Something that amuses me between knitters and crocheters is this... almost humble nature each craft has about the other. I couldn't imagine how one would knit, and I know some of the basics - and yet, I have met so many knitters who say crochet is impossible, and yet I find it to be so simple. There's just something charming about when one recognizes just how much skill, effort, patience, and care go into a craft, and to be humbled by just how incredible human ingenuity and creativity are

@animeomegas This post crossed my dash and I immediately thought of you with cockblock sasuke headcanons haha. Itachi might be exasperated at worst and desperately horny at best during that time, thinking he understands and Sasuke will too when he's older. But I love the idea of Itachi who is sorely mistaken, has pups by the time Sasuke is courting, and is just like this. Suddenly extremely concerned for Sasuke's modesty, "are they making you wear that?" when Sasuke wears something revealing, tries to be nice because he knows Sasuke wouldn't accept someone he's not already serious about, but Itachi's eye is sort of twitching and his alpha has their second child in their arms and are staring at him like "are you okay?" when they have a second alone at a family dinner. He realizes Sasuke might be having extramarital sex and accidentally squeezes a chicken too hard when he's carrying it around in the garden and gets screamed at by a hen - not like Itachi didn't also, but Itachi was already practically married by then! and is his stupid cute little brother being safe? is it possible to be sneaky about taking him to the doctor to get checked out?

Itachi might be a little insufferable during Sasuke's teenage emo/goth rebellion too. Like he learns how to make clothes specifically because he knows Sasuke will wear anything Itachi gets him and they're all cute bulky sweaters or comfortable traditional robes. Sasuke mostly wears them around his house or when he's visiting Itachi, but it lets Itachi delude himself into some semblance of imagining Sasuke dresses like that most of the time instead of being bare chest out in the streets.

Ooh! and maybe part of Sasuke's courting story is running into his future alpha on the way back to his family's home from Itachi's house and he gets flustered and embarrassed at how obviously adorable they find him in sweater paws instead of his current off-both-shoulders, no juban, open-down-to-the-navel uniform.

yayy post-canon loop designs DONE!!! first one is after they've re-joined the party but are still adjusting, and the second is later when they're more settled and confident.

i knew i wanted to give them a style that's loose and comfortable, but unique and fun; something that can fill a similar niche to siffrin's canon outfit in both style and fit, while remaining totally aesthetically distinct. so i went in a mori kei direction!

immediately post-canon, loop sticks to dark and black clothing, avoiding siffrin's signature white-on-black. they try both long loose dresses and tighter leggings/turtlenecks, trying to figure out what feels the least weird to wear on their pure-craft-energy body, and end up layering them both. snug and enveloping! they refuse to wear a cloak, but end up just draping their favorite black blanket over their shoulders instead. it's a nice rich lightless, and soft, but still thick enough to block the shine of their head. good for staying cozy or hiding.

after they join up with the party, loop eventually decides fuck it, i can't just define myself in opposition to siffrin, why does he get dibs on our favorite colors. so they start adding white back into their wardrobe! after odile helps them figure out how to craft their body to feel a little more solid, they don't feel like they need to stay so multi-layer covered up anymore, but at this point it's habit. they're still enjoying lightweight fabrics, and getting into fun textures. they don't like the way full pockets affect the drape, so they use a couple bags to store their magpie'd items instead.

once the bodycrafting is more-or-less-done they feel a lot more comfortable in their body, and start to even kinda enjoy how striking their star skin looks among other shades! they still tend to layer, but they no longer need all the layers, and they'll leave the blanket at home in favor of lighter-weight shawls or scarfs that they can still hide their face in. they wear more black and white now, but not in a super high-contrast way; they wear more midshades than siffrin, and less patterns than isabeau. it's all about the variety, lightless and darkless and everything between, draped fabric and lace and ruffles and accessories! their favorite necklace is made out of their five favorite rocks (one to represent each party member, they're finally willing to admit aloud), and they've switched to one nice big bag with plenty of pockets for their various things.

siffrin stuck with the same old outfit for a long time. but just like how having their body forcibly changed made them desperate to change it themself, loop's more experimental and particular about their fashions now as well. they're figuring out who they are, and by the stars they're gonna go full self-expression about it!

OK, so I've been knitting since 2010, and I just learned 2 things.

[1] Magic loop was invented around 2002

[2] Circular needles were invented in the 1910s

That means that, if you were knitting as recently as just over 100 years ago, you either were knitting with straight needles or with double points

I fucking hate straight needles, and I fucking despise double points [personally, I know not everyone does]

I like to imagine knitting as this craft that goes back hundreds of years and connects me to history and all that. And in some ways it is

But then I find out that I've been ALIVE longer than the magic loop method? If my grandmother had been able to teach me to knit [she died around the time I was born but was apparently a very experienced knitter], she wouldn't have even known what magic loop was???????

I also wonder if I would have even liked knitting at all If I was stuck with straight needles and double points

Idk my mind is blown over this and I guess I just need to remember that my knitting is a modern craft that is only in some ways related to historical knitting

Attended another whiteboard hosted by @pillowspace and did some Celestial Sundown AU doodles and a lil Halloween-dressed sea slug! (I wonder if Sunna would wear a scarf if Meno made one as a gift.)

So about that Meno time loop AU idea-

Totally forgot to bring any hats/gloves with me to ONTARIO, so one of the first things I did was walk to Michael's (!!) and buy some yarn for mitts. The knitted ones turned out a little huge because I can't navigate standardised yarn sizes (what is a 3??) but they're cute and cosy all the same!

Yarn: Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn in 'Hot Sunshine Speckle" - I LOVE this sunny colour with its flecks and spots.

The extra brown on the crochet mitts was stolen from my lovely friend's stash because I ran out

Pattern:

Knitted mitts (right) are 'Eureka Valley Mitts' by Amy Klint on ravelry.

The crocheted ones (left) are the same simple granny square mitts I've made a few times before - two granny squares per mitt, with some double crochets at the top, bottom, and thumb. So easy and cute :D

I finished the reversible double-knitted mittens! The symbol on them is from Skyrim. It's the fiery hand of destruction, symbol for the destruction school of magic! I've taken to calling these "the mittens of resist frost".

Pattern was improvised on the go. It was easy because I made these with magic loop, ie. two at the same time on one long circular needle. (Lots of untangling on the go was also required... I also had both ends of one ball of yarn going into each mitten.)
