An idea that’s on the rocks and will get swept into the sea aka not get used in all likelihood
I think I would give Shiho what Umika didn’t get in the original LuPato story - a bigger role that may involve defecting from the Lupinrangers
It’s mostly because seeing Umika walk backwards in the OP + her status as the most moral of the Lupinrangers had me thinking that she’d end up leaving the Lupinrangers to become...well, a Patoranger ally. But that didn’t happen...
If anything, Shiho seems to be the kind of friend who is supportive and quick to defend those who get subjected to injustice/mean comments, like she did with Umika as a child. And in my head, I built up an image where she’s a lot more willing to stop being nice when someone is bothering her, and to cut to the point
Though this raises the question of Aya and Shori because the loved ones are essentially the nicer counterparts to the originals. Aya’s flexible towards change while Touma is rigid, and Shori is straightforward while Kairi runs in circles like his feelings are dead ends in a maze
There’s also “these Lupinrangers are far more willing to work with the Patorangers because they want to keep civilians safe” and “what would convince Shiho to even defect when she’s loyal to the cause”
Would the betrayal consist of telling the Patorangers about the Lupinrangers’ reason for gathering the Collection? Or does it involve arresting the remaining Lupinrangers...
I suppose it’d be a betrayal if it happened early on? But once again, what would convince Umika or Shiho to do a betrayal...
And it wouldn’t really be a betrayal? I guess?
If Umika had defected...if she didn’t tell Kairi and Touma, they’d probably get mad at her but ultimately decide to accept her decision. If she did tell them, they’d probably let her go
If Shiho had defected...she’d get the same reaction from Shiho and Aya, minus the anger
It feels like if they were to betray their team, then they’d give up their VS Vehicle and VS Changer to the police to resume a normal life. But that’s something Umika might do (she did long to be normal in the main series for a while) and ultimately something neither Shiho and Umika would do. They’re doing the mission for the sake of reviving their best friend, and wouldn’t miss out on that chance

Inversion of LuPato:
Shori had a fight with his younger brother, and got shoved into an alleyway. While picking himself up, he hears his little brother scream. All sorts of horrible images immediately fly through his head and he dashes to the scene, not caring for his briefcase, to find Kairi encased in ice. But before he could run forward and touch it, it shatters and there goes all the years Shori spent raising, protecting, teaching and loving his little brother. He thought he could help Kairi somehow...but he couldn’t. He failed, for perhaps the first time in his life.
Aya is talking with her fiance where she says “one moment can be life or death”. But then she hears the ice forming around Touma before he could answer her, and in spite of her heels, Aya runs while frantically asking “Touma” over and over on the phone. By the time she reaches the scene, she just stops to see the ice over Touma cracking and taking away the man she loved. And for added points, a shard cracks the diamond in her engagement ring
Shiho and her best friend were going to celebrate her manga’s debut. But as Shori stops for a moment, she sees Zamigo raising his pistol and Shiho runs to try and shove Umika out of the way - and fails. She’s several steps too late, her hands are still reaching out to push her friend, and she crashed into the ice, causing it to shatter into pieces and oblivion
You could just hear their hearts also cracking into pieces
And it was on that night where three different Lupinrangers were born

To continue with the idea of LuPato inversion
Shori, Aya and Shiho become phantom thieves, but they continue to uphold their morals as law-abiding citizens to an extent
The girls are more willing to break the rules while Shori experiences some hesitancy, considering that he’s quite similar to Keiichiro. Of course the Collection is a priority, but Shori will go out of his way to save other people in trouble, and the same goes for Aya and Shiho. He particularly has a soft spot for kids - and unlike Keiichiro, they easily flock to him. Unlike Kairi, he’s diligent with his job as a waiter, and he tends to bump into people who lament he could’ve chosen a career more suited for his skill. His spotlight deals with the guilt of failing to help the one person who meant the world to him, and he learns that he can’t solve other people’s problems for them, no matter how much he wants to
Aya continues to wear her chipped engagement ring. Since Touma improved in cooking after meeting her, it’s likely she’ll be the chef of the Bistro Jurer. Probably the best at giving out love advice but won’t interfere in other people’s affairs. Also the person Noel would probably get along with splendidly on the Lupinrangers’ end - the opposite (of sorts) to Touma.
Shiho designed advertisements and open/close signs for the bistro, hoping to use it as practice for when she gets Umika back and can return to a regular life. Shiho also gets Sakuya’s “crush at first sight”, but she makes it very clear that she’s uninterested (flashbacks in the canon indicate that she’s quicker to stand up for herself and others) so they end up becoming good friends instead.
The three experience more guilt for befriending the very people who are going against their goal and want to uphold justice

If Shori and Keiichiro have their own version of the “I’ve failed you” conversation (I love it so much and I’ll write 1000 versions of it), I think I’d want it to be something like this
Keiichiro: “I’m angry at myself for failing my duty as a police officer. I couldn’t be there for you when you needed me the most.”
Shori: “We’re not blaming you for anything. Even when we thought all hope was lost, we only blamed ourselves. I wanted what was best for my brother but in the end...I’m angry at myself.”
Basically both Red Rangers blame themselves for what happened; Keiichiro for not being the first person the Lupins could’ve reached out to for help (and he lacked the means to do so at the time), Shori for “causing” the events that lead to Kairi’s death. Actually almost everyone blames themselves, and that should set up another lesson for the inversion AU, where guilt can’t be erased but you learn to keep moving forward and improving in the process. People who generally provide this lesson should be
Satoru for the Patos (I also want Hilltop to pitch in here tbh). He has the most flexible mindset on this team - even in comparison to Tsukasa - and he perceives almost any experience as a chance to learn something new
Sakuya seems to be fixated on wanting his friends to be 100% innocent; another lesson for him would be that even good people in life have made their mistakes. Examples provided would be essentially the main cast and maybe even Hilltop himself
Tsukasa accepts the Lupins for who they are, so while she’s concerned over the nature of their job, she has the least trouble with any moral/personal conflicts whatsoever
I don’t need to write anything to elaborate on what all of this means to Keiichiro
Noel is someone who tries to bottle his guilt. It’s likely that his interactions with the LuPato teams will help them to unite, and for Noel to learn that he’s not alone in any of this. Actually, the latter lesson could be applied to the Lupins but Noel needs it the most honestly
Aya for the Lupins. She strikes to me as the most optimistic member of the entire cast - even in comparison to Shori. She doesn’t accept anything as impossible, if her flashbacks in the original series are an indication. In her case, she’s accepted her guilt and acknowledges that she needs time to heal, but otherwise she will keep moving forward when she can, up until she can see Touma again
Shiho protected Umika growing up and she even tried to do that before Umika died. I guess this makes her similar to Shori, though he needs to learn that he can’t solve other people’s problems for them. In Shiho’s case, a potential lesson could be relying on others but it’ll be different from Noel. Noel is a case where he keeps secrets (and causes more disruptions as a result of it). Shiho would be a case where she tries to continue being strong, even if she doesn’t feel like it
I think that means in this AU, whoever falls victim to Zamigo’s ice dies once the ice is shattered, and Zamigo stores them away as disguises. That’s where the importance of the Collection comes in because that’s the only way to resurrect the inversion Lupins’ loved ones

More LuPato inversion ideas
The two teams share equal spotlight, and the ‘VS’ quickly gets blurred since these Lupinrangers are more than willing to team up with the Patorangers
There’s no “it doesn’t matter if we fall as long as one of us obtains the wish” promise. Shori, Aya and Shiho make it abundantly clear that they do care for each other, perhaps more than phantom thieves should. Even Kogure, at first, thinks they should keep it professional as possible and thinks Shori has the worst case of not wanting to leave a comrade behind, but overtime warms up to the three phantom thieves who always offer a cup of tea and something good to eat
This comradeship is what causes Keiichiro to waver about his perceptions (and he already was at about, say, episode 1, hence his frustration because he believed he needed a strict view on morality)
They accept Noel quicker than the original Lupinrangers, and he thinks just as highly of them (but his favourite Lupinranger is Aya since she planned the welcoming party for him + enjoys his antics the most)
Since Shiho takes up Umika’s role to some extent, Shori and Aya put a lot of effort into Shiho’s surprise birthday party and even invite the Patorangers, to Shiho’s surprise and eventual joy
As mentioned in Shori’s entry for an earlier post, they tend to bump into people from their pre-incident lives. I suppose a big part of this version is that no matter where they go, their past will follow them
Shiho’s parents call on her every now and then, but it’s seeing Umika’s dad and how distraught he is, even a year later, that causes Shiho to cry over what happened
Aya would have some episode where she interacts with Touma’s family who, in a similar manner to Touma and his father-in-law, blame her for what happened. But she understands because they lost a son, she lost a fiance, and it’s not like she can inform them on what she’s really doing to get him back. Her sad smile is what eventually gets them to break down their walls and then they grieve together
I’d like this to be the same episode where there’s the obligatory “fake wedding to draw out the monster” trope
The ending will be played like the canon series, except we see the familiar silhouettes of Kairi, Touma and Umika as they rescue their loved ones. Caught up in relief and happiness, Shori, Aya and Shiho rush up to their respective loved one, but Shori stops short of Kairi. So many emotions pass through him because he’s gone from trying to actively help Kairi to realizing that not only does Kairi has to solve his problems on his own, he’s not so “little” anymore. He’s known it but he hasn’t fully believed it
Shori: I’m sorry, Kairi.
And then that breaks Kairi’s usual smile/smirk. He starts trembling, much to Shori’s concern, and then he’s the one who says “I’m sorry” because he’s gone through a year of not seeing his brother and living with the guilt that Shori gave up a normal life for Kairi’s sake. He even tries to do a nose pinch but fails. Shori sees this is definitely a time where he can reach out to Kairi, and so they hug it out and Shori is barely containing his own tears

The third edition of ideas to the LuPato inversion!!
Satoru lives. I’ve got three other LuPato “AUs” and they all have dead Satoru, so this time he lives because why not
He’ll chip in as background support for the Patos every now and then + serves as a mentor to his successor aka Sakuya
His presence should assist Sakuya in undergoing his development from an eager but insecure newbie to an energetic yet capable officer assured in his own abilities
I don’t want Satoru’s presence to be another case of “I was only here because my senior failed” tbh
If I featured a main ship it’d be Keiichiro/Tsukasa but that’s just something that gets hinted every now and then
No ships on the Lupins’ end, and no LuPato romances - 95% LuPato friendships!
Tsukasa should get adequate interaction with both LuPato girls/women since the main series didn’t take full advantage of that
Tsukasa is the one who begins the actual investigation into the bistro trio’s alibis. As much as I love Keiichiro, I didn’t like how his status as a Red Ranger gave him credit for looking into the case (but to be fair, in the original series Tsukasa deduced this at a point where they didn’t have enough concrete evidence)
Even though Sakuya is the one with the positive view towards the Lupins, Tsukasa will get along with the Lupins in their thief guises the best, even if she has some trouble along the way
She’ll even let them take some Collection pieces if they did the brunt of the work during a one-to-one team-up
Noel, as per the original series, is the literal bridge between the two teams. But this time the effect of his presence is more obvious because I’d like to make use of his two motives
I suppose another theme of this version would be that you can have goals for yourself and for the world
But the characters and their personalities will probably effect how this is played out
i.e. Keiichiro develops a personal goal of wanting to help the Lupins, but his desire to keep the public safe prevents him from fully committing to that. And that frustrates him more than anything
i.e. Shori’s desire to save his brother often clashes with how he cares for others. His frustration can stem from how he needs to prioritize a Collection piece over saving someone, even if the Patos are there to do it in his stead
This is what makes the unification of the teams so important
Shori doesn’t take long to deduce that Keiichiro’s a nice guy. Of course, he’s a little stunned at how extreme Keiichiro can go for his beliefs (aka being a large ham when fired up). On Keiichiro’s end, he thinks highly of Shori for his kindness, cool head, ability to keep the peace in his team and for being the oldest of the main cast. Put together, they get along really well.  A little too well. I mean when Keiichiro finds out about Shori’s true identity he ends up asking if he can help both Yano brothers (even though he’s only heard stories about Kairi)
I personally headcanon that Shori is ten years older than Kairi, and going by canon ages instead of the mistake I made for 40+ weeks, he should be twenty nine (whoa)
Essentially the ages are:
Shori: 29
Noel: 26
Tsukasa, Aya, Keiichiro: 24
Sakuya: 22
Shiho: 18~19

I think I want to change Justice (2018-2019) via doing the plot alterations I want to do except it also involves the LuPato inversion AU I have in mind
And I’d also change the title to something else
I guess this is one way of saying “improving on an idea”? Not sure if I want to keep the “Korean drama” feel of it...

Horobi used to be a museum guide Humagear, hence the katana, and his first forgotten meeting with Jin was when the boy was ten, on a school trip and the kind of kid who'd say he wants to be a dinosaur when he grows up, albeit replace dinosaur with Humagear. Guess what happened after that

I think watching Goblin clips counts as "research" for the AU
Combining toku and Korean drama is hard. But it'll work!
I found old Goblin!AU concept notes and everything is pretty much the same, except Keiichiro doesn't have a Patoranger baton stuck in his chest. As dramatic as the sword in the chest thing is in the AU, having the Patoranger baton would ruin the mood
This definitely has to be pre-written. As for the Inversion AU - I think “interconnected oneshots” will have to do. Otherwise rewriting LuPato episode by episode, chapter by chapter, will suck the life out of me
The thought that Keiichiro can see the souls of the dead in this AU....meaning that he saw Shori when the latter died...

More headcanons for the LuPato Kamen Rider AU (I have so many LuPato ideas...)
First part is here
A while back I got an ask for the AU fic meme I reblogged (I’m still trying to get around to the requests) so I’ll incorporate it here
Keiichiro resigned as a cop after becoming Kamen Rider Lupin and, to keep up an alibi, became...a florist
He canonically cannot cook, Kogure is smart enough to know that letting Keiichiro serve burned fish to customers is not a good idea
I want a “main base” that isn’t in relation to food
Most of his customers consist of admirers, primarily high school girls and young women. I mean...look at him? Really, look at him
He decides to do his best as a florist. It gets to the point where sometimes, he dashes away after the battle is over because he had to do a delivery. He could just leave it to Kogure but he doesn’t like going slack on the job, even if it’s a lie
Keiichiro wears a white suit as his heist outfit, and characters point out that he doesn’t need a suit in order to reveal himself because he yells at the Gangler
But in Kaito Kid fashion, there’s some good in having a white suit because officers would be focused on finding a figure clad in white while Keiichiro makes his get away in black
Keiichiro remains straight laced as a phantom thief - meaning that 1) he won’t spontaneously break windows to have a grand entrance, a door exists for a reason + he’ll just wait until the place closes 2) he’ll make sure the area is clear of civilians before doing anything 3) no flashy movements and 4) the public thinks he’s a “boring” phantom thief but love him all the same
Keiichiro actually dislikes it when Kamen Rider Lupin becomes popular
Ganglers defeated by Patrol aka Kairi have their Collection Pieces become badges
Kairi gradually learns what it means to be a police officer and what true responsibility is. I think he’d also learn that while Shori was more successful than Kairi was in personality, looks, friends and talent, he had his own share of struggles. Of course, Kairi knew that Shori probably loved him more than anyone in the world, but bitterness can cloud the truth at the most unfortunate moments
The same applies to Touma and Umika
Touma would likely be an effective instructor who keeps cadets calm. He might even receive a promotion at some point
It’s possible that while Umika realizes the importance of having authoritative figures in life, being a police officer might not be her life long passion. In contrast to Kairi, who’d probably continue his career because it filled in the gap where basketball was, Umika might even return to fashion school at the end
Uniform wise
Kairi keeps his jacket completely open. He only zips it up when he chickens out - and that doesn’t happen often
Touma has the tidiest uniform. Some wonder if he just pops himself into a dry cleaning machine and goes to work straight afterwards
Umika goes between wearing tights and not wearing them with her shorts. Sometimes she might even go for the trousers
Protecting civilians outweighs gathering the Collection, even if they’re power ups that would be useful to Keiichiro. I think this, along with the whole theme of his Kamen Rider persona, would serve as a ‘moral dilemma’ for Keiichiro
Similarly to SSSB, Keiichiro would have to learn that some things like world peace can’t be achieved instantly with a wish bestowed by the Collection. Everyone, even if they’re not police officers, is working towards making society a better place
Unlike the C&C AU and the Inversion AU (the latter already has Satoru) where the wish is granted with no repercussions, here the wish maker exchanges their life for the wish to come true. Basically - make a wish, you die
I suppose this is the AU where the main cast can’t revive their loved ones at all. There is the argument that Keiichiro and the others are willing to be selfless, but would that truly be called selflessness, knowing that bringing back someone will simply pass the pain onto them, and the cycle repeats?
In contrast to the inversion AU, where the characters struggle with guilt and moving on + they are actually able to revive their loved ones, this AU would have the characters learning to truly move on and that the people they care for will remain in their hearts
In this AU, Noel isn’t just a non-human - he’s a Gangler
Basically I’m going through with the original headcanon I had for him (and this is actually a one-shot I’m writing...but I’ll elaborate what I had in mind)
Noel was originally a Poderman who was turned into a Gangler by Gauche as part of her experiments. But before she could give him a locker, he escaped the Gangler dimension to reach Earth, where Arsene found him in the 1900s while on a visit to Japan. Arsene took him back to France, giving him a name and teaching him how to modify the Collection as a way of bonding with Noel
This is also why Gauche is determined to take Noel with her
Arsene spent several years gathering the Collection, and at one point brought home the son of his lover, who was killed by a Gangler in retaliation for Arsene constantly going between dimensions and stealing the Collection pieces
Arsene made a wish with the gathered Collection to make Noel human, but doing so left him with little time to live. In exchange for granting him the chance to be ‘normal’, Noel vowed to serve the Lupin family. Arsene died after a couple of months
Noel ended up serving several generations of the Lupin family and was basically considered as family. It was through one of the Lupins using the binoculars Collection Piece that Noel discovered the wish couldn’t conceal his true origins as a Gangler. Kogure also joined the service of the Lupin family several decades before the series
What motivates Noel to gather the Collection - and therefore assist Keiichiro - is to revive the last heir of the Lupin family who was killed on the night Dogranio attacked the estate in about 2015
This may mean that while Noel did develop his identity as someone who served the Lupins, he now needs to start a new life without them
I’d elaborate on the relationship between Kogure and Noel more in this case because
Noel is actually hundreds of years old but he looks much younger than Kogure who’s about seventy or so. Cue the age jokes and Kogure being the one scolding Noel at times when it should be the other way around
This low key sounds like something from My Lover From Another Star

Kamen Rider Lupin AU - naming and ships
Snapping of the Flower Stem -> a possible title for this series
An obvious reference to Keiichiro’s new occupation as a florist aka his alibi
Keiichiro had to break away from his straight-laced path in order to counter the Gangler, and the fact that Kamen Rider Patrol exists infuriates him as it did in the original series episode 6
Kairi doesn’t take the responsibility as seriously as Keiichiro would like
Kamen Rider Patrol is, by default, a symbol of justice and Keiichiro wants to gain world peace through that kind of authority - but he had to become a thief. He’d probably get wary of Kogure from that point on
And in a way his hunch is right with the true nature of the Collection’s wish
Though Keiichiro/Tsukasa and Kairi/Umika is endgame, more ships will probably be teased at
Touma ships are an example of this since Aya is permanently dead in this universe (but I won’t have him reciprocating someone’s affections because he’s still in love with her)
I’d rather not go down the route of “someone sacrifices their life to bring back all of the Gangler’s victims” because
Canon - the Lupinrangers were stuck in the locker for one year
Inversion AU - similarly played to canon except it involves the loved ones being trapped in the locker
C&C AU - the people not used as disguises are brought back without any losses on the LuPato crew’s end + the Ganglers are destroyed forever
But it...could be a possible route. Idk, it depends on how willing I am to kill off a character (probably Keiichiro)
At some point Umika did have a crush on Keiichiro because of his reported heroics in the police department + she’s met him several times off the job but she gets over it

Hahaha, I am nothing but predictable. So yes, Keiichiro it is. And if you’re willing to indulge me, Banba.
There isn’t much I can say for Banba…but I’ll still do him!
Keiichiro
First impression
Angry Genpachi Junior with ridiculous eyebrows, very hot-blooded, yells so much, will probably be made into comic relief to show off how awesome Kairi is. Probably not going to be my favourite
Also here’s a screenshot of the early LuPato days I found in my blog (interesting fact: my LuPato posts amount to 69 pages - I actually think I have more than that tbh…)
Tumblr media
Impression now
*DEEPLY INHALES*
I’ve gone from not thinking much about LuPato characters to thinking about Keiichiro every single day
Apparently I got sold by about episode 6, according to my blog, but I think I actually got sold with episode 17? I remember that after the episode aired, I couldn’t stop thinking about Keiichiro’s Korean drama stare
Thinking that he was stoic was an utter lie
NICE GUY RIGHT HERE - IDEAL POLICE OFFICER AND GENTLEMAN
DORK BEAN
JERK WITH HEART OF GOLD IS WHERE KAIRI LEANS A BIT MORE TO (but he’s also a Nice Guy)
Favorite moment
Every blinking second Keiichiro is on screen?
If I have to be specific…episode 49. I’ll never get over it and I refuse to rewatch it for fear of crying my spirit out
Maybe episode 14~15??
Or was it episode 30
Amnesia episode?
Yeah, I just proved that I love all of his screentime
Idea for a story
Revamped Justice 2018-2019 aka LuPato inversion AU
I actually think Keiichiro got adequate attention in the original series so I guess LuPato inversion will aim to give Tsukasa and Sakuya more “screen time”
Unpopular opinion
I don’t know if this is unpopular…but I hated how he looked before he grew out his hair over his eyebrows
Favorite relationship
Pretty much all of them??
Friendship wise, it’ll always be W Red
Friendship and romantic wise, it’d be Keiichiro/Tsukasa
And for guilty pleasure + purely romantic wise, my take on Keiichiro/Umika
Favorite headcanon
Keiichiro is actually from a small town in the countryside and managed to enrol into the academy in Tokyo on a scholarship, so he moved up to Tokyo (and therefore the dorms) to devote himself to his dreams. And linked to this is 1) his father is stern and strict but a wonderful man 2) his mother is absolutely supportive of her only son and 3) Satoru and Tsukasa are familiar with them
Banba
First impression
The moment I laid eyes on him, the moment I knew he’d be my favourite (male) character
In Super Sentai Strongest Battle, I saw how quickly he saved Towa from getting hit by Gaisorg!Rita and liked it (feat. how gentle he was with Kagura)
Tall, Dark and Handsome to a tee, something I haven’t seen since the days of our lord Takeru Shiba (and I was so infatuated with him)
Impression now
He’s not an older brother figure, he’s a dad
Perpetual representative of painkiller advertisements
Still very handsome, but it looks like his status as my favourite male character for Ryusoulger could be taken by Kou - or shared with him, like in the case of Kairi and Keiichiro
He’s got a quiet charm that doesn’t upset the balance of the team and I like it!
Favorite moment
Painkiller advertisement aka when he was done with how Towa was easily caught up in a needless duel…that involved leaf cutting and paper scissors rock
But another one would be how he silently berated Towa for letting the Minusaur get away in episode 4 via pointing a sword between Towa and Kou
Idea for a story
The series is still young so I’d like an exploration of what made him reluctant to work with people sans Towa
Unpopular opinion
Hm…I don’t think I have any?
Favorite relationship
Obviously sibling relationships aka Towa and Banba are going to be a favourite
I feel like Kou and Banba would also be one??
Any Banba friendship will be wonderful
Actually, I’m hoping so hard that Banba will get to interact with Asuna, share an episode with her and I can use it as a basis for fics and other things
Not that I need a ship to enjoy a series but it makes things enjoyable ^.^
Also their visuals - when they walked side by side in episode 4 I freaked out
Favorite headcanon
DAD BANBA
He’ll be the dad of all Sentai dads by taking care of his teammates like they’re kids. Draping a blanket over a tired teammate, hand over something one of them wanted when it looked like he wasn’t listening, spar with them, give advice despite his own problems, etc.
Thank you for the ask, @blue-sappir ^.^

I made a page about my fics on my Tumblr
Justice (2018-2019) has been renamed Receive the Flagrant Blessing of God and will be about the LuPato inversion AU I had in mind for the past month
The first chapter will probably stay the same. There’s only going to be changes in dynamics and plot execution and other things.
Like a number of my other series, it’ll be interconnected one-shots since writing everything in a linear order stresses me out
And I feel unusually satisfied with these two entries on the aforementioned page

I think the latter was one I found for something Build-related...
