Note
I saw your Keith and Lance headcanons and now I wanna ask for Keith AND Kosmo headcanons even though you spoke bout Kosmo in Keith's
AAA of course i can talk to you about big pupper!!SO here is a special edition of my hc with Kosmo and Keith (and trying to focus on them)
Keith takes GOOD care of kosmo…but he is not the kind of person who brushes his fur every day or really insist in training him to be obedient, c’mon. Kosmo is Keith’s first pet (like real pet and not captured lizard from the desert) and like that , Kosmo has a LOT of questionable habits like drooling, jumping ON keith, sleeping with him wherever he is and Keith will excuse it or make it sounds like it is complete normal
Kosmo is used to sleep with Keith , like on the same bed…even when he becomes horse sized wolf, even when keith is sleeping with someone else. and nothing would stop him. If the bed is too small or it is a couch, he will sleep on top of keith or even push keith of of the bed.
Keith is that person who tries to be strict with his dog but can’t. And he tries and everyone is aware he tries but Kosmo just does whatever he wants.
THAT goes to the part where Keith actually likes Kosmo has a strong personality because A) makes him worry less about him since Kosmo can and will take care of himself and B) he is not docile himself and could never deal with a terribly soft  pupper when he himself doesn’t like to deal with leading every step of the way. For him it is a partnership.
also an related,
kosmo is not blindly defensive of keith either even tho kosmo will remain at keith’s side in any situation
and that’s why they fight well together (like with druid guy on s7)
BUT it all goes to another point of their relationship; Kosmo shreds alright? and Keith’s clothes are a good percentage kosmic wolf fur and it is impossible to get rid of it. That is life now. (and it is mildly suspicious when Lance’s general persona has cosmic wolf fur on it often)
Kosmo loves earth but doesn’t like earth animals much
Also, Keith and Kosmo share some traits and no one really knows if that is something kosmo learnt from keith, keith kind of got from kosmo after years or some universe’s joke that just put them together. both are bit staby and defensive with strangers and work on instinct. That Kosmo can transport only adds to Keith’s talent of ghosting people and it is worse when keith ghosts people BY transporting with kosmo…. at the same time kosmo is (seemingly) more cuddly and eager to collaborate than keith. BUt honestly Keith is just AS cuddly
Kosmo steals keith’s stuff when he wants keith to do something or get his undivided attention.
Keith at some point in the Atlas: “if you dont like the name kosmo you gotta tell me or they will keep calling you like that, would you tell me? yes you would tell me-”
kosmo would bite the head of anyone who tries putting a leash on him
one of keiths biggest achievements was being able to fit horse sized kosmo in his hooverbike.
when kosmo feels more confident with people , he shows his life long mission of making keith look bad in front of the others. (Ex: Keith: Kosmo is cuddly - Kosmo: doesn’t let people get near him. Keith: kosmo will get us there - Kosmo: transports alone some meters away and growls, etc)
Them good ol’ puppy eyes work on keith every damn time. Keith knows they work so well that he just…does what kosmo wants BEFORE he even start with the puppy eyes
Kosmo loves Krolia so much he gets restless the first times she is not around in missions. And keith tells him stuff like “she is fine “don’t worry””remember when she thought us about surviving on that whale?”  and it also helps him keep levelheaded.
and Yes. Keith talks to Kosmo way more than he would like to admit (and not ina puppy voice but it is such a cheerful tone it is endearing af)
The legend says that voltron fearless Leader, the Red Paladin, the half human who fought the galra empire, has a terrible beast able to destroy pirate fighters and kill on command. Reality says that it all is true but also they play fetch (or try to) and horse sized kosmo will sleep on keith’s lap after a mission when they are going back home.
keith buries his face in kosmo’s fur when he is particularly annoyed
SO YEAH, generally if you get Keith you get Kosmo by default and neither of them would have it other way.AND now that I am here…if someone knows a fic like this please sne dit my way
i want a long cheesy fic where kosmo gets hurt or something and needs some time recovering so he stays with lance on earth and keith  visits really often and kosmo gets really attached to Lance and lowkey Keith wants to have an excuse to come so often and Klance happens
Thank you for your attention and sorry it took me long to answer, my writing mojo is low but my love for kosmo is big

Norwegian elkhound rejected by Sun Myung Moon
Tumblr media
an extract from the book, Heavenly Deception by Chris Elkins (1980)
Chris Elkins joined in Tucson in June 1973. He left to think about things on January 5, 1976. He spoke at the Fraser House Subcommittee on September 27, 1976.

Chapter 13
January 1975. Washington/New York
During my months in Washington I hadn’t much time to think. The schedule was as hectic as ever, and I was realizing that this was the course of life in the Unification Church, whether one sold candles or “influence.” There was always something urgent to be done, and it was strongly communicated that individual effort, or rather, lack of it, could be the hand of Satan sabotaging the movement’s divine mission.
By now I was living on Military Road in northwest Washington, and I was managing the staff of the Ginseng Teahouse. I had been transferred away from the Freedom Leadership Foundation because of a conflict with one person there, and I had desired to move on because of personal doubts concerning the direction of the political wing of the movement after Nixon’s resignation. I had been sent to work in some congressional campaigns for a while, and I had participated in Moon’s Madison Square Garden Rally on September 18, 1974.
Now I was enjoying the work at the teahouse. It was a new venture of the Unification Church and everyone had hopes that it would turn into a chain restaurant operation. We served Moon’s ginseng tea, the Il-Hwa brand, and we prepared health food lunches. We had a staff of twelve but hired some waitresses from outside in hopes of winning them to the movement.
I kept busy, but not quite as busy as I had been at FLF. Certain doubts crept into my head, especially about Moon. At times, the only thing which confirmed my faith in the Unification Church was the conviction that there were no other alternatives—my parents hadn’t trusted in me, I felt, and the church Christianity that I had known before wasn’t a Christianity of commitment and action as this was. And it certainly didn’t manifest the sort of love that I experienced with my Moonie brothers and sisters.
I learned that other Moonie friends had doubts too, but that they were stronger than I because they had spent more time studying the Divine Principle. They had moved up in the Church more slowly than I had. Moon had captured my heart and will, but it seemed that his grasp on my mind was not quite so firm.
Once I was sent on an errand that challenged my feelings about Moon and the Church. I was called out in the middle of the night to buy a birthday present for one of Moon’s children. At first I thought it was a joke. But as it was explained to me, I realized that this was a serious and important project.
Keith, an administrative aide, was telling me, “We know that Father has been wanting to get the children a dog and is really fond of Norwegian elkhounds. Since they are rare and extremely expensive we feel that the best bet of finding one fast will be in New York City.”
I still did not see how this all tied in with me. Why not get someone in New York to get the dog and take it out to Moon?
Neil Salonen explained, “We need someone to do the job quickly and efficiently. If the gift arrives after noon, it will seem as if we have forgotten the birthday. Since I can depend on you to do a job well, I want you to fly to New York on the next available flight and find an elkhound.”
Then, half jokingly and half seriously, he said, “And who could better find a good elkhound than someone named Elkins?”
I dutifully chuckled at the humor, but I knew that he was serious. “Sure,” I said, “I’ll be on the next plane.” Paul, the Unification Church treasurer, handed me an envelope with several fifty dollar bills in it and asked me to turn in all of the receipts.
On the way back to the Center, I heard a voice behind me.
“Excuse me, sir.”
I wheeled around to find a clean-cut young man with a bucket of carnations under his arm. I knew that he was one of our fund raisers on a mobile team, but catching me off guard the way he did gave him the opportunity to continue his sale before I could say anything.
“I am working with an interdenominational youth group raising money for missions,” he continued.
I decided to play along. “Oh,” I said. “And what is the money used for?”
“We’re using it to help kids on drugs and to start mission work around the world to help people,” he enthusiastically told me. I had to work at keeping a straight face. This was the first time I had ever been on the receiving end of a fund raiser.
Coyly I asked, “Is this connected with Reverend Moon in any way?” I knew that that was the hardest question to answer. To say yes would kill the sale, to say no would be a lie too easy to be caught in.
“We support many churches,” he said. “We just want to share God’s love with everyone.”
“And all of this money is used for mission work?” I asked, knowing what he would say.
“Yes, sir!” he said, almost straightening up to attention.
“You do an excellent job at fund raising,” I replied. A bewildered look formed on his face. I laughed. “I, too, am a Family member,” I said. “If I hadn’t been, you would have had me sold.”
As we bid each other good-bye I almost told him about the mission I was being sent on. I am sure that he had no idea that the several hundred dollars that he worked eighteen hours a day, seven days a week to earn would be spent on a dog for Moon. Although he would not have questioned the expenditure openly, in his mind it would have indeed raised doubts. I chose to let him remain naive.
Once in New York, I quickly started phoning. Elkhounds were hard to find and soon I realized that I would not be able to get the dog to Moon by the middle of the day. But I continued, knowing that Salonen would want a gift to get there no matter how late.
I finally found a dog in Greenwich Village at a rather posh pet shop. Filling out the papers, I had to disclose to the clerk who would own the pet.
“The name of the owner?” the clerk asked me.
I paused for a second and obviously was hesitant about saying it. Suddenly everyone around seemed to be listening. “Let me spell it for you,” I said. “S-u-n M-y-u-n-g M-o-o-n.”
I could feel the atmosphere grow thick. Although the clerk did not say anything at first, she looked as if she had become frozen.
She looked up and said, “Is this who I think it is?”
“I don’t know,” I answered. “Who do you think it is?”
“The guy with the posters up all over the city. The Korean guru,” she said.
“Well, yes and no. He is the guy with posters up everywhere, but he is not a guru.”
“Do you believe in him?” she asked. By this time a small crowd had gathered around me.
That question always sent me into a tailspin. I knew deep down that I still had major doubts, yet after being in for several months I had an obligation to answer yes.
“That’s a long story,” I said, trying to evade the question. “I am a member of the Unification Church, which is a Moon organization.” A lady standing nearby asked, “Well, don’t all of you believe that he is the messiah—the return of Christ?”
I found myself automatically giving the answer I had been trained to say. “We believe that he is perhaps a prophet, much like a John the Baptist figure, preparing the way for Christ’s return.”
“That’s not what I have read,” she said.
“Do you believe everything you read?” I asked.
“Of course not,” she said, trapping herself.
“Then, I suggest if you want to know who Moon is and what we believe, that you come see for yourself.” Obviously this frustrated her.
“Well,” she said in a last ditch effort, “I believe in the Bible.” “Good,” I said, “so do I. And in it you will find instructions to judge a tree by its fruit.”
By this time she was flustered, and rather than argue any further she simply turned and walked away. Although visibly I had won the encounter, I felt inside that I had been deceptive, and it disturbed me.
By the time I got the dog it was two o’clock. I rented a car and immediately left for East Garden, the estate where Moon lived in Irvington, New York. If I made good time, I would be there by three.
Once I arrived, the guards at the gate were hesitant to let me in. They had not been informed to expect me, and until someone from the main house gave clearance I wouldn’t get further than the gate. The security around Moon was always tight.
Daikon, Moon’s driver, was at the main house, and when told of the purpose of my visit he gave permission for me to come in. By the time I reached the front drive, Daikon was there to meet me.
He was a very pleasant man, quite trusted, and extremely close to Moon. “Hello,” he said, making his l’s sound like r’s. “You have gift for Hye-Jin?’
“Yes,” I said gleefully. “We have a Norwegian elkhound puppy for her from the American Church. May I present it to Father?’
“I think maybe not,” he said in his Oriental English. “Father expect gift this morning. Maybe I should take to him.” At that he disappeared into the house for what seemed to be hours.
When he returned, he still had the puppy in his hands and motioned for me to walk with him over to the garage. Daikon was in charge of Moon’s cars and he slept in a small apartment above the garage. Upon entering the garage, I noticed the limousine and the Mercedes Benz. Daikon told me that Moon had a sports car too, which was being repaired.
He put the puppy down and said, “Father would not receive puppy. But, I keep him here and soon Father will love him.”
The puppy playfully ran around the garage while Daikon and I talked. The more I considered the situation, the angrier I became. I had spent most of the night and all that day finding that dog. Besides spending a fortune on it, my airplane ticket and car rental had made the venture quite expensive. And for him not to receive me and then to reject the gift only further increased the growing conflicts in my mind.
“We’ll need at least fifteen San Juaquins and probably ten Poconos,” I said, referring to our teahouse sandwiches. We spent most evenings preparing the food for the next day. While talking in the kitchen, I heard the jingle of the bell on the front door signaling that someone had come in. Assuming it was a customer thinking we were open, I walked toward the front of the restaurant to tell him we were closed.
To my surprise I found Randy Remmel, the choir director. “Randy!” I said as I ran to embrace him, “It’s so good to see you.” We laughed and talked for a few minutes and I asked him in for a cup of tea, which he gladly accepted.
We sat down in a quiet corner of the restaurant and began to talk. I was pretty much running the teahouse myself now and was worse for the wear. Often half of the staff would be called off on a special mission at the last minute and leave the rest of us to try to handle the situation. Many times we almost crumbled during the heavy lunch rushes. Keeping up the morale of the staff when I could hardly keep up my own morale was getting more difficult. Randy was a breath of fresh air for me, someone I could talk to.
Randy reached across the table, put his hand on my shoulder, and said, “How are you doing, Elk? I mean really deep inside, how are you doing?”
Randy had a way of reaching down inside me, going beyond the facade that I often put up for everyone else. Just calling me “Elk” made me comfortable with him and reminded me of our abiding trust in each other.
I opened my mouth to respond, but words did not come out. Suddenly my eyes were flooded with tears, and great sobs began to well up inside of me. For several minutes all I could do was cry. Randy sat there and soothed me and told me not to feel bad about crying and just to let it all out. He knew that I had been under a great deal of pressure.
Once I gained my composure I said, “Randy, I don’t know why that happened. I had everything under control until you asked about it. But, things are pretty rough. We are expected to make this restaurant an ideal business, yet I can never be sure from day to day if we will have enough people to run it. We are behind on our bills because we have been using Teahouse funds to support other church activities, and sometimes I feel the weight of all of this on my shoulders.”
Randy smiled sympathetically. “But you and I both know that that is not the biggest problem you have,” he said.
Knowing what he meant, yet afraid to admit it, I asked him, “What do you mean?”
“All of us are asked to do the work of a dozen people everyday in half the time, and unless we have absolute faith in the True Parents none of us will ever make it.”
“I know what you mean,” I said, looking down at the floor.
“Chris,” he said. “Don’t think that you are the only one having doubts. If we had all of us together at one time, over half of us would seriously doubt the validity of our actions. If we did not need each other so badly, many of us would leave.”
There was a long period of silence between us. Several times we had been interrupted by teahouse staffers asking me questions. Randy began to see how trapped I felt....

can you tell me by aknightley
28k, Oneshot, T
Keith works in his brother's coffee shop for the summer, expecting a boring break before college. Lance changes all of that.
The boy is still in the front of the group, but he doesn't take off his glasses so Keith can't tell what he's really looking at -- either the menu or Keith. Keith feels a flash of annoyance but smothers it and pins his smile in place.
i'm betting everything by aknightley
23k, Oneshot, T
(a continuation of Can You Tell Me)
A summer of dates between a prince and a boy who works in a coffee shop.
"I wanted to see you." Keith's eyes widen a little, and he ducks his head, but not before Lance sees the smile tugging at his lips. "This is the part where you say 'Me too, Lance,'" Lance prompts him, although he's ridiculously charmed by Keith's awkwardness.
"Of course I wanted to see you," Keith says, rolling his eyes.
*The Quilted Lion by geewillikers
97.5k, Complete, Multi-chapter, T
Keith is stuck in New York City barely making ends meet so he and Pidge can live in a decent part of the city close to her university. They scrape by on the illegal winnings Keith makes in street boxing matches, but his manager, Shiro, decides that it's time Keith gets a side job. He's whisked into The Quilted Lion café owned by the woman Shiro's been fawning over for over a year, only to find that he has more to worry about than his lack of magic and cooking skills- -There's a waiter at The Quilted Lion who is entirely Keith's cup of tea.
Drive It Like You Mean It by Zizzani
94k, Complete, Multi-chapter, M
The Castle of Lions is the venue for the city's most dangerous illegal street races where drivers come to test the cut of their tires. Lance has long defended his title as champion, but when a newcomer shows up and threatens his position things take an interesting turn.
*How to Train Your Voltron by nerdy_cait05
38k, Complete, Multi-chapter, T
When Lance McClain, a Viking Paladin who aspires to hunt dragons, becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon herself, he learns there may be more to the creatures than previously assumed.
so why don't we fall by aknightley
8k, Oneshot, E
Five times Lance used a pet name for Keith, and one time Keith used one for Lance. Keith has no basis for having a relationship with someone, so he's trying to follow Lance's lead.
The Arch Project by Seliphra
9k, WIP, Multi-chapter, M
When Lance McLain gets promoted to a top secret research project, he is delighted to learn that the old conspiracy theories about something crashing in the desert of New Mexico were right. No one is entirely sure what it is that crashed, but it appears to be a man. A very pretty man who hasn't woken up since the crash. Lance is determined to be the first person on the project in a century to finally crack the case of just what this unconscious being is. Human, alien, or something else entirely? But there are forces out there determined to uncover the truth, and steal it if they must. The Voltron Group, a well known hacker group will apparently stop at nothing to find out what Galra Associated Corperation is hiding. And sooner or later, Lance will have to choose where his loyalties lie.
*What We Make of It by wittyy_name
46k, Oneshot, M
Keith has been training for this for months. So despite feeling like everything else in his life is falling apart and could be summed up with a big, blaring question mark, he finds himself halfway across the world with Shiro and Allura, preparing for his first ironman triathlon. He was expecting some typical touristy activities and a grueling day of physical activity. What he wasn't expecting was to meet a gorgeous boy with bright blue eyes and a smile that made his insides squirm.
Lance has been in a rut, unable to find the happiness that once filled his life. Everything looks gray, and he feels suffocated. And that's how he finds himself halfway across the world, backpacking across a foreign country with his best friend, Hunk, and their new friend, Pidge. That is, until they run out of money and decide to get a job. He's having fun, and colors are leaking past the dam and back into his life. What he wasn't expecting was to meet a beautiful boy with dark eyes and a shy smile that broke those flood gates wide open.
What a Healing Pod Can't Repair by Remember_Me
55k, WIP, T
The compromised wormhole was ripping apart at the seams, sending everyone spiraling away in completely different directions. Lance could feel himself being pulled and bent in ways he was definitely not supposed to be. Stitching the team back together after everyone is separated is difficult, and for one Paladin rescue wouldn't be coming for a very long time.
*Watercast by Fishwrites
83k, WIP, M
Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!
(AU where Avians (winged folk), Galra, humans and merfolk cohabit earth. Shiro and Keith are avian soldiers, Lance is the youngest son of a Queen, Hunk is also a merman and Pidge is still looking for her family.)
Of Lions and House Cats by Ms_Towa
147k, WIP, Multi-chapter, M
Welcome to the City of Monsters.
Crime runs rampant in the streets, and the Voltron Alliance was established to combat the rise of crimes involving superhuman abilities. Revered as upholders of justice and peace, there are measures the Alliance cannot afford to take in order to maintain their public image. All they can do is protect the innocent, defend the law, and keep the peace. The Galra have been dominating both the city and the criminal underworld for too long, however, and what's needed is change.
Change is not meant for heroes. Change is meant for revolutionaries, for rebels.
(Enter Lance.)
tldr;  Keith is a superhero who's been pining after the cute boy who works at the music shop across the street from HQ. He also doesn't know that the cute boy is the same vigilante he wants to bring to justice.
*Dancing Lions, Painted Wings by genericfanatic
35k, Complete, Multi-chapter, T
Years after peace has been made between the Galran and Altean kingdoms, The witch Haggar comes for vengeance. The young symbol of peace, the half-galran, half-altean Prince Kalor is lost. His aunt, Princess Allura, and his bodyguard, Shiro, are heartbroken. 10 years later, an orphan named Keith sets out on his own, trying to find the key to his past. All he has to help him is a small figurine with a cryptic message, a friendly engineer, a technician and her friendly robot, and a cocky con man with a mysterious, yet familiar past.

They fuck in the Red Lion. "This is such a bad idea," Lance says, running his hands down Keith's sides and jerking his shirt out of his pants.
show me your kitties by boydivisions
10k, WIP, Multi-chapter, T
Lance just wanted another dog after his corgi, Nutmeg, died. Instead he got a cat and a crush on the cute guy working at the shelter who makes horrible fashion choices for someone with his job.
*Shut Up and Dance With Me by wittyy_name
152.8k, WIP, Multi-chapter, M
Lance and his friends have been regulars at the Altea Dance Studio for years. Not just for classes, but to hang out, practice, and spend time with good people who love dancing. Every year, they audition to be one of the few representing Altea at the regional dance competition. Lance always auditions solo, but this year he misses out on auditions and blows his chance to participate. And so does his self-proclaimed rival, Keith. Luckily, Shiro comes up with a brilliant plan: convince Lance and Keith to audition as a duo. With a little convincing, and a lot of effort, these two might just be able to pull it off and go to regionals... or they might crash and burn.
*Crowd Pleaser by WhatTheBodyGraspsNot
98k, WIP, Multi-chapter, E
Scoring the new bar-tending position at Lady A's strip club is a lucky break for Keith. What's luckier? He gets to work alongside his brother Shiro. Even luckier than that? It's a male strip club, which means Keith's never short of entertainment during working hours - especially when Blue Rider takes the stage. Because Blue's hot - definitely talented - and definitely taking an interest in Keith. The only thing that isn't so lucky? Keith's already got a boyfriend. That, and he's bad at saying no when it comes to attractive boys with magnetic personalities.
and of course;
*Dirty Laundry
85k, Complete, Multi-chapter, M
"Two whole months of free laundry in exchange for two weeks of being my fake boyfriend. Deal?” Keith hesitated for a moment. Was this really worth it? Hardly. Lance was an asshole, and he wasn’t sure what fake dating would entail. But, free laundry was free laundry, right? “Alright, it’s a deal.” Or: Lance makes the mistake of telling his Mom he has a boyfriend coming home with him for Christmas. Keith makes the mistake of agreeing to be Lance's 'fake boyfriend'.

Hiya ! Super late but : 5+ headcanon thingy about...voltron college au if you wanna ? :)
aksfkgdfgh, I did mean to get back to this yesterday, but I got distracted writing and watching House reruns (but the, “give me an AU and I give you 5+ headcanons about it” meme is basically always open, because I am always good to go on AU headcanons)
idk whether to go with the college AU side of the fic that’s actually updating on AO3 or the one college AU that has Hunk/Keith/Lance, Matt/Shiro, Allura/Shay, and Lotor being a pain in the ass because Shiro doesn’t want to date him (and for multiple other reasons, but Shiro not wanting to date him is a big one) — so heck, let’s do both
the AU that doesn’t have a fic at present
Shiro has spent two separate Christmases in the hospital for one reason or another. The first one was when he was in high school: he was working out too hard without actually taking care of himself, putting way too much stress on himself about literally everything (from being allowed to play varsity lacrosse as a sophomore to worrying about his PSAT scores to trying to handle Keith’s first crush for him when Keith literally didn’t ask and just wanted to talk to Shiro about it because he was 13 and didn’t think the guy he liked knew he existed), and after seriously exhausting himself and throwing his electrolytes way, waaay off, Shiro passed out.
The second time was during his sophomore year of uni, and Shiro was so certain that he just had a nasty cold but actually, he was down with pneumonia. And as it turns out, stress from finals week, not eating right, and trying to keep to the same gym schedule that you have when you’re healthy? Not the way to handle pneumonia.
That first time is also the reason why Shiro first started visiting his and Keith’s therapist in a capacity other than, “Shiro had to escort Keith to make sure he got to the appointment and Keith asked him to come into the office too (or possibly emotionally manipulated him into it, maybe both)”
There is probably a 95% chance that Pidge will find a stray cat and try to hide it in her dorm room, despite all of the, “no, you may not have pets in your dorm; exceptions can be negotiated about for disabled students but the rest of you are not allowed to have pets, get over it” rules
When Allura finds out, there’s like a 65% chance that she just won’t report anything as part of an awkward attempt to befriend Pidge
When Hunk/Keith/Lance actually sort out the polyamory thing, Keith is going to want to tell Shiro immediately. The only reason they won’t is that Lance doesn’t believe that Keith can successfully tell Shiro about this by using a Parks and Rec meme — but “successfully” here means, “telling Shiro the thing AND getting him to say the line that is a response to said meme.”
So, they go to Shiro’s room and Keith is all, “This is my boyfriend Hunk and this is Hunk’s boyfriend Lance.”
“Sorry… what’s the situation?” Shiro plays along because he knows that sometimes, you just have to let Keith communicate through borrowed words.
“Hunk is bi and he’s into me, and he’s also into Lance, and Lance is really into Hunk, and I don’t actually hate Lance.”
Hunk: “It’s not that complicated :)”
Shiro: “Okay, but seriously, what is the situation”
Keith: “I’ll tell you everything but only if you say the other thing”
Shiro: “*siiiiiiiiiiiiiighs* …The thing about youth culture is: I don’t understand it”
and then Lance, Keith, and Hunk celebrate because haaaa, Shiro said the thing
Lance really doesn’t mean to be an asshole, most of the time. Like, okay, yes, sometimes, he DOES mean to be kind of an asshole — for instance, when The Paladins get beaten at ultimate frisbee Lotor, Acxa, Zethrid, Ezor, Narti, and Lotor’s coterie of overly similar frat-bro bodyguards, and Lance feels like Lotor definitely cheated somehow despite the complete lack of evidence, so he starts cussing Lotor out and accusing him and the gals of cheating
—but most of the time, Lance just doesn’t really know what to do with his feelings. Especially when a lot of them are things like, “All of the pressure he’s putting on himself to succeed and do well because all his older siblings are awesome and he doesn’t know what he’s good at like they’re good at stuff”
and, “All of his little nieces and nephews look up to Cool Uncle Lance and he wants to be a good role model, and he doesn’t want to let them down and doesn’t realize that the tiny humans love him regardless of how he does at school or what a loser he feels like he is and about the only way that he could ever let them down is if he promised them something and then didn’t deliver on it”
and, “Lance knew that it was going to be hard to leave home and go to school, and he thought maybe it’d be easier because he and Hunk were going to the same place so at least he’d have his best friend — but then he had to room with Keith instead of Hunk, and Keith is THE WORST, but Hunk actually kinda likes Keith and Keith sucks at flirting and Lance feels like he has no right to feel jealous because obviously he’s not in love with Hunk or anything don’t be stupid they’re just best friends and Hunk probably wouldn’t want to be with Lance anyway, and oh god why does everything hurt”
—all of which sort of boils over into Lance crying on Shiro’s shoulder when Shiro tries to sit him down in the Cool RA Single for a Talk about how he and Keith’s mutual antagonism has been steadily escalating (and the whole, “let’s sit all three of us down and hash out your differences and make a plan to handle this” idea went over like a lead balloon because Keith and Lance were both on the defensive, so nothing got discussed in a constructive fashion)
Granted, Lance was on the defensive during the one-on-one chat too, but mostly because he assumed that Shiro was going to take Keith’s side in this by default because they have history together and apparently Hunk is going out with Keith on Friday night so why wouldn’t Shiro take Keith’s side, too
This boiling over of emotion ends with Shiro feeling like he is in way over his head about trying to get Keith and Lance to just…… not even, “get them to be friends,” but, “get them to please stop it with deliberately antagonizing each other, for the love of god, please”
—but also with him going, “Okay, I’m not saying that you need to go to therapy or talk to me about your problems or anything? But if you want to talk to someone, there’s no shame in doing that and it can help a lot, if you let it”
—which in turn results in Lance hugging him tighter and crying a bit more (at least in the short term)
I mean, look, things will get better after this but Lancey-Lance has a LOT of pent-up emotions and Shiro gives nice hugs and says that he doesn’t care about people crying up his shirts, so. We’ll get to an okay place, but Lance has to cry it out first.
Shiro is the only person who doesn’t think the, “world’s okayest dad” mug that Lance and Hunk got him for Christmas is hilarious. He is NOT anybody’s father. Big brother figure — okay, sure, he can deal with that, but he isn’t anybody’s dad, will you please stop calling him that, saying things like, “I’m not mad, I’m disappointed” doesn’t make him any shade of paternal okay.
I mean, he drinks out of the mug anyway because coffee is coffee and as long as the coffee gets into his mouth safely, Shiro doesn’t mind what its container looks like. But still. He’s not your dad.
Everyone else still thinks the mug is hilarious, though (well, okay, Keith thought it was funny for a little bit and has since gotten over it, and Pidge only thought that it was mildly amusing and now she wishes that everyone would just shut up about it).
But yes, they get that Shiro isn’t literally anybody’s dad and that strictly speaking, he is more of an older brother figure than a dad — it’s just that nobody makes, “world’s okayest brother” mugs as far as they know, and Shiro still does things like the whole, “I’m not mad, I’m disappointed” thing until he tries to put conscious effort into NOT doing them (and even then, he still does them)
So, if you ask anyone but Shiro (and Keith and Pidge), that mug is hilarious
the tall, smart, good-looking AU
Shay organized an anti-M//ilo Y//iannopoulous protest back in February because Dean Zarkon was going to let that fucker come to campus and speak. It didn’t turn into full-scale riots like the protests out at UC Berkeley, but there was nevertheless resistance from the student conservative groups, and although the “presentation” was sparsely attended, it also wasn’t canceled like Shay was hoping to get.
Keith thinks that this is a perfectly interesting story about things that actually matter and doesn’t get why the other people in his creative nonfiction class with Dr. Ryner think he should skip writing In Cold Blood!Capote-inspired reportage about the protested and instead write a fucking BuzzFeed Lives piece about how he had this one abusive douchebag foster grandfather who got bitten by a Texas coral snake and died and it was the best day ever
Kolivan is head of the history department. He’s married to Antok, who is also a history professor, and they have a dog called Rufus. They’ve been calling their relationship status, “married” since 1997 (and they’ve been legally married since 2004, when they took advantage of the ruling in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health to make if official). Here is essentially how their proposal went:
Antok: “The only reason you’re trying to pull away is because you’re too scared to marry me!”
Kolivan: “I am absolutely not scared of anything, I LOVE you! If you truly meant the proposal, then you would stand behind your alleged convictions, so I can only conclude that YOU are too scared to let yourself marry ME and are projecting your insecurities because—”
Antok: “WHY WOULD I PROPOSE AT ALL IF I DIDN’T MEAN IT”
Kolivan: “I DON’T KNOW EVERYTHING DO I LOOK PSYCHIC TO YOU”
Antok: “WHAT DOES A PSYCHIC EVEN LOOK LIKE”
Kolivan: “YOU SAID YOU’D GIVE ME TIME TO THINK IT OVER”
Antok: “YEAH. I AGREED TO A WEEK. YOU’VE HAD THREE. JUST ADMIT IT, YOU ARE TOO DAMN SCARED TO MARRY ME”
Kolivan: “I AM NOT SCARED, I’LL MARRY THE SHIT OUT OF YOU RIGHT NOW”
Antok: “OH YEAH? PROVE IT”
Kolivan: “FINE I WILL *fumbles about trying to put on Antok’s engagement ring and refuses help until he finally gets it right by himself* …There! ……Uh, do you know any jewelers that are open right now or would a Ring-Pop from the bodega on the corner be an acceptable stand-in until morning”
—at least they didn’t have to do that again in 2004. Antok just got home really late on the day the ruling was announced (because he’d had an unexpected hospital visit and had hung around to see if his sister would need him and Kolivan to watch her kids for the night) — which she didn’t, in the end, but it still took a while to decide that it was all okay and he called to say that he’d be late but couldn’t keep up as much as he wanted because cellphones circa 2004……
So, when Antok got home, he found Kolivan asleep on the kitchen table, surrounded by a dinner that had gotten cold, a cake he’d made himself, balloons that seemed totally out-of-place in proximity to Kolivan, one of Antok’s scented candles (which had burned down enough that it was like five minutes from setting off their smoke alarm), and a Ring-Pop because he thought it would be a fun callback to their original proposal
(I mean, Kolivan also had another ring to give his husband and had successfully kept it under-wraps for three weeks because he usually doesn’t let himself hope so much — he would tell you that he always hopes for the best but experience, unfortunately, tells him to expect the worst [and if you get that this is a reference to Deep Space 9, you are Kolivan’s friend now] — but he was incredibly, unusually hopeful about how the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court would ultimately rule in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health)
Anyway, this was all so sweet that Antok just…… didn’t wake his husband up until after he’d gotten his camera and taken a picture for posterity’s sake
—and yet, they still periodically have incidents like, “Antok comes and interrupts Kolivan’s class for, ‘serious department business’ that is actually more like, ‘personal issues that are significant but could have waited until after class’ and Kolivan proceeds to spend seven minutes telling his students about why intra-Departmental romances are a bad idea”
or, “Kolivan forgets his own birthday again and, the next day, Antok starts off his class by calling some historical figure an idiot and yeah okay, maybe it sounds like he’s just picking on Napoleon in order to break down the whole, ‘Seeing these historical personages as Huge Important People, rather than as actual human beings, which in turn makes your scholarship less reliable’ thing… but then he gets to the part like, ‘I mean, if you think about it, Joséphine de Beauharnais probably only had her alleged affairs, if she did indeed have them, because Napoleon was a buffoon who was too absorbed in his work to remember his own birthday after she worked so hard to make it nice for him’ and everybody is just like, ‘oh jeez Kolivan really screwed up this time, didn’t he’“
But their dramatics aside, they eventually calm down, talk, and work it out every time because okay yes, they’re both disasters when you get to know them, but they’re disasters who love each other and care about this relationship
(Still, it is generally agreed that Thace probably made the best call by marrying a therapist who is affiliated with the college literally only because Ulaz is married to Thace, and because he sometimes gets clients referred to him by the mental health folks at student health services)
You know that old Arrested Development bit that goes, “Get me a vodka rocks.” / “Mother, it’s breakfast.” / “*sighs, rolls eyes* Fine, and a piece of toast” — yeah, no, Lotor and Honerva have done that exact bit before
One time when they were in undergrad, Ezor and Zethrid tried to make Lotor watch Arrested Development with them because they thought he’d probably find it funny and it might be like a therapeutic outlet for him. They ignored Acxa’s multiple warnings about how this was a terrible idea and it wasn’t going to work……
When Lotor made it through exactly four episodes before kinda breaking down and demanding to know what was so hilarious about a bunch of horrible, self-absorbed people screwing each other over and treating each other like garbage, these parents don’t even see their children as human beings how is this FUNNY, what the fuck is WRONG with the people who made this show, why does everyone love it so much, THIS IS HORRIBLE WHY ARE YOU EVEN MAKING HIM WATCH IT?
……Yeah, it was all Acxa could do not to tell them, “I told you so”
Mostly she didn’t because having known Lotor the longest means that she’s usually the one who has the easiest time of getting through to him in a constructive, helpful fashion when he’s being an even worse mess than usual, or having some kind of meltdown, or similar
Trying to discuss any of the show’s redeeming qualities with Lotor still will not end well. Because…… no, seriously. The Bluth-Fünkes and their misadventures hit waaaay too close to home for him, and remind him of Zarkon and Honerva most obviously (but also of all the extended family members who he pretty openly hates), and just
Don’t go there
Please for the love of God, I’m begging you: do not go there with Lotor, it’s a terrible idea for everyone
If you want to do any dysfunctional family comedies with him, your choices are Little Miss Sunshine and, “absolutely nothing, that is the only option, you can have Little Miss Sunshine or you can pick a genre other than dysfunctional family comedies”
Keith is going to be slightly confused when he gets to the Battle of the Bands on November 3rd and sees Acxa there. Because they have met before, while they were trying to switch between hiding and fighting back against some of the Conservative student groups that were antagonizing at Shay’s protest, and Keith hasn’t seen her around since then. Mostly, he hasn’t seen Acxa because she isn’t actually a student or in any way tied to the college; she just showed up for the protest because she agreed with Shay about not wanting that fuckhead anywhere near her city
Keith is not going to be confused by Zethrid, when he meets her, but basically everyone else is going to be confused by the fact that the two of them actually get along, because both of them have bad tempers and neither of them is really known for having stellar social skills
They’re going to talk to each other because Zethrid is all, “So how do you know my girlfriend and why did you two just have a sort of awkward moment of recognition” so Keith tells her, and aside from both of them thinking it was totally awesome how Acxa threw a brick at some skinhead and didn’t get caught, Keith is all, “*shrugs* You don’t have to apologize for assuming anything and getting defensive or whatever, I totally get wanting to protect the people you love and being willing to beat the shit out of someone to do it”
Zethrid: “*eyebrow arches because…… uh huh, Keith, you are 5’9” and you certainly look skinny even if you’re pretty strong, so you’ll excuse Zethrid for being skeptical* When have you ever beaten the shit out of anybody in your life, little man”
Keith: “……Do you want a romantically relevant example or my favorite example”
Zethrid: “………idk, let’s say both”
Keith: “Okay, well, the romantically relevant example was this one time in Chicago? Shiro, his old roommate, and I went out to a bar, and when we were all leaving, there were some skinheads going at these other guys. So, Shiro’s pretty drunk at the time and has even less impulse control than I did, and he runs right in to play big damn heroes, which ends up with him getting stabbed. Next thing I know, I’m pouncing this skinhead who’s like about Shiro’s height but built bigger than you, pummeling him because he stabbed Shiro. Apparently, I actually did some good damage before he shook me off, but I was kinda drunk too and got a concussion out of it, and my memory of it is a little fuzzy”
Zethrid: “Okay what about your favorite example”
Keith: “I had this foster one brother who liked to do shit like locking me in the cupboard under the stairs or locking me out of the house for several days so he could fuck his girlfriend. At the time, I also had a crush on this girl I went to school with. I mean, we were like 13 and neither of us had very many friends, so it’s not like we dated or anything, but she had a shitty home-life too and we got along. Anyway, I had her over one afternoon so we could work on a thing for our science class, and Bryce started being an asshole, so I kicked him in the nuts so hard that we had to go to the ER and get them pulled back out.”
Zethrid: “NICE. ……I like you. :)”
Keith: “……thank you? ……I think I like you, too.”
Lotor, probably: “Zethrid, nooooo, don’t like the street rat, please, I beg of you, it’s bad enough that Shiro likes him and Acxa thinks he’s okay, NOT YOU TOO ZETHRID, ZETHRID WHYYYYY”
Shiro and Acxa: “*facepalming forever because: 1. they know that they should encourage their Keith and Zethrid in making friends because they both do that so rarely, but… 2. for fuck’s sakes, why are you two bonding over a shared appreciation for violence, like? sdkffkhr, Shiro and Acxa are not outright OPPOSED to violence but can you two please find something else to bond over… and 3. ugh someone really has to go deal with Lotor before he has a full-blown temper tantrum and neither Shiro nor Acxa wants to be that person tonight, they really, really don’t*”
Coran does more active work with the students as the Assistant Dean of Student Life than Zarkon does as the full Dean of Student Life, but it’s an open secret that Zarkon doesn’t want this job — he’d rather just be the President of the University, but in lieu of that, Dean of Faculty is his ideal position — and that he makes Coran deal with more shit while inventing a bunch of bureaucratic reasons why he can’t do it himself.
Strictly speaking, Zarkon could probably get away with a lot more than he already does if he said something about his Chemistry professor wife being a high-functioning alcoholic while their son is sort of perpetually up at the edge of a meltdown cliff, but that would require him to:
1. acknowledge that Honerva has an actual problem instead of trusting that she totally has it under control because she’s a genius and he’s suspending good judgment because he loves her;
2. take Lotor’s problems seriously instead of dismissing him as a little more than a spoiled brat and an overly entitled pain in Zarkon’s ass;
and 3. care about his family’s actual health and overall well-being more than he cares about what the neighbors think and what the other people on campus think and, in general, about what kind of image his family projects to everybody else
—which means that this is basically never going to happen, since even if one of those things came to pass, the other two almost definitely wouldn’t unless Honerva was like, actually dying right here, right now, and Zarkon could not possibly find a way to escape dealing with the consequences of his bullshit choices and how much familial dysfunction that he’s allowed to fester by not taking any of it seriously, thinking that everyone could handle it fine, etc.
After a mix-up with his scholarships and grants that resulted in him losing his student housing, Keith did a lot of sleeping on campus couches while showering at the campus gym and he somehow managed to convince most everyone that he was totally fine…… until he relied on his old trick of sleeping in people’s cars, broke into Alfor’s, and got caught by Allura (who was his girlfriend at the time) and her fancy diplomat father.
The retort, “I mean, you should be glad to see me, I broke in while sleep-deprived and strung out on potentially heart attack-inducing amounts of coffee, so you clearly need a better security system on your Benz” did not go over well
Like, Alfor appreciated Keith’s attempt at humor, and the point about needing to get the security system checked on his car, and Keith’s sense of self-reliance…… but on the other hand, Allura’s boyfriend was all but passed out in Alfor’s backseat and tried to leave when Alfor offered him one of the guest rooms at their place uptown, so
That was kinda worrisome, yeah
Also not really the best way to meet your girlfriend’s father for the first time

Princesses and Pirates
Pairing: Allura x Nyma Rating: General  Prompt: Adventure  Word count: 2394
Part one of several, possibly??
Alternate universe-- Allura is a princess with a hobby for cartography, and Nyma is a pirate on the high seas.
Captain Nyma Roberts (not her real surname, but that didn’t really matter) was the scourge of the seven seas. She robbed everyone who crossed her path, occasionally kidnapped people and generally made a nuisance of herself. She wasn’t an enormous problem, at least not one that the Altean Navy actively sought her out, though posters announcing her bounty and displaying her face were in every town. Her ship, the Beezer, was also well known, a ghostly white and blue on the horizon.
That was why when the Castle of Lions, carrying Altea’s greatest treasure spotted her ship nearby, she sped away. It didn’t work, of course. The Beezer was far faster than any Altean ship could hope to be, and ran down the Castle of Lions within half of a varga. She sank deep hooks into the wood of the Castle, drawing her close.
“Cut the ropes!” The captain called as mist set in. “Oh, don’t do that. Your fancy boat’s ruined anyway.” A new voice called. The crew turned to see a woman in an overly large hat sitting on the railing up to the wheel. The helmsman tried to call out, but was sadly muffled by the gag Nyma had graciously given him. While the crew of the Castle was distracted, the crew of the Beezer swung over and begun the battle. Nyma dodged a few sword swings, tripped a few navy soldiers, and made her way over to the cabins.
Every crewman on the Castle was on deck, so it was easy for Nyma to inspect the ship for any so called treasure. In all honesty, it seemed entirely ordinary. She pouted, then noticed a small room out of the way. An excellent place for treasure, it seemed. She tried the door, then pulled a dagger out of her boot to pick the lock. The door swung open, and a young woman with white hair and dark skin tumbled out, clutching a decorative dagger herself.
“I sincerely hope that’s not Altea’s greatest treasure.” Nyma noted. “Anyway, who are you?” The woman gave her an angry look. “I’m… Allura. I’m a cartographer.” “Now see, that interests me. A cartographer would be worth more than gold to me.” Nyma purred. “Apologies, I’ve failed to introduce myself—” “Everyone knows who you are.” Allura interrupted. “Get off my ship.”
Nyma laughed. “Wow, rude. I’m just here to take your treasure, and I’ll leave.” “There is no treasure.” Allura spat. “You were fed false information.” Nyma sighed. “I suppose. I wasn’t lying about needing a cartographer though.” Allura stiffened. “So you’ll take me?”
“I’m generally not averse to kidnapping, but my victims tend to be… unconscious.” Nyma noted, before offering Allura her hand. “I’ll make you a deal, cartographer. My men will rip this ship apart if I don’t bring back something. You can be that something. You’ll be treated well, I’ll give you my cabin, and not a single man will lay a hand on you.” “And if I refuse?” Allura asked.
Nyma shrugged. “That’s on your head, cartographer. We came here for treasure, and we’re not leaving empty-handed.” After a pause, Allura hesitantly took Nyma’s hand. Nyma smiled, and pulled her through the ship, onto the deck and swung her over to the Beezer. Nyma then whistled loudly, and the entirety of her crew retreated.
The captain stared at Allura. One of the crew ran to the hold despite bleeding profusely from his leg. Nyma whistled sharply and the Beezer retracted her hooks before heaving away. The captain of the Castle of Lions yelled something unintelligible, and they gave chase. Nyma took the helm. “Lance, Keith, get her underway! I want us at top speeds! Rolo, aim the canons for the Castle’s mast!”
“You said you wouldn’t destroy the ship!” Allura hissed. Nyma shot her a slightly annoyed look. “I’m keeping my word. Unless they’re stupid, they will stay out of the way of the mast. When she doesn’t check in, the Navy will scour the seas for the Castle of Lions—do you think I missed those clever decoys? The Navy cares a lot about that ship, and if she doesn’t get towed to the nearest port by someone passing, they will come and get her. Anyway, I can’t afford to deal with Alteans right now—the Beezer isn’t made for fighting, and I get the feeling they aren’t exactly happy with me right now. All extra hands to the oars! We’re going to make a run for it!”
The crew scrambled for the hold, except the men opening the sails further and catching the wind, and the men on deck aiming the cannons for the Castle. “Fire when you can make out individual sailors!” Nyma ordered, before grinning. “I suggest you hold on, cartographer. The wind’s against us, and we turn faster than the Castle.”
That was the only warning Allura had before she was thrown into Nyma, who she clutched for dear life as the ship creaked and quickly turned so that she was heading parallel to the Castle of Lions. “Light ‘em up!” Rolo called from the cannons. “Aim for the mast!” The Castle fired cannons as well, and Nyma smirked. The Beezer took several of the shots to her side, but was mostly fine. The Castle of Lions, however, lost her mast when a well-shot cannonball ripped through it. The Beezer heaved away, knowing the Castle couldn’t follow. Allura finally peeled herself off of Nyma, who shot her another grin.
“Can’t keep yourself off me, huh cartographer?” She laughed. Allura was vaguely certain that she heard one of the two men below mutter, “I taught her that!” “Your ship is a lot… rougher than the Castle of Lions.” Allura pointed out. Nyma shrugged. “True, Beezer’s not for the faint of heart, but somehow I didn’t think you were one of those.”
Rolo, a tall, lean man who perpetually looked either bored or sleepy cleared his throat. “Alright, Captain. Where’s the treasure?” Nyma leaned on the railings around the helm. “Didn’t find any—I think we accidentally went after one of the decoys. I did get a cartographer, so now we no longer have to deal with shit maps.” Rolo crossed his arms. “We’ve managed so far.” “Our map of the Altean coast is literally a zigzag you made when drunk and labelled with the names of cities—out of order, I might add.” Nyma huffed. “We’re lucky to be alive with those maps, and you know it.”
The men who had secured the sails then came over, and men started to make their way up from the hold. “Nyma, we were kind of expecting… gold.” A dark-skinned man in a blue shirt gestured vaguely, while a pale man with dark hair in a red shirt next to him nodded firmly. “Gold would be excellent.” The red shirt agreed.
“We’re not getting paid?” A large man in a cook’s apron asked. Nyma held up a hand. “I’ve never led you all astray, and I don’t intend to now. We’ll get our money one way or another. One thing’s for certain though—the Alteans aren’t exactly happy with us right now, and we have to work around that.” Allura watched the flirty half-serious pirate become a leader within seconds. Interesting.
“So are you going after Galra ships?” Allura asked. Everyone turned to stare at her. “What? You attacked an Altean warship, you can’t possibly be afraid of the Galra.” Allura crossed her arms casually. “If the Alteans catch us, we’ll hang. If the Galra catch us, we’ll… well, we’ll wish we were swinging from a rope.” Nyma said solemnly. “We don’t like the Galra, and they don’t like us.”
“We haven’t stolen from them in a while.” Rolo noted. “They might have forgotten.” “They don’t forget easily.” The red-shirt huffed. “They’ll hold a grudge against us, and our children, and our children’s children.” “You’d know about that, huh Keith?” The blue-shirt smirked. Keith punched his arm. “Enough!” Nyma cut in. “We need a heading. Cartographer, with me. Everyone else, back to your stations. Rolo, take the helm.”
They all assented in some way, and Nyma took Allura’s hand again, leading her into the hold and into her cabin. Allura snatched her hand back like it was on fire. “You… what…” Allura very pointedly looked at the bed. Nyma scoffed. “I’m not fond of touching women without their consent, don’t worry. I brought you here because my sextant is here… though interesting how you immediately went for the bed.”
Allura felt the blood rush to her cheeks, even if her skin was too dark to show it. “Never mind that. You want a heading?” “Do you have one?” Nyma asked, interested. Allura sighed, and pulled a crumpled piece of paper out of her pocket. “I found this in the Royal Library a few days ago—I was using it to compare it with other maps for fun. It’s detailed, but there’s an island there that doesn’t exist on other maps.”
“That sounds ominous.” Nyma commented, gently smoothing the paper out on her desk. “Any particular reason why we should go there?” Allura leaned in, pointing at the island. “It’s called Dlaezola in Altean, which in Common is treasure.” Nyma raised an eyebrow. “Even if we’re the first ones there, which it doesn’t sound like, I have an issue here. The Castle of Lions was supposed to carry Altea’s greatest treasure. I paid good money to know which one was the real one. And I’m sorry, cartographer, but you’re not exactly what I was expecting, and neither was a roundabout way of getting absolutely no treasure.”
“Where’s your sense of adventure?” Allura asked. “Even if it’s nothing, it’s still better than a routine of attacking trading vessels in some way.” Nyma watched Allura for a moment, before smiling. “Alright. If I go after your pet project, you tell me about Altea’s greatest treasure, and why they’re moving it.”
“Haven’t you guessed? It’s a person.” Allura blurted out. Nyma smirked. “Oh, I guessed alright. I sincerely hope your map turns out to be accurate, cartographer.” Allura froze. “Will-will you hurt me?”
Nyma scowled. “Never. Even if I were keeping you ransom, it’d be much the same as this, but with far less shore leave and more rope while you sleep.” She gave a small smile. “I trust you, Allura the cartographer. Don’t let me down.”
“You would trust me?” Allura laughed. Nyma cocked her head. “You trust me. You got angry when you thought I broke my word.” Allura glared at her. “I don’t trust you, you’re a pirate.” Nyma shrugged. “Whatever you say, cartographer. How long until we get to your island?”
Allura pursed her lips. “What speed are we at?” “Thirty knots.” Nyma shrugged. Allura wrote down some calculations on a piece of paper. “We should reach it by nightfall.”
Nyma smiled. “Excellent.” She offered Allura her hand. “Shall we return to the deck?” Allura hesitantly accepted, and Nyma bent to kiss Allura’s hand, maintaining eye contact the entire time. Allura’s eyes widened, but she didn’t jerk her hand away. Nyma grinned. “Let’s go, then.”
They proceeded to the helm, and Nyma changed course. After a few minutes, Allura struck up a conversation, feeling awkward in the silence. Nyma happily responded, and they talked for hours as the sky began to darken around them. They were finally interrupted by someone in the crow’s nest. “Land ho!” Allura looked up. “That sounds like a child.” Nyma chuckled. “Don’t let Pidge hear you say that. But you’re right, she’s young. That’s why I keep her out of the fighting.”
Allura blinked in surprise. “You… do?” Nyma put her hand over her heart in mock hurt. “Allura, I don’t need to add murder to my list of charges. I’m not a wicked lady, I even give orders not to hurt men like your soldiers.” “I… when did I become Allura?” Nyma looked caught off-guard for a split second. “When… when I stopped thinking of you as only the cartographer, or the… you grew on me fast, I guess?”
“I like hearing you say my name, without any honorifics.” Allura said, taking Nyma’s hand. “I suppose you were right, pirate.” “Call me Nyma, everyone does.” “I don’t want to be like everyone to you.” Allura admitted. “You… this is the most free I’ve ever felt, and I’m a prisoner.” Nyma smiled bitterly. “It doesn’t have to be—”
“HEY!” Pidge yelled. “DIDN’T YOU HEAR ME?  LAND HO!” Nyma glared up at her. “Yes, I heard--!” She was cut off by the ship beaching itself. Allura was thrown into Nyma yet again, this time falling on top of her, their lips smashing together.
“If you wanted to kiss me, you could have just asked.” Nyma remarked drily. “As a matter of fact, come here.” Allura had little time to react before Nyma close the difference between them again, much softer than before. She kissed back, their lips moving in synchronization.
Nyma finally pulled away, and Allura realized she had been missing something rather important that this common thief was finally able to give her. “Can’t have you telling anyone I kiss like a crashing ship, now can I?” Allura nodded slowly, and Nyma peered at her worriedly. “Did you hit your head? Here, let me see.” Allura leaned into her hands, well aware the only light Nyma had was off the ship. “Sorry my estimates were incorrect. I wish we’d gotten here before sunset.”
Nyma helped Allura to her feet, and they turned towards the island, ignoring Pidge cursing above them. “Well, it’d be more of an adventure to explore in the dark, right?” “You’re not serious.” Allura gasped. Nyma shrugged. “It all really depended on your answer. Well then, I suppose we’ll continue our adventure at another time.”
Allura nodded firmly. “And we need to discuss that kiss.” “We do?” Nyma asked in surprise, before grinning. “Of course, I’m down for any discussion you so choose, Allura.” Allura rolled her eyes, feeling a bit more fond of the pirate than she had meant the gesture to be. A worried part of her pointed out that if this was how she felt after several hours with said pirate, she’d be head over heels for her soon enough.
That terrified her less than it should have.

Will they act on their feelings or choose to do what each thinks is best? Title from the Keith Urban song.
Ch. 1, 2, 3
Author’s Note: Meant to post this a few days ago but got busy with college and the Oscars but should be able to post more very soon. Here's the Halloween chapter including a similar costume scene from the show, a certain nickname, and Dash finally shows up. :)
Chapter 4
As the term went on William was proud to see how far Victoria had come with her teaching and her way of speaking.  It showed even more when they had parent/teacher conferences and had a special meeting for parents of the seniors to better explain the senior projects and college applications that the parents were asked to assist their children with.  Victoria even took part of the presentation herself and had an easy way of conversing with the parents.  She was a fast learner.
She was also very optimistic and it was a nice change to have someone so cheery around.  William was usually more cynical by nature and his daughter was more introverted, so he'd never really been around a woman like Victoria.  Even his first wife Caroline wasn't like that when they first met.  She, like most of their friends in college, was more artistic and would get into these dark moods.  He had no idea how serious things would become or how worse it would get with Caro, but being around Victoria was a welcome change.
William looked forward to their meetings and just talking with her.  The topics varied and they both found similar things amusing, and even got into a long discussion over one of the Shakespeare plays as they disagreed on a few things in the story.  A few times he was able to eat lunch wit her, but normally their schedules didn't' match up.  They did though sometimes meet in the hallways or parking lot and would walk together, or they would catch each other by their classroom doors and smile across to the other.  She even gave him a nickname.
She first used it in late September and they were ending one of their meetings after school.  He had stopped by the podium in his classroom and was getting it ready for the next day's class when he heard her laugh.  "What is it?"  He asked confused.
"You look like one of those politicians standing there.  Like President Melbourne," then she shook her head as that didn't work, "no, Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne."
He laughed at that.  "I would hate that job."
"But it would suit you."  Victoria laughed again but she seemed serious too.
"I'll see you tomorrow Victoria."  He said goodbye to her.
She started to walk out the door, but then turned back with a mischievous look in her eyes.  "Goodnight, Lord M."
He wasn't expecting that but he liked it, as some of the students already called him Mr. M.  Now she kept calling him that when they would see each other and it had officially become his nickname, which he enjoyed too hearing her say it.
As the fall went on it got a bit chilly but the trees were turning into their vibrant colors and William liked to watch the birds from his window or in the courtyard at lunch.  Sometimes Victoria joined him and would bring her dog Dash when she brought the dog to school.  Dash took a quick liking to William, and especially to Kaitlin and Bonnie.  He would play with the girls and it warmed William's heart to see his daughter having fun after all the pain they'd been through.
That Halloween was very memorable as William wanted to do something with his costume to surprise Victoria.  Kaitlin helped happily once he told her his idea and they found items to perfectly get his costume ready.  As he walked into the school that day he was met with mostly praise, especially from Emma and she thought it suited him perfectly.  Peel, on the other hand, huffed and hurried into his classroom when he saw William as Peel wasn't one for celebrating Halloween.  His reaction made William laugh quietly.
When he got to Victoria's classroom he walked in as the students weren't there yet.  She didn't see him at first but he saw that his costume would match hers perfectly.  Victoria was dressed in more of a costumed ball gown styled like one of the Disney princesses complete with a small tiara on her head.  Dash spotted him first and ran over for William to pet him.
"Dash, what is it?"  Victoria asked but then came to a stop when she saw William.  Her smile widened as she took him in.  "Why, it looks like we matched up perfectly."
William took off his top hat and placed it on a desk.  "That we do ma'am."  He then straightened his long Victorian coat and walked over towards her, taking her hand and kneeling down for full effect.  "Hello, your majesty."
"Hello, Lord M."  She giggled again as their eyes locked.  Something passed between them as they silently stared into each other's eyes.
Before he realized it he brought her hand to his lips and kissed it.  As he rose he noticed her blush and he let go of her hand.  "Wanted to surprise you."  He quickly said and was grateful no one saw what happened besides Dash.
"I love it."  She said happily.  "Happy Halloween."
"Happy Halloween."  He replied and smiled at her again before he took his hat and went into his own class room.  William didn't expect to feel this way but he enjoyed making her happy and hoped that feeling of his own happiness would last too.

The Red Lion's Cub Pt 3
I think pretty much at this point I'll actually write this thing out on Word and post it on AO3, but I'll just continue putting some plot points or something here until then. Again no specific order
Part 2
“So Voltron is a giant robot that’s made out from four other lion robots like Red?” Keithek asked as he sat comfortably in Vesta’s lap, “and each one has a Paladin that controls them?”
“Nope, the Paladin’s don’t ‘control’ the Lions. The Lions chose who their paladins. They choose someone that suits them and not everyone is accepted by them.” Vesta replied patting Keith’s head, as her hand ran through Keith’s hair, “and Red chose me.”
“So only you can pilot Red?” Keithek asked while Vesta laughed.
“Well me for right now and eventually you cub, at least until you grow you can barely touch her controls let alone pilot her.” the woman snickered making the cub in her lap pout, his cheeks puffing out adorably, “but that doesn’t mean we can’t work on you bonding with her. But we have a lot to talk about before we can think of doing that. I need to train you first, we have a lot to do and I don’t know how much time we have.”
“You mean until the other lions wake up? Do they wake up when they find their paladins?” Keithek asked as Vesta sighed as she played with her cub’s hair, it was so soft and fluffy she couldn’t help it.
“Or the Lions find their pilots I guess it just depends where they’re located since four of them were sent off while the Black Lion I know is still in the castle but won’t wake up unless the other four lions are there.” Vesta said before she stood up with Keithek in her arms, “let’s get to work cub we have lots to cover and we need to use whatever time we have to get it done.”
“I’ll do my best to make you proud Master!” Keithek said determined as Vesta giggled and nuzzled her cub.
“I know you will.”
“Master?” Keithek asked as he was concentrating on controlling the size of his flame in his hands while making shapes at the same time. He looked over at his master who was sitting across from him as she was messing with some parts and items she had found inside the red lion, there was actually a sizable amount.
At the moment she was trying to fix something that was in pieces around her.
“ ηλίθιο κομμάτι των σκουπιδιών/Stupid piece of trash!” his master growled before she looked up at Keith, “concentrate the flame is dying, next shape Keithek.”
“Ah right! but uhm Master I have a question.” Keith said as he kept his eyes on his flame while glancing at Vesta.
“What is it cub?” Vesta asked as she glared down at the pieces trying to put it back together.
“I...don’t mean to be rude but why is it when we’re training you...you don’t have a shadow and leave no foot prints in the sand?” Keithek asked.
“That’s because technically I’m dead, I’m a spirit of my formal self that resides in Red. “ Vesta replied bluntly, “a spirit doesn’t have a body so no shadow or prints in the sand.”
“Okay. Wait WHAT!? You’re dead master but- owowowow!”
Due to Keithek’s surprise at that blunt admission from Vesta he lost concentration of his flames and the flames had touched his hands making the child cry out in surprise while Vesta looked amused.
“I’ll explain later right now let’s get that taken care of.” Vesta said dropping her little project in the sand as she picked up Keithek carrying him over to the spring to take care of his hands,” It’s a bit hard to explain right now but let’s just say I’m able to do what I am because of Red and something of mine that’s in Red.”
"Hi Bubbles," Keithek said smiling patting the large rounded nose that was nuzzling him, begging for more fruit," hold on hold on you big baby,"
Bubbles was a large sea creature that inhabited the ocean near where Keithek and Vesta had been living for several years by now. She had a long neck that reached up pretty high a small oval shaped head with a large round body that had flippers and a tail. She was a beautiful shade of blue but her body tended to shimmer and match the color of the ocean making her blend in with the water.  Keithek had  found her as a baby injured against some rocks along the coast when he had gone exploring with Vesta and his sharp ears had heard some weak crooning.
He had to push past a few rocks and saw Bubbles was small enough for him to carry in his arms, of course the baby was scared thinking he was going to attack her so as a defensive move she tried to curl up and protect her self but she had badly injured her fin so she couldn't move it too well. Vesta had stood back and let Keithek convince Bubbles to trust him it took a while but finally the little creature let Keithek carry her to heal up. Keithek had given her the name bubbles because once she was recovered enough she let out a happy squeal and literally blew bubbles from her mouth that glowed a bright yellow before popping showering Keithek in bright yellow sparkles.
"It's how they show happiness or other emotions." Vesta explained as Keithek was petting Bubbles as she laid her head in the half-breed's lap when he had asked her, "the bubble colors vary depending on how they're feeling, these are rare creatures when she's older the bubbles will be able to stay solid for a lot longer and can be contained as a continuous light source. Their bubbles are suppose to be able to do other things but no one has seen them long enough to figure it out."
Keithek looked excited about learning about something no one else knew while Bubbles just cooed enjoying her new friend petting her head.
Needless to say after Keithek had cared for her she wouldn't leave Keithek alone even when he put her back to the ocean so she could go back to her family. Keithek was sad too but Bubbles was stubborn and remained close to Keithek's side growing up along with him.
"Alright you ready for our swim? Maybe we can explore the deeper caverns." Keithek laughed as Bubbles blew out more yellow bubbles as excited noises left her," good so am I, let's try and explore as much as we can before Master comes back."
With that Keithek removed his top leaving him in just his bottoms and a satchel attached to his waist as he walked right into the ocean before diving down. Bubbles followed soon after as the both swam deeper under the surface, Keithek turned towards Bubbles and made a motion with his hands. Bubbles understood and blew another bubble only this one was a little bigger than Keithek's head as it surrounded him and he took a gasp of air.
"I love how we figured out you can do this Bubbles," Keithek said in his air bubble as the two explored the bottoms looking for interesting shells and other things that was brought in from other areas of the planet.
He wasn't the short scrawny little thing Vesta had saved he was now almost as tall as her with muscle built into thin arms that now looked like he could actually put up a decent fight. Thanks to his training with Vesta he got more control over his shapeshifting and managed to hide his more galran features by changing his skin tone to a more pale color with no fur on him either as his ears all but disappeared to smaller ones the same color as his flesh if slightly pointy. his hair while still had tints of purple of it was a black as night that curled up at the end of his neck and his eyes losing their golden color reverted to a dark indigo color.
"Red, do you think I'll ever meet the other Paladins?" Keithek asked softly sitting in the pilot's seat as his hand brushed against the Red Lion's control panel. He could feel a soft hum in the back of his head that sounded like a purr.
He had the display screen where he could see what Red was looking at, right now the two of them were watching the two moons of the planet settling in the sky as Bubbles was singing softly in front of them on the ocean.
"I know Master said she didn't know how long it could be since the last time she had seen any other Paladin was thousands of years ago, I guess I’m just a bit lonely and envious?” Keithek replied sighing,” I mean don’t get me wrong I’m glad I have you, Master and Bubbles but...I just want a friend I guess?”
His master would tell him stories about her teammates when she was a Paladin of Voltron, all the times they fought each other, fought with each other, training, missions...
Keithek’s ears flatten against his head as he pouted as he idly looked at Red’s control panel.
“Hey Red do you think you can call one of the Lions so we can talk?”  Keithek asked jokingly.
He wasn’t expecting a response much less the whole cockpit coming to life making Keithek jump as a mini screen popped out from the side making the half-breed look. There wasn’t any pictures on it and all he could hear was static as his ears twitched waiting to hear something?
“Red!” Keithek hissed worried that his master was going to wake up and think he had been messing around with the controls again,” turn it off what are you doing!?”
Keithek could hear some amused purring in the back of his head as if telling him it was okay. How exactly was this okay? They had no idea how far range a com signal could go and no way of testing it, for all Keithek knew he could be signaling an enemy!
“Red I’m serious this is dangerous and-” Keithek growled arguing with his sentient Lion.
HIs ears twitched when he heard something opening up, glancing to the side he saw a metal panel open and inside was a gorgeous crystal. Keithek couldn’t help but reach out and grasp it, he instantly felt warmth being emitted by the crystal it wasn’t like a fire warm...it was similar heat to that as if you were being wrapped in a tight hug. It was familiar to Keithek but he couldn’t place exactly why.
He rolled the crystal gently in his hands and swore he could feel as if it was beating like a heart? Before he could question it another panel opened revealing a small container that looked big enough to put the crystal in. Curiously winning over common sense he placed the crystal inside. It took only a few seconds for the crystal to glow in a mixture of red, orange and yellow hues that seemed to fill the container up before it disappeared back into the panel.
Keithek watched as the crystal power seemed to be doing something because all of a sudden there was more static and pop before it just stopped. Keithek eyed the panel wondering what exactly Red did reaching out to poke Red but he suddenly tensed when he heard a stranger’s voice coming from the screen.
::Mierda...the...ocean? Blue how are you? Two moons? It’s not Earth but still...::
The voice sounded so young almost as young as him, he couldn’t understand everything that was being said but it was nice just listening to the voice of someone new rather than the emptiness around him

“Dear Friend”: Jazz fusion keyboardist Patrick Bradley honors tangible and “Intangible” influences on his fourth album, due August 25
ALISO VIEJO (31 July 2017): The spiritually-minded jazz fusion keyboardist Patrick Bradley doesn’t need a special occasion like marking his tenth anniversary as a recording artist to acknowledge his inspirations both tangible and divine. However, “Dear Friend,” the first single from his forthcoming fourth album, “Intangible,” due August 25, does just that, slated to arrive ten years after the release of his first solo set. Written with the album’s producer, Jeff Lorber, “Dear Friend” pays respectful homage to the seminal musicians who influence and inform Bradley’s contemporary jazz, rock, fusion and R&B mashups released on the Patrick’s Song Factory label.
“My intent was to honor the influence and significant impact that late musicians have on me musically such as keyboardist giants Keith Emerson, Richard Wright, George Duke, Joe Sample and Jon Lord. Bass players Chris Squire and Jaco Pastorius and guitarist Alan Holdsworth have a major influence on my approach to arrangements and melodies. Their influences are woven throughout my musical experiences, abilities and styles,” said Bradley, who wrote and arranged the ten songs that comprise “Intangible” with Lorber. “The tune also celebrates friendship of all kinds - whether it is the intimate friendship between a spouse or lover, a trusted best friend, a mentor, your family pet or the friendship expressed through songs of faith.”
“Intangible” is the third outing for Bradley and Lorber, the latter of whom is a keyboardist widely recognized as one of the forefathers of jazz fusion, thus an element of mentorship is evident in their ongoing creative friendship. “Jeff and I work very well together. Coming into the studio, I had about 18 songs to work with for this project and we selected ten. Collaborating with Jeff always draws out new dimensions and makes me dig deeper.”
One of the dimensions that Bradley developed under the tutelage of Lorber was to cultivate the ability and the confidence to communicate as a trilingual keyboardist: piano, Hammond B3 organ and Moog synthesizer. Bradley’s nimble finger work dispenses harmonies in equal measures of power and grace, poignant and propulsive, riveting and rousing, and cerebral and accessible. His multi-voiced keyboard approach makes an individual track seem as if it is helmed by more than one protagonist with each unique keyboard instrument providing a different perspective on the melodies. In addition to the heavy usage of the Hammond B3 along with frequent spacy Moog forays, Bradley’s distinctive brand also consists of deep-pocketed grooves constructed by live instrumentation from a core unit of prominent musicians – guitarists Adam Hawley and Michael Thompson, bassist Jimmy Haslip, drummer Gary Novak and Lorber on synth bass, guitar and additional keyboards. A handful of cuts are bolstered by the brawn and bravura of David Mann’s horns. Paul Jackson Jr. cranks out a gale force of electric guitar riffs on “Tail Wind” while Andrew Carney’s trumpet thrives animatedly while exploring “Newport Coast.”
There is another essential element to Bradley’s recordings that have been present ever since he issued his debut album, “Come Rain or Shine,” a decade ago. “Music and creativity and whatever talents we each have are a gift from God. Love, faith, hope and even music are all intangible, hence the new album title. Much of our universe is intangible yet we spend the majority of our time seeking the physical and temporal things. I always want to encourage people to look beyond the physical universe and turn our hearts towards God,” said the Southern California native who balances his creative output with a corporate profile by serving as president of the Southern Pacific Region at Whole Foods Market.
Bradley’s singles regularly hit the Billboard chart, but he was especially encouraged by the success and growing support he received for his previous album, 2014’s “Can You Hear Me.” “It gave me a new drive to write, play and collaborate with a newfound zeal and energy, revealing where I am at musically at this time. All music has a piece of the artist within their songs. I find with each new project, I feel the need and responsibility to dig deeper and in a sense, be truer to the musician I am and inspire to be.”
