In a twist of events the hospital marked me as transfemme and then misgendered me wildly throughout all documentation. I told them I was transmasc and old women just..didn’t kno what that was? Just..all trans people are trans femme huh..
This happens a lot unfortunately (especially with elderly people and boomers) but the funniest part was when the sexuality part of my chart was listed and it was handwritten in “gay or lesbian?” The question mark is what sent me.
This has nothing to do with being hospitalized for the pollution/smoke back in June but wow old women just looked at me and said “yes both” and just didn’t realize bisexual was a word.

You ran hurriedly through the halls of the school as the third bell finally rang. You had overslept and had barely made it onto the bus. Skidding to a stop, you slow down when you get to the door, catching your breath before entering. Just as you annoyingly expected, eyes dart towards you as soon as you entered, effectively catching the teacher’s attention.
“This is the second time you are late young lady, one more time and I will have no choice but to write you up.” You smile awkwardly, “Sorry Miss, it won’t happen again.”  Ms. Bustier clicks her tongue disapprovingly as she watched her student walk to her seat, head hanging low. You sit down in your chair with a soft sigh as Ms. Bustier spoke about today’s lesson.
For the most part, you pay attention to the lesson being taught, that is until your attention is being interrupted by a pencil poking your side. From your peripheral vision, you see fluffy blond hair swaying gently to get your attention. You mutter under your breath, swiping the pencil with your hand, “Quit it Adrien I’m already in trouble.” The boy huffs but the playful aura still hung around making your skin buzz with excitement.
Shifting in your seat, you squint your eyes at the smartboard, writing down notes every so often. Looking down once again, you notice a small piece of paper folded, You look at Adrien who boredly watched your teacher speak. Opening the paper you roll your eyes at the note inside.
A - Late again are you Miss Mia? One more time and I might have to wake you up myself
Nibbling the tip of your pencil you write a note back, crumpling the paper before tossing it at Adrien’s head with a smirk.
You- Well maybe I wouldn’t have been so tired if you hadn’t interrupted my study time with your modeling rants
The paper is tossed back at your head, catching in your curly hair, making Adrien snort.
A- Well I can think of other ways to keep you up at night...
You cough loudly at the message, eyes darting at Adrien’s laid-back figure. You scribble down a quick snarky reply with shaking hands. You go to pass the paper but the sound of a throat clearing interrupts you. You turn to your left and are forced to look up, gulping when you notice your teacher’s signature white blazer. She holds her hand out and you reluctantly place the ball of paper in her hand.
“While I will not embarrass you by reading out your hidden messages, I will embarrass you by writing you up for detention.” Sputtering, you point an accusing finger at the smug boy behind you, “He started it first I was just..” You are hushed by a firm hand on your shoulder, “Well if that’s the case, both you and Adrien can join each other at study hall.” Adrien groans behind you and you throw a glare his way, one that he responds with a teasing wink. The sound of the bell ringing grimly reminds you of the dreadful time awaiting you in study hall after school.
When you get thereAdrien is already there and waves you over to him. You narrow your eyes at him but sit next to him anyway. “Aww don’t look at me like that Mi, it’s not my fault you aren’t stealthy enough to pass a simple note in class.” You roll your eyes, “Well if you weren’t tossing notes like a child, we wouldn’t be here either.” Adrien laughs loudly earning a sharp look from the detention monitor.
He mutters a silent apology as you busy yourself with a notepad and pencil. The study hall is silent and boring and 11 minutes feel like 11 hours as the clock ticks by. Adrien watches your small scribbles turn into different shapes and sizes. Before long, he notices you drawing a rather familiar face. “Whatcha drawing?” You shrug, watching your pencil make the shape of cat-like ears.
You continue drawing, briefly recognizing Adrien’s body heat as he watches over your shoulder. “You like Chat Noir huh?” Your precise pencil strokes outline the lean frame of one of Paris’s heros. While it is undoubtedly Chart Noir in a heroic setting, the way his eyes slant a little more than his mask allows and the way one of his hands rested on his chest did give way to a more seductive undertone.
“Yeah, I think he’s pretty hot not gonna lie.” Adrien hums, the feeling of his short breaths blowing against your shoulder makes you shiver. “Really? Well, he can’t be hotter than I can he?” Adrien fluffs his hair pompously as he stretches his body lazily. “I don’t know maybe a little.” Adrien sticks his tongue out at you.
Your monitor stands up and walks towards the door before turning around, “Listen you two, I am going to get lunch, and I better see you two here when I come back or you’ll get worse than detention.” The teacher fixes you both with a long look before leaving. “They are a little stiff in the ass.” You chuckle resting your head on your palm. Adrien slouches in his chair to play on his phone, giving you the perfect opportunity to observe him. Your friend is attractive, that is something you’ve come to terms with a long time ago, hiding your crush away deep in your mind.
“You like to stare at me when you think?” His tenor voice startles you out of thought and you realize you now have his full attention. Your face is warm and for once you are glad you couldn’t visibly blush.
“Hey, Adrien? What did you mean by that last message you passed me in class?” You tried to pass the question off as casual but you could feel your heart racing as the room filled with daunting silence. “What do you think I meant?”
Suddenly Adrien felt too close and the room felt smaller. When you made eye contact with him, his eyes were slanted just like Chat Noirs on your drawing. “You tell me.” You said boldly. Adrien pondered for a while, green eyes observing your features, going from your eyes, down your nose before finally resting on your plump lips. “Well, I think it meant exactly what it said.” Adrien placed a hand on your thigh, squeezing the flesh in his palm. “So tell me why you like Cat Noir?” You stare at nothing, unable to compute the absurd request that came seemingly out of nowhere.
“What?” Adrian’s hand doesn’t stop moving on your thigh, heating your skin through your jeans. “Come on Mi, humor me for a moment.” You hum softly in an attempt at calming your heart rate. “Well, I like how he seems to enjoy what he does,  saving people...” As you speak Adrien takes the time to scoot closer to you paying a sparing glance at the door your teacher left out of a moment ago. “What would you do if you met him?” His hands got closer to your inner thigh fiddling with your belt loops.
The urge to clench your legs together was immediate as the fire within you grew stronger. “I would thank him for his service and-” Adrien shushes you with the sound of your belt clinking a loose. “Let me rephrase, what do you want him to do to you?” Before you had comprehended your predicament, Adrien’s hand had found itself inside your pants.
You were sitting rigidly in your chair, lips parted in a silent exhale. Slender fingers focused themselves on your swelling bud, pressing soft circles on it in an effort to coax it out of its hood. Noting your tensed posture, Adrien tries to distract you. He’ll admit even to himself that this was a bold move on his part and he was surprised you hadn’t pushed him off at this point. “I can stop if you want me to?” You feel his fingers stop their ministrations and you quickly grab his wrist. “No!”
His concerned demeanor is quickly wiped away by a broad smirk as his fingers resumed their task. “Okay then.” He places a kiss on your shoulder through your shirt making you shiver. “You didn’t answer my question.” You nod and try to speak in a stable manner. “I would want him to- oh god!” Adrien’s fingers began to work overtime as they went down to your lips, now wet with your arousal. “I would want him to touch me there! Please.”
Lips latched lazily on your skin, sucking hard enough for you to feel it but not hard enough for marks to be left behind. “Where is’ there’ Mia? Use your words.” Your back arched in your chair when you felt his slick index finger playfully dip inside of you before returning to your clit.  “Adrien~” Your soft moans were audible now, and every small whimper made his cock ache at the thought of being the cause of your sweet noises. Adrien mockingly hummed, “Oh I see now.”
“You want him to fuck that pretty pussy of yours don’t you?”  You make a strange noise that is a mix of surprise and a moan. You’d never think words like those could leave Adrien’s mouth. “Y-Yes!”  Adrien nodded moving to use both hands now, it was an awkward position but it was worth it seeing you fall apart by his hands. “I bet you think of him at night, kissing you slowly, while his hands roam your body.”  Adrien sinks his teeth in your shoulder blade making you jerk as a particularly hard burst of pleasure racks your body. “You look so damn sexy like this kitty cat.’
You lean forward, holding yourself up by your desk as Adrien’s fingers move faster on your clit. “I can feel how fast your heart is beating, you gonna cum?” The teasing tone in his voice ignited the smallest ounce of competitiveness within you. You grit your teeth and shake your head, “Don’t get so full of yourself Agreste.” Your eyes clenched shut at the feeling of a finger finally entering you. Adrien looked at you with narrowed eyes. He wasn’t a fan when you got competitive, especially when you were obviously bluffing.
There was a thin layer of sweat forming on your skin as your orgasm got closer. Adrien focused on the way your walls quivered around his finger. Your choked-back moans cut the air as he pumps his finger faster. Your wetness was dripping onto your underwear and around his palm making squelching noises. “Are you sure you aren’t going to cum?” Adrien whispered close to your ear taking glee when a tremor passed down your spine. Your orgasm was too damn close for him to stop so you decide to swallow your pride just this once. “F-faster, Adrien, I’m close.” Those were indeed the wrong words to say. Adrien slowed his finger down to slow pumps while his thumb pressed harshly on your clit. He laughed as he could practically feel it throbbing, “I thought you said you weren’t going to cum?” You try to grind down on his hand, bucking slightly as his rough palm stimulated your sensitive lips. “Don’t be an ass ah-fuck!”
You grip the edge of your desk as you finally cum on his hand. Your eyelids flutter and Adrien marvels that the feeling of your cunt that was squeezing him so tightly he could neither tell if it was pulling him in or pushing him out.
You grunt as he removes his finger, when you look over at him, he is preoccupied with pulling his cock out while licking his fingers clean of your cum. Adrien whimpered around his fingers as his other hand jerked his cock sharply “Ah, you taste better than I thought.” Your eyes travel down his chest to meet his junior. It was thick and surprisingly long. You couldn’t help but feel sorrow for the angry red it was at the tip. But the vein traveling up the side made your mouth water.
His hips bucked to meet his hand desperately. Curses left his soft lips as he tossed his head back in pleasure. A deep warmth flooded your gut from the vibrant imagery of him fucking you with it. “Mia-ah shit.” You raise your head up to meet his eyes, your heart skipping a beat at how the green of his eyes was almost completely drowned by his pupils. “It’s not fair if I helped you get you off, but you won’t help me.” You scootch forward a little bit, swallowing your saliva, “What do you want me to do?” Adrien spread his legs with his hands holding the sides of his chair, “Come on Mi, I haven’t even fucked you yet and you’ve already gone dumb?”
A hand comes on your shoulder and gently coaxes you down to your knees. You feel small as Adrien peers down at you,  gaze disrupted as his cock begins twitching in front of you. Nervousness enters your head as you quickly come to the realization of how large his dick actually was. “What, are you afraid Mia? Or do I need to get you into the mood?”  Adrien sits up straighter, “Claws out.”  Your tilt your head curious as he combs his fingers through his hair, revealing...cat ears? The sight of a green glow slithering around his body was almost as unnerving as the sight of his outfit changing right before you.
In little as no time flat, Paris’s neighborhood hero sat in front of you in all his leather glory. His eyes seemed even greener than before, and his personality seemed to change right before you. “Adrien you’re Chat Noir!?” The blond shrugs nonchalantly, gripping his cock and slapping it against your cheek. “Mi I am all for the formalities, but I am so close to fucking your brains out right now, that I think it would be in your best interest to start sucking.” While still being conscious of your hairstyle, Adrien...Noir, pulls your head closer to his groin.
You resist the urge to scrunch your face at the feeling of precum being smeared on your mouth and chin. This resistance only makes Noir chuckle, “Stick your tongue out for me.”  As if it was routine, you do as he says and moan softly from the feeling of his tip tapping your warm muscle. “So fucking perfect for me.”  The praise makes you clench and gives you the courage to open your mouth wider. You suck on his member making him release a pleased growl. His hand laid limply on the back of your head as you take the lead.
The salty taste while slightly unpleasant, wholly addictive. Feeling your growing comfort, Adrien begins thrusting to meet your mouth. The tip of his cock goes all the way to the back of your throat making you choke before dragging back but the sounds of you struggling doesn’t dissuade him. The feeling of your tongue grazing over his vein just before your throat constricted around him drove him wild. Your tiny whimpers made his balls vibrate as he moved faster.
You place your hands on his thighs in order to stable yourself as his thrusts got more brutal. Slob collected around your mouth before dripping down your chin and finally collected by his balls every time they hit your jaw. “Fuck I’m going to cum, I’m going to cum!” Adrien’s voice pitched higher as his claws scratched into the wooden chair of his seat. His head tossed back violently as his thrusts became sloppy, legs shaking. Loud sobs left his mouth as you bright him closer to the edge each thrust is accentuated by filthy words. “Your mouth is so. fucking. Tight. Fuck Mia!”
You felt cum shoot down your throat as Adrien holds your head painfully against this crotch. He weakly thrusts into your mouth a few more times before realizing you. Gasping for air, you wipe your mouth of saliva and look up at Adrien as he catches his breath.  Rough hands grip your chin making you look up at him. “You looked wrecked Mi.” Adrien laughs as he wipes cum off the corner of your mouth.  You stand up wobbly and albeit a bit light-headed, Adrien stands with you and kisses your lips, enjoying the taste of himself in your mouth.
“We are going to finish this later.” Before your brain could even prompt you to ask, the bell rings signaling that detention was over. Adrien deactivates his miraculous before grabbing his backpack and leaving detention hall.

Love Song; Corbyn Besson
description: yeah just some good ol’ friends to lovers 😋
Tumblr media
Your face clenched up as the nurse swabbed your nose. The urge to sneeze came over when she tugged it out, and you quickly pulled up your mask. After a round of watery eyes and the oddest facial expression, the sneeze subsided.
“Thank you,” you told her, a laugh dancing at the edge of you tone.
Her eyes crinkled, showing the smile beneath her mask. “You’re welcome. It’ll just be a minute.”
You stood from the chair, plopping down beside Zach on the couch. He was playing on his phone, but looked up when he noticed your presence.
“Hurts, doesn’t it?” He watched your hand rub at your nose over the mask.
“Uh, yeah,” you chuckled.
Zach went back to his phone and you unlocked your own, crossing a leg over the other. Soon, his name was called and he snapped off his mask. Negative.
Daniel replaced Zach in the seat beside you. You bid him hello and he said, “Hey. How are you today?”
“Was doing fine before I had to have a stick in my nose,” you giggled.
Daniel laughed as well. “Yeah, but whatever we have to do to get to celebrate.”
“New normal,” you nodded.
“Y/N!” The other nurse called out from her clipboard.
You flashed your eyebrows at Daniel and stood from the couch. Slipping your phone into your butt pocket, you walked over to the table.
“You are negative, my dear. We’re having everyone who has already been tested to stay in the kitchen.”
You took the packet of your information from the nurse, thanked them again, and joined Zach, Corbyn, and Christian in the kitchen. You slipped the pink mask in your jean jacket pocket as you took the empty bar stool next to Christian.
“Hey, guys,” you greeted.
Corbyn perked up at the sound of your voice, peaking up from his phone. He was directly across from you, leaning his chin against the ball of his palm. You glanced around at the boys, meeting his eyes over the top of his phone.
“Hey, Y/N, when did you get here?” Christian spoke, drawing your eyes away from Corbyn.
You cleared your throat and folded your hands in your lap. They were clammy now, budding heat throughout your face. His eyes.
“Like ten minutes ago. I said I was here in the group chat,” you reminded Christian.
He shrugged, “I don’t really pay attention.”
“Rip,” you laughed.
Zach and Christian went back to their conversation about the album, the only valid topic of interest for the night ahead.
You glanced back over at Corbyn, who had shifted so he could pretend like he hadn’t blushed at your presence. You sat there for a moment, contemplating saying anything at all. Ultimately you settled on tugging out your phone again.
You leaned on the counter, scrolling through people’s Instagram stories. You swiped past Why Don’t We’s shared page and fell on Corbyn’s. It was a selfie, one he took mere moments before you sat down. You flushed red, eyes gently lifting to take in how he looked right now.
His eyes.
You forced an awkward smile at the awkward eye contact, feeling...awkward.
You looked back down at your phone. It seems everyone of the boy’s friends and family members had posted about the album. Except you. You felt slightly guilty, voicing your concerns to the boys before you. Jonah and Daniel had since joined you guys in the kitchen, talking with Christian and Zach.
“No worries, Y/N. I mean, you’re here,” Jonah shrugged it off.
Zach added, “Yeah, but if you wanna post something go ahead.
“Why don’t we just take a selfie or something?” Daniel suggested, tipping his water bottle towards the phone in your hand.
“Oh, yeah. That’s good. I know it doesn’t matter, but I really want you guys to get number 1 on the charts,” you grinned sheepishly.
Jack appeared beside you, slinging on arm around your shoulder. You noticed Corbyn shift again, gulping and eyeing Jack’s arm.
“Oh, we will, Y/N, we will,” he winked at you.
You laughed loudly at his expression. “I believe in you, Jack Avery.”
He squeezed your shoulder. Everybody moved to stand around you, Corbyn ending up too far away. You tried to see where it was he was standing, just because you felt comfortable being able to see him, seeing you. But you couldn’t.
You were attempting to hold the phone out far enough to get everyone in frame, but your arm wasn’t long enough. Everybody laughed at your struggle. Jonah took the phone from you and angled it at the group. He snapped the photo and everyone dispersed.
Jonah ended up in the seat across from you, Zach next to him where he had been. Daniel, Jack, and Christian decided to start pouring drinks, since it was nearing 11 pm. Corbyn stood there for a minute, contemplating running off the edge of the world.
He settled in the seat beside you which drew your attention from your phone. You had been captioning the Instagram post, struggling to come up with something interesting.
“Hey, Corbyn,” you weakly smiled.
He smiled. “Hey.” His voice made your knees weak.
You flashed the screen at him, pushing down the red blush willing itself to paint your face. “What do you think I should caption it?”
“I don’t know,” he let out a breathy laugh, “uh, maybe a joke. Like, track 4 was written about me.”
You shared a laugh with him, happy nothing felt stuffed of weird energy for even a mere few minutes of conversation.
“That would be really funny, but probably cause some drama. How about, like, ‘dibs on Love Song?’ Because I genuinely feel like that ones gonna be so good.”
Corbyn gulped, “I wrote that one with Daniel.”
“Oh,” you breathed. “Then, I call it.”
Red cheeks all around.
You quickly posted it. Soon, the room was engulfed with music, the 3 singles the boys had released filling the air. There was a single camera on the band, standing around the kitchen island you had once been sitting at.
You stood to the side with Anna and Kay, a glass of champagne in your hand. You had since abandoned your Jean jacket, revealing the flowery, thin strapped corset that left your midrif out in the open. You felt really hot, be it because of the outfit, your sparse interactions with Corbyn, or the alcohol beginning to take hold of your bones.
See, there was something there with Corbyn, something nobody really even knew about. In fact, you didn’t even know if Corbyn himself remembered.
You had been good friends with the entire band since they moved to LA, attending concerts when you weren’t in school and hanging out constantly. Of course, as any pathetic pining story went, you’d been in love with Corbyn since you’d met him, but his heart had always belonged to Christina.
When you discovered they broke up, you felt elated for half a second. Then, he called you in tears.
“I know we’re not expectionally close, but I need somebody. The guys, they just don’t understand.l
Since that moment, you guys had been attached at the hip. Quarantine had been boring at first, terrifying, even. But, then you’d begun to spend every waking moment with Corbyn. You were the one who suggested he dye his hair black, had helped him do it. you’d gone with him when the tattoo shops opened again and helped him pick which one looked best. You’d helped them move into their new house, helped Corbyn decorate his new space. Hell, you’d even suggested a song lyric or two when laying on Corbyn’s bed, listening to him across the room on his guitar.
And then, on your birthday a few months ago, you had gotten exceptionally drunk to drown the sorrows of lusting after your best friend. When the clock struck midnight, Corbyn had already hauled down a taxi from the bar, slung your arm around his neck, cradling your waist as he tried to get you inside.
Out of nowhere, the sky began pouring buckets of rain. You fell against his chest, laughing hysterically at the ironically cliche moment. Corbyn somehow nuzzled his nose into your neck, giggling along with your drunken haze.
You pulled back gently, the closeness emitting a fierce confidence in your gut which enabled you to lean up and kiss him. He kissed you back, but when he remembered how drunk you were, he tugged away.
“I can’t do this,” he urged, but you mistook his respect for consent as rejection.
You mumbled, “But I’m in love with you.”
You didn’t remember for a few days after, what had happened that night. All you knew was you had woken up in Corbyn’s bed, his clothes on you, a headache in your head, and your dress soaking wet over the bathtub.
Then, a few days later, when you were perched on Corbyn’s bed, watching an episode of Big Mouth, he made a joke about how, “in love you are with,” him. Your eyes widened, breath hitched, and a memory pulled itself from your brain. You suddenly stood up, his arm dropping to the comforter since it had been around your shoulders.
You made some excuse about homework, though you both knew you had finished your finals the night prior. Since then, neither of you had really spoken at all.
You clenched the champagne glass between your fingers, turning them white from frustration. You felt a hand on your shoulder, turning towards Anna.
“Everything okay?” She glanced between your eyes, noticing the tears welled up there.
You sniffled and blinked the tears away. One dribbled down your cheek. You quickly wiped it away. Anna’s bottom lip jutted out in a pitiful expression and she pulled you into a hug. You wanted to collapse into her, sobbing your way through the album’s release. But, you squeezed your face shut and grabbed the composure that was running away from you.
“I’m gonna go to the bathroom,” you tugged back and set your glass on the table beside you. You quickly strode to the bathroom, shutting it behind you.
You wiped under your eyes with a wet cloth, salvaging your eye makeup. Your eyes were still red, though, red and pupils blown up in a sad countenance.
There was a knock on the door and you tensed up. Daniel’s voice came from the other side of the door, soft and sweet.
“Y/N? Can I come in?”
You already knew he had seen you crying on Anna, and probably watched you storm away as quietly as one could when they were this upset. You were taking him away from his night and that made you feel just horrible.
“Yeah,” your voice was weak.
Daniel gently opened the door. He didn’t try to hug you or tell it was going to be okay. Instead, he cradled your face in his head, pushing the hair back from your cheeks.
“I know. You don’t have to explain or try to push me away. I just know. All I can give is the fact that we wrote these songs about our lives. These songs are personal.”
You met his eyes, swimming in the undemanding answers he was laying in front of you. “What do you mean?”
He gave a warm smile, “Corbyn got really good at songwriting. Just listen.”
You hugged Daniel quickly before shutting off the light. He slung his arm around your shoulders, guiding you back to the kitchen. Everyone counted down for midnight and soon enough, the new songs were blasting through the kitchen.
You anticipated Love Song through the entirety of Be Myself, barely paying any attention to the song that you knew Daniel wrote exclusively by himself. Soon, Daniel’s voice was dancing through the speakers in an upbeat rhythm, singing the literal love song.
Right after, Corbyn’s voice came again.
“You came out of nowhere like a hurricane.”
You perked up, holding yourself together with your arms. Daniel caught your eyes and nodded firmly. Your eyes flickered across the room and met Corbyn‘s. He’d been watching you for a while, you settled. Though his band mates and friends were dancing around the kitchen, he was solemnly drinking his own champagne. His hair was damp from the bottle Jonah had cracked open at midnight.
“Pulled me in and kissed me in the rain. And I fell for you.”
Your breath caught in your throat. You found his eyes again, your face bright red. An overwhelming grin came over you. Corbyn smiled in response, a dry chuckle shaking his shoulders. He shook his head, finally relieved.
You set down your glass again, tapping Anna on the shoulder. “I’ll be back, k?”
She squeezed your shoulder again, still feeling sympathetic. You looked to Corbyn and nodded towards the back door.
You slipped outside, taking a seat on one of the pool chairs. It was dark outside, only the light from the kitchen washing through the glass sliding doors.
You heard the doors open and close again, looking up from your shoes. You stood up, breathing in deeply. Corbyn stopped in front of you, fingers squeezing each other.
You nervously smiled up at him. “So...” you ached, “so, um, I guess I really did call track 4.”
Corbyn laughed, his hands coming around to your back. He pushed you into his chest, yours going up around his neck.
“Yeah,” his face drew back, “and it was about you.”
You grinned, pursing your lips to try and push it down. But, you were tired of pushing it all down, so you let your lips widen before landing themselves on Corbyn’s.
“You could be the one, girl you’re driving me crazy.”

Week 5 on @efkgirldetective 's Summer of Jily (technically not set in summer but in may?? surely that's forgivable)💫💫💫
stargazing + I've got plenty of affection / I'd be glad to show you some time
on ao3
It turned out there weren’t that many people who took Divination in her Astronomy class.
She was, somewhere deep in her mind, aware of this fact but the implications of it didn’t hit her until she was paired with her partner for this joint project. All that was left for Lily now was to scowl deep as she craned her neck, eyes crinkling with the effort.
There were many reasons Lily Evans wished she was anywhere but the Astronomy Tower tonight, number one being the late hour. Last she checked, it was very close to curfew, and sure they got permission from both of their professors for this, but that didn’t stop a gnawing worry growing inside her belly. And as a prefect –she still loved reminding herself that– wasn’t she supposed to be a little alert now anyway? Surely, these nerves were normal.
The warm May night was doing nothing to quell these concerns either, just serving as a mocking reminder of how close they were to the OWLs. She tried to console herself by seeing this as an exam prep too, empty star charts laying at the ground, but she would really prefer it if this certain homework was done solo at least.
And that brought her to the heart of the issue: the boy next to him. She had to admit, more than half of her anxieties right now were caused by him, a confession he would never hear from her lips though. An indignant huff escaped her with the thought.
“Stop hogging the telescope, Evans. Do you see Venus or not?”
She let go of James’ telescope with a sigh. They had decided bringing only one would be enough earlier, a decision she highly regretted now.
“No Venus. I think we’re looking in the wrong direction. We shouldn’t even need a telescope to see Venus, it’s supposed to be the brightest in the sky.”
“Umm, you’re wrong, Evans. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.”
The last part was said with a practiced boredom, a phrase probably drilled into his head – and everybody else who was in the same Astronomy class with Sirius Black too, honestly. She would’ve found it amusing if it wasn’t for her cranky mood.
A saccharin smile. “Good thing Venus is not a star then, right, Potter?”
She decided to continue her search for Venus on the other side, hoping to find Jupiter as well before they lost their chance to see both. Their mission was supposed to be one of the easy ones, with the two brightest planets and all. She had a suspicion that wasn’t why Professor Dowson had given it to them though, remembering her wink as she remarked that maybe this Venus-Jupiter conjunction would do them some good too. Hah. Not bloody likely.
Her decision to leave his side certainly had nothing to do with her clammy hands holding the telescope, slipping further with his proximity. She tried to bring Sev’s face forth in her mind, guilt churning inside her stomach instantly. Better guilt than these weird flutters in her heart.
Venus winked at her from afar, seemingly mocking her thoughts. She didn’t have time to take offense before she turned her head to alert James too, relieved to finally do something besides bickering back and forth about planets and stars.
“Oi, Potter, come over here. I found it.”
He shuffled over reluctantly, probably due to not wanting to admit defeat. He barely even glanced at the sky before opening his mouth.
“Are you sure? I can’t see anything.”
“Well, some of us can see without needing a bloody gold telescope.”
She repositioned him correctly, turning his head to the right direction while grumbling under her breath. Her annoyance prevented her from realizing how close they’d gotten in the process, a fact that instantly took her breath away with the awareness. She waited a while before speaking again.
“Do you see it now?”
He choked out a “Yes.”, managing to stumble over one syllable. She didn’t let herself think why that was the case, too busy stressing over whispering the question at the first place.
Needing some distance in between, she took a shaky step back, trying to regain her composure. “And the dimmer one next to it should be Jupiter. We located the conjunction now, let’s fill the charts before we waste more time.”
“Relax, Evans.” He rolled his eyes. “We’re doing homework, and we have permission. This must be the most boring curfew breaking I have ever been involved in.”
“Sorry it’s not up to your standards, Potter. Next time I’ll bring Peeves with me.”
“I was hoping we would be alone next time we were in the Astronomy Tower together actually, Evans.”
A flush rose to her face with his cheeky smile, hopefully not too visible in the dark. She wanted to storm away under the guise of bringing their empty charts from the other side, but saw he already brought them with him in disappointment. She settled for a really loud exhale instead.
They were sitting on the ground, filling their charts in silence when they were interrupted for the first time that night. A couple barged into the tower in a flurry, limbs tangled, and eyes not seeing anything but each other. They didn’t seem to anticipate anyone else being there at this hour, not bothering to check their surroundings. An amused cough came from James as a warning while she was too shocked to say anything.
The couple finally broke apart, looking at them like they were the ones not supposed to be here.
“Oh, it’s already occupied,” the girl breathed out at last, looking sheepish and apologetic. “Sorry, didn’t see you. We’ll find another place.”
The guy gave them a funny look before leaving as he eyed their position and the charts laying before them, questioning their purpose in the Astronomy Tower most likely. The frantic couple left as quickly as they came in, leaving James and Lily gaping behind them.
The silence was broken by her laugh at last.
“Oh, no. Did she say they will find another place?” It seemed once the dam was broken, there was no stopping it. “I should’ve stopped that as a prefect, shouldn’t I?”
He joined in her laugh after a while too, shock wearing off from both of them gradually. “Nah, Evans. Reckon you deserve a day off. Leave it to the ones patrolling today, it’s their problem.”
The tense mood from earlier was dissipated, just a faint memory behind now that they wouldn’t touch upon. She felt like she owed the couple for that, at least.
“I am done with the star chart. We only have the astrological interpretation left now, right?”
“Yeah.” He went through the notes in front of him rapidly, looking for the correct glyphs. “Okay, so we got Jupiter touching Venus. And Jupiter amplifies everything it comes into contact with. Let’s just list everything Venus does with ‘more’ before it and call it a day.”
She couldn’t argue with that logic. She started to rattle on as she wrote in the margins of her chart. “Alright, then more love, more beauty, more creativity… More art maybe, for the creativity and aesthetic side? And more affection for love and pleasure.”
“Yeah, good, but we’re supposed to write them as the effects of the transit so something like ‘I will show more affection’ is—”
She couldn’t stop the snort that left her mouth.
“What?”, he gave an offended cry. “I’ve got plenty of affection. I am oozing with affection.”
Images of Severus and all the other poor First Years filled her mind. “Yeah, for like three other people.”
“It doesn’t have to be only three people,” he mumbled. She couldn’t hear him without straining her ears.
“Ah, I won’t believe you finally broadened your horizons till I witness it with my own eyes, Potter.”
“Yeah?” There was a challenging glint in his eyes. “Well, I’d be glad to show you sometime,” he bit out.
She tried to stop her mind from wandering. “Can’t wait.”
Lily Evans was no fool, she knew exactly what these innuendos were, and what her body’s extreme reactions to them meant. But Lily Evans was also a good friend. So, she would wait, maybe even talk with Severus in the meanwhile about it. The exam period was plenty stressful anyway, it only made sense for her to be cautious about this.
She would bid her time, stay put until the OWLs were over. Her rising hopes were hushed immediately with the thought, not allowing her mind to dream that far. But for right now, Lily Evans would enjoy some time with James Potter under the stars. After all, she was no saint, and Venus herself shined her approval from above.

*WHY ISNT THERE A CONCERNED MARK GIF WHERE HE ISNT CRYING URGH*
I blinked my eyes open as sun shot through the blinds into my room, glaring across the white and grey walls. I groaned and rolled over, covering my face with a pillow as i slammed the alarm clock off. A vicious cough ripped through me and I winced, my chest contracting and sharp pains running through my head. It was my own fault really, i had gotten off work a little earlier than usual and decided to go for a walk while it was still light out. My downfall really was when I had decided against bringing a coat, instead trusting the stupid jumper I was wearing to keep me warm. The weather had looked nice enough to begin with but after 20 minutes the sky had decided to chuck buckets of water down on me and I was drenched, resulting in the now painful cold I had given myself. I opened my eyes again and looked at the clock, trying to turn the minutes back to give me more sleep. When this failed, I rolled out of my fluffy, lucious cloud of a bed and walked to the bathroom, hoping a warm shower would wake me up and heal my blocked sinuses. I rubbed my eyes as I stepped into the tiled room, looking at the mirror. My reflection wasn't too bad although I could see my eyes were a little puffy and my nose was sporting a tinge of flaring red. Sighing, I turned the shower on and undressed, pulling my hair up into a bun and stepping into the relaxing steamy fumes. When I had finished getting ready and had grabbed a breakfast bar that would end up ignored in my locker, I trudged out the door, locking it behind me and starting the 10 minute walk to the hospital. I really hoped I would have time to grab some medicine before rounds but I doubted it, seeing as I had spent way too long dying in the shower. A strong breeze ripped past me and I shuddered, pulling my coat closer to me and trying to hold down the scratching cough at the back of my throat. I soon arrived at the hospital doors and gladly went inside, thankful for the shelter against the weather. I walked slowly to the residents' locker room, smiling at a few nurses as they walked past. The room was bustling with noise as I entered and a few people called out my name but I just smiled, making my way over to my locker next to Alex. He turned to face me once he saw me coming over and chuckled at my pained expression. "You look like crap." He said as I stripped off my jacket and jumper, pulling my scrubs over the long sleeved shirt I thankfully wore. "Thanks so much Karev." I hissed, now pulling off my trousers and yanking on the rougher blue scrub ones. "No worries Y/N." He grinned at me and I rolled my eyes, sitting down next to him. The locker room seemed to be getting louder by the second and I shut my eyes, trying to block out the dull pain in my head. I stayed like that for a few minutes until I felt Alex nudge me, "Come on don't want the interns slacking off." I nodded and groaned, standing up. We walked side by side until we reached the nurse's station and he went off to torment his group of suck ups. I gathered the folders with patient info and dragged myself over to my 4 interns who stared at me. "What are you waiting for?" I said harshly and they scampered, heading off to the first patient's room as I followed behind. I wasn't usually that harsh with the interns but I was strict and they behaved well, eager to learn. I tried my best to educate them but sometimes they really got on my nerves. Once we made our way into the first patient's room, the interns lined up by the door while I walked to the bed. "Goodmorning Mr Davis, how are you doing today?" I asked softly, trying to hide my running nose. "Alright, hurts a little but it's getting better." I nodded and looked over to one of my interns, "Johnson?" At once the intern started pratlling on about Mr Davis' case and I nodded along, half listening to him, half trying not to close my eyes. He stopped talking fairly quickly and I nodded, "well done, we need hourly checkups on Mr Davis' vitals for the next few days but you should be ready to go home in a few days." I directed the last part at the patient who nodded and smiled. I walked out the room and passed the interns out the patient folders. The next patient was Mrs Walker who had recently had a rhinoplasty to fix her incredibly wonky broken nose from falling off a ladder while painting her house. It had been a simple case but there were complications in the OR and she was now under careful watch. I noticed Mark standing in the corner of the room and I winced, hoping he would ignore me. I walked to the corner of the room by the door and stood a little away from the patient, listening drowsily to the interns. "Morning Y/N." A voice behind me whispered and my heart picked up pace when I recognised Mark's flirty tone. "Sloan." I said curtly, trying to disguise my illness because I know he would make a big deal out of it and really it was nothing. "Ouch, what's got your panties in a twist today?" Mark teased, easily letting the dirty words roll off his tongue. "Nothing." I retorted, not daring to look Mark in the eye. I could feel the warmth of his body behind me and I wanted so desperately to reach out and let his comforting hold engulf me but I couldn't, not wanting him to make a big deal. "If you say so missy." He replied, whispering close to my ear. Despite my cold, I could feel heat rush through my body at Mark's seductive words. Normally I could retort with a witty remark but today the only thing my brain could focus on was the increasing ache in my bones. "Mark if you have finished flirting with Dr L/N, we have other patients to attend to." Derek called out, and I blushed, not even realising he had come into the room. "See you later L/N." Mark said as he left the room, leaving me wanting his heat back. The rest of rounds passed by incredibly slow and I now sat in the locker room again, trying to catch up on forms and paperwork that needed filling out. I had turned most of the lights off so the room was darker and was nursing a warm coffee in my hands. The soothing silence was helping to ease the growing ache in my head but the incessant coughing wasn't letting up. Suddenly, my pager started beeping and I groaned, putting my hot drink down and speed walking to Bailey. I was almost in the patient's room when I spotted Mark coming out of another room a few doors down and I quickly leaped into a supply closet before he could see me. I really loved Mark but he didn't need to see me when I was all runny nosed and coughing like a diseased hag. I waited 20 seconds, counting in my head before opening the door again and checking the coast was clear. It was so I walked out and over to Bailey's patient's room where she stood, talking to him about his upcoming surgery. She shot me daggers when I entered the room and I mouthed a sorry before explaining to Mr Morrison the risks. At lunchtime, I had just finished with a code blue, hoping to head to a dark, quiet space away from distractions. I was just stepping around a corner when I bumped into a solid chest, immediately apologising before looking up to see who it was. "Oh, Mark." I said, scanning the area to look for a way out and avoiding his gorgeous eyes. "Sorry about that Y/N, seems I have a knack for bumping into pretty women going for their lunch." I nodded absent-mindedly, trying to get away. "Right yeah urm I need to go." I said, going to walk past Mark but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back. "Woah woah woah what's the matter?" He asked, instantly concerned at my dismissal of his flirting. "Nothing." I said and he shook his head, bending his head down to meet my averting gaze. "You said that earlier." Mark continued, both hands now on my arms as he kept me still. "mm." I hummed, staring at the wall behind Mark. "You sure you're okay, you look a bit like your going to throw up." He said, concern lacing his voice. "No Im fine." I said, smiling weakly before scooting off down the halls leaving a worried plastic surgeon behind. For the rest of the afternoon, I sat on the bottom floor filling out charts. My headache and coughs had been getting progressively worse to the point where I could barely move due to my body aching so much. Luckily I wasn't in any surgeries today and Bailey hadn't been so much on my heels today although Mark had paged me a few times to the Attending room which I ignored. He had spotted me earlier after Mer had wanted me in the research room but I had run down the halls back here before he could catch me. I knew it was only a matter of time before he sought me out. I was almost done filling out the last chart when the door swung open and a familiar head of peppered hair came through the doors. I cringed inwardly and tried to make myslef as small as possible in the gap between the two hospital beds. I waited, trying to control my laboured breathing as he walked nearer, calling out my name. I closed my eyes shut as he closed in on my position. "Y/N?" Mark asked as he spotted my feet poking out from between the two beds. I winced at his voice and he ducked down, crouching in front of me and placing a hand on each of my bent knees. "Y/N?" He asked again and I opened my eyes. He sucked in a breath and immediately tried to bring me closer to him but I groaned. "No please Mark it hurts." I whispered, my voice just a croak. "Jesus Y/N you look like a ghost." Mark said, his face serious and eyes kind. I tried to smile but I couldn't manage, my head flaring up with every movement. Mark gathered the charts I had lying around me and placed them on the nearby bed before squatting back down. "Hey let's get you out of here." He softly said, but I shook my head, sniffling and wincing at the ache. "Come on, I'll help you." He continued, placing a hand on my warm cheek. I looked into his eyes and gave in, nodding slightly. Mark wrapped an arm around my waist and put another on my hip as he helped lift me up, careful to not be to rough. "That's it." He softly spoke, my hands resting on his upper arms for support. As soon as I was standing he brought me into his chest, resting his head on top of mine and stroking my back softly. I closed my eyes and breathed in his comforting scent, relaxing into the warmth. I felt Mark's hand smooth my hair and kiss the top of my head before he whispered, "Why didn't you tell me you were ill?" He stepped back slightly but still held me close, looking into my eyes. "I didn't want to bother you, it's not that bad." I replied, slightly shaky. "Y/N..." Mark said, brushing my hair behind my ear and cupping my face. "What bother's me is not knowing your ill and not being able to help." He said, bringing me back into his arms. "Im sorry." I said, nuzzling into his neck. "It's okay, let's get you into bed." Mark replied, kissing my forehead. Mark had ended up persuading me to go to his house, and I was currently stood in his bathroom, a towel wrapped around me. The steam from the hot shower had freed up my nose a little but the throbbing in my head hadn't let up yet. I walked into Mark's bedroom, rubbing my eyes. "Hey." Mark smirked, making me open my eyes to see his stupid self standing there with a cheeky grin as his eyes ran up and down my body. "My eyes are up here." I said quietly, making him chuckle and a small smile come across my face. "You know I think my towel on you is my new favourite look of yours." Mark said as he watched me walk across the carpeted floor to him. I narrowed my eyes at him and sniffled, holding onto the white fluffy towel that just surpassed my bum tightly. "If I wasn't so ill right now Sloan, I'd punch that pretty little grin off of your face." I hissed, taking the sweatpants and tshirt out of his hands. "Oh so you think I'm pretty then?" Mark teased, eyes still wandering. "Piss off." I said, watching Mark as he smirked wider and I headed into the bathroom again, closing the door. When I had managed to pull the black tshirt on, I looked at the sweatpants and groaned, resenting having to struggle into another item of huge clothing. It was worse than putting leggings on after swimming. I had panties on and Mark's tshirt came down to my mid thigh so I unlocked the door, hoping Mark had a pair of shorts I could wear. As soon as I stepped out, Mark sat up on the bed, eyes raking my body yet again. "Jeez Y/N you think you were trying to kill a man." He said as I walked towards him, cradeling the sweatpants. I was exhausted and couldn't think of any remark so just stuck my hands out, extending the sweatpants to Mark. "I'm too tired to put them on." I said quietly before a violent cough coursed through my body. "Okay come here." Mark said and sat me down on the bed, taking the sweatpants. I expected him to walk off to get some shorts but he crouched down in front of me and lifted my ankle into the cuff of the sweatpants. I blushed and muttered, "thanks." Mark just grinned and winked cheekily, making my face flush even more. He brought the sweatpants to my knees before asking me to stand up which I did. He went to take them up further and started lifting the tshirt before I grabbed his hands. "I think I can do the rest." I said softly, rolling my eyes at Mark's constant dirty flirting. "Worth a try." He remarked, brushing the hair out my face. Once I had gotten the sweatpants on and had gulped down 2 glasses of water and some medicine, I walked back from the hallway to Mark's room, seeing him lying in the bed with his pyjamas on. I yawned and smiled sleepily. "Gonna come join me missy?" He asked, flicking the duvet off to reveal his tartan clad legs and comfy bed. I nodded, dragging myself to the other side of the bed and climbing in before resting next to Mark. He chuckled and lifted me slightly, laying my head down on his chest and wrapping my arm around his waist while he hugged mine. I sighed contently and snuggled into his warming body, letting waves of sleepiness wash over me, lulling me to sleep. Mark turned the bedside light off and kissed the top of my head, whispering, "Night love." I smiled and closed my eyes, drifting off.

Twinyards - Hello ( Daemons AU)
Okay so here is going to be my one and only entry for @twinyardsappreciationweek -- not because I didn't want to!! I just.. life happened and so I only actually got the first one done and then I went back and forth about posting it for several days because my anxiety is off the charts this week (huh I wonder why??)
So ANYWAY! This is my "Hellos", a first meeting between Aaron and Andrew in an AU that takes what I like about His Dark Materials and ignores what I've forgotten about it because I honestly haven't read the books in 15 years. Please forgive me for making up the rules as I go along. You do not need to be familiar with The Golden Compass/Northern Lights/His Dark Materials in order to understand or enjoy this AU because.. well, like I just said, I kinda kept the "soul animal" bit and decided to make up the rules for the rest as I went along. Feel free to ping me in messages or send me an ask if you have any questions.
------
“You’re biting your nails all the way down again.” Stella’s voice was quiet in Aaron’s ear. She was currently balanced on his shoulder where she could see the whole room while also being well out of trampling-range of larger daemons and their people.
“No I’m not,” he grumbled, but snatched his fingers away from his mouth because yes - he was. “And don’t hedgehogs have terrible eyesight? How would you even know?”
Stella huffed, and the small snap of her breath tickled his ear, making him twitch. “I don’t know where you heard that, but I can see just fine, thank you very much.”
“If you say so,” Aaron relented -- not because he actually believed her but because he was too distracted to engage in their usual bickering. There was nothing interesting about the room they were sitting in. It was empty of anyone besides him and his uncle and their daemons, neither of which were very large, and was painted a pale blue offset by a dark gray shallow carpet that made Aaron feel like he was sitting in the waiting room of a dentist’s office rather than a juvenile detention center. Still, despite the general blandness of their surroundings, Aaron’s mind was busy.
After all, today he was going to be meeting his brother. His long-lost brother. His long-lost twin brother.
Yeah, mindfuck right?
Twice already his uncle had shot him a look for the way his knee kept bouncing with jittery nerves, but it’s not like he could help it. It just wasn’t every day that you found out that you had a long-lost twin. That you got to meet that long-lost twin, especially after they’d initially told you to piss off.
Well, more or less.
Andrew’s letter back to him had been more like, Aaron, back the fuck off. Stay far the fuck away until you hear from me. I’m fucking serious. -- A.
No, really. That’s exactly what it said. Aaron had read it so many times that he’d memorized it, first because he couldn’t believe that he’d gotten a letter back, then because he couldn’t believe his brother was such an unrepentant asshole, and then because he couldn’t help but notice that they both wrote their lower-case ‘a’s the exact same way.
That was almost two months ago. Mom had absolutely freaked out and moved them across the damn country within a couple of weeks of the whole ‘Andrew Situation’ coming to light, and if it had been up to her Aaron definitely wouldn’t be here now. Except Uncle Luther, for all that he was a gigantic flaming dickhead, wasn’t quite as willing to let it go. Then, last week, he’d gotten a letter back from Andrew. All it had was an address to a juvenile detention center.
And so here he was, ready to meet his twin brother, and he felt so many things about it that he didn’t even know how he was really feeling.
“Luther Hemmick and Aaron Minyard?”
Aaron jumped at the voice and looked over at the stout man who had just entered the room. He wore a white coat like some kind of doctor and looked weirdly buff for also being old and balding.
Beside him, his uncle stood up, his pomeranian daemon trotting out from where she’d been curled under his chair. Aaron scooped Stella off his shoulder and returned her to her preferred nest inside the pocket of his hoodie as he joined his uncle. He tried to mimic his uncle’s superior sort of calm as he trailed after the two men, passing through the security door and down the narrow tiled hallway into what looked like some kind of common room.
Aaron had expected it to look like the rooms inmates talked to their families on tv, with two-way glass and phones so that you could talk to the person on the other side. He’d expected a lot of cold steel and white stone walls, with all the kids in matching gray jumpsuits or something.
Instead, they were in what looked like a giant living room. There were several couches and tables, a television with a few different video game systems, and a tall shelving unit filled with board games. There were teenagers lounging on the couches or at the tables, one or two of them apparently also visiting with family. Aaron didn’t spend all that much time scoping out the other kids, though, because on his first scan of the room his gaze settled on a blond boy sitting in the bay window with a fucking lion stretched out on the floor beside him, a living, breathing, tooth-filled barrier between him and the rest of the room.
Andrew.
Their little party had stopped just inside the door and Aaron was distantly aware of the warden or the principal or the doctor or whatever the fuck he was telling Uncle Luther about the facility. He couldn’t focus on them enough to actually retain the specifics though, not when he saw Andrew.
It was so… so fucking weird. He was there. Right fucking there. His brother, and they were identical. Okay, so, not completely identical. Andrew’s hair was longer than his own, and since the kids here were apparently allowed to wear street clothes he was wearing black jeans and a black long-sleeved shirt (which was neither a gray jumpsuit nor anything that Aaron would typically wear -- he preferred normal jeans and band t-shirts, thanks). There was also something… colder about him that Aaron didn’t know how to feel about but definitely seemed to match the two brief letters he’d gotten from him.
The lion lifted her head and looked right at him, fixing him with an eerie amber stare he felt both trapped and analyzed by. It was not comfortable and it took all of his willpower not to squirm. As it were, he ended up fully flinching when their guide called out a bit too loudly from a bit too close to him.
"Andrew! Come say hello, your family is here to see you."
Andrew, who up until this point had been reading a book like he hadn't known they were there at all, just… continued to read. He didn't look up, didn't even seem like he'd heard him at all.
The man sighed and gave them an apologetic look. "Sorry, he's, well. He's a bit antisocial."
"Hm." The disapproving sound from Uncle Luther had Aaron glancing over at him and he didn't really like the calculating look on his face. It would be utter bullshit if he finally got a brother only for his uncle to make it so he ended up getting shipped off to military school or something.
Rather than wait around for the adults to come up with some stupid way to attempt to make Andrew bow to their will, Aaron rubbed his thumb reassuringly over Stella's head where she was huddled in his pocket and strode forward with far more confidence than he actually felt. He stopped several feet in front of the lioness and tried not to be intimidated by her. Logically he knew that she wasn't a fully grown lion yet, that she was an adolescent to match her human's age, but Aaron had always been uneasy around daemons who had settled into big predators. Maybe it was because his own daemon was so small and he was protective of her -- or maybe it was some deeper instinct he wasn't ready or able to interpret yet. Either way, he ended up having to keep both hands in his pockets to hide their shaking. He couldn't steady both them and his voice at the same time, and he needed his voice to be steady.
"Hey,” he said -- and yes, his voice for that whole one word was very steady. Maybe even casual. Fuck yeah.
The lion, who had watched him throughout his entire approach, flicked her ears -- but he had no idea what emotion that was supposed to be.
For a moment, Aaron thought that was all he was going to get. Then he saw Andrew sigh and resolutely dog-ear the page he was on before closing the book and setting it down on the windowsill. He looked over at him, just with a flick of his eyes at first and then by turning his head. Aaron kept perfectly still and had the distinct impression he was being judged or evaluated somehow. It was really uncomfortable and also kind of annoying, but the hard stare of the other boy matched that of the lioness a bit too closely for Aaron to be willing to call him out on it just yet.
Instead, he waited, and he used the opportunity to look at his brother too. He wasn’t really looking for anything in particular, he just wanted to know him. He wanted to know what his life had been like and his favorite music. He wanted to know if he and his daemon had played the same sort of ‘what if’ games that he and Stella had growing up. He wanted to know if Andrew had always wished for a brother too, and if he’d grown up feeling like something was missing only to feel all the pieces click into place the second he found out that he had a twin. None of these were things he’d be able to learn just by looking at him, but looking was a start -- and it could tell him other things.
For one thing, he could tell that Andrew liked to read, right? There was the book he’d been reading -- it had been a thick one and he’d seemed really into reading it. He clearly didn’t like adults, since he’d ignored the big guy when he’d called out to him (though really, Aaron figured anyone in juvie probably didn’t like adults). He liked the color black..?
Look, it was a start.
Somehow, Aaron got the feeling that Andrew was able to read more on him than he was able to read on Andrew; or maybe that was just his own frustration at being able to pick out so little. Either way, it was irritating when Andrew nodded a few moments later like he’d made some sort of decision or something. Andrew looked past him then to where Uncle Luther was still speaking with the guy in charge and the casual coolness hardened into something icy with disdain.
Aaron frowned and looked over his shoulder to follow his gaze, but didn’t see anything weird. He looked back at Andrew and said, “So, I’m Aaron…”
Andrew looked at him again, his expression a blank mask. “Clearly.”
Aaron’s temper arrived unannounced and uninvited, but that wasn’t altogether that strange. “I thought you wanted me to come. Isn’t that why you sent the address? If you’re just going to be a big dick about it you could have saved us both the trouble.” He snapped the words out without repent, lifting his chin and glaring down at his brother before he remembered there was a lion between them with sharp teeth and man-shredding claws.
Neither Andrew nor his lioness daemon seemed offended by his little outburst, though. If anything, Andrew looked amused. His mouth quirked a little on the side, almost like a smile -- or like, maybe he had an itch or something.
“Where’s your daemon?” he asked then, familiar-but-not hazel eyes scanning the immediate area then glancing backward toward the window. Most buildings were designed for the ease of use for both humans and their daemons, but some larger daemons preferred to stay outside but close-by rather than squeezing into tighter quarters. Larger daemons also tended to have a larger range away from their person, as well. Aaron wasn’t sure how far he could get from Stella. He honestly didn’t like the idea of her not being physically on him most of the time, so he was glad she was small enough to do so.
Aaron cupped his hand in his pocket and she cuddled into it so he could pull her out.
Andrew looked at her, then to him. “She’s cute.”
From most people, that would probably be some kind of an insult, but Aaron got the very weird sense that Andrew was being genuine. It threw him off enough that he just blinked stupidly for a moment before saying, “Uh… thanks. Yeah, she is.”
Instead of responding, Andrew stood up and strode past him. Aaron quickly stepped out of the way as the lioness rose fluidly to move with him.
“And where do you think you’re going, Andrew?” the big guy who’d showed them in said with a false lightness.
“Outside.” He looked over his shoulder then, and Aaron realized a half a second before Andrew continued speaking that he was being invited along. “My brother and I have about fourteen years of catching up to do.”
Aaron’s heart did a traitorous little leap in his chest. He looked down at where he was still holding Stella up in an open palm. She gave him an encouraging nuzzle and Aaron hid a grin as he hurried to follow his brother. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen from here on out -- but he was suddenly sure that no matter what, he and Stella wouldn’t be alone anymore.

——————————————————————————
My Muse
Y/N was distraught.
She loved Harry, his music, his career and could not be more proud of him, his success and who he has become.
Although, she was struggling.
This whole album has been about Harry discovering himself, who he is... but also about his ex-girlfriend Camille.
Y/N knew about Harry everything he went through after their relationship ended, he was struggling greatly. They met around half a year after the break up, but she could see Harry was still struggling. She could see how he would keep to himself around new people, especially out in public. He was quite and wouldn’t speak out much, very different then how their mutual friend, Sarah had always described him.
Sarah has always talked highly of him, being in his band they grew very close and she often got to see how he went through his different writing processes. She saw him before and after shows and she knew him before and after Camille. Something Y/N could not relate to.
As time passed, the two got together, forming what their friends called a power couple. Harry and Y/N were completely inseparable, growing closer and closer as each day passed.
Harry opened up to her a few months into the relationship, sitting her down and letting her know exactly what happened in the relationship and why it was so difficult for him when it ended. He told her that since it was a huge part of the album, he might have to talk about it a bit, without saying names of course but she knew that everyone else already knew who he was going to be talking about.
“It’s okay, Harry. I totally understand. Don’t worry about it.” She would always say, giving him a smile and a soft kiss onto his jawline.
Y/N wasn’t lying, she did understand why and she didn’t want him to worry about her, not now. Not when his second album is taking off, hitting the top of the charts in preorder alone.
She did enjoy the majority of interviews. Hearing him tell funny stories of the writing process, or always getting emotional as he opens up about finding himself, his true sound and how he doesn’t feel like he needs to hold back anymore. But interview after interview, it got harder. Hearing him talk about the love he felt and then the unbearable pain after it was gone. She felt inadequate. Wondering if nothing went wrong, where would she be? Would Harry still fall for her when Sarah introduced him like he said he did?
Although, Y/N never brought up these concerns to him. Especially after the album drop he was on top of the world, explaining how he has never felt happier and more free, but she couldn’t help thinking if he would be happier with her by his side instead.
“Y/N, are you alright?” A voice brings her out, looking up and seeing Sarah standing there at the door, offering her a soft smile.
“Oh hi! Yeah, I’m totally fine don’t worry about me.” She nodded, looking back at the monitor, watching Harry messing around on stage with Mitch after finishing up a soundcheck nearly a minute ago. They often liked to stay for a while, messing around on stage, this often gave Sarah and Y/N sometime to catch up as their boys hung out together.
“Are you sure, sweetheart?” She asked, eyebrows furrowing as she sat next to her on the couch, “Cmon (Y/N), you know you can trust me with anything.”
“How’d Harry do?” She asked, trying to ease in, hearing Harry strum in the background to Cherry, causing Y/N to bite her bottom lip.
“Good... was just a sound check. Everything running fine- seriously what’s going on?” Sarah insisted, interrupting herself.
“What was he like? With her?”
A silence fills the room until Sarah let’s out a sigh, muttering a soft ‘oh honey’ before scooting closer, arms going around her friend protectively. Sarah knew she was struggling, but with it being such a difficult subject, she didn’t want to pry too much. She wanted to wait until Y/N was ready to confide in her, but instead she bottled it up.
“Fuck, sorry I shouldn’t have asked thats... sorry it’s none of my business.” Y/N quickly says, forcing a laugh and wiping her eyes, standing up quickly and going to look for her purse.
“You have nothing to apologize for. I know how hard this has been for you.” Her friend agrees, standing and following her, “have you and Harry talked about it? Talked about how this has been for you?”
Y/N shook her head, biting her lip hard as her eyes were squeezed shut, knowing if she spoke a word she would break down, she had been holding it in for too long.
“Do you wanna talk about it with him?”
She shrugged at this, honestly not knowing the answer. If she did, she didn’t know if Harry would stop all together, making his album less authentic or If he would be upset she held it in, or even said anything about it at all. But she genuinely didn’t know if she could hold it in any longer.
“You can tell me.” Sarah nodded, hugging her tightly, “let it out.”
“It hurts” Y/N breaks, letting out a sob, “it seems like- like all he talks about is her! And I know he wrote this whole thing before we met and- do you think he still loves her?”
“Y/N, no.” She says, pulling her back and wiping the tears from her friends face, “I’ve seen this man before, during and after both of you, and I have never seen him this happy. Ever”
She shakes her head, not believing her. “It can’t be me. It’s the album, the success! He’s himself now, so that’s what’s making him happy. I didn’t help him- she did.”
“Y/N stop” Sarah demanded, grabbing her shoulders and moving her hair out of her face, “Harry is in love with you! I remember him coming to me, asking me for advice when you went out on your first date.”
She shakes her head, disbelief and doubt being pumped through her veins, “it just doesn’t make sense! Look at her and then look at me. Who would you choose?”
“You”
“Stop.” She argues, rolling her eyes, “she’s skinnier and prettier and older! She’s way older than me, way older than him. Is that what he wants? I’m younger than him, Sarah. Young enough where there’s a million articles about it.”
“You’re going to make yourself sick if you don’t calm down.” Sarah demands, “please? Just calm down and we can talk about this. What does your age have to do with anything? You’re so beautiful, Y/N.”
“No, I should stop. Mitch and Harry will be back any second.” She sniffles, looking at herself in the mirror and sighing, dabbing at the skin around her eyes to try and depuff them.
“You can’t hold this in.” Sarah whispers, hugging her friend again, “please? Talk to me?”
“I love him and it’s scary because I don’t know-“ Y/N begins but quickly stops, hearing her boyfriends loud laughter, soon getting louder as he opened the door.
Y/N shoots Sarah a sympathetic look, silently begging her to remain quiet and not say a word, which she nods, giving Mitch and Harry a smile as they walk in the door, each boy going to each of them.
“Hey babe!” Harry smirks, kissing her before pulling back, eyebrows furrowing together and he lowers his voice, “are you alright? You look like you’ve been crying.”
“I’m okay!” She smiles, “poked my eye when I was fixing my makeup. Anyways, what are you guys up to?”
“We were gonna go grab some food before the show! Where do you wanna go?” He asks, hands going around her waist.
“Oh I’m not hungry.” She quickly responds, “been feeling a bit off all day so I might stay behind. I wanna feel better for your show.”
Harry frowns, pulling her closer to him before leading her out of the lounge room, leaving Mitch and Sarah as they continue their own conversation. Harry leads her off to his private dressing room.
“What’s up?” He frowns, lifting his hand to her face and rubbing her cheek softly, “what happened?”
“Nothing, Harry.” She smiles, her heart growing at his concern. Yet, she knows she can’t tell him. Not now, hours before his mini Fine Line show in London. The last thing she wants to be is a distraction, “don’t worry about me, really! And I feel like I’ve been budging in too much, go bond with the band!”
“You’re not interrupting anything. I want you here.”
“I know and I appreciate that, really, love being around you and everybody.” She giggles, “but I’m not gonna be there the whole tour and I gotta get used to that.”
“I wish you could be.” He frowns, pulling her right against his chest, “always want you next to me.... or below me.”
“Harry!” She laughed, pulling back and playfully pushing him, “you’re crazy.”
“Crazy for you, my love.” He dopily smirks, kissing her, softly.
She giggled against his lips, pulling him closer for another, each kiss making her worries drift further and further away. Mind reeling as his hands fall down her waist, gripping her bum as he pushes her closer, his lips falling down to her neck.
“Hey man, Sar-“ Mitchs voice causing them to jump away from each other, the three of them turning red as he clears his throat, “Um- sorry. I was just saying that Sarah said she’s gonna take a nap before the show too so I think it’s just just gonna be us and the other guys.”
“Sounds good!” He smirks, feeling a bit smug after what Mitch just walked in on, he turns back to Y/N, tucking a hair behind her ear, “you can stay in here if you want, lock the door and take a nap or whatever you need. Nobody should bother you and I’ll be back before you know it. Okay?”
She nodded, thanking him before pressing a kiss to his lips, “I love you, Harry.”
“I love you more, babygirl.” He smiles, kissing the top of her head before waving goodbye, following Mitch out.
She sighs, falling back on the couch and closing her eyes, mind muddled with confusion. Moments like that make her feel so silly, wondering why she ever worried in the first place. She does trust Harry, she doesn’t worry about him going out to try and find someone else, but she always wonders if he prefers to be with her, just has Y/N because he doesn’t have that option anymore.
She can’t help but lay awake, spending many sleepless nights just comparing herself to her. Camille was beautiful, and nobody could deny that. She had such grace and Y/N felt like her French accent and demeanor made her much more interesting then her own plain American ways. She wonders if Harry wishes Y/N was older, rather than being multiple years younger. She wondered if it annoyed him, bothered him that she had a great lack of experience. Harry was all she’d ever known and all she wants forever.
But did he feel the same? Did he actually love her? Does he actually find her as beautiful as he said? She found it hard to believe, especially seeing all he has had in the past. It makes her feel guilty, guilty for feeling so upset and hurt by seeing and hearing about people he was with prior, even though they’d never met at the time.
The door swings open, startling her and causing her to jump and heart to pound as she prepared what she would say next to Sarah, but it wasn’t her, it was Harry.
“What? What are you doing here?” She rushes, clutching her chest to try and calm her racing heart, I thought you were going to get food? Did you forget something?”
“Yes.” He mumbles, sinking down onto the couch next to her and holding her face in his hands, “I forgot to tell you how important you are to me. More than any album, place on the charts, anything.”
“W-what? Where is this coming from, Bubs?”
“Sarah told me what you said to her.” He frowns, eyes sparkling, “and I’m the biggest fucking arsehole I didn’t stop to talk to you about it once. To stop and actually ask you about it.”
“Harry, really, I’m just being-“
“Y/N listen, you are the best thing to ever happen to me. You’re my person. You’re it for me.” He whispers, leaning his forehead against her, tears forming in her eyes as she’s filled with so many emotions, “you gotta believe me, lovie.”
“I love you, Harry.” She sniffles, “I believe you, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize, you didn’t do anything wrong. This is all my fault. I should’ve talked to you more, I didn’t even think about how hard this would be for you, I’m so sorry.” He rambles, “you are the love of my life Y/N. Yes, I was in love before but this? With you? It’s so strong and real and terrifying. I’ve never felt this before. I want to be with you. Forever. Nobody else. And I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am to not have made that clear.”
“I should’ve told you from the beginning how I felt.” She admits, “I don’t want you to stop talking about it in interviews if that’s what you want to say, you should say it. It’s just really hard to hear you talk about her all the time.”
“I’m sorry my love. I don’t deserve you, don’t deserve your support.” He whispers, kissing her hands, “I am so beyond lucky to have you. You are the most beautiful, kind, considerate woman in the whole world. I don’t know how I got you.”
“Stop it.” She blushes, bringing her hands away from his lips and up to his face, shaking her head in disbelief, wondering how he even existed, “you are truly the most perfect man.”
“Now you stop.” He chuckles, cheeks turning pink, “I’m praising you here... really though love. You are my muse. I have millions of songs written about you.”
“Really?” She whispers, eyes wide, “you’re not just saying that?”
“What do you think Mitch and I are doing all the time?” He laughs, “we make Sarah go because we know she’d tell!”
“Well you’re right, because she told you what I said after I told her not too.” She blushes, looking down at her lap.
“Oh stop that you know she did the right thing.” He laughs, dragging her a bit closer to him so her legs lay over his lap, “Honestly, I was scared to show you them, thought I was open before wait till you hear these.”
“Can I? Can I hear them? Please?”
“I guess since you have good manners.” He smirks, pulling her on top of him. She giggles and he pulls her onto his lap, “you can hear ‘em all. Don’t know what I was waiting for... guess I was just scared?”
“Of what, Bubby?” She frowns, arms resting around his shoulders as she looks up at him.
“I don’t know... I just... I know you’re the one, so it’s kinda scary I guess...not knowing if you feel the same.”
“I do.” She squeaks, “I love you so much- wanna be with you forever.”
“Yeah?” He smirks, squeezing her hips tight causing her to squeal, falling into him, “I’ve been yours since the day we met. You inspire me, Y/N. You are my muse. I’d choose you over anyone. You are my priority.”
He leans in, kissing her softly, almost as if he was afraid of breaking her in two. His lips fell to her neck, sucking on her favorite spot and her grip tightened on him, head falling to the side a bit and she lets out a soft whimper.
“Harry, please...” she squeaked, hips pressing down into him involuntarily.
“I’m gonna take care of you.” He whispers lowly, pulling up the bottom of her dress and over her head, “gonna take care of you until the day I die, my love.”

A Little R&R
__
Simon x Fem. Reader
Warnings: Some sexual references.
Word Count: 2,110
“Mmhm, well, you’re gonna see a noticeable change if you keep that up.”
__
Nobody has ever said that being a doctor is easy work. As a matter of fact, being in any job in medical field is probably one of the most demanding jobs there can possibly be. However, you had gone through a lot of school to become a doctor and while it was hard work, it was rewarding work. Nothing filled you with more joy than helping others. It was something that made you super passionate. It reminded you that, despite the fall, there’s still good in the world.
With that being said, there were still times when the workload did sometimes get to be a bit much. At least before, when you were in a legit hospital, you had nurses and other doctors to provide their hands-on help. Now, it was pretty much just you. If you were lucky, Simon or another savior might be able to offer some minimal help, but in an overall sense, you were on your own. Another challenge refers to the more sanitary side of things. Since you weren’t in a hospital, the infirmary wasn’t as sterilized as you wanted it to be. You cleaned the infirmary from ceiling to floor every single day and as often as you could. You always deep cleaned your tools and sterilized them, but at the end of the day there was no way for everything to be completely clean.
The worst part of it, though, was the fact that you had every single solitary patient. Obviously, if you’re the only doctor, then everyone is going to come to you. Some days you would have one person come in and some days you would have 40 people come in. It just varied from day to day. Your absolute least favorite day was check-up day. After you had been at the Sanctuary for about a year (and Negan realized you were there to stay) he found it necessary for every savior to have an annual checkup. Everyone. On the same day.
The first year you had to do it was absolute hell. Everyone showed up at random times during the day and there was no order whatsoever. However, the next year, you put a system in order. Every savior would have to come at a specific time, starting with the highest in command to the lowest (this was per Negan’s request). So, Negan always went first, Simon next, and so on and so forth. You usually averaged about one savior every fifteen minutes. Which doesn’t sound that bad, but considering there’s an average of about 150 to 200 saviors, it makes out to be a long day of work.
It was checkup day, November 11th to be exact. You had made sure to hydrate plenty the day before and get a good night of sleep, because you were not taking any breaks to try and get this over with quicker. Sure enough, you heard Negan’s familiar voice in the doorway at 6:00 A.M. sharp;
“Well, good morning, doc!” He chirped.
You gave a smile;
“Negan.” You said acknowledging his presence.
Negan always went first because he was indeed highest in command. He also liked to just get it over with so he could still get a useful day of work. He knew the drill. He stripped off his signature leather jacket, setting it on the chair in the corner with his beloved Lucille. He had this rather unsettling smirk on his face. As much as you respected him as a leader, he could be quite disrespectful to you. Not in a “I don’t respect your feelings kind of way”, but he was known as a ladies man (his multiples wives as evidence to that). It didn’t at all offend or bother him to have a woman put her hands on him, in a professional way or not. He sat on the table as you began his checkup exam. He stayed silent for a little while, but you knew it wouldn’t last. As you were listening to his lungs and overall breathing, he spoke;
“You know, if you really want to see how I can handle myself, you can close that door and I’ll just show you.” He prided.
You hushed him, waving a hand in front of his face. You couldn’t properly hear what you were listening for if he was talking. You stayed quiet as you finished listening to his lungs before you answered. You hung the stethoscope around your neck as you tested his reflexes.
“Now, that’s not a very professional thing to say to your doctor is it?” You said grabbing the reflex hammer off of the counter.
He shrugged;
“I mean, doctor-patient confidentially, right? Or does that not apply anymore?” He asked.
“No, it does...depending on who you are,” You said truthfully.
You tested Negan’s reflexes on his knees, noting that his response was a little slow;
“Reflexes are delayed,” You said taking the back of his hand and checking for dehydration. Nada. “Did you drink last night?”
He nodded as you wrote it down on his chart. He was healthy as a horse.
“Well, other than the reflexes, you’re good to go,” You said truthfully.
Negan smiled;
“Sweet,” He said getting off of the table and retrieving his jacket and weapon of choice.
“Will you send Simon in, please?” You asked.
Negan zipped his jacket;
“As long as you two promise to behave in here.” Negan said approaching the doorway and motioning for Simon who was right outside.
Simon walked in, Negan giving him a slight glare as he left. Simon raised a brow and looked at you;
“What was that about?” He asked.
You rolled your eyes;
“Turned him down. Again.” You said referring to his advances.
That wasn’t at all an uncommon occurrence. Negan was always trying to pick you up and had even thrown a marriage proposal your way before. All to which you denied and continue to deny every time. It was kind of a running joke between you and Simon now;
“Shocker,” He said pulling you to him, “Mornin’, baby.”
You gave him a quick kiss;
“Hi.” You replied.
He sat on the exam table, eager to get this over with. He hated going to the doctor, although he was willing to make an exception. You checked his eyes and ears first, both in perfect condition. You checked his lungs and breathing next, as you had done with Negan.
“Take off your shirt, please.” You asked.
He smirked as he lifted it over his head;
“Yes ma’am.” He set his shirt aside and winced at the cold metal of the stethoscope against his back.
His hands were on yours hips, rubbing in circles as you listened to his breathing and heart beat. His heart rate was a little elevated, but that was most likely from the fact that he was raking you over. You were asking just some general questions (all of which you knew the answer to) along the way. You had your hands at his neck, feeling for any swollen or tender lymph nodes;
“Have you had skin irritation or any noticeable changes to your body lately?” You asked as you felt his neck gently, his skin sensitive to the feel of your touch.
He groaned;
“Mmhm, well, you’re gonna see a noticeable change if you keep that up.” He said.
You pulled your hands away and tried not to laugh;
“Sorry. I’m almost done.” You said reaching for a tongue depressor.
“What time do you think you’ll be done?” He asked curiously.
You shrugged and gave a questionable look;
“Late for sure. Open wide,” You instructed, “Maybe midnight?”
You checked his throat for any signs of inflamed tonsils or strep throat as he attempted to speak a response that was just muffled;
“Huh?” You asked taking the depressor away.
“I said to come to my room when you do get off. I’ll be up.” He repeated.
You nodded, jotting the final notes on his chart;
“You don’t have to wait up for me.” You kindly said.
“Sure, I do. I want to.” He retorted.
You smiled, and sighed contently when you finished his examination;
“Well, my love, you are in perfectly good health.”
He laughed at your monotonous tone and slipped his shirt back on, before standing back up;
“Do you have any breaks today?” He asked.
“Nope. Straight shot from start to finish.” You replied.
He nodded with a slight grimace. He hated seeing you work yourself too hard. But you wouldn’t do it any other way. He kissed you again before leaving;
“I’ll see you tonight. Don’t work too hard.”
__
The day went by horribly slow. Person after person came through. You repeated the same tests over and over until you felt like you’d freaking pass out. Finally, low and behold, you examined the very last savior at around 12:15 AM. Basically 18 hours of straight work with no breaks. Honestly, it should’ve been longer than that, but some exams didn’t take as long as others. You were exhausted and drained. You cleaned the infirmary as usual, used the shower, and finally were lights out at 12:45. You locked up and straggled to Simon’s room, which felt like miles away. You walked into his room and, sure enough, he was awake and waiting for you.
You looked tired, to say the least. He offered a comforting smile;
“Hey. All done?” He asked.
“All done.” You affirmed.
Your legs and feet had never hurt so bad in your entire life. You quite literally collapsed onto the bed, letting out a sigh of relief that you felt in your soul. He sat on the end of the bed as you just took a moment to mellow out. Your feet were a horrible shade of dark pink, borderline red from the heavy blood flow from being on your feet all day.
“126. 126 saviors came through. That’s a personal record.” You said with a laugh.
Simon shook his head in disbelief;
“I don’t know how you do it. Anybody that you think will kick the bucket this year?” He asked slightly joking but also not.
You scoffed;
“From a physical health standpoint, no. Mentally though, that new guy Derek might be in for it if he doesn’t change his attitude,” You stated honestly.
“Oh, yeah. The tall redheaded guy, right? I think Richie got into a tussle with him a few weeks ago.” Simon said recalling the big fight that went down.
You hummed in affirmation as you watched him trace circles on your leg lazily with his index finger. You groaned and rubbed your face;
“My feet hurt so bad. I feel like I’ve been standing and walking all day.” You growled.
Simon got up from the bed and laughed;
“That’s because you have,” He grabbed a bottle off of the dresser and sat back down. You suddenly felt a cold presence and rubbing sensation on your leg. You looked down and let out a groan of relief upon realizing Simon was rubbing your legs and feet;
“You are an absolute angel, you know that?”
He smirked;
“I do my best.”
His hands worked wonders on your aching lower limbs and appendages. You raised a brow;
“Where did you get lotion from?” You asked examining the dark red, label-less bottle.
His hand gently gripped and slid down from your knee to your ankle;
“I have my ways,” He grinned; “I thought you outta know that by now.”
“You’re still full of surprises. I never know what tricks you have up your sleeve.” You laughed heartily.
He still grinned;
“Yeah, well, I gotta keep it interesting,” He joked, “No, but I found this last week. I’ve just been meaning to give it to you.”
The lotion’s scent was so good and so calming. You definitely could’ve fallen asleep right where you were.
“At least I know I’ll sleep good tonight.” You stated.
“Speaking of, I think it’s time to call it a night.” He said rubbing the last bit of lotion in and returning the bottle to the dresser.
You groaned and rolled over to your side of the bed with him quickly sliding into his side. You rested yourself against his side, immediately feeling like you were about to fall asleep. Before you drifted off, however, he softly said a few last words for the night;
“You really do keep this place running,” He said kissing your head, “I love you. And I’m really proud of you and everything that you do.”
You looked up at him sleepily, kissing him softly before falling asleep in the arms of the best thing that’s ever happened to you.

TTS Songs Ranked Worst to Best
Tumblr media
Someone asked me to rank my fav and least fav TTS songs a while back, but I’ve since then relistened to the soundtrack and there’s a whole bunch of songs that just forgot about, so here’s a more accurate ranking now that the songs are more fresh in my mind
32 .  Life After Happily Ever After (Reprise)
Tumblr media
This song is infuriating, because the finale is infuriating. Listening to this song just makes me angry all over again because it reminds me just how unsatisfying the ending to TTS was. I wanted to turn it off at several points. I barely can get through it despite it being so short. It doesn’t help that the soundtrack leaves all the dialogue in there and fails to actually end the song. It just cuts off before the final note.
31. Hook Foot’s Ballad
Tumblr media
Does this even count as a song? Why is it here on the soundtrack but not the Hurt Incantation? Did Menken really waste his talent writing a joke and did the showrunners really waste money and limited resources on this?
30. Friendship Song
Tumblr media
Bland, boring, and pointless. It was clearly written as a marketing stunt for the radio disney charts and not as anything to do with the plot of the series. They just throw it up on screen to fill out the running time and don't even let the whole song play through. It’s pitiful.
29. Waiting in the Wings (Reprise)
Tumblr media
I didn’t think much of the original song one way or the other, but the reprise is soooo dumb. The plot twist it introduces winds up ruining the whole show and sabotaging both Cassandra’s and Rapunzel’s characters. It’s not even a nice sounding song on it’s own. The kid’s voice is irritating (who I’m sure is doing her best, but really little kids shouldn’t be made to sing professionally as a general rule) and the melody just as bland as the first time it was played. The only reason to like this song is if you’r a mega fan of Cassandra’s or her VA, which I am not. (Note: this is not a criticism of Eden Espinosa, I just don’t happen to follow any of the VAs in this show)
28. Through It All
Tumblr media
I like the instrumentals in this song, and that’s about it. Everything about this song is wrong. It doesn’t fit the story, it’s a misuse of the cast and songwriters, it’s a waste of valuable screen time, the melody is dull, and the dang soundtrack had to throw in that lame dialogue about ‘greatest threat ever’ at the beginning. If you want a pump up song in your story then you got to earn it. You can’t just tell us things are bad, you got to show it. A joyful horseback ride and everyone sitting in a bar safe and sound isn’t threatening or depressing enough to warrant a cheering up session. Plus the song itself doesn’t add anything to the overall story.
27.  The Girl Who Has Everything
Tumblr media
Sometimes I think the writers were willing trying to sabotage themselves. It’s as if they were determined to make the only two main female characters in the show unlikeable bitches in season three.   Don’t believe me? The creator Chris has said this song only exists to highlight how much easier Rapunzel has things than Cass and went onto say that Rapunzel was in the wrong during their conflict because ‘she held Cassandra back’. (Oh yeah she totally ‘held back’ the grown woman who left on her own accord, returned on her own accord, and then assaulted and tried to murder a bunch of people for no reason of her own accord.) But this song does succeed in furthering season’s three narrative that Rapunzel is a spoiled selfish brat. Shame the story fails to address this setup and never has Rapunzel learn to be a better person. Rather the narrative bends over backward to tell us how special Rapunzel is without any sense of self awareness and this song falls into that same trap; making it both irritating and pointless.
26. Listen Up
Tumblr media
Yeah, I talked about this on my salt marathon, but I just don't like this song very much. The melody is fine but the lyrics are a real miss in my mind. It doesn’t help matters that the song is indeed pointless in the grand scheme of things.
25.  Livin’ the Dream
Tumblr media
This is much on the same level as Listen Up as it features the same problems. It doesn’t add to the narrative and the lyrics kind of let it down. I placed it higher just because I like the melody a little more.
24.  More of Me
Tumblr media
This song is a lot like the Friendship Song in that it was created to be an end credit song for the pop charts and you’d be forgiven in forgetting it even exists. However, it at least got to actually play all the way through. I think this song was a real missed opportunity. I honestly believe that it should have been the opening theme song of the show instead of Wind in My Hair. It’s more built to serve such a purpose and it’s a waste of resources not to actually use it. Alternatively, I would have accepted it being reworked into the actual series as a character song. Especially since we’re missing a song in season three due to budget cuts.
23. Wind In My Hair
Tumblr media
Speaking of theme songs, I think I would like Wind In My Hair a lot better if i didn’t have to listen to it every episode. On its own it actually has a lot of things going for it; a nice melody, interesting instrumentals, good singing, ect. Unfortunately it’s just over exposed, and none of those elements lend themselves naturally to an intro song for a tv show. In fact the theme song feels really out of place and is edited oddly to fit the shorter intro.
22. Wind In My Hair (Reprise)
Tumblr media
Honestly the theme song is mostly comprised of this reprise, but it has the opening instrumentals from the OG song frankensteined onto it. This means that the version that plays before every episode is on fullblast all the time to keep the energy up, but that’s not how the song is suppose to go.  The actual reprise that plays in the pilot builds to a crescendo, starting soft and melancolony and getting louder and more hopeful and determined. It sounds a lot better in full because of that.  It’s still too overexposed though. Both these songs would probably be higher on the list of not for the theme song version.
21. With You by My Side
Tumblr media
This song is fine. It’s nothing special, but it’s not bad either. What knocks it down the list is the fact that Lance isn’t in it, despite Lance being right there.  Like don't bother hiring a famous Broadway singer if you’re not going to have him sing!  But that speaks more to the poor writing of season two than anything else. This song also doesn’t really add anything to the narrative as, contrary to what the writers intended, it doesn’t actually enhance the emotional impact of Cassandra’s betrayal later in the episode. The song itself is just tacked on and doesn’t take the opportunity to lay down any foreshadowing for that plot point.
20. Next Stop Anywhere
Tumblr media
Another perfectly serviable song. It’s not bad but nothing outstanding. It gets the job done. It’s also really ho-hum and the soundtrack keeps all the unneeded dialogue, which is a pet peeve of mine.
19. Waiting In the Wings
Tumblr media
Despite it’s hype, I never thought much of Waiting in the Wings. It’s got nice instrumentals and Eden Espinosa gives it her all in the singing department. The problem is it’s too generic. It’s a bare bones basic ass ‘I want song’. Cassandra's movations are weak and unsupported by the narrative, the melody is boring, and it honestly doesn’t add anything to her story. I mean it should, it’s her character solo, but because she’s written so poorly the song just winds up undermining the character in the end.   All I’m saying is that, this is not the song from season two that I would have nominated for the Emmys. But it’s still Alan Menken, it’s still nicely performed, and given the rest of the competition for that year, it did deserve to win.
18. If I Could Take That Moment Back
Tumblr media
This song is also pretty generic, but it’s less boring than I See the Light, (yeah, I said it, I See the Light is boring) so that’s a win in my book. Ergo this holds the title of the only New Dream duet that I enjoy. But there’s better stuff on this list.
17. Next Stop Anywhere (Reprise)
Tumblr media
Well no, I take that back. The reprise of Next Stop Anywhere is also technically a New Dream duet. It’s still not anything amazing, but it works for what it is. Plus, Adria’s opening dialogue in the soundtrack version doesn’t bother me quite as much as some of the other dialogues choices that were kept in.
16. Stronger Than Ever Before
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed this song in the moment. It’s catchy and fun, and it finally has Lance doing something rather than ignoring his existence. However it is borderline unnecessary in terms of story placement, and I’m slightly mad at it now that I know that we could have gotten a Rapunzel and Varian duet but it was scrapped for this instead.
15. Crossing the Line
Tumblr media
Keeping with the theme of ‘songs I have conflicting emotions about’, we have Crossing the Line.  This song is confused. It starts and stops, the melody isn’t clear, the orchestration is playing tug of war with the singers for dominance, and it’s basically Alan Menken and the show’s creators ripping off Frozen. (I guess he’s kicking himself for leaving that particular project?)   But it’s interesting. I never heard anything quite like it. It’s memorable even if it doesn’t fully work. It’s got these interesting bits and pieces to it that just never quite comes together as a whole. Some of the lyrics are some of the best Glenn Slater has ever wrote and is far better than the story actually surrounding the song. Yet there’s other lines that are total cringe. Sometimes the song is bold and catchy and gets you all hyped up, and then other times its limp and staggering and feels so awkward to listen to.  Yet it’s not boring or generic and so I have to place it higher than the rest of the songs that’s come before. (Also, there’s some amazing orchestral covers out there that really pulls together the various parts really well, just fyi)
14.  Nothing Left to Lose
Tumblr media
I really don't like this song.  I’ve been one of its biggest critics ever since it was leaked by the marketing team earlier this year.  And yet... I can’t in good conscience place any lower on this list.  All of the problems I have with it are the exact same problems I have with Crossing the Line. It’s confused, the various pieces don't line up, the instrumentals are competing with the vocals, the song’s progression is weird with it’s constant key changes, some of the lyrics are good while others are absolute shit, ect and so forth.  It also actively works against the story it's trying to tell. The song wants you to sympathize with Cassandra, but her lines are as shallow as a puddle and makes her look like a sociopath. Especially when she’s physically attacking Varian through out for no reason. Also neither character learns anything from the exchange and it fails to impact the story.  By all accounts this is a bad song.  But I’m Varian trash.  There I said it. You happy?  Varian’s parts in the songs are fine, good even, and the song is anything but bland. I would rather listen to a mess then be bored to tears by a competent yet standard four chord pop song.
13. I’d Give Anything
Tumblr media
This song is nice to listen to. Story wise it absolutely sucks and shouldn’t have been in the finale at all. But it sounds pleasant.  This is one of those songs that could pop up randomly on the radio and I would just think it it a nice sad break up song. I can’t say that about some of the other misplaced songs in the show. This one however, you can very much, absolutely divorce this song from the narrative and it would be fine.  Now that’s not good writing, and it’s very much a waste of limited resources, but I’m rating the music here first and story second.
12. Buddy Song
Tumblr media
The Buddy Song also absolutely did not need to exist but it also sounds nice. Plus, it makes use of Lance so I’m a little more lenient towards it.   I can’t however place it higher since it really is just Alan Menken ripping off Alan Menken. Like, I would not be at all surprised to find out that this was originally a deleted song for Aladdin or something.
11. Bigger Than That
Tumblr media
What can I say, Lance just gets good songs. When the show bothers to give them to him.  Unfortunately, it’s not the best placed. It kind of interrupts the more important drama of Be Very Afraid, and probably should have been saved for a later episode. Especially since it hinges on a plot point that is contradictory to Lance’s character.    We should have gotten a Varian and Rapunzel duet here and given Lance his own episode in the second half of season three. This song could have easily been refitted into being a bonding moment for him and the girls. That would also have filled out the season’s original songs to the usual eight instead of only  seven.
10. Life After Happily Ever After
Tumblr media
Now we’re getting to the good stuff. The top ten. The best of the best.  This song makes the cut for three reasons.  1. It lyrically and musically interesting 2. It does the job of furthering the story and the characters  and 3. Eugene’s part is so damn good.  Like this song could have easily fell down into the ranks of ‘fine but generic’ if it wasn’t for the bridge with Eugene. That puts it over the top and to my mind makes it better than anything from the OG film. (well almost anything, Mother Knows Best is still great)    This is the barometer by which I measure all of the music in the series. Is it better or worse than Life After Happily Ever After? Because this is the level that I equate good musicals with.  What keeps on the tenth spot and not higher is the dialogue that still left on the soundtrack and the lack of a Cassandra introduction. That and also the rest of the songs are just flat better.
9. Hurt Incantation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hurt, Decay, Reverse, whatever you want to call it, this was such a cool fucking concept. One that was utterly wasted by the show.  I place this so high because it just sounds awesome! It looks good too, and it offered up so many possibilities from a story perspective.  What lets it down is the lack of follow up for it and it’s too short. There’s needed to be another verse. It also should have been on the actual soundtrack instead of  Hook Foot’s Ballad.  (The Heal Incantation also was sung in What the Hair, but I’m not counting it since it was written for the film)
8.  The Girl Who Has Everything (Reprise)
Tumblr media
I hate the initial song and the set up that it took to get here, but I love this reprise. It’s perfect. This is what the story needed more of. Rapunzel taking her life into her hands, and her proposing to Eugene would have been the perfect capstone for her arc.  In fact I’m angry we didn’t actually get that. There’s absolutely no reason why Rapunzel couldn’t have done so and we could have had her and Eugene engaged during the second half of season three. How much better would have it been if Cassandra threatened their wedding plans and that’s why they couldn’t go through with it until after the series ended? So much more tension that way.
7. I Got This
Tumblr media
This is a really good song that actually futhers the characters and the narrative. Moreover it’s refreshing to see the heroine not be perfect and to fail sometimes due to her own inadequacies. It’s just a shame that the series didn’t follow through with this set up, but I appreciate the attempt all the same.
6.  Set Yourself Free
Tumblr media
This is the only song in the series that’s an actual satisfying pay off for anything. Music wise it’s nothing too special, but in terms of context it just works. We were sorely deprived of such resolutions and songs with actual meaning in the show.
5. View From Up Here
Tumblr media
This song is too good for the episode it actually appears in. We needed something like this back in season one to introduce Cassandra with. It also sadly doesn’t fit with the wider narrative after season three. However I shall still appreciate it as a ‘what might have been’ type song.
4.  Let Me Make You Proud
Tumblr media
The only reason why this song isn’t higher is just overexposure and I’ve no one to blame but myself for that. I’ve listened to this song way too many times. As such it tends to alternate between this, View from Up Here, and the next song on the list. But make no mistake it is glorious. Fantastic instrumentals, set up, and of course amazing vocals.
3.  Everything I Ever Thought I Knew
Tumblr media
Yes, I know this plot point didn’t lead anywhere, but it works for this song at least. Also Eugene’s VA is a really underrated singer. He sounds nice and he emotes really well.  Though I’ll be honest, this jumped up to third place because it was fresh in my mind after listening to the soundtrack before making this list. I’ve always liked the song and I do rate it highly, but it can change places with Let Me Make You Proud and View from Up Here at anytime depending on my mood.
2.  Let Me Make You Proud (Reprise)
Tumblr media
This song is heartbreaking!  Story wise it probably shouldn’t exist because it gives away the twist too soon, but who cares, it’s awesome!  Varian’s arc is the most compelling in the show and the only thing that saves TTS from falling into mediocre obscurity; and it’s songs like this that help make the arc stand out even more than it already does.
1. Ready As I’ll Ever Be
Tumblr media
I said it before and I’ll say it again; Ready As I’ll Ever Be is the greatest thing Alan Menken has ever written in his entire career!  If you know anything about the multiple award winning songwriter then you know that is no faint praise and I do not dole it out lightly.  This song is the reason why this show even has a fanbase. People are still getting into the series because of this song. And no matter how many times you listen to it just rocks!   It’s complex, layered, moody, and with a fantastic beat and energy. The performances are wonderful and the instrumentation glorious. It belongs in the hollows of Disney’s greatest hits and not regulated to a spin-off tv show that failed to make its money back.  I weep for the lost potential that this song and this show had. It hurts to know that so many people will never see this flash of brilliance that has come out of the House of Mouse, will never know the wonderfulness that is Varian.  Ah, ‘c'est la vie’, I suppose. Tangled the Series got what it deserved, but it's crew did not. While I can not in all honesty recommend the series in full; I do sincerely urge any Disney fan to check out the songs at the very least. Especially this one.  And that’s it. There’s my official ranking of all the songs, and I hope those of you read my Tangled reviews appreciate the hours it took into making this.

Fic: But Not Tonight (7/?)
Summary: Dave asks his best friend Alan to go to the prom with him. Pairing: Dave/Alan Notes: One of the silly little things I wrote for @pinksyndication @what-could-have-been @songsofgayanddevotion @rvphinas-blog!
Part 1: here. Part 2: here. Part 3: here. Part 4: here. Part 5: here. Part 6: here.
.
The hall is filled with almost the entire student population of Barstable; even most of the lower secondary students are attending as dates or friends. The music booming over the speakers is something bright and poppy from the current UK charts, and Dave laughs at the open disdain on Alan’s face. He can’t wait to surprise Alan later with his own secret song request, provided that Daryl doesn’t forget.
Fletch is already waving at people and greeting acquaintances whom Dave also vaguely recognises, while Martin’s wings attract several gasps of delight and wolf-whistles. Alan seems happy to blend into the background, shooting Dave an extremely amused look as a flock of girls run over to squeal over Martin’s outfit. Martin is laughing, face a little red with embarrassment and the alcohol they’d already consumed in the limo. Dave just shakes his head with a grin, hoping his friend truly does get crowned Prom King tonight.
“Let’s go say hi to Vince and Daryl,” Fletch suggests, pointing to one of the tables near the sound booth. After they manage to extract Martin from his fans, the four of them make their way across the dance floor, Dave nodding and smiling as various people clap him on the shoulder in greeting. Everyone else looks utterly glamorous, the girls dolled up for the night while the blokes are dressed sharply in long-sleeved shirts and pressed trousers, some of them wearing blazers like Dave and Alan.
Still, no one else in the entire place could even compare to the bloke beside him. Dave can’t quite take his eyes off Alan, who is his usual calm and cool self, observing everything around him and occasionally leaning back to share a remark with Dave. Dave just nods at whatever Alan is saying and smiles giddily at him, trying not to stare at his mouth. He still can’t believe Alan is here as his date.
“...you’re not listening to a word I’m saying, are you?” Alan’s words jolt Dave out of his haze. Alan’s expression is both amused and fondly exasperated.
“Sorry,” Dave says, not at all apologetic as he licks his own lips. “My mind was somewhere else.”
Now Alan’s gaze has dropped down to his mouth as well. “Be patient,” Alan says with a chuckle, squeezing Dave’s arm. “The night is still young.”
Daryl and Vince welcome them with cheers and several glasses of fancy punch, which is sadly non-alcoholic as the teachers are standing guard by the punch bowl. Vince is actually dressed in a proper pinstriped suit, while Daryl is wearing jeans and the school t-shirt, the uniform for the AV team tonight. “Are you two aware that you’re wearing matching blazers?” Daryl says, gesturing towards Dave and Alan with his cup.
“Yeah, it was on purpose,” Alan says, much to Dave’s surprise. He flashes a sideways apologetic grin at Dave. “Sorry, Sue sent me a picture when you went shopping. I couldn’t resist.”
Dave is in awe of his devious sister and his equally devious-- friend? Boyfriend? He doesn’t know yet. “Bloody hell,” he says in an admiring tone. “Clever bastard.”
Vince’s eyes are roving over the both of them, taking in Alan’s corsage and Dave’s rose. “You’re here together,” he says, deadpan. “Like, together together.”
“Very much so,” Alan says without batting an eyelid, while Dave just reaches down and takes Alan’s hand in his.
“Huh.” Vince doesn’t look very surprised. Instead he holds out his hand to Fletch, who mutters something and fishes out his wallet, plonking a fiver on Vince’s palm as Martin and Daryl laugh very loudly at this exchange.
“You lot bet on us?” Dave is more amazed than upset, while Alan is just grinning at the whole thing. Dave’s wondering if he’s recently been more obvious than he let on.
“I thought Vince was off his head,” Fletch says with a sigh. “But I knew I lost when Mart figured out you two were going together.”
“I told you not to take that bet,” Martin chides him. “Why do you never listen to me?”
“Oh well.” Fletch shrugs it off. “So you lads want to dance?”
“Can’t,” Daryl groans, checking his watch. “I’ve got to head back for DJ-ing duties before some smartarse takes over and plays Nickelback for an hour.”
“I hardly think playing a Spotify playlist qualifies one as a DJ,” Alan says dryly, ducking when Daryl tosses a balled-up napkin at him in retaliation. Daryl drops a wink at Dave before he heads back to the sound booth, which assures a relieved Dave that he remembers his request for Alan.
They sit around Vince’s table and chat loudly over the music, groaning and booing Daryl every time he picks something by Ed Sheeran. “I’m going to go over and cheer up Flood,” Alan tells Dave at one point, gesturing towards the sound booth. “Poor sod picked the short straw and is on duty tonight as well.”
“Tell him I said hi.” Dave tries his best to look as unaffected as possible, the way Alan always does so effortlessly. But some of his jealousy must show on his face, because Alan is smiling before leaning in to brush his lips against Dave’s, lingering a little longer than he had for the previous kisses.
“I’ll be back.” Just three simple words, but Alan’s voice is laced with promise so Dave’s smile is far more genuine this time. Dave watches him stride off to where the AV crew are.
“Wow,” he hears Vince say. “If I’d known how bad it was, I would have wagered more money.”
“Me too,” Martin says with a laugh. “Could have afforded a halo to go with my wings.”
“Excuse me, are you pissheads discussing how you want to rob me blind?” Fletch says, pretending to be indignant.
Shaking his head, Dave leaves his friends to squabble it out while he goes to fetch more punch for himself and Alan. The dance floor is heaving with people, many couples provocatively entwined as they groove to the rhythm of the music. Dave is pleased to see that he and Alan aren’t the only same-sex couple in attendance. There’s a few girls dancing with each other, and even the blond captain of the visiting football team from Brum is here with his boyfriend, the equally tall, dark-haired bloke that all the girls in school keep sighing over.
“Already shopping around?” Alan’s very amused voice huffs in his ear, a hand wrapping around his waist. “I’m very jealous.”
Dave relaxes and leans back in Alan’s hold, smiling like a lunatic. “You’re just in time, Al. I was about to run off with the mailman.”
Alan merely chuckles before pressing a kiss to Dave’s neck, which makes him shiver. The music has changed to something slow and dirty with Spanish lyrics; although Dave barely understands a word of it, he lets the melody wash over him as his hips sway from side to side.
“This song’s really good,” he hears Alan remark. “What’s it called?”
“No idea.” Dave jerks his head towards the crowd. “Want to dance?”
Alan is eyeing the masses thoughtfully. “I’m not really good at it.”
“It’s easy, c’mon.” Dave turns around in Alan’s arms, putting down their glasses of punch on a nearby table for safekeeping. Now they’re standing face to face, Alan’s eyes warm as they slide down Dave’s body. Dave clears his throat, reminding himself not to jump on Alan in front of almost the whole bloody school.
“Okay, so-- like this.” Dave puts his hands on Alan’s hips, his throat going dry at the feel of that firm muscle under his palms. “Just follow the beat of the snare, yeah? So, on every ‘two’, just move your hips to the right. On every four-- the left. Got it?”
Alan nods, an adorable look of concentration on his face as he tries to follow Dave’s directions. Dancing is something that comes so easily and naturally to Dave, so it’s hard to break it down into instructions for someone else. Then again, playing the piano is second nature for Alan, but Dave is completely crap at it despite Alan’s repeated attempts to teach him.
“Am I getting it?” Alan’s frowning a little, his hips rotating a little stiffly.
“You’re overthinking it, mate.” Dave tries to guide him with his hands, but Alan is still trying too hard to get it perfect. So he tries to think of the best way to distract Alan, to catch him off guard so that he’ll let his body take over instead of focusing too much on that brilliant mind of his.
Dave tips Alan’s chin up, grinning at him before he leans in and kisses him slowly, their lips brushing together, his tongue tracing the edge of Alan’s teeth. He feels it the exact moment Alan’s body loosens against his, his hips pliant under Dave’s grip now, both of them moving along to the sensuous rhythm like they’re part of it. When Dave breaks the kiss, he laughs at Alan’s stupefied expression. “Yeah Charlie, just like that.”

Andromeda |  Spencer Reid x Reader
WC: 1865
Warnings: SPOILERS FOR 03x05 AND THE SECOND HALF OF SEASON 12, prison Reid, mentions of trauma/anxiety/therapy.
A/N: Remember this post?  I was talking about this fic. Anyways, the concept of both Spencer and Reader being groomed for the BAU was one that intrigued me so I wrote this. One day I’ll get tired of writing for this universe but today is not that day. Enjoy!
GALAXY MASTERLIST (not needed to understand the plot but there’s similar content here if you liked this fic!)
You had seen a lot of bad things in your life, but hands down the worst thing you had ever seen was Spencer Reid sitting on the other side of the partition in the prison visiting room. As always your proximity to the doctor cleared your head and relaxed you in a way you hadn’t felt in weeks, but due to the circumstances you knew it was only because he was alive.
“I don’t like this,” you wasted no time making your feelings known.
“I know, me neither,” even though he was alive, you could tell your friend was in rough shape, “how are you doing?”
You breathed a laugh, “I should be asking you that.”
“I’m the same as I was when Garcia visited last week, and we both know she called you as soon as she left here.”
He was right, Penelope had filled you in on everything he had said when she had gone for her visit the week prior.
“Have you gone back to work yet?”
“Yeah, but I’m still not allowed in the field. My therapist keeps telling Emily I’m compromised,” you rolled your eyes, “I think being back in the field would help me compartmentalize better than doing paperwork in Penelope’s office.”
“What have you been doing outside of work?”
“Has my therapist talked to you too? Yeesh,” you rolled your eyes again, causing Spencer to crack a smile, “I’ve been spending a lot of time with Luke, he reminds me of some of the guys from my Platoon. He lets me watch Roxy when the team is traveling, and we go to a veteran’s support group every Tuesday. I don’t think he actually needs the support but he definitely knows I don’t go if he’s not there.”
Spencer sighed, “support groups are good, is it helping?”
“I don’t know,” you shrugged, “I already did the work to cope with my time in the military years ago. The problem isn’t my military trauma, the problem is that my best friend is in prison and the constant anxiety is dredging up old wounds.”
Your eyes narrowed, aware that he was definitely doing a light psych eval of you in that brain of his. You half expected him to start spouting exactly what was happening in your brain that was causing the increased frequency of your episodes, but it never came.
“Will you keep going, for me?”
“Sure, but only because you asked. And if Luke says anything about it you can’t tell him I don’t think it’s working.”
“Deal,” the light banter was the most normal thing that had happened to you since bringing Spencer home from Mexico.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“I know you’re a super genius and everything, but do you ever feel like you weren’t cut out for the BAU even though you were groomed for it?”
“Yeah, I had to get waived on every physical part of training and failed my gun certification an embarrassing number of times even after I was hired. I wouldn’t have gotten the job if Gideon didn’t do some serious vouching for me. Do you… do you feel like that?” You thought it was ironic that Spencer was concerned for you when he was the one in jail.
“Out of everyone in my class at the Academy, Rossi and Hotch picked me. There were at least four other agents that were better at profiling than I was, I was not the obvious choice. My entire career has been defined by joining the BAU and yet I still get hit with some serious imposter syndrome, especially since you’ve been gone. Sometimes I wonder where I would have ended up if I hadn’t been picked, what kind of agent I’d be.”
“You would have ended up with the Hostage Rescue Team,” you knew Spencer was a know-it-all, but you were surprised at his confidence and quick response.
“How do you figure?” you questioned, watching the tips of his ears turn red as he blushed.
“Garcia and I overheard Hotch and Rossi talking about you when they came back from recruiting. We did some… ‘spelunking’ and found your file.”
“Anything juicy in there?” you teased, thoroughly amused at the image of Spencer and Penelope huddled around her desk investigating you.
“No. It said you were ex-military and had been psychologically discharged. We didn’t dig deeper into that, but I could see signs of anxiety the first time I met you so it wasn’t really going to be a secret anyways.”
“Fair, so how did you know about Hostage Rescue?”
“There was a note from their unit chief that they wanted you. It makes sense, you passed the field tests in the Academy with flying colors and you’re exceptional in the field. You would do really well on a tactical team.”
“In theory, until I have a panic attack and get thirty people killed,” you joked, “they probably asked Hotch to take me because I’d have the smallest chance of being a liability in the BAU.”
“Actually, Hotch said he liked how you had approached the exercise they had given you.”
You remembered that day like it was yesterday, Hotch and Rossi had come into your class with the bare bones of a case: an abducted child in a mall a week following a prior abduction of a similar nature. As a collective you had to solve the case, asking the right questions to get the information you needed from the two Supervisory Special Agents.
Your previously mentioned classmates that had a knack for profiling were quick to build a few theories and get a bit more information, including a glimpse of the girl on a security camera, but there were still a lot of missing pieces. Something about the whole thing felt off to you, so you finally spoke up.
“What if it was someone in her family?” Your classmates looked at you in confusion, a few of them jumping up to reiterate the evidence against your suggestion. “I see your point, and I’ll support the group if you still think I’m wrong, but hear me out. There’s evidence of the abduction being personal. I don’t think it’s related to the prior case at all.”
“The family has been with us the whole time,” one of your classmates argued.
“The father?” someone else suggested.
“No, not him,” your brain was working hard, “I think it was the aunt, Susan.”
“Well done, Agent,” you heard Agent Hotchner over the clamor of the room at your suggestion.
“Do you want to back up your theory?” Rossi asked once your classmates had settled down.
“Her husband shows signs of grooming Katie: he knows more about his niece than he does his own kid. If his wife noticed, she might be trying to protect her family. She was probably ashamed that her husband was a pedophile, her son had a record, and her marriage was falling apart. Susan already said she worked retail in a mall, even if she didn’t work at this mall she’d at least have knowledge of how malls work and where she could hide a body. The abduction from the previous week would have given her something to pin Katie’s disappearance on, and Katie would have trusted her enough to go somewhere without an obvious struggle.”
“Bingo, Agent…?” Rossi looked at you for your name.
“(y/l/n),” you offered.
“Susan took her own pain out on Katie. Our agents were able to recover Katie’s body and resuscitate her, and both Susan and her husband were brought into custody.”
Later, as class was dismissed, you were approached by the two men.
“What was it that made you look deeper into the family as suspects?” Hotch had asked.
“I just had a feeling, sir,” you told him honestly.
“What kind of feeling?” Rossi seemed genuinely interested in what you were saying.
“A gut feeling. I know we’re supposed to use the facts, and all the facts were presenting themselves as becoming a serial abduction, but it just didn’t feel right to me. When I started exploring other possibilities the relevant evidence jumped right out.”
“Sometimes we get cases with barely enough information to make decisions from. Following instincts can lead to breakthroughs that solve the whole case. Keep up the good work,” Hotch shook your hand before walking away with Rossi right behind him.
“Yeah, I went out on a limb with that one. I’ll tell you about it later,” you shook your head, knowing you didn’t have enough time to tell Spencer the whole story. He was quiet for a minute, glancing around the room before he spoke again.
“If I can’t get out of here, I think you should look into transferring to Hostage Rescue.”
“You’re not serious, are you? You’re getting out of here. I’m seeing to it personally,” you said it like it was a fact. His face told you he wasn’t kidding.
“Let me ask you this- if I’m found guilty at my trial, how are you going to take it?”
You wanted to tell him you would be fine and continue to fight for his freedom, but you both knew there was a reason your therapist wasn’t clearing you for field work that would only get worse if your best friend had to serve upwards of 25 years in jail.
The BAU without Spencer Reid just wouldn’t be the same BAU you fell in love with when Hotch and Rossi had hired you all those years ago.
“Do you really think the brass would approve a transfer to an anti-terrorism tactical unit when I can’t even get cleared for field work now?” you countered.
“I do. Your coping mechanisms are well developed. If you separate yourself from the BAU… and me… I think you could pass their psych eval just fine. And everyone knows your tactical skills are off the charts, even after you’ve taken time off.”
“You’re not a very good genius if you think you can get rid of me that easily,” you were quick to point out, “even if I did transfer, I’d still be here as much as possible. Penelope wouldn’t let me cut myself off that easily from the rest of the team either.”
“Just think about it, please.”
You sighed, “I’ll think about it, but I’m still holding out that we’re proving your innocence and you and I will be back to our shenanigans in no time.”
“I’m looking forward to it. How’s my mom doing?”
“She’s been ok, I visit every day and JJ usually comes with me. Cassie’s been really great for her,” you told him.
“Good, will you tell her I-“
“Prisoners line up!” a guard yelled.
“Will you tell her I love her?” Spencer said quickly as he stood. You nodded, watching as he lined up with the other inmates and walked away.
As you left the prison you told yourself you were never getting used to this, and you were going to start working double time on proving Spencer’s innocence. There was no family like your BAU family, and whoever had framed Spencer was not going to destroy that so easily.

interdimensional Dads 3
Jaune:Alright, you’re up Blue. Tell all about a world where we manage to get our Beacon crush. That’s how I know you aren’t lying when you say there’s magic in your Remnant again.
Jaune:Magic had nothing to do with it! It’s called time and life. Also I told her I was going to cut my hair and she felt appalled so I didn’t. She told me how much she loves it a little shaggy.
...
Jaune:What?
Jaune:(Did cutting my hair really change my life that much?) It’s nothing, continue.
Jaune:Okay? Well, where to start? I guess the magic is as good of a place as any. Not much on the surface has changed. The climate seems to be a bit more intense though. The gods are back as well, but no one knows exactly where.
Jaune:It’s not on any map?
Jaune:No, apparently it’s constantly changing. Those who get close to finding it usually get turned around by something. Even Oscar doesn’t know.
Jaune:Oscar is still himself? Oz didn’t take over?
Jaune:Why would be? We saved the world and he got to move on. Oscar does however still have all the memories and experience. Not to mention the one hell of a fighter. Though these days he prefers using all that knowledge for counciling.
Jaune:Good for him.
Jaune:He’s a therapist? Huh, yeah he’s definitely been through hell and back in all of our lives. I never really stop to think how crazy it all was.
Jaune:He’s also married to Penny.
Jaune:Penny is back!?
Jaune:Your world is kicking my world’s ass.
Jaune:It’s pretty wild for sure. Yet it feels vaguely normal. Most of my time is spent still doing huntsman work. I take bodyguard missions mostly these days since they normally aren’t as dangerous. Saving towns from grimm is something I have to leave to the others like Ruby. Weiss gets a little anxious otherwise; even more than the kids do these days.
Jaune:Now for the good part, gushing about your kids.
Jaune:*smiling* Nicholas and Summer Schnee, my little Twin Snowflakes. Both sixteen and quite the handful.
Jaune:You know of any of us needed to have twins, I’m glad it’s the one who married into wealth.
Jaune:Well you’re sorta right. However, Weiss was cut off for years until her father wrote her back into the family on his deathbed. So she’s become financially savvy from having to live in Argus for years. That includes the kids when they were little and even a pet dog. I’d like to think we’ve both grown up through the years but she’s definitely changed more than me.
Jaune:I think that might be true for all of us.
Jaune:Hehe, I got a feeling you’re right.
Jaune:Yeah my Weiss has gone through some shit and took it strides as well.
Jaune:Anyways, being rich is nice but we did pretty fine before it. Yeah we had to work constantly but it’s not like there wasn’t anybody we couldn’t ask for help. I say by far the craziest thing about my world is team RWBY is now a connected on the family tree and then some.
Jaune:Wait...that would mean- who married a Schnee besides you! Qrow married Winter and that’s it right!? Right!?
Jaune:*smiling* Is someone a little jealous of thinking about a world where Ruby married Whitley?
Jaune:...A little.
Jaune:I guess I can spare you those details then. Just know they’ve done some real good for Remnant.
Jaune:That, I didn’t doubt for a second. It’s just a little weird hearing she isn’t with me.
Jaune:You named your kids after Weiss’s grandfather and Ruby’s mom?
Jaune:Nick is the future heir and Summer got her name because....sigh
....
Jaune:It was the right thing to do.
The other’s didn’t probe that avenue any further. Without saying anything, they already knew.
Jaune:Ruby must really appreciate that.
Jaune:Yeah. She might not realize it but she shows a little bias to Summer because of it. Not that Nick particularly cares. I think he might enjoy not being on someone’s radar for once.
Jaune:Let me guess, Mr. Popular?
Jaune:President at combat school, runner up in regionals, gold in figure skating, future heir, master of promoting various events and hosting parties. Kid has it made, and yet...
Jaune:He doesn’t seem to be having fun? I think we might’ve found a similar thread between our kids.
Jaune:Makes sense. Nick has the same problem I still have sometimes.
Jaune:Overthinking?
Jaune:Taking the blow for others?
Jaune:Burdening himself for no reason.
Jaune:Yes....
Jaune:Oh...
Jaune:He’s the kind of kid who finds a way to finish work quickly so he can finish other work faster; in a never ending loop. All for the sake of making others lives easier. This also causes him to tunnel vision sometimes and not really ask what that person wanted in the first place. That, or he puts himself in a position where he doesn’t get to enjoy being a teenager. It’s partly the reason why Weiss and I don’t give him too much slack whenever he does something for the fun of it.
Jaune.Even in a time of peace, someone like him is taking a lot of responsibilities. Not sure if that’s an Arc thing or a Schnee thing.
Jaune:Trust me, it’s both. He seems to be handling it well though. Weiss really gets on him about taking time to just be himself. Honestly it feels like there’s a couple times he’s even trying to put on a face for us instead of cameras. Fortunately people like Valerie and Veronica seem to cut through that act.
Jaune:Oooh, lady friends?
Jaune:Valerie is Ren and Nora’s kid. He has a giant crush on her but I sort of think he tries too hard and should consider looking elsewhere.
Jaune:That’s ironic coming from you.
Jaune:That’s how you know it’s bad. Me, the guy who wrote a terrible song just to get a date to the dance. To be fair he’s not that bad but I feel like he’ll end crushing his confidence. I mean Veronica would be nice. Blake and Yang’s daughter has a thing for him that’s just as obvious for his crush on Val.
Jaune:(Huh, that’s two sets of different kids from the same parents now. I guess some relationships are harder to change than others.) Nick sounds like a fine young man. I bet things will workout. He seems bright.
Jaune:Yeah, I just hope nothing blows up in his face. As for Summer, she’s practically the spitting image of her mother except with my eyes and light blonde hair. She’s pretty timid and a really kind girl. Smart as a whip too! Definitely got that from her mom; as well as her singing.
Jaune:She performs?
Jaune:Yeah, Atlas loves her music. She has good range, learned guitar from yours truly, tops the charts sometimes in other kingdoms, and genuinely seems to enjoy the life of a singer.
Jaune:But she’s timid?
Jaune:Yeah. Off the stage, she tries to get by life like a background character, but still wants to hang around Nick who’s always in a spotlight! When she was younger she got into a incident with dust that severely injured her. Thankfully she lived but now Summer has several scars over her body that she can’t stand. Also...that wasn’t all she got. Scars are least of her problems. The dust mixed with her cells in unexpected ways.
Jaune:Over exposer, did she get some sort of chronic illness or deficiency?
Jaune:Honestly, we don’t know what to call it. Whenever she gets too cold, Summer changes. Her hair goes white, eyes look like mother, and her personality does a 180. More than that actually. It’s more like she’s been possessed and what’s nothing more to rule everything. We call it Shiva. We have it under control mostly after ten years of dealing with it but there’s still scares now and then. Whatever Shiva is, she’s strong and capable of terrible things. Thankfully no casualties yet, but plenty of close calls and extra scars for almost everyone involved. The mental strain it puts on Summer almost seems crippling. I...don’t really know what to do about it at this point. She’s been distant, and I feel like she isn’t telling me something.
Jaune:....
Jaune:Well...you haven’t lost anything yet right?
Jaune:Huh?
Jaune:Don’t look so bummed. Ten years and nothing too tragic to show for it. Maybe it’s luck, or everyone is way stronger than this problem after all. Including your daughter. Trust me, daughters are way stronger than what father’s give them credit for.
Jaune:Ha, you know he might be on to something with that. You heard my story. Yujin was keeping things together for a long time. That being said, they’re still our little angels and can only go so far. Eventually they’re gonna wish to see someone like their dear old dad to to lean on. That’s our job after all.
Jaune:Yep. You’ll figure it. Like you said, you’re not alone.
Jaune:I might have a daughter but I know a thing or two about distant kids. Take it a step at a time, and let them know you’re always there.
Jaune:...*smiles* Thanks guys.
Jaune:No problem!
Jaune:I wonder what’s up with those two right now? Probably training for their tournament no doubt.
xxxx
Training is putting it lightly. The cold Argus air is filled with smoke as a fire burns in the forest. Nick kneels with his sword stabbed int ground. His body trembles from exhaustion and sweat runs down his face while his hands still grip the blade handle til his palms bleed. Surrounding him is Apathy as pale as ghost with ghastly blue eyes that make them look like they’re right out of horror movie.
Though he’s tired, he manages to lift his head up and see his sister on her hands and knees, not as roughed up as him but more drained from the grimm. Summer looked at her brother with eyes that constantly flickered between shades of blue before turning the shade of their father’s. Summer fell forward, all motivation to move taken away.
Nick:You okay...?
Summer:Y-Yeah...thanks. Sorry.
Nick:Next time....we’ll bring Ruby just in case.
He found the strength to walk towards his sister and carried her on his back. The summoned Apathy keeping a certain range around them like a dome as he walked. Summer found whatever strength she had to raise her right hand up and snapped her fingers. A cool wind came off her finger tips and snuffed out flames before it got out of hand.
Summer:Can’t have this place burning down right?
Nick:You’re gonna get cold again.
Summer:She’s tired...and I’m spent. Even if she comes out, my body can’t move so...zzzzz
Nick:Sigh, saw that coming.
Nicholas walked as fast as his body let him. Abandoning both of their swords in favor or retrieving them later. They’d gotten lucky, the sun was out and he had handled the situation before Shiva could find her stride. Warm clothing also did its part.
He felt Summer shift around on his back and started moving faster. He hated this part.
Nick:I don’t wanna talk to you.
Shiva:That’s no way to treat family.
Nick:But an icicle to the leg is?
Shiva:How else was I supposed to slow you down? You’ve gotten stronger, dodging it the way you did. How unpleasant for me. I’ll aim higher next time, I’ll make sure not to rough up that money maker of yours though.
Nick:Next time I’ll throw you in the fire so you’ll be too tired to talk. Your days are numbered. It must be a pain dealing with me and trying to keep control. Sooner or later you won’t be able to do anything but lose until Summer snuffs you out. Then you’ll be nothing more than a bad dream.
Shiva:....Hmmm aha!
Shiva:I’ve decided then. I guess I’ll just have to kill you first before that happens.
A chill went down his spine as he could feel her ice cold breath hit his ear as she whispersed...
Shiva:Let’s see if I’ll be a bad dream them.
Nick looked over his shoulder and saw nothing but his sister’s sleeping face. Not a sign of anyone or anything else; just peaceful slumber. The boy continued walking in silence. He was still sweating, still trembling, but no longer from the cold. Exhaustion crumbled to adrenaline. He started going back to the sight of their training to grab his sword. After all, who knows what could happen on the way back?

Let You in on a Little Secret
This story was an idea that just popped in my head and I couldn’t get it out until I wrote it down. It takes place in a season 12 AU where Cristina never left, Derek is still alive, and Jo divorced Paul with the help of Alex after confiding in him about her past at the end of season 9 (before the tree crashes into the living room). This is my first Jolex and Grey’s fic so I hope you like it!!
To say he was excited would be an understatement. He was bursting with joy, anticipation, and love. He had tried his best to contain it, truly, but he was sure that he had weirded a few of the nurses out with the large grin that was on his face. He hoped no one would care enough to ask, because if they asked, he didn’t know how long he’d be able to keep this secret to himself. And that was saying something, because despite his bluntness and honesty, Alex Karev was a private and guarded person. He knew how to keep a secret if necessary. But today was different. Today he was walking on air. Today he was happy. Today he had finally grown up.
Making his way into the attendings’ lounge, he hoped he wouldn’t run into anyone. He entered the lounge to find it empty and poured himself a cup of coffee before sitting on the couch to read through a patient chart. He was alone for about ten minutes when the lounge filled with people. He looked up from his coffee and smiled, “Hey guys.”
“Karev, what’s with the look on your face?” Jackson asked.
“Ooh he’s making the ‘I just got laid face!’ Did you and Wilson do it in an on-call room?” Yang teased.
“No I did not just get laid. I’m just in a good mood today,” He answered.
“Alex Karev in a good mood? Yeah I’ll believe that when pigs fly,” Callie snorted.
“Whatever, I can be in a good mood if I want to. I had a great night, a great morning, a successful tumor resection, a cool surgery scheduled today, and I get to tell a kid and his parents that we found a lung after 2 years of searching.”
There was a pause before Cristina spoke, “Ah! So he got laid last night and this morning.”
There was a chorus of laughters as Meredith walked into the lounge. “What are we laughing about?” She asked.
“Alex is all bright and shiny today because he got laid last night and this morning,” Cristina wiggles her eyebrows.
“Shut up,” Alex grumbled. “I already told you guys. I’m not smiling because I got laid. I told you, I’ve been having a very good day today. I’m allowed to smile.”
Meredith’s eyes widened as she walked over and pressed her hand to his forehead, “Well he doesn’t have a fever so it’s definitely not the delirium talking.”
Alex rolled his eyes, “You know what? I’m not gonna let it bother me. I’m having a good day and I’m not gonna let anyone ruin it. I’m gonna go see patients.”
*****
A few hours later, he was at the nurses station updating a few charts when he felt a pair of airs wrap around his waist. Smiling, he pulled them closer to him before turning, “Hey.”
“Hey,” a beaming Jo answered.
“How’s your day been so far?”
“Great! Callie keeps asking me why I’m smiling so wide today. She mentioned that you seemed to be in a very good mood this morning and asked me if we had really hot sex this morning.”
Alex laughed, “Yeah... they kept teasing me about the goofy look on my face while we were in the lounge. Yang was convinced that we had just come back from a quickie in an on-call room.”
Jo chuckled, “If only they knew the real reason we’re so giddy today. I think they might combust.”
“You’re probably right. I know we said we weren’t gonna make a big deal about it yet but, I’ve gotta tell someone before I spontaneously combust.”
“Okay, you can tell one person. But they must be sworn to secrecy. Also, I think I would be kind of hypocritical to say that you can’t talk to anyone about it because I kind of already called Ms. Schmidt this morning on my way in before rounds.”
Alex looked at her in disbelief, “I can’t believe you spilled before I did. You owe me thirty bucks.”
“Haha, I know. I’m so weak.” Jo exclaimed.
“No you’re not,” Alex shook his head. “You’re just excited and happy and so am I. I mean, I’m scared out of my freaking mind but, I’m happy.”
Jo smiled softly at him, “I love you.”
“I love you more,” he said before kissing her. “Okay, you gotta go before Torres gets on your ass about wandering off during work hours.”
“Ugh, I know. I’ll see you later!” She called as she walked away.
Smiling to himself again, he made his way over to the elevator. When the doors opened, he found himself face to face with Meredith Grey. He smiled at his friend as he pushed the buttons for the peds floor. They stood in silence for a minute before Meredith the emergency stop button, “Okay seriously. What the hell is going on with you? You’re scaring me with that happy look on your face. Who are you and what have you done to Alex Karev?”
Alex huffed out a breath, “It’s nothing, Mer. I’m just happy, is all.”
Meredith looked at him skeptically for a moment and let out a gasp, “Oh my God! You proposed, didn’t you?”
“What?” Alex scrunched his face, “No I didn’t propose. You’re still holding onto the ring. But speaking of rings, I think I’m gonna need to back soon.”
“So you’re gonna do it? You’re gonna propose!”
“Soon, yeah. I finally feel like things are coming together and the time is right, ya know?”
Meredith nodded, “I do. But I still don’t get why you are in such a good mood today. You haven’t proposed yet.”
Alex sighed, “Okay. I’m going to let you in on a little secret. But you have to swear you won’t tell anyone. Not Cristina. Not Shepherd. Not Torres. Not Zola. Not even your damn pillow. You’ve got to be sworn to secrecy.”
“I swear.”
“Okay,” Alex took a steadying breath. “Jo and I have been talking about fostering kids. We both had really rough childhoods and wanted to make a difference in some kid’s life. So we went through the whole process and got approved two weeks ago. Last night we got a call that we’ve been placed and we’re getting a four year old kid at the end of the week. And to top it all off, this morning, we found out that Jo is pregnant.”
“OH MY GOD!” Meredith squealed in joy. She threw her arms around his neck and gave him a giant squeeze, “Oh my God. Alex! I am so happy for you!”
“Thanks,” he replied, allowing the goofy grin to make its way back to his face.
“This is huge! You two are going to be parents!”
“I know,” he laughed. “I can’t believe it. It still feels like I’m dreaming.”
“Well okay, but I need the details! So spill everything.” Meredith said, matching his smile.
“There’s not much to tell. The kid we’re getting is a boy named Beau Carter. His mom died of an overdose and his 19 year old dad was raising him but realized about a year ago that he wasn’t fit to raise a kid so he’s been passed around for the past eleven months. If we’re a good fit, the hope is to foster to adopt. And as for Jo’s pregnancy, we’re not positive how far along she is, but we’re pretty sure she’s about ten weeks or so.”
“Were you guys trying?”
“No,” he chuckled. “We were being careful because we knew we wanted to foster, but you remember the inter mixer Bailey forced us to all go to? Well, Jo and I got pretty drunk that night and I don’t remember using a condom so we’re pretty sure that’s when it happened. We made an appointment with OB for tomorrow morning to find out.”
“Alex! I’m speechless. Now I understand why you’ve had that look on your face all day. I would too!” Meredith beamed. “You’re growing up! You’ve got a girl that loves you, a foster kid, a baby on the way, and you’re going to propose. What the hell happened to you?”
“Haha, I’d say I don’t know but the truth is, I do. Jo happened.”
Meredith patted his face, “Okay. So I’m going to be the godmother, right? I swear if you give it to Cristina, I will haunt you after I die.”
Alex rolled his eyes, “I have to talk to Jo first but yes, I think you’d be the perfect godmother for my kids.”
“You have to come over and get that ring. It’s sitting in my sock drawer. You’re lucky Derek hasn’t found it and started asking questions yet. Or worse, one of my kids.”
“I know. I’ll come get it this weekend. I was hoping we could maybe come over and introduce Beau to the kids. I think it would be a good way to get him to be more comfortable with everyone.”
“Of course!” Meredith nodded. “We can have Sunday brunch with the kids. We can make waffles.”
“Sounds good to me.”
The stood there for a minute taking in the moment before Meredith pulled on the emergency stop button, “We’ve been in here too long. I was so excited about your news I forgot that we have patients.”
“I know me too.”
The elevator doors opened and as he stepped out, Alex heard Meredith call him, “Alex!”
He turned to look at his closest friend, “Yeah?”
“You are going to be great.”
He smiled as he thanked her genuinely. Yeah today was a great day. But he knew it wouldn’t compare to all the amazing tomorrows to come.

Over You
Pairing: Ethan x MC (Isabelle Rosenberg)
Summary: Isabelle struggles to come to terms with her breakup with Ethan, but the two seem unable to stay away from each other.
Author’s Note: Don’t know why all my Ethan fics are full of angst, but here we go again. I’ve been missing OH, so I decided, why not post this little thing I wrote a few weeks ago to try and cope with my desire for the book? Thanks to anyone who reads and (as always) I apologize for any potential typos or grammatical errors.
Word Count: 2,644
---
It felt like electricity shooting through her when Ethan’s hand grazed hers. He studied her face, lines appearing between his brows as he frowned. She had to resist the urge to reach out and smooth them out, the way she once had.
“Isabelle, did you hear a word I said?”
Baz and June watched the two of them, not bothering to hide their suspicious stares. Two months had passed since Ethan and Isabelle made the mutual decision to call their relationship quits, but her heart still ached every single time she saw him. She knew that it was making everyone at the hospital suspicious, but she didn’t care.
“Sorry, Ethan. Could you repeat that?” Heat rushed to her face when his eyes refused to leave her face.
Ethan sighed, taking his glasses off and setting them down on the table. He looked over at Baz and June, who were still watching without a word. Baz raised an eyebrow, his lips twitching as he tried to hold back a smirk.
“Dr. Rosenberg, have you been feeling okay lately? You seem distracted.” The nonchalant tone of Ethan’s voice made Isabelle’s heart ache even more.
She looked down at the table, afraid that if anyone on the diagnostics team saw her eyes, the thoughts running through her mind would be reflected within them. “I’m fine, Dr. Ramsey. I promise I’ll pay better attention.”
Instead of answering, Ethan continued to talk about their latest patient’s symptoms. He kept asking Isabelle questions, ignoring Baz and June’s obvious stares. When they finished for the day, he called out to her.
“Isabelle. Can I have a word?”
“Sure.” She caught June’s eye, and quickly turned away, hating the way the slightest bit of sympathy shone in the doctor’s face. “What is it?”
Ethan waited for the doors to close before he spoke, taking a seat behind his desk. “Something’s on your mind. I’m not an idiot, I can see it. Everyone can see it.”
“It’s nothing.” Telling the truth was not an option. Admitting that she couldn’t focus because she was in love with the head of the diagnostics team, with her associate, would only make things worse.
He watched her, the scowl etched onto his face softening. “Does it have anything to do with me?” Ethan rose from his seat, crossing the room to her. She flinched when he touched her face, running his fingers across her jawline.
“Don’t,” she whispered, not daring to look him in the eyes. “I don’t want to talk about this with you. I can’t.”
For the past two months, she had been telling herself that this was for the best. The feelings that she had for Ethan were beginning to interrupt her work. Long nights spent together in his apartment had made both of them nearly late for work several times a week, and everyone in the hospital had started to look at them differently. Of course, the chances of them knowing about their relationship were high. Breaking things off wouldn’t convince people that something hadn’t been going on before.
“Maybe you should get some more rest. That might do you some good.” Ethan stepped back, clearing his throat. “If there’s anything I can do to help, just let me know.”
Isabelle couldn’t stop herself from snorting, turning away to hide the hurt she felt. Both of them had agreed to end things, and she had thought that it wouldn’t hurt so much getting over him, but she still felt it. Bryce had tried to cheer her up by taking her out to dinner the week before, and while it had been nice for a little while, the guilt eventually forced her to leave.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Ethan,” Isabelle said, keeping her back turned to him. “Enjoy the rest of your day.”
He started to follow her. “Isabelle, wait, I—” The door closed behind her, and she hurried to get as far away from his office as possible.
“What’s up Doc?” Bryce approached her when she reached a nurses’ station, a grin plastered across his face. “You don’t look so happy. Want me to help with that?”
Sighing, she turned to face him. “As much as I appreciate the offer, I’m gonna have to pass.”
He frowned, moving closer to her. “Seriously, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“Fine. I’m fine.” Isabelle started to walk away, but Bryce grabbed her wrist. Surprised, she turned around to look at him.
“You can talk to me about it. I’m here for you.”
Bryce was without a doubt one of the sweetest people she’d ever met. If things had been different, she knew that he was the type of person she would want to spend the rest of her life with. Before there had ever been a possibility of her and Ethan, she’d seen herself ending up with Bryce. The two of them had hooked up on several occasions throughout their intern year.
“I don’t know if I can talk to anyone about it,” she admitted with a sigh.
He pulled her closer to him, leaning against the station as he stared into her eyes. “Does it have anything to do with a certain Dr. Ethan Ramsey?”
“Wha—How did you—”
“Come on, Iz. Do you think the people who work in this hospital are stupid?” Bryce laughed, chewing on his bottom lip as he watched her. “You two were secretly seeing each other.” It wasn’t a question.
With a sigh, she leaned against the station, her arm brushing against Bryce’s. “I suppose there’s no point lying to you. When did you figure it out?”
He smirked, shrugging as he playfully nudged her with his elbow. “I guessed there was something going on between you two when you stopped finding any opportunity to make out with me.”
“Bryce!” She felt heat rush to her face, trying to cover it as he laughed at her. “It’s not funny.”
“Honestly, I think you two make an odd couple. He’s way too broody for you. You seem like the type of person who enjoys having fun.”
Isabelle’s shoulders drooped, memories of times in Ethan’s apartment rushing back. “He’s not so bad once you get to know him. Believe it or not, the man has a sense of humor.”
“Could’ve fooled me.” Bryce looked around before leaning closer. “My offer still stands, by the way. I have a few minutes to spare.”
It was nearly impossible for her to remain upset in his presence. “And what, exactly, are you proposing?”
“Whatever you want.” He reached out to grab a piece of her curly brown hair, twirling it around his finger. She felt her heart begin to race when his brown eyes raised to meet hers. “I’ve been dying to get you alone for a while.”
He was so incredibly good at making her forget about everything. She wasn’t sure if she should love or hate him for it. With a shaky breath, Isabelle’s gaze flickered to the on-call room.
No. That was a horrible idea.
“I have five minutes.” She watched someone else enter the room, part of her relieved.
Bryce groaned as he watched the room become occupied. “Guess that’s out of the question. Think there are any supply closets available?”
Isabelle couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head when she looked up at him. “I’m sure there’s one somewhere. But we’d waste all our time searching for an empty one. I really should get back to work. And so should you.”
“You can talk to me about him, okay?” Bryce took her hand. When their eyes met again, he’d dropped the flirtatious smirk. “I’m here for you. Breakups can be tough. I get it.”
Her voice caught in her throat, and she felt tears threaten to fill her eyes. “I keep telling myself that I’m over him, but I know it’s not true.” Isabelle cleared her throat, standing up straight when she saw Ethan round the corner. Their eyes met, and she forced herself to look back at Bryce. “I’ll talk to you later, okay?”
Bryce frowned, moving to follow her, but Ethan stepped between them. He looked back and forth between the two, his shoulders sagging as he took a step back. “Yeah. Okay. I’ll see you around then. Bye, Iz.”
“Are you certain that you’re fine?” Ethan looked down at her, quickly glancing at the nurse station before he moved closer to her. “We can go somewhere to talk if you need to.”
A bitter laugh escaped her lips as the two of them started to walk down the hallway. “If I need to? I’m an adult, Ethan, I can take care of myself.”
His steps faltered, and he stopped in front of a supply closet. “Isabelle. Maybe we should have a more serious discussion about us. You’ve been distracted the past couple weeks.”
The way he could talk about their relationship so casually caused a sharp pain in her chest. She had told him she loved him the night they decided to call it off. She had told him she loved him, and he hadn’t been able to say it back.
Getting over him should be easy. It wasn’t like she didn’t have options. Bryce was right there, offering to help her in any way he could. But it felt wrong to use him like that. He deserved better.
“What’s left to talk about?” Isabelle asked, trying to keep a neutral expression as she checked the charts for her next patient. “It was a mutual agreement to end our relationship. There’s nothing else to say.”
“We both know that’s not true.” Ethan had a way of making her lose her train of thought just by looking at her. “Why don’t you come to my apartment later, and we have a proper conversation? I want to help you. I want to keep working with you.”
Isabelle refused to look him in the eyes. She kept her attention fixed on the chart, reading over the same information half a dozen times. “I can’t. I’m busy.” If they met outside of the workplace, she knew what would happen. It had been the same story her entire first year on the diagnostics team. A conversation really meant sex, and sex meant that she would fall right back into the trap.
“I—”
“If you don’t mind, Dr. Ramsey, I have patients to attend to.” Isabelle finally looked into his eyes, summoning what little strength she had left to look indifferent. Bored. “I’m sure you have work to do yourself.” She forced a smile before walking away, waiting until she’d rounded a corner before she fell back against the wall.
The hallway was too public, so Isabelle found an empty supply closet and hid inside. She struggled to breathe, no longer caring about holding back the tears. Quiet sobs filled the small room as she furiously wiped her eyes.
It was stupid to cry over a man who tried his best to pretend they hadn’t been together for eight months. It was stupid to expect that he would ever tell her that he loved her back. It was stupid of her to believe, for just one fleeting moment, that the two of them would have worked out.
“Stop it,” she mumbled to herself, wiping away the last tears before she stood tall and fanned her face, hoping that it wouldn’t be so obvious she’d just cried.
Ethan was standing nearby when she stepped out of the supply closet. With a frustrated sigh, Isabelle walked right past him, hurrying to deal with her next patient. She could see him linger outside the room, watching her as she dealt with the woman around her age.
“You need to find something else to do,” she said to him as she left the patient’s room, praying for one of her friends to appear. “I told you I’m fine.”
He didn’t respond. Instead, he watched her without a word. The two of them walked around the hospital in silence. When she’d finished checking in on her patients, Isabelle turned to Ethan with her arms crossed over her chest.
“I’m serious. What do you want?”
“I want you to tell me what’s wrong. Whatever it is, it’s impacting the quality of your work. You’ve been almost silent during our last few meetings. It’s not like you.”
She shook her head, commanding herself to get over him on the spot. Things couldn’t continue this way much longer. “You really want to know what’s wrong? Honestly?”
Ethan kept his mouth shut, waiting for her to continue.
Isabelle sighed, putting down her charts to talk to him face to face. “I’m still in love with you. And I know that you don’t feel the same. But I’m trying to get over you, so you constantly following me around isn’t helping. You inviting me over isn’t helping. Your presence in general is. Not. Helping.”
It looked like he was about to respond, but she knew that would only make it worse.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, Dr. Ramsey, I have work to do. As do you. I will see you tomorrow.” Isabelle just barely managed to get to the women’s bathroom before she collapsed against the stalls, struggling to breathe. She shut her eyes and inhaled deeply, listening to the quiet drip from one of the sinks.
She should have been over him by now. Breaking up had never been easy before, but this time it hurt so much more. Isabelle still spent hours thinking about Ethan, remembering what their relationship had been like at its highest point. It didn’t help that she had to see him every single day and pretend that nothing had gone on between them.
Aside from the sneaking around in the hospital, trying not to rouse suspicion, the two of them had gone out in public whenever they weren’t working.
They’d had their differences, the stupid spats when things didn’t go exactly as planned, but those little moments of tension had been worth it for the good times. She loved him. She loved him so much that it was almost impossible to envision a future without him.
Isabelle wiped the tears away, forcing herself to stand and walk toward the mirror hanging over the sink. She studied her reflection, unable to stop from laughing at how terrible she looked. If anyone had had doubts about her involvement with Ethan before, there was little room for questioning it now. Even she could see the heartbreak plastered all over her face.
“I am over him,” she whispered, repeating it a second time, only louder.
Maybe if she kept saying it, told herself that it was over, it would start to become true. They had ended on mutual terms. It had been the decision of them both. Yet, here she was, pining for a man who couldn’t even tell her that he loved her.
Someone entered the bathroom, and Isabelle straightened up, avoiding eye contact with the nurse as she passed by her and back into the hallway. It felt like everyone was staring at her. She wished one of her friends would appear. After taking another moment to compose herself, she continued doing rounds.
Hours later, she encountered Ethan again. He briefly took her hand in his, not seeming to care if anyone else saw. And just like that, she found herself falling all over again.
“Would you like to go out for coffee?” Ethan asked, and she wanted to ask him just what he thought he was doing.
Instead, Isabelle agreed. Perhaps one day she would be over him, but today would not be that day. Neither would tomorrow. But she was done fighting it. She loved him, and deep down, a part of her knew that he loved her too.
Even if he would never admit it.
And so, they would continue their game.

continued from this text thingy for something to tell you | a discord thread with @diabolicaltendencies
ALEX
She hovered outside his door, already wondering if he had just been nice on the phone to let her down in person. Even worse, after years of going through the conversation with people she didn’t give a shit about, it was hard to redo it all when she cares this much about someone else’s opinion. It was easy to dismiss gossip and rumour. Not so much the way her face cracked in a smile whenever her phone lit up with his name.
Fuck it. She took a deep breath and hit his door bell, the smell of vinegar seeping up from the heavily soaked chips in her arms. At least she would have some fuel for bribery, and a couple of beers to help it flow quicker.
SAM
Sam knew the conversation they'd had over text was heavier than she was letting on. He'd done some poking around the internet since, but after one or two crazy headlines and hyperlinks to celebrity conspiracy blogs popping up on his screen, he quickly quit he quit. It just gave him more proof that talking to people was more useful than googling them. He still can't believe people actually do that.
He opens the door with a smile, genuine and bright as he looks at her, "Hey!" He glances down at the bag and looks a bit confused but no less happy to see her, "Did you bring food?"
ALEX
“And beer, don’t forget the beer.” She beamed up at him, immediately glad she had come even if this was going to be awkward. She took a step inside setting the bag down in his hall to immediately yank him down to her level. If he had been acting polite earlier, fine, but there was no way on earth he was going to escape her barrage of kisses. She missed him. A couple weeks up north and a long overdue day in the studio aggravated that. The nerves more so.
“Cmere stupid.”
SAM
"And beer." He concedes, closing the door behind her. He pulls her close the same time she reaches for him, kissing her thoroughly like there hadn't even been an earlier conversation. He missed her just as much. Cupping her jaw, Sam runs his thumb along her cheek when they pull apart. "If you keep that up, the food's going to get cold."
ALEX
She folded into him so easily, so naturally it was like she was made to for there. It was still a surprise how normal this could feel. Her experience of relationships had been all or nothing, hot and cold was a mild way to put it. Yet with Sam, things seemed to sit at a constant simmer. A gentle bubble, a constant reminder that happiness was just a kiss away d as t the most. Gentle hands and soft touches, it was all so cliche and yet simply perfect.
Alex shrugged, because in all honesty she was happy to forget about the food entirely. But she rolled her eyes like a begrudging teenager, even if the idiotic grin on her face gave her away. “Fine, but I’m coming back for more later, alright?”
SAM
He presses a kiss against her hair before pulling away to pick up the food, "I hope so~" He flashes her a just-short-of-cocky grin and ushers her inside. The flat is an organized mess. There are jackets, papers and books littered about but they've each found their own neat pile. He's been pulling long hours and has resorted to just enough tidying to keep things from overwhelming him. One day it'll all get put away but it's not today.
"Wow, what'd I do to deserve this?" He comments happily upon peeking at their meal for the evening. He places the bag on the coffee table and settles down on one end of the gently worn couch.
ALEX
Alex followed him into his space, heading straight for the sofa too. She liked his flat, it was funny how it could feel so lived in. Her own place was so sparse, she looked like she could leave at any moment without it seeming out of place. But his was worn, loved, filled with time and memories.  “Consider it bribery? Also, you’re welcome for saving you from any attempt at me cooking.”
She kicked her shoes off, immediately tucking her feet up underneath her and reaching for her keys from her pocket to open the beer bottles. “What have you been reading about? What’s that one?” She pointed to a pile on the coffee table curiously.
SAM
He begins sorting out the food, placing a box on either end of the table within reach and divvying up all the extra things in the bag. He glances up at the pile of books. It's mostly a stack of textbooks but the top one is a novel, "Oh, that's Stephen King's new one." He reaches to grab it and pass it over to her before opening his box and popping a fry into his mouth.
ALEX
She took the book form him, flipping through the pages likes he could actually take any of it in. No doubt she'd be up for it whenever it became a movie, but she had neither the mindset or the patience for reading. She learnt over, setting it back down carefully where he had pulled it form even if it meant being thoroughly in his way.  Alex grabbed one of the bottles, using her keys in a way they were definitely not intended and holding it out for him to take.   "Here y' go"
SAM
He leans backs slightly to make room for her to lean over but not quite enough that they aren't completely in each other's space. But it's comfortable, easy. "Thanks," He takes the bottle and downs a quick swig before smiling at her. "So what's the bribe for?"
ALEX
She grabbed the other bottle, playing with her keys again to loosen the top and taking a large swig to gather her thoughts. Her own food was still semi wrapped, so she stretched out for a chip from his. Taking it, Alex smirked.
“Well, I’m guessing you’ve got a ton of questions. And you might not like the answers so.. just in case.”
SAM
Sam slides his food a bit closer between them without complaint, continuing to casually eat himself. He smiles softly at her smirk, there's a short silence after she speaks before he replies, "We don't have to do this now. Unless you want to. My questions can wait."
ALEX
"Feels like we should rip the plaster off now, right?" There was no easy way to explain that if she put it off, she might stop talking all together. It happened, from time to time. He had just the good fortune of not being around to see it. Long distance worked like that. Alex shifted further into the sofa, curling into the arm to face him. "I'm all ears."
SAM
Sam looks over her and sits back against the couch, holding the beer in his lap. "Okay... I'm... not sure where to start." He offers an apologetic smile. "Maybe if you just-- explain what you were worried about me hearing? Give me the context?"
ALEX
"That's... fair." And it made it all the harder. Usually the songs lead this conversation or the press. Or both, if it was truly awful. She had fielded the worst of it for a few years not. It just had less stakes than this normally. Even when Jim found out. "I- erm-" She swallowed, hard. She pursed her lips to let the silence hang, trying to figure out where to start.
"I was with someone for about five years, l-like I said. He was on my course, and lived with me. We made a lot of music together until he got scouted, and then the thing I liked about him made us... not great."
SAM
Sam nods, he's listening intently, following along but not demanding anything. "And... that's what went into the music he wrote?" He asks gently, trying to put the pieces she's given him so far together.
ALEX
Alex nodded too, averting her eyes to take a sip from her own bottle as her fingers moved to fiddle with the label. “I wasn’t a great person... well I’m still not.” How best to put it? Her early twenties had been toxic, partly because of her relationship but also her outlook. There wasn’t really a way to explain all of that. “He wrote about me, about how he felt things had shifted between us. He took songs I had worked on with him and changed the lyrics to suit his view. And because my family is involved in politics, I didn’t get the luxury of having a fucked up relationship the same way other people do.”
SAM
Sam frowns, "So the media get a hold of it." He concludes. That would make sense of all the dramatics he'd seen from a simple search.
ALEX
“The band charted, there was a lot of press around the music from the few demos the label had pushed and... I was a great target.” She shifted awkwardly, tearing off a larger chunk of the label and rolling to between her fingers. “Things kind of spiralled from there.”
SAM
"Can I ask his name.. or the band's? I don't want to listen." He clarifies quickly. "Not unless you want me to for some reason. I just-- I don't want to look like an idiot if they come up."
ALEX
"Yeah- yeah, no of course. Elliot McAlistair, the band is Vactican Camoes. It was some dumb in joke the boys had." She smiled, softly. It was reassuring, whether he meant it or not. "You can. I mean, they're on the radio constantly. Sort of... unavoidable."
They had become the soundtrack to her life, especially working in the bar. Eventually she'd managed to curate some decent playlists to avoid it, but every now and agains she would be caught off guard by his tinny voice echoing from a shop front or builders radio.
"I don't come off well from it. I'm not... the most stable person in his eyes. And my dad - my brother, they didn't take it well."
SAM
"Well, good news is I don't believe everything I hear on the radio." Sam looks at her fondly. She's sitting so defensively, so worried about what he's going to think or say, but all he want to do is wrap an arm around her shoulders and hold her close. He knows this is her side of the story, but honestly that's the only one that matters to him. "...How did they take it?"
ALEX
Everything about her was nervous, tightly wound and yet somehow restless. Maybe finally talking about this would release the pit in her stomach.
“It’s- erm...” she tried to swallow again, opening her lips a few times before she had the sounds to fill them. “It’s.. complicated. I’m not, well, I wasn’t close with my dad so- yeah. It was very... personal. I sort of- I-I stopped talking for a while. My brother, he was better. But it’s... it’s not something people forget.”
She puffed out her cheeks, letting loose a heavy breath. “He wrote about things that made them look b-bad.”
SAM
Sam puts down the beer and shifts to sit facing her. He slowly reaches for her hand, giving her time to pull away if she wants to. He won't force the contact, "Hey." He shakes his head, "That's not your fault."
ALEX
“No, n-no I know you’re right.” She took his hand, lacing her fingers through his with a small squeeze. It was hard because she wasn’t expecting this comfort, but she liked it. Maybe this is what healthy relationships looked like. Her smile fell from her face though, her eye-line dropping to her feet. “Except, well, it kinda is. S-some of it anyway. They’re politicians so my life just... it doesn’t work for them. Me being me- it’s a bit of a whirlwind.”
SAM
He takes her hand in both of his, fingers caressing her skin. "I can't pretend to know what you were like then. I guess I don't really know your family either, but, I like who you are now. A song or headline isn't going to change that... and politicians, celebrities or not, nothing justifies someone selling your private life to the public without your consent. You know that, right?"
ALEX
On some base level, she knew he was right. And she agreed with him completely. Yet her mind swung constantly, between outrage at her life being subject to the judgment of the British public and shame at what a mess it had become. "Yeah." She said it quietly the first time, barely audible before she repeated it a little stronger. Maybe it would sink in.
"I don't know. I wasn't a decent person, neither was he. And I can live with that. It's become very real, having to explain it to everyone."
SAM
He nods and smiles encouragingly, squeezing her hand lightly between his. Sure, he would need more details for the full picture - to actually listen to the songs or read the articles. But even if it's the worst thing he can imagine... he doesn't think it would matter. He likes the Alex he knows, flaws and all, "Well I'm not running away yet... so now what?"
ALEX
"You sure? There's still time?" She uses her free hand to check an imaginary watch, trying to use the bit to gather her shaky confidence. It made sense he was playing nice now, whilst she was here and in the room. It was what came later she was terrified for. "It's okay. If this is too much, that's alright. My life isn't private anymore, it's a lot to get used to"
SAM
"It's not too much." He keeps up his reassuring smile. "Is there anything else you want me to know?"
ALEX
“You say that now...” she took a swig from her beer with a shrug. “I don’t know, guess if there’s any questions?”
SAM
"Hm." He looks down at their hands leaning in to kiss her knuckles before glancing back up with bright blue eyes, "Do I get to hear more of your music now that I know?"
ALEX
It was impossible not to smile when he did shit like this. Small, meaningful gestures that completely derailed her toxic train of thought. She leant forwards, pulling her hands away setting her bottle down on the coffee table before she flopped onto him entirely. She let her head rest against his chest, curling her shoulders to fit in the space at the back of the sofa. Impossible for him to eat, but soothing all the same. “Maybe. If you wanted to? Truth is I haven’t really written, well not for me. For friends, sure but that’s different. I’ve had an idea or two... just not got very far ‘til you came along.”
SAM
Sam falls perfectly into place, right where she wants him. He curls an arm around her, fingers lightly ghosting back and forth before reaching up to brush her hair back from her face. "I'd love to hear it." And he genuinely means it. There's a small note of excitement in his words.
ALEX
Easy. He made things easy. Easier to talk, to be kind, to be honest. Easier to write too. Sure, she'd been playing around with ideas more form the moment they met. However they were still personal - a real outlet for the intense feelings she had been having and trying to play down. Alex knew she was besotted. Acting cool was tricky when she fel so hard, and so fast for the people who showed her the slightest affection. She didn't even think, she just let it out. She had intended to say 'I'd love you to.' but it came out... different.
"I think I love you."
SAM
Out of everything she’s said, all the supposed horrors and skeletons in her closet, it’s those three words that surprise him. He inhales, chest expanding under her cheek, and his expression flutters between surprise and happiness. His breath catches on the exhale, words tumbling out of his mouth before he can think twice, whispered into her hair, “I love you too.”
Maybe it wasn't the right time to say it. Maybe he should've waited for a moment that wasn't weighed down by what's she's been through. But he's happy. He loves her. It's the truth. His arm tightens around her in a loose hug.

Sierra and I saw this piece of art by @ktokei and I ended up writing a whole drabble set in the Butterfly Effect au inspired by the picture and an idea Sierra had, and I debated posting it cause it was just something quick I wrote for fun (and cause Sierra asked me to) but there’s some parts I’m pretty proud of so here ya go why not:
Nagito was no stranger to hospitals, and neither was Izuru. Neither of them liked hospitals, which was understandable given their associations with doctors and lab coats. This is why Nagito was so grateful that Izuru had come to visit him.
“They keep asking for my guardian,” Nagito sighed. “That would be upsetting if I were under eighteen, but now? It’s upsetting and annoying. I wish they would just tell me, it’s not like I haven’t heard all these terms before.”
Izuru nodded with a ‘hm’ sound. He was checking Nagito’s chart, which made Nagito raise an eyebrow at him.
Izuru noticed this after awhile and cleared his throat, setting the chart back. “Sorry.”
“It’s fine… you worry in your own way…” Nagito sighed.
Izuru looked around the room, his frown deepening. He went to the window and examined the lock.
“Worried about intruders now?” Nagito chuckled.
“No.” Izuru slowly closed the door, then moved back to the window. “You want to leave?”
“I mean… yes? But I can’t.”
“Temporarily.”
“You mean like… sneak out for a date?” Nagito asked, suddenly growing more interested.
Izuru nodded. Nagito had been locked up in here for weeks, and each time Izuru came to visit his partner’s eyes had looked duller and duller. Izuru was of the opinion that no one should spend such a long time in the same room, sitting and staring into nothing.
Nagito stood shakily, and Izuru moved quickly around him removing the IV and helping him find his balance. He’d brought a backpack with some of Nagito’s clothes amongst other items he thought might come in handy, so he helped Nagito change out of the hospital gown before throwing the backpack over one shoulder and lifting Nagito.
Nagito took a sharp breath and clung tight to Izuru, and Izuru honestly couldn’t tell if he was scared of the drop from the window or if he was excited by it. Either way, Izuru held him safely as he made a controlled descent to the ground below.
“What did you have planned?” Nagito asked as he slipped out of Izuru’s grasp.
Izuru shrugged, then held out his hand. Nagito happily took it, swinging their joined hands as they walked.
Izuru took Nagito to the library where he tried to grab a dangerous pile of books. Izuru took them before Nagito either collapsed under their weight or tripped from bad luck and dropped them everywhere. They spent the better part of two hours in a darkened corner of the library, Nagito deep in a book and Izuru subtly using cuddling as a way to keep track of Nagito’s temperature and pulse.
Then Izuru decided Nagito should eat, and managed to convince him of this only after they’d checked out all the books he hadn’t gotten to. They went to a hole in the wall neither of them had heard of before that day, where the food was both greasy and amazing. Nagito kept smiling and laughing as he talked incessantly. He paused only whenever Izuru nudged his hand, which was still holding a fork with a forgotten bite of food, towards his mouth. Nagito was so busy praising the food and comparing it to what they served him at the hospital that he kept forgetting to actually eat.
Nagito insisted they go visit his old school, and Izuru spent a few uncomfortable minutes on the campus where he was born while Nagito reminisced and tried to teach Izuru about all the great parts of the school.
Eventually, Izuru gave Nagito a piggy back ride as they ventured out of town. Izuru could feel Nagito drifting off slightly, head resting on his shoulder, and it made him worry that he’d exhausted him, overestimated how much he could handle. But when they reached their destination, Nagito was quick to wake up.
“Where’s this?” he asked curiously, looking around the empty field.
Izuru didn’t answer, he was busy pulling the small tent from his bag and assembling it. Nagito clapped his hands together excitedly and hovered around him until he was done. The sun started to set and all across the field dozens of fireflies started to do their thing.
“It’s… beautiful,” Nagito said, lips twitching into a smile.
Izuru nodded. Nagito liked beautiful things. He’d debated between this, an art gallery, and a greenhouse. His final decision was, as always, the best one.
“Don’t trip.” Izuru steadied Nagito with a hand at his elbow, trying to keep his boyfriend upright as he chased fireflies. “Careful. Don’t over exert yourself.”
“Use your talents to keep me safe,” Nagito challenged him playfully, running off with a laugh.
Izuru followed after Nagito as they filled a jar with fireflies, and even though he maintained a look of neutral annoyance at Nagito’s antics, it made his heart lighter to see him laughing and enjoying himself again. There were still dark circles under his eyes, but in his eyes the light was back.
They ended up laying on their stomachs, peeking out of the tent at their jar of fireflies and all the others who they’d mercifully allowed to remain free.
“Think you can sneak this back into the hospital for me?” Nagito asked, finger tracing against the glass.
“Yes,” Izuru promised.
“I’ve missed things like this,” Nagito said, smiling sadly. Izuru lay his head on Nagito’s shoulder with a frown as he kept talking. “Everytime I get sick, it’s like… everything gets caught behind glass.” he stared at the jar, and a firefly came to land right where his finger was resting. “I can’t touch the light, but I can still see it shining without me. Nothing pauses, it keeps going. But I pause. One day I might stop.”
“You won’t stop,” Izuru said.
“I might.” Nagito looked at him. “Maybe your talent could save me, or maybe I’ll die and you’ll remember me. If I do, use my memory to help other people? Let me be the stepping stone that raises them higher.”
“Stop…” Izuru huffed, and Nagito chuckled at his pouting.
“I thought you said I shouldn’t!” he teased.
“Not funny.”
“You don’t think anything’s funny.”
Izuru watched the fireflies, and tried to stay confident in his abilities. Emotions muddled things, made it hard to think. Sometimes he reached for a talent and it simply wasn’t there. It happened more and more these days, and he wasn’t sure if it was something he could train himself to endure or if one day he would simply lose everything that made him special. Everything that had made him… worth it.
He didn’t know if he would be able to create miracle cures with the inspiration of Nagito’s death.
He’d had enough trouble understanding his chart with the concern clawing at his heart like an enraged beast.
Nagito shivered, and considering it was seventy degrees out, Izuru felt that concern return, and pressed a hand to his forehead. He was starting to feel warm, and he looked pale.
“We should get you back.” he crawled out of the tent and offered Nagito a hand up. Nagito looked reluctant, but he stood anyway. As soon as he was standing straight he felt a dizziness come over him, one he recognized.
“I’m sorry to worry you,” he mumbled, stumbling against Izuru.
Izuru would remember the feeling of Nagito’s body falling against him and then immediately to the ground forever.
“Nagito!” he dropped to his knees, shaking hands lifting the figure lying prone in the grass.
It was a blur after that. Running to the hospital, doctors taking Nagito away from him.
He heard things like ‘irresponsible’ and ‘he’s seizing’ and ‘your parents?’ and ‘get him out of here!’
He saw things like Nagito convulsing, his chest going still, his head falling limp to the side as doctors placed an oxygen mask over his mouth.
Then he was sitting in a waiting room, all the sounds in the world assaulting his ears and all the sights in the world assaulting his eyes until all he could do was pull his legs up onto the chair, hold them tight to his chest and close his eyes, cover his ears with his hands and-
“Izuru?”
There was so much of it all, he couldn’t process so many things at once-
“Izuru, sweetie.”
He opened his eyes.
Chisa had a hand on his shoulder, another on his cheek. She was looking at him with concern.
“How… did you-” words were getting hard so he trailed off there knowing she’d grasp his meaning.
“You gave them my number, you don’t remember?” she asked. “Izuru, what happened. Are you hurt?”
He shook his head.
“Did something happen with Nagito?”
He nodded.
She rubbed his arm softly. “Okay, sweetie. I’m gonna go ask the nurses about it, alright? Then we’re gonna go somewhere quiet.”
Next thing Izuru knew he was sitting in the backseat of a car. He could feel the vibrations from the engine, and after a moment he turned his head to see Sakakura in the driver’s seat and Chisa beside him.
“I thought he’d be okay,” he said quietly, immediately getting both of their attention. “I thought… I thought. I should have known. It gets hard, and people pay…” his head fell to one side, hair falling in loose tangles all about him. “I just wanted him to feel happy. We talked about how he might stop. He told me if he died I had to use his death and my talent to help others… but my talent turns off when I think about him dying.”
“You just get distracted,” Sakakura said. “It’s not turning off, it’s just harder to focus when you have emotions.”
“Yeah.” Chisa reached over and squeezed his hand. “You’ll get better at it. Until then, it’s okay to ask for help and it’s okay to make mistakes. It sounds like you did something really nice for him.”
Izuru pressed the heel of his palm to his forehead and pushed hard.
“They said we can see him tomorrow,” Chisa said. “He needs rest for now.”
Izuru put his hand on the door handle and Sakakura made a sharp disapproving noise.
“You’ve done enough of that for one day,” he said warningly, and Chisa, seeing Izuru fall back into guilt, gave Sakakura a kick for it.
“First thing tomorrow, okay?” Chisa said.
“... can I wait here?” Izuru asked.
“You should come home and get some rest.”
“Can I wait here?”
“Izuru…”
He stared at her with his intense red eyes.
Chisa sighed, sometimes to take care of someone you had to tell them no. Telling Izuru Kamukura no was near impossible, as he could just do whatever he wanted and no one could stop him. However, he’d shown on many occasions that he respected her wishes and guidance.
“Home. So you can rest,” she said.
Izuru looked like he might argue again, but then he sighed and nodded.
Sakakura drove them home, and Chisa battled with Izuru over every bit of self care she could get him to accomplish from eating dinner to changing into pajamas. She caught him pretending to sleep and in the end invited him to come watch movies with her all night.
His single minded nervous energy was almost too much, but after awhile she managed to distract him with movies and snacks until he fell victim to the human weakness of fatigue and drifted off to sleep curled up and resting on the arm of the couch.
But he was awake bright and early at five am.
Nagito looked frail, like a ghost of himself, laying in the hospital bed.
Izuru had the urge to shake him awake to make sure he was still alive, but then again he also had the urge to turn around and leave to guard the door so he could continue resting. Nagito ended up deciding for him by waking, as if sensing him nearby.
“... your face looks kinda scary,” he said hoarsely, with a quiet chuckle.
Izuru glared and took Nagito’s hand.
“Ooh, scarier now,” Nagito teased.
“Why are you laughing at me?” Izuru huffed.
“Because you’re making me laugh,” Nagito said helpfully. “Hey, our fireflies, did you go back for them?”
Izuru’s face grew surprised and sad as he remembered their abandoned campsite.
“That’s okay. Just go back for them later, alright? And my books?”
“I will. How are you feeling?”
Nagito sighed, looking a bit exasperated and yet sad. “I can’t seem to get away from that question.”
“Have you been answering it?” Izuru raised a critical eyebrow and Nagito smiled sheepishly.
“I feel… bad,” he sat up with a wince, and Izuru immediately made him lay back down. “I won’t break.”
“You might stop,” Izuru said, voice shaking.
“Oh…” Nagito took Izuru’s hand again. “That’s why you look so upset. I scared you with that, didn’t I? Talking about death and stuff.”
Izuru didn’t answer.
“Hey. Big guy, look at me. I’m alright.”
Izuru didn’t look at him.
“Okay. Come here.” Nagito slid over a bit, ignoring Izuru’s protests at his moving. He patted the bed next to him. Izuru was ashamed of how quickly he slid into the empty space, still clutching Nagito’s hand like a lifeline. Nagito pressed their foreheads together and pulled Izuru’s hand over to rest on the pulseline on his neck. “Let’s just get you reassured, okay? I need a nap after that nap I just took, and you need to look less scary.”
Izuru didn’t say anything, but Nagito saw his facial expression change ever so slightly, saw the emotions stirring under the surface of his calm face. Gratitude, awe, love, relief, happiness, and yet still worry, guilt, fear.
Careful, Izuru, you’re becoming one of us, Nagito thought idly to himself. Should I be flattered or feel guilty for laying him so low?
“Sleep,” Izuru ordered him, seeing the wheels turning in his head.
“Yes sir,” Nagito sighed, cuddling as close as he could without disrupting Izuru’s hand on his pulse. He slept easily, his body exhausted and dosed with painkillers. Izuru slept just as easily, feeling calmed by Nagito’s steady heartbeat and tired from a night of worry.
