Beneficiary, pt. 3

The other man chuckled nervously, yet a wrinkle settled between his eyebrows, and his gaze dropped to his steepled fingers. "Yes, well... there may have been some miscommunication," mumbled Mr. Simons.

"Mr. Simons, where is your wife?" Ellison asked.

"O-out shopping. I'm not sure what time she'll be back."

"Right, and, if I speak to your neighbors, they can tell me they saw her leave?"

"I'm... I'm not sure. She was gone by the time I woke up this morning; I'm a late sleeper..."

The agent inhaled deeply. "Mr. Simons—"

"You know, why don't we call her?" the older man suddenly suggested, his voice bright. He sprang to his feet. "I believe she has her cellphone on her. Let me grab her number, and you can call her."

Ellison hesitated. "You don't have your wife's phone number memorized?"

"I'm horrible when it comes to numbers. Faces, places, '60s music lyrics, I'm great at; but, numbers have always been Lila's thing."

The man disappeared down the hall, and Ellison heard a door open and shut a moment later. He allowed himself a sigh and eyed his cookie longingly. He'd been in the career long enough to know anxiety, anger, and food didn’t mix.

Mr. Simons soon reappeared with his cell phone. "Here, do you need me to read it out?" he asked, showing Ellison the number displayed. The agent shook his head, slipped his own phone from his pocket, and punched in the number. The line rang awhile before it clicked and the voicemail service picked up. Ellison's eyes flicked to Mr. Simons; but, the older man urged him to try again, saying, "Who answers an unknown number immediately?"

This is brilliant. If it isn’t every author’s dream to have their characters played so lovingly, so beautifully, it really should be. I know it’s mine. If they don’t cast Kelsey as Lila, I personally will be so sad. In fact, I think the studios should just hand their production over to these folks, who clearly know what the heck they’re doing. 

Also, FINALLY someone who understands that LILA BARD IS THE MAIN CHARACTER!

Y'all there's this book series that's being made into a movie by Sony. I love this book series, it's called A Darker Shade of Magic- very dark, pretty gay, absolutely recommend.

Anyway, this this actor (Kelsey Ellison who's absolute perfect for the role of Lila, a character who has a glass eye and is one of the main characters. Kelsey also has a glass eye and has been prevented from auditioning in the past for roles because of this.

Please spread the hashtag #KelseyForLila to make sure Sony lets her audition for the movie!!!

Being Lila Bard for our upcoming Darker Shade of Magic production has been a dream! 

Somebody with a disability playing someone with the same disability, can you believe it! If only Hollywood could listen… 

(We both have glass eyes in our right eye, but myself and Lila don’t let it stop us from doing anything!)

Meet Melody Ellison!

Melody Elizabeth Ellison was born on January 1st. Her year is 1963 and she is incidentally modern. She lives in Detroit, Michigan, with her older sister Lila, her older brother Dwayne, her oldest sister Yvonne, and her parents Frances and Will. She likes singing, helping her grandfather at his floristry shop, and sleepovers with her friends. When she grows up, Melody wants to form and be the lead singer of her very own Motown-inspired band, the Amethysts.

Melody Ellison:

Melody’s series takes place in the early 1960s. It addresses the Civil Rights movement, as well as pop culture of the time, like Motown music. Melody is another character who has a large cast around her, so lots of sims!

Melody’s family:

Meet Lila Bard played by Kelsey Ellison. Kelsey is a demisexual bisexual queer survivor of retina blastoma- a form of cancer that resulted in the loss of her right eye. In the book series A Darker Shade of Magic- Lila Bard is a genderqueer thief with a glass eye in the same eye. There are three characters who have one eye in the series but Lila is the only one who truly has a disabled experience- although Lila would argue she’s more equipped than any of them.

She also looks spookily like the character! AND big plus- the author VE Schwab is following both of our pages.

If anyone gets cast as Lila is should be Kelsey. We have the opportunity to not appropriate a disabled queer role. To give it to someone who actually embodies these experiences and is a fabulous actor. What do You think?
