BASIC INFORMATION:
NAME: Catalina Rojas. AGE: 33. PLACE OF BIRTH: Porto Velho, California, United States. AFFILIATION: The Rutherford Family. OCCUPATION: Manager of The Underground. Drug dealer. FACE CLAIM: Diane Guerrero. AVAILABILITY: TAKEN.
BIOGRAPHY:
“If you studied law, how the fuck did you end up working behind a bar?”
Funny how they always asked like it was any of their damn business…
“Because making bank flashing my fantastic cleavage to idiots who ask stupid questions—you’re welcome for the honour, by the way—is much less time consuming.”
Not to mention upholding the law felt slightly hypocritical given her ties to the Rutherfords.
The number of people coming to resent them might’ve been growing by the day, but she adored her second family with her entire soul. From her early childhood, when she’d first met Lara Rutherford at their fancy Porto Velho private school, the two girls had been inseparable. Though to a much lesser degree, Catalina had also been born into privilege and boy, did she enjoy every fucking minute of it. Some people felt it crass to flaunt what they hadn’t earned, but life was fucking short. Her parents hadn’t worked their asses off for their only daughter to live like a peasant.
Even as a child, she had been insufferably rambunctious; wise beyond her years and ready to step on whomever it took to achieve what she wanted from life. And perhaps that was why she and Lara were drawn to each other so immediately. Their similarities were vast. In fact, the only real difference between the two was that Lara hid it all behind an angelic façade, whereas Catalina had never cared what people thought. Nor would she start caring any time soon.
Catalina’s parents had often scolded her for her lifestyle—even if half-heartedly—purely because they thought she could do better. An abundance of natural intelligence and wit had been wasted on her, apparently. The absolute cheek. When she’d applied to Harvard Law, it wasn’t because she wanted to be a lawyer like Lara did. Instead, it was an attempt to prove to her parents that she could do anything they could do whilst being able to keep her best friend at her side during the best years of their lives. School had been an absolute breeze—perhaps, even more so than it had been for the Rutherford—and she supposed maybe that was unfair. It took a special kind of privileged asshole to be able to ‘fall back’ on graduating from Harvard if things didn’t pan out the way she wanted.
During her university days, she had always been the life of the party. Notorious for it, in fact, for long after her years there had passed. Lara was tamer in that respect, but her brother sure wasn’t. Whenever she and Damon got together? Trouble was sure to follow.
When they’d all headed back to the city they called home—a social stomping ground that belonged solely to them—she had continued the same party lifestyle she’d grown so accustomed to back in Massachusetts. Eventually, though, and rather unsurprisingly, her parents became frustrated with her leeching off their wealth whilst offering them very little in return. Staying out until six in the morning, stumbling home coked up and drunker than anybody else on the strip, was not becoming. Or so she was told. Catalina could’ve argued she was doing the Lord’s work and people would’ve believed her because it damn well felt good to her.
But they were persistent.
Terrified by the prospect of a legal career weighing down her carefree existence, however, she instead sought another path entirely. And that was where the relationship that she’d grown so fond of over the years with Damon came in handy. Where else could you make a living being the life of the party, if not the Porto Velho strip? Catalina hadn’t even had to ask for a job. One subtle hint, and she was working at his casino with a snap of his fingers. So much for university being the best years of her life, because she was just getting started…
It was hard to pinpoint an exact time where she realised that the Rutherford family was not all it seemed to be. Perhaps Lara had been scared to be honest with her; wrongly assuming that Catalina would be put off by the less than legal means that the majority of their wealth stemmed from. Like she’d honestly give a fuck. Andrew was like a second father to her—only ever pretending to be irked when she referred to him as ‘dad’ as she made herself at home in his certifiable mansion—and he could do what he damn well pleased. Catalina would defend any of them to the death, because she was sure they would do the same for her.
Strangely enough, it was he who had approached her personally about an entirely new source of income aside from working for Damon.
Whilst she’d never been a particularly heavy drug user—and only the partying kind, thanks very much—she knew her way around the circles well enough that it wasn’t outside of her comfort zone. The reputation she had built within the upper echelons of Porto’s social circle, and not to mention the rapport she had with some of the city’s highest rollers thanks to her work as a hostess at The Empire Hotel & Casino, made her the perfect candidate for peddling drugs. Only the best for the best, and they’d damn well pay for it when she smiled at them the way she did.
The money she was taking home from her casino work was fucking fantastic, but it didn’t even compare to what she could make taking a slice of the Rutherford’s drug business. Andrew trusted her, and he knew she had enough of a spine not to shy away from something a little sketchier. It was a perfect match up that served them both well for years.
Of course, when Lara and Adriana had made the move to London, Catalina had initially hesitated. Whilst she adored her friends more than anything, she’d built such a cushy lifestyle for herself in California that she wasn’t entirely convinced it would translate to a whole new city. And a miserable, warring city, at that… To nobody’s surprise, though, she’d only lasted a few months without her family. Whilst she might’ve declined the offer at first—to deal in the same business courtesy of Andrew, once again—she was on a private jet like a lost puppy before Porto could even begin to miss her sisters.
London wasn’t entirely unfamiliar to her. Catalina had often taken trips with Lara when she would visit her home country, and occasionally, even went to visit her good friend, Diana, on her own dime. The people weren’t entirely dissimilar from those back in the States. If anything, the rich folk seemed even more tightly wound this side of the ocean, and it made them much easier targets so far as a suggesting a little pick me up was concerned. Though Damon had offered her a comparable role at London’s version of the Empire to the one she’d held previously, she’d politely declined when Lara had approached her to manage the string of bars she was planning to open. The crowning jewel? The Underground. Given that she’d always been an eager attendee of Fight Club back when it’d be starting out in Porto, she was more than happy to help run things here.
Things in the city are getting testy, and she’d be a fucking idiot not to be concerned. Porto Velho had been left on fairly bad terms when the Italians and Russians started shooting each other in the streets, though, so at least she has yet another reminder for when shes feeling homesick, eh? Just like always, she tries her best to push it from her mind, and not only favour enjoying life to its absolute fullest in spite of everyone else’s bullshit, but making sure others do the same.
SOCIAL CONNECTIONS:
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single. FAMILY: None playable. CONNECTIONS:
Lara Rutherford: Best friend. Oldest friend. Sister. Closest confidant. All terms she could use to describe the woman she will never be without. Lara has given her so much in life without even realising, and Catalina will always be grateful for her. Things have been tough the last few years, and certainly not without bumps in the road, but no matter what happens, what decisions she makes about the fate of their new home, Catalina will always stand loyally at her side.
Adriana Amaro & Diana Sehgal: Best friends. Forever the inseparable foursome. The best part about being in London, without doubt, is that they can finally all be together permanently, instead of missing Diana. Like Lara, she has known Adriana for almost as long as she can remember, but whilst her relationship with Diana is shorter lived, they're arguably closer. They're her go-to girls for a good time. She would literally die for these bitches, okay?
Damon Rutherford: Good friend. Catalina sees Damon like the brother she never had. Whenever they get together, there's never a dull moment. Truly, an infamous duo back in Porto, and she's intent on cultivating the same reputation in London. Offering her the job at his casino is what shot her into the life she adores, and she will bend over backwards to repay him for the faith he showed in her.
Eleanor Shipley: Friend. Though she often gets in trouble for attempting to lead perhaps the nicest member of their friendship group astray, Catalina has grown to like her over the years. Not so much in the beginning, mind you, but given her relationship with Lara, there was really no way of getting away from her. Eleanor is a little tame for her liking, but she's endearing enough in her own way to stop Catalina disliking her, at least...
Henry García: Friend. It was hard to avoid him when he was Lara's bodyguard, but even more so now that they're in a relationship. Henry isn't the typical type of person she would befriend, but perhaps that's why it works so well. Opposites attract and all that. Catalina is fairly sure she drives him up the wall with her attitude, but if he's in it for the long-haul with Lara, then he's stuck with her for life.
Ayaz Ateş: Friend. Annoying the fuck out of him is quite possibly her favourite pastime, especially now they're in the same city on a permanent basis. Man has a stick shoved so firmly up his ass, Catalina doesn't know how Lara (or herself, for that matter) puts up with him, but she tries her level-best every day to make him regret it. In an affectionate way, of course...

RULE ONE  this account is for roleplay only, i will only be interacting with rp accounts. personal blogs are fine to follow, but please do not interact with my posts.
RULE TWO  it’s completely fine if you don’t agree with the character choices i’ve made, but i ask that you are respectful and kind. no one likes gatekeeping, or drama, and there’s always an option to just not interact.
RULE THREE  anti-batc*st blog, here. please do not follow or interact if you write this content.
RULE FOUR  this blog is for 20+ muns only. there are muses that I write that are underaged, and all of that content is appropriate, but the bottom line is this: i work in childhood education and i would love to keep those worlds separate as this is my hobby in my off-time! please do not lie about your age. it's not cool.
RULE FIVE  i usually use small text, borders, and use no icons - but if there is anything i can do to make my threads more accessible for you: let me know. i'm pretty flexible!
RULE SIX  i am both selective and incredibly slow/sporadic at checking out blogs before following. please be patient with me! i am oc friendly, duplicate friendly, and rp twin friendly as well.
i haven't forgotten about our thread! you don't need to remind me. my muse comes and goes, and adhd brain takes over most of the time. sporadic replies apply. sometimes you'll get a reply within ten minutes, sometimes it'll be months. this is a hobby that i enjoy and never want anyone else to feel pressured to respond.
RULE SEVEN  if you have certain tags blacklisted i make sure that i use the format #cw ____ with no other special characters. there will be dark content mentioned or touched on occasion regarding: general vio_lence, unethical experimentation, mental illness, and parental ab_use (both mental and physical). I make sure that I always tag these when writing.
small little disclaimer: although i write dark content like the subjects listed above, as a domestic ab_use survivor myself with diagnosed mental illness, I treat these subjects with care and NEVER as 'whump factor'. Things like C-PTSD and ab_use is something serious and should be treated as such.
RULE EIGHT  basic ettiquette applies here. i cut my threads, i use reblog karma, and i start a new post for ask answers. i ask that my roleplaying partners do the same. i also reserve the right to unfollow/softblock at any times if i feel as if we are not a good match as roleplaying partners or if i find the content to not match with the content i am trying to write. i am also never offended if any other parties do the same to me.
RULE NINE  for shipping: both of us will need to opt-in for it to be applied. i will never force ships on anyone, and i ask that others do the same. that goes for 'canon ships' as well. If those are referenced they are ALWAYS from a 'different version' of your muse. i also don't write smut on here. not really what i'm looking for in writing, but i'm totally fine with some nsfw on dash.
RULE TEN  multi-storyline threads. i enjoy both including things from other storylines - with the permission of all parties - and keeping everything separate. I usually just follow the lead of my roleplaying partner's preferences.
RULE ELEVEN  ask memes are always the easiest for me to break the ice, but if our muses are supposed to have a pre-established relationship, I'll want to reach out and make sure that we both have an idea of what is 'canon' and how we want their relationship to proceed. basically: i assume nothing except what i learn on your character bio and rules. most of my stuff is pre-52 (and by most i mean all of it), but i've been catching up on infinite frontier stuff to keep things fresh, and current. this information doesn't have to effect our rp threads.
RULE TWELVE  i am not practicing mains on this account, currently.
RULE THIRTEEN  OOC =/= IC. My ideals and morals are not to be reflected in that of the expression/actions/and thoughts of my characters.
RULE FOURTEEN  a lot of my characters are queer and may use different pronouns from canon. please address my muse accordingly- pronouns are in the muse list!
i have a majority of non-male muses on this blog, and although i encourage all of my followers to reach out to whoever they want to react to: i may respond more slowly if the only interactions i receive are with my secondary muse - just as a warning! if you're cool with that then float on, my friend. thanks for reading. :) appreciate it.

daisy in “ashes”
or, nonspecifically, what are cats like goldenflower, ferncloud, and daisy getting up to, anyway?
this is tied to my thoughts on medicinery, so if you’re not caught up, a summary: med cats now only spend about 50% of their time doing “medicine” and it’s more osteopathic than in the books.
[1.7k words, 6 minute read]
daisy's kin (i just finished it)
so i just finished daisy's kin and 😗👌 am i happy with it.
i've always been exploring this, like, i'm lowkey obsessed with developing the role of the nursery queen, and...i don't know what i expected, but this was nice to read.
it was good both that thunderclan valued her and hnnng it was so good.
obsessed, i'm obsessed.
but curiously enough, i'm going to refrain from focusing (too much) on the story part of it. i just, this quote stands in my mind
That is important work.
snow, in response to daisy telling her about her role in thunderclan.
like, (a) it is, and it feels so good to read a book acknowledging that, and (b) it is, and i'm really happy that everyone agrees.
so anyway, i feel like the latest warriors release was tapped in to my brain.
first, it had all of this stuff that happens in mtbnsof (squirrelstar, if you don't read my fic/can't keep track of acronyms, which, understandable), or is going to happen in mtbnsof.
i kind of spoiled a lot of stuff in my book notes, but i'm not doing that again, so moving on.
anyway, i wasn't really excited for daisy's kin and spotfur's rebellion, i just wanted the blackfoot novella.
but damn, i was wrong.
i felt like someone had a line into my brain because daisy's life is exactly what i wanted it to be.
i'm going to talk about that in a moment i just really don't want to understate how fantastic it is to see a warriors novella expand and develop these ideas. i strongly urge you to read daisy's kin if you haven't already. it's really, really good. i'm being deliberately vague about the plot to encourage you to read it.
i think this might go as far as repairing the hole in my heart from "leafpool's wish." i don't think there's anything that can fix the brain rot (although the line in SFR, where she's like "adoption is valid," is close), but the hole? that's healing because of daisy's kin.
and y'all already know how much i hate leafpool's wish.
chapter five: advent
so if you don't read my fic "ashes," chapter five (advent) was published april 10th, and the basic summary is it's the first 3 months of holly/jay/lion's life.
it's a chapter i like, we're going to do a quick breakdown. there are spoilers for this chapter, and also probably the future of the fic. depending on when i actually publish this essay, they may or may not have been covered, so read at your own risk.
so the basic summary of advent is this:
ashfur meets his children
daisy apologizes for not supporting squilf
ashfur announces his children to thunderclan
sandstorm offers motherly advice
squilf has a moment where she's like "i'm not ready for this but you are my whole world
cool.
anyway, daisy has this line that i like:
But Leafpool's young, and she's not a queen. I understand.
she's talking to squilf and is kind of..."i'm here for you."
the implication is that leafpool's job doesn't really extend to kits, past their physical well-being.
and later on, daisy (and ferncloud) are the cats squilf leans on. she's the one who provides a lot of support over jaykit, especially when they're all arguing all the time about it.
she's also a support to the kits. they would all die for her.
daisy gives advice about how well jaykit is growing and reassures squilf it's okay to be kind of bored when they're little and sleeping all the time.
she also has this moment:
"Oh, hush," Daisy said, "I'm just proud she knows so many words."
where hollykit says bb curse and daisy is like "ah yes my daughter! she's so smart!"
anyway, daisy is just...
when hollypaw doesn't know what she wants, she's going to ask daisy for advice. she's a neutral party: squirrelflight is her mother, but daisy is in a not-quite-mother role.
she's the one who notices when leafpool is With Kits. that's her job.
she really does take it as a failure that she didn't notice what was going on with squilf. in the clan, her role is to stop that from happening. i mean, no one really blames her because squilf's kits were early and leafpool was there but...it was 100% her job to not have that happen.
if something had gone wrong, she would have taken it even harder.
(also, ferncloud usually also serves this role, but she has her own litter right now, so that's consuming a fair amount of her time/energy.)
kinship (kind of)
okay, well.
i've been talking about kinship more and more lately.
it's because i'm working on "wing & feather" (aka the jaywing au where dove and jay are siblings), and kinship is a somewhat big deal there.
so anyway, first: my usual preemptive vocabulary lesson:
sraue
litter, littermates.
maach
blood-family unit, sibling (by blood)
maara
den-family unit, denmates (going over this another time)
rru
mother, mother's sister.
rruha
denmother (queen who nursed at same time, or nursery queen)
there, not so bad.
right, so i'm doing a full breakdown of kinship elsewhere, because while the maach side is fairly simple, the maara side is...there are just different rules. they're not more complicated, but they're a second set of rules.
(and then you can have situations where, say, in w&f, by maach, jay and dove are maach with squilf and leaf, but by maara, squilf is rruha to them.)
see so it's complicated.
but we're honing in on rruha for this.
rruha is a term referring basically to any queen who could have nursed you.
using ashes, daisy, ferncloud, and squilf as an example:
if squilf's milk didn't come in (as per canon), fern would have nursed HJL, so ferncloud is rruha to them. (she's also got a maach relationship, but rruha supersedes that.)
similarly, squilf could have nursed fox and ice, so she's rruha to them. (unlike with HJL, she doesn't have a maach relationship to them, because she's not related to ferncloud. the more you know.)
daisy could have nursed either litter (hypothetically? it's a little complicated and the cat bio section is later on), so she's rruha to both.
this relationship is one of the highest ones on the influence later. the maternal relationship (rru) is the only clear trump card. the paternal relationship (seya) can be more important, but it depends on the father.
(the littermate and denmate relationships are also very important, but in a different way.)
so, daisy is somewhere between a grandmother and a mother to pretty much every cat in thunderclan.
god bless you if you ever try to hurt her, because that's a lot of cats who would not let that happen.
queens
alright, so. the crux of it all.
what is the role of a (life-long) queen?
to nurture queens and kits.
it's that simple.
it's just a very important job.
i imagine they train each other, too. goldenflower offered advice and teachings to ferncloud, and ferncloud brought experience of clan life to daisy, and vice versa.
i hope someone takes up residence of the nursery with daisy, because otherwise that's a lot of leadership to just break up.
(as an aside, seriously, this is out of nowhere: i'm still thinking about moonflower's death. it has to be the saddest death in warriors, for me. i think because she's such a mother figure: soft and hazy and kind, and she dies. and she's...you know, you barely thought of her as a warrior. bluepaw still sees her only as mother and then she dies, dies in a raid that you know was questionable, and it hurts so much. moonflower might be the only warriors death i cried over. because it pulled at this raw, primal place of grief and loss.)
cat biology (naturally)
you know, i made this header, but i don't actually remember what i had to say?
huh.
well. there's a nonzero chance i remember later so...
yep remembered.
okay so y'all know. i have fucked over my google for you searching info about cat lactation.
someone better care about this.
okay so.
best i can tell, cats will lactate with kits around, pregnant or not. it helps to be around pregnant queens, but a cat like daisy should have no trouble providing milk for kits where necessary.
now, based on what i know about this (which is more than i want to talk about lest someone accuse me of...eh yeah), this won't be perfect for newborn kits, but it'll keep them alive.
the problem is it's not necessarily going to be instant.
what i'm saying is, the troubles in daisy's kin are valid, considering the nursery is empty.
the long night
okay so i've talked about the long night/"whatever is done only by me" enough and i don't feel like explaining it again.
but basically, it's daisy's job to stop that from happening.
daisy (again, using daisy as a filler for "queens like daisy") is supposed to check in on queens, make sure they're safe, support them.
she will drop kick anyone out of the nursery who threatens that.
and you don't want to mess with daisy because it won't be one drop kick so much as the entirety of the junior warriors.
this is the most important part of daisy's job. crisis de-escalation. tree has nothing on queens.
notes and touches
uh, let's see...oh fuck! going to edit something.
okay anyway.
i'm very sad they let daisy sleep alone in the nursery D:
cats are highly social she didn't deserve that

Hello Liss. This is Fairy Godmother. I am gathering information on behalf of King Ben to all Heroes, Villains, and their Descendants; asking them what they think of Auradon University. Could I please ask you for your opinion on our establishment, so that I may take notes on how we can better improve it? Thank you.
AN OPINION FOR: auradonurp.
Please keep in mind that all statements below the cut reflect only my subjective opinion.
THEME: I’m not sure how I feel about the color scheme here. It works for me in the graphics, but the theme looks like it clashes. I would maybe consider more grey and less blue, or change it up and make the background grey or blue and the accents red. This theme is pretty basic and not the most eye-catching to me personally, but I’ll talk about how the graphics play into that below.
GRAPHICS: The graphics are nice, and spice up the theme. I particularly like the custom-made admin GIFs. They make the posts look neater and tie the page together. I also like the header. I don’t really recognize anything that’s in it (I’ve never seen Descendants so maybe I just can’t pick it out), except for the people to the right, but it just looks nice. The colors are pretty and the red is perfectly scattered throughout the image. I’m not as big a fan of the sidebar graphic. It doesn’t hold as much substance to me, and rather than the red being sprinkled on it like in the header, it’s all in one very aggressively red spot. I don’t think it’s necessary for both of the graphics to have the roleplay name on them, and I think it makes more sense for the header to have it. I also don’t like the font used for the roleplay name. I think something a little bit neater would look better. Similarly, I definitely think the navigation graphic having the roleplay name is overkill, but I like the graphic itself. It also has the red peppered throughout and each part of it looks pretty. As for the skeleton graphics, they all look really nice on their own, with their little pops of color. Together, they seem a little bit disjointed, but it’s not bad since they’re all so different. I would reconsider the graphic for Mal, as the green text doesn’t match anything in the picture. The character pages look nice, some nicer than others based on how well the colors work together. I actually like that each character has their own color scheme. The graphics for the dorm rooms are nice too, but the text isn’t properly justified. The text should all either be centered or all the way to the left or right. The app count graphic is one of my favorites, simple but very pretty and interesting.
DESCRIPTION: I like that the description includes basic information about the type of RP and age requirements so that potential applicants can know right away if this is the right kind of RP for them. I would personally put the info that you have in the first chunk of your description at the end, and have your ‘actual’ description come first. The description seems to succinctly explain what the premise of the RP is and what makes your RP different than other Descendants RPs.
NAVIGATION: I like the navigation. I like that the partial navigation fits perfectly into your theme. It includes the most important links, and it seems like someone could apply without having to go to the full navigation at all. The full navigation includes a lot of good extra information, though. I will say that in the ‘after acceptance’ section the blockquote is broken and the line shows up in pieces instead of just being one smooth line. I don’t really know how to better describe it but you should be able to see what I mean. All of the links work and lead to the proper page!
PLOT IDEA: I’ll preface this by saying I’ve never seen Descendants, I don’t know what it’s about or anything about the characters. But this seems like an idea that probably hasn’t been done. I think RPs that are based around something Internet-related like this can be really interesting. The plot also gives writers the opportunity to delve into the character in a completely new way.
PLOT WRITING: First off, I feel like each word in “bringing it down” should be capitalized. The sentence about King Ben doesn’t make sense to me. It says he’s caught up with “this learning”, but I don’t know what “this learning” is. You also have the word ‘villain’ capitalized only some of the time–consistency is key and makes the page look neater. Otherwise, I think the writing is good. The second paragraph is sort of lost on me since I haven’t seen it and am not really into Disney, but it seems to explain the situation well. The summary brings up something about the king taking courses, which isn’t mentioned in the actual plot and doesn’t make sense to me, probably because I haven’t seen it. Beyond that it provides important information. The only other change I’d make is putting a period at the end of the very last sentence (the link).
GUIDELINES: First of all, these rules are very long. I would try to shorten them. People are likely to just skim them, and since the password is right at the bottom, they don’t have to read carefully to get it. On multiple occasions, you mention that muns under the age of 18 should not participate in NSFW plots or interactions. However, you also state that muns must be 18+, so that rule is irrelevant. I would take it out to shorten up the rules a little bit. I think it’s a little weird that you’ll allow face claim changes for certain characters but possibly not for others because a certain admin chose them. I don’t think players should be limited only to icons, as many people prefer small GIFs instead and can find more/better resources that way. I know you have a resource blog, but there are still many more options if you allow regular GIFs as well. You link to xkit in the rules with no explanation. Maybe say something like “Please cut your posts! If you don’t know how, download xkit and come to the main with any questions you may have!” I’m not sure your reasoning for not allowing sideblogs, but I would reconsider that rule, personally. It makes it much more difficult to remain active on multiple characters. Your shipping section is very long and could probably be shortened into just a few sentences. All you need to say is that no canon ships are canon in the RP, no canon ships are required to happen in the RP, and forcing ships is against the rules. The NSFW and triggers sections could probably be combined into one, as self-harm and depression are triggers. There are also two misspellings–”before hand” should be “beforehand”, and “insure” should be “ensure”.
APPLICATION: First of all, I love that you guys have a site you can use to apply??? I think that’s so cool. But it’s also cool that you allow people to just apply through Tumblr if they prefer that. I like that you let applicants put whatever they want as a writing sample, whether it be a bio or a para or whatnot. It doesn’t make sense to me to say “No reason why they’re (positive traits). It would make more sense to me to say “No reason why they’re (negative traits). It’s unusual to not allow a muse to be any older than their faceclaim. Most RPs implement a 5-year difference rule, which allows more flexibility for muns. The app goes from asking the mun questions (“what is your muse’s biggest fear?”) to asking the muse questions (”what high school did you graduate from?”) without any warning or separation of the sections. It doesn’t change anything, but makes it seem kind of inconsistent. When you ask for the major, the wording is kind of confusing. I would maybe say “What is your major? If you’ll be double majoring, please place both of your majors here.” Asking immediately about double majors makes it seem like you’re only asking about double majors. I think it’s kind of strange to have muns write out connections to characters they haven’t plotted with yet–it’s almost like godmodding? What happens if the person who takes up one of those characters doesn’t want that connection? There’s also one small typo where you said “ship” instead of “skip”.
CHARACTERS: I like the character pages a lot. They’re really cute and the different color schemes give each character a bit of, well, character. The connections section is helpful and the social media section gives a little personality. The theme of the character page itself is very basic, which is great because that means it doesn’t look way different from your main theme and clash. It also makes everything very neat. I just checked and it’s actually pretty mobile accessible, you just have to zoom in.
OTHER PAGES:
FAMILIES: The first thing I noticed was that both ‘heroes’ and ‘villains’ are spelled wrong on this page. I’m not sure why the page lists so many people that aren’t available characters, but I may just be missing why that’s important because I’ve never seen it.
APP COUNT: I normally wouldn’t even bother bringing up the app count page, however I think yours is really cute! I would avoid labelling the characters by gender here, though, since someone could apply for a character and change their gender to non-binary.
CLASSES: It doesn’t make sense to me that Algebra is available only to juniors and seniors, when a lot of people come into college as a freshman already starting at a higher level of math than that. There’s also a couple of classes under ‘general’ that should probably be under ‘magic’.
MAJORS AND MINORS: I think there should be a wider selection, or at least a note stating that muns can choose a major or minor that isn’t listed. There are two typos–no space between “Voodoo Magic” and “Or an emphasis” (this could also be made into one sentence if you wanted), and “there focus” instead of “their focus”.
BLOGROLL: You have two ways to follow everyone in your navigation, and both of them are inconvenient. You should use your /followed/by/ link instead so that muns can just go down the line and follow everyone instead of opening up each blog. I know you link to that in your checklist, but it should be in the navigation, too.
DORMS: This includes the most important basic information about what the rooms are like. I think it’s pretty unrealistic for a college dorm room to have two separate bathrooms, but who said a RP has to be realistic?
OVERALL: A couple little things that didn’t fit into any of the other sections–only some of your pages have titles, others don’t. It makes the pages look inconsistent. I personally think the pages look a lot better with titles than without, so I would add titles to all of the pages. I also see you’ve been tagging your posts with ‘appless RP’--this isn’t an appless RP and shouldn’t be in that tag. Anyway, moving on! I don’t know much about Descendants RPs, but this seems like an original idea, and a fun one to write about. The graphics overall look nice and consistent. I think the pages you have up include a lot of information about the RP and are easy to follow. I love that you have both resource and inspo blogs to help applicants and muns, and again, I adore the application site! The admins seem very active, which is key to a thriving RP. There are a few tweaks that could be made, but I think this is a pretty strong RP!

Block building without JavaScript: Testing ACF, Block Lab, and Lazy Blocks
Not everyone is able or willing to build blocks in JavaScript just yet, and sometimes you have to install three or four block collections until you find the blocks you would like.
There is a third way: plugins that create the blocks for you from a set of specific custom fields, with a template to control the frontend display of the blocks. The three most popular options for doing this include: Block Lab, ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) and Lazy Blocks.
My use case for this test is a small task I set out to accomplish with each of the plugins – to create a block for team members of a company that includes the following fields: first name, last name, headshot, bio, phone number, and email address and use the block on a page in a two-column display with two team members.
For each plugin I will demonstrate
how to create the Fieldgroup,
how to create the template for the frontend and
how to use the blocks to create a team page.
I used Local by Flywheel as my local development tool. The test site ran on WordPress 5.1.1, Gutenberg 5.4 and the Business Theme from WordPress.com
After reading this post you will be able to select the plugin that fits your needs.
Creating a Team Block with Block Lab
Members of the  XWP team built Block Lab and it is available as a free plugin with a commercial version. I used Block Lab first, installed the plugin and then started a new block.
Here is the video on how to set-up the fields.
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next step is setting up the block template
When I looked at the expected location, the template will be made part of the theme directory in a subfolder called /blocks/ That’s something a developer needs to remember, as there is some content lock-in when switching themes.
To create the template, I opened my code editor, created the file block-team-member.php, and added the HTML + and minimal PHP to reference the fields.
<h2> <?php block_field( 'first-name' );?> <?php block_field( 'last-name' );?> </h2> <p><img class="teamphoto" src="<?php block_field( 'picture' ); ?>" alt="<?php block_field( 'first-name' );?> <?php block_field( 'last-name' );?> " width="150" style="float:left;padding:4px;margin;2px;"/> <?php block_field( 'short-bio' ); ?></p> <p><em>You can reach <?php block_field( 'first-name' );?></em> <br/>via email <span><a href="mailto:<?php block_field( 'email-address' ); ?>"> <?php block_field( 'email-address' ); ?></a></span> or <br/> via phone: <span><?php block_field( 'extension' ); ?></span></p>
In the last step, I finished the configuration of this block with the Block Properties
I set the icon to a person,
selected the “Layout Elements” as Category and
added “team member, team” as keywords
All this is necessary for the Block inserter in the editor.
Let’s see how it works.
I added a new Page called Meet our Block Lab Team and added the team members, using the Block “Team Member”.
youtube
For now, I decided to have all the information filled within the block editor boundaries. During setup of the fieldgroup, I had also the choice to display form controls in the Block Options tab in the sidebar. For the moment, I have determined that’s it’s just personal preference. Once you click outside the block, the form disappears and the block is rendered similar to its frontend representation.
Tumblr media
Now that I have the block finalized, I can add more team members to the page. I decided, I’d like them in a column block with two columns.
Tumblr media
So far, so good. I was not thrilled that the location of the template points to the theme folder.
When I want to switch out the theme, I still would like to keep the block and the layout for the block with my site, so I would need to make sure to copy the blocks folder to the new theme’s directory. Another way is outlined in the  documentation for Blocklab on Github. It offers two filters to change the default location of the template:
“To use a different template inside your theme, use the block_lab_override_theme_template( $theme_template ) filter. To use a different template outside your theme (for example, in a plugin), use the block_lab_template_path( $template_path ) filter.”
This was fairly easy to set up, even if you are not a PHP developer, you can probably use the one PHP function block-field() and make sure to reference the right field names.
Block Lab, in essence, provides you with a method to create the fields and configure the block properties in one screen, and then you need to add the corresponding block template to a folder /blocks/ in your theme’s directory.  It’s fairly straight forward.
Creating a Team Block with ACF 5.8
ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) version 5.8 came out with a block builder (only available in the Pro version). For my test I used ACF 5.8 RC 1. The final release is available now.  Elliot Condon is the plugin’s author and the first version was released in 2011. The plugin has grown into a hugely popular developer tool for freelancers and agencies alike and has over 1 million installs.
Its success and versatility make the creation of the field group a more involved process compared to the other two plugins. The Pro version 5.8 contains the first release of its block building tool.
youtube
This is the admin view of the Field group “Team Member”.
Tumblr media
Now how do I make this into a block? The documentation is comprehensive enough.  Note: In this test I went in a slightly different order…
I started with the Field Group and I needed to get back to that admin screen after I registered the block (see below) .
I  used two files. First, I needed to register the block in the functions.php of my theme. For the template/block rendering code I used content-block-team-member.php also to be stored in the active theme’s folder.
You will see how those two fit together in a second. The rest of the work is done by the plugin in the back end.
So let’s write the Block Code in PHP
The first snippet is the block registration. I gave it a name, title, a description, point to the render template, give it a category, an icon and some keywords, under which the content producer can find the block in the Block Inserter. I scrolled all the way to the end of my theme’s functions.php and added this snippet:
function register_acf_blocks() { // register a team member block. acf_register_block(array( 'name' => 'acf-team-member', 'title' => __('ACF Team Member'), 'description' => __('A custom team member block created via ACF 5.8'), 'render_template' => 'content-block-team-member.php', 'category' => 'formatting', 'icon' => 'admin-comments', 'keywords' => array( 'team member', 'team' ), )); } // Check if function exists and hook into setup. if( function_exists('acf_register_block') ) { add_action('acf/init', 'register_acf_blocks'); }
This code is straight from the documentation and I just changed a few values.
In the next section I created the block rendering template. The file name needs to match the “render_template” attribute in the above text, which is “content-block-team-member.php”
I also just followed along ACF’s documentation and only changed a few values and updated the display code.
<pre class="wp-block-syntaxhighlighter-code"><?php // create id attribute for specific styling $id = 'team-member' . $block['id']; // create align class ("alignwide") from block setting ("wide") $align_class = $block['align'] ? 'align' . $block['align'] : ''; // Load values and asigning defaults for the block fields. $short_bio = get_field('short_bio') ?: 'the short bio goes here... '; $first_name = get_field('first_name') ?: 'First Name'; $last_name = get_field('last_name') ?: 'Last Name'; $image = get_field('picture'); $email_address = get_field('email_address'); $extension = get_field('extension'); ?> <div>" class="team-member "> <h2> </h2> <blockquote class="team-member-blockquote"> <img class="teamphoto">" alt="" alt=" " width="150" style="float:left;padding:4px;margin;2px;"/> <span class="team-member-short-bio"></span> <br /> <span class="team-membe-extension"></span><br /> <span class="team-membe-email-address"> </span> </blockquote> </div> </pre>
As I started with the Fieldgroup, I needed to go back and make sure that the group is associated with the block I just registered.  Below the Fieldgroup screen I created a rule for the Location: It needs to read: “Show this field group if the Block is equal to ACF Team Member.
Tumblr media
Now let’s see how this works in the Block editor when I add two members.
youtube
It was an interesting experience. You can use the form in the editor section to enter the data. Another option is to enter the data in the form fields available in the the sidebar and you see the block update in real time. You can toggle between the two methods but clicking on the Button “Switch to Edit” or “Switch to Preview” depending which method you are using right now.
Tumblr media
The block editor UI works well. It’s worth going through the more elaborate setup and code necessary.
Creating a Team Block with Lazy Blocks
The third plugin in this test is called “Lazy Blocks” by Nikita of nkdev.info, the same team that also published the GhostKit block collection.
It not only allows me to store information in post_content but I also get a choice to store it in the post_meta table.
Here is a video of using the interface to create the fields.
youtube
As this admin screen is focused on getting all the information to create the blocks, on the left I created my fields and in the sidebar.  I filled in the information needed to register a block with the editor.
Underneath,  I was able to add the HTML for frontend and backend. The syntax is even easier than Block Lab, and of course much easier than ACF’s  templating.
I didn’t need to add any code to my theme’s functions.php nor did I need to create additional files with my template code.
You can add it all right here, aided by syntax highlighting and merge tags rather than function calls.  The documentation shows multiple ways to write your template code. I am definitely a fan of Handlebars (semantic templating) as it is in this context much closer to other systems’ merge tags.
Tumblr media
I copy/pasted the same code into the “Editor HTML” tab, so I could see the frontend display below the form fields.
Let’s use it.
youtube
Tumblr media
This seems to work. It was little bit awkward that the form didn’t disappear when I unselect the block. It takes up a lot of real estate in the editor. Although, I wanted to have the team members in a two-column block, I did not succeed in dragging and dropping the two blocks into a Column Block. I mentioned this in my support topic and nK answered: “…hiding controls when the block is not selected is a good feature, that already added in ACF Blocks and will be added in Lazy Blocks soon.” Here you have it – all in due time.
Conclusion: Complex, Evolved, or Easy.
ACF 5.8  has a very robust block building feature, and every one who has been using the plugin to build sites will be very happy to be able and create dynamic blocks for their customers. It’s well thought through, and developers of all skill sets will get up and running quickly.
Someone, who is not well versed in PHP will have her fair share of trial and error to get it all going. It will get even more complicated when the requirements for the blocks get more involved and beyond this test’s use case. This is not a tool for WordPress beginners or DIY site implementers who don’t write a lot of code themselves.
For now, only the ACF 5.8 Pro version comes with the block builder feature. Condon is contemplating making it a stand alone plugin. (See what the Twitteratti think about the idea… )
Block Lab is in its early stages of development. It succeeds in abstracting most of the block architecture and reduces the amount of code that needs to be written. The documentation is very helpful. The template is stored in a separate file, and needs to be maintained with the rest of the theme files. If we at my company would use it for any of our projects, we would store the template file with one of our helper plugins, so our customers are able to switch themes without losing the content and display of the blocks built with Block Lab.
The Pro version boasts additional features, such as repeater fields, import/export of blocks, user object fields, map field and many more block features.
XWP is an agency working with enterprise clients on the WordPress.com VIP hosting and other corporations. Their team members are contributing to other big ideas in the WordPress space, including the Customizer,  AMP and Tide. I expect the plugin to stay around and grow with Gutenberg Phase 2 into a robust system for site implementers, agencies, and theme developers.
Lazy Blocks is a delight to set up and as mentioned, I am a fan of the Handelbars templating syntax. It’s easy to learn even for beginners, and with a little practice, a site owner would be able to create specific Gutenberg blocks for their site. The block handling in the editor although functioning, is a little clunky, as the display doesn’t switch between block select state and unselect state at the moment.
If there is a requirement of having additional fields for a page or a section of a post, Lazy Blocks is a great tool to prototype and get quickly from idea to proof of concept.
The only caveat: I was not able to find out who the people are behind nkdev.info and the name Nikita. The website only reveals that it is a young company but nothing more. If you use the plugin, make sure you have Plan B in place just in case the developers abandon the plugin before it takes off.
ACF 5.8 is quite complex; Block Lab is a very flexible and only semi-complex; and Lazy Blocks is adequately named and the easiest to use. None of them lets you get away without writing code, as each block needs some display output in HTML.
Let me know what you think about these three block generating plugins. Also, if you found another plugin that allows you to build blocks without getting into Javascript, I want to know about it! Please share your thoughts and discoveries in the comments!

Okay so I have to ask you basic tumblr/computer advice if you don't mind!! How in the h*ck do you link to something like your ask box or another tumblr account in your tumblr bio or in a text post? Like when some one says 'send me an ask' and you click on the word ask and it takes you to their ask box? I have no idea how to do this and it makes me feel extremely un-tech savvy lol! Thank you in advance for ur help :)
hey, anon! don’t worry about not getting it at first, tumblr does love to make things…let’s say, hard to find. @hollandstcm has also answered this, so you can refer to her answer too :)
let me know if you have any other questions  i’ve included 2 ways to do this under the cut:
standard text
okay so when you highlight a word/phrase, you’ll see a little list of options over it;
that…zoomed in a lot…anyways in this case, the one right over the word list (the one that loks like a slanted number 8 or an infinity sign) is the one you’re interested in.
so copy the link you want (for me it’s http://remusjohn.co.vu/ask, the link to my ask box), and click on that little infinity sign. you’ll see this:
Tumblr media
paste the link you want the word to take you to, and click done. the word should not be underlined, and when you click on it, you’ll be redirected in a separate tab.
this should be the result!
html text
this doesn’t work on asks, but it works in text, and it’s convenient in it’s own way, in that this can be done easily on mobile. so you’ve typed out your post and formatted the font and shit:
Tumblr media
cool! (’cept for the fact that i said “check out out” bc i’m terrible but whatever). so the infinity sign-highlight method thing works here too (just follow the above), but you can also click on the little gear thing in the top right corner.
Tumblr media
currently, you’re editing in the rich text. the second option from the bottom (text editor) will take you to a drop down menu - select the html option. this will allow you to ‘code’ your post.
Tumblr media
*gasp* looks weird, but this is what goes into making your post. (note: the just bolds the text). right, so the code for embedding a link in text is as follows:
insert link here, within the quotation marks”>insert text
obv you’ll want to put your link and desired text in their respective sections; when you’ve done that, the code should look something like this:
Tumblr media
and your text should look like:
Tumblr media
now, it’s underlined, and there’s a link embedded!
other things
here are some other popular html codes to use in things like this:
- bolds the text (in rich editor, control+b or command+b does this too)- italicizes the text (in rich editor, control+i or command+i does this too)- shrinks the size of the text (as opposed to this) (in rich editor, control/command+shift+hyphen does this too) (when doing it in html, nesting the function shrinks it even more; so, shrinks it further)-
adds that nice little grey line/indentation thing on the side of your text (when highlighting the text and looking at the menu, clicking the one on the far right does the same thing); when using html, nesting the function adds multiple lines-
adds a new paragraph- adds a new line
that’s more information than you asked for; sorry for that! let me know if you have any other questions

Tumblr media
below the cut you’ll find an easy tutorial for how to create a  MULTIMUSE BLOG  based on my own experience, from tags to pages! feel free to do whatever you’d like with this information, and i hope it helps! <3
the theme.
the key to a good theme for multimuse blogs is multiple pages - though i suppose this is more of a personal preference of mine. there’s going to be a lot of tagging involved, so it’d be slightly more convenient to find things such as starter calls, open starters, ask memes, wishlist prompts, etc. i’d suggest a them with 4-8 pages! i personally use one with 8.
some good resources for themes: theme-hunter ; rpthemehunter ; rpblogthemes
i also know a few more if you can’t find anything on these, just shoot me an ask!
the pages.
so, as i mentioned above, multiple pages can be very helpful. you, of course, want your rules page & mun page (though my mun page simply redirects to my mun tag), but, more importantly, you want to make a muse list page. mine is very simple - it gives the character’s name in a blockquote, then below that, in normal text, is their list of verses with a small title to describe it.
example:
aphrodite
aphrodite;; love and beauty in the sea (modern goddess) aphrodite;; fleeting love and untouchable beauty (modern human)
this helps when you have a lot of muses, but obviously, it isn’t enough to only list their verses. there’s more to your characters than that! you also don’t want to write everyone’s bios all in the same page - it’d be overcrowded and confusing. so, solution: make the name of each person into a link that leads to their bio page! i have mine set up where the muse list page is /muses, so to make a character page, i simply add a page that’s something like /muses/character-name!
bio example:
ABOUT.
[insert gif of faceclaim]
❝ quote that relates to/is said by the character ❞
name :  . nicknames :  . fc & alt fc :  . zodiac :  . birthday :  . age :  . sexuality :  . alignment :  . positives :  . negatives :  . fears :  .
backstory :
mini backstory
tags :  about/headcanons ; musings/isms ; visage/face ; music ; likes. ships :  ship 1 ; ship 2 ; ship 3.
there are a lot of different character sheets you can use, and feel free to edit this one to your heart’s desire! the tags & ships will be gone over in the next section!
so now you have your muse list and bios - now what? i usually have my next links in my sidebar set up as general tags, such as: -    ask meme -    wishlist -    possibly your mun tag -    starter calls -    open starters -    etc.
the tags.
easily the most complicated part of having a multimuse blog is keeping it organized. so many characters, so many posts, so many tags. tagging is a struggle. normally, with a single muse or double muse, you can have fancily formatted, individualized tags. that’s still possible here, but it will also take so much longer to set up and keep track of. this is why i prefer very simplistic tags. there are three main types of tags that i use on my multimuse - general tags, which are tags for things like ask memes, starter calls, wishlist, mun, and tags that you want to add to easily find things in broad categories; verse tags, which you use to tag verses (obviously), but that you also want to make in the same basic format so you can reuse it with ease and has the character’s name in it so they’re easy to find; and character tags, which are for things such as musings, likes, face, music, and headcanons, or just things specific to one character that you wanna use the same format for so that, again, it’s easy to reuse and find! here are some examples.
examples of tag formats for general tags:
-    &&. tag. -    [ tag. ] -    || tag. || -    { tag. }
examples of tag formats for verse tags:
-    name;; verse title -    name:: verse title -    [name] verse title -    {name} verse title -    name // verse title
examples of tag formats for character tags:
-    musings ;; character -    musings :: character -    musings [ character ] -    musings { character } -    musings // character
feel free to edit these as you wish, but i figured they’d make good templates for you to build off of! also for character tags, just replace ‘musings’ with whatever type of post it is (music, headcanons, likes, face, etc).
misc stuff.
since you have more than one muse on your blog, you want a general description, dash icon, header, and mobile color them that can fit all of your characters, or is usually just aesthetically pleasing. if you want, you can always send me a request for a dash icon, mobile theme, and header pack - just shoot me a message with a general idea of what you’d like!
if there’s anything i’m leaving out, please message me and let me know~

Yoga goods on Society 6
I’ve been wanting to put my Gnomaste illustrations on yoga mats and yoga apparel for the longest of times, years in fact, so I’m very excited that Society 6 let me have a chance to do it.
