For me, Sol, didnt do anything that bad as all think. Like, he killed one person and what now lol. Like Anakin killed a dozens of children and nobody takes shit lmao. Sol thinks that he was doing the right thing. And I kinda didnt liked the twins so…

He made a series of mistakes and he clearly was carrying that guilt and shame w him all that time. we can see this from his reaction all the way til the finale (he never draws his saber until the situation calls for it, still sees good Mae, was the first one saying he will face the council, and still wants to tell Osha the truth and face the consequences). His mistakes make him a complex character and w LJJ amazing performance he became an unforgettable character to me. Idc if ppl hate him I can just ignore them or block them if they are being annoying in my posts.

I'm jsut tired of this show as a whole so im just taking Sol and Jecki out, read my one fav fanfic of them, and create their own version in my head that has nothing to do w the show anymore.

However, if you want to see a good depiction of a well-intentioned yet emotionally flawed and morally ambiguous father figure who then died at the hand of his adopted daughter, I suggest you watch "Hunt". It's a movie directed by LJJ back in 2022. It has its own issues but the ending of that movie got me more emotional than this shit show lol.

** What actually pissed me off about this show is the way the finale threw Sol's whole arc up until this point into the trash. Suddenly he started yapping about the vergence, which was not established until ep7 (and in ep7 his main concern was the twins' safety, not that bs). Suddenly he wanted to shoot down Mae now even tho he didn't wanna fight her and was trying to save her on Khofar. Suddenly he didn't want to face the council now and tried to justify his action (while he clearly was so sorry about it and wanted to face the council before). All of this happened without a proper build-up (The father's spiraling was done much better in Hunt lmao). Osha's fall can be done much better and still have everyone stay in character yet still lead to the same outcome, and have a much stronger impact.

And the way Leslye talked about him in her interview like he's an overbearing father and him saying "it's okay" in the end is taking away Osha's agency (???). If i talk more this post is gonna get too long so I'm just gonna link a few links here so you can read them. They explain everything that made me dislike the show even more and don't wanna think about it anymore now lol

I know certain parts of Star Wars fandom are determined to see literally everything about the Jedi in the most bad faith way possible but one of the most baffling examples to me is when people act like they look down on all other force religions and don't take the time to understand them because they see their own way as superior when there is quite literally nothing to suggest that. Like the only other force users they have any actual beef with on principle are the Sith, which I'd say is justified considering the Sith are a bunch of fascist pricks who constantly try to take over the galaxy. Literally all the others are either allies of the Jedi or the Jedi just leave them alone to do their thing.

Oh nooo... wlw are kinda eyerolling and sighing that a show got wrongfully marketed as "queerest Star Wars ever" and is now just, essentially, R/ylo 2.0... After a Lot of really potentially interesting women have been ganked over and over again, within the show.

And now a number of us wlw are a lil tongue and cheek about how we saw the objectification and hyper-sexualization going on with Yord within fandom, only for it to now morph over to Qimir... Oh, bro, what are we gonna Do?

so. I've been reading some posts on the jedi order tag AND i won't talk about my opinion on "are jedi good or bad discourse" BUT i wanna point out some lore to everyone who's complaining about the jedi taking kids into their order: (in the EU) it wasn't always like this.

if you take swtor era (more than 3000 years before the prequels) there were many jedi who joined at an older age. like, for example there was a guy who broke his engagement to become one. most jedi remember their families because they were old enough when they decided to go.

THEN in darth bane's book trilogy (circa 1000 yesrs before the prequels) there is a passage where two sith lords are talking about taking bane, already an adult, to study at korriban. one doubted him because he was too old, ans the other told him he sounded like a jedi, and that ONE DAY jedi will have to accept only kids into their ranks if they really want to find "pure" people that can learn their lessons quicker.

one day!! so it wasn't always like that!! the ongoing wars with the sith, who corrupted and killed many of them, had pressured them into taking always younger people into their ranks.

also, consider a thing that this video explains super well: training to become a jedi is not like exercising, because there is a transformative lesson at the end of the training that changes everything. you can't just do as much as you can, but not finish.

the transformative lesson, as the video explains, is that through the force, everything is the same - from rocks and ships to life and death. at the end of the training you have to understand this fundamental truth.

yoda says "you have to unlearn what you have learned". during times where they were constantly killed off or corrupted by the dark side (and if you haven't learned this lesson you are more susceptible to this corrupting), younger people were taken in to actually finish their training (a training that was ultimately about being a good person AND that you could leave at any point if you weren't sold on that, too)

(remember that for the sith failure = death. like. that was the alternative for force sensitive kids. it's not like sith had any moral problem with taking kids away without consent. sith don't have moral problems: they believe that them being stronger in the force means they can do whatever they want as long as their strong enough to go and do it. there are MANY passages in many different star wars stories, even in different mediums, that say this out loud)

AND (this is more of a critical thought than just stating the lore) the fact that they started doing it out of necessity doesn't mean it's 100% good BUT you know. the whole set up of the prequels is that we're starting off the story in a period of crisis and decadence all around. most of the systems of the times were about to fall. OF COURSE they had problems. if they didn't, we wouldn't have the story to begin with.

that doesn't automatically mean jedi = bad and sith are better, tho. you wouldn't take the last, chaotic and decadent period to jugde something, would you? it's like deciding that the athenian democracy sucked because people at the times of Demosthenes failed at recognizing the new schemes in which the world was evolving into, and still believed that their city would be important as it had been in the previous century. They just didn't fucking expect the Macedons would conquer half the world known and more, and have the subsequent political power. Still, their experiences in the 5th century with democracy were very good, even better than ours on many fronts, if you contextualize a little. the jedi had flaws, and most importantly, they didn't fucking know the future and everything that ever happened, ever, so they made mistakes. that doesn't automatically make the system ill, or bad, or not-working. systems can have setbacks when the world changes. (just like athenian democracy had one when they lost the empire that was funding the democracy. they even had a tyranny for a while and then fixed the problems. that doesn't diminish retrospectively their democracy)

Okay I've just gotta talk about The Acolyte for a second. Potential spoilers for episode 7.

I'll be honest, this last episode wasn't as cool as the previous few for me. The flashbacks just aren't doing it for me, I'm not sure why.

But one "issue" that I really thought a lot about episode 7, that I feel like people are probably gonna complain about (because "fans" will complain about anything), is how what the Jedi do doesn't make any sense.

Because yeah, it kinda doesn't. But I'm not saying the writing doesn't make sense. Honestly I'm not talking about the writing at all. In universe, what the Jedi do om Brendok doesn't make sense. But it's also EXACTLY what the Jedi would do. They're just too high on themselves to realize that they're doing something crazy until it goes as bad as it possibly could.

This is the High Republic era. The Jedi are so incredibly untainted that they think they can do no wrong. They only begin to think about how taking children away from their homes might be a bad thing when it results the destruction of the entire community and almost the loss of their own.

Like the only reason this particular kidnapping by the Jedi is noteworthy is because a bunch of people died because of the Jedi interfering. And considering how the counsel covered it up, who knows how many more times "accidents" like this happened?

The Jedi really look at a completely alien culture, see kids that they can manipulate, and say, "is for me?"

I've seen things comparing Sol to Qui-Gon Jinn, but... no? Sol is like Qui-Gon, if instead of making a deal to free Anakin, he just said "hey Shmi, you know I have a right to test your kid, right?" and then killed Shmi, and blamed the destruction of Mos Espa on C-3PO after he started a fire. Like if in the Phantom Menace they just flew away with Anakin while Tatooine burns behind them, that's pretty much what Sol did.

The only reason Sol seems so wisened in the "present" is because he's had 16 years to think about what a big mistake he made.

I survived it, sorta. The deadlines keep trucking om 😭 So here's my thoughts:

It's really unfortunate that we don't see enough of Wuyan but I do think we have enough of a framework to draw some interesting conclusions about them both relationship-wise. So here's to me heavily analyzing the 5 minutes Wuyan is on screen! LMAO:

Service as show of devotion - Chooses to act like and appear as a lower rank personal servant to dfs even though he clearly has a lot of power to draw from to get things done and dfs tells him he sees his rank as being much higher

Of everyone that focuses their attention on dfs, he's the only one that doesn't want to own or control him (master di - slave, jlq - wife, llh - 主人, fdb - wants to be in charge)

Despite knowing he was massively outclassed, still put himself in lxy's path at donghai

Shared experience: both survived the Donghai battle together and both have matching chest scars courtesy of lxy. They also worked side by side for years to accomplish the same goals

Llh is presented as knowing dfs the best - but imo, that means wuyan knows even more. Wuyan knows all the why's that llh doesn't know

We don't see much general conversation but considering how relaxed dfs is around him and willing to winge about personal things - he seems like he's actually capable of communicating well with dfs lmao

Pure headcanon here, but I want to say he and dfs learned or figured out how to hide their chi at a high level together. DFS uses it all the time and seems to be undetectable even to llh - wuyan seems to be undetectable to the world - I mean i think his name means something like "without presence"? He comes pre-labelled. So I think it's something martial-skill related that would give additional meat to dfs' respect for him

Guards dfs' secrets - how dfs truly feels about all the mengzhu stuff and rankings etc. Don't know if he knows anything about Di Fortress, but anything he does know about dfs' background it's not going to be a topic of conversation

He pays attention to dfs' preferences and knows how to deliver them in the form he prefers (see jlq who doesn't know his preferences and hates that dfs doesn't like what she prepared for him)

As a personal guard, in the early days when dfs was weaker, he likely went with dfs to any secret meetings with llh, hid his chi to keep guard, and was privy to what went on between them. Likely is the only one that would know this information - which is also why he fully understands why dfs is obsessed with llh and supports him. And listened to him mourn him for however many years (I assume he's the one providing clean clothes and food during seclusion so that's 10 years of crying he's been privy to)

Is willing to extend his top level standard of service to the ppl dfs cares about

He acts like he's a nobody, and he's not a pretty face, but everything points to him actually being a very, very competent and high-level guy in his area of expertise? So a good match to dfs. His martial skill isn't comparable, so he can't fight him like lxy, but he can do all the things dfs doesn't like to do - like the organizational stuff, dealing with and managing ppl, etc.

Headcanon again: i can really see them having an experimental phase in their youth together. Like something where dfs and him kinda decide to test things out and then maybe deciding the timing was bad or they weren't into each other like that at that time or whatever. But deciding to remain friends instead. And continuing to build jinyuan alliance together and everything else. It's like best bro + work spouse rolled into one -- with the wild result that they come out even stronger at the end of it. Think lxy + zhan yunfei but they see each other and work together every day. Successfully. With some extra headcanon and a small stretch you can probably position him and dfs as foils to lxy and shan gudao? (Sadly not enough info about the formation of daily workings of JA back then)

headcanon continued: They have to have good communication because they negotiated or figured out how to navigate their Situation and have clearly been at it for awhile - with one being a 'servant' and with the other one having ptsd issues with servitude/slavery. In the waterfall scene we get to see dfs mildly checking in and essentially being all, "Uh, you still good there? Remember you can change things up any time you want. My opinion of you is still A++ fyi" and Wuyan essentially signalling he's fine by continuing on as always.

Wuyan is the last person alive that remembers who dfs was before Jinyuan Alliance and the development of the Di Mengzhu persona. He helped craft that persona.

Basically if you are into themes like fealty and devotion and the sort of comfort you can get from a long time friendship where they've seen each other at their worst. Where they've figured out how to communicate and operate/exist together seamlessly while making allowances for each others' needs and interests. This is it!

They could be queer platonic, they could be sexual, they can be any permutations of anything and it still doesn't change the basis of their relationship which is years of trust, communication, hard work and shared experiences.

Like imagine teenagers - one holding the other guy's hair up while he vomits blood and bile into an alley. Where they patch each others' wounds in the shadow of someone's doorway after getting their asses kicked but somehow also saving each other from getting killed that day. They're the ones that figure out how to kill together. How to hide together. They figure out how to teach others to kill and hide together. They build power with their joined hands and with it they gain the money and prestige that allows them a comfortable place to sleep and full bellies. They give this same thing to others. They build it up so well people can afford to do normal ppl shit like fall in love and get married.

These are things they likely wouldn't have thought of when they were engaged in a battle royale in the street. It's them, their circle of friends, against everyone else in the world. And even when all their friends are now dead - they're still alive. They're still together. They'll see it through.

Maybe one day they'll find their way into each other's beds - the future is ever changing. But whether they do or not doesn't matter - they already have each other. They've survived this much together. Anything else is just icing.

Yeah yeah jedi Maul au we've all seen him. But what about senator Maul au. Representing Dathomir, a neutral world like Mandalore that is still somewhat hostile to outsiders. Wearing fancy clothes that show a bit too much skin for the cold climate of Coruscant. Falling in hate at first sight with Padmé, the only other senator who brings a gun to the senate floor "just in case". The two of them having a weird rivalry because Maul doesn't trust the Jedi and is neutral in a lot of subjects that Padmé is a vocal defender of.

how can you look at the story of Anakin Skywalker and not see it as a tragedy.

you have a boy born to slavery on one of the most inhospitable planets in the galaxy, born with powers no one can explain to a father that doesn't exist (and exists in everything) and a mother who cares so much but is helpless. and then others like him come and he is free but his mother is not, and is he really free? because he still calls someone master and his mother is gone and he is forced to follow rules that don't make sense and all he really wants is to be like them but they never wanted him in the first place and he's older than everyone else but he doesn't know half as much as they do but he's ten times more powerful and got to be an apprentice first but his "master" is grieving and maybe? doesn't really like him and everything is his fault even though it's not.

and then the boy grows up and struggles, tries so hard to be what everyone wants him to be but he still remembers and maybe they were right, maybe he is too old but it's too late now and this is everything he's ever wanted, right? and he misses his mom but he's not supposed to so instead he turns to machines that won't hurt him, something that he can fix and won't make fun of him or talk about how he's the "chosen one" (and what does that even mean?) and his master tries to be kind but this boy can tell that he causes problems and no one knows what to do with him and the only person who seems to care is the Chancellor but his master doesn't really like him (none of the Jedi do).

then the war comes. he knows it's not what he's supposed to do but she's the first person who really cares and knows about his mom and she was there, she knew where he came from and none of it matters to her. he gets dragged into the war and he finally has something he can do, he can channel his anger and pain into helping people and saving lives and at the end of the day she's there, someone that he can lean on aside from the Chancellor.

eventually he gets more people. the boy could be considered a man now, but he doesn't really feel like one, but the Jedi think he's ready so they give him an apprentice, someone quick and sassy and full of life and so much like him, and he has to keep her safe on the battlefield and teach her things he doesn't really understand himself and how is he supposed to be a role model??? but he has his Captain who maybe understands a bit and his master who doesn't (except that he does, all too well, but won't say it) and his apprentice teaches him a thing or too and the Chancellor is there like always. and he knows that he's not supposed to feel this way but something about fighting feels right, is freeing in a way being a Jedi never was, but that doesn't make sense because being a Jedi is everything.

the war drags on and things get worse. he loses men all the time (men, not droids, real people who care) and he thought he lost his master but he didn't, but then his apprentice walked away (and he understands, he really does, but she left and now what is he supposed to do), and he keeps losing more people and he's so tired of everything. his apprentice comes back asking for help and of course he wants nothing more, but his friend the Chancellor is in trouble and he's been given orders so he leaves his Captain, the last of his circle, to keep his apprentice safe. he leaves and his master is proud and he saves the Chancellor and she is pregnant and the war is ending and everything finally seems to be working out.

then he finds out the Chancellor is a Sith. his friend, the person who always supported him, even approved of her, and. her. she's pregnant, and he's been having visions. she's in danger, and his master would never understand, never support him, and he tried going to the other Jedi but they ignored him, and his family is far away and she's all that he has left and the Sith is his friend, right?

so he tries doing the right thing. he tells the Jedi that the Chancellor is the Sith Lord and they believe him, but they leave him behind and they've been asking him to spy on his friend, and they insulted him before and now they've sent his master away and the Sith knows, can help her, and he thinks he doesn't have any other choice. so he saves the Sith, kills the Jedi, and now this slave-boy-man is Vader, and the Dark has seeped its way into his mind to cloud his judgement. he goes to the Jedi, because the Sith says they will kill her, the one person he has left, and the Dark is screaming in his mind to blot out the Light telling him otherwise.

now the Jedi are gone, and the war is nearly over but he needs to finish it, because it's the last thing putting her in danger, the last thing that could make his visions come true. but then she arrives, covered in burning Light, trying to tell him he is wrong, but how can he be wrong? she always supports him, she's the only thing he has left, and of course. the master is there, the one that never wanted him, and of course he has turned her away, he always thought it was wrong, of course he's here to try and stop what Vader has started. so they fight, and the master brutally wounds him but refuses to kill which is almost worse, and the Sith comes and fixes him (fixes, yet shackles him up as another slave and it burns), and tells him that he killed her. killed her, and their children, and his master is against him and surely his apprentice is dead at the Captain's hands (and later he finds that the Captain is dead too) and now he truly has no one left. his story comes back around to where it started: a slave boy, alone, with nothing but his power and chains.

later, a boy comes. from the same slum planet, but this boy is Free. the same power, but he is brighter, kinder, never had to kick and bite and claw to be seen as a person. this boy is Vader's son, thought to be dead, proof that the Master is full of lies and was wrong. the Master wants the boy dead but Vader cannot, will not, not when the boy had already been dead for so long. the boy sees Vader, in a way that none since the apprentice ever have (and he still wonders about her, who disappeared before she could feel the bite of his blade), and this child says no. this Free child sees the chains of the Dark around what remains of Vader's lIght and refuses to let go.

this child, with the master's teachings and the apprentice's ferocity and the Captain's wisdom and her Light, says Anakin Skywalker is not dead.

what else is he to do but agree?

in Vader's last moments, he sees everyone who ever cared, and realizes that Anakin Skywalker was not alone. Vader was the Master's puppet, and it takes this child, who is not one of his people but rather a piece of all of them to clear out the Dark, moments before both Anakin and Vader are no more.
