hey! i love everything you write and can't wait for the next chapter of ttroywh. i saw you're taking prompts and i was wondering if you could write one i saw in @rickibowen saying that riley and maya go to the bachelor and riley's supposed to fall in love with lucas but falls in love w/ farkle who is the camera man/editor of the show and she always tries to make him laugh by making faces during one on one interviews and so, while lucas and maya fall in love w/ each other

hope you don’t mind me cutting it short! i don’t know much about the bachelor and would’ve liked to expand more but the internet is not good at gleaning info on the process 😅 so here’s my take on as much of that au as i could!

Farkle took the dumb job by chance.

Well, he did apply for it, but he never thought he’d actually get the job. In all honesty, he figured his small degree in video production wouldn’t end up fruitful, that it was only really a backburner type of deal. He still did believe that—he was going to pursue something in science, that he was adamant of. He just needed . . . a break from it (“Even geniuses need to take care of their mental health,” his mother had told him.) So he pursued videography, something that had become a sort of hobby to him, and when the summer arrived and he needed cash, he figured he’d apply for this job just for kicks.

Farkle never believed he’d end himself up on the set of The Bachelor, not in a million years.

It was sort of surreal, the whole atmosphere that followed such an illustrious television show. Farkle never bought into the appeal of the show, especially since it seemed silly to drag all these girls along just for some pretty boy to tell them they weren’t “the one”. It just seemed cruel, but then again, who was he to judge? He was earning money off of taping their dreams getting crushed, after all.

The first day on set was a barrage of sensory overload—so many voices, faces he needed to commit to memory, an itinerary of equipment he’d be handling . . . there was just so much. He was halfway tempted to run when he started becoming overwhelmed, but he remembered himself, breathing in and out until he’d maintained a sense of calm.

Farkle could do it. He would do it. There was no way he was backing out now.

The preparation for the show was massive, but then the first day of filming arrived right under his nose. Profiles he’d studied of both the bachelor and the ladies he would be choosing from were going to quickly turn to reality, no longer just faces on a page. He knew he wouldn’t be making friends or anything of that ilk, but he did want to at least talk to people, especially since he’d be the one on the other side of the camera for most of the shooting.

Farkle was going to be the main guy they all report to when it’s time to film their confessions, maybe secrets that would be aired on television but no one else on set would know until later. No one but him, which he was well aware was a heavy burden to carry. But then again, it was reality television—who said anything anyone reveal was actually real? The contestants weren’t getting paid for anything, so truth was muddied at best.

But somehow, despite all of this mess being, well, a mess, Farkle could still say he was excited at the prospect of taking part of something big. This was his shot at obtaining a glimpse a slice of a life he’d never experienced before, and he couldn’t wait to see how it all turned out.

“I can’t believe you talked me into this dumb mess. This is your fault,” Maya groaned from beside Riley as the other girls with them in the limo talked animatedly.

“My fault? How was I supposed to know they’d pick both of us for this show? Besides, you’re the one who submitted your application while we were drunk! You could’ve backed out at anytime and you know it, Hart,” Riley said accusingly. “Besides, we’ll have fun! You need some in your life.”

“I feel like I’m being pimped out by a bunch of white guys to another white guy. I hate this,” Maya slumped down further in her seat. “And they took my phone, too! How am I supposed to entertain myself?”

“Don’t you draw? Just do that. I know you brought your sketchbook,” Riley suggested. Maya shook her head.

“Nope. Not going to happen. I am not advertising my art for the world to see. One of those dumb cameramen are going to sneak up on me and do it without my permission, I just know it.”

“Suit yourself,” Riley shrugged, turning her attention to the rest of the girls in the car. She knew there was a camera in the car with them and that the producers would prefer it if she engaged in conversation about the bachelor, but she’d rather just lay low. She’d try and play it up for them later after she’d seen him up close and personal.

But Maya did have a point. Why was she doing this again? It really was a decision she made on a whim, but unlike Maya, her decision was made completely sober.

The Bachelor had been one of her favorite guilty pleasure shows that she watched over the years, but she had never once entertained the idea of actually becoming a contestant. Perhaps it was when her long-term boyfriend broke up with her that spurred her interest, maybe she just needed something new and this was it. Whatever the case, she had been picked along with her best friend, and wherever Riley went, Maya followed.

She couldn’t be too mad, anyhow—the bachelor they had picked was incredibly handsome.

His name was Lucas Friar, born and raised in Texas. Everything about him sounded like a dream come true, but she kept a smidgeon of skepticism about him just in case the show had encouraged a little truth bending for the sake of appeal. Still, she couldn’t deny that his extensive list of positive qualities all seemed a little too good to be true.

He sounded like a true, southern gentleman, the kind that would meet you at the door and talk to your parents before escorting you out on a date. A lionhearted and loyal friend, the testimonies in his profile had mentioned. A guy who is just so down to earth you can’t help but fall for him. Loves animals of all kinds and is working hard to become a veterinarian. His experience of being raised on a farm spawned his interest in animal care.

If Riley could swoon, she would. She still might, after meeting him.

For the rest of the ride, Riley tried her best to pitch in with the “bachelor talk” the other girls were participating in. She wasn’t too terrible at it, but getting Maya to participate was another thing entirely. Despite making it onto the show and agreeing to be there (Riley told her she didn’t need to say yes to being a contestant! At this point, she’s almost certain Maya agreed for her own personal agenda that Riley’s not privy to), she refuses to play along.

After what felt like an eternity of a car ride, they made it to the mansion they’d be staying at for the duration of their stint on the show. They asked Riley to be the first one out of the limo, something that floored Riley.

First limo, first out—they had a good feeling about Riley, was what that meant. She’d watched enough of The Bachelor to know that the first person to meet the bachelor was important; it was his first impression, the real start of the show, and it meant the producers were rooting for her.

So, no pressure.

Her meeting with Lucas passed by her in a flash, but she had a good feeling about it. He found her slight awkwardness endearing and by just interacting with him, she felt as though there was a certain energy between them. Of course, she’d never been the best at reading situations, but something told her that it was right for her to be on The Bachelor.

After meeting him, she waited in the main room as the other girls got to have their own interaction with Lucas, trying to not feel nervous as they all piled in together. They chatted amongst each other, but Riley couldn’t help but notice Maya hadn’t joined her yet.

Must be the producers, she admonished in her mind.

She wasn’t allowed to keep wondering, however, as a distraction was sent her way. One of the producers walked in, announcing that they were going to start filming confessionals and called Riley up to be the first.

“We just need you to talk about Lucas a little, maybe your experience so far,” he explained as he ushered her off to another room. “Be yourself, but also realize this is television, yeah?”

“So be myself but not really myself?” Riley blurted. The producer nodded.

“Bingo, you’ve got it. Now go in there and kill it.”

With a slight push, Riley entered the confession room, the door closing shut behind her. There was a guy already in there scrawling down notes onto a clipboard, his focus undeterred until the door closing alerted him to her presence.

“Oh, sorry about that,” he muttered, setting the clipboard down. He turned toward her with a slight frown tugging at the corners of his mouth, and Riley couldn’t help but feel bad for him. It seemed less like he was trying to be a professional and more like he didn’t want to be there at all.

“Hey, I know this is a weird request, but what’s your name? I’d like to get to know everyone around here, even if I just last a day,” Riley said. The cameraman’s stormy blue eyes lit up in surprise.

“You want to know my name? No one wants to know my name,” he told her. Now it was Riley’s turn to frown.

No one here wanted to know his name? But he was helping make the show. Was the whole production team for The Bachelor really that callous?

“Well, I do. Here, I’ll start—I’m Riley Matthews,” she beamed, sticking her hand out towards him. He hesitated a moment before enveloping her dainty hand with his, the warmth comforting.

“Farkle Minkus. I’ll be your cameraman for a lot of this run, but mostly just the confessional stuff.”

“Glad to have met you, Farkle.”

After breaking the handshake, it still took Farkle a moment to gain his footing and Riley couldn’t blame him.

“Okay, so you’ll sit at that seat right there,” he gestured in front of him to the empty chair, “And you’ll have to give me a moment to set the lighting right on you and then make sure sound is good.”

Riley did as she was told, waiting patiently in her seat as he shuffled about the room. She observed him scrambling about, heart warming at the awkward way he appeared to be moving. It reminded her of herself when she was anxious.

After a few minutes, Farkle was ready, giving her a countdown to begin.

“Just start talking about your first impression of Lucas, okay?” he instructed.

“Okay,” Riley nodded. She watched in silence as he started the countdown audibly, switching to counting with his fingers when they reached three. Then two, followed by one.

Showtime, she said to herself.

At the end of the first night, Maya was the first to get a rose. Riley wasn’t surprised one bit—Maya had a sort of charm about her and people couldn’t help but be drawn to her. It always surprised her when that happened, and that night was no exception to the rule. As someone who was also competing, Riley couldn’t help but feel a touch jealous, but more than anything, she was proud of her friend.

Despite Maya receiving the first rose, though, Riley did get quite a bit of time to spend with Lucas. He was shy and reserved, yet cheerful and inviting, and they got along quite well. If Riley was a spectator, she’d bet good money on herself.

But her time outside of filming scenes was spent hanging around Farkle. He didn’t really believe her when she said she wanted to get to know the people working on the show, so she was determined to prove him wrong, especially since she just kept being picked by Lucas. Each day, she’d greet Farkle when she’d spot him by the refreshments table set up for the crew, she’d ask how he was when he was there to film her confessions, and just do her best to cheer him up since he always looked down.

“You know you’re going to get me fired, right?” he asked her one day after they filmed a scene. “You keep making faces at me and I’m trying so hard to not laugh but I swear, Riley.”

“Is it making you laugh?” she said, curious.

“Yes, oh my god! They’re going to have to cut so much of that out not just for your dumb faces, but me interrupting their audio,” he groaned. Riley smiled.

“Good. Then I won’t stop!”

“Relentless, Riley Matthews, that’s what you are. And a pain in my ass.”

Riley liked getting to film The Bachelor, but as the days passed by, she had a feeling it was less because of her wanting to be on the actual show and vying for Lucas’ attention, and more due to the fact that Farkle was there.

And if halfway through the filming process Lucas ended it because he’d picked Maya (and she picked him too, shockingly), Riley couldn’t find it in her to be sad.

She had found Farkle, after all, so really she was the true winner of the game.

HSMTMTS 1x08 Review

The Tech Rehearsal was a great ep. Let’s dig in!

Great Rini scenes tonight that did some heavy lifting to get them back to a place where they can almost be open with their feelings. Richard Bowen and Nina Salazar- Roberts being the reason the other goes by Nini and Ricky? Reader, that’s the cutest shit I’ve ever seen. The show really brought out the big guns with them knowing each other since Kindergarten. I think most of the casual audience is now shipping Rini, if they hadn’t already, so mission accomplished for the writers

Tim said on instagram that the writers wanted to show that Ricky and Nini had known each other since Kindergarten and it makes sense to use the Troyella rooftop scene and Gabriella’s line about meeting someone in Kindergarten and just becoming friends and use that to tie it all together. But it does somewhat conflict with Kourtney and Nini’s convo in 1x05 that made it sound like Nini only met Ricky in 7th grade. Now it’s true that Kourtney may have just meant it in the sense that 7th grade was when Nini started to have feelings for Ricky but if that’s the case then the writing should have been more clear

As Nini sang in All I Want, EJ is perfect on paper and in Miss Jenn’s notes she wrote that EJ was the perfect Troy on paper; it’s like poetry it rhymes

This is the second ep in a row where a main cast member has been missing. I do wonder if the writers felt that they had done too much work with Rina and keeping Gina off screen was the easiest way to set up a return to Rini. The writers have never been subtle when it comes to ending ships; when it came time to remove EJ as Nini’s love interest they quickly villainized him. I don’t think they want to undo the good work they’ve done redeeming Gina so keeping her off screen is the next best thing

EJ and Carlos had a fun dynamic. EJ trying to emote was so funny as was him stealing Miss Jenn’s notes, it really is his signature move. Matt Cornett does really well playing a dope. I liked that he gave Carlos a confidence boost. Nice to hear Carlos speaking Spanish

Also we now know that Carlos Surname is Carlos Rodriguez. Rodriguez, which means son of Roderick and originated from the Visigoths who conquered Spain, is the 4th most common surname in Spain but it also seems likely that the writers had never decided on Carlos’ last name and just gave him Frankie’s last name which is lazy

EJ Caswell is suffering from Lucas Friar and Jonah Beck syndrome; the handsome, athletic, and kind of ditzy love interest for the main girl who really doesn’t have much else going on when they’re not being shipped with the main girl. Lucas never really got much development but the writers could rely on Farkle to help balance out the show and in S3 the GMW became the Riley and Maya show so it didn’t really matter what Lucas got up to anyways. Andi Mack suffered greatly from never developing Jonah, especially in S3 once he was no longer Andi’s love interest his plot line was a total trainwreck. What made things worse is that the the writers couldn’t build up Cyrus like the GMW writers could build up Farkle since Cyrus’ story was restricted because he was gay. Luckily HSMTMTS has plenty of main characters and is less restricted so it doesn’t drag the show down so much that EJ is just kind of there. I also wonder if the fact that EJ is a senior plays a role in this, sure they can do S2 as the spring musical but what about S3 when EJ would be graduated? If he won’t be on the show long term then there’s no real pressure to develop him or give him that much to do

Big Red appearing behind Miss Jenn was the funniest moment of the ep for me. I also love every time we hear an adult refer to Big Red as Big Red because it’s just so silly

Big Ashlyn (I think that’s their shipname) remains cute. Very smooth of Ashlyn to use Big Red’s compliment to flirt with him

Loved The Role of a Lifetime, Lucas did great, nice little nod to Kate having played Glinda, and loved the ‘’contractually obligated dream sequence’’ line

Interesting motif of ruins tonight. The El Rey theatre is in ruins, on stage the backdrop is a ruined Roman city, and Miss Jenn must face the fact that her acting career and dreams are in ruins before she can start rebuilding her life

Dara can really sing, it’s hard to believe that Kourtney was just supposed to be a one off role. I thought her initial reaction to Nini potentially leaving was realistic but I’m not sure her calling the Dean to come and watch Nini perform was the right move to make it up to Nini

I liked the little Seb and Kourtney interaction. I know there’s been a lot of speculation that they’re setting up a genderfluid Seb story line but I’m deeply skeptical that’s something Disney would allow. And if they were willing to do that then I don’t think they would have allowed Seb to become a main character in S2

I really liked that Gina told Ricky via text that she would have to leave earlier than planned and that Nini told Kourtney and Ricky that she was interested in going to YAC. It was awful in Andi Mack when Buffy left early without telling her friends and then ghosted them for what was supposed to be two months in universe and it was weird that Andi never told any of her friends about SAVA so I’m glad HSMTMTS isn’t making the same mistakes

Looking Ahead:

Just for a Moment sounds great, Joshua and Olivia did such a great job. It’s great that Tim is giving the actors a chance to write their own songs, I hope we see more of it in future seasons. From a video Joshua shared on twitter we can see that they were working on the song during the filming of 1x02. The song must have been selected before 1x08 was written since Nini’s line that it was just a moment is clear set up for the song

The YAC dean is in the audience, does Nini flee and its Ricky who finds her which is why EJ is singing part of breaking free? Or is Ricky gone because he sees his mom in the audience?

How Gina’s move gets undone will be interesting to see. For Andi Mack at least they could say that government cutbacks led the Driscolls to return but if Gina’s mom has to follow natural disasters then it wouldn’t be so easy to just move her back to SLC

The show is flirting with disaster with the YAC plot. If Nini gets in then she will inevitably have to eventually return to East High and in the meantime she’ll be cut off from all the other characters and whatever focus YAC gets will necessarily take away from whatever is going on in East High. There’s a reason Andi Mack only introduced the SAVA plot in the final few eps, there would have been no way to actually pull that off if the series was going to continue

I really do hope we get something with Seblos in the final two eps. 1x05 was great and I’m happy that they were able to do so much textual stuff already but that shouldn’t be an excuse to not touch on it further. I’m sure that with Seb being a main in S2 we’ll get more but we need more now in S1

S2 Rewatch - Maggie’s Take [ 206 ]

now we’re talking folks. now we’re gettin into the juice

Favorite scene

This is an episode that has a lot of like... super strong standout scenes amidst an otherwise quick pace, so it’s tough to decide. The RL scene in the teacher’s lounge and their exchange that establishes their “I don’t have to do anything” motif are both strong contenders, as is the De La Minkus scene in Eric’s office and Farkle’s apology to Riley. However, I’m gonna have to go with Lucas’s imaginary meltdown monologue. I just... the culture of that... how he lists all of the people who are important to him without realizing it (Dasher, Isa, Jack, Riley), the tension and drama of it, the sharpness of the delivery, Lucas literally admitting “desire” for Riley, all of his turbulent emotion in 2A being condensed down into one 90-second explosion of vulnerability... just... so good. I want. To see it.

Favorite performance

Lots of good contenders this episode, and I have a soft spot for the undeniable iconic quality of “Defying Gravity” in any context, but I think the winner has to be “Agnes.” I love that song so much, and it fit so perfectly while highlighting just how low Farkle had gotten yet in a blasé, insidious way. Like the moment where he “shoots” his reflection in a window, but breezes past it before we can even really process it, and then how he leaves the stage blankly and the ghost light clicks off to end the episode -- symbolic, as technically ghost lights are meant to remain on at all times (as their purpose is to provide light when you first enter a dark auditorium).

Favorite character (within context of the episode)

Farkle is the winner for me this episode. He’s so... off his game, a flat comparison to the specter of his former self, and that’s such an interesting interplay in my opinion. Also, I love him in his awful frumpy cardigan not giving a shit anymore. He has a myriad of standout scenes, like his apology to Riley, him attempting to talk to Maya, the scene with Isa in Eric’s office. He delivers succinct lines that really pack a punch, like his offhand final remark to Jack that nothing ever changes, or his explanation as to why Lucas will die if he tries to escape, or his punctuation mark on the philosophy discussion wishing that all of his present company, his not-friends, get into heaven (notably excluding himself). He has my favorite performance in “Agnes,” he’s on the crux of the biggest arc in the first half of the season... and he deserves it, after we made him literally face-plant into the stage and get a bloody nose in the first five minutes of the episode. Sorry, little rich boy. You’ll recover...

Favorite line(s)

“Look, you’re doing exactly what Burgess told you to do, keeping your head low and falling into line, and right now, that’s all you can do. But this too shall pass. You know, one day, we’re going to look back on how stressed we were about all of this stuff, and it’s gonna be hilarious because we’ll realize that none of it really mattered. What mattered was that we got through it, and we got through it together.” –Asher Garcia

“Here’s the read. [ to Maya ] You’re hogging the spotlight. [ to Lucas ] You’re in the way. [ to Zay ] You’re so focused on the dancing, you’re off key. [ to Riley ] You’re a pushover, now quite literally. [ to Isa ] And you picked this song, which I’m surmising has something to do with whatever internal baggage you’ve got going on right now, but it’s whiny and abrasive and yet still too difficult for Lucas. So we’re gonna fail! Buh-bye.” –Farkle Minkus

“Oh, me? I’m getting out of here. This is useless, I hate this energy, and I have places and people I would much rather be with right now. So peace out, drop outs. I’m gone.” –Zay Babineaux

“Oh, sure. Totally. The queen of the techies wants to befriend the free-falling Icarus of the performers, someone she so strongly dislikes she once referred to him as “the spoiled produce of people.” Or, alternatively, described interacting with him like “stepping on a LEGO brick without shoes.”” –Farkle Minkus

An underrated moment

There are a lot of good ones this episode! Lucas climbing around the fake trees to find a place to perch, Riley resting her head on Zay at the end and him patting her head affectionately, Charlie and Zay’s flirty conversation about french fries, Lucas shielding Riley with his whole body from Isadora’s pillow offense, the ridiculous romantic tension between RL in the teacher’s lounge, Maya yoinking Jack’s coffee right out of his hands when he rescues them. But I think my favorite always and forever will be when Riley finds the little love note Dylan left behind for Asher (which we see him then writing a new one in 209 without Asher noticing). It just, as it says in the episode, encapsulates that there’s still love and joy and comfort in the world even when things feel so hard. And it’s also impressive that DA can leave such an impression even when they’re not really in the episode -- a testament to how important they’ll grow over the rest of the season!

First impression vs your reread impression

I was right when writing my 205 reread reax that 206 does move fast! Because of the condensed cast and bottle-episode quality, there’s an incredibly fluid and efficient vibe to the whole thing. I tend to write this episode off in terms of content due to the episodes that follow it that are so heavy and chock full of major moments, but then I reread and I remember why this episode ranked so high for both Esther and I when working on the season. It’s a good episode. It’s engaging, it’s fascinating exploring that group of characters, it has so many small gems of moments... it’s good. I feel confident saying that. Now we’ll see how the sluggers hold up coming around the bend...

AU where Chase Matthews from Zoey 101 is the older brother of Riley Matthews from Girl Meets World

Okay, Chase Matthews obviously looks like he could be related to Cory, he shares the Matthews name, and he has the same clumsiness Riley posses. It matches so perfectly, and would be really cool to see them all be related and interact!

Here is a possible explanation on how everything would work:

Okay, Topanga is obviously a wonderful lawyer, and many firms would love to have her as their clientele

One of these firms offers her a deal where her children could get free education at a private school in PCA, somewhere his children go and the firm pays for

Topanga is hesitant, but after talking it out with Cory she realizes this could be a big deal for her children and give them an excellent education that could help them in life

She has to ask her children first, of course, and consider a few things: Riley is obviously, excited at the prospect, but she can’t go because 1) she isn’t old enough, 2) she’s a girl, and 3) She doesn’t want to leave her new friend Maya behind. Auggie is a toddler, so that leaves only one kid left: Chase

Chase really wants to try going there, because who wouldn’t want to go to a place that seems that awesome!? He doesn’t have any close friends in NY to hold him down, and he could be away from his whiny baby siblings for a part of the year: In his eleven year old brain, that right there is a win-win situation!

So, after much contemplation, Topanga joins the firm, as of what would become her current firm in the show, Chase gets sent to PCA where he doesn’t have to deal with Teacher!Dad or baby siblings and meets his friends there

That’s how I imagine everything correlating to both shows:

When Zoey meets Chase, he obviously has been at PCA for a while and enjoys it there

He sees reflections of Riley in Nicole and Maya in Dana, and can definitely see the braininess of Farkle in Quinn

The show goes on as normal until we get to A Million Rain Drops

The One Who Stayed CH 18

- So, it's finally here - Lucas says while Lily refuses to let Maya go.

- Looks like - Maya said with a nostalgic tone in her voice.

- I don't want you to go Aunt Maya - Lily begs Maya, hiding her face on her neck.

Maya looks at Lucas moved, and while Lucas tries to take Lily from Maya, she takes her face to look at her directly - Hey, I'm gonna come back, this it's not forever, just a year - she explains again.

- You know, I'm in the mood for some Ice cream, want to join me, Lily? - Zay asks and both, Lucas and Maya look at him gratefully.

- I've heard the Ice cream in the Italian gelateria it's really good, you should go with Uncle Zay and get some - Maya softly says to his goddaughter before hugging her and kiss her forehead - You're not gonna notice and I will be back to take you out and eat donuts with Mia - she adds while Lucas gives his card to Zay and slowly mouth to him "get me chocolate".

A few minutes later, Lucas and Maya, finally were left alone.

Lucas takes Maya's backpack and carries it for her. Maya softly takes his free hand and intertwines her fingers with his, making him in the second pull her hand and kiss it.

When they get to her door, they sit waiting for her final call.

- You're gonna be ok? - Maya asks him.

Lucas just smile without looking at her - God, no - he simply answers - But I will be, I have a daughter that needs a father in his 100% - he adds and then press a kiss on her cheek - But don't worry, when I'm alone, I promise I will be brooding, and people might think I'm a Blonde Jon Snow - Lucas jokes.

Maya just gives him a judgmental look - Please don't - she stops him.

Lucas looks at Maya, this time with a more serious look on his face - You know you're asking me to not miss you? - he asks before kissing her hand again - Hell, I would miss you even if we weren't in a relationship - he declares.

Maya just stays silent looking at him.

- What? - he asks - Do I have something on my face? - he adds.

Maya just let a muffled laugh escape her mouth - You make me regret my words when we went to the ski lodge - she replies with a calm smile.

- I can't say the same - Lucas replies and Maya gives him a false offended face - Don't take it the wrong way, but I love my Lily way too much - he adds with a soft smile.

- Yeah, you're right with that - Maya agrees and keeps silent for some minutes - Am I choosing poorly again? - she asks.

Lucas just laughs in her face - You never go wrong if you can quote "The Last Crusade" - Lucas replies offering his hand, which Maya fastly turns into a high five.

Maya laughs a bit after that and went silent again. They both stay there in complete silence, but neither of them wanted to ruin it, it was comfortable, it was kind, and it was expressing everything they had in their hearts.

- This is the final boarding call for passengers booked on flight 32V to Venice, Italy - they both heard from the speakers - Please proceed to gate 3 immediately, the final checks are being completed and the captain will order for the doors of the aircraft to close in approximately five minutes, I repeat, this is the final boarding call for passengers booked on flight 32V to Venice, Italy - the message repeats - Thank you - it finish.

Maya turns and looks at him, waving one more time at him before disappearing inside the gate.

Lucas walks into the food court and saw his daughter eating a cone.

- Even when I pay, that's cheap - Lucas says while he asks for his card back.

Zay just looks at him and gives him his card - It's her third cone - he replies.

Lucas looks at his daughter and presses his lips against her head - Did you enjoy your ice cream? - he asks.

- Kinda - Lily answers - I'm gonna miss Aunt Maya - she adds.

- Me too Lil-Koala, me too - he replies to his daughter.

Lucas gets out of his daughter's room and with a cautious pace, he walks back to his living room, only to see his ex-wife doing the dishes on his kitchen - Come on, you don't have to do that - he says while he walks into his kitchen and takes 2 cups from the upper shelf, only to fill them with coffee.

Riley smiles. She knew exactly what he was doing, move by move - It's nothing - she replies and finishes the dishes, before turning to him and accepts the cup he offers to her.

- I heard that you're helping Eric with his presidential career - Lucas comments, trying not to be left alone with his ex-wife.

- Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's gonna do a great job if he's elected - she replies.

Then silence again.

- I remember this wasn't so hard before - Riley comments.

- Well, it's been time from that - Lucas replies.

- Yeah, I cheated on you, and you fall for my ex-best friend - Riley carefree comments.

Lucas takes a deep breath, surprised by her attitude - Yeah, a lot of things happened - he replies, still not sure how to react to his ex-wife.

Riley gives him a sad smile - Coffee? - she asks.

- Sure - Lucas replies, trying to distend the tension in his kitchen.

Riley gives him a sad smile while she tries to make coffee, knowing that she doesn't know where anything is, and in her mind, she can totally picture Maya knowing exactly where everything is, and not even asking if he wants a coffee, just making one for him.

- Are you feeling good Riley? - Lucas asks.

Riley clears a solitary tear on her left eye and denies - Sorry, I just... - she tries to say but she feels a huge chunk of guilt on her throat.

- This used to be us every day - Lucas continues what she wanted to say - I know - he continues - But we made a deal, this is not for us, is for Lily, this is the least we can do for her - he adds.

- We could try again, that's an option - Riley cuts him while she starts looking for his mugs.

Lucas just stays silent, refusing to say anything.

- Please say something - Riley continues opening another shelf.

- What you expect me to say, Riley? Because that's not gonna happen - he replies a bit tired.

- That doesn't mean I'm gonna stop trying - she says and put 2 cups on the counter in front of Lucas.

- Riley, please no - he begs her.

Riley walks to him and gently caress his face with her both hands - I've made unforgivable mistakes, but even after that, I still believe that you're the love of my life - she softly says.

Lucas closes his eyes to retain some tears, every time Riley tries to get back with him, he did the same, he closed his eyes and find if the war between his love and hate had a definitive winner, he closed his eyes and tries to look for forgiveness. But like usual he isn't able to find any - I'm sorry Riley, but I can't do that - he softly replies.

- I understand - Riley says in a sad tone - See you next Wednesday? - she asks.

- Yes - he replies looking at his ex-wife take her things and walk to the door. As a true gentleman, Lucas joins Riley to his door and softly opened for her.

- Thanks - he replies before watching her leave his home.

Once he knew he was completely alone, he lets himself rest for a second.

He walks to his kitchen and pours some of the coffee she brews for him. He looks at the calendar before taking a sip of the black beverage - Only 9 months - he says while his mind flew to his last memory of Maya.

Lucas takes out his tie and puts it on his backpack before slowly walking into the classroom, only to be cornered by 2 girls.

180 minutes later, most of the students came out with a sheet of paper with the things Lucas expects to review in his classes while he tries his best to walk out of the classroom without being rude and without being harassed.

- Awww come on Professor Friar, you're new, you should let us show you the hidden places of Cornell - Patricia says.

Lucas just laugh - Nice reason, sadly, I'm not new to this building - he says confusing them a bit - Where do you all think I get my license to practice veterinary medicine? - he asks, while his students mouth a silent "Oh".

Once he was in his car, he finally takes a break - Only 8 months - he says before starting his car and drives back to Brooklyn.

Lucas walks into his room and put his cup of coffee left from his laptop. He adjusts his glasses and takes a short sip of his coffee, burning his tongue in the process - Fuck! - he says and then covers his mouth before putting the cup back next to his laptop. He carefully arranges his tie - and then look around - Lily, are you done? Your uncle Zay is gonna murder me if I don't show with these rings soon - he says trying to get his daughter to be ready soon.

- I'm already ready, Aunt Isadora hired someone to get our make-up and hair done - she says to her now, confused, father.

- You're not wearing make-up - he says.

- But Aunt Isadora already gets up the person - she argues.

- Lily, no - he simply says looking at his daughter who looked gorgeous with her blue dress her "Aunt Isadora" get her.

30 minutes later, Lily climbs down from her father and runs towards Isadora.

- Aunt Isadora! - Lily yells in happiness while Isadora gets on her knees to hug Lucas' daughter.

- My favorite girl, besides my Mom, my 2 future daughters, and Maya- she says while Lucas slowly walks closer to them.

- Don't abuse of make-up - Lucas says to Isadora.

Once Lucas left the hall, Isadora looks at Lily - Make-up time? - she asks.

Lucas seats in one of the white chairs of his table looking at one of his best friends dance with his, now, wife, and wasn't able to suppress his mind to replace Zay with him and Vanessa with Riley.

- He only beats me because I'm tiny and I get tired faster - Lily says while she shows her tongue to Farkle.

- I'm offended that you accuse me of something that vile - Farkle defends himself with a fake offended face.

Soon after that, Isadora sits next to Lucas and then looks at her husband - Beloved One, why don't you take this gorgeous little girl to her room while you gave her father a rest from all the dancing he had with her? - she asks in a tone that was a direct order - And you little miss, give a hug to your smartest Aunt and then go directly to bed, ok? - she says, clearly indicating that it was time to bed.

Once they leave, Lucas and Smackle were left in awkward silence.

- I'm gonna get myself a drink, do you want something? - Lucas offers before getting up from his chair.

- I want to know when you break up with Maya - Smackle drops on him.

Lucas freeze on the spot and then looks at her with a relaxed smile - How did you notice? - he asks back.

- Oh, so you actually break up with Maya - Smackle says with a sufficient smile.

- You're actually smarter than Farkle - Lucas says - I'm gonna get myself a bourbon and then, we might talk - he says.

- You quit drinking months ago, you're just gonna run from me - Isadora replies without looking at him.

Lucas just walks away from the table and checks the date on his watch - Only 6 months - he says more to himself than to anyone who can hear him.

Maya gets up to the constant buzz of his phone, she looks at the time and saw it marks 15:36, then she looked at her Snapchat only to see 12 messages from Smackle - You serious? - she asks herself and deletes the notifications - Too hungover to react to anything - she says and goes back to sleep.

A few hours later, once she was fresh and rested, she meets with her models, her make-up artist and her hairdresser to share a few drinks before they.

- Congrats on finishing your third seasonal project - her make-up artist says to her while the rest keep chatting between them.

- Thank you, Emilia - Maya replies and takes orders a beer for her.

- You've got to be kidding me - she says before laughing at his petition - I haven't been in New York in 9 months, what makes you think I have intel on that - she replies.

- Well, I'm not exactly asking for New York - Lucas says.

- Then I have less... GET OFF ME FUCKER! - Maya screamed punching the person who grabs her arms - Holy shit, Lucas - she says looking at the person she just hit.

Lucas gets up from the floor - It's ok, they probably gonna laugh when I tell them the story - he replies cleaning his jeans.

Maya just looks at him and the words escape her mouth - Why are you here Lucas? - she asks.

- You should know - Lucas answers.

They both stood in silence looking at each other for a few minutes until Maya broke the silence - We're gonna make out, right? - she asks.

- Oh, God yes - Lucas replies and kisses her lips.

i did but it was a looooong time ago and it wasnt a fic it was more of an edit thingy lol all i remember from it was that i made riley bellarke’s daughter which i still stand by btw !!!

but now that i’m actually into the show and murven is my #1 ship i have some more thoughts – here me out tia……. lucas as murven’s son.

okay so: murven never really talked about having children, theyre both pretty traumatized from their childhoods so the thought of bringing a child into a post apocalyptic world seemed…illogical? or at least thats what raven points out one night when theyre laying in bed and murphy’s like ‘so, no rugrats?’ and raven simply offers a ‘probably not’ and thats the end of that discussion.

but see…the thing about raven is she’s observant especially of the man she loves – he’s never once pushed her to have children or even discusses having them after their one conversation, but she sees the way he interacts with the kiddos in their ‘community’ and how he took monty’s son under his wing, she sees how surprisingly good he is with children and it plants a little seed in her mind and suddenly the thought of having a family of her with the man she loves doesnt seem so illogical after all

needless to say lucas is conceived shortly after.

lucas “friar” murphy is the perfect mix of his parents: he’s an intelligent, hands on, loyal fighter like his mother and a snarky, sarcastic, survivor like his father… he hates that people base their behavior towards him on how much or little they like his parents (specifically, his dad) his nickname “friar” was given to him as a joke when he was a child due to his unwavering devotion to whatever cause they were fighting at the time – lucas struggles with being his own person, he doesnt want to be seen as a raven or murphy 2.0, he just wants to be himself but he’s afraid that might not be enough for some people…

as for bellarke, in my mind, their daughter riley would look something like this:

riley might have bellamy’s olive complexion and brown hair/eyes but everything else is all clarke – she’s headstrong, determined, dependable, intelligent, fair, selfless, caring, and loyal to a fault just like her mom (she also has her lips, chin, nose, mannerisms and even her beauty mark but thats beside the point lol) HOWEVER where riley differs the most from both of her parents is her naivety and relentless optimism.

riley, unlike her parents, is extremely trusting of everyone she meets and more often than not it’s the reason behind all of her arguments with her parents and older sister madi – they just want her to be safe and riley just wants to prove to them that good people do exist despite you just have to give them a chance to prove that they can be good – clarke and bellamy are like ‘lol no’

a new big bad something or another shows up posing a threat to them because of course it does this is the 100 after all and lucas is very much “must kill them before they kill us” and riley is very much “lets talk it out” and its the whole “wolves eat sheep” tlk from wot3 in gmw

lucas basically is like ??????? where are your survival skills????????????? how are you still alive rn???

and rileys just like ???????? youre a misunderstood soul who needs a friend to see you for who you really are

and lucas is like !!!! accurate af but i’ll never ever admit that also how dare you

basically lucas is absolutely in love with her lmao joking but not really

their dynamic is a little reminiscent of s1 bellarke where theyre forced to work together for the greater good but its also reminiscent of murven where murphy is clearly enamored by raven but wouldnt dare speak it aloud, lucas is a pining from afar kinda guy just like his dad, he feels like he isnt worthy of riley so he does his best to keep his distance but of course it fails because riley sees right through him and its the first time he feels seen and its just

ugh i love them

also how cute, bellarke and murven being eventual in laws hahahaha

yay ok!!! good choices, i stan these three so much they’re all iconic.

so for those who don’t know these are three of isa’s foster siblings who i made up for the gmw au aaa i’m not sure how much i’ll ramble so i’ll put a read more haha

blue nguyen is played by ian alexander and is the oldest of the foster siblings. as such, he’s often given the role of babysitter, advice giver, and cool older brother. he’s very happy to take these on, but also, he’s a seventeen year old, he wants his privacy sometimes. he loves music and listening to different genres and experimental artists, and is probably the sort of person to be a bass player in a garage band with his mates. blue ended up in the foster system at the age of fourteen. he came out to his parents as transgender when he was thirteen, and they kicked him out. he lived on the streets for around a year, before being put into the system. he moved through a couple of homes before landing at the van hercshing’s at sixteen. he can’t wait to get his own place as soon as he turns eighteen, but living with all his younger foster siblings isn’t too bad, he supposes with a smile on his face whilst watching them all. he’s a really good guy and is the sort of person you could stay up all night talking to about the meaning of the universe, but also what your fav pizza toppings are.

beatrix torres is played by paris berelc, and is basically like... a female version of lucas in this au (as in the lucas in aaa, not gmw). she’s tough, looks scary, gets very angry when the people she loves are hurt, but also deep down is an emotionally stunted softy who needs wrapping in a blanket and protecting. they’re both adorable kittens holding knives and hissing basically. so beatrix is sixteen and has a younger half brother, jericho, who she would both kill and die for. she’s been in foster care since she was little as her mum can’t look after her due to money and mental health reasons, and had to look after and fight for herself. but then when her mum had another kid, jericho, who was also put into foster care for the same reasons as beatrix, suddenly she didn’t have to fend for just herself, there was him too. she basically raised him, and sees her foster home and simply the place they’re living. she doesn’t get attached to anyone and barely interacts with anyone since she’s working so many part jobs in order to save up for jericho’s education (he’s basically a genius) and so that as soon as she’s 18 she’ll have enough money to get her and jericho a place for just them. jericho is the centre of her universe. the only people she respects and will give the time of day to in the foster home are blue and isa, blue bc she can go and vent to him when it all gets too much for her (she puts the weight on the world on her shoulders, and that’s a lot for a sixteen year old), and isa bc she and jericho get on really well as the resident geniuses and isa helps him with his homework (if he needs it) and have very intellectual discussions, which jericho loves and doesn’t get to have with anyone else.

tessa chan is played by peyton lee and is what you picture when you hear the words “thirteen year old fangirl”. she loves all things celebrity, especially if those celebrities are ariana grande, taylor swift, and whatever the latest boyband is, bts i guess. she’s unapologetically herself, which i love, but definitely gets on isa’s nerves. tessa is loud, sings out of tune, dances around the house by jumping on and off furniture, blasts her teeny bopper music, and seems to leave a trail of glitter and sequins behind her wherever she goes. she’s one of three foster kids to also have a crush on the mysterious mr lucas james friar (the others are beatrix and julian), and you best believe she does not hide that crush when lucas is over. she blushes, giggles at all his jokes, and invites him to whatever middle school dance is happening that month (all of which he politely declines). tessa gets into very passionate debates over things, mainly when someone says her favourite artists/songs are bad, which isa does... a lot. to be fair to isa, tessa does play the same songs over and over and over and over again. they get pretty hard not to hate after a while.

Girl Meets Lucas

An idea I’ve had floating around in my head from time. Hope y’all enjoy.

“Mr. Friar, please, take a seat.” Mr. Matthews instructed as Lucas entered the classroom. Sitting down in one of the seats at the front of the class, Lucas dropped his book bag next to the desk while patiently looking at Mr. Matthews.

Taking a deep breath, Mr. Matthews looked at Lucas with a sympathetic smile, which only worried him more.

“Uh... Mr. Matthews, am I in trouble?” Lucas nervously asked.

Laughing softly, Mr. Matthews just shook his head. “No Mr. Friar, not necessarily. There are some things that we need to discuss, and I’m going to need your full attention. This lesson will be a little different than usual. Understood?”

“Understood.”

“Good.” Mr. Matthews smiled back.

“As your teacher, I’ve had the privilege of watching you all grow and develop into the wonderful teenagers you are now. However, somewhere along the way, it seems you guys forgot who you were.”

“I don’t understand, sir.” Lucas responded in a confused manner.

“Let me explain. Ever since we went to the Mt. Sun Lodge, you guys have been acting totally different. I even told Riley that the ski lodge was almost the end of my wife and I, and I knew that something would happen to her there.”

Smiling sadly, Lucas had remembered everything that had happened at the Ski Lodge, and the events that had transpired after. The resolution of the “triangle”. Maya pushing Lucas towards Riley and herself away from him (He’s slow, not an idiot). Riley and Lucas dating for about 6 months before realizing that they weren’t meant to be. Farkle and Smackle breaking up slowly after. And their group...

“Lucas!” Cory gently called, seeing as he was deep in thought.

“Sorry sir. You just reminded me of a few things...” Lucas pondered.

“Good. Because I’m not even close to being done yet. So, as I was saying, since then, I’ve noticed that you guys haven’t really been yourselves. You all still interact with one another. Maybe out of obligation, or because that’s what you feel you should do, but the enjoyment and passion that comes with deep and meaningful relationships with friends... and lovers... isn’t there.”

I wonder why he said lovers... Does he know? Lucas thought to himself. Almost as if he was a mind-reader, Mr. Matthews locked eyes with Lucas and paused for a moment too long, almost as if he was examining his every thought.

To say Lucas felt tiny under Mr. Matthews’ gaze was an understatement. Physically speaking, Lucas wasn’t afraid of Mr. Matthews, but he knew that his teacher always paid more attention than they gave him credit for.

“Anyways, Mr. Friar, everything that I’m about to say will stay between us, deal?”

“Deal, Mr. Matthews.”

“Mr. Friar, if there’s one thing about you that I’ve always been happy about, it’s the way you stuck up for your friends. However, if there’s one thing that I wish you would do more of, it would be speak your mind. I still remember how the kids voted you ‘Most Likely To Be Okay With Whatever Happens’ and it concerns me today just as much as it concerned me back then.”

Lucas thought back to that time, when his friends were so concerned with what other people had thought about them that he had to remind them who they were... However, somewhere in the mix, he forgot to remind himself that it was okay to be who he was, and everything that came with it.

“Nevertheless, Mr. Friar, looking at all of you now, it’s clear that there are still some unresolved issues. Such as... your unresolved feelings for a certain blonde student of mine.”

If he thought his words before were getting a reaction out of Lucas, the utter shock, amusement, and shame that had crossed Lucas’ face in all of three seconds had been enough to keep Mr. Matthews amused for quite some time.

Almost a small victory in itself.

If there was one thing that Lucas never fully understood, it was his relationship with Maya. They started out making fun of each other... ruthlessly. Maya always said that it bugged her that she could never get to him, and Lucas enjoyed the teasing.

But secretly, he enjoyed being around her. He liked how much she cared for her friends, how she fully understood that there was more to him than met the eye - and that didn’t stop her from being his friend.

Maya was... different. And he realized that when she was about to lose her art class, on New Years, when the girls went Upstate, and when him and Riley had broken up. But, unfortunately for him, he never got a chance to tell Maya how he felt. And now, he’s not sure if it would even make a difference... She’s probably over him and she might think that she’s not special.

But, she is. To him, at least.

“Mr. Friar, may I continue?”

“Uh... I’m not sure if I-I mean... how did you know?” Lucas sputtered, genuinely confused about Mr. Matthews’ seemingly psychic intuition.

“Lucas. When you came to us after you had sat in the Bay Window for a few hours and told us who you chose... I knew that your decision was correct. My brother, who may be a bit of an oddball, had some very important insights when we thought that we were going to London... And they just weren’t for Mrs. Matthews. Listen to your heart. Find your quiet place... Sound familiar?”

Immediately, Lucas was thrusted back to the day he made his decision... the first time. He had been sitting on the Bay Window for some time, thinking, deliberating, pondering all the ways that he liked Maya and Riley, but when it came down to it, he knew that he liked both of them equally, but not in the same way.

Lucas and Riley always seemed to function better when they were just friends. He cared about Riley just as much as anyone in the friend group, but when it came down to it, Lucas knew that his heart wasn’t with her.

It was with Maya.

It always was. And he had chosen Maya, and it seemed like the right decision, which he let the adults know about, but when she came back from Upstate with Riley... she was different. She didn’t want to hear who he had chose, and if he’s being honest with himself, that broke him a little bit - but he wanted her to be happy, so he let her go and ‘find herself’ even though he didn’t think she was lost - and now here he is, just as confused as he was before.

Shaking his head, Mr. Matthews pauses for a second, really letting Lucas take everything in before continuing his lesson.

“Lucas. I’ve given you a lot to think about, I know. But, you need to understand that your feelings are valid. Farkle had told all of you that if you aren’t honest with each other, everyone gets hurt. You may not be the ‘main player’ in this story, but you better believe that you are important.

Don’t lie to yourself or your friends any longer. You guys are strong, but you’ll be stronger if you start to truly trust one another. Lucas, you’ve been running away from who you are and what you want for too long. Own your feelings. Express your truth. Trust that the people who care about you, will still be there, even if they may not want to hear what you have to say.”

Finally understanding what Mr. Matthews was trying to tell him, Lucas thanks him for his time before heading to the art room to see a certain blonde and deal with everything that has been running through his mind for the past few months.

As he approaches the art room, Lucas starts to feel nervous. Palms sweating. Heart racing. But nonetheless, he keeps on putting one foot in front of another, managing to make it towards the door.

Opening the door gently, he sees Maya walking towards him as she’s about to leave.

“Maya.”

“Lucas! You surprised me. What’s up?”

“We need to talk. Let’s walk.”

“Okay.”
