LEONA PODMORE
Occupation: Locomotive Operator Age: 36 Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her Blood status: Halfblood Allegiance: Order Faceclaim: Natasha Lyonne
It was different ten years ago when the dark lord first came to power, back then everyone your age wanted to do something to stop the fight by either sitting in the Ministry lobby and protesting their choices or looking for ways to get involved personally. The government always moved too slow for you and you felt so proud when Dumbledore asked you to join, but that’s been a long time ago and now you’re tired, you didn’t want to spend your entire life fighting, but there’s no way out except by going in the ground.
HISTORY:
Podmores had been “blood traitors” for a long time before Leona was born. A second generation halfblood, Leona grew up with little to no interaction with the muggle world, but everything she heard sounded amazing, and fragile, like porcelain figures on a glass showcase. Their art was different, their transportation, too. Even their fairytales seemed to hold some sort of innocense that theirs never had. Curious of everything and anything Muggle, Leona spent a good ammount of her time on her grandmother’s lap, listening to stories of her childhood, before she even knew she was a witch.
Her childhood was an easy, happy period. Growing up in the Podmore farm, one of Scotland’s most important suppliers of plant-based potion ingredients, there was always room to run arround, her cousins always arround to play with her and Silas. It was like living in an oatmeal commercial, Leona would say when asked to describe it later on.
When it became time to go to school, no one doubted she would get into Gryffindor, she was named after the house’s symbol after all. The one flaw Leona had, if you asked her, was that she was too predictable. She would become exactly who you’d expect her to be. Maybe a little more tomboyish than the Podmore’s would’ve liked, but just as heroic as they had always wanted, excelling in the practical subjects and needing extra help in theorical ones. But Leona became the perfect embodiment of the Podmore name without ever thinking about it, and that meant that, when the war came, she never kept her mouth shut about what she thought was right. And neither did the rest of the Podmore clan, obviously. Writing in to the Prophet with an essay on the rights of Muggles, Leona’s uncle Victor, the last pureblood with the Podmore name publicized their political views, and actively tried to shame other families that didn’t do the same.
She had recently become an full auror, and while the department was working on the war, its actions seemed to tame at the time. Like they didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation. Leona was glad someone in her family cared the right ammount. She cut out the essay and carried it in her pocket for days. But such actions could not go unpunished in the face of the Death Eater movement, and as punishment for the deed, the Podmore farm was arsoned, and Victor Podmore was found dead with his eldest daughter and wife a week later, becoming the first pureblood murder accredited to The Dark Lord.
The Podmore family took a hit after that.
Leona spent almost six months helping her family in their rebuilding efforts, cleaning the fields during the day and spending the night teaching herself the most dueling spells she could. Wandless magic had always come naturally to her, but this newfound need for vindication created a new bond between her and her wand she hadn’t felt before. After much hard work, the Podmores urged her to leave the farm, she had never planned to become a farmer, and they felt terrible she had had to postpone her plans for them. Leona had the fighty spirit of an Auror, they’d say when they knew she was eavesdropping. And she thought so, too.
It probably took her longer to fill out the paperwork to rejoin the Auror department than it took her to get kicked out. The Ministry was part of the problem, they couldn’t stand the people who actually wanted to get shit done, they didn’t respect people that actually got their hands dirty. Many were the drunken nights she spent moping to herself, and anyone who sat with her at the bar. She would get howlers about it from her family, urging her to not give up, worried she would be stuck in a cycle of bitterness forever. Telling her hitwizard was still an option, that bartending was not what she’d trained so hard for. And she knew it, of course, but what good had institutions ever done to her. What justice had the auror department given the Podmore family?
Leona decided that her family was half right, she would keep fighting, but she wouldn’t do it the way she always had. She relocated to Hogsmeade, got a new job, and started paying attention to any signs of large pureblood gatherings. To the rest of the world, Leona Podmore had given up and become a nobody. But if you payed atention, you’d notice there was a spark of crazy in her eyes that had just come back. The spark that could motivate her to do just about anything to put an end to this madness. It’s a spark Albus Dumbledore sees, and he makes an offer with the knowledge that Leona Podmore wouldn’t ever refuse.
She sees the Order grow, and she becomes close to every member she can. Every new face fills her with hope, that this conflict is closer to ending. They teach eachother spells, they become best friends during stake outs, they cry on eachother’s shoulders.
Two years go by, and the Order has the same ammount of people that they did when Leona joined. Numbers constantly fluctuate, and no matter what they try, they always end up back to the begining. Order Members arrested, fleeing, or worse, and Death Eaters living their fancy double lives in their opulent manors.
Five years go by, and they’re even less. Their chances of winning are even lower. She’s twenty nine and has more scars than she can count. And she’s hit with the realization that she doesn’t want to fight anymore. She starts preparing her things, she starts planning to run off. Engine workers get paid better in Amsterdam, she’ll leave, find a wife. Just this mission, and then she’s done. But then, that one goes well enough. The new recruits really are something, she thinks, and she’s sucked in an endless cycle of hoping and losing again. Postponing things for when she isn’t as needed, but that moment will never come, will it?
As she grows increasingly frustrated, Leona becomes more violent. It’s not even a conscious decision, it’s just that for the new kids to make it out sometimes it’s easier to curse them dead. Sometimes it’s better to use a spell so dark you promised yourself you’d try to forget about it. It’s a vice, because she has to admit she enjoys it a little. She enjoys the humiliation that they must feel, going back to work with a strange limp. She enjoys the headlines revealing who hides behind the mask. She even enjoys the looks Dumbledore throws her, the looks of regret. She wasn’t supposed to become this, Leona knows. But the sooner this war is over, the sooner she’ll have space to heal, to unpause her life. To become who she was supposed to become.

CHAPTER 03: TASTE OF HOPE
Litha has arrived and with it comes the heat of summer and short nights with swiftly approaching sunlight promises to fight away the darkness. After such gruesome and tragic attacks in the first half of the year, there’s a silent, but unanimous choice among the people of the wizarding world to rejoice in this light while it lasts.
Over what seems to be the course of a single night, a fair has been assembled in the same fields that would usually hold official quidditch league matches, flyers for the event tucked into copies of the Daily Prophet, the Quibbler, and Witch Weekly alike. It’s announced on the Wizarding Wireless Network and posters are plastered across boarded up shop windows, usually without people knowing how they got there.
At the funfair, the grass is lush and the air is warm, the music that permeates the grounds overlaid with shrill sounds of pleasure instead of screams of fear. There’s a risk in having so many people gather in one place, there’s always a risk, but everything looks distance from the top of a ferris wheel, even the dangers of war.
The peace won’t last forever, just like the summer will slip away, but that is what fuels people into flocking from their homes to take part in the event. For a week, they will be able to rejoice in knowing that the days are long and the nights are short, but they still know the darkness will return.
This fair/carnival will run for the rest of the month and while you’re free to interact with whomever you please (and encouraged to respond to any open starters you see), you will also be assigned a partner for the end of this chapter.
Please find your muse and your partner on the list below and reach out to start plotting! And for any open starters you choose to create that are related to this chapter, please tag them as smokechapter:03.

PATRICK FINNEGAN
Occupation: Bartender and new owner of The Three Broomsticks Age: 30 Gender: Male Blood Status: Muggleborn Allegiance: Neutral Faceclaim: Dylan o’Brien
How dare she? How dare she not only break your heart, but take your kid when she did it? How dare she bring a new sort of magic into your life and then not only leave, but make you track her down into a warzone in order to see your son? It’s a wonder the two of you lasted as long as you did, but now you don’t even care about the rumors she’s seeing another man, you only care about breaking down those fancy doors she’s closed on you.
HISTORY:
No one expected anything to come from Patrick Finnegan's life and why should they? He was just another Irish boy that didn't come from anything special, his family wasn't known for anything in particular and even if it was, Patrick had two brothers that he would have needed to compete against in order to stand out. From a young age, this meant that Patrick had low expectations of himself, of what the world would give him without a fight, and how could he ever think anything else when the strain of living was written into his father's bones?
A railway worker, Patrick's father was a man with stooped shoulders and grimy hands that seemed to come back with stories about deaths on the job at least every week. If you listened to him talk, every bit of railway track was laid on the bones of the Irish and maybe it wasn't the sort of life that he wanted for his sons, but it was the only sort that Patrick expected.
Until the first time he used magic.
His mother swore he'd been taken by the fae, that something had replaced her son or that some other supernatural creature was working its magic when the incidents kept happening, but all the answers came when he turned eleven and a letter showed up clutched in an owl’s beak.
Patrick Finnegan, son of two ordinary people that worked hard for their livelihood and one out of three sons, had magic.
Without even trying, Patrick found that he stood out amongst his family and if his brothers ever wondered ‘why is he the one with magic and not me?’ Maybe there were numbers about that somewhere, some fancy person with a good pedigree that knew how rare it was that he was the only one with magic, or what the odds were that he had magic at all, but Patrick never bothered to find out and none of his family seemed to care.
While his mother once worried about her little boy being stolen away, that changed with the letter and she resorted to pushing her fingers through his hair as Patrick tried to duck away, fondly saying that maybe his father was a little bit magical, maybe that’s why he had such a green thumb, why she was so charmed by him.
The love that coated the strain in those words always broke Patrick’s heart.
Hogwarts was an escape from a lot of things - from his family, from the muggle world, from all the expectations his old life put on him, but there were some things that remained the same. He was special in terms of his brothers, but not in terms of the magical community, his parentage garnering him the title of mudblood and Patrick wasn’t even surprised that even in the magical community, his family was enough to put some sort of black mark against him, that he was less valued than some others.
Still, there were certain facts that their bigotry and prejudice didn’t erase, like the fact he had access to an entirely different world than his family and unlike his father, he never, ever had to be a railway worker.
After he went back home to Ireland, he mostly focused on trying to help his family, his ability to use magic making it so much easier, so much faster, to help do things like repair their roof and help ready his mother’s little garden, and if sometimes he slipped potions into his dad’s tea to help with the pain, well, you couldn’t blame him, could you?
Patrick didn’t consider it any sort of secret that he was close with his family and losing part of it wrecked him more than he could imagine. Three brothers became two and Patrick grit his teeth at the unfairness of it all. Maybe that’s why, when given the chance, he was so quick to let his family grow again.
Hilda Dagna was something out of a fairytale. If Patrick’s mother was ever going to be right about Patrick fooling around with someone fae in the sense that she understood it, then it would have been with Hilda. She was beautiful and smart and far too good for him, but she wanted him anyway and Patrick didn’t even hesitate in handing over his heart to her, this magical woman from another world.
His family didn’t care that she was a witch, but they did wonder why Patrick couldn’t find a good Irish girl and Patrick could tell that they didn’t understand what he was doing with a rich girl, but Patrick ignored their concerns. Hilda had chosen him despite knowing he wasn’t the sort of man her family would approve of, so of course he would choose her in return and support her.
Which wasn’t to say they didn’t have their fights, they could tear into each other with words, but they could also stitch each other up with kisses and it was always worth it to Patrick and when he found out Hilda was pregnant, that was a gift. One child would turn into more and they would make up after every fight they had and their children would never feel limited to one future, those were things that Patrick was certain of even if he never spent much time picturing what the future would bring.
Of course, he paid a price for trying to predict the future. In what felt like the course of one day to the next, Patrick went from being someone’s husband and someone’s father to being on his own.
Not because his family was taken from him, there wasn’t any terrible accident on a railway to kill them, there was some attack because of the war, no, but because Hilda ran away from him. After so much sneaking around, after choosing him by marrying him and then having a baby with him, Hilda cut herself out of his life and left Patrick with a ripped up heart, the places where she and Seamus resided left empty and raw.
Anger was a familiar friend to Patrick and it ran through his blood at what he saw as undeniable betrayal. There weren’t any kisses to sooth him, there wasn’t the scent of perfume to settle him, there was only the quiet and the emptiness, the taste of whiskey on his tongue, and it really shouldn’t have been any wonder that Patrick chose not to take defeat lying down.
Defeat because that was how he felt. Beaten by his own foolhardy expectations, a loser of his future and bereft of his other half. He was cut on the pieces of his broken marriage, but he would not, could not, lose his son. If Hilda wanted to run away, fine, she was an adult and that was her right to try pretending like she’d never chosen him over her last name, but Patrick would be damned before he left Hilda do the same thing for their child.
He sold everything. The cottage they lived in, the vase he bought her the first time he brought home flowers, even his wedding ring was passed out to help collect as much money as Patrick could be after all, Hilda had made it clear their marriage didn’t mean anything to her, so he might as well get as much out of the ruins she’d left as he could.
It wasn’t that chasing after her would cost that much, but it was after he arrived in England that Patrick worried about. It would cost money to stay there while he fought her and it would take even more money to try getting hold of his son because Patrick didn’t have any doubt that Hilda would use the funds at her disposal to keep him and bay and that meant he would need to be ready for that, he wasn’t going to be caught off-guard and locked out of his son’s life just because her background was wealthy.
Patrick was certain he would never be a railway worker, but he would if that’s what it took. He would work on the tracks of the Hogwarts Express even if he resented it, that was how badly he wanted his son back. It didn’t come to that, instead he found a home in the struggling pub known as the Three Broomsticks thanks to the business suffering after the owner’s murder a year later, but that one stroke of lucky wasn’t much comfort.
Sure, he had a job and a place to sleep above the pub, but he still didn’t have his son and he didn’t think he’d ever have his wife back. Patrick should have known from childhood that some things were too good for him, but he knew beyond doubt that he wasn’t too good for anything if it meant having Seamus back.

Everyone is being divided into groups these days and it makes them so transparent, easy to predict because everyone follows a set of guidelines determined by the type of person they are and they think everyone else does, too. You know what people see when they look at you, someone that’s made up of brawn instead of brain and everyone underestimates you because they’ve assigned your role, they never realize how smart you are or how much attention you’re paying to things they don’t know you can see. Just because you’re not fighting doesn’t mean you’re not dangerous because knowledge is power and you’re not going to be caught unaware.

EDITH CLEARWATER
Occupation: Dervish and Banges employee Age: 18 Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her Blood status: Halfblood Allegiance: Order Faceclaim: Virginia Gardner
It’s war and no one is taking it seriously enough, they’re still having weddings while people die and dressing up for parties while others plan their attack. They’re careless fools and it will be a miracle if they survive the war, but you plan on making it through. You still have something to live for and you’re more interested in playing it safe instead of acting like you need to make your last minutes count.
HISTORY:
Edith, or Eddie, as her family and friends lovingly referred to her as, was born along with her sister Miriam on August 20th, 1961. After their parents’ struggle with conception, being blessed with two beautiful daughters seemed like a miracle. Being born first, Edith occasionally used that as a one up against her sister when they were growing up, mainly to tease her as she never meant harm by it. Sometimes if she was angry with her sister, she would play the “older card”, though it didn’t always work, as they were not even older by much. By no means did she ever attempt to parent her sister, but they often looked out for one another as would be expected by siblings. Edith could easily be described as one big ball of energy, never seeming to have an off switch. While it was a bit exhausting for her parents at the beginning, since they had two young infants to look after, she luckily toned down a lot when she hit the age of three, though never completely abandoning her energetic self. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, Edith was always looking for something to peek her interest next. She was curious about the world from day one, and even now, is always asking questions. No answer ever seems permanent to her, as the word is always changing, and therefore she continues to question things.
If you are nice to her, she will be sweeter than maple syrup to you in return, and her loyalty will likely never need to be questioned. Trust is something that Edith cannot live without, though she strongly believes that it has to be earned. Since her father was a muggle but her mother a witch, they had settled on living on the outskirts of a small muggle town, so that they were immersed in both cultures from a young age. When she was younger, she had befriended a boy who lived a few houses down. Feeling as though they both instantly understood each other, they were quick to become friends. The boy was a pureblood, very proud of his abilities to do magic, and thoroughly enjoyed talking about his family’s success. When he found out that Edith was half-blood, his opinion of her changed drastically, and he told her that he could not be friends with someone who associated with muggles, half-blood or muggleborn. Naturally, Edith couldn’t understand why this was, and was distraught over the news. For this reason, Edith sometimes finds it difficult to fully trust the intentions of others, and is often more guarded when talking to strangers. While she has never let that experience truly affect her ability to be kind to others, she does not allow herself to be easily connected to new people until she feels comfortable.
Though her friendship with the pureblood boy was short lived, it allowed Edith to make new friends who understood her for where she came from, which was how she became friendly with Casper Shunpike. Despite being in different houses during their years at Hogwarts, Edith got to know Casper through classes that they had, and from chance meetings in the halls together. Their bond was spontaneous and unexpected, though they seemed to have clicked from the moment they started talking, and it became clear that they understood each other much more than Edith had ever understood anyone aside from her family. Having graduated from Hogwarts, Edith still considers herself close to Casper, and he is one of the people she believes that she could tell anything to, without judgement. Full disclosure is something she has struggled with in the past, though if anyone would ever be able to get her to that point, it would likely be him.
Despite her hopes that the war would end before her graduation, Edith knew that was unrealistic, and often worries now that she may be in more danger than ever before. Her choice to join the order was both strategic and safe, as she would have people alongside her who wanted the same things she did, backing her up. She would be able to do her part, and play a role in protecting what was important to her, and that was all she had ever wanted. Though she still does not understand her sister’s choice to do the opposite, Edith tries not to take it personally, and instead focus on her goals for a better future.

JUNIPER DUNBAR
Occupation: Shopgirl; Concordia & Plunkett Musical Instruments Age: 29 Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her Blood status: Muggleborn Allegiance: Order Faceclaim: Ana de Armas
You’ve never taken anything seriously. Not the schemes you led your brother on– logic was his department, after all. Not your grades in school– who wants to spend time on books when there’s roofs to climb? You’ve got great stories, but all your great stories got in the way of getting the qualifications you need. The Order is your hope to get something in your life back on track, but why won’t Jasper take this leap with you?
HISTORY:
Juniper Dunbar has always loved life just a sight more than many of her peers.
Born to a young muggle couple who managed a resort in Bangor, Northern Ireland, Juniper’s childhood was more multicultural than that of her classmates. Her early years were spent in nursery and primary school and Juniper’s holidays were spent running along the coast and climbing boulders that jutted out into the sea. While her parents loved her, they were little more than children themselves when she was born and Juniper was raised to look after herself, which fostered an independence that continues to define her. Juniper was not a child who ran to her mum when she scraped a knee; she did not trudge along behind her father, desperate for approval. She was always content to march to the beat of her own drum, to move where the wind took her.
Juniper wanted to learn by doing, wanted to see by exploring, wanted to be entertained by the world around her instead of by the television box set up in the resort’s kitchen. She refused to be pigeonholed into a certain role and was known for doing the opposite of what others expected.
By the time Juniper was eight, she’d been through four schools, her lack of scholarly ambition having become a problem that her parents finally needed to address. She was homeschooled after that, her social interactions coming from her brother and the weekly footie league that she’d begged her parents to enroll her in. Her cello, and her brother, became her refuge. It was a low point in her life, as Juniper relied on companionship, and that period is one she does not like to discuss.
Juniper was ten when she realized just how different she was. She’d gone climbing down by the sea and had fallen onto the rocks. When she’d pulled herself out of the salty water, there had been a bloody gash on her leg and the sight of the red in the water had been the first time one of her own adventures had frightened her. And then, it didn’t. She had watched, transfixed, as the gash knit itself back up. Her entire world changed that day.
Hogwarts was unexpected, but also exactly what Juniper needed. She’d been sorted into Gryffindor quickly and the acceptance from her housemates gave her confidence - for everything but her actual schoolwork. Adventures, after all, were more exciting than transfiguration, and she had as many of them as time allowed. Studying was rare and it was only due to the diligence of her friends - and her own love of playing beater on the Quidditch team - that Juniper was able to graduate with a handful of NEWTs.
After graduation, she returned home and worked at her parents’ resort before deciding she wanted to try her hand at music. What she lacked in discipline, she tried to make up in talent, but it was clear rather early on that unless she seriously changed her personality, Juniper would never be a musical success. She spent a couple of years traveling around the continent, working here and there to pay for travel money, before returning to Britain and settling in London. She currently works at Concordia & Plunkett Musical Instruments as a shopgirl, living in a flat above the shop at a discounted rate, and occasionally will pick up a shift of two at her parents’ resort for extra cash.
While Juniper is usually quite gregarious, she has a sarcastic streak that comes out either in debate or when she’s forced into a confrontation she’s unwilling to have. She can be considered mercurial and has never been able to sustain a romantic relationship for very long, often feeling stifled after a period of time with the same person. This has made things difficult for her, as she’s begun to see some friends and classmates settling down, unable to have the same type of adventures and drunken nights that they’d had beforehand. She’s becoming a proper adult, though the transition is more difficult than she’d expected.
Juniper does not want to be alone and when she looks at Jasper, who seemingly has everything put together, she wonders why she is not so inclined. There had been a time during childhood when Juniper had been disappointed in her younger brother, for she’d wanted to show him the wonders of the world, had wanted to go on adventures with him, but while he’d followed her along, she’d always thought he’d preferred his logic and his books. But then Jasper had received his Hogwarts letter and the knowledge that she was not the only magical being in her family had bonded them in a way little else could. He is her best friend and her motivation for improving herself, even if he hasn’t taken the plunge and joined the Order of the Phoenix.
Joining the Order of the Phoenix had been easy, but it had also been a defining moment for Juniper. It marked the planting of roots, the commitment to staying in Britain until the war was over. Juniper also hopes that the Order will help get her life back on track, that it will help her transition more fully into adulthood. And while she’s not afraid to die, she’s hoping she won’t have to.

ASHER WESTENBERG
Occupation: President of Westenberg Enterprises; parent corporation of Nimbus & Silver Arrow brooms. Age: 34 Gender: Male Pronouns: He/Him Blood status: Pureblood Allegiance: Neutral Faceclaim: Blair Redford
There is more than one way to be brave, more than one way to fight. The Westenbergs are an ancient family, pure enough to satisfy the Dark Lord’s ranks. But they have always stood by what is right and just, and you are proud to carry on their legacy. A part of you wants to fight, wants to be out there with wand in hand. But you have too many relying on you. You inherited your place in the family at a young age, and you have too many workers and loved ones counting on you to be there. So you do the best you can. You give money and resources and safe houses to the people you trust to use them wisely. For now this is the only way you can think of to fight. You just hope that it is enough.
HISTORY:
Asher Westenberg had grown up in privilege, born the heir to a broommaking fortune that his grandfather had started when he was a boy. He rarely wanted for anything and his early years were spent flitting around Britain, tutors in tow so that he would be prepared for Hogwarts when the time came. His parents were distant, yet present and while they loved him, they left the majority of his upbringing to his grandfather. During the school year, he was in the classroom each day, learning both business and magical theory by hand-picked tutors.
Asher’s summers were spent with other pureblooded children his age and in his spare time, his grandfather taught him how to fly. He was on his first broom by the age of 4 and when he hit 10, Asher was able to outrace his elder cousins. His aunts and uncles became like parents to him during these times, as his father lived off of the family wealth and his mother held parties and attended others.
But though Asher’s childhood had been marked by wealth, his grandfather had done his best to instill a taste of responsibility into him, a sense of duty and the knowledge that not all wizards lived the life he had. His pureblood heritage was nothing to brag about, but it was nothing to be squandered either.
Hogwarts was both a respite and a conundrum, for while Asher had been taught to respect all types of magic, he was also expected to give into the pureblood rhetoric that his peers espoused. A Ravenclaw, Asher used logic in all things and while he was respected, he was far from popular, having only a handful of close friends at graduation.
It had always been expected that Asher would eventually take over the family company, but he had never expected it to be so soon. After several years of working for his grandfather, the company was handed off to him to develop for the future and though Asher felt unprepared for it, he thrived in the challenge that was presented.
By the time Asher had gone to Hogwarts, Westenberg Enterprises manufactured just one type of broom - the Silver Arrow. After graduation, the Nimbus line was created, though it did not have a set target market. When he took over the helm at the age of 25, Asher dedicated his business sense into a faster, recreational broom that could be utilized by students and those in amateur leagues. The newest Nimbus line has just recently been released and it is Asher’s hope to eventually create a broom that is fast enough to be used by the British National Quidditch Team.
Though he could recite perfect magical theory while half asleep and under the influence, Asher has never been great at the practical aspect magic. He was adept enough to pass his OWLs and scrape up a handful of NEWTs, but he would never be a duelist. Where he really excelled was with his head for business and the growth of Westenberg Enterprises has made that incredibly clear over the past several years.
A pureblood, Asher can recite his family tree back twelve generations unaided. But while so many purebloods relish in their magical status, Asher has always worked to find commonality with those different from him. He does not completely eschew his pureblood heritage, but he does not use it as a ladder from which to step over others. It is because of this that he began to help the Order of the Phoenix financially, for he could not abide Lord Voldemort and his current political aims.
The sense of duty instilled in him, however, keeps him from joining the Order, for while Asher believes in the Order’s cause, he also realizes he has responsibility to those who work for him, to his family members who financially depend on the company for survival. Instead, he has provided several safehouses, as well as money for when the Order needs it.

Everyone is being divided into groups these days and it makes them so transparent, easy to predict because everyone follows a set of guidelines determined by the type of person they are and they think everyone else does, too. You know what people see when they look at you, someone that's made up of brawn instead of brain and everyone underestimates you because they've assigned your role, they never realize how smart you are or how much attention you're paying to things they don't know you can see.

They wanted to make you into a victim, they built you up only to rip you down when you stopped being what they wanted, but they left before making sure you were broken. You picked up your pieces in private and reinvented yourself, crafting a new image to grow into that was built on a foundation of revenge. They wanted to throw you away, but you're not so easily dismissed and they're going to learn what happens when you take advantage of trusting hearts.

Patience. That's what they told you every time you made a mistake, urging you to become perfect. Patience, you were waiting that day they attacked Diagon Alley, you heard the screams and smelled the smoke first-hand, you watched joy turn into terror on the face of your family. Patience, you finally learned it when you were stuck in St. Mungos and it's a trait that you've perfected. Now you're the teacher and someone out there has made a deadly mistake in crossing you.
