Divorceweek 👀

GOTCHA! GOTCHA! BET YOU THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO BE ABOUT TAKAEISHI DIVORCE! FUCKING GOTCHA!

It's actually about Eri and Kogoro divorcing in my Shinran genderbend universe! I canNOT believe they're still not divorced in canon it drives me insane. I decided that they actually divorced when Ran and Shinichi were in middle school and now Shinichi has to help Ran through the transition!!!

I don't actually have anything for this particular project, but I DO have stuff from the ShinRan genderbend universe.

I'm really attached to these designs. I really think Shinichi would have her hair up all the time. It's just more practical that way. And I think the defining character traits for both of them are still there.

This is a short doodle comic that I was doing... I think it was supposed to end with Shinichi getting hurt, and Ran being really vindicated but also concerned ("SEE it's DANGEROUS to CHASE AFTER VIOLENT CRIMINALS"), and they argue about it and Ran realizes that Shinichi's not going to stop diving down dark alleyways and so they compromise... Shinichi learns martial arts as well, in exchange for Ran not bothering her anymore about her questionable life choices.

I think a lot of Ran's character traits become a lot more subversive if she's a man. Like the idea that Ran would rise to the mantle of taking care of his dad even though there's no societal pressure to do that... I think it makes that more of a choice than an obligation. And doing a good job at the domestic tasks... mwah! chef's kiss you know.

There's a particular scene in my brain where Ran is overwhelmed with the dirty laundry when he first moves into the detective agency office with his dad and he realizes that he's got nothing left to wear and the detective agency doesn't have a laundry machine and he doesn't even have a duffel bag or something to bring their dirty laundry to the laundromat and he calls Shinichi because he's panicking and his dad isn't helping since he's drunk off the walls at that time. And Shinichi digs through her house to find something that they can use and she also brings out her own laundry so they can do it together. morale support laundrymate I guess. And so late in the evening, in the quiet hours after the dinner rush has ended, these two middle schoolers are at a laundromat without a chaperone in sight. And in front of the dryers and washing machines quietly clinking and spinning and sloshing, Ran breaks down into tears. Why is it like this? It shouldn't be like this. And yet it is. And yet we have to contend with this.
