Hey I’m new here! Still don’t really know how tumblr works but wanted to make a blog to link to my AO3 which is currently just entirely consumed by my Imodna brain rot. Laura Bailey we owe you everything.

Here’s a little snippet of my latest writing, I’m working on a follow up while we wait for the next episode!

“I was never expecting… gods, Laudna, when I’d thought about what I wanted to say to you when we were apart, I’d never dreamed you’d kiss me back like that.” She looked down again, lips pursed, unable to meet Laudna’s stare - it was too earnest, too empathetic, and it unlocked parts of Imogen she herself was afraid of. Even now, she couldn’t dare to let herself believe that Laudna really, truly felt the same way.

She felt as if she’d made the first steps wading into a deep, cool ocean - calm and soothing and oh, so very vast and unfathomable. And the silky feeling of the water on her skin was addictive, equal parts purifying and exhilarating. She felt the pull of it, drawing her in deeper and beckoning her into its depths. But she still teetered on a precipice, terrified of sinking beneath the waves entirely, in case they pulled her under into their swell and drowned her, or worse: churned her up and spat her out, rejected and alone, back onto the shore.

Nothing annoys me more than people agreeing with me in the wrong way, and that’s why all the “Vex was done wrong by tlovm” people piss me off so much lol. All the stuff I dislike about her story were things that happened in the stream and I would have preferred if they changed, not stuff they mess up in the adaptation.

Her death being entirely about Vax and Percy annoyed me in the stream, so I was annoyed about it in the show. I have no problem saying I don’t like what Laura Bailey did with Vex in places cause I thought it was boring or lame. That’s so much less of an offensive view about her than just assuming she has no agency in how she portrayed her own character.

why are you telling me, a person who likes Vex's story on both the stream and TLOVM, this.

Also like...I am taking issue with the people who are like "I LOVE WOMEN HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE WOMEN OF THE CAST EVER" when they actually mean "if you don't act like Marisha Ray is the incarnation of the triple goddess and flowers spring from the earth where she walks I will send you hate (no but really I love women), Laura Bailey should make her characters more palatable and fitting my specific idea of Correct Female Characters, I ignore most of Vex's relationships, hope Jester almost dies so that she realizes she's a wlw what's a bike sexual, and think Imogen doesn't appreciate Laudna enough but Laura Bailey is great (I love women btw), wait there's someone named Aisling Jackson on this show? wild (I love women)" but with that said you're uh, not doing a great job of beating the also very real misogyny allegations towards the women of the cast that were particularly violent during Campaign 1. Like, both sides suck here, you're just on the other side of the pendulum swing than the one I was specifically addressing . Also you're on anon so you are not, in fact, indicating that you have no problem saying this.

It's fine if you don't like Vex. It's fine if you don't like her story in the original or her story in the adaptation. I do, I've said multiple times why I do, and I don't care what you think. If you have questions, great. If you want validation go pay for a life coach or something, but I'm going to turn off anon until some of you realize that you can have opinions without passing them through my inbox.

Well, think about it for a moment.

Laudna had just lost Imogen. She lost the most important person in the world to her... and Ashton had already seen just how devastated Laudna was when Imogen wasn't talking to her. So when Laudna is just smiling and nodding and not talking... he realized that shit had gotten really bad. Laudna was barely hanging on.

I mean, I saw a previous comment where someone snarked about how torn up Imogen was and here's Laudna flirting with some dwarven hussy and how dare Laudna do that when Imogen is hurting and in fact... Laudna is trying desperately not to howl in agony. Half of her soul is gone, torn away, and she doesn't know if Imogen is dead, alive, transformed into some horrid space-whale monstrosity, or what.

Part of this might be inspired by Laura Bailey's depiction of Imogen and how much Imogen desperately called out over and over again for Laudna and was freaking out so badly... and so some nine weeks later it's her turn and Laudna tries to shove that fear and anxiety and intense sorrow away, to compartmentalize it... and after the monsters are dealt with and she is on watch and there's Ashton poking away and... she can't speak. If she speaks... the tears are going to escape.

If it had been Orym, he'd have hugged her and gotten her crying and comforted her that way. Ashton... well, Ashton had been there already, he'd held her while she cried. And I think he took her words to heart. If Laudna starts crying, she might not stop. So he lets her take control of her emotions while telling her "we brought you back, if we have to we'll bring her back as well."

And that's what Laudna needed to hear. Because she'd died. And they brought her back. So of course they'll bring Imogen back. No matter what it takes. No matter what the cost.

What's also interesting is that Team B assumes they lost. They don't care about saving the world anymore. All they want is to save their friends... to get them back. Fuck the world. Their friends are all that matters. Whether they'll regain a little of their heart upon eventually, hopefully being reunited with Team A, we'll see. It may very well be that Team A ends up convincing their friends that they have to fight. The price of not fighting is not a price worth paying.

This is such a stunning contrast between the last Ashton and Laudna talks.

Laudna is on the brink of tears, trying not to talk or she'll cry, so terrified Imogen is dead and the others might be too... and Ashton doesn't push. They don't get her to get angry, they don't prompt her to dig into rage and loneliness and even fear.

Ashton just... comforts her. Rough edges river-smoothed. Despite the stupidly long day, and probably being in a fuckton of pain from all the activity and rages. And stubbornly, but gently, insists they'll find their friends. They'll go to space if they have to. They'll bring them back from the dead too. No one gets left behind.

"There is no failure in this. We are going to figure it out because it's what matters."
