4R’s: Bleach Live Action 2018 (movie review part 2 of 3)

Uh...yeah sorry for that very long recap, but if you have been following me you know that’s just how I do it hahaha! And yes I grew up watching anime and Bleach is one of my all time favorites.

Raves:

-The cinematography and visual effects were on point especially the Hollows, they look exactly like the ones in the anime version. Soul Society was also giving me that creepy yet beautiful vibe which was slightly different from what I felt in the anime, I’d say I like the live action’s better. And dayuuuum Zabimaru’s shikai and Uryuu’s bow and arrow, are everything!

-The cast definitely nailed their characters. I especially love the dynamics between Sota and Hana, the way they bicker and care about each other, and that subtle yet just enough chemistry they’ve shown when Ichigo and Rukia’s friendship started to blossom made me think that the anime and live action characters are one and the same. Although I did notice that Sota made some teeny-tiny changes in Ichigo’s overall vibe. In contrast to the anime/manga where Ichigo has this “permanent scowl” on his face (like a resting bitch face) which was the main reason why he gets into fights aside from his orange hair, he also cuss a lot and is kind of rude, quite reserved I must say but has a really soft heart, Sota kind of gave me more of a warm and bubbly kind of Ichigo for some strange reasons, maybe he’s too cute to wear a scowl or maybe that is his personality in real life but nevertheless I didn’t mind because it’s something new and he still did a good job at showing Ichigo’s comical side (aka his petty fights with Rukia), his desire to protect his family, his friends especially Rukia. I do wish that he pushed a little more on Ichigo’s angsty side to really emphasize his guilt about Masaki’s death a bit more though, but still great job!

-Lemme just say that Hana is cute and badass at the same time, very much like Rukia, I don’t mind her not following the entire look of the anime version since I’ve always imagined Rukia with longer hair. I enjoyed watching all of her scenes but I guess my favorite would be that part when Rukia was low-key bidding goodbye to Ichigo before regaining her powers, the pain in her eyes reminded me so much of the last part of the arrancar arc after Ichigo defeated Aizen and it resulted to him losing his powers and ugh--that scene when Rukia was slowly fading before Ichigo’s eyes my ghad! And the first season when Rukia chose to go back to Soul Society with Renji and Byakuya to spare Ichigo’s life, Rukia giving that one last glimpse before leaving him behind combined. And yes I ship them and I still ship them even if they are not head canon, I DON’T GIVE A SHIT. Anyhoo, Hana was amazing.

-Another rave worthy actors would definitely be Miyavi and Taichi Saotome, though they didn’t have as much exposure as Sota and Hana, for me Byakuya and Renji left a really strong impression that the first two characters who come into my mind whenever I think about the movie are them, IchiRuki come in second. I especially love Miyavi’s intimidating vibe, that even if he doesn’t say anything you know he’s a very powerful man, his eyes speak for himself, and damn he’s scary and hot af at the same time (that kenseikan tho). Taichi is also incredible you guys, I can’t even tell the difference between the live action and anime version of Renji, he too possess this strong, ruthless vibe but not overpowering Miyavi’s Byakuya at the same time. 

-Karin and Yuzu are the cutest!

-Rukia’s drawiiiiings!

-I also love the fact that they replicated the costumes, although there were some modifications like Rukia’s hairstyle and Hollow tracker, Ichigo’s zanpakuto, Orihime’s hair color (just bc it’s worth mentioning haha!) it still didn’t affect the overall look of the character, I can still tell who’s who. 

-Legit fight scenes, with that killer OST in the background it sure did pump up my adrenaline.
