man i love my friends so much, i really do, but i can never talk to them TRULY about problems with media because they are all white

ill call out something/someone they enjoy nd be like 'hey this is [racist/islamaphobic] for x reason so please be critical when u consume this media' and suddenly i am the "overreatcting brown friend who wants to cancel everything"

like. they will actively engage in fandoms that tend to have SUCH racist/islamaphobic fans which makes me so goddamn uncomfy and they are like 'well IM not like that.' i know you arent but when you are in the same group (fandom ig) as these people and do not call otu their behavior, its WRONG. it may not hurt you but it hurts me

I know exactly how you feel :( there’s been times in the past where I’ve had white friends tell me that me talking about these issues or even just venting has hurt them, and they take it very personally despite it not being about them? And I’ll have to reassure them that they’re not the white people I’m talking about but when they take it so personally like you can’t help but feel like shit or that maybe there’s a reason they take it so personally?? I don’t know it’s a very strange position to be put in...

I’m sorry you’ve had to be put in these situation anon :( it’s very uncomfortable and it puts white peoples feelings over your own despite how reasonable and understandable your grievances are. I always recommend trying to make friends with other poc, both in fandom spaces and in general! it’s just nice to have people who will understand when you bring up issues of racism or Islamophobia in your case, and won’t immediately jump to defensiveness, ya know?

but please know you are not alone in this feeling cause I often am very anxious of becoming annoying with the issues I bring up again and again,, but if they’re good friends, they will listen and try to understand the best they can! Chapter 2: A Boy and his Bug

Chapter 3

This is chapter 2 of a fanfic series on my take on a sequel/epilogue for the game Owlboy, and thus, will contain spoilers for the ending. Proceed under the cut with caution.

Also, there’s cursing in this chapter, all of it’s in the beginning. Beware of cursing.

Much to their dismay, Twig and Geddy ended up landing near each other after the explosion sent everyone flying. It's not that they hated each other because they didn’t hate each other. It's just that they were the other’s least favorite person on the team by default. Geddy and Otus were best friends since forever, and while Twig considered Dirk his friend, he was also close with Alphonse since he was the kind soul Twig was looking for when he left his family in Mesos searching for acceptance.

“Hey, Twig, you unconcous?” Geddy asked out loud, “I know it’s a stupid question, but I wanna make sure.”

“Noooooo,” Twig laughed and answered jokingly, “I’m unconscious in the ocean somewhere floating helplessly waiting for some sort of ocean monster to eat me.”

“Haha, very funny.” Geddy rolled his eyes, “Now where the name of all things holy are we?”

Twig didn’t answer. He zoned out after Geddy’s sarcasm. He zoned out quite a bit when things got quiet.

“Holy fuck,” Twig said to no one in particular, “Dirk tried to kill me in the Floating Continent. He’s a bitch, a dick, an absolute asshole. Why on Earth did I ever think he was my friend, I’m an idiot.”

“No shit, Sherlock,” Geddy scoffed, “From what I could tell, Dirk hated anything with a pulse. That’s just who he was. How slow are you to just realize that now?”

Twig was stretching and thinking out loud, “I helped kill Dirk, Jesus Crist, Imma murderer. You seem different Geddy, you feel different? Everything’s ok up there, right? I hope Bro and Pa are ok. They better not get lonely without me. Well, Dirk didn’t hate eeeveeeryyyoonee, he seemed to like Alphonse a lot. Like a lot a lot. He was super bummed when Alphonse left.”

“Ok, Twig, let's take this one thought at a time, ” Geddy said slowly, “First, that realization was a little quicker than the last one. But since it involves murder, I'll give you a pass. Second, when Otus is around, I get kinda excited-”

“-Dude, isn't Otus, like, 12? And aren't you 20-something? Not ok, bro, ” Twig interjected.

“Not that type of excited, geez, man. Get your mind out of the gutter, ” Geddy scoffed once again, “Anyway, people told me I'm a whole different person without Otus. Third, your family is ok. Now that Molstrom’s gone, the Pirates probably won’t be around for much longer. They probably need a little vacation from you, anyway. Lastly, how close, exactly, were Dirk and Alphonse? And what type of like are we talking about? Were they friends or did they fuck? There’s a big difference.”

“How do you expect me to know? Like I’d ask Dirk and Alphonse of all people about their sex life. Speaking about Otus, where is he? Isn’t he your best friend and the other half of your ‘unstoppable duo’ or whatever?” Twig answered.

“Oh shit! You're right!” Geddy panicked, “We need to go find Otus! Where are we? How do we figure out where Otus is? How How....”

“It’s ok, Geddy. It's ok. Breath... We’ll find where Otus is, we’ll figure out where we are. Don’t worry.” Twig comforted as he put a hand on Geddy’s shoulder.

“Hey,” Geddy chuckled, “didn’t know Alphonse was here, man.”

“Nah, it’s just me,” Twig said with a twinge of disappointment, “but after a while, one picks up on stuff like that. I do hope Alphonse and the Owlboy are ok. Otus has more than proved himself, but those two. They wouldn’t hurt a fly, let alone a gawk.”

“They’re fine,” Geddy dismissed, “With any luck, they’re together, and that Alphonse’s determination to protect the people he cares about will cancel out his desires to stay passive. By the way, you’re back is drowning in mud. You should check that out sometime.”

Twig laughed and put a hand on his back, and lo and behold, mud was dripping from his hand. He ran around and looked at Geddy’s back. His back was also muddy with a clean handprint where he put one of his hands.

“Check yourself before you wreck yourself, Goggles, ” Twig joked putting his muddy hand up he put on Geddy’s shoulder earlier.

“Oh yeah?” Geddy tempted as he bent down and attempted to make a makeshift snowball out of some of the mud on the ground. “How about you check yourself before I wreck you?”

The two eventually degraded into laughter and throwing mud at each other. Even though both of them would see themselves as too old to make fun out of playing in the mud, they found a way to have fun in it after the many months of hardship completing the Anti-Hex took out of everyone’s lives.

When they eventually got tuckered out, they heard a sigh, “Boys will be boys. At least it will be easier cleaning up now because of the ocean.”

A second voice was heard chuckling further back, “And Twig will have an excuse to take that stupid costume off.”

“Pa! Bro! What are you doing here? Where are we?” Twig asked.

“You’re in Mesos, stupid. Come on, you need to get that mud off you before it dries. Plus your costume is probably dirty anyways.” Roland scoffed, as always.

“Roland, your brother isn’t stupid, he’s hardly old enough to remember this place without some snow and you know that!” Twig’s father reprimanded, “But he is right, you two are in fact in Mesos. You two should really clean up, don't want your clothing to be ruined.”

“How did you find us anyway, guys? Aren't we in the middle of nowhere or somethin’?” Twig asked.

“No, not really, the house is only a short walk away. Only took as long as it did because Dad's slow at everything, ” said Roland, “Plus you two were laughing extremely loud, we thought there was a monster nearby or something.”

And as if on cue, a Gawk and a Torque showed up. Without thinking, Twig webbed them and Geddy pulled out his blaster and killed the two creatures. All the while, Twig’s family was huddled together and screaming.

“Nice moves, youngsters, ” Twig’s father sighed in relief as they started their way back to Twig’s house and the shore. “Where’s your friends?”

“Oh, Otus and Alphonse? We don't know, ” Twig explained, “We all got blown in different directions after the Anti-Hex was activated and Molstrom died. And I guess me and Geddy are friends. We aren't as close as he and Otus are, but I think of us as friends.”

“The Anti what now?” Roland asked.

“It’s complicated, ” Geddy thought out loud, “Twig and I aren't really the best people to ask, but it started with the Ancient Owls. They built this Hex thing to stop what they called the Loop. We aren't sure what the Loop was exactly, but they felt the need to end it with their Hex Machine. However, the Hex failed, and all the land got separated from the rest of the planet and slowly floated upward. To stop the Hex, they made a blueprint for an Anti-Hex, and this kid named Solus was the one to put it into motion. Long story short, over the last few months, at least, he collected the three Hex Relics via the Pirates used to power the Anti-Hex and bring the floating islands back down to Earth.”

“And who’s this Molstrom you spoke of?” Twig’s father asked once the group got back to the house.

“Molstrom was the pirate captain, ” Twig quickly answered, “He was big and scary and mean. But don't worry guys, he’s dead now! The Anti-Hex killed him.”

“Wow, Twig, that was the record time I've seen you comprehend something today!” Geddy said half surprised, half sarcastically.

Twig didn't have any quips or witty comebacks for Geddy. He slouched over and sighed with a sad look on his face. If you looked close enough, you could see the hint of tears in his eyes.

“I guess you guys want me to take this off now. I'm surprised you two haven't complained about me wearing it more than you already have. Being a disappointment to the family and all, ” Twig sighed again, sinking lower into the slouch.

“You know what, Twig, if you feel more comfortable in it, you can keep it on. You seem more confident in it anyway, ” Twig’s father told him, sensing his sadness.

“Really, Pa?” Twig half yelled in excitement.

“Yes, Twig, really.” his father smiled, “Just as long as you wash it. You’re muddy, remember?”

The four of them started laughing as Geddy and Twig went to the ocean to wash their muddy clothes.

“How come you look nothing like your family?” Geddy asked as they arrived at the ocean.

“Oh, I guess Alphonse never got into it before he broke down, ” Twig said with some hesitancy, “I wasn't born as a spider. I was a stick bug like they are. I never felt comfortable as a stick bug, though, and I've always thought that spiders were super cool. So I became a spider once I was old enough to go through with it.”

“That’s cool, man!” Geddy responded to him, “And brave too! Half the people I know wouldn't even think of becoming something else like that, even if it woulda made them more comfortable.”

“Thanks!” Twig answered, “I am the world’s greatest spider after all. How are we going to deal with getting undressed?”

Sometimes I can (like the $1,200 business-class flight from LA to Stockholm round-trip); sometimes I can’t (like the $400 New Zealand flights I had to cancel).

I am always looking out for deals.

Today, I want to give you a peek into where I go for travels deals, tips, and expert advice. After all, these resources focus solely on this one aspect of travel, so why not use them? I can’t be everywhere and I can’t know everything, so I rely on the specialists. Kiwi – Kiwi recently updated their search platform, making it much more intuitive and user friendly. You can also search multiple cities and countries at once, making this a must-use platform when looking for budget flights.

AirTreks – If you’re looking to plan a multi-city trip, AirTreks offers great dels for round-the-world adventures with multiple stops.

If you’re looking for budget transportation, these are the websites you’ll want to check. Cheap buses, trains, and rideshare apps can help keep your transportation costs low, giving you more time on the road. Here are my favorites:

I never travel anywhere without travel insurance. After dealing with injuries and emergencies abroad (and knowing plenty of other travelers who have been injured or robbed on the road) I always make sure I have comprehensive medical and travel insurance before I leave home. Finding the best travel deals is a matter of timing.

A lot of people think travel is just plain expensive, but in reality, there are incredible deals happening all the time. They usually don’t last too long, and you have to act quickly. That can sometimes be a problem when a deal requires jumping on a plane tomorrow (how many people can do that?), but in fact, most deals are for months in the future, giving you ample time to plan your schedule.

Often I will book a flight and then figure out my plans. Since you can cancel a flight within 24 hours without incurring a fee, I lock in the deal and then figure out if I can make it work. Sometimes I can (like the $1,200 business-class flight from LA to Stockholm round-trip); sometimes I can’t (like the $400 New Zealand flights I had to cancel).

I am always looking out for deals.

Today, I want to give you a peek into where I go for travels deals, tips, and expert advice. After all, these resources focus solely on this one aspect of travel, so why not use them? I can’t be everywhere and I can’t know everything, so I rely on the specialists. Secret Flying: If you’re based in Europe, this is the cheap flight website you’re going to want to start with as they can find amazing budget flights from Europe to destinations all around the globe.

Holiday Pirates: No matter where you’re based this is a great cheap flight website so be sure to always check here for more deals.

Scott’s Cheap Flights: Another awesome resource for finding flight deals from the US.

I’m subscribed to all of their newsletters so I don’t miss any flight deals. Getting all three in my inbox each day ensures I won’t miss anything in case one website doesn’t pick up the deal.

All the search engine websites have blind spots. They all have strengths and weaknesses so it’s important to search a few different places before you book your flight.

Generally, the BEST booking sites are the following:

Momondo – Momondo searches budget airlines that many other search engines don’t look at, so you’ll sometimes find cheaper flights here. Make it a habit of using Momondo in tandem with Skyscanner.

Skyscanner – Skyscanner is a very intuitive platform that lets you search for an open-ended trip. If you’re not 100% sure where you want to go (or when) then start your search with Skyscanner.

Kiwi – Kiwi recently updated their search platform, making it much more intuitive and user friendly. You can also search multiple cities and countries at once, making this a must-use platform when looking for budget flights.

AirTreks – If you’re looking to plan a multi-city trip, AirTreks offers great dels for round-the-world adventures with multiple stops.

I always start my searches with Momondo. Momondo is a very legitimate website that returns the cheapest flight 92% of the time. They search booking websites and airlines all around the world to ensure that no deal goes unlooked. They cast the widest net and constantly are vetting the sites they search. Start with them! They are super legit.

When it comes to finding the latest in airline and frequent flier news, I turn to these sites, which give me the latest on the changes in the industry and loyalty programs, and any travel hacking news that might be important:

Skift – A great resource for airline news and industry updates.

For Australia and New Zealand travel hacking, I consult Points Hack.

For Canada, I use Canadian Kilometers and Prince of Travel.

As a very, very, very avid travel hacker (and while I have my own special tricks and tips), when you’re overseas a lot, it’s hard to stay up to date on your own so I use these three sites to keep me in the loop.

In my mind, there is only one cruise deal website worth following: CruiseSheet. This site consistently has some of the lowest rates out there, and their interface is beautiful. If I don’t find anything on CruiseSheet or want to double-check a price, I go to the second-best website, vacationstogo.com.

If you’re looking for budget transportation, these are the websites you’ll want to check. Cheap buses, trains, and rideshare apps can help keep your transportation costs low, giving you more time on the road. Here are my favorites:

FlixBus – A budget-friendly bus company routes all across Europe and parts of the USA.

Megabus – Another great budget bus company with routes throughout Europe, Canada, and the US.

RailEurope – Offers a variety of discounted train passes for both individual countries as well as entire regions of Europe, including passes for the entire continent.

Rome2Rio – A helpful resource for finding and comparing budget transportation options.

BlaBlaCar – A rideshare app that pairs travelers with local drivers who are looking to pick up passengers for a small fee.

Hotels deals are pretty hard to find and often so limited that they don’t apply to a lot of people. Plus, as a hostel and Airbnb lover (if you’re new to Airbnb, get $35 off your first stay), I frequently just use points for hotel rooms (they’re damn expensive!).

If you are looking for a hotel room, here are the two best booking websites for hotels. Don’t use anyone else. These two return the cheapest accommodation over everyone else.
