Hey. Hey you. Yes you! If you are planning on having kids or if you already do and they are young (as in they're 3rd grade and younger) read your kids stories. Stop handing them the internet and READ THEM STORIES.

Bored? Grab a book.

Don't know what to do? Give them a book.

Read to them while they draw or colour.

Still little? Read to them while they are taking a bath.

Read to them once a week on Fridays for Story Night.

Read to them before bed.

Read to them at breakfast.

Whenever you can, read to them!

Curriculum doesn't teach your children how to have morals and how to problem solve, books with interesting stories do. Parents are super busy and juggling all the moral teaching is hard when you're busy- have them read! It does some of it for you!

Want your kids to do better than the generation I'm teaching? Read to them. Read to them whenever you can so they learn to love it. Make books of all kinds available. Make them read fantasy, make them read fiction, make them read science fiction, make them read realistic fiction, make them read about dragons and heroes, friends and dilemmas, make them read about warrior cats and the children of gods, heroic mice and people overcoming bullies, teen dramas and kid crushes, knights and cursed princes, faerietales and stories about princesses saving their brothers from being swans. Books with worm professors and spooky stories for the campfire that walk about lawn weenies and plonking children down the slide, stories of British children stranded on an island, and people cursed being set free with true loves kiss. Stories with mermaids and krackens or a dog thats a cowboy who saves the day. Stories of small mice having adventures or people with hidden secrets. Stories of children going through tough childhoods and children finding themselves or new understanding. Stories of funny little women who defeat the oni with laughter or what's beyond Z for Zebra.

Children are force-fed information-based/fact-based readings in their classrooms, filling their minds with the ability to parse data from what they read and answer it word for word on a test.

But the morals, the learning how to navigate life with each other, the building of relationships ships be it friend or foe, context ans meaning come from reading stories and relating to or understanding the characters, context and subtleties of emotions they face in books.

It's been this way since the dawn of time.

Please for the love of all that is good, don't slap a screen in front of your child to occupy them. Give them a book and let them get lost in a story. It's way healthier and helps them read better, helps them understand speech patterns, helps them understand spelling intuitively, helps them problem solve, helps them understand how to people, helps them with right and wrong, helps with morality, helps with contextualizing, helps them differentiate between real vs fake people and how to empathise with something even if its not real, helps them navigate the world with a broader and more open mind.

All tiktok and the internet/social media does is provide eons of the worst unfiltered, non-kid-friendly drivel and cruelty you could ever imagine.

I'm begging you to please think of their future because I'm teaching children raised on screens and so few books and they do not know how to people and they're so far behind in literacy at all and they open a book and if it's not immediately interesting on the first sentence it's "boring" and ignored.

I sound like a boomer but please I'm begging you make your kids read books from the time they are little.

Farmer is nervous to ask Elliott if he would be up to adopting Leo, or any kids in the future. Farmer is also worried about how Leo might react to the offer.

The farmer had been frantic all morning, they had done all their chores for the day.

Yet they had been avoiding even looking at their partner, Elliott the whole time.

For the past week since Leo had moved to town, The Farmer seemed deep in thought and even a bit skittish. 

Elliott had indeed taken notice of their behavior, noting the fact that they hadn’t even come home that night, opting to stick by the mines.

Was he worried? Sure. but the farmer often lost track of time and would return later than reasonable, while still waking before himself.

Elliot found it admirable, but Ignoring him was a step too far.

“So where are you going?” Elliott said standing between them and the door.

“I was going to the mines, Clint requested way more Iron than I already had” they smiled not meeting the redhead’s eyes.

“Farmer tell me the truth, have I done something to cause you to grow so distant… is there someone else?”

It broke his heart to admit the insecurities he had been feeling, and on the flip side, it saddened The farmer that they had made him feel so.

“No! There is no one else who could ever compare to you” They put a hand to his cheek.

“Then why have you been ignoring me”

The farmer looked to their feet, mumbling something.

“Darling, you know I can’t hear you when you do that” He lifted their chin.

The farmer took a deep breath before letting it out.

“I know he never really discussed the whole if we wanted kids or not and I know it all of a sudden, but seeing Leo living all alone with no one to take care of him, it just feels like a pin is stabbing my heart. So I've been bringing him meals every day, and last night he was already asleep when I got there but I could tell he was having a nightmare so I just stayed there to comfort him. And what I'm trying to say is I want to adopt Leo, but I was scared of how you’d react” 

There was a loud silence in the room as The farmer caught their breath.

“Oh thank Yoba, I thought you were going crazy and acutely doing an order for Clint there for a second, Harvey was on speed dial,” Elliott said releasing a breath himself.

“That’s what you're focusing on, I just spilled that I want us to raise a child together.”

“Hun, I'd love to raise a little army of children if you wanted, honestly the fact that you want to bring Leo into our lives just makes me love you more,” He said embracing his partner.

“But what if that is not what he wants, Linus is perfectly content with being somewhat homeless, and they are close as can be. What if he takes it as an insult” The farmer vented, tears threatening to fall.

“The worst that could happen is that he chooses not to come live with us. Even if we don’t adopt him, he’ll still be in our lives as will we in his. And we’ll care for him no matter what” Elliott said kissing their forehead.

“How did I get so lucky to marry such a caring man”

“It came with the job I guess” He joked.

The two decided to wait till they could commission Robin to build another room, even If Leo rejected the offer they weren’t gonna give up on the prospect of being parents.

To say Robin was ecstatic at the news would have been the biggest understatement since the town ‘learned’ of Mayor Lewis and Manires Affair.

A month had passed before the pair decided they were finally ready to ask Leo. A room decorated with a large window looking out towards the farm, what more could he want?

“Hi Leo, how are you today” Farmer asked sitting down next to him.

“Oh hi, Farmer, I'm good, are you and Mr. Elliott all right, miss Robin said you guys were doing something life-changing, that's why your house was under construction right?”

Oh, Robin and her loud mouth.

“Well, yes we are planning on doing something very different, and it actually why where here. We needed to ask you something really important” Elliot said now getting down to his level.

“Now before we do we want you to know that you can say no, and we won’t hold it against you” 

The child nodded.

“We wanted to know if you’d like to come live with us, we want to adopt you. You’d be our child and we’d be your new parents” The farmer was starting to struggle a bit.

“You’d still have the tree house of course but, maybe this could be more of a clubhouse for Jas, Vincnt, and you.”

Leo stayed silent before speaking in a hushed voice

“What if I lose you like I lost my real parents” tears poked out of his eyes.

“Oh hun come here” The farmer pulled Leo onto their lap, ushering Elliott to come closer.

“We don’t plan on going anywhere, and even if we did that won’t be for a long while”

“Will I still be able to visit with the parrots?” Leo questioned.

“As long as they don’t eat all the crop” Elliott tried lightening the mood.

The three sat cuddled in the tree house till Leo had become tired, falling asleep in the arms of the farmer.

“You know I can carry him” Elliott offered as they walked back home.

“no I've got him, he’s really light, we’ve got to fatten him up,” the farmer said a little concerned.

“I'm sure Gus would love to have a taste tester with an exotic pallet”

“Don’t you think we spend enough money there?” “Crab cakes are good, not my fault

They had finally made it home and placed Leo down in his new bed.

“Good night, my little Parrot,” The farmer said kissing him on the forehead

I just cannot get over this one kid in the cinema who went "But he isn't evil!"

We are talking children here! Children don't really know or understand anything about ptsd and trauma (mostly, yet) they just observe! And if a KID between the age of 5 and 10 observes Magnifico and can read between the lines and conclude he isn't evil, what excuse does that leave for haters calling him one?

Now, more analysing cause you've been loving those and I enjoy doing them 🛡⚔️ (I might repeat some points but in a alightly different way)

Every single arguement I've seen haters or anti-Magnifico people make so far was either straight up stupid, ignorant, uneducated, defiant, baseless and or senseless. And then we also have the hardcore Amaya/Asha fans who just go on hating on Magnifico just "because!"

Or those who go "He's the worst villain ever." Yeah, Sherlock, maybe thats because he isn't one? 🤨 Like, seriously, you take Magnifico, compare him to aaaaall the REAL villains like Jafar, Frollo, Scar etc. And you wanna tell me he was anything like them because his trauma forced him to get himself posessed by evil trapped in an evil book and only went bonkers after he was literally posessed? And his sole motivation was to protect and keep safe at all costs ?

And then come the arguements 🫴🏼

"He's vain and narcissistic!"

Because he acknowledges the fact that he's handsome and like's to see himself in mirrors? 🤨

"He didn't grant every single wish! He shouldn't have kept them."

He didn't grant every single wish because of his trauma caused fear/paranoia and kept them for the same exact reason. However, he always meant well.

Yes, I agree that a traumatized person shouldn't be in any leading position, nor should they be in the position of making important decissions. But lets take a look at his motivations and goals again!

His motivations :

- Never have anyone suffer a fate like he did

- Never have people have to see their hopes and dreams get shattered

- Never have his past repeat

Quote - "Everything I do is to make sure that never happens again!"

His goals :

- Protect and keep people safe

- Make sure people live happy, content, free of hardships and strive

Gaston - treats everyone like trash and thinks the whole globe spinns around him only. Doesn't care if he walks over dead bodies looking good.

Evil queen - Wants to kill her stepdaughter because she's prettier than her.

Mother gothel - Kidnaps the baby princess, locks her up because the magic hair makes her stay young and pretty, doesn't give a toot that the king and queen are suffering immense heartbreak and guilt. And to keep the princess locked in, gaslights and belittles her.

And then we have Magnifico ✨️

"I'm handsome and I know it." Likes to look at himself in the mirror and is happy and content with his looks. Hurts not one single fly with it. Doesn't put others down.

"He's power hungry!"

Why did he want to keep his power? - Because he was terrified if he would lose it, he wouldn't be able to protect anymore and his past would repeat.

"He threatened everyone and destroyed wishes!"

Again, he was posessed? Do people understand what posessed means? Amaya knew this book would control him! Not him controling the book!

In the end, I don't even care for people who disagree with me. But one thing I just don't get is : Why are some people so out to prove to us Magnifico-defenders that he's evil? Like, are these guys for real? We push forgiveness and love and the other side pushes hate, ignorance, unforgiveness and bitterness. Why does someone feel the need to spread negativity rather than positivity?

During her 12 long years of life, Y/N knew only one reality: that of an assassin, molded into this destiny since the age of 12 when she became a hired killer and a small pet for the black mask, living on the crime alley streets, surviving on stolen wallets and leftover food. Then, they appeared, her mothers, the most functional dysfunctional family Y/N had ever known, the only family she had. Despite being crazy, thieves, and ecoterrorists, they cared for her as a daughter, despite the circumstances. Being raised by the sirens of Gotham had its advantages.

Some children, greatly admiring their parents, dream of following in their footsteps, and with Y/N, there was no difference, except that her steps would lead to becoming an internationally wanted thief at the age of seventeen. Well, let's say Batman didn't approve of the paths her life was taking and always kept a watchful eye on her actions. Despite this, things were going well until she met him.

He was 5'5, with the bluest eyes she had ever seen and an impulsive and cheeky personality. They hated each other, not because they were enemies, but because they were so alike. It all started with a confrontation while Catwoman was once again robbing Gotham's museum. Y/N, better known as Copycat, was the great distraction. Batman knew Selina's moves well enough to let Robin go in his place, and then they met and fought. It would be an understatement to say that Robin took only a small beating. Since then, they hated each other for every minute after that, but despite denying it to death, they enjoyed it, the hatred, the fights, and the provocations. They counted the minutes to meet again, always claiming that the reason was revenge.

By some twist of fate or just his irony, Y/N was there, sitting on the edge of some Gotham gargoyle. It wasn't a good day; in fact, it was the complete opposite. And then, suddenly, he's there behind her, the green and red uniform a bit stained, and a paper bag in his hands. She knew he was there, but she didn't even have the energy to start a fight or provoke. Somehow, he knew that. So, he just sat there in silence, opening the bag and taking something out, surprising Y/N with a sandwich. She initially refused, but he just ignored it and left the sandwich in her hands until she gave up and just surrendered, taking a few bites. They remained seated in silence with the sounds of Gotham's night in the background. What was supposed to be a rare event began to happen frequently until one day, silence was replaced by single words, and then sentences, and finally, deep conversations where they lost themselves in time.

They were alike, children with difficult and traumatic pasts adopted by people of questionable psychological character. They both knew what it was like to fight for survival and the difficulties they had faced. Thus, they went from enemies to friends and then to something more. They knew and trusted each other despite the masks and codenames.

But things wouldn't be good forever. On that night, he didn't show up, so Y/N decided to look for him. He was on top of Wayne Enterprises, but that wasn't the same Robin she knew. He was different, agitated, and anxious. He told her about his fight with Batman and his plan to go after the Joker. She tried to stop him, but it was too late; he was determined. She tried to convince him, but the voices got louder and more disturbed. Tears flowed down her domino mask as she turned her back on him and walked away. The next day, she wanted to resolve things and apologize. She went to the gargoyle, their place, and sat there, waiting. But hours turned into days, days into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years, but he never came back.

hi pastor kreg! i have two questions.

can you explain the Isreali-Hamas war a bit? because the news and the media are so conflicting about everything. I know its not a black and white issue, and on the one hand, I agree with Isreal in the fact that they were the ones who gave up their land for the Palestinian people in the first place, and Hamas attacked first. I understand that the Isreali government feels like it has to push back harder than it ever has before, because it is such a small, young nation, and they KNOW that their persecution will not stop because the Bible (both old and new Testments) say so (not to mention that there are a slew of countries whose agenda is to destroy Isreal). but on the other hand, there is so much news about Isreal doing horrific things, like rumors of death camps and hurting civilians. and that Hamas, the terrorist organization, is not the same as Palestine, but Palestine has also *allowed* them to take over their country politically, economically, and socially. I just don't know what or who to believe, and what other gray areas I need to consider in my choices.

i keep getting asks to support Gazan refugees. like on the one hand, OF COURSE I support all of the civilians who have nothing to do with this! but by giving them support, whether financially or just by posting about it, I support ALL of their agenda to free Palestine, which I am pretty sure in don't agree with, but I'm not positive yet. so far ive just been not answering these asks but they're getting harder to ignore, especially when a lot of my mutuals do support Palestine. not in a ultra crazy way like most do, but they're just reposting some of the expose stuff.

So, I'm very much on Israel's side in this whole thing. To state it simply, Hamas has been attacking and killing innocent Israelis for decades. Their goal is the complete eradication of Israel. Hamas isn't interested in peace or a two state solution; they want Israel gone, wiped off the map.

Hamas terrorists are cowards. When they attack Israel, they run and hide behind women and children to prevent Israel from retaliating. They whine and cry to the leftist media about how horrible Israel is and generate ridiculous anti-Israel propaganda. So many times, desiring not to kill innocent civilians and being under the weight of intense pressure from the international community, Israel has backed off and let Hamas go. Hamas then regroups, stockpiles weapons, makes new plans, and attacks Israel again. This cycle has been going on for as long as I can remember.

On October 7th, Hamas invaded Israel and butchered a huge number of innocent Israelis, raped many Israeli women, took a bunch of hostages, and even shot and beheaded Israeli babies. This was by far the worst Hamas attack in recent history. Israel said enough is enough, we're taking Hamas out and rescuing our people who were kidnapped. Hamas has done the same thing they always do, but this time Israel isn't backing down. And they shouldn't. Israel has a right to exist in their own land and defend themselves.

Israel is doing everything they possibly can to save civilians in Gaza. All the stuff you hear about death camps and the like is completely false. If Israel wanted to kill everyone in Gaza, including civilians, they could easily do it. They could glass the whole Gaza strip if they wanted, kill every living thing there. But they haven't done that, and they won't. Israel has continually put their own people at risk to provide help to the Palestinian civilians. But they're committed to bringing Hamas down. They have to be.

It is heartbreaking that innocents have died in this conflict, but their blood is on Hamas, not Israel. Even after everything, Israel has offered numerous ceasefire agreements to Hamas, but Hamas has rejected them all. If Hamas would release the Israeli captives and surrender, the fight would be over tomorrow. But Hamas won't play ball. Israel has no choice.

I don't believe anything I hear in the news from leftist outlets. I don't believe the horrible things they're saying about Israel, because in my experience, it's always half truths spun to make Israel look bad, or else just outright lies about what's happening. The same sort of tactics the leftist media uses to discredit and attack conservatives here in America.

As for supporting refugees, if it can't be done without also supporting the anti-Israel propaganda, then I wouldn't do it. Seek the Lord about other ways you can help.

I hope this post is useful to you. My personal conviction is to stay on Israel's side and be a blessing to the Jewish people as much as possible. I think this is the correct position for all Christians to take.

Little thing I've had rotating in my head for a while while trying to figure out some more Cynosure thing. Just a small little conversation between Toby & Klara. And also Klara fighting demonds (fear of heights).

Orange, almost pink-ish sunlight shone through the door as Klara opened the door. She knew Oliver had a big, terrace-like balcony on the roof of this building he used for gardening.

She wasn't really into the idea of going up there, looking at all these other buildings from so high up.

But she wanted to see Tobias as soon as possible.

Looking around, she noticed him sitting on a gardening box, watching the sunset.

"Hey, enjoying the view?"

Tobias turned around and looked at her with a somewhat surprised face. "Klara? What are you doing here, honey? Could've called me or sent a message, so I could have come downstairs and you wouldn't have to get, well," he gestured around, "up here."

"Don't worry, I'll be fine, I just," Klara looked to the right for a moment and noticed that this building is, in fact, high. Clearly doing her best to control her voice and while ignoring her slightly trembling hands, she said, "Ah, maybe this wasn't such a good idea. No, wait, no need to get up, I'll be there in a moment." She walked slowly, looking at the floor, sometimes looking a bit up to see how far she is from the box Tobias is sitting on.

He rose up a bit and stretched out his arm for her to grab, then gently pulled her into his embrace and hugged her. "Hey now, you okay? What's with the heroics?"

"I thought it wouldn't look this bad..."

"Do you want to leave?"

"No!" Klara hugged him harder and leaned her cheek on his shoulder. "Let's stay here for a moment."

"If you insist..." he murmired and kissed her shoulder.

"Mhm, I do." Klara looked down over his shoulder. "That mug reminds me of you. How cute."

"Haha, well, I made it when I was a child. Or, well, not exactly made it, but... It was some specific mug they used to sell with markers so children could draw something on them. Dad got it for some event, I don't really remember which, but I do remember drawing the little sun on both sides, so it would ve visible no matter how you held the cup, in case someone else would use it," he paused for a moment, "It was in his kitchen cupboard this whole time. I don't think anyone has touched it, to be honest... I'm a bit surprised the drawings are still there, I mean, it's been over thirty five years..."

"Sounds like he took good care of it. Or you are good with markers."

"Hmm..."

"Mind if I finish your coffee?"

"Be my guest, honey."

Klara reached for the mug and leaned back, taking a sip. The coffee was cold, almost as cold as the breeze. "How long have you been sitting here?"

"Since lunch time. He, um, told me what's going on? Decided that maybe I should go look at the view while I still can. It's beautiful here..." He paused and looked around for a while. "Oh, and I also managed to finish crocheting the left sleeve of the cardigan that's been a work in process for too long, ever since- Well, ever since that whole thing. Do you think it's cold there? On Mars?"

"I think they fixed the weather with terraforming."

"Aww. But surely there's a cardigan weather or something."

"I'm sure they have," she finished the coffee and leaned over to place the mug to its previous place, "You're taking this very...calmly."

Tobias chuckled and held her hand gently. "What's there to worry about?" He kissed her hand and looked at her, soft and loving look on his face. "Honey, your plans always work."

"Thank you, darling," Klara leaned closer and kissed him on his forehead. "Think you'll still think the same way once everything happens?"

"Well, sure. The psychotherapist says that turning a new page could help. And what could be more 'new' than moving to a completely different planet."

Klara smiled. "You're my favorite little optimist."

"Doing my best. Now, how about we go downstairs and see if Oliver's ready with dinner."

Probably not! I suppose that they could have hair, and I personally do enjoy the idea that the turtles (or at least some of the turtles) grow hair later in life, since Mikey had those sick old man sideburn things in the future, but I think they probably are relatively close to their canon designs when in 'turtle form' in this AU.

They do go to the same school as April! In fact, they're next-door neighbors to her, and they typically commute to school together every day. Sleepovers are a regular thing, and the five of them basically grew up together. April spent nearly as much time in the Hamato household as she did her own, and the Hamatos visited her fairly frequently, too!

Absolutely! I fuckin LOVE Cassandra, there's no way I'm leaving her out. She's kickin' around with the Foot right now, and she will definitely show up in this AU!

Yes and no! This is definitely something I plan on addressing in-depth in the fic/comic that I'm now working on, because I'm easily persuaded to do things and also really wanna keep talking about this, but he definitely does still have a connection to his heritage that he passes on to his kids. They've all learned Japanese from their father in this universe because 1) the parenting class said sharing your heritage with your kids is good and that this is a really good age to learn languages 2) Splinter finds it very difficult to share a lot of aspects of his culture/family with his children, given his relationship with the rest of the Hamatos, but this felt like something he could comfortably give to them.

No #spoilers, but they would almost definitely find out by the time they all become adults, either through their own means or through Splinter either confessing (or being confronted) on the topic.

I think it depends a lot on which turtle, and I don't think any of them know the answer yet. I don't think I know what any of them would choose yet! Being mutant turtles is definitely an intrinsic part of them, whether they like it or not, that they can't just ignore, but at this point, they've basically spent their entire lives living as 'normal people' in human society with no idea that they're anything different. I don't think any of them would be willing to throw that away and move down into the sewers, especially not right off the bat. But I don't think any of them would be willing to just put the bracelets back on and pretend nothing ever happened, either! Definitely something that will be explored in-depth in the story.

The Shredder will definitely play a role in this AU. As previously stated, the Foot and Draxum are both present in this world at the moment. I don't currently have any plans for the Krang and how they might feature, but that doesn't mean that they won't!

I'm not taking the 'Shinichi not being dead' has to stay a secret too seriously at this point. From the beginning neither the police or his school was told anything had happened to him. The media knew he had disappeared and Miyano Shiho confirmed him dead as a temporary fix for the Black Organisation but any investigation into his friends or family situation would reveal he isn't reported missing and definitely hasn't had any kind of funeral service. This is especially true with the sporadic temporary antidotes (accidental and otherwise) and the fact that Conan, Heiji, Ran, his parents and possibly a few others contact 'Shinichi' via email, text and by phone - where they hear his voice. Shinichi and his parents' haven't actually got in trouble from his absences or lack of schoolwork during this period so I assume he is set up with some kind of homeschooling or has an agreement to do some tests/assignments either to make up for missing school or skip the time he missed, but because that isn't very interesting the audience doesn't see it. The Clark Kent Effect means having a slightly different appearance and personality from the 'real' Shinichi, be it as an actual child or a teen, means any similarities can be reasonably ignored by most people if a rational explanation is given as well as the fact that children are odd by nature and no means of de-aging someone is thought to exist. When the BO figure out the shrinking option potentially exists things got harder, Sherry is more valuable than a random witness as she is codenamed and an important researcher (also Shinichi was too famous by his own merits and his parents' to quietly disappear, it would have been smarter for Gin and Vodka just to knock him out before he saw anything too important and leave it down to Shinichi's normal ability to find trouble) plus they were seriously considering it during the hunt for her and knew what to look for with Shiho/Ai, they gave up because they were repeatedly proven 'wrong' and had other evil things to do. By that point in the story Ai was not only seriously trying to make an antidote, which would truly ruin the 'Shinichi is dead' argument though it was a temporary measure by Shiho and poorly done on Shinichi's end to truly work for years on end, and they'd also made allies of the CIA and FBI which drastically changed the Conan and Ai alone against the great evil stakes. From their Gosho started introducing new characters as we see them from the rightfully paranoid children's perspective of 'which of these is a bad guy and to what extent can the rest be trusted with our secrets', most of them were more undercover agents but some of them were like Hondou Eisuke (Sera Masumi) or were also after the Black Organisation but had issues with the 'good guys' too like Amuro and Wakasa, though Amuro was just so popular Gosho changed his plans for him and then decided to make more familiar characters (dead or alive) connected in some way to add more depth to varying results. Conan and 'Sleeping Kogorou' are at this point regarded as bigger threats to the BO then Shinichi ever was so him being alive would mostly endanger Ai and expose the Mouris, Conan is too famous for it to be impossible for comparisons between him and a young Shinichi to be made but on the other hand like the Kudous presumably were the Mouris aren't so easily gotten rid of (because of how deeply involved with the police they are with FBI and PSB protection) and the BO needs more information before making their next move against them.

I preferred the earlier Detective Conan where Conan often found cases that somehow linked to what the BO was involved in and characters like Hirota Masami/Miyano Akemi and Kusuda Rikumichi would sometimes show up as members without codenames who were hidden amongst the normal suspects. I guess making even the BO members without codenames too sympathetic, like the Miyano Family, doesn't work and Gosho won't let his heroes dirty their hands so scary characters are limited too.

I liked that Shinichi got to go on his school trip (it's hard to believe Mr Popular who played a team sport was only friends with Sonoko and Ran at school), though it was largely to illustrate his tolerance to the antidote, and the fact that all his allies did their best to gaslight the BO into Shinichi not being there (it seemed meant for comedy, it bought time at best as it's not actually believable but there are limits to what the BO can do against an entire class without drawing attention to itself never mind the media so I can believe they are mostly safe). Ran not being told for her protection makes no sense in the current circumstances of her family and friends being endangered while she's strong enough to protect them if she knows there is a threat and at least needs to know who to trust, in-universe Shinichi's probably just doing all he can to keep Ran as a kind of safe-space for Shinichi to exist as separate from Conan without the antidote (something he hasn't lost to the BO). From Gosho's perspective Ran's allowed to routinely notice because she's too smart not to but her knowing will either endanger the romance between Shinichi and Ran as she can't love a child as a teenager or the foster sibling relationship between Ran and Conan both of which are huge selling points (it's like how Conan's is considered the main character instead of Shinichi as we care more about what's Conan's up to then what Shinichi left behind).

One of the biggest unfortunate circumstances of DC is the real-world time. Because of how long they are running, the plot grows more complicated.

Every time I return to the manga/anime, more characters/plot lines are added. Despite how much I love the characters, it feels like they were added to keep the story interesting and longer.

I love Sera and Amuro. I really do. But ever since their introduction, I've lost track of the story.

I think the author wants to build a reliable army to defeat the BO, but instead of focusing on developing his current characters. He decided to bring in newer and shinier ones.

While it's not always a bad thing, the FBI is a proxy for the MPD. However, a character such as Ran, even though she could have been a reliable protector for Shinichi, the possibility of their romance being jeopardized has brought in Sera.

To maintain Kogoro's role as a comic relief, Amuro was introduced.

And I think Chihaya is either a proxy to anyone in MPD or is just added in for more plots.

All of these new characters are allowed to know Conan's identity or the BO because they are written to be related to the victims of the BO's crimes.

This keeps the established characters staying the same while also helping to build stronger and more reliable supportive casts.

It just gets really crowded, and the story is now overly complicated.

Side note: I think Kaito is a proxy for the Detective Boys. Since the kids are too young and not smart enough to be part of defeating the BO. He has that unexpected ally aspect that the kids have while also being more useful. (No one thinks that kids are involved in this as much as they think KID is)

A Field of Spider Lilies - TCF

So uh- Does anyone remember for like Nov last year where I mentioned a Twin AU for Trash of the Count's Family? Yeah, I was thinking about it again because it got buried in my notes and I recently uncovered it.

It took me FOREVER to think of a name for this AU but I wanted to give it one because I actually really do want to write this and would love to talk about it while I do so :D

Under the cut is gonna be just some info about the au as it stands and MAAAYYYBBBEEEEE a mini clip of what I had written/a plan I have for it.

First and foremost, bada dum! The title "Field of Spider Lilies" has been decided! It literally took me so many things to get to this lol- I was tempted to do "It Takes Two to Terrorize" as a play on "It Takes Two to Tango" but felt this was a bit better in general. I know many people will instantly think of red spider lilies, which is what I want!!! They are a dangerous and ill-thought flower, however, their meaning isn't always so dark.

Using this, since it is closest to my own interpretations of spider liles and their colors, I think each of them fits the twins. There is no specific color I will EVER assign to the lilies of the title, so you can imagine as you will with each part what coloring best fits the story at the time. If they're scamming they could be yellow. Injured? Red. Surrounded by those they love? White. Within a battle or something? Orange. It's all about the perception of the reader for the color, so you may all have fun with this :D

Also, Death would absolutely love if his children were represented by a flower that represented him so you know I'm going to fully use this to my advantage. No one will stop me and my bundle of flower meanings I've been holding onto since I learned they were a thing as a young child-

Kim Rok Soo has been named as well! He has now been dubbed our good boy Arlen! I always find the fact that Cale's name means dog as well as wholehearted fits both Og!Cale and KRS!Cale very well, so I wanted to find a name that also fit Twin!KRS as well. Then I found Arlen. Which means "hare land" (in a direct sense) but also if spelled with an "i" instead of an "e" it means "pledge/oath" which is also very fitting for our boy.

Also. Hare and the Hound. I couldn't not take the opportunity to have the twins be a reference to something. Let alone the fact that it's a story whose moral is essentially; "life is the most precious thing". I COULDN'T NOT DO IT ALRIGHT-

So their names are both a reference to a child's story that fits them as well as a name that fits our good boy KRS in general.

NOW ONTO SOME OF THE ACTUAL INFO ABOUT THE FIC TO BE!(I will be referring to KRS as Arlen, however, fear not, his middle name is Roksu, in reference to the more official translation, and he will be referred to by that as well since he's embarrassed that his name basically means bunny lol.)

Arlen and Cale are telepathic. Not because of the typical 'time to have creepy telepathic twin time' because let's be real these two can and will learn how to communicate with nothing but staring at one another even if they weren't. They are telepathic though because the GoD felt a little bit bad about making them children again and wanted to give them a way to communicate early on. At least he only turned them into toddlers!

Jour, since her ancient power lets her see time, knows very well that something happened. She doesn't know what it is because even her power has its limits, but she knows she was only meant to have one child, but loves both her boys equally. The day they 'awaken' into their new bodies, she is also very aware that their time has yet again changed. She's worried, but still never tells anyone her plan.

Cale is an emotional mess but hides it. Arlen is an emotional mess but ignores it. Ron is about at his wit's end at this point between the two of them. And he's an assassin. He should have more patience than this-

They also cannot completely suppress their child-like instincts, which is both funny as if one cries the other probably will as well, but also horrible for when they're a bit older because oh y'know...trauma response from Arlen when he was Kim Rok Soo.

Cale is ever so slightly older and has decided despite their plan to stick close to the early plot up until Choi Han since nothing big happens before then(that they are aware of because Cale barely remembers half of what happened after his family died, he was kind of too numb to), that he is going to not let anyone hurt Arlen. Cause y'know. Telepathy. And Record. In a child's body.

I am very much not letting anyone forget Rok Soo grew up with that curse and if he ever had to be a younger child closer to the time he was around his uncle he probably wouldn't be able to help his instincts. Since even in canon he notes how trauma for a child is so scary for that very reason- Okay y'all get it I'll stop u-u

Anyway, Cale has seen some of the 'nightmares' his brother has and is wondering if after they ensure they can live peacefully even with the war that happens (Cale doesn't know they would have lost the war- he was too distracted and numb to truly care for much else than fighting those who wronged him!) if there is a way to get some petty revenge against those from another world.

In regards to Ancient Powers, I do have a plan, but if I share this, it t will be some major spoilers soooo maybe you'll have to wait for now >:3c

Finally, in this long tirade I've been on- I have a little snippet from when the first day they awoke!

I do have plans to do a bit of stuff pre-TCF plot with the twins since it will help build the dynamic I want as well as just give some fun interactions I believe we all deserve. Of course, there will be some serious, some fun, and some embarrassing childhood memories to be shown that Cale would will definitely get chased over if he told them.

Please feel free to ask/suggest/or just comment about this au!!!! I would love to talk about it more in general since I'm still fleshing out quite a bit of it :D

Mikado Sannoji is such a weird character, man.

He is such a big ball of mental health issues, but I'm honestly unsure if Linuj even planned for him to come across as that (although, considering the creator we are talking about, I doubt it was on purpose).

Like, Mikado tells us that he believes himself to be some sort of superior being thanks to his non-human nature, but everything else about him proves that notion to be completely wrong: Mikado desperately wants to be human.

And who can blame him? He was born as just some guy's alter ego, he had all his memories and yet he was intimately aware that all these experiences weren't really 'his'. He was just a test subject, to see if the technology could work, and then he would have either been forgotten forever or, worse, completely deleted, once they moved onto making the Utsuro alter ego.

He refers to Human Mikado and Kokoro as his parents, though it is unknown if he ever used such terms to their faces, because of course he did: all children have parents, no matter how absent or abusive, so by referring to them as his 'parents' he is humanising himself. And that also shows his desire to be a separate person from the 'real' Mikado Sannoji: he is his father, but they aren't the same person.

His desire to be his own person also explains why he is blonde in the VR: it makes him different from the other Mikado. And then he puts on a cape and a silly hat, becomes a wizard and covers his face, the only thing he cannot change and that will always make him look like the 'real' Mikado, with a mask.

So clearly, Mikado is dealing with identity issues here. Issues that keep on getting worse as the other Mikado continues to input more information, making him more and more aware.

And then he finds out about the plan to make the Utsuro AI, and Mikado AI finds it absolutely idiotic. He almost immediately comes up with a better plan, one that had more opportunities to actually work that IRL Mikado's.

And here AI Mikado starts developing a sense of superiority: he is the smarter one, the one that actually can bring Utsuro back from the dead, so he deserves to be the only Mikado. Two of the same person simply can't coexist in AI Mikado's mind, and the lesser one has to disappear.

And that is then the reason why Mikado pays Syobai to commit the murder.

It's completely unsurprising that Mikado's mind went to murder as his first instinct: even if his entire self wasn't based on some dude that set orphanages on fire just to see his saviour again, he was surrounded by nothing but enablers. Kokoro just ignored all the red flags, interested by the fact that an AI could develop the desire to kill his creator, and poured her attention into helping him, effectively reinforcing his beliefs, and Syobai... Well, he just cares about getting paid.

It's implied he never even met the rest of Void face to face, let alone actually have conversations with them outside of business, but they all also reinforced his beliefs by simply going along with his plan.

And then, his plan was to kill Utsuro in the end, steal his powers, and then take over Akane Taira's body and live as a real human being. Which I find interesting, actually, that he would choose her body specifically: out of all the people stuck in the VR that died, he went to steal a girl's body, huh.

The closet is glass.

So yeah, Linuj wrote (probably accidentally) a character with identity, superiority AND inferiority issues, and that's without touching all the other fucked up things that make up Mikado Sannoji.

I can somewhat understand Kokoro tbh, I'd also love to study this guy.

Ever since you arrived in San Francisco, all you wanted to do was go into the library a few blocks away from your new home. It was, simply put, the place of your dreams. It was made of brick, a vine covered its walls, leaving only the windows free to let the sunlight in during the day. The door was made of glass, golden letters with the word "local library" rested impeccably on the transparent material. Ever since you set foot in the city, all you wanted was to go in there, take a book with you and walk to the coffee shop in front of it, be able to drink your favorite coffee and enjoy a good read while listening to the ambient music that the place had. Yes, a dream come true.

It took you much longer than planned to be able to carry out that plan, you had forgotten how busy it was to move. A week had passed, most of your furniture had a place, your clothes were still in the suitcases, but you weren't too worried about it, it was a quick thing to fix, and your eagerness to get into the place was significantly greater.

It was five o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, you remember it very lucidly. You opened those big glass doors and held in a gasp of excitement as you saw how big and beautiful it was inside.

The whole place was covered with small plants. Hundreds of shelves surrounded the place, all divided by sections, from children's literature to economics books.

Mischievous laughter caught your attention, you almost choked when you noticed that it also had a children's section that tried to encourage reading among the next generations through art and creativity.

You closed your eyes and mentally screamed at the sky, you were in fucking heaven.

You spent the afternoon among shelves, books and plants, too excited to notice what was going on around you. You had visited almost every section, except for one; recipe books. You were never great in the kitchen, you weren't bad, but you preferred to save yourself the suffering of accidentally cutting yourself, or putting too much salt in a meal, or, in the worst case, almost burning the kitchen, so you were never too interested in the subject. Despite that, you shrugged your shoulders and walked into those aisles, looking at the odd one or two that had a cover that made your guts growl with hunger.

The next thing that happened was a bit of a blur, it happened so fast you weren't even sure what had happened. A loud thump on your back sent you crashing into the bookshelf in front of you, causing one or another book to swing off its perch. You, who were too busy rubbing your head and cursing whoever had pushed you, completely ignored the fact that one of the books was about to fall on your head. By the time you realized it, the book was almost on your head, what's more, you were already assimilated, you could feel the bump start to grow and the pain create a crystalline layer of water over your eyes, yes, you could already feel even the ice pack to ease the pain.

"That was close" muttered a man behind you. It took you a while to realize he was holding the book just above your head, "Are you okay?".

You turned around to get a better look at him so you could thank him properly. You almost choked when you saw him from the front.

He was taller than you, had big brown eyes, his hair was long and messy, barely kept in a low bun. His smile was so friendly you almost couldn't believe it belonged to him, a guy with body tattoos, an ear piercing and a very 80's rock outfit.

"I'm so sorry, my niece is kind of hyper" an embarrassed chuckle escaped his lips, bringing his hand to his hair and messing it up slightly.

You looked to your left as you noticed a small pink shadow move. A little girl, no more than 7 years old, was standing next to you. She had her brown hair tied up in a messy braid with a pink bunny pin. She looked nervous, her paint-stained hands fiddling with the skirt of her kitten dress gave her away instantly.

"Jessica Taylor Harrington, come apologize to the lady."

You almost had a heart attack when you heard what he called you. God, was all your bad luck finally fading away? Was this a sign that you were made for life in San Francisco?

"I'm so sorry, Miss Pretty," the girl murmured, her fingers intertwining with each other, avoiding your gaze at all costs, "I didn't mean to hurt you."

It almost melted your heart to see her little eyes look at you with sorrow and regret. You weren't a fan of children, but there was always an exception, wasn't there?

"It's nothing, don't worry" you smiled as you watched his face light up as she looked at the man from earlier. He smiled back, giving her both thumbs up in excitement, the black book that almost fell on your head rested under his arm.

"Alright, let's get this back where it belongs and-" the man's voice lowered its volume as he paused on the book's cover, "Oh, lucky you" a bright smile crept onto his face, showing the book to Jessica, "isn't this the one your dad needed?"

The man turned around, his eyes fixed on you, a smile still on him. You felt your heart race as you watched the sunlight hit his back and made him glow.

"Yes?" he asked in a soft voice. The little girl in his arms watched you two curiously, her small hands wrapped around Eddie's neck.

"Thank you, for catching the book" you smiled embarrassed, trying to ignore the butterflies in your stomach. "Could you, I don't know, tell me your name? I want to know what the guy's name is who just made me save an ice pack."

You smiled as you heard him laugh at your joke. You liked that sound, it looked good on him.

"I'm Eddie" he held out his free hand to you, shaking it as soon as you wrapped yours around it.

"Y/N, a pleasure".

"Well, see you soon" he murmured, his hand still entwined with yours.

You nodded, your cheeks lighting up quickly. "That I hope, Eddie".

He just smiled back at you, this time a little wider than before. He pulled Jessica up a little higher, walking over to the counter and resting the book on it.

"Were you flirting with Miss Pretty?" the girl said, giving him a playful look that Eddie knew all too well.

"Of course not" Eddie whispered, hoping you didn't hear what he was saying.

"Liar" she laughed, hugging Eddie by the neck tightly, "mommy and daddy will love the news."

Eddie just rolled his eyes, knowing what was coming next. Jessica would run to the coffee shop across the street and tell Steve everything, Steve would tell his wife everything, and finally the three of them would pester him about this incident for the rest of his life. At least, Eddie thought, Jessica had helped him be able to talk to you instead of standing there for almost an hour staring at you from afar.

Okok so I'm gonna try my best to answer all ur qs

(also u are under no obligation to read all of this, it turned out a lot longer than I expected :D)

1. Basically, after the attack (I'm assuming u mean after Hollow stabs themself but if not I'd be happy to talk about the actual confrontation lol) there's a lot of panic regarding whether Hollow's going to survive or not, so there's not really any time to properly process the whole "holy fuck the thing I thought was a bastardisation of the corpse of my child is actually just my child," so it's only after Hollow's been stabilised that I can imagine PK and WL sitting down and coming to terms with it.

The infection REALLY does a number on u, both mind and body, so Hollow's basically just snoozing in some sort of (dreamless) healing coma while their parents have a breakdown at their bedside. I imagine PK and WL's relationship to have been pretty strained since the vessel plan was enacted, like they still love each other but they can't really seem to agree on anything anymore.

Ditching the vessel plan is the first thing they've wholly agreed on in 17 years.

2. So! Immediately after they wake up, I think there'd be a lot of overcompensation on WL's part. She was never a mother to Hollow and she feels IMMENSELY guilty about that fact, so she'd probably start trying to be super motherly to them, giving them food, being affectionate, trying to start conversations, etc, which freaks Hollow tf out bc it's a COMPLETE 180 to how she interacted with them before. Before the reveal, she was super detached, kind of like she is towards Ghost in the game, mostly in an attempt to remove herself from the entire situation?? Like if she doesn't acknowledge them she can't get lost in her grief?? Cuz I imagine she genuinely believed that the void had sucked out her child's soul and was piloting around their corpse (or something of the like) and then there's the GUILT of the whole situation, KNOWING that you had a part to play in the death of so many of your children, that you were complicit to something so cruel?? I don't think she'd be able to truly face it, so she basically just let herself ignore them. And the most she ever really saw of them was when they were sent to guard her gardens and Hornet dragged them from their post.

So. Now she's seizing the opportunity to finally get to know her child, but she's also not really taking their feelings into account on top of ignoring the very real trauma that Hollow has from being treated like a glorified roomba their entire life. Her main coping strategy seems to be to just. Ignore her problems lmao (she like me fr fr)

3. SO. Pk. Whooo boy.

At this point, I don't think he'd realise that Hollow was never hollow, bc then he'd have to face the possibility that none of the vessels were hollow, and if that's the case, how many of his children has he killed?? He knows a fair few of the vessels were stillborn, but how many hatched and died at the bottom of the abyss, cold and alone and scared??

(Yes the vessels hatched, yes this is a gijinka au where most people are born like humans. Higher beings are weird and also non human, moving on)

So PK at this point believes that at some point while growing up, Hollow had an idea instilled and,, gained consciousness?? Ig?? And he likely blames himself bc of course he does.

With PK there's a lot of guilt there, which I think would mostly lead to complete avoidance, bc "surely my child doesn't want to see me after how I've treated them, I'd better give them space,"

Meanwhile Hollow is wondering whether their fears truly have come true and their father does hate them for not being pure.

Just. A lot of miscommunication.

When they finally talk it out, there WILL be tears.

4. The Dreamers!!

With Herrah, I think she'd be a pretty big support for Hollow during their recovery. I don't think Herrah was ever truly convinced that Hollow was pure?? Like she witnessed a lot of small moments between them and her daughter while they thought nobody was looking, along with subtle mannerisms that just. Wouldn't be there if they were pure.

Like, Hornet once roped them into playing hide and seek with her, and as smart as her baby is, the Pure Vessel, were they completely hollow, would only be able to act when given orders, and there's no way a 5 year old managed to give complex enough orders for them to be able to follow. She probably just yelled at them to play with her and they did lmao (bc they can't say no to their bby sister duh)

Herrah was also on the outside, so there was no reason for her to go into denial or detach herself the way Hollow's parents did, so she'd be much more likely to notice them shifting on their feet, their ear flicking when they tune into a nearby conversation, the way they'd lean into any and all contact with other people, how reluctant they are to let Hornet down when she no longer wants to be carried by them, etc etc.

Herrah may be titled the Beast, but she's not stupid. However, at this point, she's seen them spar with the Knights, she knows that they would be able to escape unnoticed if they wanted to, they're definitely skilled enough. So that means that if they end up being sealed inside the temple, it's their decision, and she respects them for that.

She also notices how reverently they treat their little sister, so if nothing else, they can bond over their mutual adoration of her.

Herrah's a pretty abrasive woman, loud and unapologetic, so I figure she'd be a nice change to the coddling of their mother, and Herrah ends up promising them a place in deepnest if they ever feel the need to escape the palace.

Herrah's the only dreamer I've really thought about?? And since she was there when the incident happened, she's very present for pretty much the entirety of Hollow's recovery. The other 2 don't really come into it till later, so for now let's just say they're all probably pretty relieved that they don't have to sacrifice themselves anymore lmao.

5. The 5 Great Knights!!

I don't have anything super specific about these guys yet? But I imagine they'd be friendly to Hollow. Hollow looks up to them all quite a lot and they were probably the closest things they had to friends growing up?? But honestly not much really changed there except they start trying to bring them into conversations, and they're always willing to spar if Hollow ever wants to.

6. Finally, RADIANCE!!

So I imagine that after Hollow has stabilised, PK will immediately start trying to distract himself by basically preparing for war. If it wasn't personal before, it definitely is now. The Radiance discovered his child's sentience before anyone else and what's the first thing she does?? Turn them into a weapon to be used against him (slightly hypocritical of u there my guy)

There's probably a lot of feelingsy bullshit that everyone (ESPECIALLY the royal family) needs to work thru before any action can really be made against Radi, so for the most part she's just simmering in the background. Her who was probably bruised when Hollow managed to wrestle control away from her so she's probably licking her wounds in the dream realm, but after a few months, infection rates start to REALLY spike again, because she is PISSED.

I could make PK and Radi duke it out but I kinda wanna lean into Hollow’s empathy?? Like they’re hyper empathetic and I feel like after having Radi in their head for a while they’d come to understand her anger?? Like they still want her gone but they understand that she has every reason to be pissed at PK, at least from her pov. (I’ll get into Hollow’s feelings regarding Radi in a later post bc this is getting ridiculously long now lmao)

So maybe eventually they can come to an agreement with Radi?? I’m not sure on the details but I don’t think I wanna just kill her off.

5. worst discord server and why

idk the modding one? because it has a billion channels and as soon as I joined I got overwhelmed, muted it and haven't opened it again. you say wonc like I'm not logging on every day and going into a brainrot thread to play ocs. sammy and I are deep in a brain cancer arc right now. xD

16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

getting Johnny back his original body. I don't hate it, but it seems like such an easy fix given how the original relic trials went and that it's not just growing a new limb but a whole body including the brain. saburo doesn't even do that with all his money in the DE, which tells me it probably would take a while to grow a clone like that, if it's even possible (if it was, why would they have tested on random bodies and know that that process works best with relatives?). and it's not like johnny was ever a well-adjusted guy in his original body.

I know the answer is fix-it fic. But I'm surprised more people don't want to explore the inherent body issues/compromises in the genre. But! I do think it's interesting if people do or do not write Johnny getting a cybernetic arm again -> something that both fucked him up and defined him. what a choice between honoring what was and trying to get a truly clean slate. anyway it's something like the happy ending with children thing where I don't personally see the appeal, and that's okay. I was just honestly surprised it was so popular!

I already complained about tech and the blackwall in a previous post. I guess on replays I really get bored playing Johnny's sequences or doing the BD stuff because once you know what happens it's just a slog to get through.

overhyped would mean that I hear about it a lot? and I so rarely hear meta discussions that I'm kinda starved for it. I guess I'm disappointed to hear the sequel in planning has a big AI component because I wasn't a fan of how the story seems to be going in the original game (i.e. I think they're going with a straight forward apocalypse monster angle which doesn't serve the underlying themes the way I personally want it to, which as we all know is what would be objectively correct).

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

this is a hard one because again I don't see a lot of discussion about it but again I see very little lore discussion so I could pick anything.

I think it's fascinating Johnny never once discusses where he gets the bomb (it's a Militech bomb) or the fact that bombing Arasaka tower is as good for Militech as it is for him. I thought maybe it'd come up in PL but nope! in game there's a shard that describes a Militech convoy being robbed by nomads, implied to be the one that was carrying nuclear armaments. was it a setup by Militech? or did they not want it stolen but get what they wanted anyway when they got Arasaka thrown out of NC? How did that contribute to the war later where NUSA tried to grab NC and failed and resulted in Dogtown's creation and Arasaka being let in? When Johnny signed up as a corpo soldier who was it that he joined? Was it Militech or some other corp that broke him by sending him into battle? Why can't you even discuss the fallout of Johnny's actions? Especially in that dream of his where he apologizes to the netrunner whose husband got killed in the blast? (does anyone else think it's spooky you can find that NPC selling vinyls on the street?)

Anyway besides Johnny's enormous hate-on for Arasaka I want to know what his opinions are on the other major corpo players beyond the simple fact he thinks they suck. But not even canon delivers on that sadly.
