Season 1 covered events in the novel you wrote with Terry Pratchett – what was the inspiration this time?
Neil Gaiman (showrunner): Terry and I were sharing a room at Seattle’s World Fantasy Con in 1989 and, by the end of one night chatting, we had a huge, apocalyptic sequel to Good Omens. Season 2 is all the stuff we had to put in place before we could get to that sequel, and it starts with the archangel Gabriel [Jon Hamm] wandering through Soho, with no memory – a mystery that doesn’t have giant consequences for the universe, even if it does for Aziraphale and Crowley.
What has changed between Crowley and Aziraphale?
David Tennant (Crowley): Aziraphale is a much more enthusiastic detective in this mystery and, as with most things, Crowley is reluctant to get involved or to exhibit any kind of energy or enthusiasm, so he’s dragged into it. They no longer have to report to head offices, so they’re in this slightly grey area – neither supernatural, nor of the Earth.
Michael Sheen (Aziraphale): They’ve always been the only two beings who could understand each other’s position, but now they’re slightly freer agents so they’re pushed even closer together. It’s an interesting dynamic.
Maggie and Nina, you’re back too – although not as satanic nuns this time…
Nina Sosanya (Nina): No – we’re two human women! Nina is slightly cynical, churlish and owns a coffee shop, Maggie runs the record shop and she’s rather sweet and hopeful. It’s an ‘opposites attract’ thing and Neil kindly gave the characters our names so we couldn’t say no.
Maggie Service (Maggie): Aziraphale is still running his bookshop, but he’s also Maggie’s landlord. She thinks he’s the best because he lets her stay on and doesn’t really mind if she doesn’t make too much money. Maggie and Nina act as catalysts in a way, when Crowley and Aziraphale get involved in their relationship.

Being a landlord is a unique and exciting job. Not everyone is cut out for it. When it is good, it is perfect, meaning hearing zilch from your tenant in the way of complaints and repairs, and receiving that glorious rent check like clockwork. However, when things go wrong, that's when your job as a landlord kicks in. It is your job to make the wrong things right again, and it helps if you are close in proximity to your rental property. This way, you can get things corrected and running smoothly, as soon as possible.
1. It is not a matter of "if" but "when" things will go wrong.
Things will go wrong. They always do. This is not a negative attitude but a realistic one. And one, as a landlord, that you should be prepared for. When the tenant is locked out of their apartment, and no one else has the key, but you need to be there. And having a property that is a 3-hour drive away is not going to be very helpful in this situation. Knowing that you can zip over to the rental unit at 2 am, 10 minutes away, to give your tenant a key, can make your life a lot more comfortable.
2. Having a rental property close to you means you can keep your eye on it.
I had a complaint from my building manager not too long ago that one of my tenants was storing some stuff outside in the parking lot where it didn't belong. This made the place look junky. I told my tenant to take care of this. Then, when I had a free day, I took a ride over to the property to make sure everything was squared away. Incidentally, this "ride" was a 6 hour round trip. If I have only had my property across town, I could have easily spotted this trouble even before the building manager did, and I could have taken care of it before it became an issue. Because I couldn't keep an eye on my property, others were noticing questions regarding my property before I did. I didn't like this, because I take pride in running a tight ship. You should learn from my mistakes.
3. Having a rental property close to you means you can do many of your repairs.
If you are handy with tools and repairs, you may be able to tackle most of your rental unit's repairs easily. However, when the property is hours away, you may be better served by directly calling a maintenance specialist in that town and having him fix the problem for you. Often, the time you waste driving, to do a "free" repair which you don't have to pay someone to do, ends up not being worth it.

As it turns out, Big Red is preparing a tunnel to a bank vault, a criminal gambit both Gourlay and McMinn participate in reluctantly. When that caper turns out poorly, they’re roped into a planned battle between Big Red and his nemesis, Sanny Rutherford. Scores of men turn out, but before a chaotic fight ensues, the two massed groups bond over their common Scottish heritage. The imbroglio gives Big Red an idea: “We need a common focus, a national focus, and by God!…By God! We have it already in the English! We’re a divided nation—Glasgow/Edinburgh, Catholic/Protestant, Highlander/Lowlander, myself and Sanny even....Linguistically-speaking, a farmer in Aberdeenshire likely has more in common with a Dutchman than a Sassenach....But is there a better uniting force than a common enemy?”
Sleigh farcically chronicles the formation of a group of freedom fighters, the National Army for the Liberation of Scotland, or “N.A.I.L.S.,” a comically incapable ragtag bunch. Gourlay and McMinn seem swept into Big Red’s ambition as if by a massive wave, reluctant but also unwilling to assert themselves. This lack of focused agency, the author cheekily implies, characterizes the desultory Scottish spirit, an ethos more likely to complain of oppression than to competently wage war against it. Gourlay isn’t so sure simply being Scottish means all that much to Scots and therefore doubts it as a significant identity, let alone a call to insurgent action: “Near everybody Ah ken is Scottish, but Ah’ve nae idea to what extent they’re really aware of their national identity, or whether they give a damn about that.” The group’s exploits are the stuff of vaudevillian comedy, the bumbling errors of the perennially distracted. Sleigh’s wit can cut to the quick, but is also deeply silly, and that lightsome but feverish tenor is very hard to keep fresh for the length of a novel, even one on the short side. Furthermore, the dialogue is presented in the thick argot of colloquial Scottish speech, and for the uninitiated, it can be a tedious slough: “Onywey, he coudna get intae ma breeks, so he took a sheet an’ happit himsel’ up in it....Bluidy daft if you ask me.” This is a funny book, one brimming with deliciously irreverent insights. But that’s not quite enough to compensate for the laborious translation it requires.

I’ve been living in my new flat for a month now
First of all it’s a shithole
Second of all, these are all the things that currently do not work or need repairing
The oven doesn’t turn on so I had to get a countertop stove
The sink was clogged and meant I flooded the kitchen when I tried to do a wash- I was also unable to do my dishes/wash my clothes for nearly 2 weeks
The floor in the kitchen is torn and is a tripping hazard
The ceiling is damp and the paper is peeling off
The cutlery drawers don’t open
There are plug sockets that don’t work
The shower head holder is fucked
The shower has to be kept at a certain temperature otherwise it freezes or it scalds you
The sealant on the bath is nonexistent - thus risking water damage
What sealant there is around the bath and sink, is black with mould
I have been spending everyday on the phone to my letting agency and sending countless emails BEGGING them to arrange repairs.
The landlord has been refusing until he can find a cheap enough contractor to do them.
Some of the problems could be resolved with £5 and a trip to B&Q
He now wants to enter my flat to do the repairs himself, but is only available to do so when I’m at work- not going to happen!
Anyone want to take a guess at how much this shitey 2 bed flat costs for a month? I’ll tell you. It’s £700. Fuck landlords. Fuck letting agencies. Fuck anyone who thinks it’s okay to allow people to move into a new home where nothing works.
The agency and the landlord were aware of these issues before we moved in, but yet they allowed us to pick up the keys anyway.
