I donât think there ARENâT things to criticize about how bsd handles its themes of abuse but the way it humanizes its abusive characters and depicts them as people whoâve had their worldviews so thoroughly damaged as to habitually hurt others is something I do appreciate. without making their victims forgive them or be forced to reconcile with themâŠ
#big big issue I have with the anime is that they like#absolutely gutted the chapter where atsushiâs abusive orphanage headmaster dies#like. taking away the scene where we find out his background and#what he went through to become someone like that#the whole âyour suffering made you strongerâ is kind of :/#but Iâm glad there was at least âyou never ever have to forgive someone who hurt you like thatâ#of course this was all coming from dazai who abused akutagawa for pretty much the same reasonsâŠ#but I think it can feel kind of vague whether the strength out of suffering is dazaiâs worldview or also the authorâs to an extent#that being said I also donât think the audience needs to be spoon fed the idea that abusing people is bad

Imagine helping old man logan with his claws after they get stuck like in the movie. Kissing the space between his knuckles đ this is all I can think about after rewatching logan recently
one more kiss, dear | old man logan
an: oh god that scene đ old man logan let me give you a hug <3 tried to find a gif with that scene but i couldnât so hereâs this:
mutant!reader (someone said we need more aging reader fics and I AGREE so thatâs what this is)
You were folding Loganâs clothes when he stumbled in with his claws sticking out, weâll sort of. You could see some blood on his white shirt. It hurt to see him like that. He didnât speak to you at all and you didnât push him to. Maybe he just wanted peace and quiet . .
He sat on the old bed, watching you as you finished folding his last shirt, thatâs when you finally took a look at his hand.
âNo,â Logan stopped you from grabbing his hand. Your ability to regenerate was failing like his, he certainly didnât want you to get hurt. âIâll do it.â
You werenât going to take no as an answer. Ignoring Logan, you kneeled in front of him and took his hand in yours. You mentally prepared yourself for the pain. Without hesitation, you wrapped your hand around the claw that was stuck and pulled. Blood started pouring down the palm of your hand, but you didnât care. The pain in your body seemed to fade into the background as you focused on the claw.
You could hear groaning coming from Logan, which made your heart ache more. âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry. . .â You whisper to him as the claw moved forward.
After what seemed like forever, you finally got the claw to its place. You stumble back, your body filled with exhaustion and pain, but all you could think about was how Logan felt. You looked up at the old man, the relief and love you saw in his gaze were both heart-wrenching and comforting.
It took a couple a minutes, but the claws eventually disappeared back into his hand. Logan winced as they went back in.
After wrapping your hand in some bandages, you took Loganâs hand again. The bloody knuckles, the wounds, the suffering . . . You didnât want this life for him.
âI hurt you.â Was all Logan could say as he saw the bandage on your hand.
You ignored the comment, instead you wiped away some of the blood form his knuckles with a rag he had on the table beside the bed. After cleaning up the blood, you let him know you were okay by placing kisses where the claws had just come out.
âItâs okay,â you whisper to him, almost sounding like you were about to cry. âItâs okay.â Even as your own strength ebbed away, you knew your greatest comfort was simply being there for him.
âWeâre going to be okay.â You placed one last kiss on his knuckle.

{ â breaking the ice - p.sh }
pairing: closed off! sunghoon x f. reader
contents: somewhat reserved sunghoon (at first), lowk down bad sunghoon, jake is an extra in this, kind of typical guy saves girl party scene, smut at the end, dry humping, making out, a little fluff, mostly just sappy romance, maybe slight angst if you squint
based off this request here
a.n: tysm anon for the request!! i hope i did it justice. i focused a lot on the plot and dialogue in this one, w.c. 2.6k
MINORS DNI
sunghoon had always been the silent anchor of his friend group, the one who seemed to glide through life with an effortless coldness that both intrigued and confused those around him. He rarely piped up, preferring to observe from the background, his thoughts hidden behind a mask of nonchalance. it wasnât that he didn't care; rather, he found solace in the quietude of his own company.
up until you entered the scene, invited by his friend jake for a casual lunch that would unknowingly disrupt his carefully maintained solitude. at first, sunghoon regarded you with mild indifference, his responses curt as you attempted to chip away at his icy exterior. but as the days stretched on, you began to see each other more often, and your laughter filled the spaces he had always left empty. something in him began to shift, tugging at the corners of his guarded heart.
ââ
flash forward to a couple weeks later, jake was throwing an afterparty for some event he held previously that had to do with his band. he held the party at his house, as it was big enough to withstand the amount of people he invited. sunghoon was standing, leaning against the wall of the crowded abode, his drink in his hand as he scanned the room. laughter and music mingled in the air, but his focus was solely on you. you were standing by the kitchen island, chatting animatedly, a bright smile lighting up your face. but it wasnât just your smile that held his attention; it was also the guy next to you.
âcome on, just a little more fun, right?â the guy said, his fingers brushing against your arm in a way that made sunghoonâs blood boil. sunghoon recognized this guy, everyone knew he had a reputation as a smooth talker and troublemaker. the kind of guy who toyed with people like you for fun. âmaybe we should just stay here?â you replied, your tone playful but laced with uncertainty. sunghoonâs heart raced at the sight of you inching away from the kitchen. âaw, don't be like that,â the guy laughed, leaning in closer. âi promise itâll be worth it.â
sunghoon could see you visibly stiffen, clearly uncomfortable with the situation, and he couldnât take it anymore. âhey!â he pushed off the wall, his legs carrying him across the room with determination. âwhatâs going on here?â you turned, surprise flickering in your eyes. how long had he been watching you? âsunghoon! we were justââ âjust what?â he interrupted, trying to keep his voice steady. âyou were about to go... where?â
âjust to the bathroom,â the guy interrupted with a smirk. âno harm done.â âyeah, well, its not a good idea,â sunghoon shot back, stepping between you and the guy. âyou don't need to follow her, man. she can find it on her own.â ârelax, itâs just a quick walk,â the guy said, crossing his arms, his bravado oozing. sunghoon felt the heat rise to his cheeks. ânot with you. not ever,â he spewed. you looked between the two, confusion mixing with concern. âsunghoon, itâs fine. really,â you say, seemingly trying to ease his growing frustration.
âno, its not fine,â he insisted, his voice rising slightly. this is probably the most youâd ever heard him talk. âyou donât know what they say about this guy; heâs bad news y/n.â sunghoon pleads with you. the guy chuckled, but it was an empty sound. âa little jealous, huh? cute." Â âcall it what you want,â sunghoon said, his gaze locked on you. âbut im not letting you walk away with him. not like this.â your expression shifted, realization drawing. âsunghoon, i appreciate it, but i can handle myself.â
âmaybe you can, but i don't trust him.â the words spilled out, raw and desperate. âyou deserve better than some guy who only sees you as a piece of meat.â a silence hung between them, heavy with unspoken words. sunghoon took a breath, his heart racing. âi want to be the one who gets to know you. not him. Â youâre worth more than this.â your gaze softened, and for the first time, sunghoon saw something flicker in your eyesâmaybe understanding, maybe something more.
âokay,â you said softly. âletâs stay here, then.â sunghoon exhaled, relief flooding his body, but he didnât take his eyes off the guy who was still lingering around. âand you can back off.â his gaze stern as he looked him in the eyes. the guy rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of wariness now. âfine, whatever. your loss." Â he spoke childishly as he walked away. sunghoon turned to you, searching your face. âi meant what i said,â he said softly. âi know,â you replied, a hint of a smile creeping in on your face. âthank you for stepping in.â
âi justââ he hesitated, heart pounding with a mix of fear and hope. âi don't want to lose you to guys like him. i want to be the one you trust.â your expression shifted again, this time filled with something deeper. âthen show me. show me youâre the one.â sunghoon nodded, feeling a spark of courage ignite within him. âi will. just give me a chance.â he took your hands in his as he spoke, his gaze softening as he looked you in the eyes.
âi never dubbed you as the jealous type,â you giggled, eyes gleaming up at sunghoon. one of his hands reached behind his neck to scratch nervously. âme neither,â he laughs with you. silence falls upon you two, awkwardness suddenly seeping in. you take a sip of your drink, and look around the room. not quite sure what to do next. sunghoon rocks on the balls of his feet, also unsure of the next move he should make. suddenly, a very tipsy jake stumbles his way over to the two of you. âhey guys! whatâre you up toooo,â his words slur slightly as he speaks, placing himself in between the two of you, an arm thrown around each of your shoulders. you and sunghoon glance at each other nervously, not sure what to say. âuh, i think weâre actually about to head out!â sunghoon says quickly, pursing his lips afterwards. you nod in agreement as jake lets out a loud whine. âalreadyyyyy?!â he pouts. sunghoon laughs at his friend before pulling him off of your shoulders. he looks him in the face and grabs the red solo cup in his hand, and setting it on the counter. âi think you should call it a night too,â he says. jake shakes his head no before stumbling off again.
sunghoon pinches the bridge of his nose with his fingers, clearly disappointed in his friend. âheâll crash eventually,â you snicker. sunghoon laughs with you before reaching out and grabbing your hand in his. âso, about heading out?â he asks, and all you have to do is nod before heâs pulling you through the sea of people and out the front door. âdid you drive?â he asks. you shake your head no. âi took an uber,â you reply. sunghoon nods in satisfaction. he rocks on the balls of his feet again, suddenly becoming hyperaware of the fact that you are alone together right now. âdo you maybe wanna come back to mine?â he asks, his voice shaking with nerves. âiâd very much like that, yes,â you beam up at him. he lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding before beckoning you to follow him to his car. he opens the passenger door for you, letting you sit down before leaning across you to buckle you in. your breath hitches in your throat at the proximity, the scent of his cologne filling your nostrils as he stands back up. ât-thank you,â you say coyly, toying with the hem of your skirt. sunghoon nods a quick no problem before shutting the door and walking around to get in the driver's seat.
the ride to sunghoons apartment is quiet. sunghoon focused on the road in front of him while you watched the night sky out of the window. once pulled up to his place, he unbuckles and gets out of the car, headed over to the passenger side. you unbuckle your seatbelt before he even opens the door, afraid his smell in such close proximity to you will drive you wild. once the door is open, you scurry out of the car, almost tripping in the process, but luckily sunghoon was able to grab your arm, steadying you. âeasy there; don't want you getting hurt,â he says, playfulness in his tone. you curse yourself for immediately blushing at his words. he closes the car door before heading into the main doors of his apartment building. you follow along closely behind him. he stopped in front of the elevator, pressing the up button. now its your turn to sway on the balls of your feet. after what feels like forever, the elevator finally dings, and you both enter. you watch sunghoon as he presses the number three button. the doors close, and here you guys are again, in awkward silence.
you stand next to each other as the elevator moves between floors, and you let your gaze fall upon the boy next to you. you had always found sunghoon attractive, but that attraction has skyrocketed since his whole hero moment at the party. the elevator dinging pulls you out of your trance, head snapping forward. sunghoon let you step out first; your heart was racing. you walked beside him as he guided you to his apartment, his casual confidence making your pulse quicken even more. âso, this is your place?â you ask, glancing around as you approached the door. âyeah, just a simple apartment,â he replied, smiling. he opens the door and gestures for you to enter. âmake yourself at home,â he beams, following in behind you.
you looked around the place in front of you, taking in the modern decor and the faint woodsy scent that lingered in the air. âitâs nice. cozy,â you breathed. sunghoon chuckled, closing the door behind him. âcozy is the goal. would you like something to drink?â he asks. âwater is fine,â you smiled to him, watching as he moved around the kitchen. as he filled two glasses, you couldnât help but admire the way he moved with ease, letting your gaze fall to the way his back muscles tensed as he moved. he turned to face you, leaning against the counter, a playful smile on his lips. âso, where should we start?â he trails off nervously. âwell, what do you wanna know?â you reply. his eyes shine as he looks at you, âanything. everything.â heat rushes to your cheeks as you look at him, his desire to know more about you sending butterflies straight to your tummy.Â
âwell⊠one time i tripped and fell into a fountain during a school trip,â sunghoons laughter echoed through the room. âoh no! did you get wet?â he questioned through his chuckles. âabsolutely drenched, i had to walk around the rest of the day in a soggy shirt.â he leaned closer, his eyes sparkling. âi think thatâs hilarious; i wish i couldâve seen it.â you both laugh for a moment before silence falls upon you again. you look at him, âarenât you gonna tell me one of your embarrassing moments?â a nervous chuckle leaves his lips, a sheepish grin forming on his face. âonce i thought i was being smooth at a party and accidentally spilled my drink all over someone. turns out, it was the birthday girl.â your laughter floods sunghoons ears, his heart swelling at the sight of the smile on your face. âthatâs definitely pretty embarrassing!â you continue to giggle, teasing him slightly.
he begins to move closer as you laugh, the air between you two shifting. âyeah, i wasnât very popular that night,â he says, his voice softening. âbut i guess i can be a little clumsy.â âmaybe itâs just because youâre too busy being charming,â you say to him, meeting his gaze. he took another step towards you, his expression suddenly serious. âi donât want to mess this up, you know?â desperation in his voice. âmess what up?â the sudden topic change is confusing you. âthis,â he says, glancing at the space between you two, then back to your eyes. âus.â the weight of his words hung in the air, and you could feel a thrill run through you. âi donât think you could mess it up.â your chest heaves as you look up at him. anticipation is coursing through your bones. âreally?â he asks, stepping even closer, your breaths mingling. âwhat if i wanted to kiss you right now?â your pulse quickened. you contemplate for a second on what to do, but quickly come up with an answer. âthen you should.â
sunghoon hesitated for a moment, searching your eyes for reassurance. then, without breaking eye contact, he leaned in and pressed his lips against yours. the kiss was tentative at first, a soft exploration that quickly turned heated. you melted into him, your hands finding their way to his hair as his fell to your waist. his tongue swiped along your bottom lip, asking for entry, which you granted. your saliva mixing as you moaned into his mouth. the two of you shuffled around the room as you kissed. finding yourself in front of his couch, he goes to sit down, and you follow, only breaking away for a split second as you straddle his lap before connecting your lips again. his hands are resting on your hips, and you lightly grind down on his lap, earning a groan from him. you bite at his bottom lip, pulling slightly before letting go, breaking the kiss, but only so you could continue to pepper kisses down his jaw and neck.
he moved his neck, giving you more access as you bit and sucked slightly on the skin. small groans left his mouth, his hands beginning to guide your body on his clothed erection. a moan fell past your lips at the sensation, your assault to his neck stopping as you focused on the pleasure youâre feeling between your legs. you wrap your arms around his neck, leaning your forehead against his as he continues to grind you on his lap. small pants are coming from your mouth, as well as groans from his. he drops his head down, taking his turn to trail kisses along the exposed skin of your collarbones and chest. you roll your head back, a moan leaving your lips. one of sunghoons hands travels up to your face, bringing you back to lean against him, fingers caressing your cheek ever so slightly. you lean into his touch, whines leaving your lips as you chase your high. his hand falls back down to your hip, helping you in quickening your pace. the texture of his jeans hitting your clit in just the right spot to send you over the edge, your body trembles as your high washes over you, head thrown back as sunghoon helps you ride it out. his own orgasm followed shortly after.
both of you are a panting mess, and sunghoon canât help but hold you tight against him, hugging you gently. you tighten your arms around him, enjoying the comfort of the boy in front of you. you pull away for a moment to look eachother in the eyes. a smile forms on both of your lips as you chuckle breathlessly. sunghoon is the first to speak. âthat was. wowâ you giggle at his words, fingertips fiddling with the hairs at the base of his neck. âi think we need to do that again sometime, maybe with less clothes,â you joke. sunghoon is smiling from ear to ear, thinking about how lucky he is to have you here right now. âmaybe so. but how about a proper date first?â he says. and you nod eagerly.
âiâd like that.â

post prison!spencer reid x fem!reader
genre: enemies to lovers, smut with a plot
summary: spencer can't help but despise his "replacement", especially during an undercover mission in a nightclub.
MDNI 18+
âthis is insane.â penelope garcia mutters on the other end of the phone call. âthereâs no way jeffery was able to absolutely take himself off the internet.â she huffs, the keyboard clicking in the background. âiâm gonna keep working. iâll be back in a jiffy, i swear!â she says sweetly before hanging up.
the unsub, jeffery hogan had abducted then murdered four young women in los angeles california. the team had been in la for three days now, and jeffery had already killed two more women before they could stop him. all of them were getting antsy and a little angry.
you sigh, leaning back in your chair as the rest of the team begins talking amongst themselves, minus spencer, who had been staring at a map for twenty minutes.
âreid.â you say, catching his attention. he doesnât look up, but you can tell that your voice startled him slightly.
âhmm?â he says, annoyance lacing his tone. you roll your eyes. he had been an absolute dick to you since day one. the whole team had described him as a saint, yet, you couldnât see it. yes, he was attractive, but that didnât distract from how hateful he was towards you. plus, you had been nothing but nice to him when you first met him, doing nothing to get on his bad side.
âdid you make a connection between the locations?â you ask curtly. he huffs. âi donât see you doing anything helpful.â he snaps, finally looking up from his map to glare at you.
âspence,â jj begins, joining the conversation unknowingly. âany connections?â he smiles and turns to face her, like you hadnât just asked the same question.
âthe one common location that overlaps with all the crime scenes and significant places in jefferyâs life is the ânight owlâ, a local night club.â reid says, smirking at you when he finishes his sentence like a teenager. you scoff.
emily gives them a look that says âact professional pleaseâ.
âwe have no idea what he looks like, we only know bits and pieces of his life that garcia could dig up, how are we going to catch him?â matt asks, leaning against a wall with his arms crossed, a coffee in hand.
âi could go undercover,â you begin with a shrug. âmost of the girls he abducted have been around my age and have my same features.â emily nods in agreement.
âone issue.â rossi says. âthe unsub has always abducted women on dates.â you nod. thatâs true.
âi could go with you.â matt says, standing up straight and taking a sip of his coffee. you open your mouth to thank him but emily cuts you off.
âno offense simmons, but what if we sent in reid instead? he closer matches y/nâs age and resembles the victims boyfriends more closely.â
spencer opens his mouth to protest but tara cuts him off with a smile. âgreat idea, you guys should leave in an hour or so, you better start getting ready.â
you watch as reid fights the urge to say something rude, but is quickly whisked away by emily.
jj helps you get ready in another conference room of the precinct, dressing you like the average clubber.
your outfit is a small, tight, red mini dress, with matching heels and accessories. you had to admit, you looked good. you found yourself wondering what they had put reid in and whether he would find you attractive in this tight dress.
âyou look amazing.â a voice breaks you out of your trance as youâre putting in an ear piece. you smile, turning to face emily.
âthank you.â you say softly, using your hands to smooth out your dress. âi think iâm ready.â you add, slightly nervous. emily reassures you that you will do great and asks you to follow her outside.
thatâs where youâre met with spencer reid. he looks unfortunately handsome, hot even, wearing the most casual âspencer outfitâ you have ever seen: corduroy pants, converse, and a white button down. the white button down was sheer linen (very beachy) and allowed you to barely see his chest. you quickly remind yourself that he is in fact a dick, hoping that will somehow make him less attractive.
you watch as his eyes wander your body. emily seems to notice and clears her throat.
âyou guys gotta get going.â she breathes out a smirk on her face.
reid walks over to the side of the car. you smile slightly as he opens the door, your smile fading as he slides in alone slamming the door behind him.
âpetty bitch.â you mutter. your heels angrily clicking against the asphalt as you walk to the other side of the suv, ripping open the door and sliding in with your arms crossed. you slam the door behind yourself, eyes glaring into the side of reidâs face.
âlook,â you begin, your tone angry. âif this is going to work you need to at least try to pretend not to be a fucking asshole.â he scoffs, turning to face you.
âwatch your tone.â he says lowly, his voice sending a shiver down your spine. your arms are still crossed and you watch as spencerâs eyes go from your face to your tits, then back up again.
you remind yourself that indeed, he's just a man. he may be a genius but behind that, heâs simply just a man with needs. you were going to make tonight hell for him.
you smirk, eyes glaring into his. âdo your fucking job and i just might comply, doctor.â
he turns his head away from you, staring out the window, a new type of tension in the air.
âcan you guys hear me?â jj says through you ear pieces. âyeah.â reid says, you can hear how angry he is, just through one word.
the team gives you both a rundown and reminds you both of your parts.
ââŠremember youâre a couple!â garcia reminds you. the team agrees loudly on the line. âyeah,â alvez says. âpretend to like each other for one night.â
âweâll try, alvez.â you reply as the suv pulls up in front of the busy nightclub.
you look over at reid. âopen my damn door and look like you fucking mean it.â you say through gritted teeth. he doesnât respond as he steps out of the car, shutting his door quietly and makes his way over to your side of the car. he opens your door with a fake smile on his face, putting out his hand for you to grab. you get out of the car, leaning in to whisper in his ear.
âgrab my waist.â you demand. he huffs under his breath, reaching his large hand to rest on your waist. he leans in to whisper back. âyou will not dictate this night. i have over ten more years of experience than you, on this team. you do not get to boss me around, y/l/n.â he says through gritted teeth, pulling away from your ear with a fake smile on his face. you donât have time to respond as he says; âletâs go, baby.â
the nickname hits you like a brick, especially the way it comes out of his mouth so effortlessly. in an attempt to control your composure, you smile and lean against him as he rubs his hand lovingly across your waist.
you both enter the night club, the mix of bright lights and darkness temporarily blinds you as you grip onto spencer for support.
âdonât respond, but we see youâve made it inside. go grab a drink from the bar then hit the dance floor.â emily orders. spencer nods, leading you towards the busy bar.
as you approach the bar, the bartender asks what you both want. âiâll have a club soda with lime.â spencer says, turning his head to look down at you. âwhat do you want, baby?â he asks, rubbing circles on your waist softly. you smile back up at him pretending like you donât want to kill him and subtly dig your ass into his crotch. he sucks in a breath.
âiâll have a vodka soda.â you say with a sweet smile on your face. the bartender nods going to make the drinks.
you look back at spencer, his jaw clenched and his breathing heavy. you set your phone down on the bar and âaccidentallyâ knock it off of the counter.
âoops!â you say dryly, bending down to pick it up, your ass now rubbing against his crotch. you subtly feel something twitch in his pants.
ây/n.â he warns you. you nod innocently. âhmm?â you hum. he moves his hand from your waist. you look back at him to silently scold him, but he quickly uses both hands to push you away from his crotch. he slides his hands down your waist, to your ass, then pulls down your dress in one quick motion. a man standing to his left begins complaining loudly about how he can no longer see your "fattie". you almost thank him, then remember that its fucking spencer you're dealing with.
he doesnât say anything and simply hands you your drink, leading you away from the bar and the creepy men, to a nearby table.
you bite your lip to hold back hateful words that dare to spill out. you stand in silence, spencer sipping his drink while you chug yours.
"you look miserable." emily says in your ears. "do something." she adds.
"wanna dance, pretty boy?" you ask him, the nickname falling from your mouth accidentally. you pretend like it was on purpose as spencer looks up from his drink, slightly stuttering over his response.
"y-yeah, yeah." he repeats, regaining his composure. he grabs your hand and leads you towards the crowd of sweaty people dancing, only looking back once to make sure you were still there
spencer scans the crowd as he pulls you into his chest harshly.
"i'm not just some doll you can throw around, reid." you yell over the music, sick of his bullshit. he looks you in the eyes and shrugs.
as the song changes, couples around you begin to make out.
"kiss me, reid." you say, realizing the awkward dancing in a crowd of horny couples would defer the unsub's attention. spencer doesn't seem to hear you. "reid." you repeat, his eyes still scanning the room. "spencer." you say, the first time you've ever said his first name to him. this catches his attention. his gaze finally falls to you, his frame towering over yours as you wrap your arms around his neck.
"i need you to kiss me, spencer."
the usually dick-ish man makes no cocky response. instead, he simply tips his head down capturing your lips in a kiss. the kiss is awkward at first, but quickly turns heated as you press your body against his. his hands, which were loosely on your waist move downward, rubbing circles on your ass and somehow moving you closer to him.
you run your hands through his hair, feeling him moan softly into your mouth. his sweet noises immediately go straight to your now-wet-core. you break the kiss for a second, to catch your breath, your faces still inches apart.
spencer's pupils are blown, his hair is messy, and his lips slightly swollen, tinted red from your lipstick. fuck, you want to devour him.
spencer quickly resumes the kiss, this time you don't have to ask. you easily feel how hard he is already, with his cock pressed against your leg.
you groan softly as you push your tongue into his mouth, eliciting more sweet noises from the handsome man.
"nice job guys, we have a suspect at 3 o'clock." emily says into our ears, reminding us that we aren't alone.
âletâs go somewhere more secluded.â spencer whispers, his breath hot on your cheek. he wants to lure the unsub out. you nod, waiting for him to move. instead his hands are still on your ass, his eyes on you, like heâs taking a mental picture.
âpretty boy.â you say almost inaudibly. âletâs go.â he spins you around so youâre in front now, able to maneuver your way out of the crowd. one of his hands rests on the small of your back protectively as you head towards the back corner of the club, a stark contrast to the way he was treating you less than 10 minutes ago.
âthe hypothetical unsubâs eyes are still on you guys but he hasnât moved, we canât seem to see his face on camera. you need to get him to move closer.â jj announces in your ears.
âsheâs telling us to kiss again.â you whisper. he nods, placing his large hand on your cheek and swiping his thumb across your lips. you wrap your arms around his neck, leaning into kiss him. he picks you up slightly, just enough to allow you to sit on him as he takes a seat on a random couch.
as he moves from kissing your lips to your jaw and neck, you instinctively begin rocking your hips against his, feeling how hard he is under you.
he groans softly against your neck, his kisses becoming sloppier.
ây/n.â his tone desperate, the use of your first name alarming. âif you keep going i might not be able to maintain professionalism.â
you bite your lip excitedly. âdo you want me to stop then, spencer?â his eyes stare into yours, his hands on your hips.
âno.â he breathes out, pulling you closer to him and kissing you again. he moves his hands upwards as his lips move downwards, slowly leaving kisses and rubbing your now-visible nipples through the thin fabric for your dress. you suck in a breath at the new sensation, your head thrown back in ecstasy.
âthe unsub moved into the light, itâs jeffery. sending alvez and rossi in now to apprehend him. you guys can stand down, nice work.â emily says, startling them slightly. you pull away from spencer, your underwear undeniably wet and your cunt begging for attention. you awkwardly remove yourself from his lap, sitting next to him on the sofa, noticing that in fact he was hard, an outline of his dick highlighted in the odd club lighting. he squirms in his seat slightly, obviously trying to readjust.
ây/n,â he says, noticing your eyes on him. you hum in response, your eyes moving from his cock to his face. âbathroom.â he says simply.
he doesnât give you an opportunity to respond, simply getting up and leaving the room. you wait for a few seconds, processing his words and attempting to wrap your head around the fact that an hour ago you hated this man and now you were dying for him to fuck you.
a few minutes pass and you make your way to the bathroom where you donât even knock, you simply walk in. spencer is there waiting. immediately as you enter the bathroom, he locks it, then attached his lips to yours. you moan softly into the kiss, jumping up to wrap your legs around his waist. he, however, seems to as other plans as he sets you down on the sink and lowers himself between your legs.
he leaves soft kisses up your thighs, your legs now thrown over his shoulders. âspencer,â you beg, his lips dangerously close to your cunt. âplease.â
he smiles as you beg, hooking his finger on your underwear and pulling them down your legs roughly. he lowers his head farther in between your legs, licking a slow stripe down your cunt, causing you to squeeze your legs around his head and moan.
hearing your reaction, spencer moans softly against your pussy, the vibrations making you gasp.
unfortunately the club music had been turned off and if anyone were to walk by, they would probably hear you making sounds. you cover your mouth with your hand to make sure you guys donât get caught.
he moves his tongue farther into you, the sound of his mouth on your soaking wet cunt making lewd sounds that fill the small bathroom.
you moan into your hand, bucking your hips against his face.
he pulls his mouth away from you and without skipping a beat he inserts one of his large fingers into you, grinding his crotch against the edge of the sink to get himself off.
you open your mouth to tease him but he interrupts you by adding another finger into your pussy. you canât help but moan loudly, feeling your walls clench around his fingers.
âso good for me.â he says breathlessly, his fingersâ pace rough inside you and his hips fast against the sink counter.
âspencer,â you say in between ragged breaths. âiâm so close!â he smiles at your words, removing his fingers from your pussy with a pop.
you groan softly, hating the feeling of emptiness.
âspencer.â you warn, sitting up to get a good look at him. he has a look in his eye, a smirk on his face.
âwhatâs up?â he says nonchalantly, licking you off his lips and his fingers. you ask yourself how he can be so calm when he was literally just finger fucking you and eating you out. his cock is still dangerously hard, a spot of pre-cum on his cute little pants. you catch yourself imagining how big he is.
âfine.â you huff, seeing how he didnât seem like he wanted you to finish. you insert your own fingers into your swollen cunt, pumping them inside yourself like spencer had been only a minute ago.
you over exaggerate your moans watching as spencer begins to rub himself through his now tight pants.
âiâm not going to beg you, pretty boy, but i need your cock inside of me right now.â he smirks at your words, making his way back over to you, hands moving to your face, kissing you passionately.
âiâm pretty sure that was begging, y/n.â he says as he pulls away from the kiss, beginning to unbutton his pants.
however, loud knocks interrupt him. "spencer?? are you in there??" emily's familiar voice, fills the room.
"uh, yeah! i'll be out in a second!" he says, beginning to re-button his pants, his cock still visibly hard. emily says something inaudible from the other side of the door then walks away. you lean forward on the sink counter, resting your head on spencer's shoulder, his arms wrapping around you.
after a second of peace, you hop of the counter in an attempt to fix your appearance, sliding back on your awkwardly soaked underwear.
"can we please finish this later?" spencer speaks up, catching you off guard. you smile, your brain still processing the fact that an hour ago you wanted to kill this man.
"yes, please."

[feel free to buy me a cup of coffee!]
---------------------------------------
â Shit, shit shit- â You throw things all over the apartment, searching for your keys. The clock on the wall reads 10:55AM, flipping quickly to 10:56 and making you swear again. â Fuck! Oh-â You snatch up your house keys with a victorious cheer and then immediately race for the door, your bag hauled over your shoulder on the way.
You turn the 30-minute bike ride to campus into 20 minutes, but that still gets you to the door of the Linguistics department by 11:15. You slam down on the elevator button repeatedly while you wait, glancing back at the rest of the lobby only when you hear someone call your name. Itâs a student of yours, so you have to smile and wave back politely, even though all you want is to scream â Iâm so fucked! â into the void.Â
The elevator doors open, and you treat the buttons on the inside panel with the same cruelty, choosing to text your frustrations to Bokuto while you wait to arrive on the 5th floor.
[11:16 AM]
You: FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
Kou: OMG SAME
You: ?? whats wrong on your end
Kou: nothing why?
Kou: IS SOMETHING WRONG???
You snort, rolling your eyes.
You: late to my 11am
Kou: OH THE READING GROUP
Kou: which one is that??? Linguisticsomething of something something??
You: you know,,, there was no way to be wrong with that answer kou
Kou: :)))))Â
You: itâs LEM
Kou: LINGUISTICS AND EXPERIMENTAL METHODS
Kou: RIGHT
Kou: oh wait isnt that the one akaashis in?????
You: thats why im fucked
Kou: oh im sure he wont say anything
Kou: SAY HI FOR ME
The elevator opens, so you shove your phone away and race down the hall to the lab room. You skid to a stop in front of the door, taking a calming breath before pushing into the room as quietly as possible. A few people glance up from the round table in the center with small smiles before returning to the presentation on the screen, but you know well enough that youâre not in clear.
â-f itâs true then that case gets valued where base-generated, rather than at the landing site after Movement, we should see that these forms are nominative-marked. However, clearly, we get accusa-âÂ
You take the seat closest to the door, and it creaks.
Akaashi Keijiâs eyes find yours.
You grimace openly at him, and he lifts an eyebrow, his finger still hovering over the example on the TV.
âY/n. Would you like me to start over?â
You struggle not to roll your eyes at him, your face burning with embarrassment. âOf course not. Please, continue.â
âIt might be helpful if I start over-â
âI donât need the background on case valuation in Korean, Akaashi,â you snap. âWe work on the same language.â
You watch his eyes harden. Itâs only you that he looks at like that. He opens his mouth, but your advisor cuts in on your left.
âOkay, you two,â he says. âLetâs try not to kill each other today.â
You lean back in your chair, arms crossed, and meet Akaashiâs eyes evenly. He stares back blankly only a moment before returning to his presentation.
âSo, we can see here that accusative-marked nominals are permitted, despite the prediction that only nominative is grammatical-âÂ
You let out a quiet breath, trying to pay attention to his presentation â because, no doubt, heâd put you on the spot about it soon â while also recovering from the adrenaline rush of getting here. Your phone buzzes in your pocket, and you extract it subtly, glancing at the screen. There are two alerts.
Bank Account Balance (Oct. 10); $562.95
Rent Notification: Rent and Utilities; Payment ($1018.00) Due Nov. 1
Your heart sinks, a lump forming in your throat, and you shove your phone away, returning to Akaashiâs presentation. A coffee cup from the nearby cafe slides into your periphery, and you turn to see your advisor pushing it toward you silently, his own cup in front of him. He doesnât look at you, but he does crack a tired smile.
â Drink, â he whispers. â Youâve had a hard couple days. â
You smile and bring the cup to your lips, ignoring when Akaashi glances at it and then between you and your advisor. Itâs your regular order, and youâre immensely glad that most of your advisor meetings happen at coffee shops. You make it through Akaashiâs presentation with little issue â unsurprisingly for the departmentâs Golden Boy, his work is flawless. You agree with every argument he makes, every flaw he finds in the analyses of previous work.
So when he says â Any questions?â in that polite, soft-spoken way of his, youâre prepared for the very few questions asked to be nothing more than clarification. No one has any comments about his thinking or his analysis, and no one challenges him. Because Akaashi Keiji is always right.Â
But you can also see that these questions donât excite him. He answers each one nicely, nodding along and mumbling â Yes, thatâs right â or humming thoughtfully â as though he needs to think about it at all â and then shaking his head, clicking through his slide deck until he can point to something and correct someoneâs thinking. But he looks a bit disappointed, like heâd been hoping for a bit more of a discussion. He even glances at your advisor hopefully â but your advisor is also his advisor, so why would he have any notes? Heâs already pre-approved all of this.
Well, thatâs what you get for being so smart, you think with a little bit of snark. Your advisor always preaches to the group that peer feedback creates room for improvement, but whatâs Akaashi supposed to do when thereâs no more room? Heâs already the best.
He meets your eyes briefly, and you look away. Youâre not going to give him what he wants.
âOkay, then,â he says after a moment, unplugging his laptop from the TV. âThanks for listening â Y/n?â You pull your laptop from your bag, standing and rounding the table. You take the HDMI cord from him, slipping into the chair heâd occupied. He takes yours, careful not to touch your things. You sigh softly and then smile at the rest of your reading group.
âHey, guys. Thanks for coming.â You gesture to the TV, your slide deck open. âSo, if you were here for my most recent project, you know that I got some interesting results and will be broadening the scope in order to explore them for my dissertation.â
You launch into your presentation, the material so familiar to you that you donât have to think about what to say. Your second major project had wrapped up last year, your name sitting on a journal article set to print at the end of the month. Youâd gotten a number of reviewers asking similar questions, all related to the experimental results of one of your tasks, so you and your advisor had decided that, for the dissertation, you would be increasing the technical difficulty and redoing the experiment with new materials and a more rigorous theoretical analysis.
You present this to the group, outlining your idea and the changes youâd be making to the original project in order to answer the open questions left by your reviewers. By the end of your 20-minute slot, youâve got most of the group nodding along in agreement.
Most of the group.
You do your best not to look at him, but you can still see Akaashi sitting there with his arms folded in his lap, his expression void of everything. His eyes skim your slides, unreactive, and you just know that youâre in for it.
âOkay-â you sigh, clapping your hands on your knees. âThatâs it. Thoughts?â
Your advisor lifts his brows, a smile tugging at his lips, and you know heâs thinking the same thing.
Just the grilling of a lifetime incoming .
Thereâs silence for a while, everyone trying and failing not to look at Akaashi, because they know how this will go. And then his lips part, a soft breath taken.
âCan I⊠ask a few questions?â He starts gentle, the way he always does. He fools everyone into thinking heâs sweet and soft and careful, but you know better. You know that, if you were anyone else, he wouldnât have started like that. He would have complimented their work first, noted the things he thought theyâd done well.
Youâve never heard a compliment from Akaashi Keiji in the five years youâve known him.
âOf course,â You sigh. Some snickers pass through the group.
âHow do you know that this will tell you anything at all?â
He doesnât hold back â youâll give him that.
âSorry?â
âIf your results indicate a misalignment between the production of this ambiguous form and the comprehension of it, why are you using eye-tracking to test only comprehension? Whereâs your production gone?â
You inhale slowly, flicking back through the slides. âLike I said before, there are two possibilities for why this form was over-produced and under-accepted by participants. Either they are operating within their grammar and just attaching an emphatic element to a different word, resulting in a homophone with the ambiguous form Iâm interested in-â You flick through more slides. âOr theyâre operating outside of their grammar, in which case there are discourse factors at play.âÂ
You meet his eyes with a tight smile, trying to remain polite. âRunning an eye-tracking task with comprehension will let me see, in real time and without metalinguistic interference, if they accept this form in situations that should be ungrammatical. If they donât, then these results are due to emphatic attachment and thatâs that. If they do, then..â You shrug. âThereâs more to be done. But my point is that production wouldnât be necessary here. I have what I need.â
The group all shift their eyes from you to him in an instant, waiting for the tennis match to start. Akaashi only meets your gaze for a moment and then nods, and you feel mildly victorious at having won this interaction. But you swallow it down, because heâs opening his mouth again.
âAnd what about case?â
You almost roll your eyes. âWhat about it?â
âWhat analysis are you adopting?â
âIâm only using accusative-marked forms for this experiment,â you say. âThe object of the embedded clause is the position I need. Iâm not adopting competing analyses.â
âBut there are other ways to mark case on these forms â as Iâm sure youâre aware.â His gaze narrows at you when he says it, and you know heâs getting back at you now for your comment earlier. âWhat about those?â
âIâm not interested in them-â
â Right ,â he bites. âI understand that. But what are the case alternations available?â
It takes a special kind of person to draw Akaashi Keijiâs patience short, and youâre happy to be that person every single time. You have to purse your lips not to smile, because thereâs a little piece of you that finds it funny to draw out that twitch in his eyebrow that no one else claims to have ever seen.
âGenitive and nominative, and dative under restricted circumstances.â
He lifts his brows at you. âSo pretty much all of them.â
You nod simply. âBut using pretty much all of them means Iâd have to change the structure of the sentence for each type. Itâs not a simple swap.â
âThen do it.â
âExcuse me?â You lift your eyebrows in disbelief.
He shrugs. âYour results could be due to any of the things youâve talked about. Or they could be due to this form being preferred with different case markers in different situations. You could be getting low acceptability because of the case, rather than what youâre interested in.â Â
You just stare. âThatâs, like, four dissertations, Akaashi.â
His eyes have flattened out again. âThen maybe you should have done it right the first time.â
â Okay ,â your advisor says, clapping his hands. âHourâs up. Letâs thank Keiji and Y/n for their time.â
Your eyes stay locked on Akaashiâs while the room clears out, both knowing that youâre not allowed to go anywhere. You get a couple â good job âs from the people leaving, but you canât bring yourself to break eye contact first. In fact, it only serves to irritate you more â why is it only you that gets those reassuring comments? Why donât people tell Akaashi that heâs doing well? Do they think you need it? Does everyone think you need it more than he does?
âAlright,â your advisor breathes, shutting the door again and turning toward you. âOh-Come on, you two.â
You break first, dipping your head and turning to unplug your laptop from the TV.Â
âThat was good, both of you.â Your advisor cuts a glance at Akaashi as he sits. âA little harsh there, but-â
âSorry,â He mumbles, immediately deferent. But you know heâs not apologizing to you, and that makes you finally roll your eyes.
âOkay, okay,â your advisor laughs, taking his coffee and sipping at it. âLetâs just finish this up so I can get away from all this hostility.â
The meeting ends quickly, the three of you just summarizing thoughts and future steps for each of your projects. Akaashi purses his lips when you speak about your plans, but he doesnât push at you any further.Â
Finally, youâre able to leave, so you gather your things quickly and bolt for the door. Unfortunately, your office is directly across from Akaashiâs, so the walk down the hall is spent with him on your heels.
âItâs not four dissertations, by the way,â he says as soon as your advisorâs out of earshot. âJust redesign your materials to include the case alternations, and youâll get something interesting.â
You roll your eyes and shake your head, not stopping your march down the hall. âIâve already designed the eye-tracking materials, Akaashi. Itâll take me weeks to redo them for case.â
âThen take the weeks ,â he argues, just as youâre both arriving to your respective doors. âDo you want to do it fast, or do you want to do it right?â
You whirl on him, your anger unfiltered now that youâre alone. âWhat would you know? Youâve never done the kind of research I have to do. You donât know anything about psycholinguistics â you donât know what goes into something like this. You just sit in your world of theory, without ever thinking about the practical applications. You might be right about everything all the time, Akaashi, but Iâm the one who has to take those theories and do something with them.âÂ
He stares back emptily while you rant, and then he leans in close, his eyebrows lifting as his voice drops. âAre you really going to be okay not including the case alternations? Now that Iâve brought it up?â When you only sigh heatedly through your nose, glaring up at him, he shakes his head. âNo. Youâre not.â Then he turns to his office door, slotting the key in the lock while mumbling to you. âYouâre a lot of things, Y/n, but youâre not lazy.â
You stare at his office door long after itâs been shut.
You really hate Akaashi Keiji.
â
âI dunno, Kou, Iâm not sure what to do,â you sigh, running a finger along the rim of your coffee cup. Itâs the same from earlier, because you donât have the money to buy another and because drinking it slowly helps to stave off your hunger. Youâd been too rushed for lunch before leaving home, but you know dinnerâs only four hours away. You can last until then.
âWell-â Bokuto talks through a mouth full of food. â-is it gonna bug you to not do it?â
â Yes ,â you admit a little grumpily. âOf course it is. But I donât have the time â I wanted to have pilot data for the experiment by the end of October.â
âWhat would happen if you pushed it back a few weeks?â He asks loudly, spooning more food into his mouth before heâs even done eating the first mouthful.
âI donât know. It would just push my whole timeline back, and Iâd graduate later than expected, and Iâm already losing my mind. I need a job , Kou â I canât live on grad student wages much longer.â
âYeah, I feel you,â he nods, pulling more food out of his backpack. âBut at least youâre still splitting that nice apartment with your roommate! $500 a month is so nice.â
You stare down at your lukewarm coffee.
You havenât exactly mentioned to him or your other friends that your roommate had moved out. She hadnât left for anything negative â in fact, sheâs a good friend of yours. The two of you had posted in the graduate studentsâ forum over the summer before your first year, each requesting roommates, and youâd paired up nicely. Your personalities had gone together well, and youâd stayed roommates the entirety of grad school. But sheâd had to go home suddenly, which was fine for her because sheâs finishing up her dissertation and doesnât need to be on campus.
However, that does leave you without a roommate in the middle of the semester. Thereâs a fee for you to break your lease early, and it would overall be way more expensive for you to move out, especially in the middle of October. But paying over $1000 on your own, with your limited salary, is extremely difficult.
Youâd looked for another roommate, but there arenât any grad students without housing this late in the year â the only people youâd seen posting on the university Facebook page about housing had been undergrads, and youâre certainly not comfortable with that. So, youâd looked for extra jobs, but your student contract only allows you to be employed a certain amount, and youâd already reached the maximum. Your advisor had told you as much, shaking his head regretfully when youâd all but begged for extra hours in his lab. Youâd even tried finding jobs outside of the university, but most of them had asked for a consistent work schedule and more hours than you can afford to give.Â
Which might be why youâd decided to turn to making adult content online.
Youâre not particularly attached to the idea of being a porn star, but youâd seen a video online talking about the amount of money that adult content creators can make even from a single video, and youâd made an account without giving yourself time to think about it. Youâd taken all the necessary precautions â things like always editing out your face and the singular tattoo you have on the inside of your ankle, or never displaying your background in a way that would be recognizable to someone who knows you. You really donât need anyone finding out about this, especially not your friends.
Youâre not sure that Kuroo would really care â the chemistry studentâs nosy, sure, but heâs a big proponent of leaving people to their lives. And you know that Bokuto would probably find it interesting, but heâs got an objectively big mouth and little social control, so it would be a risk to tell him. The only person youâre really worried will find out is Yachi â your closest friend, that sweet girl wouldnât be likely to judge, but she certainly wouldnât understand. Sheâd ask a lot of questions â â why would you do something like that?â; âwell, are you sure there arenât other options?â; âi would rather move out if i were youâ . Yachiâs had a very straightforward way of thinking ever since you met her, and sheâd be the most likely to tell you that pursuing this line of work is drastic and unnecessary. Youâre not sure youâre emotionally strong enough to deal with that.
Especially since your new occupation isnât exactly going well . Youâve only been at it a few weeks, and youâve garnered a decent number of subscribers on your platform â 897, to be exact (you check every day; youâre desperate). But, in the month since your roommateâs left, youâve hardly made $300, and, while $300 of extra income per month is certainly not insignificant, itâs not enough to pay your rent.
Which is why youâre sitting here now, lunchless and sipping pitifully at cold coffee. But at least youâre in good company, Bokutoâs presence always a weight off your shoulders.
âHi, Bokuto.â
Here comes the weight, right back on your shoulders.
You look up from your cup, meeting Akaashiâs eyes. He scans you quickly but doesnât greet you, only setting his lunch tray down on the table and taking the seat beside Bokuto. The silver-haired man looks between you with wide eyes.
âAw, man! Did you guys fight at your reading group?!â He rubs at his stomach. âDonât fight now, too. Itâll make my tummy hurt.â
You laugh weakly, turning away and surveying the crowded dining hall. âOf course not, Kou. Youâre neutral ground.â
âWhat she said,â Akaashi says, carefully mixing his food with his chopsticks. He cuts a glance at your coffee cup. âIs that the same one from this morning?â He glances at the time on his phone. Itâs already past 2:30.
Youâre instantly defensive. âYeah.â
He hears the edge in your tone, shaking his head with a breath of laughter while pulling noodles into his mouth. He chews and swallows before responding, ever the gentleman. âDidnât bring lunch?â
âForgot it at home.â
He points at the buffet line at the back of the dining hall. âThen buy something.â
âTrying to save money,â you say. You watch his eyebrows pull together in confusion, and you know why â the dining hallâs extremely cheap, usually only $8 or $9 for a fair lunch. The issue is that you donât have $8 or $9. You donât have rent money, so you donât have lunch money.
Thankfully, though, he doesnât say anything else about it, and youâre briefly appreciative that heâs respectful of your financial situation. Youâre also appreciative that he doesnât tip Bokuto off about it. The large man is tapping away on his phone while he chews loudly, so heâd barely heard the questions Akaashi had asked you. He looks up at the silence now, glancing between you.Â
âWhatâd I miss?â
âNothing. We were fighting,â Akaashi says. Todayâs turning, shockingly, into a day of appreciating Akaashi Keiji.
â No, â Bokuto whines. âNo fighting.â
A body slides into the spot beside yours, and another into the spot beside Akaashi.
âThey fighting?â Kuroo asks, organizing his food on his tray. Tsukishima snorts across the table, mumbling â arenât they always? â quietly.
âWeâre fine,â you laugh. âTrying not to make Kouâs tummy hurt.â
âFair enough,â Kuroo says as heâs lifting a bite of food to his mouth. He stops, though, staring down at your cup. âYour tummy hurts, too, I guess.â
âI guess so,â you say, smiling and sipping at the now-gross coffee. He doesnât say anything about it, only turning to ask Tsukishima about some ongoing drama in the history department. But he does slide his tray between the two of you while he talks, shoving his chopsticks into your hand and then leaning casually over to keep chatting to the blond, as though heâs merely asking you to hold them while he talks. You purse your lips, embarrassment warming your ears, but you pick at his tray anyway â just a bit of rice and a thin cut of spam balanced on his spoon. You take two bites and then slide the tray back, muttering â thanks â under your breath.
You feel Akaashiâs eyes on you, but you refuse to meet them. Your phone buzzes in your back pocket, and you pull it into your lap.
[2:47 PM]Â New Comment on Your Video
Your eyes widen, and you lower the brightness and turn your back slightly to Kuroo.Â
user6969Â :Â pretty hot, would be hotter with someone fucking her tho
It already has ten likes. Your eye twitches, and you clear the notification quickly. You could never film with another person. You canât . That defeats the whole purpose of keeping this anonymous.Â
But what if thatâs the thing keeping you from making money? From paying rent? At this point, would you rather bring someone else into this, or would you rather eat the cost of moving out?
But you canât move. With breaking the lease and having to sign a new one â moving fees not included â you already donât have enough money. Thereâs no way to get approved for a new place with such little money in your bank account.Â
Should you sell feet pics? No, you canât switch platforms or content at this point. Youâd be starting from nothing in that case, and itâs no guarantee youâd do well there. Not that youâre really doing well with your current account, either.
Are you going to have to find a partner to film with?
â Y/n .â
You jump, looking up. Akaashiâs staring back, standing behind Bokuto with his eyebrows raised and his tray in his hand. He looks a little annoyed.
âIâve been calling your name.â
You blink. âSorry. What is it?â
He lifts his brows impossibly further. âWe have to go.â
You start, checking the time again. Itâs 2:52. You have to go to the undergraduate class youâre TAing with him. âOh, shit,â you mutter, standing with your bag. âWeâre gonna be late.â You wave a cursory goodbye at the others, rushing to toss your coffee in the trash.Â
You chase after Akaashi, cursing his long legs, and follow him across the quad to the lecture hall. You both slide past the doors just as your advisorâs clearing his throat to get the classâs attention.Â
â Now that our distinguished TAs have arrived, we can get startedâŠÂ â he says into the microphone connected to the podium.
You follow Akaashi up the steps to the top row, managing to control the urge to roll your eyes at the number of undergrad girls watching longingly as Akaashi passes by. You sit with him in the back corner, huffing quietly and then hugging your bag to your stomach, because a low gurgle of hunger is creeping out. Akaashi snorts quietly, and you glare sideways at him. But he just reaches down into his bag, extracting a granola bar and offering it to you, his eyes still on the whiteboard at the front.
You grimace. â Iâm good, thanks, â you whisper.
â Itâs going to annoy me, â he says, jabbing the bar at you. You take it with a soft sigh, mumbling â thanks â to him while you try to unwrap the plastic without being loud. You eat it quietly, deciding that itâs the least he can do for torturing you during LEM. And then you stuff the empty plastic in your bag before extracting your laptop, intending to take notes on your advisorâs lecture.
The screen is bright and noticeable when it opens to your most recently opened tab â thankfully not your porn account, which youâre always mindful to close before leaving home. But it is open to your bankâs website, still signed in and clearly displaying the meager $562.95 in your checking account.
You jump, rushing to lower the screen brightness and close out of the tab at the same time, and then you cut a glance at Akaashi. Heâs not looking directly at your screen, but heâs certainly not looking at the whiteboard anymore. His eyes hover suspiciously in the space between your laptop and his, and he meets your eyes quickly before looking away when he realizes youâre watching him.
â Sorry, â he mumbles. â Brightness caught my eye. âÂ
â Donât say anything ,â is all you say. All that youâre willing to plead with him. He just lifts a brow and nods, saying nothing else as he refocuses his attention on the lecture. You sigh, pushing two frustrated fingers against your temple, because now Akaashi Keiji knows youâre broke and living way too far above your means.
â
You sit on your couch four days later, scrolling aimlessly through Tinder. You grimace as you swipe, unable to bring yourself to approve of any of the guys youâre seeing. There are obviously some good-looking ones, and even some extremely attractive ones, but every time you start to swipe right, you hesitate.
How crazy are you going to look, matching on a dating app with someone, only to ask them if theyâd be willing to be your faceless porn partner?
You groan, throwing your phone down. You canât believe youâve even gotten to this point. Just this week, youâd sworn you would keep running your account alone. Youâd sworn you wouldnât let anyone else get involved with this, for your pride and for your anonymity.
Thatâs another reason youâre so unwilling to match with someone on Tinder. What if he ends up being a total weirdo? What if he leaks your name online or talks about you to his friends? Or-
Oh, God, what if he lies about his age and ends up being an undergrad? Even worse â an undergrad in your department ?
â Ugh- â You shudder, picking your phone back up. âNo. No fucking way.â You quickly delete your account and the app, shaking your head. Itâs too much of a risk, and youâre not even sure you could ever trust someone you donât know to help you with something so private and sensitive.
Do I really have to find a partner? Â
You pull your laptop from the table and open it, logging into your porn account and scrolling through the videos. Youâd stuck to the same posting schedule since youâd started, maintaining consistency and posting every day over the last four weeks. It had definitely helped with your views, because the subscribers you do have know when to expect a new video. But, even this week alone, your view count has become stagnant and â in the case of the video youâd posted today â even gone down a few thousand hits.
You check the section for monetization, seeing youâd made an extra $16 dollars in the last four days. $16 dollars in four days. You might as well start selling your couch.
But if you canât find a partner amongst the hundreds of men you donât know, then it has to be someone you do know.
âKuroo,â you sigh, leaning your head back against the couch. And then you shake your head. Heâs the best choice â heâs private and minds his business. He would never be a risk for outting you. Heâs also extremely attractive, and you have decent chemistry. But heâs also one of your closest friends, and youâre not even willing to tell him you do this for a living, for fear of something changing between you. You could never ask him to help you.
âBokuto,â you move on, bobbing your head back and forth. Heâs definitely the least likely to let anything change between you â heâd find it interesting, and he would never judge you. Heâd also be more than willing to help, especially since this is for the purpose of paying your bills and not just something you do for fun on the side. Heâs incredibly kind and motivated in that way⊠but still, it isnât right.Â
Not only does it feel a bit weird to imagine having sex with him, even for business, but it also wouldnât be long before he accidentally lets something slip to someone. It would be unintentional, of course, but Bokuto Koutarou isnât exactly known for his subtlety. Not to mention that you need someone who canât be recognized on camera, even faceless, and Bokutoâs presence is so overwhelming that it would take no time at all for someone who knows him to pinpoint exactly who it is.
You shake your head, going through the mental list of every guy youâve ever interacted with. You donât really know Tsukishima, despite eating lunch with him most days and seeing him at almost every function, and you get the feeling he would laugh in your face if you ask. You think of guys youâd known in college and even some guys youâd met at the events that your friends have invited you to. You even pick up your phone and start scrolling through your contacts, really stretching the limits of your imagination.
None of them work.
â Fuck ,â you groan, scrubbing at your brow. This isnât going to work.
Your phone buzzes with a text, the message sliding into view before disappearing.
[9:48 PM]
Akaashi: i printed copies of the handout for discussion on monday
Akaashi: putting them in my mailbox so you can grab them before class
Akaashi: youll print the exams next week, right?
You stare at the messages as they come in.
Akaashi .Â
His name drifts like a whisper through your mind, and you have to throw your phone on the table and stand, your eyes wide.
âNo. No,â you say, rounding the couch and pacing behind it. âNo, no, no.â
Not him. Anyone but him. You can barely stand him, and the idea of him knowing what you do to make rent is unfathomable. You canât trust him with something like that-
But, he is trustworthy. Heâd shown himself not even a week ago to be sensitive to your personal information and financial situation. He makes judgment calls that benefit you, even though he could be doing everything in his power to make your life hell. As annoying as he is â as rude as he can be, especially to you â heâs a decent human being. Heâs private, heâs subtle, heâs quiet and keeps to himself, and-
And heâs average. A very good-looking man, yes, but overall a perfectly normal, average guy that would never be recognized.
â No! â You groan, starting to pace harder. â No, no, no! â
Your phone starts to ring on the table. You jump, staring at the screen.
You can see his name even from here.Â
You approach it carefully, hands shaking as you reach for it.Â
âH-Hello?â
â Y/n, â he says, his voice quiet but firm.
âUh-â You laugh weakly. âHi. Whatâs⊠up?â
â Iâm just checking you got my texts. Iâm leaving the department now. â
âYou stayed there until 10 on a Saturday?â
â I lost track of time. You got my texts, then? â
âYes,â you sigh. âYeah, I got them. Thanks for printing.â
â And youâll-â
âYep. I got the exams.â
Thereâs silence on the other end, followed by the quiet jingle of his office keys. â Are you⊠You sound.. not great. Nervous. â
Itâs mortifying that he can hear that it in your voice. Why can he hear that in your voice?
âNo, Iâm good. Just-just busy. Stressed.â
â Oh. Okay, then. â He pauses a moment, and you wonder if heâs giving you time to say more. You donât. Finally, he clears his throat. ââ Kay. Bye. â He hangs up before you can repeat it back to him.
A perfectly average, decent human being whoâs private, subtle, quiet, and keeps to himself.
The only issue is that you hate each other.
Great.
â
You pace in front of his office door two days later, biting your nails while you think. Anxiety swoops low in your gut, over and over again while you imagine talking to him. Swelling and heaving when you imagine the look on his face, inevitably judgmental and maybe a little amused that youâd even thought to approach him.
God, you canât do this.
ïżœïżœNo,â you mumble, turning back toward your own door. Youâll find someone else.
The door opens behind you, and you jump, spinning around. Akaashi stares at you in exasperation, his glasses askew and his hair ruffled like heâs been pulling his fingers through it.
âAre you going to come in, or are you just going to stand outside all day?â
âUh,â you stammer, shaking your head. âUh, no. No, I didnât-I donât have anything-â
âY/n,â he sighs. âYouâve been pacing out here for ten minutes. Iâve been watching your feet go back and forth in front of my door this whole time. Itâs really fucking distracting â Iâm trying to work.â
Your eyes go wide, because youâre not sure youâve ever heard Akaashi swear before. He opens the door wider, beckoning you in with an impatient sweep of his arm. You find yourself stepping past the threshold, wringing your hands as you stand in the middle of the little room. He leaves the door cracked, slipping past you carefully and returning to his desk.
âWhat is it?â He sits and starts sorting through his papers, attention only partially on you. âSomething about LING 303? I graded my sectionâs assignments already â do you need the answer key?â
You swallow, still standing awkwardly in the middle of the room. âNo, I⊠I have an answer key, too.â
âThen?â
A large part of you wants to leave. Heâs in a bad mood, and heâs clearly busy. Youâre not sure this is the best time to bring up something this sensitive with him. But then again â when would you ever find the best time to talk to Akaashi Keiji about your secret porn account?
So, with a shaky breath, you return to the door, pushing it closed quietly and locking it.
âUhm,â you start, turning slowly on the spot and facing him. âCan we talk?â
Heâs got his eyes, wary now, on the doorknob where your hand rests, your thumb still over the lock thatâs been pushed in. He blicks and flicks his gaze to yours, eyes narrowing when he sees the discomfort in your expression.Â
âOâŠkay?â He sets his papers down and leans back in his seat, his attention yours now. â...Whatâs up?â
You make your way to the chair in front of his desk and perch in it uncertainly. âOkay. Is it okay if I say everything before you talk?â He just tilts his head, watching you intensely, and then he nods once. Whatever had been on his mind before is clearly gone, and you silently hope it hadnât been some groundbreaking idea that youâve just interrupted.
âSo,â you start, heaving out a nervous sigh. âYou saw my bank account the other day. Last week.â He nods again, and you rush into the speech youâd practiced all morning, not wanting him to think youâre just here to ask for money. That might be easier, honestly. But your courage might never come again, so you need to barrel through this now. âItâs been that way for about a month now. I live in a 2-bedroom apartment, and â when I had a roommate-â He squints now, because heâs certainly heard Bokuto talk about your roommate as though she still exists. â-my rent was only $500 a month.â
He opens his mouth to speak, thoughts very obviously swirling in that overactive brain of his, but he shuts it again, remembering heâd promised you silence. He nods, and you nod back.
âShe moved out a month ago for personal reasons, and if I break the lease and move out, too, it would cost more than just continuing to live there on my own. And-â You throw your hands around while you talk, ramping up in intensity now that youâve gotten started. â-I know that in the long run, itâs more cost-effective to eat the move-out fees and the cost of moving, but you saw my bank account. I donât have any way of doing that right now.â
âYou need a roommate,â is what he says, unable to stop himself. You sigh, shaking your head.
âI tried. The only people searching for housing this late in the semester are undergrads.â He grimaces, and you nod. âSo thatâs not an option.â You sigh again, trying to remember what to say next. âUh-Oh, right-So-â You wring your hands in your lap. âMy rentâs over $1000, and I obviously donât have that. And Iâve tried looking for extra jobs and for extra hours around the department, but Iâm at max hours, and there are no part-time jobs that are flexible with my research and teaching schedule.â
You sigh shakily, staring out the window behind his head. You stay that way for a minute, gathering your courage. Akaashi watches you carefully, tracking the slight changes in your expression and the defeat that crosses your face.
âY/n?â he asks, his voice soft now, in that way that he speaks to everyone whoâs not you.
âSorry,â you laugh. âNervous.â You clear your throat and ground yourself, looking him straight in the eye. âSo, I had to turn to some⊠desperate measures.â His eyebrows lift with interest, and you think you see him lean in almost imperceptibly. âI⊠decided to start makingâŠÂ content -â
You watch understanding cross his face immediately â of course it does, heâs not the Golden Boy for nothing. His eyes go wide, and he inhales quietly, leaning back in his chair and letting out a long, drawn out breath that ends in a quiet â oh, boy â. You stop talking, just watching him nervously. He stares back a moment, his mouth opening and closing with thoughts unsaid as he considers how to respond.
âAnd it was your only option?â
âProbably not,â you laugh. The sound is watery, and your eyes are starting to sting. âBut I couldnât think of anything else at the time, and I havenât figured out anything better since â anything short of asking someone for a $500 loan.â
âOkay,â he says simply. You meet his eyes, searching for judgment or thinly veiled disgust, or anything . But he just looks back at you, his face devoid of everything but concentration as he thinks. âSo, why are you telling me this?â
You break eye contact, staring down at your lap. Youâre sweating profusely, your stomach doing that terrible flipping. âItâs⊠not exactly going well .â
Silence, and then-
âDefine â not going well â.â
You flick your eyes to meet his briefly, seeing that heâs staring at you with an intensity youâve never seen before. When you make eye contact, he takes a breath.
âY/n-â
âSomeone-â You swallow. âIâve only made $300 in the last four weeks, and my roommate helped me pay the October 1st rent because she felt bad for moving out so suddenly. Iâm clearly desperate, Akaashi, because Iâm not making the kind of money I need to be making, but thereâs nothing else. And someone commented on a video that-â You break, rubbing at your brow and breathing hard. God, this is so difficult. You donât know how to say it to him.
âYou need a partner.â
You suck in a breath, your own watery, stinging eyes meeting his. Heâs breathing a little harder now, and his expressionâs not as guarded as it usually is. Heâs tapping a finger nervously on his desk and blinking a lot.
âWhy me?â
You fumble for an answer. âUhm-Because-â
âWhy not Kuroo?â He asks, his voice calm despite the increased tapping on his desk.
ââm not sure our friendship would survive it. I care too much about him.â
He nods, clearly not offended by the implication that youâre willing to risk things with him . Heâs not your friend and he knows that. The relationship between the two of you is delicate and tense, but itâs never entered the realm of care. Professional respect at most, outright hatred at worst. Thereâs nothing to risk by asking Akaashi Keiji to help, aside from the risk that heâll make you feel bad or even that heâll tell someone else. And it must mean something that youâre trusting him not to do those things.
âBokuto?â he asks, jumping through all the same mental hoops that you had.
âThereâs a million reasons it canât be him,â you say, sighing tiredly. He narrows his eyes at you in suspicion, but he doesnât push it. He just shakes his head slowly.
âI donât think itâs a good idea to do this with someone in the same department.â He considers something else, rolling his eyes slightly. â And we have the same advisor. Itâs too close. If something goes wrongâŠâ He shakes his head again. âI donât know, Y/n.â
âRight,â you say emptily. Youâre already recalculating how often you can film and post solo content without losing too much sleep, the thought of selling feet pics popping up again. Anything to keep your mind off of the fact that talking to Akaashi had been a mistake â a waste of his time, and an exposure of yourself that had amounted to nothing.Â
This had amounted to nothing, baring this piece of your life to him. How humiliating.
âY/n,â he says gently. You donât meet his eyes, just patting your pockets for your office keys.
âOkay, well â thanks for your time-â
âI wonât say anything, Y/n,â he tries. âAbout any of it. I promise.â
âThanks,â you laugh. âYeah, I would appreciate that. Sorry for wasting your time.â You stand quickly, spinning to the door.
âY/n- Y/n- âÂ
The sound of your name is muffled as you yank the door open and slam it closed behind you. You hear him sigh on the other side, a quiet â fuckâ uttered in the stifling silence. Your phone buzzes in your pocket, and you plead for it to be Bokuto or Kuroo or Yachi.
Shockingly, itâs all three, sent to your group chat.
[2:26 PM]
Kou: LUNCH? TEN MINUTES?
Tetsu: bo we eat lunch at THE SAME TIME EVERY SINGLE DAY
Kou: IM JUST CHECKING, FUCK
Hitoka: i like that he reminds us, hehe
Kou: yeah, see??? Yachiâs forgetful!!!
Hitoka: hey now.
Kou: oops-
A small smile tugs at your lips as you drift down the hall to the grad student lounge to get your lunch. But, as youâre typing out that youâll be down soon, another text comes in.
Akaashi: y/n i wont say anything
Akaashi: i swear
Your face burns with embarrassment. Itâs damage control, plain and simple, and the fact that he feels the need to do that at all makes this whole situation worse. You canât bring yourself to open the text or say anything else to him. Itâs humiliating, knowing that Akaashi Keiji knows what you do for money now. That youâre not even good enough at it to make rent.
Akaashi doesnât make it to lunch that day. You try your best to shrug uncaringly when Bokuto wonders aloud why heâs not there.
â
Keiji has never known what to make of you.
From the moment heâd met you â at the department orientation five years ago â heâd found you interesting, and not always necessarily in a good way. When youâd rattled off that list of research interests during your self-introduction, the one that had been unrealistically high-reaching and ambitious, heâd written you off as naive. When youâd made friends easily, your smile bright and your laugh loud and grating against his ears, heâd written you off as annoying.
And then youâd gone ahead and proven that that list wasnât as high-reaching as heâd thought. Or maybe it was, and youâd just had a touch of insanity in your blood. Youâd proven that you arenât just ambitious â youâre successful. Youâre smart â brilliant, even. And Keiji had found you interesting again, because he could never tell if youâd realized it. He still canât.
You carry an intensity in your shoulders and eyes that heâs always caught off guard to see. You question the work of your peers with the kind of brutal honesty that should make you unpopular. It should make people hate you, the way you pick apart their ideas and results. But they never do. They never hate you, and he kind of hates that.Â
Maybe itâs because you always seem so eager to learn. You donât criticize when you question â you just question . You donât tear anyone down â in fact, your questions only seem to build people up, to the point that youâre often stopped in the halls and asked for your opinion on methodological choices and theoretical connections. People seek you out, and youâre all too happy to help.
But with your own work, youâre suddenly unsure. Keiji bristles when he sees it, that uncertain tilt of your head when you talk. Itâs almost impossible to notice, and heâs sure that, to everyone else, youâre just being humble, or a nervous public speaker, even. Youâre knowledgeable about your work, you seem confident when you answer questions, and you accept criticism with grace, taking notes diligently when points come up that you hadnât thought of.
But he sees it â that uncertainty in your own ability. And it pisses him off.
You are annoying, heâd decided after the first time heâd noticed that hesitant nature. It annoys him, because you work just as hard as he does â youâre just as smart as he is â and you canât seem to see it. Or is it a ploy? Is it an act, a performative relatability that only he can see?Â
You piss him off.
How can both of you be so brilliant, but you seem so much more likeable? How can people call him the Golden Boy and then be too afraid to approach him? Youâre the Golden Girl, for fuckâs sake. Canât they see it? Why are you so easy for people to talk to? Why do people tell you â good jobâ when you give presentations, and heâs never gotten so much as a pat on the shoulder? Why do people like you so much , and all he gets is polite smiles and nervous expressions? Why does his name float around the department in reverence, but itâs your name that people say when they want to get a second pair of eyes on their proposals, their chapters?
And why , for all that is good in the world, do you not realize it ?
Thatâs why he targets you. Itâs like an itch he canât reach â he just canât help himself. He doesnât offer you meaningless platitudes or careful language when he gives you feedback, because itâs not your favor he wants. What he wants is to push you. He wants to push you to your limit â bully you to it, if he has to.Â
Because itâs your research thatâs born of brilliance, the kind of brilliance that makes goosebumps rise on his skin. The kind that makes his spine straighten and his gut wrench with excitement. Itâs your research â your mind â that heâs drawn to. He wants to see you succeed, because he wholeheartedly believes that you could change the field.
But you donât see that. No one seems to see that, except him and, undoubtedly, your advisor. So, when he pushes you, he know it looks like a personal attack. He knows it looks to you like he dislikes you for no apparent reason, because youâre just trying your best and heâs the department genius that thinks youâre beneath him. He knows how it looks, and he makes not a single move to fix it â because heâs seen, more than once, how what you think he is and what you think heâs doing has moved you to do revolutionary things.
Heâs seen you do remarkable things with just a little bit of hatred.Â
So he keeps it up, because maybe he hates you just a little bit, too. Maybe his own work is as unquestionable as it is because heâs secretly begging you to question it, begging you to give him that focused look and that critical eye that always makes his breath hitch. But you never give him what he wants, so he doesnât either. He doesnât give you the softspoken voice or the gentle, polite demeanor that he gives everyone else, even though he can see you yearning for it. He wonât give you that, not until you realize what you are â a genius, just the same as him.
When you come to him on October 16th, opening your life to him in ways he hadnât expected, he means every word he says to you. It shouldnât be him â it would get messy, the two of you having sex. He knows you had to have thought this through already, that you would never have approached him unless he was the absolute last option available, but he canât bring himself to say yes to you. He knows you need the money, and thereâs a non-insignificant part of him that actually wants to say yes. That wants to help you, because, despite how he feels about you, he can recognize the severity of the situation. Of the look in your eye, desperate and scared.
But he canât bring himself to do it, because he knows that this intricately built web of hate and respect that youâve built together is incredibly fragile. That whatever you two have â whatever this thing is that canât be called friendship or anything close to it â would collapse and change. Keiji doesnât like change.Â
So he watches, over the course of October 17th, 18th, and 19th, as you become more desperate.Â
He catches you dissociating more than once during your shared reading group meetings, and you donât even pull your laptop out during the syntax class you TA together. You avoid his eyes for the duration of the 17th, but you seem to forget about him entirely the rest of the days, your gaze distant and stressed. You check your phone more than once during class, and he doesnât dare look, because heâs certain youâre looking at your porn account for views and comments.
He catches you chasing after your advisor after group meetings, and he realizes quickly that the manâs aware of your financial situation, because he only shrugs regretfully and leaves you in the hall, staring down at nothing. He catches you turning down Bokutoâs lunchtime offer to hit up a bar on the evening of the 18th, and then he glances into your office the morning of the 19th â youâre staring blankly at the journal article on your desk, not reading a single word, and Keiji begins to understand how this might impact your research.
He confirms it that afternoon, a cloudy Thursday just before lunch. Heâs passing his advisorâs office on the way to the grad student lounge, a can of iced coffee waiting with his name on it â but he stops short when he hears your voice inside.
â ...have to find another job, â you say, your voice clearly stressed. â Thereâs no way to get an advance on next monthâs paycheck from the department? â
The old man sighs loudly. â Iâll see what I can do, but you know these things donât usually work like that. And they take time. I think another jobâs the only option at the moment. â
â Okay, â you say. â In that case, Iâm not sure what to do about my research- â
Keiji inhales sharply, pressing his ear to the door. Youâre not postponing your experiment, are you? You canât. He knows he told you to push it as much as necessary for the case marking issues, but he hadnât meant for it to be like this .Â
â Take some time to focus on your personal situation ,â your advisor says. â Find a part-time job with stable hours, and weâll work your research around it. It might double the time needed- â
Double?!
Keijiâs starts to shake his head. No, thatâs not possible. You canât.
â Fuck ,â he whispers, stomping off down the hall, his coffee entirely forgotten. God, is this really going to be the thing that brings you down? Is it really going to be this ?Â
He barrels into his office and starts to pace the length of it. He thinks through your situation in extreme detail, rubbing at his brow and sighing in frustration every time he has to turn and pace the other way down his office.Â
Obviously, youâve thought through every option, but he runs through them anyway, if only to confirm for himself that you really are left with no option except finding a job and delaying the progress of your research.
Well, thereâs one option.
One option that wouldnât require you to put your energy toward applying for jobs and training for some side gig you have no interest in. One option that doesnât require you to lose sleep or miss class or drop out of optional reading groups due to having to work somewhere across town. One option that would probably get you immediate payout, which he knows is the reason you started in the first place.
He looks at the little flip calendar on his desk. October 19th. 12 days until your rent is due. How long would it take you to apply for jobs? Would they let you start right away? When would you get your first paycheck?
Is finding a part-time job even a solution anymore?
â Fuck! â He throws himself down in his chair. Thereâs a very large part of him â the majority, even â thatâs concerned about your research progress. Itâs unwarranted, his dedication to work thatâs not his own. But itâs not even about that â itâs the fact that he knows how this will tear at you. How it will eat you alive, not being able to work on your research. How agonizing itâll be, seeing the rest of your cohort progress while you struggle to pay rent. Because you think like he thinks, whether youâd like to admit it or not.
Maybe thatâs the smaller part of him, too. The part that wants to help you because itâs you . Because, as much as he dislikes and even hates you at times, he wants to fix this for you. He wants things to be okay for you, because youâre a person with a life â a person in his life â and you donât deserve the kind of torment youâre currently experiencing. He doesnât want to see you crushed by the stress.
Not when thereâs something he can do about it.
â
Akaashi texts you that night.
You sit, hunched, at your dining table, frantically fixing your resumĂ© and sending it off to different cafes, restaurants, and bars all over Tokyo. Youâve been applying all week â two places have already rejected you, saying theyâre only hiring full-time workers, and one place has scheduled an interview with you, but itâs over a week away.
Youâre staring intensely at your laptop, pushing down the continuous sense of dread by finding more and more places to apply. You barely notice when your phone buzzes next to you, and you pick it up without looking, thinking itâll be one of your friends sending a meme to the group chat.
[7:59 PM]
Akaashi: iâll do it.
You stare down at your phone, unseeing. Your ears start to buzz, and your vision goes blurry for a moment.
Heâll do it? Heâll-
You press call before you can think of anything. He picks up on the first ring.
â Hello? â
âYouâll do it?â Your eyes focus in on a scuff on your hardwood floors, latching onto it so you donât have to look at anything else. âReally?â
â Yeah. Iâll do it. â
âWhy?â
Thereâs a moment of silence on the other end, and you eyebrows scrunch the longer it stretches on.
â I could use a bit of extra money, too. Once youâre done paying rent. â
Itâs insultingly easy to spot that thatâs bullshit, but you donât press it. You canât risk pressing this. Not when your solution â this miracle â is finally within reach.
âWhat about the other stuff?â
â Weâll figure it out. I can draft up a contract and bring it by tomorrow, if that works for you. â
âA contract?â You want to roll your eyes, because thatâs incredibly Akaashi Keiji , but you also recognize that you hadnât thought of that.
â Are you in or not? â
Thereâs no way in hell youâre passing this up.
âYes-Sorry, Iâm just⊠surprised. But, yes.â
â Alright. Tomorrow afternoon? â
âIâm free after 2.â
â Iâll be there at 2:30. Send me your address. â
âOâŠkay. Okay.â
You hear him swallow and shift on the other end, and then he mumbles, â Okay. See you tomorrow. â
Youâre left with the dial tone, that scuff in the hardwood burned into your mind when you blink.
âOkay,â you say to no one.
The conversation had lasted 55 seconds.
â
He shows up at 2:29 on Friday, rapping three quick knocks on your door and scaring the shit out of you as you pace the living room nervously. You rush to get it, fixing your hair and clothes as you go and giving the room a cursory glance. Youâre suddenly so nervous to exist in front of him, feeling your appearance and the cleanliness of your home under scrutiny even though he hasnât seen either yet.
You pull the front door open, dragging your eyes up to meet his. Heâs wearing a pair of black slacks and a tucked-in white button-down, the collar peeking through the top of the black sweater vest heâd fitted over it. His glasses, black and settled comfortably on the bridge of his nose, glint in the light and block you from seeing the look in his eye when you appear in front of him. And then he shifts his weight, and you see those deep blue eyes staring right into yours.
Akaashi adjusts his backpack on his shoulder. âHi.â
You swallow hard. âUh. Hi.â You step back quickly to let him in, and you try not to notice the subtle cologne heâs wearing when he brushes past you. Had he always worn cologne? âThanks for coming.â
âMhm,â he hums, slipping his sneakers off and setting them neatly to the side in your foyer. When he stands, you watch him cast his gaze across your living room and dining area, tucked into a corner by the kitchen. He steps into the living room, wandering slowly to the side of the couch while looking at the space. âI can see why you wouldnât want to let this place go.â
High ceilings, lots of windows, and a small balcony. Hardwood floors and an open floorplan â the kitchen is visible past the island counter, two beams capping the ends of the bar to section the area off from the rest of the room. Your bedroom door is just past the couch, your roommateâs old room hidden down a narrow hallway with the bathroom.Â
When you and your ex-roommate had found the place together, five years prior, rent had been cheaper and $500 hadnât been considered a steal for a place like this. Youâd managed to keep the landlord from raising the prices over the years, the two of you stellar tenants with not a single issue to note. Thatâs the only reason heâd let your roommate break her lease so suddenly â especially since youâd said you could take the entire thing over until you could find a new roommate.
Not that that new roommate would ever appear.
âYeah,â you say, following Akaashi into the room and gesturing for him to sit. You move to the kitchen to get two glasses of water while he takes the corner and sets his backpack down at his feet. âIâve made my home here. Would hate to start over, I guess.â
He looks around, eyeing all the decorations and furniture in the room. Your roommate had left you with the furniture, thankfully â this place would be barren otherwise. Sheâd even left her bed and the little couch in her room, reasoning that keeping the room furnished might encourage someone to move in.Â
Youâre not sure youâd ever tell her what you use that bed and couch for now, a conveniently placed âstudioâ right in your own home.
You join Akaashi on the couch, offering him the water and just nodding awkwardly when he thanks you for it. His fingers brush yours when he takes the glass, his attention still on the room, and you fight the blush that rises. There are a number of thoughts floating through your mind as you examine his fingers, but you shake your head to clear them, because technically no contracts have been signed, so youâre not allowed to think about how pretty his hands will look on camera.
âSoâŠâ you start. âWhat exactly did you have in mind for these contracts?â
He blinks, as though remembering why heâs here, and sets his glass down. âRight.â He rustles through his bag, extracting two sets of papers and handing one to you. âI⊠had to look up a template for this kind of contract-â
You snort despite yourself, because heâs blushing slightly at having to admit that he has no clue what heâs doing. He rolls his eyes but continues anyway.Â
âI think itâs standard to just discuss expectations, boundaries, and-uh- preferences .âÂ
You flip the first page over, finding blank lines to fill in the terms of the agreement â and then a long checklist that spans about two more pages. It consists entirely of turn-ons, turn-offs, kinks (taboo or otherwise), and absolute non-negotiables. Thereâs another page with blank lines, the section titled â Agreed Upon Consent System â.Â
You nod slowly. âYou did your homework.â
âDid you forget who I am?â
You bark out a laugh, shaking your head as you look through the checklist again. âSorry â is âShibari â listed here because you know it, or because you expect that I might?â
He smothers a smile, but you catch the downward turn of his lips before itâs gone. âI didnât want to make any assumptions.â
âFair enough,â you sigh. And then you look at him. âAnd⊠youâre sure youâre okay with this?â When he just nods, meeting your eyes evenly, you watch him for a moment. âAnd you wonât, like, hold this over my head or something?â
His brows furrow for a moment before smoothing out. âNo. Of course not.â You donât respond, and he sighs. âI donât benefit from hurting you, you know.â
You relax at that. You suppose thatâs true â the two of you might not like each other, but it would be another level of messed up if Akaashi were to use this against you in any way..
âOkay. Sorry. I had to check.â
âSurprisingly, Iâm above blackmail.â
You shake your head, wondering if heâd always been a little funny, or if this situationâs so ridiculous that youâre finding everything hilarious. âOkay, so â terms?â
He shifts his weight forward, leaning his elbows on his knee while he looks down at the first page of the contract. âI think paymentâs the most important part right now.â You nod, watching as he retrieves a pen from his bag and clicks it a few times. âI was thinking⊠I take 20% of the cut for each video, but only when it wouldnât prevent you from paying rent and bills?â
âHowâd you decide on 20%?â
He shrugs. âIâm relatively comfortable financially, so I donât need a large portion. And I donât expect anything for the first few weeks, at least â not until your finances are settled.â
You watch the side of his face while he thinks â his lips pinch into a grimace and he shifts his head back and forth. Heâd always been that way, from the beginning. He clicks his pen a few more times, and then he glances at you.
âIs that okay with you? Iâm good for 10%, too.â
You shake your head right away. âNo, of course not. 20% is completely reasonable.â
He nods, tapping his pen to the paper and writing out the agreement for payment. He sighs quietly. âOkay, next thing⊠What do you do for privacy?â
You take a breath. âI edit my face out of everything, and-â You stretch your foot out and lift your pant leg, displaying the small sunflower tattoo on the inside of your ankle. â-I edit that out, too.â You point down the hall. âI film in the spare bedroom, so that no one recognizes the stuff in my room. And I muffle some of the audio, so my voice isnât easy to recognize. It would help, too, if we need to talk to each other.â
He nods, and then he starts to roll up the sleeve on his right arm. âWould it be hard to edit this out?â Thereâs a medium-sized tattoo on his forearm, a stretch of the moon cycles sketched in black across his skin.
âOh, woah-â You scoot in on instinct, your fingers hovering over his milky skin. âWhen did you get this?â
âLast year, when I passed the Prelim.â His voice comes from over your head, quiet and low. You smile to yourself, examining the intricate line art. âI wanted to gift myself something.â You find it interesting to imagine Akaashi Keiji being nervous enough about passing the milestone between doctoral student and doctoral candidate, so much that heâd promised himself something if he were to pass.
âPretty cool gift,â you mumble, your fingers tracing the air over his skin but never making contact. He lowers his arm, and you seem to realize only now how close you are. You meet his eyes quickly, seeing the silent amusement in his gaze, and you scoot back to your spot. âSorry.â
He says nothing of it, just nodding down to his arm. âCan you edit it?â
You squint at the art. âI can try, but if you move your arms a lot, it might be easier to cover it with makeup. We can test it â film from the other side, lower the camera so your armâs out of frame. That kind of thing.â
He nods, rolling his sleeve down again. You look away from his hands as he works, taking the moment instead to reflect on how business-like this conversation is. Youâd expected more discomfort, given the circumstances. But you both treat it with detachment and only a few hiccups that can be recovered easily. Itâs oddly easy, in a way that you canât imagine with Bokuto or Kuroo â perhaps because of how much history you have with them, how much would be changing by entering into this kind of agreement together.
Thereâs nothing holding you and Akaashi together that would prevent you from doing business together in this way. Itâs reassuring to realize that.
Akaashi buttons the cuff on his sleeve again and reaches for the pen, jotting down the terms of privacy. He glances at you briefly. âAbout who we can tellâŠâ
Your heart jumps. âNo one, preferably.â
âRight,â he says. âBut if someone were to find out on accident, or if someone puts together that weâre having sex⊠what do we say?â
âOhâŠâ You tap your nails on your thigh. âJust that weâre hooking up?â
He nods. âThatâs fine. I also think itâs fine if you decide to tell someone what weâre actually doing.â He cuts you short when you open your mouth to protest. â I wonât tell anyone, because this isnât my financial situation and this wasnât my idea. This is your business, and Iâm mindful of that. But I think itâs perfectly possible that you might end up wanting to tell someone, for whatever reason. And I think thatâs your prerogative, so I donât mind if you tell them that Iâm part of it.â He takes a breath, smiling to himself when he considers something. âUh, but â maybe donât show them anything.â
âOh, God, I would never,â you reassure him, shaking your head. âThatâs a huge violation. And I donât expect that Iâll want to tell anyone-â
âStill,â he argues. âItâs good to have the option. If youâre stressed or need a friend.â
âWell, what if you want to tell someone? What if you need a friend?â
His eyebrows tent in amusement, and he sighs. âHow about we just agree to ask each other first? Whatever the reason.â
You take a breath. âOkay. Iâm okay with that â reserving the right to say no?â
âOf course,â he says plainly, adding that to the terms.
You nod, sighing shakily. You feel an odd sense of trust with him â that heâs good for his word, because heâs, more often than not, honest to a fault.
âAnything⊠else?â you ask. âBefore we get to the⊠technical parts?â
He snorts through his nose while he writes, and youâre reminded of the absurdity of the situation. âYeah, just one more thing.â He purses his lips now, not meeting your eyes. âWhen was your last health visit?â
âOh!â You blink rapidly, realizing what heâs asking. âOh, Iâm clean. I get a yearly health check, and I havenât had sex inâ I dunno, probably two or three years, so Iâm good,â you ramble, laughing to yourself as you brush off his concern. Then you stop, because heâs looking at you like heâs fighting laughter himself, and you register what youâd said. That youâd just admitted to him that you havenât gotten laid in three years . âUh-â
He shakes his head. âGood to know. And itâs been at least a year for me, too.â He reaches into his bag, retrieving a sheet of paper. âBut I brought this, in case you needed it-â He starts to hand it to you, and you piece together quickly that this is his health check. You take it, only glancing at the date to confirm that it was, in fact, done today.
âYou went to the doctor today?â
He blinks. âI thought it would be best.â
You gape at him. âYou didnât have to do that. I would have believed you.â You glance around your living room. âI donât even know where my sheet is- I went two months ago-â
âI donât need to see it,â he says, shaking his head. âI believe you.â
âDude! You canât have all these weird, anti-double-standards.â You throw your hands up and hand him his health check back, and then you stand, moving to the file cabinet in the corner. âIâm finding that little fucker-â
â Y/n ,â Akaashi laughs, and you pause, if only because youâve never heard your name like that from him. He looks more visibly relaxed, too, now that you look at him properly. âItâs fine . If you want to find it, find it later.â
You sigh, staring him down a moment but returning to the couch nonetheless. He tries to hand you the health check again, but you brush it off with a grumble. âI donât need your stupid health check, damn it.â
âI went through the trouble of getting it,â he argues, lifting his brows with a smug tilt of his head. You glare, snatching it from him but leaving it on the coffee table.
âWhat else, huh?â You bark, half-joking. âGot any other surprises for me?â
âNo,â he says with a patient shake of his head, his lips tugging his smile away. âWe can get to the technical part.â
You sigh, lifting your copy of the contract from the table and leafing through it. âSo, I post every day on a consistent schedule. Obviously, I donât want you to give up every evening of your week to film for the next dayâs post, nor do I have the time.â
âAnd it would look weird â both of us becoming suddenly unavailable to see our friends every night,â he reasons, and you nod.
âExactly. You have a life, and so do I. I usually batch all my content one night a week, and then I spend a few hours the next night editing everything and scheduling it to post.â
âYouâve really thought this through,â he comments quietly, also leafing through his contract. You warm, realizing itâs a compliment.Â
â Thanks ,â you mutter. âIâd hoped it would have yielded better results, but at least I have a consistent schedule now.â You return to your proposal. âI think filming partner content will take longer, naturally, but I donât want us meeting every night, so howâs twice a week? Five or six hours each?â
He hums and nods right away. âMakes sense. And we can change the days every week, so weâre not both conveniently missing every single, say, Tuesday and Thursday.â
âYeah, good point.â He writes it down, and you clear your throat. âAnd I donât think we should kiss,â you suggest, your voice quiet.
âI agree.â He doesnât think twice about it, just writing it on the next line, and relief fills you. You hadnât been sure how to bring up to him the fact that you find kissing personal and intimate in a way that you arenât comfortable experiencing with him. It would probably offend you if he were anyone else â the way he agrees immediately â but you know heâs only thinking about this as logically as you are.
You appreciate, for once, that you and Akaashi Keiji think so similarly.
âAnd,â you start, clapping your hands as you realize something suddenly. âAs for protection-â
âOh, yeah,â he says, reaching down into his bag.Â
He drops a box of condoms on the table, size large.
You stare down at it dumbly. âOh. Okay. Thatâs-â Youâre not sure youâd ever expected to be in the know about the size of Akaashiâs-
âI was at the store and didnât want to forget.â
âOh. Yeah, thatâs fine, itâs just-â You smile to yourself, a little embarrassed to know this. âVideos with condoms donât really do as well as videos without.â
You feel his eyes on the side of your face. âI⊠did not know that,â he says. âBut I can understand why.â
You swallow, handing the condoms back to him with an awkward grin. âIâm on the pill, is what I wanted to say.â Youâre glad to see that the apples of his cheeks are becoming rosy.
âGot it,â he says, turning to put the box in his bag again. He scribbles â birth control â haphazardly on the sheet, and you let out an accidental snicker. He shakes his head at it, and you catch the grin on his face just as heâs turning away.
âUh,â you start, trying not to laugh again. âI was also thinking pet names might be necessary.â
âOh, if we need to talk to each other,â he realizes, nodding. âYeah. Do you have a preference?â
âI think that question might be better for you,â you muse. âIâm good with most things-â
â Sweetheart ? Princess ? Pretty girl or baby girl ? Darling ?â he asks without thinking. You watch his mouth move, words youâd never expected from him just falling from his lips like nothing.Â
âS-Sure. Thatâs all fine with me.â
âOkay,â he says. âI think for me⊠I mean, baby âs fine. Iâm not really into the⊠more stereotypical names.â
You tilt your head. âWhat, like daddy ?â
He grimaces. âYeah, thatâs not my thing-â He cuts a glance at you. âSorry, if itâs yours.â
You smile wide now, utterly amused. âCanât say it is. But â are you a dom, Akaashi? Or a sub.â
âWhy?â he says, a single eyebrow lifting as his lips quirk in a grin. âBecause I like to be called baby ?â
âIâm just curious,â you say, feigning a seriousness you simply donât feel.
âWell, be curious in bed, not now.â
You laugh loudly, throwing your head back. âYes, Sir.â His fingers twitch on his pen, and your eyebrows lift with interest. You lean forward. â Sir ? Is that it?â
He shakes his head. âNope.â
âBut you reacted when I said it-â
He rolls his eyes and starts to flip the page toward the checklist of preferences. âItâs not what you said, itâs how you said it.âÂ
âHowâd I say it?â
He stands, glancing down the hall. âLike a brat.â Your smile drops, right along with your stomach. It flips violently, and your fingers start to tingle, but he barely gives you a second look. âGive me a tour of the spare bedroom? While we go through these.â
Your legs shake when you stand. âSure.â You lead him down the hall, contract clutched in your hand and heart in your throat. You werenât prepared to hear that from him.
You push the door open, letting him in. He wanders to the center of the room, turning in place. Youâd put plain white sheets on the bed, the comforter a deep red color. The couch in the corner is covered in a pale green sheet, and there are a few throw pillows and blankets laid over the arm and back of it. Thereâs an empty desk in the corner, one that Akaashi eyes with an amused lift of his brow.Â
âItâs nice in here,â he says blankly, his eyes still tracking the decor in the room. Itâs all plain enough not to be recognizable, but the room is comfortable to be in. Youâd put string lights all around the wall, your phone equipped with an app to change the colors whenever. Youâve got one tripod for your phone near the bed and another near the couch, and thereâs a chest at the end of the bed. Akaashi taps it with his foot.
âFunctional or just decoration?â Your harsh flush is his answer, and he reaches for the latch, pausing for permission once heâs got his fingers on it. You nod curtly, and he drops his contract and pen on the bed so he can crouch by the chest and lift the top with both hands.
He gives you no indication of his thoughts when he looks inside â itâs filled with sex toys, harnesses, props, and basically anything else you thought might be useful. Looking at it now, youâre certain it looks like youâre into a lot of interesting things, but he only glances at you for a second round of permission before he reaches in. He seems to understand that itâs one thing to look and another entirely to touch , but you give him that permission, too.
The first thing he extracts is a whip. âHave you ever used this?â
You smile emptily. âOn myself, once. Wasnât very fun. And I didnât upload the video.â
He sets it back inside gently. âI prefer to use my hands, if thatâs okay.â
âOh.â Youâre not sure youâll ever get used to this. âSure.â
He spends the next few minutes quietly pulling out a variety of dildos, butt plugs, and vibrators and laying them neatly on the bed, side by side. You grow warmer with each one, unsure what to do with this situation. He also retrieves a stretch of black cloth that youâd used once to blindfold yourself. It hadnât gone as well as youâd hoped.
He stands with it now, tugging on it experimentally. âI like this.â
âOkay.â
He nods to the items on the bed. âI like all those, too-â He glances down and reaches into the chest again, setting a bottle of lube next to the vibrator on the end.
You approach him finally, standing beside him as you survey the collection. âOkay. Why?â
He picks up his contract, scanning the list and pointing to your bed as he speaks. âGuided masturbation.â He points to the dildos and the vibrators. He points next to the butt plugs. âAnal-â
âOh, Iâve-â You fidget with your fingers. âI have yet to be successful with that.â He stares down at you in confusion, and then gestures to the fact that there are three of them on the bed, varying in size. You smile pitifully up at him. âI thought the issue was the size.â
âOâŠkay,â he says with a breath of laughter. âWe donât have to include anal-â
âNo, IâmâŠâ You chuckle to yourself. âIâm not opposed⊠obviously.â
Thereâs a long moment of eye contact, one where you become incredibly warm and his lips fight to tug into a smirk, but he eventually turns back to his contract.Â
âUnderstood.â
You wonder how much longer this torture will last.
He moves to the couch, sighing quietly and clicking his pen again. Youâre starting to get the idea that thatâs a nervous tick. âShould we just go one at a time and say yes or no?â
âOkay. Sure.â You close the lid of the chest and sit on it, ignoring the pile of toys behind you.Â
You spend the next ten minutes that way, voting on a list of kinks with Akaashi Keiji, as though you havenât spent the last five years dreading every second with him. You learn that heâs into choking â giving and receiving â but that he prefers giving oral more than receiving it. You tell him that you like being tied up but that youâve never tried it with a partner before, and then you admit to a slight oral fixation. He jokes dryly that youâd have to settle for his fingers in your mouth, in that case, and you bite back a warning that the oral fixation includes marking your partners up where others can see. He only lifts a brow and asks if he should check off â exhibitionist â, and you joke that your balcony isnât visible from the street. You ask more certainly if heâs a dom, because itâs becoming obvious that he is, and he rolls his eyes and asks if youâre always this bratty.
The list goes on and on, and youâre surprised by how honest both of you are being. He checks â dacryphilia â, and you tell him with waning embarrassment that he can go ahead and check â somnophilia â while heâs at it. Even things youâve never tried but have been quietly interested in make the list, and you wonder if maybe itâs because this is a chance to try all those things without fear of judgment from the person youâre doing it with. Thereâs no pressure with Akaashi, because thereâs no crushing fear that heâs going to find you strange or uncomfortable.Â
Heâd shrugged and nodded when youâd said the word somnophilia, for fuckâs sake. He utters the words â temperature playâ , â overstimulation â, and â ruined orgasm â with ease, and you rattle off â edging â, â praise â, and â dirty talk â like itâs nothing. Thereâs nothing to worry about with him.
Eventually, he sighs, turning to the last page of the contract, which only has the â Agreed Upon Consent System â section and lines for your signatures. âAnd⊠is it alright if Iâm a little mean?â
You tilt your head at him, your embarrassment long forgotten. âLike, degradation? Calling me names?â
He hums and then shakes his head. âNot exactly.â He thinks for a moment. âMore like⊠disinterest.â
âOh.â You consider it. âI suppose thatâs a kind of degradation.â
âI suppose it is.â He shifts. âJust worried, since you mentioned praise.â
You feel a little embarrassment now. âWell, is there a way to do both?â
His smile is surprised, and he ducks his head when he laughs. âYeah, I think there might be. Disinterested praise.â
âYeah, see? Just make sure not to smile at me when you say nice things,â you joke.
He shakes his head and then taps the paper. âWhatâs our consent system?â
You shrug. âIâm only really familiar with the color system.â
âGreen, yellow, red?â he asks, already starting to write it down. You hum in agreement, and he holds the contract up when heâs done. âOkay. Iâm ready to sign if you are.â
You leave your blank copy on the bed and hop off the chest, joining him on the couch. You watch as he signs his name and marks the date on one of the lines â he hands you the pen after, and you do the same, your name sitting neatly under his.Â
âOkay,â you breathe, staring down at the paper with fresh eyes. He nods beside you, and then he turns his head. You feel his eyes on you, so you meet them, and he sticks his hand out to you.
âLetâs get you your rent money.â
You canât help but laugh when you take his hand, shaking it firmly.
â
He texts you later that night, after youâve had time to lie in your bed and process whatâs just happened.Â
You feel, weirdly enough, more comfortable with him â not completely, and certainly nothing of the friendly sort, but you feel like the afternoon hadnât been that tense or difficult. It had mostly been awkward and a little funny, which is only to be expected in this situation. It makes you wonder, while youâre showering and making dinner, if maybe Akaashiâs not all that bad outside of an academic context.
Of course, things between you inside an academic context are so hostile that it had always bled over into whatever social interactions youâd been forced into by your mutual friends. You canât imagine that those things will change anytime soon â it feels strange to picture Akaashi as anything but rude and torturous within the department, and you find that youâre not so enthused at the idea of him suddenly warming up to you. You like how things are between you. You like him just how he is, predictably annoying and cold.
So, when he texts you, youâre unsurprised that your guards go up.
[10:16 PM]
Akaashi: i need your account name + site
[10:18 PM]
Akaashi: please
You feel the floor drop out from under you, and you answer in a frenzy.
[10:19 PM]
You: no fucking way
Akaashi: ???????
Akaashi: i need to study before tomorrow??????
Yes, youâd agreed to spend the majority of the day tomorrow batching content for the week. But you have no idea why you hadnât anticipated this.Â
Aghast, you donât bother typing, just jabbing down on the button to record a voice note.
âYou need to study?! â You say, exasperated. âMy bodyâs all over that account! Iâm doing a lot of things on that account! Naked things!â
You send it and wait, pacing the space around your bed. He sends a voice note back. You click play with a shaky thumb.
â Are you insane?â he says, and you hear that heâs laughing at you. You swell with annoyance as he talks. â Did you plan to have sex with me with all your clothes on? â You roll your eyes, sitting at the edge of your bed.Â
âYeah, that was a stupid point,â you mumble to yourself.
â I need to see what the general aesthetic of your account is, okay? To see how you film. â
You press the microphone again to record. âYeah, but this feels super unfair! Youâll have seen my whole body, and I wonât have seen yours â this is skewed!â
He texts back this time.
[10:23 PM]
Akaashi: oh, sorry. let me link you to my porn account, too, then.
Akaashi: are you hearing yourself???
You groan, throwing yourself back on your mattress. You know heâs right, but itâs terrifying to know that Akaashi will have seen you naked â more than naked, really â and you will have no clue what youâre walking into tomorrow. Still, you just flail on your bed a few times in protest before sighing and lifting your phone to your face.
[10:26 PM]
You: xxxvids .com
You: username tokyolovely
You throw your phone down and roll over to bury your face in the mattress, screaming into the comforter when your phone buzzes with his response.
Akaashi: ⊠no comment.
You want to smack him.
Akaashi: and why couldnt you choose one of the big sites that everyone else posts on???
Akaashi: onlyfans?? pornhub even???
Akaashi: i swear to god if i get a virus from xxxvids .com
Akaashi: rent is not the only expense youll need to worry about
You definitely want to smack him.
â
Keiji throws his phone down on his desk, shaking his head with a sigh.
âWhat even is that?â he mumbles to himself, typing the site into his laptop. â XXXVid- This is so stupid. Just use PornHub at that point.â
Heâs accosted immediately by thumbnails of naked women and men with penises that just have to be cosmetically enlarged. He plugs his headphones in quickly, very much not needing any audio surprises from this site, and makes an account, rolling his eyes when he needs to come up with a username.
When heâs done, he types your name into the search bar.
â TokyoâŠlovely, â he says as he types, and then his middle finger hovers over the Enter key.Â
His goal really is just to look at how youâve set up your account. He just wants to see the general tone of your channel. If youâre loud or quiet. If youâve marketed yourself as one of those gentle, virginal girls or as a sex freak that makes a lot of noise. He needs to know these things, so he knows how to perform tomorrow. Itâs logical. It makes sense.
But still, he sits here, finger hovering over the key while he contemplates it. Heâd gone through the entire contract with you and revealed his deepest interests â previously experienced or otherwise. But this feels like a move he canât take back. Once he does this, he will have seen your body, and thatâs irreversible.
You agreed to this, you idiot.
He groans, jamming his finger down on the key before he can think further about it. The website buffers long enough that he wonders about that virus again, and then it loads.
Oh.
His heart jumps, and he finds himself looking away from his screen and glancing nervously around his living room, as though he doesnât live completely alone. And then he looks back, met with the sight of your body.
He can only tell itâs you because he knows itâs you, and â looking at you in a set of black lingerie in the first thumbnail â this body looks like yours. The next thumbnail has you in a mismatched bra-panty pair, and, in the video after, youâre not wearing anything at all. He sucks in a breath, glancing away every few seconds while he scrolls, because it feels wrong to stare. He focuses on the titles, testing every ounce of his reading comprehension in this moment.

The room becomes noticeably warmer as he stares down at the little thumbnail of you curled up on the couch in your spare room. Heâd intended to watch one video, just to see the extent of your editing, but heâd meant only to skim through it, skipping parts and examining the video from a purely analytic standpoint.
But⊠Well, if heâs going to watch one, anywayâŠÂ
He drags his mouse over it, about to click into it, when a pop-up banner appears from the left side of his screen.
TOKYOLOVELY IS ACTIVE NOW â SAY HI!
Keiji jumps, feeling as though heâs been caught doing something awful. And then he sighs heatedly and clicks on the banner, watching it open to an empty chat box.
[10:35 PM]
tokyohandsome: stop anxiously scrolling through your own videos
tokyolovely: YOU FUCK, YOU CHOSE THAT NAME ON PURPOSE
tokyohandsome: get offline, tokyolovely
tokyolovely: youre not allowed to watch the one of me with that dildo in doggy
Keiji blinks hard. The what ? Where youâre what ?
tokyohandsome: go to bed, youre driving me nuts
tokyohandsome: wait-
tokyohandsome: can you see which video i view????
tokyolovely: âŠ. if i say yes will you exit this website
tokyohandsome: ill take that as a no.
tokyolovely: YOU HAVE TO TELL ME WHICH ONE YOU WATCH
tokyohandsome: goodnight, lovely <3Â
tokyolovely: i hate you.
He laughs to himself, bright and hidden in his hand.
tokyohandsome: do you get paid for interacting with viewers in dms?
tokyolovely: yes.
tokyohandsome: do i decide how much they give you?
tokyolovely: ⊠itâs a rating after i log off.
tokyohandsome: then you better say goodnight to me and log off, lovely <3
tokyolovely: âŠ.. goodnight, handsome.
tokyohandsome: :((
tokyolovely: âŠ. <3
tokyohandsome: :))
TOKYOLOVELY HAS LOGGED OFF
He sighs, pleased, and gives you a five-star rating like heâd always intended, closing the chat. Heâs tempted to go looking for that video of you in doggy position, but he respects your hyper-specific request and returns to the video heâd originally seen. He clicks on it now, nerves a bit eased after that absurd interaction with you, and settles back in his chair.
The video starts with you in your underwear, touching yourself gently through the fabric. He watches with distant interest as you squeeze your breasts through your bra and then drop one hand to the spot between your thighs thatâs currently hidden by how youâre curled up. You touch yourself vaguely, and he hears the beginnings of a moan, quiet in his headphones.
The sound grows the longer you continue, and he wonders if those moans sound faked because theyâre obviously so or because he knows you. From the many years of hearing your voice â albeit never in this situation â he canât imagine that this is what you would actually sound like if you were feeling good. He clicks his tongue, shaking his head as he watches you start to slide the panties down your thighs.Â
Heâs certain he can pull better sounds out of you than that.
He watches a few moments longer, genuinely critiquing the video and your performance, if only to gauge how he should act, too.Â
But then you drop your panties on the couch beside you, sighing breathily, and move to unhook your bra. Keijiâs eyebrows lift as you slip the straps off, and suddenly heâs not thinking about things he plans to do differently as your business partner.
You prop your feet up on the couch and spread your legs, and he spreads his, too, unconsciously, eyes dropping to your exposed core. His tongue darts out, wetting his lips, and he shifts in his seat, his sweats becoming suspiciously tight. He watches you on his laptop screen â the way your fingertips swipe over your clit in two tight circles before dropping to your entrance â and he swallows, committing the motion to memory, because heâs here to study. To study .
He blinks hard, shifting again and ignoring the way his cock twitches in his pants and strains against the band. He watches you dip both fingers into your entrance before slipping out, and he has the torturous thought that your fingers look a lot smaller than his. You repeat the motion three or four times, working yourself open until you can fit both fingers up to the knuckles.Â
You moan in Keijiâs ears, loud and a little gratuitous â but he moans back.
He palms himself through his sweats, watching you finger yourself. His breath hitches, and his stomach swirls with nerves, and he feels a wave of desire crash over him.
And then he hears your voice, in that note youâd sent him.
â-feels super unfair â Youâll have seen my whole body, and I wonât have seen yours-â
He groans, throwing his head back against his chair briefly, and reaches for his phone before he can overthink.
â Fuck it, â he mumbles in a strained voice, opening the camera and propping his phone up against the stack of books on his desk.Â
He presses record.
â
At 11pm, you get a text.
Youâve sat on your bed the last thirty minutes, scrolling through Twitter absentmindedly as you think about what Akaashi could be watching. You wonder if heâs actually watched anything, or if heâs just skimming the thumbnails and titles, or maybe if heâd just logged off right after you, satisfied with teasing you a little.Â
You feel painfully vulnerable in your state of not knowing. You have no clue what youâre walking into tomorrow. At least before, you were partially comforted in that neither of you had seen the other naked, and also in that neither of you had been with someone else in at least a year. There had been an air of safety, knowing that you and Akaashi were on relatively equal ground.
Youâre horribly underground, now.
So, when his first text comes through, the banner pulling down over the top of your screen, you think the worst.
[10:59 PM]Â
Akaashi : [Video Attached]
What is that? What did he do? Did he record your videos on his phone? Is he commenting on them? At the very worst, heâs making fun of you, and at the very best, heâs offering you tips to improve your filming or editing. You really donât know which you hate more.
But then his second text comes in, this banner replacing the last.
Akaashi: making it a little less unfair.
â What? â you mumble, brows furrowed as you click on the notification. Your phone jumps to the text thread, and you squint at the thumbnail of the video. Itâs just him leaning toward the camera with a furrowed brow, seated at his desk in grey sweats and a white t-shirt, with his glasses perched on his nose and his hair slightly wet from whatâs probably a recent shower. Heâs got headphones in, and thereâs something bright on his laptop screen.
Itâs the glare in the corner of his glasses, a reflection of his laptop screen, that makes your heart leap.
You know that pale green sheet.
âWhat⊠the fuck âŠ?â You bring the phone close to your face, too scared to press play . âIs that asshole live-reacting to my video?â With a trembling finger, your click on the video.
And you realize immediately whatâs happening.
Akaashi settles back in his chair with a heated sigh, his tongue darting out as he watches his screen. Itâs because he leaned back that you can see properly now â the tent in his pants, the hand he presses over the outline of his cock with a quiet sigh.
Your jaw drops. Heâs-
His eyes track your movement on the screen, which you can now see clearly in the glare of his glasses, and his bottom lip catches between his teeth. He breathes hard, palming himself through his sweats as he watches your video. He glances once at his own camera, clearly nervous about recording this, but then his eyes widen and fly to his screen, whatever sound youâd just made in his headphones drawing his attention completely.
â Oh, f- â He purses his lips, and you feel yourself leaning in, wanting to hear what heâd been about to say. He blinks rapidly, eyes trained on one spot â you can see exactly which video it is now, and your heart jumps when you recognize the way your own body moves in the reflection of his glasses.
So thatâs what heâs into.
You spend so long staring at the reflection in his glasses that you nearly miss the way he starts to move. You drop your eyes in time to catch him lifting his hips just enough to slide his sweats down to his thighs. He tucks one hand into his boxers, and you watch with parted lips as Akaashi Keijiâs eyes roll back into his head.
â Fuck, â he breathes, his head dropping back momentarily, and your mouth falls open more, your brain stunned into nothingness as you watch him masturbate to a video of you masturbating. As you realize that this isnât just anyone watching one of your videos â liking one of your videos.
This is Akaashi Keiji.
Akaashi Keijiâs just given you the confirmation that youâre good at this, after so many weeks of feeling quite the opposite.
âOh,â you breathe, the sticky heat of understanding washing over your skin. It worsens when he uses his free hand to tug his boxers down, making this ground feel suddenly a lot more equal.
Oh.
Akaashi keeps his eyes glued to his screen, and you catch a glimpse of your on-screen self coming more and more undone. You examine him closely while he watches it, too â his lips are swollen and wet from pursing and biting at them, and thereâs a flush high on his cheeks and a hooded, hazy quality to his eyes that makes your stomach flip with nerves. His tongue darts out again, wetting his pink lips just as heâs parting them to sigh.Â
Your eyes drop, watching how he slides his palm against his cock, slick with precum and making the most impolite, soft squelching sound whenever he flicks his wrist. Your thighs press together instinctively, a hard throb pulsing through your core when his hips jerk slightly.Â
His breathing speeds up, as does the flick of his wrist, and you realize in the reflection that you must be starting to squirt. Akaashi grips the arm of his desk chair with his free hand and presses his lips together, his moan muffled but still audible. His hips jerk and stutter, and then his eyes roll back into his head again as he comes all over his hand and stomach, streaks of white painting the back of his hand and wrist.
His lips part in a gasp and a rough sigh as heâs coming down, and he slumps against his chair, breathing hard as he stares at nothing â the screen is dark in his glasses now. He drags his clean hand through his hair, tugging hard and breathing out a soft â fuck â. He breathes twice more, and then his eyes flick to his camera, as though heâs only just remembered itâs there.
He sees himself in the video and rolls his eyes immediately, a breathless laugh leaving him as he shakes his head and looks away.
â Uh, â he says, still laughing. He leans forward, reaching with his free hand for the phone, and shakes his head again. â See you tomorrow, I guess.â
The video cuts there, leaving you with silence and a sudden, overwhelming attraction to Akaashi Keiji.
Oh.

Do the Thing! | Toilet Repair
logline; Today's itinerary: Fix the toilet, catch up with Syd, try not to cry when everyone asks you where you've been.
series history; Previous Chapter
portion; 7.1k+ (this shit got away from me man, idk what to say)
possible allergies; Negative self-talk (It's the Bear, babe, everyone's sad). I did no research on plumbing and am truly making it the fuck up-- I know for a fact I'm not using any word correctly and I simply will not be fixing it. Reader eats meat!! Specifically pork!! Your 'name' is 100% just Tony now.
pairing; Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto & Fem Reader (No pronouns, but 'handywoman' and 'Miss' are said. Plus a chest reference).
you ever start writing and you just cannot seem to find an end so you keep going forever? yeah.
âI think my name is just Tony now.â
You sip your overpriced orange juice. You really have to fucking savour it, now a days. Thatâs like 25 cents a sip, and Sydâs treating you to this breakfast outing, so itâs not even your own wallet on the line here.
âYou lose all sense of identity, in a restaurant.â Syd straightens her back, mocking her very own mechanical movements of whenever she steps in a kitchen. âI am Chef.â
This diner isnât more than two blocks down from The Bear. It was probably your second favourite spot in this neighbourhood. Probably still is. Sitting in the back corner booth (your favourite) with Syd is nice but distracting. Sheâs been updating you on everything since the catering scene and her botched credit, and youâre absorbing all of it, you swear, itâs just hard to not remember why this was your favourite booth.
Not because itâs seats are the least worn in, not because itâs got the right amount of sun through the window without blinding you, but because of the company you kept here. Youâre trying to not notice your own name carved into the table. Especially since itâs not your handiwork.
You laugh at Sydâs joke on time, thank God. No awkward pause. âYeah, you fuckinâ are. Head, right?â
She nods. âItâs cool. Itâs like, vomit-worthy stressful but alsoâŠâ
âYou wish you were dead when youâre there, but youâd rather be dead than do anything else?â
âYessir.â She nods again, digging further into her pancakes. âI really fucking owe you, by the way.â
âYouâre paying me off through breakfast.â You wave her off. âPlus, I was available and it was like maaayybe 5 minutes of manual labour, itâs nothing.â
âYâknow what?â She hums, âI think actually, you owe me.â
âYeah?â You grin.â Please, let me clear my debts, Syd?â
She smiles, pointing her fork at you. âYou owe me the fuckinâ Beef background Iâve apparently not unlocked. Everyone was talking about you after.â
âGood things?â
âVague things. Shit made me even more curious.â
You laugh. No shit theyâd be vague. What can they say? âWhen my dad was running the repairmen gig, Cicero or Fak would call him inââ
âOh fuck.â She snaps her fingers, seemingly in realization. âYour dadâs the connection!â
âThe connection?â
âFak said he had a connection for our fire safety test shit, and then said he didnâtââ
âAh.â You nod knowingly. âDad cut the cord on his business phone when it transferred to me, didnât really keep people updated. Whoops.â
She nods, taking another bite of her pancakes, speaking mid-chew. âYou couldâve saved our asses way faster, and Iâll-I'll never forgive you, but continue.â
Snickering, you continue, âWell, theyâd call my dad in, and then my dad would call me in as his like, like his fuckinâ Sous of Repairs. And shit broke all the time at the Beef, as Iâm sure youâre well aware, so I hung out around Mikey and everyone a lot.â
âAh. Nâ thenâŠâ
âHe fuckinâ died.â You laugh, because thereâs no way to say it smooth, so you might as well say it bad. You stretch out your arms and lean back in the booth. âI kinda took a step back, after that, so we didnât manage to crossover âtil now. Sâironic that youâre the one that brought me back instead of an oldie, honestly.â
She desperately wants to ask more about Mike, but she can tell now is not the time, so she just lets it lie and moves on. âYou stopped being an EMT to take up the handyman shit, then?â
âYessir.â You nod, finishing your straggling home fries. âJust kinda made sense to trade off, and I didnât want to see the family bizz die. Do I have to occasionally pick up shifts bartending to make rent during slow months? Yes. But I also donât watch people die anymore, so thatâs a win.â
âIn a way, youâre watching people die still, just slowly.â
You bite down hard to stifle any semblance of a smile or laughter, deadpanning, just to see her squirm in awkwardness for a moment. It works with flying colours, of course it does. Itâs Syd. Sheâs still Syd. You speak at the same time.
âCause of the alcohol?â âCauseâCause of the alcohol.â
You both break into laughter, she throws her napkin at you. âCanât stand you, oh my god. Letâs go clock in.â
She pays your bill before you can try to sneak your card in, which feels all too familiar, and youâre off.
Off to fix an exploded toilet.
âHow the fuck do you fix an exploded toilet?â
Your hands rub over your face, lifting your safety goggles for a second. Too fucking foggy. Too fucking sweaty. Plumbing never really was your biggest strength. Youâre staring at the bane of your existence, and itâs the latrine. How far we fall.
âYou good, Cousin?â You hear from behind. You donât need to turn to know itâs Richie in the doorway. Itâs a fair question, youâre sitting criss-cross in front of a toilet, head in hands.
âYeah, Cousin, Iâm good.â Your words are muffled by your hands. Fully not cousins. For the record. You would argue you're not even that close, but he'd slap you upside the head. You turn to look at him over your shoulder. âCan you like, get me a pen and note pad? I need to like, strategize an attack.â
âItâs not that bad, Cousinââ âItâs that bad.â âJust tape theââ âFuck off with the tape!â
You click your teeth, staring at the gurgling porcelain before youâ At least itâs clean, itâs just fucked. âI shut the valve and it didnât do shit. I think I have to remove it entirely so I can see whatâs going on with the underground pipe.â
âHeard.â Richie and you both know that his hotfix handiwork has absolutely contributed to this penultimate mess youâre in now, but youâre both letting that go quietly for now. âYou charge by hour or service?â
âService flat rate and then after two hours itâs by hour.â
He hums, knocking his fist on the doorway a few times before walking away. âPen and pad, Chef.â
âNot a Chef!â
âTerm of Respect, Chef!â
You tap your leg incessantly, groaning like youâve got an 80-year-old body as you stand to your feet. Richieâs grown a lot. He wears suits now. Hasnât even poked at you for vanishing. Though you have a feeling itâs coming. If not from him, from someone.
You step out into the hall, leaned against the wall with your arms crossed as you wait for your pen and pad. And now you just have more time and a better view to take in how much has changed.
Gutted. A few walls gone. Makes sense, you told Mikey he was getting a mold problem. He never listened. Seats are new. The booths are the all-around style ones now. Ritzy. Itâs too good for this neighbourhood. Is that a good thing? Yeah, right? Despite the fact that The Bear should feel out of place, you feel out of place being in it. Could you afford to eat here? Could the people who work here afford to eat here? Syd said sheâs not getting paid for the next few months, so at the very least, the Head Chef canât.
âStrange?â Tina sidles up to you on the wall, wiping her hands on her apron. Completely knocking you out of your dissociative fugue state.
âYeah.â You nod, a little too quickly, that felt judgey, you correct, uncrossing your arms. âItâs daunting, I think; to see it all at once rather than slowly built in. Like, I know objectively this is very cool, butââ
Tina hums with understanding. âFeels gutted?â
âWas gutted.â You nod. âDoesnât mean I donât like it, itâs just, I dunno. Adjustment period, all that.â
âI needed a second too, but Jeff is good. Change has been good.â You nod like you know who Jeff is. âCarmen, I mean.â Your nod is now significantly more understanding. She smiles, youâre a little surprised to see Tinaâs got a lot more insight than she used to. She pulled the thought of Carmen right out of your subconscious before you even detected it for yourself. âHeâs good. Youâll see.â
You nod. You know the good she means is not Michelin Star Good. You already know that. Heâs Mikey good. Person good. You clear your throat. âHowâs Louis?â
âGood. Yâknow, heâs getting to that age, getting in trouble. Sâbeen a while since heâs had a good influence.â She nudges you. There it is. Thereâs the poke. The âwhere have you been?â The âitâs been a yearâ. Theâ âYâknow, Chef didnât come to the funeral neither.â
That one you didnât expect, your head swivels to her hard. âCarmen didnât go?â
His brother didnât go? Oh, who the fuck are you to judge...
She nods, practically with her whole body, she looks more amused than anything. But like, mom amused. The worst amused. âYouâre both the sensitive type.â
You cock your head at her, raising a brow. Smirking slightly. âWow, Tina, I thought you changed too but you still talk your shit, eh?â
âIâm not talking shit!â She laughs, hands up in defence. âIâm just saying, youâre alike.â You hope that the laughter makes her forget the topic but it doesnât.
âWhere have you been?â She softens. Sheâs not asking to be mean, sheâs asking out of concern. Why does that make it feel worse?
You tuck your hands in your pockets and retrain your eyes on hers, even if it feels bad. âThought time and distance would heal all wounds.â
âDid they?â
Before you can answer, âPen delivery, cousin!â Richie returns, triumphantly, with a pen and pad held high in the sky. He makes you jump for it. You elbow him in the gut, not hard. âFuck off, RichâŠâ He keels over enough for you to grab it. âThank you, chef.â
You turn back to Tina, who you now realize has spent half her smoke break on you. She nods to you, and then the bathroom door. âIâll let you get back to it.â You nod in return. When she turns to walk away, you grab her shoulder.
âTina.â She turns again. You should say something. Something vulnerable and thankful. Words of affirmation are not your thing. But maybe they could be, âIf you end up with a dead plateââ Or maybe not.
She grins, and part of you is concerned by this, but she waves you off, giggling like she knows something you donât. Already walking off. âYouâre gonna be taken care of, Terry, donât worry.â
This is a bad new nickname scheme. The fridge guy is just gonna end up being called âfridge guyâ if you take all his names.
Itâs maybe three hours later. 11 am ish. Youâve finally put the toilet back in place, the pipes fixed undergroundâ Which is a huge win of progress, the problem is, itâs just seemed to open the toiletâs ability to have other problems that need to be addressed. Thereâs a strong chance youâll be here until you die. And even after that, this stupid toilet will still be gurgling, outliving you.
But you seriously have to eat something, so you scrub yourself clean, set your safety equipment down, and head out of the bathroom for a much-needed stretch of the legsâ And to hopefully get a plate from Tina.
On your way to the kitchen, youâre stopped and walked backwards to a booth in the corner by Richie. âHey, Miss, happy to serve you today, my nameâs Richard but you can call me Richie, howâre you doinâ this fine morning?â
Theyâve yet to open front of house, so you play along, taking your seat with a laugh. âIâm doing perfect, Richie, how are you?â
He nudges the air . âEy, better now that youâre here, ah? Can I get a drink started for you?â
âReally gonna practice your set on me?â
He shrugs, still smiling. âIf you donât use it, you lose it.â
You hum, then rub your temples, the headache is setting inâ Not cause of him, just been a tough morning. âJust your coldest fuckinâ glass of water, Rich.â
âRight away, Cousin.â He slips off into the kitchen.
When the door swings open again, itâs not Richie coming with your ice water, but Carmenâ Itâs your first time seeing him since the walk-in. When you came in this morning with Syd, it was Nat that gave you the quick briefing on the schedule and goals for today.
âTony.â He hums, corners of his mouth just slightly upturned. The nickname has stuck. Goddamn. He sets the water down in front of you, along with a plateâ Covered by a clocheâOr the silver lid thing, whatever.
âCarmy.â You only mean to mimic his tone, but then cringe. âIs Carmy fine?â
He pauses mid slide into the booth, sitting across from you. He seemed all cool and collected and is now suddenly extremely caught off guard. Already sweaty. âY-yeah, Iâm better, thank youââ
âNo, I meantââ It is so difficult to hold back laughter. You deserve an Oscar.
Youâre not doing great to be fair but like, still, Oscar worthy attempt.
âI meant like, like is the nickname okay?â
The horrors just keep piling on his face, and you canât help but feel guilty. No shit he feels like heâs starting on a lower playing field here. You knew his dead brother, you know his Head Chef, your first time meeting him was at quite possibly his lowest moment and biggest mistakeâ Of which you had to coax him out of, and now heâs misunderstanding every innocent question you have for a inquiry into his psyche.
He clears his throat for objectively too long of a time. âCarmy is fine. Tony is fine?â
âIâm doing okay, yeah.â
Thank God, he laughs, awkward sure but objectively amused.
You nod down to the covered plate, smiling, âFuck is this?â
He leans forward in his seat to get a hand over the lid. âI, uh. Made you a thing. As thanks or like, anâ an apology.â
Ah. Thatâs why Tina was laughing about you getting taken care of.
He lifts the lid, and what is revealed, if you werenât careful, would be enough to make you cry. Thankfully, the shock registers as uproarious laughter, one that Carmen cannot help but join.
âWhat the fuck?â
Pork brisket sandwich. Something that Mikey made for you, specifically. Because you said one time you were more of a pork fan than beef and he absolutely lost it. In a cute way, though. Said âOh, Iâll make you fuckinâ pork, alright?â Youâre not sure if he won or lost the argument, because you did find it better.
âI, uh, we had some cuts left over that we werenât gonna be able to fuckinâ use, and uh, Tina showed me this, this recipe card, last night.â He slides over the very same brisket recipe Mikey had written down. Little doodles of angry faces and Xs over pigs in the margins.
âHe was so fuckinâ mad.â You snort, looking at it. âAll I fuckinâ said was I had a preference!â
âIn The Beef!â
âHe asked!â You quickly defend, through laughter. âAnd it tastes fucking good. All he did was prove my fuckinâ pointâ And spent hours doing it. Were you here overnight for this, slowcooking?â
He shakes his head, though thereâs a hesitation in itâ So youâre not privy to completely believe him. He sniffs, swiping at his nose âI, uh, just came in early. Had to fix some shit anyways.â
Heâs staring at the sandwich, then occasionally you, expectantly. You look at him with equal expectance.
âWell?â You start.
âWell?â He astutely adds.
You nod down at the dish. âDo the thing.â
âThe thing?â
You pick up one half of the sandwich, but youâve got no plans of eating until he satisfies this craving first.
âThe thing Syd does where she explains why sheâs proud of her dish and why I should care. I know itâs Mikeyâs, but you clearly made changes.â
âOh. UhâŠâ He was both expecting and not expecting this soap box. âSo, followed the rub to a Tâ Well, with a salt bed, this time. Put it on brioche instead of the old shit. And I uh, added uhmââ He snaps his fingers, staring at the sandwich in your hand. âAdded pickled red onion, for acid and sweet, and garlic confit. IâmâIâm happy with my spin on it.â
You whistle as a form of praise, he flushes with a glow of pride and is desperately trying to not show it. Heâs proud because itâs curated, personal. Ah, he is Mikey good. You nod and take a bite, trying to control your reaction. Worst part about having Artists as friends (especially chefs): They fucking stare so hard when youâre taking in their work. And theyâre over analyzing every micro expression. Heâs no different.
Fuck. Itâs fucking good. Is it bad that itâs better than anything Mikey ever made? Nah, thatâs how heâd want it.
âAh fuck, that sucksââ Is the first thing you say, and his face falls, âExpensive food is worth it.â Right back up. Easy to please. âItâs really good, Chef. Thank you. Did you try it yet?â
He shakes his head, so you push the plate with the other half of the sandwichâ Itâs brisket, anyways. Youâll be full by the end of this one. Portions generous. He looks momentarily hesitant, which is cute, but inevitably leans forward and takes the sandwich. He nods with each chew.
He hums when he finishes chewing, pointing emphatically at you, though his voice is neutral. âYou donât like something, though.â
âWhat?â
âWhatâs wrong with it?â He stares at into the cross section of his bite. âChewy? Texture?â
âThereâs nothing wrong with it.â Youâre quick to deny.
He shakes his head, hand over his mouth to hide the sauce on his mouth. âMânot gonna be hurt.â
âThereâs nothing wrong with the dish, Carmen.â You take another bite to prove your point. Also youâre hungry. Two things can be true.
He zones in on the emphasis immediately. âItâs the plate, isnât it? I told Sydââ
âYour tables arenât bolted.â You interrupt, swiftly. Mouth semi-full.
âHuh?â
You put your sandwich down and swallow, taking your time with it. âYour booth tables.â
You knock on the pristine wood with the joints of your left hand. You swivel your body to look under the table, he follows suit, meeting you there. His left leg has been violently shaking, but heâs thought you wouldnât notice it until now.
You put a hand on his knee to stop the shaking. He bristles, slightly, but youâre not even doing it on purpose. Your focus isnât on him. It was making the table imperceptibly shiftâ Which, of course, you clocked. You tap your foot to the bottom of the table leg. No screws. âThey arenât bolted down.â
You lift yourself back up, moving your hand back to yourself in tandem. He stares at it for a little longer. How you noticed that, he will never know. Repairmen are a different breedâŠ
âI just thought it was a weird choice. Nothing wrong with it, per say. Maybe you wanna test different layouts.â You shrug, taking another bite.
âThe booths arenât bolted either.â He adds, lifting his head up above the table, finally. âI donâtâ weâre not gonna fuck with the layout, I donât think.â
âShould get Fak on that, then.â
âFakâs big-timing us.â You cock your brow, mid chew. He explains. âHeâs focusing on hosting, f'now.â
You nod, swallowing, hand in front of your mouth so you can lick the sauce off your upper lip in non-humiliated peace. âThis another job for me, then?â
âIf youâll take it.â
âIf your fuckinâ toilet doesnât kill me, I will.â
âHowâs that going?â
You shake your hand so-so. âAsk me in two to three hours how itâs going.â
âHeard.â He sighs, leaning back in the booth. The stress is too apparent not to ask.
âHowâs the second day open going?â
âIâm not in a fuckinâ freezer, so thatâs a win.â Oh-ho, heâs acknowledging it. You were very comfortable forgetting that moment for his sake. âThanks, uh, fâ that.â
You shake your head, shrugging off the thanks. You lift your last few bites of the sandwich to him. âYouâre good. Youâve gifted me brisket. You relax since?â
âNot really.â He replies bluntly, taking a deep inhale. He pulls at his face from the top down, with both hands. Oof. Bad sign. âI think Iâll be good by tomorrow. Gonna get off early, tonight.â
âYou donât seem happy about that.â
âAsk me in two tâ three days if Iâm happy about it.â
Back to work and this is taking so much fucking longer than it needs to take. Why is there tape there? Fucking Richie. Fucking Fak. Fucking Mikey. Godssake. Pipes are fixed. Water pressure is fixed. What the fuck is still wrong with it? What the fuck is wrong with you? Everyone is going to hate you if you canât fix this. Youâve been here for like 5 hours and you canât figure out whatâs fucking wrong here? Youâre nothing. Youâreâ
The toilet does you the favour of knocking you out of your episode by spraying you in the fucking face, soaking through the top of your jumpsuit. With a groan, you unzip the upper half and tie the wet sleeves around your waist. âSon-of-a-bitch.â
Maybe you just need a change in task for a second. Also, a new t-shirt, because your tank did not survive the waterworks either. This room isnât the thing you need right now. You slip down the hall to the kitchen. âWho needs a coffee? Or water?â
Thereâs a chorus of orders, all of which sound like youâve just asked âwho wants a gift from God?â, which, you might as well have. This is what you like about being a handyman. The relief you bring. You just need a smidge of praise to get through the rest of this job. Youâve got this.
The small, but serviceable coffee machine in very back of the kitchen calls your name, but Richie sticks his arm out, blocking you from walking past expo up front.
âHolâ up, Cousin, you look like a fuckinâ wet dog.â
âWell, what âya gonna do about it?â You retort, despite the retort not honestly making any sense, you put your hands on your hips. âDo you want a fuckinâ coffee or not?â
He rolls his eyes, falling back onto the balls of his feet before walking off. âEy, Sug, are those shirts still in the basementââ
Youâve won for now. You scrub your hands clean before getting to work. This is good. Oooh, Marcus has fresh coffee beans (that heâs willing to share!)â This is easy. You can already fix most broken things, but a machine that actually fucking works? Baby, you can make that sing.
Plus, the bartending gigs youâve done donât make you a barista by any means, but they certainly donât hurt. Oooh, Marcus has syrups! Fuck it. Steamed and frothed milk. That toilet has you on your ass, you need to go above and beyond here. Make each cup personal. You need a win in the form of admiration.
You gather a tray of coffees (and a water for Sweeps, who is too fucking sweaty for a hot drink right now, so fair), all varying in milks, sugars, syrups, intensity. âCoffee run, I hand âem out, donât just take! Corner!â
Ebra, to no oneâs shock, likes his coffee blackâ But, and heâll tell no one this, you just know it on instinctâ He likes it a little too watery. âGood.â Who are you to judge? He likes what he likes.
Tina would take hers black for simplicity, if you let her, but of course you donât. 2 sugars, foamed milk, chocolate and cinnamon syrup. âToo good to me.â Itâs too worth it, when she says it like that and slaps your cheek. Balm of the soul.
Marcus, who watched you make these, did opt to let his imagination run too wild and added one of every syrup to his own cup, wanting to experiment with you. It doesnât taste good. You switch it for a spiced coffee when heâs not looking. Heâs silently very thankful.
After handing out a few more to the new cooks, you come up to Syd. âTake this one, take this one.â Then whisper, so no one knows you are displaying supreme favouritism. âItâs the one oat milk latte I made.â
She turns to you from her station, then darts looks over her shoulder like sheâs making an under the table deal before grabbing it from you. She takes a delighted sip, eyes rolling just slightly in the relief of caffeine, she nods. âFire, Chef.â Ah. This will get you through the day alone.
It also gets you through the willpower it takes to ignore Fak running by you to steal a coffee off your tray. Out of the corner of your eye, you point to the one meant for himâ As if you didnât make it for him, câmonâŠ
âHowâs bathroom?â Syd asks, taking another long sip.
Iâm going to fucking explode, not unlike your drainage pipe. âNeeded a thinking break, but Iâve made a lot of progress. Howâs kitchen?â
âMade a lot of progress. Auto-piloting through this prep.â She looks down at her cutting board, cracking back to it. âLatte helps, a lot, thank you. You should join for family, if youâre still here for it. Unless you donât want more brisket.â
Fuck. She doesnât think youâre so slow that youâre gonna be here until family, does she? âYeah, maybe.â You look around, three coffees still on the tray. â...Whereâs Carmen?â
She grimaces. Uh oh. The tension she glossed over at breakfast is still definitely there. She nods her head to the back door. âSmoke break. Or temper tantrum. I donât fuckinâ know. Donât tell him I said that.â You laugh, nodding. âYou think a coffee would helpââ âPlease.â
âCorner!â Yells Richie, returning to you. He silently flicks out a shirt for you, holding it up proudly, âTHE BERFâ stares back at you. You give it a solid five seconds to process before you say anything.
âCollectorâs item...â You nod, tone sarcastically impressed. You pivot your shoulder for him to throw it over, hands too busy.
âThatâs what I fuckinâ said!â He throws it over your shoulder. âNo one fuckinâ listens, these days.â
You bite back laughter and nod, handing him his coffee. Hot. Dark. Two sugars. And, to his delighted surprise, a touch of cinnamon syrup. âOh, fuck, missed your twists, Chip.â
You wince at what was a long-forgotten nickname, and so does Richie. Funny how remembering origins can do that to you. Heâd just said it so instinctively, really. âMy badââ
âChip is good.â You interrupt, rolling your shoulders back. And it is good, really. âItâs kindaâItâs kinda comforting.â Itâs nice to not forget. He nods, and you give each other the âwe are still so fucked, eh?â smile before lovingly bumping shoulders as he returns to expo and you head to the back alley.
Carmenâs squatting, cigarette in one hand, creating a halo of smoke around him, and his phone in the other. He snaps out of his mental fog when the door opens, slipping his phone into the pocket of his apron like heâs got a secret to hide.
You hesitate at the doorway, maybe this is not the moment. âSorry, Chef, I just wanted to offer a coffee? If you need air aloneââ
âNo, no, Iâm goodââ Heâs quick to correct, then even quicker to correct himself. âIâ Iâll take a coffee, I mean. You can stay, sâfine.â
He reaches for it when you sit next to him, but you pull the tray back to hand him the correct one. âSorry, IâI like, did a thing, for yours. I dunno how you take your coffee, so I thought Iâd do it weird.â
He takes the cup, eying it curiously. âDo it weird?â
âDo it like, like a Chef. Canât make anything fuckinâ simple. The lot of you.â
He hums, amused, staring at the cup, then looks at you expectantly. âWell?â
âWell?â
âDo the thing.â
You snort, shaking your head. âOh, fuck off.â
âCâmon, tell me why I should care.â He teases.
âAh, fuck.â You sniff, oh to have your own words turned on you. Looking at the coffee in his hands, âI figured youâd like strong black coffee, but like, complex. So, itâs got like, cardamom and lavender nâ maple syrup. Shout out Marcus.â He smiles. âAnd then, I know I did just say black coffee but I wanted the aesthetic so I spooned foamed milk on top and sprinkled on some dried lavender.â You take your own cup in hand, putting the tray down. âIf you hate it, weâll trade.â
He pays close attention to your explanation. Man, his eye contact is simultaneously so soft and so scary. He takes a sip. Letâs it sit in his mouth for a second. âExcellent, Chef.â
Oh, if Sydâs âFireâ could get you through the day, Carmenâs âExcellentâ will get you through the week to spare. You hide the way you beam by drinking your own coffee.
âHowâre you doing?â Itâs far too obvious that heâs had something heavy on his head all day, but youâre not going to say the quiet part loud, yet.
He takes a long time to respond. âI, uhâŠâ And when he does, itâs weak. âIâm alright, yeah. Iâm alright.â
You nod repeatedly, digesting the huge lie. âAsk me how Iâm doing.â
He squints. ââŠHowâre youââ
âFuckinâ terrible, Carm.â You cut him off, putting your cup down next to him, standing up. You speak emphatically, gesturing with your whole body.
âIâm at my wits, Chef. Completely out of my depth. I fix the main pipe, I fix the water pressure, I triple check the tank, I fuckinâ power cycle the valveâ Iâm absolutely at a loss as to why itâs still gurglingâ Why it shot water straight at my titsâ Close your eyes, if you care, by the way.â
With barely any warning you peel off your tank top, youâve got a bra, itâs fine. Itâs very cute that he still looks away. You slip the new shirt over your head as you speak, muffling the words.
ââIâm wearing a shirt that says Berf, and the only way I can feel any semblance of not being utterly useless is by making coffees so good everyone has to praise me for them. And now Iâm telling the fucking owner, my boss for the day all this.â
He nods, slowly. There is perhaps, not a single person in his life that has ever been this forthright. Someone he hasnât had to over-analyze or dig into to figure out whatâs actually going on. It is refreshing, terrifying, and for some reason, removing your walls have completely shattered his.
âSo.â You lower your head to his level where he sits. âHow are you doing, Chef?â
He takes a long sip of his coffee. Stews on the question before he spills his guts, calmly. âIâm sitting outside of the restaurant I started that I own, and my brother should be here, but heâs not andâ And I was locked in a fuckinâ freezer on my opening night, which was my own fuckinâ faultâ And the tape is wrong and the painting is stupid and that new hire did meth so now weâre down one.â He takes a deep breath.
âAnd we have Heinz instead of Frenchies, and itâs fine. Thatâs the fucked partâ Itâs fine. The ship did not sink without meâ It went fine. Better, maybe. My problems arenât fuckinâ problems. Iâm just making it worse for myselfâ everyone. And I know Syd is mad at me, and I know myâ My girlfriend? Is mad at me, and I know that Iâm gonna break up with her tonight because Iâm not meant to beâ that.â He says the last part fast, more to himself than you, really. And then he finally looks back up at you.
âAnd Iâm telling all of this to the person who saved me from hypothermia and a fuckinââFuckinâ meltdown, who probably thinksâ knows that Iâm a psycho.â
You take a beat before nodding, sitting next to him again, arms crossed. Silent. Contemplative. âI have thoughts.â
He nods, taking a drag. âDonât pull punches.â
âWell, to start most honestly, we must remember, I love Syd. So, Iâm not gonna mince about her.â
âHeard.â
You recall everything Sydney had told you at breakfast. The recap of how she got to this point. âSyd isnât mad at you, sheâs disappointed and distrustful.â
He grimaces. âThat sounds worse.â
âIt is.â
âOh.â
âBut in a way you can fix.â
âHow?â
âHandle shit different. Actually show up to shit and make calls. Manage your priorities by urgencyâ Not by favourites. If I broke my fuckinâ arm and your âgirlfriendâ had a runny nose, who are you taking to the hospital?â
âYou canât take yourself?â
âBitch?â
âKidding. Heard. What else?â
âYouâre not gonna tell her I said this because she would rather die than tell someone she wants something.â You lean closer to him, peeking over your shoulder to make sure no oneâs secretly come from the kitchen. You knock into his knees.
He takes another drag, short, choked. âSure.â
âYou were kind of a bitch about the menu.â
âThe chaos menu? She saidââ
âShe fucking lied. She lied when she said it was fine, Carm, it does not take a psychic to read Sydâs mind.â You interrupt, taking a sip of your coffee. âShe was so excited to get to build a menu, especially withââ you, ââa partner, and then you completely ditched her. And then you just made your own! Total control freak shit! Cut her out of the fun part of being head chef completely! You get to invent masterpieces and she picks out the best cheap plate? Fuck is that?â
He nods contemplatively, poking his inner cheek. âYeah, that, that makes sense. Thatâs shitty.â He turns his gaze from looking ahead to face you, hand over the bottom half of his face. âWhat else?â
âYouâre reactive.â
âNo shit.â
âHow long do you think you were locked in the walk-in for?â
He swallows, thinking. âLike⊠an hour?â
âIt had been 23 minutes.â
âOh.â
âYou catastrophize, itâs a fancy therapy word,â You cannot help but be impressed by this white man writing down the word in his phone for later. âIt means, basically, when something bad happens you blow it completely out of proportion into something it isnât. Your opening night was definitely a bummer from being in a freezerâ But be honest with yourself, would you have let yourself have a good night if you werenât in there?â
ââŠNo.â
âNo. Which is also bad. Which brings me to my key point.â
He tenses up, preparing for you to rip into him further.
âYouâre doing a good job, Carmy.â
He immediately swivels back to you, almost dropping his phone. Knee knocking into yours. âFuck off.â
âI will not.â
âYou just said I was a catastrophe.â
âFully not what I said.â
âI read between the lines.â
âCarmen.â
You take a breath, putting your arms on your knees, bent over. âThe restaurant is beautiful, your cooks are talented and theyâre preparedâ So prepared that they can handle 23 minutes without you. Thatâs a good thing. Youâre threaded into The Bearâ The ship didnât sink, not because you werenât there, but because you had been. Everyone had the tools they needed to succeed, even with Heinz, a Mid painting, and torn tape. And listenââ You take one last sip of your coffee. âYou need to check your ego if you think youâre the first man Iâve coaxed through a panic attack while doing a repair.â
He laughs, half-heartedly. He scratches his nose. âHeard. Yeah, thank you, Chef.â
âI donât know shit about the meth thing though, I really couldnât tell you.â You smile when this coaxes a better laugh out of him. Youâre considering a career in stand up exclusively for him because it feels like such a reward to hear it.
âAnd the girl?â He asks. Amusement tinging but leaving his voice.
You click your teeth, shrugging your shoulders at him. âBased purely on your hesitation to say girlfriend, Iâd say yeah, probably not ready for a relationship.â You reach your hand out to his shoulder when he flops his head down. âBut, just asking, is this your first relationship?â
He thinks for too long before nodding slightly. âFirst one.â
âFirst restaurant too?â
He nods again.
âYeah.â You pat his shoulder before letting it go, opting to hold your cooling cup. âI know youâre a Michelin star fuckinâ big deal but like, me personally, I canât name a thing I got perfect the first time I did it.â
Thereâs something in his eyes, when you say that. Something wistful, nostalgic, hurt? No. Something different.
âItâs not that I didnât do perfectââ
âYouâll do better next time.â
He wrings his hands together between his knees. âYeah.â
âYouâre gonna be fine, Carm.â
âYouâre good at that.â He sniffs, head down, scratching his nose.
âAt what? Self-help?â
He exhales what just barely sounds like a laugh. âKinda. Sâjust, when you say it, you say it in a way where I actually believe it.â
Youâre getting the fuck out of here before they open for dinner. Youâre not letting anyone down tonight motherfucker. The Berf shall prevail. Maybe a win here will feel like a win for Carmen, too.
You run the sink to wash your hands, as youâve done before hereâ But since fixing the pipes and the pressure⊠Somethingâs⊠different. You pause your scrubbing, listening closely.
âŠ
When the sink is running, the gurgling flow of water from the toilet stops. Huh. You stop and start the faucet a few times to verify this. Yeah. You stare for a long moment before connecting the dots, then punch the sink in realization.
âFucking Mikey!â
âWhatâd he do this time?â
You twist around. Ah, other sibling. Natalie. Clipboard in hand, business ready. You take a beat before remembering to smile, nodding to the sink behind you. âHe connected the tank flow to the toilet and the sink with one wire.â
She tilts her head, squinting. âWhy would he do that?â
âI suspect to save water?â You spin around, kneeling down to look behind the sink. âI think the idea was to have the sink not function when the toilet is flushing. But, it uh, well, did the reverse, kinda. Toilet doesnât function when the sink isnât running.â
âOh.â
âSo uh,â You shut the valve under the sink. âYour water bill should go down a little after this, since it wonât be running into what is an essentially a second trap pipe.â
âOh!â Did she get what you said? No. But she doesn't need to. She heard âbill should go downâ and thatâs really all she needed. âThank you!â
âNot a problem. Sâmy job.â You stand, shutting off the valve to the toilet as well. As you kneel down to work again, you feel her gaze burning into your back. You donât turn to face her. âYou have questions.â
âOh, ah⊠Am I so obviousâ?â
âYes.â Youâre too quick to answer, unbolting the wires where it attaches to the toilet and the ground. You sniff with a panicked, âAh, uh, itâs endearing.â
Sheâs quiet, for a moment. She doesnât ask you what she actually wants to ask you, and you know that. âWell, Iâll need to exchange info for your invoice.â
âAh, donât worry âbout that, your brother already covered it.â You stand once more, before going to the sink to undo itâs valve, you fish through the deep pocket of your jumpsuit, pulling out a crumpled business card and handing it to her.
âBut itâs good to have my info on hand, for sure. Itâs ah⊠Kinda old.â Kinda is an understatement. Your dadâs name is still on it, scribbled out in pen and replaced with yours. The dead business line is also scribbled out in exchange for your personal cell.
âItâs uh⊠I usually only work for friends and family, these days, so Iâve kinda stopped trying to keep up appearances.â
She smiles at it. Thank God, she finds it charming and not sloppy. She tucks it into the clasp of her clipboard. âThatâs fine, we are friends and family.â
All you can do is nod, pivoting to the sink. There's a beat of peace.
âDidnât see you at the funeral.â
Ah. There it is. For a Bear, she sure knows how to poke one. You stutter in unscrewing the bolt.
âWouldâve been nice to meet you, then.â
You clear your throat, it's strangled. âYeah, I think I was trying to avoid introductions, honestly. Grief comes in different ways, eh?â
âDoes it?â
âMine does.â You swallow, unbolting the wire. With it free, you can just yank it out of the wall. God, forgive your brain, but Mikey was right, she does like to fight. Too bad you donât.
She just hums in reply, watching you pull the wire from the wall. âYouâre a real lifesaver.â
Fuck. Fuck. Lifesaver? Is she fucking with you?
âThat toilet sprayed me right in the face, yesterday. And you saved Carmen.â Thereâs an amused lilt to her voice. Sheâs not fucking with you. âThereâs something about a handywoman that Fak cannot match.â
You can hear a faint âHey!â through the walls. You laugh through an exhale.
âAgain, sâmy job. I do my best. Did uh, what was it, Terry come by for the walk-in? I wasnât looking when I was there.â
You sort through your tools, deciding caulking the holes closed is probably the best option.
âHe came over basically overnight to fix it, bless him, still donât know his name.â
You laugh, itâs a little strangled. So Carmen did stay overnight. He mustâve. You smooth out the caulk with your thumb and a palette knife. Blending it into the grout as best as you can. âGood. Good.â
You dust yourself off. Standing. âWell. Thatâs uh. Thatâs my job done. Carmen asked me aboutââ
âBolting down the booths?â She nods, checking the time on her watch. Thereâs not enough time before lunch to do it now. Plus you donât have the screws. âYouâre free to come by in the morning tomorrowââ
âBut?â You interrupt, throwing your tool bag over your shoulder.
âBut?â
âYou said free like youâve got a preference, what do you prefer?â
She chuckles, slightly. There is something about you that feels familiar. âIf you could come after close tonight around 12, that would be niceââ
âItâs done. Iâll be there.â
âLifesaver. I'll give you the code.â
Fuck.
Always gotta give the reader/mc some sort of mysterious background that even you don't have all the info on. Always.
Hehehehe, again, we're slowing this burn so much. Strangers to Friends to lovers but they're both so comfortable in friends it's hard to move !!
Forewarning, btw, if you've already sunk 10k worth of words into your brain for me (thank you!! I hope you've enjoyed!!), I've never written smut before and I feel like I probably will not build up the courage to do so by the end of this series, but I could prove myself wrong, I dunno. But warning in case that's your thing!! I might blue ball you babe!!
Pretty please tell me your thoughts or I'll eat my Berf shirt. Collector's value!! Thrown away!!

Hello and welcome to Anna thinks they just kickstarted Eddie's queer arc and *coldplay starts to play* it was all yellow (and blue). (metas on the blue and yellow here and here if you feel like reading)
I feel like at this point I have made the point that I think Eddie's queer arc is gonna be yellow where Buck's was blue very clear (post on that here, more on the theory applied to buddie here), so I'm watching for any amount of blue or yellow around Eddie. The whole thing comes back to the way 704 is very blue and yellow and the climax of Buck's bi arc, the coming out scene since it's the one scene Buck chooses to come out, is also blue and yellow, but Buck himself is blue.
This actually starts in the locker room in 701 tho, but we have established that Buck is blue, so they are in the wrong colors. They're also in the wrong colors during the will reveal, which is interesting if they follow through it this particular symbolism the way I'm expecting them to.
The will reveal is interesting because they don't match their backgrounds the way Buck does in the coming out scene, but the backgrounds have the right colors, but I digress.
The thing is, the thing that I keep waiting to happen, happened. The sandy yellow shirt. Something about Buck's journey to blue, is that he is in darker shades of blue while Eddie is in neutral tones, mostly black, until he reaches a shade of blue that's basically the color of Oliver's eyes, so it's a brighter color.
So my working theory is that Eddie is gonna mirror that, and we will have Buck in neutral tones while Eddie finds his golden yellow, that right now I'm 90% positive will be the shade behind him in the coming out scene, but Eddie's arc will be lighter shades working up to the darker ones. And this is a promising start.
But I wanna talk about Eddie's arc on the episode. Because his arc is blue and yellow, but he's drowning in blue. Which is the wrong color. And not just because the uniforms are blue.
Something in particular that's intriguing me is the fact that they changed the waiting room of the hospital, so it is yellowish now, where it used to be a more neutral blue color.
Something else is the fact that this is the school from 504, an episode called home and away, that has "you're the guy who likes to fix things" conversation, where we actually discuss the way blood family knows you differently than a significant other. So we have a few s5 callbacks going on, and I feel like this will be a pattern, even though I don't think Eddie is in route for another full breakdown, I think deconstructing parts of who he is will have a lot of callbacks to his s5 arc.
The dialogue of the ambulance scene is very interesting too, because Eddie is talking about fixing someone's heart in less-than-ideal circumstances, and he actually manages to pull it off after some struggle. I'm probably reading too much into it, but the fifty/fifty on 2 attempts is making me đ because if we take this to the more metaphorical possible Eddie and his own heart, unless we are talking Buck, he failed all times, but it interesting to think Shannon vs Buck since Ana and Marisol where superficial relationships. Considering what we know, how young he was and the way his relationship with Shannon got to serious to fast vs the way Buck squeezed his way into his life and Eddie did take some leaps of faith in less than ideal conditions, I can see a symbolism hidden there.
The talk with Bobby is also interesting because of the whole yellowish setting and the implication that the issue can be traced to the mustache, and since we know the mustache is gonna be important for Eddie's character in the following episodes.
But the thing that had me screaming was actually the shop scene. I wrote a meta on this (you can read it here) but 911 uses blue and red for parenting issues. And the shop, the car the dad is working on, and the equipment are blue and red. And that makes sense, they are talking about parenting. Eddie is there as a father, at least at first.
And all of this is happening while Eddie is in white.
After they go outside, while Eddie is talking about being a father in a more detached manner, he is surrounded by the blue and red, even though the chair is yellow.
But while the dad is talking about his struggle understanding his kid, he is blue and yellow. This is interesting even though I don't want to sit here and say that Weston is queer just based on the fact that he's a cheerleader, because yes, the blue and yellow is used for Buck, but is also used for henren, and if we expand on the 911verse, it is also used for tarlos, so the metaphor there.
And attached to all the struggles Eddie has expectations that were placed on him, and specifically 517 where Eddie talks about his father not wanting to seem weak, and how that obviously affected the way Eddie grew up and how he moves on to defending Weston by saying he survived something he knows soldiers who wouldn't, we have something here. Because we don't have the focus on the red anymore once Eddie starts talking.
The green elements of the scene are interesting in the same way I said the orange is interesting about the birthday party (read that one here). Eddie is a green character, I feel like a lot of us associate him with army green, but if I'm right about the color theory we have going, Eddie can't live his life as a secondary color. That's where getting to his yellow comes in.
Eddie needs to move on from that. We talked a lot about the green army armor, with that jacket he wears when Shannon dies and when he leaves the 118 (first 2 pictures up here) so he needs to stop hiding behind the green. And the green is there, but it is out of focus, it's not supposed to be the main thing even tho it does take a lot of space in Eddie's frame. Mostly because you can see the yellow very clearly behind the dad, but not the green car behind Eddie, the edges are blending, which is good. He is moving in the right direction.
He also ends the episode drowning in blue again, which, yk, wrong color.
He's also in the same color he was in 506 after the whole kidnapping and yet another moment Eddie risks everything because there's a kid involved. But this time he can't go home to his kid. Someone give him Chris back right now (set on this parallel here).
So, since Buck's queer arc was blue and yellow, and Eddie just started an arc with those, I am choosing to believe they just kickstarted Eddie's queer arc.
That's all for today, if you read this I love you đ

I think something that's bothers me about how folks talk about mouthwashing is how they talk about Swansea. It's either "Swansea would have killed Jimmy immediately if Anya had told him" or "he knew and he did nothing just like curly." because, to me at least it leaves out a lot of nuance to his character and situation. Curly and Swansea are really good foils to each other, one who's got a reputation for being the kind and helpful captain but in the end does nothing to truly protect the crew from Jimmy, and one who's gruff, harsh, and cruel but genuinely tries to help in the background, the reliable mechanic.
(read more for a long Mouthwashing character ramble tw for unwanted pregnancy and SA)
Because Curly is the one with the power. He doesn't take what Jimmy did seriously enough. And you can say that he might not have known fully what Jimmy did, but I think the "I told you" pregnancy conversation and his reaction to Jimmy right before the crash ("come on we'll get through this together. We'll figure it out, you've had hard times before-") are indicators that he knew, but he still chose to stick by his friend and treat it like a "mistake" rather than what it really was.
Now that's my own personal speculation of course, there's no outright scene of her telling him "your best friend assaulted me", but I think there's enough evidence in game through Anya and Curlys interactions to say that he knew, and he knew before Anaya knew she was pregnant. He had a fully functioning ship and four fully functional cryo-pods. He could have at least given Anya more security, kept her far away from him, and at most forced him into the cryopod until they got back to earth. Jimmy STILL had full, uncontrolled access to the cockpit AFTER his freakout with curly. AFTER Anya tells curly she doesn't feel safe with him. AFTER Curly finds out he raped Anya. He's so focused on seeing the good in his friend that he does NOTHING to protect Anya, doesn't strip away not one of Jimmy powers as copilot and consequently endangers her and the rest of the crew.
Curly was the captain, he had the power to relegate Jimmy to the fucking storage closet if he really wanted, at least put him in the cryopod until they got back to earth. In fact, he was the only person above Jimmy in terms of rank on the ship, but he chose to do nothing. He chose to let Jimmy continue as acting co-pilot, chose to comfort him rather than actually confront him. Slides off his weird sexual comments as jokes "So what's this about horses?"
Now let's compare that to Swansea, the mechanic.
We don't have any evidence that Swansea knew about what Jimmy did until after the crash ("it's been her telling me things") where they were trapped with no captain, barely any rations, and a single cryopod that he kept hidden away in the one room he had the key too (and the only room that could lead into medbay). He didn't use it for himself, he makes it clear he didn't intend on getting off this hunk of metal in his last few conversations with Jimmy.
Swansea as the ship's mechanic, was used to fixing things in the background. He didn't need to get along with anyone to keep the ship running, he didn't need people to like him to keep them safe. We see that with Daisuke. He's harsh on him, for sure, but he leaves constant notes to help him learn. Genuinely tries to keep him out of harm's way when it comes to more dangerous jobs. We know Anya was scared of Jimmy getting a weapon, she hid the gun case in the medical bay even knowing she would never get it open. We can see Swansea and Anya off on their own towards the first days after the crash, and Swansea still has a tight grip of the axe weeks and months later.
I personally think that was him trying to keep Jimmy from having access to a weapon. The only time Jimmy gets the axe while Swansea is alive is when Anya Specifically asks him to use it to get medical supplies. I don't think that's a coincidence.
Swansea, like any good mechanic, was quietly trying to keep things running out of Jimmy's sight. It's not until everyone is dead or dying that he snaps, that he finally takes direct action. But it was too little too late.
Both Curly and Swansea thought they were doing the right thing, helping in their own way. Curly genuinely wanted to see the good in Jimmy, wanted it to just be some challenge they could overcome, but in doing so he failed to see the monster right in front of him. He had all the power (in context of the crew, the company is a whole other can of worms I have so many other thoughts on), but he was too afraid to use it. Hell, he was DISCOURAGED to use it if the memo about HR complaints are anything to go by. Swansea, on the other hand, never trusted Jimmy, never even really liked him, but he didn't want to make anything worse either. He didn't know what would actually set Jimmy off, or what he was capable of, and aside from just straight up killing him what else could he do that wouldn't just push Jimmy further off the edge? Like with the foam. "One wrong move and you'll rip this ship a new asshole", he worked carefully, hiding the last pod from Jimmy, keeping the only other weapon on himself, guarding the only other entrance into Medbay, but Jimmy was escalating quickly. He underestimated how far Jimmy was willing to go, just like Curly had, and in the end suffered the consequences.
The only character who actually understood how dangerous and unstable Jimmy was is Anya. She knew the moment she found out she was pregnant he would hurt her ("you won't let me protect myself"). He wouldn't be able to take it, he would do something drastic. She knew he was escalating the longer they were stranded. Anya is the only crew member who truly understood how dangerous Jimmy was and took direct action.
And interesting thing to me is that she doesn't just kill herself. She locks herself in the medbay. She could have waited for Jimmy to sleep, or locked herself in the cockpit, but she locked herself in the medbay with Curly. She knows that with her gone there would be no one left to take care of him, she knew Jimmy would continue to escalate his abuse, and with her gone all of his anger and fear and guilt would turn on Curly.
And wouldn't you know it? She was right. Without Anya to stop him, he takes curly out of the bed, forces him upright into the cryopod, and forces a man with no skin, no arms, no legs, and infected tissues to be frozen for 20 years while the rest of his crew Rot. And that's only what we know to be reality- if any of his delusions had some basis in reality he could have done so so much more. Anya is the Only one to take reasonable, direct action to keep herself, and then Curly, safe.
But she didn't have enough power over Jimmy to truly protect herself. She didn't have the code to the gun case, she didn't have a weapon or a rank to fall back on. She was outnumbered by men who she knew from experience either wouldn't or couldn't keep her safe, and she was heavily pregnant with a baby she didn't want and most likely couldn't even get enough nutrients to sustain either her or the fetus. She was physically weakened and trapped in a stranded ship with her abuser with no way home and a medical miracle (curse) in Curly.
This game is a really good reflection of reality, in my opinion as an abuse survivor. Some people will see them as "one of the boys" and constantly excuse or downplay their actions (Curly), some people will do small things in the background, recognize the abuse and disprove, but don't want to get in the way or make things worse (Swansea), and some people are just straight up oblivious/naive (Daisuke). But in the end, it's the system that allows abuse and incentives coverups to keep peace or save face that really allows abuse to fester and escalate.
Which is why I personally have a problem with the idea that Anya should have just Told A Different Man because it ignores the very real chain of power and her own agency in her story, AS WELL AS the idea that Swansea and Diasuke knew but didn't care because that's just not reflective of real life. Not every man is some rapist apologist who doesn't care what abusers do until it happens to them, some people just don't know what to do, or don't have any good options that wouldn't result in further abuse. Hell some people just don't even fucking notice! Not everyone has had exposure to the signs or knows what to look for.
It's easy when looking at fictional depictions of abuse to say "well if I was there I would have just punched him/killed him/called the police" but real life, in that moment, its never going to be clear cut. You can call out abuse, but that might just lead to that abuser taking it out on their abuse victim later. They could even start to target you for daring to speak out, or try to hurt you and cut you off from the person being abused. You can know all the right steps and the right programs, but in the moment, when faced with a real situation where someone could get hurt or even killed? You stumble. You think things over, you don't try and make any direct moves that would set their abusers off. Sometimes that's a good instinct, and sometimes that just lets abuse escalate. It's never a good situation, and it's never actually anyone's fault but the abusers. And this way of thinking also conveniently leaves out the survivor of this abuse, and portrays them as someone who needs to be saved, rather than someone who needs support and resources to save themselves. It also very conveniently lets the company that Put Anya in this situation in the first place get off Scott free.
The solution isn't "oh one of the men on board should have personally killed Jimbo and saved Anya all by himself" its "Anya deserved the support of her crewmates instead of being forced into close proximity with her rapist and also maybe Jimmy shouldn't have access to the fucking controls or medbay or any weapons- AND ALSO the crew shouldn't have financial incentives not to report things to HR"
#yall thought this was a curly and swansea analysis?#nope got distracted with Anya#my beloved đđ#i just dont like the very black and white analysis ive seen going around#the nuance of this game and their situation is truly the best part#i also think the men of the crew and centered too much in discussions of Anyas assault#mouthwashing#anya mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#swansea mouthwashing#stari wont shut up#yall take a shot everytime i said escalate wtf#read a thesaurus or something me. damn

HELLO !! c:

could it also have a colouring scene
c:<
[đ„€đ©č] the perfect picture | matt & chris sturniolo one-shot
paring : cg!matt sturniolo x fem!little!reader x cg!chris sturniolo
summary : matt and chris are a bit worried about their little one, but she's just busy making the perfect picture!
warning/extra tid-bits : use of y/n, i think that's all!
word count : 722 + not proofread
divider credit : umm i found all the photos on pinterest :3 (crayons doodles from @thecutestgrotto, AREN'T THEY ADORABLE??)
a/n : dishing these out like hot cakes!! (not proof read, i'm just a girl!)
Matt let out a content sigh, leaning back on the couch and closing his eyes. The house had been so calm and quiet today that he really felt-
Wait.
The house had been so calm and quiet.
The brunette boy stood up from his spot on the couch, quickly examining the living room and the kitchen for any sign of his little- only to find none. âBaby?â He called out, trying his best not to panic.Â
Matt waited a few moments for a reply before rushing upstairs to Chrisâ room, his heart sinking when he only found his brother. âDude! Ever heard of knocking?!â Chris said, annoyed.Â
âWhereâs Y/n?â Matt asked seriously, his tone causing Chrisâ eyebrows to furrow. âI thought she was with you!â The youngest triplet said, standing up off his bed. Matt shook his head, âNo, I thought she was with you!â Matt argued back.
Both brothers stood silently for a few moments before taking off out of the youngest tripletâs room, opening up any door, checking behind or under any Y/n-sized hiding spot.Â
âSweetheart?!â Chris called out, bounding down the stairs to check Mattâs room as the other caregiver checked behind the curtain of the bathtub.
Nick looked up, his neck aching slightly from how long heâd been helping you shade in the background of the picture youâd asked for Nickâs help coloring.Â
âAre they calling for you?â He asked, you blinked up at Nick before shrugging. âDonâ want them to see until âm done.â You murmured- words muffled through your pacifier.Â
Nick nodded, standing up and ruffling your hair before walking out his room, coming face to face with both his brothers.Â
âIs Y/n in there?â Chris asked, already reaching to open Nickâs door. âIs she?â Matt rushed his response. Nick stuck his arm in the way of Chris and Matt, blocking his younger brothers from opening his bedroom door.
âShe is, weâre working on something to show you.â The eldest triplet explained, both caregivers breathed out sighs of relief- relieved to know their little was at least in the house.Â
âWait, what?â Chris asked, processing his older brother's words. Matt nodded- equally as curious.
âDonâ tell them Nicky!â Y/n yelled out from inside the room, earning a soft chuckle from Nick. âCanât tell you guys, sorry.â Nick said before slipping back into his room- ignoring the protests from Chris and Matt.
The two caregivers stood outside the door, thinking for a few moments.Â
âShould we be worried?â Chris asked, breaking the silence. Matt thought for a few moments before responding, â...Only mildly.â
Inside Nickâs room, the little was giggling away as she added details to each and every one of her doodles of her caregivers. âNicky,â She called out, causing the eldest triplet to turn his head to face the little.
âHelp.â She said, pointing to Chrisâ figure. âHelp with that?â Nick asked gently, examining the girl's crayon marks. âDâaw a hat, peasâ.â She requested, making Nick smile brightly.
âOkay, letâs draw a hat.â He smiled, grabbing his pen from his nightstand and beginning on a baseball cap.Â
Soon, the perfect picture was complete- much to Nick and Y/nâs delightment. âDaddy! Papa!â Y/n called out, bounding down the stairs despite knowing it was against the rules to rush up and down the stairs.
Chris and Matt looked up from their phones, smiling brightly at the sight of their little. âWhat is it, sweetheart?â Matt asked, earning a soft giggle from the regressed girl.Â
âLook!â She smiled, proudly presenting the drawing to both her caregivers.Â
It was a crayon drawing with some details outlined in pen- thanks to Nick. The drawing showcased Chris, Matt, Nick and Y/n standing outside their Boston house, playing in the leaves. Chris adorned a red baseball cap with a gray hoodie, Matt was sporting a baggy sweater and an equally baggy pair of pants. It was clear Nick was wearing his famous black and red sweater, and it appeared Y/n was wearing a flowy maxi dress.
âOh babyâŠâ Chris smiled, overly proud of his girl. âNicky helped! Buâ I colored mostâa it!â She excitedly told her caregivers- earning even more praise.Matt and Chris hugged their girl tightly, Nick joining in not long after. Each triplet was careful not to crush the perfect picture.

your fingers trace the outline of freckles on his arm as he talks about a memory from your past. the soft murmur of his voice blends with the steady rhythm of the waves outside, each sound wrapping around you like a lullaby. thereâs no clear distinction between his words, just a gentle hum of familiarity and warmth, like heâs telling you something only the two of you could ever understand.
you can feel the warmth of his skin beneath your fingertips, the slight shiver that follows each brush as if heâs waiting for you to react, to smile at whatever joke heâs just made.
and you do. you always do.
it feels easy, like breathing, like everything else fades away in this moment.
youâre both lying there, tangled up in each other, the world outside irrelevant. his voice is like the background music of a song you never want to end, and the smile in his tone is contagious, making your heart flutter in a way that feels like home.
and in this space, youâre in love. youâre safe. thereâs no distance, no secrets, no hurtâjust you and him, where time doesnât seem to exist. it feels perfect, endless, like nothing could ever come between you.
his hand finds yours, and you smileâbecause here, in this place, nothing else matters but the two of you.
but thatâs not your life.
the warmth of his skin beneath your fingers feels too real, too perfectâyet thereâs a gnawing sensation in your chest, a quiet voice whispering that this canât be right. you pause, staring into his eyes as they flicker with life, his laughter still echoing in your ears. and then, just like that, it hits you.
âthis isnât real . . .â you murmur, the words slipping from your lips like a confession, soft and sad.
the moment shatters, and you wake up with a start, eyes blinking into the early morning light. for a second, your heart races, still tethered to that dream. but as you take in the quiet room around you, reality sinks in like a heavy weight.
drew lies next to you, sound asleep. his breathing is slow, peaceful, completely unaware of the storm brewing in your chest. his face looks calm, almost serene, and for a moment, you canât tear your eyes away. you wish things could be this easyâsimple, like they were in the dream.
if only he knew what you know.
after making that sundae with leila last nightâpast midnight, no lessâyou thought youâd be able to shake off everything that happened, but it just made you feel worse. the messages you saw on drewâs phone replayed in your mind, over and over, refusing to let you find any peace.
now itâs morning, and as you drag yourself out of bed, you already feel exhausted. your eyes are gritty, head foggy, and the sun through the windows of the house feel too bright, too warmâtoo much. you rub your eyes as you shuffle down the stairs, hearing the chatter of everyone gathered in the kitchen for breakfast.
everyoneâs already there, looking refreshed. giaâs laughter rings out from the kitchen, and you catch leilaâs voice, animated as always, chatting with theo. theyâre all gathered around the kitchen island, passing plates of food aroundâscrambled eggs, toast, fruit. the smell of coffee hits you, and you could almost cry from how much you need it.
leila notices you first. âgood morning, sleepyhead!â she greets with a wide grin. âwe were wondering when you were gonna wake up. thereâs plenty of food leftâgrab something!â
you give a tired half-smile, barely lifting your head as you mumble, âmorning.â your voice sounds flat, even to yourself, and you trudge over to the counter, grabbing a cup of coffee first before anything else.
theo leans back in his chair, eyeing you. âlate night?â
you nod, stifling a yawn as you pour your coffee. âsomething like that.â
leila doesnât miss a beat, already steering the conversation to her plans. âso, now that weâre all here, iâve got some exciting news,â she says, âtheo booked us a reservation at this amazing restaurant in town tonight, the pearl. weâre talking grandâso dress up nice!â she claps her hands together, clearly excited about the idea.
the group is enthusiasticâgiaâs already asking what she should wear, and romanâs grumbling about having to dress up, which earns him a jab from libby. you sip your coffee, trying to focus, but everything feels like itâs happening at a distance.
ây/n you okay with that? dinner?â leila asks, pulling you into the conversation.
you glance up at her, blinking through the haze. âyeah, sure,â you reply. âsounds fun.â
she narrows her eyes at you, noticing the lack of enthusiasm in your voice. âyou sure? you seem a little out of it.â
you force another smile, trying to shake off the sluggish feeling. âjust tired. iâll be fine.â
gia chimes in from her seat, giggling as she steals a slice of toast. âmaybe you just need more coffee.â
you nod, lifting your mug in agreement. âdefinitely.â
the conversation continues without you as everyone starts talking about what theyâll wear tonight, throwing out outfit ideas and making plans for the day. drew is sitting across the table, looking as refreshed as everyone else, laughing along with them. but you canât bring yourself to look at him for long.
he catches your eye across the table. he looks at you with a soft, questioning expression, maybe sensing somethingâs off. you glance away before he can say anything, focusing on your coffee again, but you curse under your breath when out of the corner of your eye you can see him get up from his seat.
he slides into the chair next to you, a casual smile on his face. âstarted the trip off with a pool day, and now weâre heading to the pearl for dinner,â he says, glancing at the table where leilaâs organized a small checklist on her notes app. âleilaâs really in planning mode.â
you manage a half-hearted nod, feeling the fatigue settle deeper into your bones.
âhey,â he continues, his tone light, âyou okay? you seem a littleââ
youâre already over it. before he can finish, you drop your piece of toast back onto the plate, the sound cutting through the chatter around you. without another word, you push back your chair and get up, taking your coffee with you. the othersâ voices fade behind you as you walk away, the tension in your chest tightening.
drew looks after you, brow furrowed, and glances at leila, whoâs the only other person who even notices your behavior. confusion lines his features as he points to you while looking at her, like asking if she has any idea whatâs up with you.
leila shakes her head in response, but glances up at you walking up the stairs in concern. drew seems unconvinced, but he nods, turning back to the table as you disappear upstairs. and youâre grateful for the distance, even if just for a moment.

as you step into the pearl, the warm glow of the lights and the soft murmur of waves greet you. leila and theo lead the way, their laughter weaving through the air as they navigate the restaurant. you grip drewâs hand reluctantly as you follow the group.
the server guides you to a table outside, and your breath catches at the sight: the seaside view stretches out before you, waves crashing gently against the rocks. a delicate black metal arch hangs above the table, draped with twinkling lights that flicker like stars. a large, lush plant sways in the cool evening breeze, and youâre in awe.
you take your seat at the outer corner of the table, next to drew. the space feels too open, and you can feel his gaze on you as you fidget with your napkin, trying to ignore the way your stomach knots.
as the conversations flow around you, he leans in, propping his elbow on the table to speak to you privately. âwhatâs going on with you?â he asks, âand you canât use the tired excuse anymore. youâve had loads of coffee this morning.â
you glance at him, caught off guard by the directness of his question. but take a breath, searching for the right words. all you can manage is a small shrug. âiâm fine. seriously. donât worry about it.â
you wish you could sound more convincing as the server approaches, placing a beautifully plated dish in front of you. relief washes over you; at least you can focus on the food for now.
theo suddenly clears his throat, drawing everyoneâs attention. âi just want to say how grateful i am that everyone is here to celebrate with us before i marry this beautiful woman,â he gestures to leila, who frowns as she presses a kiss to his cheek. as the table raises their glasses, you join in but feel somewhat disconnected, and shut out the rest of theoâs short speech until youâre able to eat.
as everyone digs in, gia reaches across the table, poking at her food. ây/n, do you want this?â she holds up a piece of grilled zucchini.
drew interjects before you can respond. ây/n doesnât like zucchini,â he says casually as he cuts into his food, and you look at him with furrowed brows.
âoh, right.â gia laughs, realization hitting her. âi always mix you two up.â she turns to libby, whoâs already reaching her plate across the table.
giaâs cheeks grow red as she giggles, and you continue to watch drew. your eyes meet briefly, but thereâs an unspoken barrier between you, so you quickly look away, picking at your food instead.
eventually he even seems lost in thought, his gaze fixed on giaâs plate as he dazes out. roman, sitting across from you, catches on. he leans forward slightly, studying the table as if trying to read the tension, but you notice his motor.
âwhat are you doing?â you mouth to him.
roman raises an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. he glances at gia, then back at the rest of you, sensing the unspoken words hanging in the air. he knows something is up between you and drew but decides to keep quiet, because if no one else is saying anything about it, why should he?
and you understand exactly that. you roll your eyes before returning to your food.
âi could die for this garlic bread,â leila groans as she breaks a piece off and eats it. just from hearing it, theo reaches over to take a piece.
you hum as you reach your hand over, and drew grabs a piece for you when he realizes what you want. just as you sit back against your seat, a server from a nearby table accidentally brushes against you as they rushed by, a full glass of red wine slipping from their hand.
time seemed to slow as the glass tumbled, spilling its contents directly onto your lap. your mouth is gaped open and your eyes clamp shut as some of the wine bounces off and hits you directly in your face too.
the others gasp as they stare at you in horror.
âoh my gââ the server exhales, eyes wide with panic. âi am so sorry! iâm so, so sorry!â
youâre frozen for a moment, the cool liquid spreading across your dress, soaking through the fabric. you feel the weight of everyoneâs eyes on you, and thereâs a rush of embarrassment washing over you.
âperfect,â you mutter under yourself as you try to maintain your composure. âjust what i needed.â
the server continues to apologize profusely, almost stumbling over their words. âiâll get you some napkins! please, let me help!â
âitâs fine,â you tell him, forcing a smile despite the discomfort. âjust . . . give me a moment.â
as you stand up, the chair scrapes loudly against the ground, and you can feel the wine seeping down your torso. you quickly glance at drew, who looks alarmed, his fork mid-air.
ây/n,â gia calls to you, but youâre already moving toward the doors, desperate to find a restroom.
âjust let her go,â roman says quietly, sensing the tension still simmering beneath the surface. gia is worried as she watches you disappear inside the building.
drew rises from his seat and tosses his napkin onto his seat, pulling his sleeves up before hurrying into the restaurant to find you. meanwhile the server is urgently trying to clean your seat but frowns at the stained floors.
just as you reach the restroom, he catches up, breathless and urgent. you feel like groaning when you feel like you just canât catch a break. ây/n! hey, wait,â he calls out to you, sliding past a man who tries to return to his table. âsorry.â
you halt, irritation surging. âwhat? what, what? what do you want?â your voice is strong and sharp, turning around to face him.
he stops in front of you and winces at the stains on your clothes, and he glances up at the doors of the restrooms when he realizes you probably should clean it off your arms and chest at least.
âi know youâre upset, butââ he begins, concern lacing his words.
âupset? you think thatâs all it is?â you snap back, meeting his gaze. you actually feel insane with every word you release. âyou donât understand what this feels like.â
he looks confused, searching your eyes for clarity. âwhat?â
taking a deep breath to calm yourself as best as you can, you continue, âdo you have any idea how humiliating it is to notice everyone stop talking and feel their eyes on you? and the moment you do get up and walk past them, all you can hear are their murmurs and whispers about howâ how embarrassing this all is? itâs suffocating!â
he opens his mouth to respond, but you press on, frustration spilling out. âand itâs not even just about tonight. itâs about how it feels to find out your own fake boyfriend is keeping secrets from you and has been this whole time.â
his expression freezes, shock washing over his face. âwhat? keeping what from you?â
you consider your choices for a second before stepping forward to reach into his back pocket, but there he reactsâas swift as ever. like he has something to hide. and he does.
he grabs a hold of his phone before you can and when you look up at him, you can feel the guilt in his eyes. but seeing that doesnât hurt you as much as it does when you understand how fast he is to keep his phone away from you.
you take a step back and feel yourself falter. tears well in your eyes as you watch the way he grips his phone like suddenly it matters to him. it never has before. and you know why it does now.
âso you do know what iâm talking about,â your voice is quiet, a mix of betrayal in your tone that causes drew to reach out to you to say âwaitâ.
âwhen in the last year did you turn into a child?â you whisper to him, a faint scoff leaving your lips as you stand before him. youâre confronting him in a hallway of a restaurant for crying out loud.
âwhen you make a plan with your ex-girlfriend, you make sure there isnât somebody already waiting for you back home. you donât get close to me while weâre here and you donât keep it from me the whole time . . . i mean, when were you going to tell me? or tell mila?â
he shakes his head slowly, âiâm getting close with you for the others, remember? thatâs our plan.â
âthen you shouldnât hold me and hug me when itâs just us, drew.â
his heart drops at the sound of his name, the familiarity twisting into something more painful in this moment. ây/nââ
âno, donât ây/nâ me,â you cut him off, your voice rising. âyou canât just play both sides. if youâre going to keep secrets from me, then donât pretend like weâre something weâre not when the rules donât apply. itâs clearly more than just showing out in front of leila and everyone when itâs just us.â
âbut itâs not like that,â he insists, his eyes searching yours for understanding. âweâre trying to make this work for everyone else!â
âfor everyone else? or for yourself?â you ask him. âbecause i swear to you, if i had known mila existed, never in this universe would i have ever agreed to the plan. because it hurts all three of us. do you understand?â
you wait for him to say somethingâanything, but youâre not surprised when he just stares at you with the same look in his eyes.
itâs too much. way too much. and you still have so many things to say.
are you betrayed that your ex-boyfriend has someone new? are you even able to be mad at that?
âwas it worth it?â your voice cracks as you struggle to get the words out. âi keep asking myself, was it worth it to feel so alive, even if it led to this? or would it have been easier if this just never happened at all and we just told them instead of doing all of this for fucking nothing.â

đ RID Stressed Bumblebee X Cybertronian Reader
Notes: I've been currently rewatching RID, when I was younger I didn't finish it. It's not as bad as I remember it being. I usually have it playing in the background when I'm working on something but I kind of love it. And I just love this version of Bumblebee. He's just a silly little guy doing his best. I think the only reason I didn't like this version is because I watched TFP first and that gives a person high expectations.Â
Word count -Â 4,083
Page Number - 10.7 (How? This was meant to be short and sweet.)
I've noticed Bumblebee's been far more quiet lately. I didn't think too much of it until Bumblebee snapped at Strongarm and Sideswipe for never listening to him. Yes, he yells at them for bickering from time to time, but this time was different. His voice was louder, scarier even. As he left the scene I could see his hands trembling, smoke practically coming out of his receptors. I followed him to try and talk about what was bothering him.Â
Before leaving I reassured the others that Bee was probably just having an off day and to forgive his actions. I slowly followed after to see what was wrong but I knew I had to be patient since he was obviously going through something.
    "Wanna talk about it?"
The yellow autobot stopped in his tracks when he heard my voice, letting out a frustrated sigh before looking back at me He was clearly pissed off, but he was able to calm down once he saw it was me.
"I'm fine," he said, voice harsh and stern but his eyes said otherwise, they were filled with stress and worry.
"How about we leave base for a bit and go for a little drive? I know a place that'll help clear your mind a bit. You'll love it." I smiled warmly hoping he'd come around.Â
Bumblebee looked down at me, his optics slowly softening as he let out a small sigh and nodded. He still looked as stressed as ever, but at the promise of some time away from everyone, he'd feel much better.
"Yeah, sure...I could use a drive right now," he said in a low tone.
"Alright let's go then. I told the others we'd be gone for a while." Me and Bee transformed and I started leading us to our destination.
Bumblebee followed driving in silence beside me, not saying a word. It had been a while since the two of us were able to be alone like this, so it seemed he slowly became more relaxed. I would usually try playing around or racing with him, but I knew he wasn't in the mood so we kept driving silently. He was in a bad mood so of course I wouldn't play around. I just understood his need to get away for a bit. After another 20 minutes of driving, he spoke up, "...Where exactly are we going?"
"You'll see soon. It's a surprise, but you'll love it. It's just what you need."
Bumblebee let out a small sigh but didn't object. He trusted me enough and if I said he would love this place, he would. He continued to follow me, now curious about where I was taking him.
I turned onto an old backroad that led into the forest. The road was hardly visible so it was easy to pass up if you weren't looking for it. It led to a beautiful pond that was fed by a creek. The water was beautiful and clear completely untouched by humans. It was surrounded by trees and the waterfall on the far side across from us made the sight even more unworldly.
"How do you like it? I found it about a month ago when patrolling."
Bumblebee stared in awe the moment we both made it to the pond. He seemed speechless as he slowly transformed back and walked over to the edge of the pond, eyes wide as they gazed upon the water.
        "....I-Its..I..."
He couldn't find the words for it, he just kept staring at the water, a small smile appearing on his face as all the stress seemed to slowly melt away.
"I figured you needed to relax and this is the best place I could think of." I looked away from the water and back at him.
Bumblebee finally managed to look away from the pond to look back at me. His optics held a gleam to them as the smile stayed on his face, he seemed thankful.Â
"I..Yeah.This is exactly what I needed...I can't believe a place like this even exists here..." He spoke, finally finding his voice. He walked closer and pulled me into a tight hug taking me by surprise.Â
He held me close wrapping his arms around my body almost holding too tightly. He let out a small sigh as he closed his eyes. I could feel how tense and wound up his body was, holding himself together at the base in front of the others had left him exhausted.Â
"Let's sit down and relax here for a while." I offered.
Bumblebee silently nodded in response. Then laid down on his back, letting out a relieved sigh as he stretched out a bit in the grass. He patted the spot beside him, gesturing for me to come lay with him.
I smiled and quickly joined him. "So do you wanna talk about it? If you don't I understand."
He looked at me as I lay beside him, he reached out an arm and pulled me closer to him so I was pressed up against his side. He stayed quiet for a while, just staring up at the sky above.
Finally, he let out a sigh "I have a lot on my mind, I don't think you even want to hear it." He mumbled, his eyes still looking up at the sky
I looked up at him with a worried expression. "You know you can tell me anything. And I'll just keep it between you and me."
Bumblebee hesitantly looked away from the sky and back down at me. His eyes slowly became softer as he saw the worry in my expression. He carefully rolled onto his side, facing me instead of the sky. He was quiet for a moment before he spoke, "...Sometimes it just gets too much, you know? Trying to keep everyone in line, keeping everyone from getting into trouble, keeping everyone safe... It's tiring, I feel like I'm failing.."
"Oh Bee." I sigh. "You do so much for us and overwork yourself. You're not failing. You're new to this and you're still learning. Being a leader is hard, I could only imagine how hard it can be."
Bumblebee slowly nodded as he tried to look anywhere other than my eyes, feeling a sense of shame and disappointment in himself for not doing better.
"Sometimes it doesn't feel that way, especially when it seems like everyone just keeps ignoring me. They don't take anything I say or do seriously.." His voice became bitter as memories of the others came to the forefront of his mind.
"They're young, foolish, and a bit annoying at times. But, over time the team will get better I know it. And you always have me around to help."
Bumblebee's optics slightly widened at my words, and a feeling of warmth spread through his chest as he looked down at you again. He reached out and placed a hand on my cheek, gently caressing it with his thumb.
"I don't know what I would do without you...You're the only one who listens and I wish the others understood. How did I get so lucky to have someone so caring and understanding like you?"
I blushed and looked away. "I-it's nothing, I just care about you is all," I said super awkwardly.
Bumblebee chuckled when he noticed my obvious blushing, finding it cute how awkward I was in this situation. He moved his hand up to my chin and gently tilted my head to make me look him in the eyes, a small smirk on his face.
"It's definitely not nothing. You're everything. But you're adorable when you're nervous, you know that?"
"Stop, this isn't about me. We're here for you." I said changing the subject, but I was right.
He smirked as he saw how flustered I got due to his words, he decided to drop the subject but he loved getting me flustered like that. He rolled back onto his back and wrapped an arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him.
"Alright, alright. We don't have to talk about that...but there is another thing I wanna talk about if you're up for it.. " he said in a serious tone.
    "What is it?"
Bumblebee's optics shifted away from me as his arm tightened around me, he was clearly nervous about what he was about to say. "It's about...how I feel about you, I guess. But I don't know if it's a good time to bring it up, I don't want to ruin anything, I just-"
    "...Just what?"
Bumblebee's cheeks had a slight blue tint to them seeing my flushed expression unable to look me in the eyes.
"I just... I have feelings for you- I have for a while now, but I felt unsure about whether it would actually be a good idea to say anything or not. I-I don't wanna ruin what we have-" He said in a low tone, his voice becoming more nervous the more he spoke.
"I'm glad. I was worried mine were one-sided. I like you too Bee." I was barely able to get out.
For a moment, Bumblebee's optics widened as he heard those words, a look of surprise on his face. "Wait...Really? You like me too? I didn't think this would happen, I thought it was one-sided-"
"Y-yeah, I love ya Bee. I covered my mouth. "It's scary to actually say that out loud."
A large smile appeared on Bumblebee's face and his optics shone brightly with happiness as he heard those 3 words.Â
"I love you too," He said, his voice softer and full of love as he spoke.
My spark could just explode from joy. "You look better now that you're smiling. I missed it."
Bumblebee chuckled as he heard me say that, he was still smiling, it was a smile that refused to go away anytime soon. He suddenly let out an amused hum, his smile turned into a smirk.
"Oh, so you like my smile, do you?" He teased, his grip on me becoming a tad bit tighter.
    "Of course, I do Sweetspark."
Bumblebee's smirk turned into a soft smile again at that cute nickname, he let out a small sigh of contentment.Â
"I like it when you call me that," He mumbled, "Sweetspark...Has a nice sound to it"
"You'll definitely have to get used to it then."
"Oh, I'll get used to it just fine, as long as you're the one saying it." He said, optics gently looking down at my lips.
I leaned over and gently gave him what I knew he wanted. I gave him a gentle loving kiss.
Bumblebee's hand slowly slid down to my waist to pull me closer. When I suddenly leaned forward and kissed him, his optics widened briefly before they slowly drifted shut. He let out a small sigh against my lips and slowly deepened the kiss.
Once we pulled apart I prepped his neck and face with kisses. "I've wanted to do that for the longest time."
Bumblebee chuckled at my cute gesture, letting out a hum of contentment as I peppered his face with kisses. His optics slowly fluttered closed once again as he tilted his head to the side to give me more access to his neck. He let out another soft sigh as my lips left a trail of gentle kisses on his neck.
"Careful-" he mumbled, a hint of a teasing tone in his voice "-I might get addicted to this, you know."
    "I wouldn't mind that."
"As much as I want this to continue, I think we should probably head back to base before the others get worried. As much as I want to keep you all to myself."
"Fine. Since you can't stand being around me." I said sarcastically.
"Don't make it sound like that, you know I enjoy being with you." He smirked as he gently tapped my nose with his finger as if he was trying to get a rise out of me.
"I just like to play with you sometimes." I quickly gave him another kiss before standing up.
Bumblebee rolled his optics but he didnât mind this little back and forth between the two of you. He let out a sigh as I stood up and slowly sat up from the ground. A small smirk appeared on his face as he held a hand up to me.
        "Help me up will ya?"
I squinted my eyes at him feeling he had something planned but I decided against it and gave him a hand.
Bumblebee chuckled at the look I gave him, he could tell I knew something was up but decided not to question it and just helped him up. When I grabbed his hand, he quickly used the opportunity to pull me down onto his lap.
"I figured you would do that."
Bumblebee chuckled and wrapped an arm around my waist to keep me sitting in his lap, he looked at me with a teasing smile on his face. "And yet you still fell for it"
"Because maybe I didn't mind it."
"Mhm? You didn't mind, eh? So if I did this, you wouldn't mind that either right?" He teased, as he reached a hand up to my chin to tilt my head down closer to his face.
"Aww, did you want another kiss before we left?"
Your faces were so close, that the tips of your noses were almost touching. He chuckled, his optics looking down at my lips again before looking back into my eyes again
"Yes, very much so. If you would give me another one."
I quickly gave him a light almost fleeting kiss. "Now as much as I'd love to make out here in the woods by this beautiful pond, like you said we should probably head back."
"Mhm, youâre right. We can continue this later back at base...if you want to, of course" He said with a playful wink.Â
"Alright, then letâs get going then. The longer we sit here, the longer we have to wait to continue this later" I said before I lightly punched his shoulder before standing up.
I transforming transformed and revved my engine.
"Wanna race back?" I asked playfully.
"A race? Hm.. let's see if you can actually keep up with me"
I quickly drove off leaving him in my smoke. "Let's see if you're right."
Bumblebee let out an amused gasp as I suddenly took off, the smirk on his face widened into a cheeky grin. "Cheater!-" he yelled out, revving his engine again to speed up. He quickly gained speed and raced after me.
I didn't let up and raced back to base. "You're gonna have to do better than that Sweetspark."
Bumblebee huffed in annoyance at my words. He revved his engine once more and suddenly sped up, pulling up right beside me.Â
"Oh, you're going to get it when we get back to base, you know-"
I'm glad he couldn't see my blush. "Uh-huh. We'll have to see."
He was enjoying the banter as he kept up the speed to stay right beside me. "You're not gonna be saying that when I have you all to myself later," he teased, increasing speed easily pulling ahead of me.
"B-bee." I wined in embarrassment and accidentally slowed down enough for him to pass me.
Bumblebee noticed my small stutter and the fact that I had suddenly slowed down enough to let him pull ahead. "Oh? Whatâs the matter? Did that comment get you all embarrassed? Hm-"
"Shut up." I stuttered out only adding to my embarrassment. I was happy we were close to base. But I tried to speed up and beat him to save myself some face.
He noticed me trying to speed up and beat him to base, so he suddenly sped up as well to keep himself in front of me.
"Ah ah! No chance!" He shouted back. He was enjoying every second of this, especially making me stutter from embarrassment.
We reached base with Bee ahead of me at least a full car length. I drifted into base and transformed back gracefully but still blushing from him comments. Once he transformed back to bot mode, he leaned against the wall and looked at me.Â
"And you said you could keep up with me"
"Well, better the most can." I shrugged.
"Mhm, doesn't matter though. You still lost" He teased, a smirk still on his face as he gently grabbed my waist to pull me closer to him.
"Guess we'll have to do it again another time and get a rematch." I leaned up and kissed his cheek since he was already so close.
"A rematch sounds nice, I'm up for it whenever you are"
I noticed the two younger bots and jumped a bit in embarrassment. Bumblebee was about to say something when he saw my sudden reaction and followed my gaze, he looked over to the side and saw both Strongarm and Sideswipe not too far from where we were. His optics widened for a moment and he realized they saw everything.
I pulled away and cleaned myself off awkwardly. "H-hay guys."
Sideswipe chuckled and crossed his arms "Well, what do we have here?-"
He started but was quickly cut off by a smack to the back of his head by Strongarm "Sideswipe shut up" She said in a stern tone, before looking over to me and Bee.
It was so awkward because the reason we left was because Bee was pissed off and now we're back all lovey-dovey out of nowhere.
Sideswipe was still rubbing the back of his head to soothe the pain from the smack but still had a smirk on his face as he looked at us. "So, care to explain this?" He asked.
"Um w-well me and Bee are kind of a thing now," I answered awkwardly hoping Bee could say it better. He was the leader after all.
Sideswipe looked dumbfounded for a moment but that quickly turned into a teasing smile "A thing, huh?" he said in a slightly sarcastic tone
Before Sideswipe could say anything else, Bumblebee spoke up. His face didnât look pleased or amused but just blank, his expression showing annoyance. "Yes, we are a thing," he said bluntly, as he gave Sideswipe and Strongarm a small glare.
It was clear that Bee was still upset with their earlier behavior.
Sideswipe held his hands up in mock surrender but still had a smirk on his face. "Hey, no need to get all pissy, I was just curious," he said casually.
Strongarm gave Sideswipe another glare and smacked the back of his head again, causing him to let out a small "Ow-" in response
"You should learn to show some more respect Sideswipe. Bee works hard as our leader, more than you could understand." I said also annoyed with his attitude lately.
Sideswipe rubbed the back of his head again he heard your words, and The smirk on his face slowly fell. Strongarm nodded in agreement with my words and turned to Sideswipe with a scolding look on her face. "Riley's right, Sideswipe. Bumblebee is still our leader, and you ought to start respecting him like one"
"Both and Sideswipe get into annoying arguments all the time. You two need to find a way to work better today. Since we're a team we have to work together or it will never work." I didn't realize I was about to give out orders like this. I guess seeing Bee so upset got me riled up a bit.
Both Sideswipe and Strongarm looked like they were in shock from my words. Sideswipe still had his hands up and a dumbfounded look on his face from scolded, while Strongarm stood stunned for a moment before her face shifted back to a more serious one and a small nod came from her.
"You're right, I apologize. I'll try to do better" She said apologetically.
"I know you two can do amazing things but you need to work on some things we all need to work on things," I said trying to make the atmosphere a little less tense.Â
Sideswipe's hands slowly lowered and he let out a small sigh as he regained his composure once more. He put his hands on his hips and looked at me with a slightly sheepish expression on his face.
"Yeh.. I guess we both do have some things to work on" he said quietly.
Strongarm nodded in agreement and looked down at her feet in shame.Â
"Thank you guys. That's all we can ask for." I smiled warmly.
I looked back at Bee hoping I didn't make things worse or anything. "I'm sorry if I stepped out of line or anything. I know you're the leader and it's your job to talk to them but I just hoped I could help."
Bumblebee looked at me with a softened expression when I turned back to him. He gave me a small smile before shaking his head "No no, it's alright. You didn't do anything wrong. You helped a lot more than you think. Thank you for doing that"
I stepped closer. "Anything to help you out."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it. You helped a lot more than I thought you could"He said with a small smile on his face. The smile soon turned into a hint of a smirk. "And it was pretty attractive seeing you tell off Sideswipe and Strongarm"
"Oh those two, it's like dealing with sparklings."
Bumblebee chuckled at my comment and nodded in agreement "Yeah, but they're a bit more difficult to deal with than actual sparklings"
    "Oh really, how's that?"
"Well the usual, them arguing with each other all the time like they're trying to rile each other up, getting into trouble, causing unnecessary problems- the list goes on. It's a pain to deal with in the long run"
he explained.
"I suppose you're right. But they're still learning. Once they mature a bit they'll be amazing teammates to work with. I can just see it now. And I have a feeling their bickering will turn into something else in the future."
Bumblebee nodded in agreement once again and chuckled softly. He was enjoying this little moment as we talked about the other bots.
"Yeah, it's just a matter of time. If their endless arguments and bickering donât end up killing me first" He joked, referring to the endless arguments Sideswipe and Strongarm had.
"Well, that won't happen with me around. Don't need you dying on me yet. I don't think I could work with those two alone, so you can't leave me yet."
"Trust me, I have no plans to leave you alone. Besides, you're one of the main reasons I'm still sane around here" He said jokingly but with a genuine hint in his tone.
"Well, you had to have at least one other adult on the team."
"Yes, exactly. Youâre like a breath of fresh air whenever everything becomes chaotic and annoyingâ
I was glad to see him in a better mood than earlier this morning. "I do my best.

"If you want me to talk solely about the manga vs anime skk"
I do, actually.
Please.
Pretty please with a cherry on top.
PART 1.
Aight!! I will be just pointing out some differences/stuff that was deleted from the anime.
Under the cut
THE DUNGEON SCENE:
-When they first meet again in the manga, they throw some silly jokes at each other (like Dazai asking Chuuya if he's hiding a bald spot. And Chuuya just taking his hat off to show him he's, in fact, not balding)
-In the manga when Chuuya calls Dazai the youngest mafia executive, in his mind Dazai is wearing his ADA clothes but keeps the black coat and the bandaged eye. I think it's a very silly detail
-In the anime, in anger Chuuya actually cuts Dazai's cheek with his knife. In the manga, the moment he starts getting angry he jumps away from Dazai and then throws the knife to the floor, not touching him at all
-Manga Chuuya falls to his knees (basically standing on all 4s), having a lil crisis after realizing Dazai only stayed in the dunegon to meet him. He gets up in a while, just to yet again squat on the floor after Dazai yapps more
-Obviously the pigeon-stand scene: in the manga Dazai is laughing to tears at this, while in the anime he stays silent. (Tho i must say i find it funny that Chuuya gets angry over Dazai not laughing,, like he tried so hard and this guy just :| him)
LOVECRAFT FIGHT:
-This is not about skk but lord yall know that panel where Chuuya ie standing on all these Guild ppl being all like im gonna beat ur ass next. He's just standing normally on the floor in the anime. Aughhhhh this panel is so good aughhhh. Ok anyway back to skk
-When Dazai nullifies John's ability, in the anime Chuuya just kicks Steinbeck from behind. In the manga, skk perform that silly move where Chuuya jumps from behind Dazai. It just shows how even after 4 years of not working with each other, they instantly work together as well as before
-Skk arguing about who's walking next to who like some preschoolers ('dont walk next to me' 'its you who's standing next to me' typa thing) then deciding that they're gonna stay at least 2 metres away from each other
-The manga clearly shows Chuuya's expression when he's talking about 'being happy when Dazai left'. He definitely doesn't look very happy. (In the anime we just get some background drawings)
-Manga Chuuya's lil blush when Dazai compliments his taste in shoes đđ
-When Dazai asks for Chuuya's knife, in the manga Chuuya just goes 'oh sure lemme find it' and is actually ready to give him the knife. In the anime? Chuuya doesn't search for the knife, instead he just gets annoyed
-Anime deleted the scene where Dazai talks to Chuuya about recording Kunikida while he was cursed with Q's ability. Chuuya going bruh he also annoys ppl in the agency
-those two idiots calling each other stupid nicknames for half of a page
-Chuuya mentioning keeping a track of women Dazai made cry and threatening him with sending them Dazai's address????
-Dazai telling Chuuya that his intelligence will be consumed by his hat (im currently looking at my polish version of the manga so the translation may be a bit off but anyway)
-Before activating Corruption, they yet again call each other a bunch of stupid nicknames (ahah consider this a silly form of goodbye if anything happens)
-Remember my post about Dazai keeping his eyes on Chuuya at all times during Corruption in the manga? In the anime he looks either at John or at Lovecraft, no puppy eyed loser
-Just a mention that in the manga we see Chuuya sleeping while he's sitting, he doesn't flop passed out to the ground (until later)
Well i will stop there for now bc it's past midnight and umm this is gonna be long af if i continue with the rest so,, i will add the differences in the next skk interactions tomorrow or something muah
#sab q&a#bsd#bungou stray dogs#bsd chuuya#chuuya nakahara#skk#soukoku#bsd dazai#dazai osamu#tagging this more this time bc aughh i need ppl to read the manga to see all the differences#i dont think dead apple is very different#15 has A LOT of differnces so it will take a while to go thru#there's also some tiny differences in the Meursault arc but yesh#anyway goodnight#hope this will be enough for tonight muah#sab yapping

Chapter two
HAJIME UMEMIYA X READER
Upon landing his eyes on yours, it took him a few seconds to breathe in again until the guy he came with started marching his way to where you stood with the first-year boys.
"You little SHITS!"
Your eyes widened as you followed the image of a hotheaded male with sharp features and short spiky hair that seemed to be withering away from a shade of blonde.
His shark-like teeth grew wide when a scowl appeared on his face and grabbed Sakura's head with steam coming from his ears. You backed away in shock at the scene before you.
"What the hell I tell you about followin' my orders?!" Spit flew out from his mouth hitting the poor boy's face. Nirei's face bellowed into fear while Sugishita and Suo looked away feeling sweat drop from their foreheads.
"Gross! You're spitting on me again!" The black and white-haired boy shouted back.
You stood there watching the two argue back and forth since nobody else dared to intervene, otherwise if they did, the third-year male would've torn their heads' off.
Then soon after, footsteps approached the table.
"Calm down Hiragi." An easygoing voice spoke over the fight in front of you.
The grey-haired man walked up to where his friend was practically mauling Sakura's face. Then, he placed his hand on the punk's shoulder making him snap at him.
"What?!"
A smile went on his face, "We can deal with them later. You do realize we have a guest with us?"
Hiragi's grip on Sakura loosened as he turned to look at the newcomer, his expression softening slightly. His eyes flickered to you, and for a moment, you caught a glimpse of vulnerability beneath his tough exterior.
The grey-haired man nodded towards you with a friendly smile, his demeanor calming the tense atmosphere. "Let's not ruin our guest's impression of us, Hiragi. We can handle this later."
The four other boys twisted their head's at the sudden tone their older classmate had put on.
"Haahâ? What's up with you now?" Sakura nudged at the boy. It was odd seeing how his president acted towards the stranger he didn't know of while the only background noises was the spiky-haired boy yelling at Sugishita. You stood their awkwardly as the grey-haired man spoke to you.
"May I ask who you are? I don't mean to come off as rude. It's just that I haven't seen you around here before." He smiled sweetly catching you off guard at how friendly he was.
The both of you stared at each other taking in your features. He never recalls meeting anyone like you beforeânever bumped into you on the Main Street, or during weekend days. Generally, the grey-haired boy knew nearly everyone in the town he's grown up in even since he was a middle schooler. So when he comes across somebody he's never bumped into, he's stumped and almost intrigued on who you were.
"[Last name] [First Name]."
You answered after a couple of seconds from silence. You started blinking away, not understanding why he had gotten quiet all of a sudden. Had you said something off?
But then, the weirdest thing happened. He laughed.
"Whâ"
"That's amazing! I've never met you before can you believe it?!" His hand reached to the top of your head. Was he, patting it?
From the sidelines, Nirei sweat dropped before mumbling to himself, "Well obviously. Isn't this their first interaction?" He whispered to Suo. The other boy nodded finding the older man's response a bit stupid.
Instantly, your hands flayed around in the air, feeling nervous that a random man you've never met began to pat your head continuously. "Uhhh."
Shortly after, he let out a sigh and removed his hand. Your face was now startled as you looked back at him with an unsure smile. He was acting way too easygoing than anyone you've ever encountered before (although not many).
"Anyways, what brings you here? I can see that the younger ones are already aware of you." He asked as the spiky-haired male in the background finally stopped arguing with Sugishita.
"I found Kyotaro unconscious in an alleyway?" You answered a little quiet. All 6 of them stopped speaking.
"Ah."
"Haah?"
"Oh?"
"WHAT?!"
The reactions of each of them progressively got worse. Then once again, the man began to go right back to arguing with Sugishita who this time began to scowl and look away in embarrassment. Then, the man before you began to laugh again.
Your head swung to look at him but in a flash he put his hands on your shoulders and began to guide you away from the scene.
"Ahah, I think we should go now yes?"
It wasn't an awkward walk back down than you thought it might have been. You were able to read the room and silently agreed it was also better if you'd leave in that moment. You continued walking behind him as you lead you to the exit of the school, he was humming an unknown song while he was at it.
"You don't speak much [Name]." He said out loud randomly as you two were now on the bottom floor.
"I don't?"
He chuckled, "You sure do, nothing bad about that though." He shoved his hands in his pockets. Although you couldn't see his face, you could tell by the way he spoke it sounded like he was grinning. Then, he turned his head to look at you.
"But..."
"You haven't even asked for my name." He concluded with a curious smile.
By now, you two were finally at the doors to the outside, but before you could step out, you jumped when you realized what he said was true.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! What's your name?" You panicked. He snickered finding the way your face went in shock to be amusing.
He opened to door for you to walk out first then shortly walked closer to you causing the door to close.
"Hajime Umemiya."

December
Alejandro Vargas x reader
masterpost âą Ao3
Summary: And only when you feel like there is nothing left, you'll find me waiting for you, I'll make it feel like home.
Or
Where Alejandro comes home, because home is you.
Warnings: SFW, bath scene, sweet fluff <3
Note: I die for the unsexual ways of showing intimacy. I tried a new style, not really sure of it, but i just love this trope; where A washes B's hair and takes care of them in a non sexual way, and they are both comfortable and happy :( <3
âBe still my foolish heart
Don't ruin this on meâ
The journey from the base to home was long, uncomfortable, and, above all, tiring. Alejandro shifted, letting out a deep sigh as he rubbed his eyes, careful not to touch the still numb cut on his forehead.
The medics had urged him to get his wounds stitched up, or at the very least, checked. But he dismissed it as pointless, with only one thing on his mind: coming home to you.
As soon as the debriefing ended, he hopped into the nearest car, beckoning Rudy and some other vaqueros to join him. A younger member, barely awake, asked, "Where are we going, colonel?" Alejandro gazed at the purple sky with a knowing smile and replied, "Home."
Home.
Alejandro was the colonel, but that didn't mean he didn't care. If anything, he was the exact opposite. He checked on every member, praising some and ordering others to go straight to their family houses to rest. Los Vaqueros were his family, he celebrated their joy and grieved their sorrow as his own.
Even in his most exhausted moments, Alejandro never forgot about his long-time friend and second in command, Rudy. He made sure Rudy reached his family, sain et sauf after every mission, as he had done for the past twenty years.
Alejandro sighed, stopping at the side of the road to check his phone after the last vaquero had left. The background was a selfie of you and him, licking ice cream under the moonlit sky.
You never understood why he liked this picture so deerly, he's been gazing at it for the last two years, whenever he was away from you. As if your sweet smile comforted him and buried his dark thoughts somewhere only you knew.
If anything, it was a sweet picture, tongues out, wide grins, your hair sticking to your foreheads, a proof of the swimming session you two had beforehand.
He remembered it perfectlyâthe day you got married. Instead of going home, he insisted on going to the beach to have your own celebration. It was surprisingly warm and deserted. Time didn't matter to youâthree in the morning. You danced, swirled, and swam in the dark water with your dress on.
To hell with makeup and his suit.
All you wanted was a laugh and a kiss under the moonlit sky. And you never found it lacking, not once, after meeting him.
You were both madly in love. Two fools swimming in an ocean of sanity and adoration. You completed each other. You longed for each other.
Alejandro reached home after the long journey. His muddy boots left traces on the doorstep as he fumbled for his keys, trying to be discreet. It was almost midnight, and he didn't want to wake youâor any of the neighbors.
Before the key even grazed the hole, the door slowly unlocked.
You gazed at Alejandro with a calm smile on your face and uttered, "Welcome home, colonel."
You were silent, still. Gazing at the astonished man. You promised, never quitting this habit of waiting for him.
He complained, nonsense about how you should rest and let him surprise you and bla-bla-bla.
You didn't give in his pleas, not even once.
You were always waiting at the doorstep, every ounce in your body craved a glimpse of your beloved husband.
Alejandro grinned, stepping inside and letting his bag fall to his side. His arms found their way to your sides, sweeping you off your feet and crashing you into his chest as he murmured, feeling a sense of peace wash over him, âMi mondo⊠mi todo...â
The embrace was a burning fire, melting both of you into one. Alejandro closed the door with a kick of his heel, slowly stepping into the warm flat.
You cupped his cheek, running your thumb over the cut on his temple. He winced slightly, his eyes shutting before he uttered, "It's nothing...mi amor."
You shook your head, knowing his stubbornness was just a cover to hide his pain. Not because he was afraid of being vulnerable to you, he simply didn't want you to worry. He wished for you to live your ultimest youth, without a single cloud of onus to disturb your shining sun and skies.
You were a Phoenix to him, healing every scar and cut with your gentle touch and soft whispers.
"Come with me."
You guided him upstairs to the bathroom.
The room was hot, steamy with fog clouds floating around you. The black marbelic walls were covered with small beads of water vapor, slowly racing down to the ground.
Alejandro leaned against the door, resting his against the hard material with a long and tired sigh.
You checked the water temperature, motioning for him to climb in the tub. He steeped closer, gazing at the surface of the colorless liquid. His face emerged, and he couldn't help but chuckle. He cupped your cheeks, smiling wearily. "Mi amor, you didn't have to..."
"I wanted to..."
You ran him a warm bath, filled with devotion to the brim.
Just the way he liked it, with oils and conditioner that he enjoyed smelling on you. Alejandro adored every detail about you. Somehow, you had captured his mind and soul within your hands. Your little gestures only served to deepen his affection.
You helped him take off his dirty, blood-soaked clothesâthankfully not his own. The military uniform fell to the floor, followed by his torn shirt. He sighed deeply, shivering slightly as your hands trailed over his scarred skin, the cold sensation leaving goosebumps in its wake.
He remembered when he brought you to the beach, embarrassed about his battle scars, thinking you'd be disgusted by the cuts on his skin. But instead, you cradled his flesh with merciful tenderness, Washing away his worries through kisses scattered on his back. He held back his tears, letting you heal his skin and carve a lasting memory in his mind.
Back to reality, Alejandro smiled at you, his eyebrows furrowing in question at your grinning face. He was wearing cat-printed shorts, and you couldn't help but laugh as he blushed slightly.
There was no tension, no other thoughts, not at this moment at the very least. This precious moment was too good, too perfect to be tainted and corrupted by any sin, even if it wasn't a wrongdoing anyway. He saw it no other way, and neither did you. You helped him wash away the weariness of duty, making him feel at home. Could he ask for more?
Alejandro slowly submerged himself under the water, his head lazily resting on the edge of the tub. He gazed at you, silently observing your every movement. He missed this, missed you deeply. No words could express how desperately he longed for your presence.
You held the shampoo bottle, scooping some product into your hands before lathering it into his now wet hair. He shivered, letting out a contented sigh. You massaged his shoulders, washing away the aches of war and leaving nothing but love that cascaded down his shoulders like honey.
Silence filled the house, the only sounds audible were the hushed breaths he took and the occasional dripping of water from the sink. Finally, wrapped in a large towel and smelling of fresh grass and vanilla, Alejandro sat on the edge of the tub as you searched for band-aids in the small box. He chuckled wearily as you placed a green plaster on his temple.
Standing between his legs, you cupped his face, examining his very being before whispering silently, "I love you, thank you for coming back."
Taken aback, he kissed you, your lips intertwining in a gentle embrace of madness before he uttered, "Thank you for waiting, mi todo."
It was around 2 am, as you lay in bed. The scent of warm chumpurados filled the room, igniting in his soul and heart a longing for home. But, would he complain? He was indeed at home, for his heart and mind resided with you.
Alejandro placed his mug on the nightstand before resting his head on your thigh. You ran your fingers through his dark locks, gently caressing his hair.
Alejandro leaned in, murmuring nonsensical words against your limb. His gratitude was beyond imagination. Without you, he would be lost, despondent. He found his missing piece with you, you little thief, stealing his heart and claiming it as your own. He didn't mind in the slightest, willing to sacrifice his very essence for your sake.
Silently, you asked, "Is something on your mind, mi amor?"
He whispered instantly, his fingers intertwining with your form in a tenderness that would make the clouds shy away. "You... mi cielo."
A soft chuckle escaped your lips as you broke the silence once more. "I know, mi amor. I meant, is there anything bothering you?"
"No. Nothing at all.. when I am with you, I am so much happierâŠâ

A Delightful Surprise
Request: I was wondering if you could do a smut with either Chris or Arthur hill where the reader has no gag reflex and they find out when the reader goes down on them for the first time
Pairing: Arthur Hill x Reader

The room was a cozy little sanctuary, infused with the warm, familiar scent of his cologne mixed with a gentle breeze from a lovely London summer evening. As the sun dipped below the horizon, it painted the space with a soft orange glow filtering through the half-drawn curtains. Shadows waltzed on the walls, playing tag with the bookshelves and scattered instruments, creating a beautiful scene where creativity and comfort intertwinedâjust like Arthur Hill himself.
Standing beside the unmade bed, they kissed with a hunger that spoke of longing, as if they had been waiting for this moment for far too long. Arthurâs fingers traced the edge of her shirt, lightly mapping the smooth skin just above her waistband. She tangled her fingers in his hair, pulling him closer, lost in the heat of the moment. His breath was warm on her neck, sending delightful shivers down her spine, syncing with the steady rhythm of his heartbeat against her chest. Y/N felt her heart race, melding together with his in that charged atmosphere.
Their kisses grew more intense, bodies pressing against one another as Arthurâs hands explored her curves. She ran her fingers across his strong shoulders, feeling the tension in his muscles. They had danced around this electric chemistry for weeks, filled with dates that overflowed with laughter and lingering glances. The anticipation was building to a climaxâit was time to let the music of their desire play out.
They tumbled onto the bed, the mattress giving a soft sigh beneath them. The sound of their clothes brushing together blended with their quickening breaths, creating a gentle background score to the passion unfolding. Y/N's heart raced as the heat pooled within her, and Arthurâs gaze searched hers, silently asking for affirmation to continue. With a blush of desire lighting up her cheeks, she nodded, and he fumbled with the buttons of her shirt, excitement making his hands tremble.
"Youâre stunning," he murmured, his voice deep and sincere, vibrating through her as he unclothed her to reveal the delicate lace of her bra. She blushed, briefly shy as she looked away, but his gentle touch coaxed her gaze back to him. âIâve wanted this since I first saw your profile.â His words felt like a sweet melody, instantly calming her as he began to trace a path down her stomach with his lips, drawing soft gasps from her.
âArthur,â she whispered urgently, the name leaving her lips as a quiet plea. He kissed her deeply again, his hands gliding up her leg, teasingly brushing against her panties. âIs this okay?â he whispered, his gaze probing hers for any hesitation. She nodded, her voice low and sultry, âI want this too.â
Every piece of clothing he peeled away felt like he was unwrapping a precious gift. With each kiss he placed along her body, she felt the weight of their connection deepenâpowerful yet vulnerable. "I've never felt anything like this before," she admitted shakily, and he paused, searching her eyes with genuine concern.
"You donât have to do anything youâre not comfortable with," he assured her tenderly, his thumb caressing her cheek. Something in his warm gaze made her heart swell, and she took a breath before whispering, "I want to taste you."
His eyes went wide with surprise and excitement. âAre you sure?â he rushed out, words spilling forth like water from a burst dam. âWe can take it slow, or we can stop. Just tell me.â His voice was steady, filled with a concern that melted her hesitation. She met his eyes, feeling a surge of confidence, and placed a finger over his lips. âIâm sure.â
Taking a deep breath, he nodded, his heart racing with anticipation. âOkay, but just remember, you can stop me anytime.â As he sought her reassurance, all he found in her gaze was excitement and a hint of mischief.
Y/N shifted down his body, her eyes locked onto his as she felt the heat radiating from him. The need inside her intensified, a growing crescendo rippling through her. When she reached the waistband of his jeans, she paused, teasingly brushing her fingertips over the button. His breath hitched, desire clouding his eyes as he watched her, his anticipation building.
With a flick of her wrist, she expertly undid his fly, the zipper gliding down with a soft whisper. Arthur lifted his hips, allowing her to peel away both his jeans and boxers in one smooth motion. His erection sprang free, and for a moment, she savored the sight, appreciating how eager he was for her touch. Leaning in, she let her breath ghost over the tip, eliciting a shudder from him.
âTell me what you want,â she urged, her voice low and sultry. Flustered, he struggled to find the words. âI want⊠I want you to make me feel good,â he finally managed, his voice thick with longing. A playful smirk crossed her lips, and her eyes gleamed with delight. âIn that case,â she said, her voice dropping to a teasing whisper, âIâm going to take you to places you never knew existed.â
With that, she enveloped him in her mouth, warmth and wetness consuming him. Arthurâs reaction was immediateâa guttural moan escaped him as pleasure ignited across his body. He had never felt anything like this before; everything else faded, leaving only the intoxicating sensations she created. Her head bobbed in a rhythm that left him breathless, her tongue swirling as she expertly explored him.
âDo you⊠do you have a gag reflex?â he managed to ask, a laugh bubbling out as he watched her gleefully. With a playful sparkle in her eyes, she pulled back slightly, a smug smile gracing her lips. âNope,â she teased. âItâs always been pretty non-existent.â
Fantastically vulnerable, Arthur couldnât help but feel a rush of disbelief mixed with thrill. âFuck me,â he whispered in awe. âThatâs incredible.â She was otherworldly in her skill, leaving him to wonder how he had gotten so lucky. âGod, marry me,â he blurted, the words rushing out before he could catch them.
Y/N giggled, her laughter sending jolts of excitement through him. âIs that a proposal?â she teased, a playful grin lighting up her features. âMaybe,â he replied, breathless. âBut right now, I just need you to do that again.â
Her smile widened, and she leaned back in, taking him deeper this time, her throat inviting him in. Arthurâs head fell back, lost in the euphoric sensations. Her tongue worked wonders along the sensitive edges, bringing him to the brink again and again.
âY/N,â he groaned, pleading as his body began to hum with electric tension. âYou're so good.â Each stroke made him lose more of himself; every sound spilling from his lips was music to her ears. He could feel himself nearing the edge, the building pressure making him dizzy.
âIâm going to come,â he gasped, teetering on the precipice, and she only smiled wider, urging him on. âCum for me, baby,â she murmured, the warmth of her voice sending another wave of pleasure washing over him.
In that moment, he surrendered completely to the sensations, the world shrinking down to just the two of them, moving together in a perfect rhythm. When he finally let go, the orgasm crashed over him, his features contorting in bliss as he called her name. She swallowed every drop, gazing up at him with a satisfied smile, the pleasure dancing in her eyes.
Breathless, Arthur collapsed back against the bed, still reeling from the overwhelming intensity. She wiped her mouth with a playful elegance, sending another rush of heat through him. âWow,â he murmured, still trying to process what had just transpired.
âWas that good for you?â she asked, her playful tone light as a feather. He chuckled, still dazed. âUnderstatement of the year,â he managed, reaching out to tuck a wayward strand of hair behind her ear. âYour mouth⊠itâs a gift.â
Y/N blushed, a mixture of embarrassment and pride coloring her cheeks. âItâs all for you,â she breathed, leaning in for another kiss. This time, it was soft and tender, laced with the sweetness of their shared moment. The taste of him mixed with desire served only to rekindle the flames igniting their passion once more. âHow do you do that?â he asked, genuine wonder filling his tone.
âPractice, I suppose,â she answered with a mischievous shrug, her smile radiant. He couldnât comprehend how heâd never encountered someone like her before; she seemed created just for him, a perfect blend of skill and warmth.
âYouâre something else,â he breathed and drew her closer. âThank you.â Her smile turned sultry, and he reveled in the promise of more unforgettable moments still to come.

Writing Notes: Exposition
Exposition - a literary term that refers to the background information the reader needs to know for the world of your story to make sense.
Also: The technique of providing this kind of information in a story or film.
It includes anything from character introductions to dialogue, and is most common at the beginning of the story.
Exposition Techniques
There are several ways to use exposition to convey the background of the characters and events. Some of the most popular types:
DIALOGUE. A conversation between two or more characters allows for simple and effective exposition in a single scene.
NARRATION. A way to communicate a characterâs true thoughts and desires, or give omniscient insight into a situation.
FLASHBACK. This places your character in context.
Writing Tips
You know the world of your story inside out, but now it's time to put it on paper and share it with audiences. If you're struggling with finding a good starting point or balancing how much information to present, try the following tips for effective expository writing.
SHOW, DON'T TELL. This means that you should always âshowâ things to the reader through action or character behavior as opposed to simply âtellingâ them. If you âshow, donât tellâ well, you might not even need an exposition.
Weave exposition into the RISING ACTION. Good exposition is laid out without impeding the story and is seamlessly embedded within a scene. Move the central dramatic narrative forward at the same time that you lay out exposition. Describe how a bomb works at the same time as the hero is trying to detonate it. Explain how evil a bad guy is as the hero is actively running away from him.
SUPPLEMENT THE VISUALS. Use narration to add to the action that is taking place. While some imagery are better left for the reader to interpret, others can benefit from the clarity or context that your narrator can provide with supplemental information.
Create characters who act as a âSTAND INâ for the reader. One way to get through exposition in your story is to have at least one character early on who is a stand-in for the reader; because they ask questions of the main character that the reader might have. He or she will help introduce the characters and the world without causing readers to be bogged down with excessive or conspicuous exposition.
Use ARGUMENTS to your advantage. In real life, arguments naturally escalate and romantic partners often bring up past events during fights making it an ideal scene to slip in background information. A fight about household duties between lovers can escalate to the point where the wife brings up her husbandâs infidelity from 15 years earlier. This exposition feels natural because we believe that the wife may not be over the past infidelity and would mention it in the heat of the moment.
Be BRIEFâless is more. Only say as much as you need to for the reader to understand the story. Try writing a monologue for your character, exploring his or her entire background and back story. Then, start chipping away at it. How much of this information is important, and how much is ancillary detail? How much can you show in the scene versus having to say out loud? For example, does the character need to tell us they went to university, or can they throw on a college sweatshirt or stand in front of a framed diploma?
Give your characters SUBJECT-MATTER EXPERTISE. Letâs say you need to explain how a virus is slowly decimating the entire human race. Instead of having a lay person google the information in a scene, write a dynamic scientist character who has been researching this virus for years, is an expert on the topic, and whose job it is to provide information about the virus to others. For example, you could write a scene where the scientist explains how the virus works to the U.N. or has to go on CNN to explain it to the masses as this feels like an authentic thing that would happen in the world of the story.
