Judging Aunties
Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse
Hobie Brown X South Asian!F!Reader
Synopsis: you just wanted to enjoy a nice family gathering with your boyfriend but of course your very rude and judgy aunties had to say something because why would they ever let you be happy? Luckily for you, Hobie loved you too much to let them get in the way. (In other words, Hobie being such a comforting and supportive boyfriend.)
Warnings: minor panic attack (I think?) and there will be depictions of racism in this fic as I can't lie to you, lots of South Asian aunties are very judgy when you bring someone that isn't South Asian to a family meet. I do not condone it, nor do I excuse it. This fic is here to condemn it.
Note: I encourage you to read this even if you aren't South Asian as I'd love to share the experiences of south asians to those of you that don't know much. One of the huge, glaring issues is how judging older aunties can be if you decide to date a guy that isn't brown as well and I wanted to write this fic to highlight that issue. Of course, there are many delights about being south asian too but this fic is focusing on one issue. And dw, Hobie tells them to suck it. (Also, the reader is bengali specifically in this.)
The eyes. You could feel them, boring straight into your back—sending whatever voodoo evil-eye shit they could your way.
And all for what? 'Cause you had a boyfriend that looked different to them? Spoke differently and had different mannerisms? So fucking what? He loved you and you loved him, wasn't that enough?
"Ayo," you heard his voice faintly, and you felt guilty when you couldn't help but pay more attention to their gazes on you, "I'm gonna go grab us some'in to eat, yeah?"
You nodded but your eyes stayed cloudy, barely focusing on if he had left yet or not. Though, judging by the muttering voices that grew louder—he was gone and the aunties were approaching.
"Y/N, beti, was that your new... boyfriend?"
Ugh, her voice sounded like nails against a chalkboard to your ears. And—somehow—she made the usually nice-sounding accent that coated her tongue, seem god-awful.
"Yeah, what of it?" You crossed your arms, narrowing your eyes in her direction.
"Nothing... just... did it not work out with Rohan? I thought that boy was quite nice."
Here we go.
"No, fufu, Rohan didn't work out."
"That's a shame. He's training to be a doctor, you know—"
Is that so? I didn't know that after the hundreds of times you already told me, auntie.
"—a perfect marriage candidate."
"Mhm, good for him." You dismissed her with a light wave of your hand, barely managing to keep yourself from sinking your nails into her flesh right then and there.
Though, even your restrained actions were enough to cause her to narrow her own eyes at you. "Does your bhai know you're with... him?"
"He's the first person I told."
"He's the first person you told?"—and so the judging continues—"tor maa baaf khene khoysona foila?" ("why didn't you tell your mum and dad first?")
Your eye twitched. "They were also among the first I told."
"And they approved?"
The lion, the witch, and the audacity of this bitch.
"Why wouldn't they approve?"
"Well, you know—"
"There a problem, ladies?" Lo and behold, the person of interest had made his way back over to you, a plate of your mother's freshly baked samosas in one hand, his other hand resting by his side.
You lit up at his appearance, practically gliding over to him as your salwar kameez jingled with every step you took, emphasising your joy further as your arms looped around his neck and you rested your head against his chest.
His steady heartbeat was always comforting to listen to; always calmed your nerves.
"I can't lie, love, you're looking sweet in dat dress styll."
You giggled, feeling yourself turn into putty from just his one compliment. Even just his presence was enough to melt your bones and render you into an immovable pond of gooey mush, eyes practically turning into hearts as you endlessly swooned.
"And you are...?"
But, of course, all good things must come to an end.
"My name's Hobie, Hobie Brown." He held his hand out to her and when she merely looked at it with narrowed eyes, you could feel your grip tighten around his neck.
"Listen, my niece is very gentle—"
"Gen'le?" He interrupted her, incredulous. "This one? Are you mad?"
"Hobie!" You whined but buried your head into his chest to hide the growing smile on your lips that would give away your true feelings.
"What? It's a compliment, you're a mad ting, you know? Enough to make a big man stumble."
Another sickening, little school-girl giggle left your mouth and you could already envision your aunties scrunching their noses up in distaste at the blatant display of affection but—honestly?—you didn't give a fuck. You were in Hobie's arms and that was all that mattered.
"What is with all your... piercings? Are you in a gang?"
Okay, what did she just say?
You were fully ready to just snap at her but Hobie beat you to speaking first. "Nah, I don't do that gang shit."
"Fufu, I think you need to leave." You turned your head her way, grip tightening even further as your brows caved in tenfold; red, hot rage flowing through your veins.
You were about to pull away—give her a piece of your mind and forcefully make her leave—but, Hobie looped an arm around your waist and prevented you from creating any distance with him.
When you looked up to address him, however, you noticed how he wasn't looking at you—instead, he was staring right at your auntie, lips shaped into a straight line. "Just say you don't like me da'ing her 'cause I'm black, yeah?"
Woah.
Your auntie gritted her teeth, nostrils flaring as she fiercely huffed, raising one pointer finger his way in her rage as she parted her lips, ready to let out another one of her long, bitchy speeches.
But Hobie wasn't having it, and so, shut her right up when he turned his head back your way, tilting your chin and meeting your lips in a sudden—and extremely passionate—kiss.
Your eyes stayed open long enough for you to catch a glimpse of him raising his middle finger up and sending it right her way before you smirked and melted straight into him.
Despite the kiss being done to prove a point, it still didn't feel any less magical as every other kiss with him. Hobie was the only one who could ever make you feel this way—and you adored him for it, regardless of what some stuck-up auntie had to say.
When he finally pulled away (much to your dismay), he turned back over to your auntie, who stood there with her mouth hung open, and said, "do me a favour, yeah? Fuck off."
And soon, you were tugged off, away from the multiple pairs of eyes that belonged to all your other relatives in the room and towards another empty one instead.
Though, as Hobie led you over to the couch, you couldn't help but feel a wave of a certain strong emotion you felt when you brought your last non-brown lover over to a family gathering; a wave so strong, you had to voice it.
"I get it."
"Huh?"
"If you don't wanna be with me anymore—I get it. My aunties are really overbearing and South Asian culture is really, really unwelcome to other races so I—" a lump formed in your throat and you could barely finish uttering your sentence, unable to push past the stupid thing.
"Woah, woah, woah, what are you on about, love?" Hobie's voice sounded concerned but he was probably just trying to be sweet, he would leave you just like your past lover did—and all because of a dumb family gathering. God, how could you be so stupid? You shouldn't have taken him in the first place.
"It's just—" you choked up, vision blurring as your heart constricted and it got harder and harder to breathe.
"Woah, look at me, love. Look at me." His hands placed themselves on your shoulders as he levelled with you, making your nerves relax a little just by the sight of his face. "Breathe with me."
You followed the movement of his chest, breathing in rhythm with him until your vision cleared up and your words finally found you again.
"It's just that— my last boyfriend left me because of my aunties and— and— I don't want you to leave me too."
Please don't leave, I love you too much, Hobie.
"I would never leave you 'cause of some jarring prick that's part of your family. Ever."
You blinked. "Really? Not even 'cause I'm Desi?"
"What are you chatting 'bout? My guy Pav is Indian, you don't see me not bein' 'is mate 'cause of that."
He made a good point.
"Look, yeah, Y/N? I love you. No ma'er what. Never forget that."
And it was at that moment where you, Y/N L/N, found yourself falling in love with Hobie Brown all over again.
"I love you too, Hobie."
(Note: If I catch any comments that undermine this experience or call me racist for writing about this behaviour and calling it out, I will delete them and block the commenter. I take this very seriously and I hope you are mature enough to also do so. That's all, have a good day.)

When I share my thoughts in my family-
My mom - Jab tak is ghar me paise kama ke nahi laa Rahi ho tab tak jo bola jaa raha hai jitna bola jaa raha hai chup chap karo
When I don't share my thoughts in my family -
My entire family - Kaisi beti hai, eklauti hoke bhi apni maa ko dost nahi bana sakti, gharwalo ke sath involve hi nahi hona chahti
Bas paise kamake door Jana hai ab apni mental peace ke liye 🥲

Kitni ajeeb baat hay jis ghar mein pura bachpan guzra ho, wo ghar aik din chor ke jana parta hay. Aur phir jab Shadi ke bad wapis maa baap se milne jao to wo mehmano ki tarhan khatir tawazo karte hain. Be'Shak ye har bandi karti hay, lekin kisi ke liye bhe apne maa baap, apne comfort zone ko chorna asan nhi hota. Allah har behen, beti ka naseeb acha kare, Ameen suma Ameen. [via - Hazel Clouds]

Mohabbat dhoondnay chali thi mein.
Ek Khandaani darakhth pay kali thi mein.
“Log kya kahain gay” in lafzon mein bhala para aur yehi sabak bangaya.
Toot gayi woh kali, akhir jeet hui samajh ki zabardasti.

Ye baat jhoot nai ke mard zamaney ke dhakkey khata hai,
apne biwi bacho ka pait bharta hai, unke sar par saaya hota hai, andar se toot'ta hai lekin kisi ke samney ah tak ni bharta.
Lekin maine bohot bareeki se jaiza Liya hai dono jinso ka, aurat us parley mai mujhe bhari nazar ayi hai.
Aurat jab beti hoti hai to socha jata hai ke isko biyana hai, rukhsat karna hai kisi tarah se, nai to farz adaa nai hoga waaliden ka.
Jab biwi banti hai to shohar kehta ke mera kaha hua pathar par lakeer hai. Aurat se uski awaz leli jati hai.
Aur jab maa banti hai, to bachey sochtey ke hain isko kia hi maloom hoga, humne to isey goonga paya tha.

Today, as I sit to pen down my thoughts, my heart feels heavy, burdened by the weight of an incident that shook not just me, but every single person who believes in humanity. The rape that occurred on August 9, 2024, at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, is a scar on our society, a painful reminder of the safety we fail to provide to our women, to our daughters, to our future.
The fact that even after all these months, justice has not been served is deeply unsettling. Every day that goes by without justice feels like a betrayal to the victim, her family, and to every woman who fights to exist in this world without fear. I find myself questioning, again and again — how did we let it come to this? How is it that, in a world that claims to be progressive, we are still struggling with something as basic as ensuring a woman's right to safety?
The government, which should be our protector, seems to have turned its back. Where are the leaders who promised us change? Where are the laws that were meant to protect our sisters, mothers, and daughters? Silence from those in power is a wound deeper than the crime itself. It sends a message that women's lives, their dignity, and their safety do not matter. It makes me feel helpless, yet angry, because justice delayed is justice denied.
I can't stop thinking about the victim and the courage it takes to live through something so devastating. Her strength, and the strength of every woman who survives such brutality, is beyond words. And yet, why must they carry the burden while the system continues to fail them?
As I reflect on this tragic event, I end with a few words, a prayer, and a demand for justice. Because until we, as a society, truly value and protect our women, we cannot claim to be free or equal.
"Woh maa ki beti thi, sapno se bhari thi,
Zindagi se ladi thi, par phir bhi haari thi.
Insaaf ke rang ab pheeke padte ja rahe,
Hak ki awaaz sunne wale khamosh ho ja rahe.
Kab tak yunhi betiyan dar ke jeengi?
Kab tak yeh zameen sirf unka qaid khaana rahegi?"
I hope, with every fiber of my being, that one day we wake up to a world where women are truly safe, where justice is not a distant dream but a lived reality.
Until then, we must keep fighting.
Ayush

I am sorry dear, i am so sorry. Maybe its we humans and our inhumane behaviour that leads to another inhumanity.
Few days before, a girl in Lahore Pakistan was raped in her collage. I swear my hands are shaking my heart is beating fast. I don't feel my legs. Is this what a girl deserves? No , no she don't. What was her fault? what's our fault?
First India, now pakistan ! What is govt upto? Rapes are increasing and they are silent. It doesn't matter weather its Pakistan or India. Human, humans matters. A GIRL MATTERS. A DAUGHTER, A WIFE,A SISTER, A GIRL MATTERS. Our life matter. We too are humans. We study not to get raped ....
Aazadi? Naam se hi dar lagta hai. Shayad agr ham aazad naa hotey to ham surakshit hote. Safe? Nahi hai ham! Baharat? Bharat mata? Waah! Naam shayad galat hai BAHARAT MARD rakhna tha. Ladku ki hi aazadi haina yaha. Ham ladkiya to darte hai inse.
Chup mat raho, aawaz uthavo. Insaaf mango. Apke ghar mai bhi maa, beti, bewi, behan hai. Unka soncho. Us ladki ka soncho.

A Heartfelt post
Read And really know more about Navratri… Raja Daksh ne vardan to maang liya tha Devi Aadhi Shakti ko apni beti ke roop mein paane ka, par apne vachan ka palan nahi kar paaye. Devi ne kaha tha unse ki agar unhone kabhi bhi Devi ko rusht kiya to vo unhe chodkar chali jayengi hamesha ke liye aur aisa hi hua. Jab Devi Sati ki love marriage hui Shivji se, to unhone unke rishte ko accept nahi kiya.
Unki shaadi ke baad Raja Daksh ne yagya ka aayojan kiya tha jisme unhone Shivji aur Devi Sati ke alawa sabko bulaya tha. Pehle to sabne unko ignore kar diya aur fir baad mein Shivji ka bhi apmaan karne lage. Apne pati ka apmaan Devi Sati se saha nahi gaya to unhone yagya mein apne praan tyaag diye.
Shivji ko jab pata chala to unhone gusse mein Raja Daksh, Sati ke pita ka sir dhad se alag kar diya aur Devi Sati ki yaad mein idhar-udhar bhatakne lage aur aakhir mein jaakar tap mein leen ho gaye.
Ab Mata Shailputri ka vivah Shivji se karana tha, lekin vo tapasya mein leen the aur unka tap bhang karna, vo bhi tab jab vo extreme sad phase mein the, mtlb mrityu ko amantrit karna tha. To Devi Parvati/Shailputri ne thaan liya ki vo Shivji ko paane ke liye kathor tap karengi aur itna kathor tap karne ke karan unka naam Brahmacharini pad gaya. Finally, unki shaadi Shivji se ho gayi.
Shaadi ke time par Shivji, Devi Parvati aur sabhi Devgan busy the aur mauka dekh kar asuron ne hamla karne ki planning bana li. Jab Devi Parvati shaadi karke Kailash aayi, to asuron ne bhi Kailash par hamla bol diya. Par vaha vo kisi ka kuch nahi bigad paaye kyunki vo Kailash par entry hi nahi kar paaye. Entry kyun nahi kar paaye? Kyunki jab Devi Parvati shaadi karke Kailash aayi, to dekha ki sab kuch bikhra hua pada hai. Ghar mein saaf safai bhi nahi ho rakhi thi.
Jiske baad usne uss asur ka ant kar diya. Jiske baad Kartikey ko Skand ke naam se jana gaya tha aur unhe ye naam apni mata ke karan mila tha. Isliye unki mata ka naam Skandmata pad gaya, yani ki Kartikey ki mata, Skandmata.
Ek baar kisi baat ko leke Mata Parvati ki Shivji se behes ho gayi, jiske karan unhone Kailash tyaagne ka decision le liya. Par uss vakt Ganesha bahut chote the aur aise mein agar Mata unhe chodke chali jaati to unhe Mata ka pyaar nahi mil pata aur unka bachpan unki Mata ke bina hi guzar jata. Isiliye Mata ne Ganesha ko vardaan diya ki jab tak vo laautengi nahi tab tak vo bade nahi honge, bache hi rahenge.
Ek taraf Kailash par ye sab ghat raha tha aur dusri taraf Mahishasur ne kathor tap kar Shivji ko prasann karke unse vardaan manga ki use koi bhi Devta ya nar maar na sake. Use lagta tha ki sirf ye log hi powerful hote hain, isliye usne sirf males se hi protection maangi, women se nahi.
Idhar rishi Katyayan ne bhi Devi Parvati ka tap kiya aur unhe apni beti ke roop mein paane ka vardaan manga. Fir kya tha, asur to apne character ke hisaab se chal diye devtaon pe waar karne aur unpar vijay prapt karne. Idhar Devi Parvati jo Kailash ka tyaag kar chuki thi, unhone bhi rishi Katyayan ke ghar mein janm le liya jiske baad unka naam Katyayani rakha gaya.
Jab asuron ne devtaon ko hara diya to unhone tridevo se help maangi. Tridev bhi to men hi the, to vo bhi unki help nahi kar sakte the. Isliye unhone devtaon ko Mata ke paas bhej diya. Mata Katyayani unki help karne ke liye maan gayi. Mata Katyayani ne Mahishasur ka ant kar diya aur ghanta baja kar ye shubh sandesh sab tak pahuncha diya, jiske baad unhe Chandraghanta naam se bhi jana gaya.
Similarly, ek baar Raktbeej ne bhi devtaon par hamla kar diya tha aur firse vo Mata ke paas madad ke liye aaye. Raktbeej ko vardaan prapt tha ki jaise hi uski ek bhi boond prithvi par giregi, uske jaise hazaron Raktbeej aur paida ho jayenge. Mata Parvati apni samast shaktiyon ko yaad kar Raktbeej ka vadh karne chali gayi. Unhone Raktbeej ki puri sena ko kuch hi palo mein maar diya, jiske baad unhe Durga naam mila.
Ant mein, jab unhone Raktbeej ka sir dhad se alag kar diya, tab Raktbeej ka khoon prithvi pe girne ke karan hazaron Raktbeej aur paida ho gaye. Mata unhe maarti ja rahi thi, parantu unka to koi ant hi nahi tha. Akhir mein, Mata ne Raktbeej ka sir kaat kar uska khoon dharti par girne nahi diya, balki use apne kanth mein bhar liya. Mata ka ye roop bahut hi prachand tha aur fir unhe naam mila Kaalratri.
Raktbeej ka ant karke ab samay tha unke Kailash lautne ka. Kintu itne prachand roop mein vo Shivji ke saamne kaise jaati? Aur Ganesha bhi to abhi bache the, unhe unki Mata ka ye roop dekhne ko milta to vo kitna dar jaate. Isliye fir Mata ne bahut hi sundar aur shant roop liya aur laut gayi apne Kailash par. Mata ke itna sundar roop dekh Mahadev, yaani hamare Shivji, ne unka nickname Gauri rakh diya. Jiske baad unhe Mahagauri ke naam se bhi jana gaya.
Ab mata Parvati ashtsidhiyan prapt kar chuki thi jiski vajah se log unhe siddhidatri kehne lage. To story ka conclusion ye h ki navratri me hum alag alag Devi ki Puja nhi karte balki ek hi Devi ki ashtsidhiyon ki Puja karte h. Ek hi Devi k 9 naam h. Or iss story se hame ye bhi pata chalta h ki hum chahe to kuch bhi haasil kar skte h bas intention ache hone chahiye or karm nhi rukne chahiye.
Or ek sabse bada conclusion ye nikalta h ki Jo bhi hota h uske piche koi na koi reason jarur hota h. Kuch bhi yuhi nhi hota. Or sabkuch interlinked hota h.
You can share yours also.

Women rarely deserve the so called respect aadar samman for being a homemaker/housewife
Only on the internet I see it should be choice and shit but where is the respect for the work she does? Women around me still have to take permission for visiting a place alone without their husbands and kids and if by chance they even go out boldly for once the family ends up questioning her and her work by a simple question: what do you do at home that you need leisure and break for? My mother had to hear taunts from other women of the same age for going on a solo trip also thanks to my old gen dad for actually being a great husband than this pathetic generation of sigma anda giga chad men on the internet
So no I will never ever advise any young girl about having a choice for taking care of the household and being a housewife or being a working woman. This society will never ever respect you for being a housewife yeh sab maa itna kaam karti hai chutti nahi leti sab dhoka hai at least bahar jake kaam karke thoda toh bhav rehta hi hai haan bahu/beti/ladki kaam karti hai khud ka kuch toh hai chahe 10 baatein sunna ho ki aajkal ladkiyan aise nahi late aati hai yeh karti hai voh karti hai

pure rant about women oppression under the cut
tum log na auraton ko apni jaagir samjhte ho. jis din tumne ek aurat ko ek aurat ki tarah dekh liya na uss din tum sach main ek asli insaan ban jaaoge. aurat tumhari apni prorperty nahi hai jise tumhe hissab dena oadega ya batana padega ki woh kahan jaa rahi hai, kya kar rahi hai, kyon kar rahi hai. tum log samjhte ho ki auraton ko tumhe apne se neeche rakhna chahiye, varna 'haath se nikal jaati hain'. Auratwin kya tumhare haath main rakhne vaali cheej hain? tumne samjh kya rakha hai humein? Jitne bhi mard hote hain aurat ki zindagi main woh aurat ko batate hain ki zindagi kaise jeeni hai, jo zindagi aurat ki hai, tum usse bataoge ki kaise jeeni hai? baap bolega kahin nahi jaana ghar par rehna hai, kisi se baat nahi karni, yeh nahi pehenna, woh nahi pehenna. Agar koi galti se aurat apne liye soch kar, pyaar main pad jaaye toh woh characterless hai ladkon ke saath ghoomti hai, jis bande se pyaar karegi, uska boyfriend bolega, ki kahan jaa rahi ho? kisse baat kar rahi ho, aur kisi ladke se baat nahi kar sakti, yeh nahi pehen sakti, yahan nahi jaana. Shaadi ho jaaye toh pati joh kahega wahi karna hai. Uske maa baap tumhare maa baap ban jaate hain. Yeh kya ho rha hai? ek din tum kehte ho ki tumhari beti tumhari jaan hai aur agle din usse kisi aur ke saath chhod dete ho aur uss anjaan ke maa baap ab uske maa baap ban jaate hain aur upar se yeh sab karwane ke liye tum paise dete ho? Fir pati jo bolega woh hi karna, ghar ka kaam karna, kapde dhona, jhaadu poncha, bartan, khaana, sabke taane, saare roti riwaz bahu hi toh nibhaayegi. Fir jab boodhi ho jaayegi toh beti hui toh uske saath bhi waisa hi hoga, aur beta hua toh woh kisi ki beti ke saath aisa hi karega. Auratein jab tak, chup rahegi, jaisa unke saath hota aaya hai, vaisa hi hota ayega, mard unhe daabaate jaayenge, aur auratein dabti jaayengi.
"tum raani nahi, abla nahi, apsara ho."
Women, please, make your own decisions and educte yourselves. Most men only want women, so that they can opress. I understand, there are men who are good, who really actually want women to live freely, but most of the men you'll meet in your life aren't full of fairy-tales and happy endings. Some only want women so that they have a slave. I ain't telling you to hate on one specific gender, there are a lot of men who are genuine, and loving. But, as they say, two sides of the same coin, all types of men exist, and you encounter all types of those men. Just know how to stand up for yourself and don't fear men.
went to a marriage saw just another bride living her life according to the men in her life was enraged, had to write it out.
