  In addition to this he is pretty sneaky and sometimes even flirty in regards to Germany and is able to really get Germany to do whatever he wants, though this is more evident in World Stars  .

As for everyone liking him in the past he and Turkey were antagonistic, with Turkey stating he hated kids as a result of him (And Greece), and Austria was often angry and frustrated with   him. In modern times Belarus has shown aggression to him when he  tried to feel her chest and was visibly angry with good reason to be. The other girls didn’t allow him to do so either, but all had various reactions. From Monaco and Belgium not taking him seriously and gloating over their superior gambling and waffles respectively  to Wy giving him rather done look and telling him to buzz off, to Taiwan being upset and telling him off, Vietnam having none of it and glaring at him, to the most surprising of them all, Ukraine openly flirting with him and giving him a seductive gaze he is a little intimidated by . His relationships are clearly not predictable but are interesting and fun to see and clearly not everyone thinks he is cute or is willing to put up with him especially the girls ironically. Switzerland too shows little tolerance for Italy’s antics, but is willing to spend time him civilly as long as he behaves himself , Russia too has gotten impatient with him at times, and so has Japan. And as for France he’s a interesting case, since at times he can be brotherly towards Italy  but at the same time is also willing to tell him off, like when he actually hit him for asking for the Mona Lisa back. People like Italy, but not everyone does and even those who like him don’t like him all the time.

Frankly I think their characters make perfect sense. Romano’s anger and resentment is rooted in many things. In how people compare him and his brother, on his brother’s lackluster treatment of him, in the oppressions of the mafia, the years of being ruled over by other nations, and by poverty, neglect, and corrupt politics. North Italy for his part is frustrated by Romano and often doesn’t understand him and thinks his brother his weighing him down, though he fails to see how he is also contributing to his brother’s resignation and lack of self worth. He instead tries to work hard and do his best, while sucking up to others and making himself seem charming and pleasing to get what he wants and not make others angry at him. In fact he seems to have a deep and pressing fear of others being angry at him.

In sum I think canon does a good job with both of their characters. It shows them in a humorous nature in accordance with the genre of the strips while still leaving room for character complexity along with historical and cultural references and allusions, as well as reflecting both aspects of the historical and modern situation of north and south Italy depending on what time period the strip is set. Romano is shown to be rude, difficult, sometimes violent, and darker, however these are only traits that come as a result of the abandonment of Rome, the poverty and corruption of his land,  and the malign influence and harm of the mafia affecting him. In addition to this he is also sometimes kind, fun loving, emotional, sensitive,  a hard worker when he tries to be, is shown to be a talented cook, someone with a good deal of potential, and someone who has people who like him like Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Japan. On the other hand Italy is shown to yes, be kind and cute, but canon also shows him to be  flirty, sneaky, angry, resentful, intelligent, and even a little rude at times. Many people like him, but not all do, for example Belarus, or many do not like him all the time and show impatience with him like Wy, France, Romano, and Switzerland. The difficulties he has experienced have not affected him in the same way they have Romano but that’s to be expected, for the two did not go though the same things and it’s only normal for people to have different reactions to trauma, some handling it better than others. This does not denote a lack of character complexity or development but just a different kind of person and temperament. I think that this shows that both Italy and Romano are interesting and complex characters and that himaruya in my opinion has done his work and research in trying to develop them and do strips for them. He does not indulge in colorism or xenophobia but merely seeks to show the good and bad of both sides of Italy and the complex reality of the south today and in history which has it’s bad and good points.

As a side note in Valentino strip is unfinished and Germany and Italy never discuss their respective feelings or misunderstandings and Italy is less uncomfortable and more confused and worried that Germany is angry at him.

Yknow it's funny when I think about Norman in the Mafia AU because when I was thinking about it, it's a human(kinda) working with and for a bunch of abnormal beings and it's funny how he would just have a big as hell binder with him of what to do and not to do with each person he comes across there.

Even though he makes good money as a dealer, he doesn't stay in certain places that often, so he hops from town to town trying to have a decent life while on the run from a mysterious person. That's until he randomly encounters the Mafia.

Even though Norman is human, he still has some rubber hose cartoon blood in him. It comes from his mother [REDACTED] and the human part from his Father, [REDACTED]. From part of being half toon, his expressions from time to time aren't as natural like he would do a creepy ass smile, and he wouldn't even know. This applies to the eyes as well. But I feel like for funny expression Mafia! Rabid would probably laugh at them.

He always has a cat following him that just sticks with him, and he doesn't know why. It's gotten to a point where he considers the cat as his little companion. He decided to call him Tex.

I feel like he would have ears everywhere because if theres someone talking about something they're trying to get, they would get it for 'em and put it in their room with a note saying it's for them.

Because of his height, most people just don't take him seriously, especially Mafia! Rabid. This is most likely the reason why people keep calling Norman "kid." For this, he always gets red out of embarrassment for getting mistaken as a kid. And I feel like Mafia! Rabid would just take advantage of this so much. (He's 5'0" btw)

Plus I feel like he can just pop out of anything if anyone is mentioning him or needing him. Like he can be there in an instant.

Silver Sable (Silver Sablinova) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is usually depicted as a mercenary, hunter of war criminals, leader of the Wild Pack, and owner of Silver Sable International. While not a criminal, her work as a mercenary has sometimes brought her into conflict with several superheroes. Silver Sable is primarily an ally and sometimes enemy of Spider-Man.

Fictional character biographyEdit

The operations of Wild Pack and Silver Sable International drive the national economy of the fictional small European state of Symkaria. The name Wild Pack had been used by the mercenary squad led by Cable for some time, until a legal notice forced them to change it to Six Pack.[11]

The State of Symkaria is adjacent to Latveria, the nation ruled by Doctor Doom. Silver Sable and Victor Von Doom have an annual diplomatic dinner at Castle Doom, situated in Doomstadt. Apparently, the friendship between the two states is deep-rooted and dates back to World War II.[12][4]

The family of Silver Sable is composed of her father Ernst Sablinov,[4] her uncle Morty,[13] and the young cousin Anna, who Silver Sable calls her niece, orphaned daughter of an unnamed uncle.[14][15] Silver's mother, Anastasia Sablinova, was killed in front of her by enemies of her father, who ran a Nazi-hunting group.[16] After this traumatic event, she was trained by her father to become a Nazi-hunting mercenary.[17] After her father's death, she became the leader of the Wild Pack, a team formed by Ernst to apprehend international criminals.[18] She also founded her own company, the Silver Sable International.[4][2] Like her father's, Sable's squad originally focused on bringing Nazi war criminals to justice, but over time they started to accept other type of missions for profit.[19]

Silver was briefly married to the Foreigner,[20] an international assassin and the head of the 1400 Club, but they divorced after she discovered his attempt to kill the President of U.S.[21] After that, their relation varied between non-belligerent and attempts to kill one another.[22][23]

Uncle Morty functions as Sable's assistant, organizing some missions and sometimes trying to influence her sense of judgement.[14][24] Silver supports Anna's boarding school education.[14] When HYDRA agents took over Anna's school, Sable infiltrated it, rescuing the hostages with the help of Spider-Man, Sandman, and the Wild Pack.[14]

While hunting the international criminal Black Fox to recover valuable gems stolen by the thief, she was inadvertently thwarted by Spider-Man.[1] She was later hired by a South African government to neutralize the international terrorist Jack O'Lantern.[19] She enlisted Spider-Man's aid against the Sinister Syndicate,[25] and forms a first alliance with the Sandman.[26] Some time later, she joined forces with Spider-Man, Paladin, Solo, and Captain America to track down Sabretooth and the Red Skull, who masterminded a plot to put the United States against Symkaria.[27][28][29][30][31][32]

She later worked with Spider-Man to steal incriminating documents from a Maggia money launderer; soon after, she formed The Outlaws.[33] An intelligence mission in Iraq resulted in the death of a Wild Pack member, and she denied compensation to the slain man's family due to his negligence.[34] She devised an initiation test for the Prowler to join The Outlaws, while teaching him a lesson in humility in the process.[35] She hired The Outlaws to retrieve a Symkarian nuclear device in England and to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a Canadian official.[36][37][38]

Sable's cordial diplomatic relationship with Doctor Doom once proved almost fatal when the annual dinner happened to fall on the time when Doctor Doom's castle had been overtaken by an alien impersonator during the Infinity War crisis. Although Silver noticed that the doppelgänger looked differently, she interpreted it as Doom's desires to change his look.[12] During the dinner, Sable's driver was killed by Doom's robots and a human butler was killed by the doppelgänger himself.[12] Sable protested the brutality and was attacked herself, leading to a chase throughout the castle.[12] The Silver Sable International's soldier came to rescue her, despite Sandman himself also having been replaced by another doppelgänger.[12][39]

Silver has collaborated with various superheroes, including the aforementioned Spider-Man,[4] the Punisher,[40] Daredevil,[2] Luke Cage,[23][41] Venom,[42] and Captain America.[20] Sandman was a mercenary working for Silver Sable as part of her Wild Pack for a long time,[43] heading The Intruders, the squad of superpowered mercenaries employed by Silver Sable International.[21]

Later, Sable was hired to protect Professor Wolfgang Hessler holed up in the Symkarian monastery of St. Eboars. Wolfgang knew of a powerful genetic weapon and, attacked by guilt, was working on a neutralizing agent to give to the world so the weapon would be useless.[44] For this mission, Silver Sable hired a new team formed by The Cat, Paladin, and what she thought was Nomad but turned out to be Madcap. The group fought the Heroes for Hire, who had been hired to take the Professor.[45] Sable's team had the upper hand until Deadpool freed his Heroes allies and Luke Cage turned out to be a traitor, sending the Professor off to the Master of the World.[44]

During the Shadowland storyline, Silver Sable ended up paired up with Misty Knight, Paladin, and Shroud when Daredevil's Hand ninjas secretly targeted members of the mafia.[46]

During the Ends of the Earth storyline involving one of Doctor Octopus' schemes, Silver Sable recovered Spider-Man and Black Widow after the Avengers are defeated by the Sinister Six.[47] She joined them in an attack on a Sahara facility controlled by Doctor Octopus, with the three defeating Sandman after Spider-Man's allies at Horizon Labs helped determine a way to identify the one particle of sand containing Sandman's consciousness.[47] She was apparently drowned by the Rhino in the final battle when Rhino pinned her to the ground in a flooding corridor in Doctor Octopus' base.[48] Even though Doctor Octopus' plan had been stopped, Rhino also decided to kill himself in the process after the loss of his own wife.[48] However, Madame Web later revealed to Spider-Man that Silver Sable did not perish in the fight within Doctor Octopus' underwater base.[49]

She was later seen with other dead people in a Peter Parker's post-mortem experience.[50]

She has later revealed to be alive,[51] as she requested Spider-Man's help in thwarting a recent coup of Symkaria organized by Norman Osborn.[52] Sable explained that she had survived her confrontation with the Rhino by using her suit to cloak herself, distracting him long enough for her to escape, using her apparent death to discreetly hunt down most of her enemies.
