Lahori Mutton Karahi: A Rich And Luscious Mutton Curry From The Streets Of Lahore; Recipe Inside
When it comes to food, both Indian and Pakistani cuisines have many similarities. We like our food as rich and robust as they do and have an uncanny similar preference when it comes to snacks and curries too. Turns out that samosas, golgappe, tikkas and thick mutton curries are a regular fare on the other side of the border as well. Known for its rich food culture, Lahore is a city in Pakistan…

Bored of Fast Food? Time to go Desi!
Lahoris first love is food. From the thousands of restaurants in the area to hundreds of food blogs to the popularity of services that order food online in Lahore, everything proves it. You’ll find every cuisine here, but Lahore’s desi cuisine beats the entire country’s! Another remarkable thing regarding Lahore and food is that you’ll manage to find whatever food you are craving for in whatever budget you have. You’ll find Haleem in the most expensive restaurants as well as on the stalls at the roadside.
Pakistanis living abroad come to Lahore for enjoying the desi food here. Fast food has gained a lot of popularity too, in the last few decades but nothing can beat desi food! Burger can’t make you feel the way a delicious, hot plate of biryani with raita can! No soft drink can beat a filled glass of lassi! I truly believe that even the most appealing fast food restaurants have a tough competition against our desi restaurants. So, if you are tired and bored of eating desi food, here are a few desi restaurants in the city you should try:
Butt Karahi:
If someone asked me to define Lahore’s taste through just one restaurant, this would be my choice. Butt Karahi is a truly desi, truly delicious dishes offering restaurant. Both their chicken and mutton karahi are worth mentioning because they, honestly, would leave you wanting more. The BBQ dishes and other desi items are also pretty delicious. And lastly, their gulab jamun and kheer taste outclass too!
BBQ Tonight:
BBQ Tonight has chains all over Pakistan. The first time I ever tried it was in Karachi, then in Islamabad and finally Lahore. And I must say, all their chains make exceptionally great chicken tikka. I actually have nothing to complain about their menu, but if you go to BBQ Tonight, make sure to order the tikka. Oh, and BBQ Tonight’s food presentation is also top-notch so have fun taking pics of your food and posting them on social media! You’ll get a tonne of likes, I assure you!
Tabaq Restaurant:
Get the best value for money dishes from Tabaq restaurant. For an economical price, you can enjoy the most motheringly delicious food at Tabaq. There’s a large selection of desi food for you here at Tabaq too, by the way! You’ll find Karahi, BBQ, Haleem and much more. Tabaq doesn’t offer only traditional food, it should be noted. You can have fast food, seafood, buffet, Thai and a variety of other dishes here.
Lal Qila:
Talking about Lahore’s desi food and not mentioning Lal Qila would be a crime! While it’s definitely an expensive restaurant, their vast menu is worth it. You can enjoy the buffet, high tea, lunch and dinner here. Their behari boti and biryani stand out. A selection of desi desserts can also be found on the menu, all of which taste amazing.
Al-Nakhal:
Their Pakistani cuisine is top class. They have Arabic cuisine too but their speciality is in desi food. The dining area of this restaurant is truly unique with a large sort of tent on top and on-the-floor sitting arrangement. You should try their chicken and mutton handis if you visit them.
Bundu Khan:
You can’t come to Lahore and not visit Bundu Khan! From breakfast to lunch to dinner, they have separate menus for each time. And God, their food is finger-licking good! Bundu Khan is an old player in the food scene of Lahore but still remains on the top because of the variation in its menu and top quality of food. Try something as simple as kabab and paratha from Bundu Khan and you will become a fan!

Muhammadi Nihari
It started with a basic question posed of me , where does one locate the most luscious nihari in Lahore? Gladly sharing my experience as I ventured out into the greasiest of Lahori dishes, the renowned beef Nihari I found is located on Ferozpur Roadin Mozang named asMohammadi Nihari which started off since 40-50 years back.
I need to specify that Lahore, my great city, co-stars in this chase. Lahore is known countrywide for the veritable desi food accessible in Anarkali, Mozang, Lakshmi Chowk, Abbot Road, the Walled City, and a lot progressively such zones. Lahore that particularly draws food sweethearts from the nation over; and no outsider comes back from Lahore without tasting its rich, zesty, sleek, substantial food. Haleem, hareesa, fish, nihari, gol gappay, kunna, paaye, channay, BBQ, karahi… murmur and the rundown goes on. One just can't not be avaricious while living in Lahore. Those not used to this kind of food frequently wind up with stomach issues but then I would continue by quoting a famous saying regarding Lahore ‘You haven't lived in Lahore if you haven’t had these foods’.
Muhammadi Nihari is a thick zesty curry with exceptionally delicate slow cooked bits of beef. Beef is fried with ginger garlic paste in oil for around 10 minutes and then spices are added including turmeric, salt and red chilli powder and then heated again by filling it up with water. Plain flour mixture is added with other spices such as garam masala, etc to make the gravy spicy and thick according to the requirements. A slender drifting layer of cooking oil on a superficial level is viewed as a delicacy also known as ‘Tarkaa’which enhances its taste. You can eat it with a leavened baked flatbread, called 'Khameeri Roti'. It is the specialty of this place as Khameer (yeast) is mixed with sugar, milk and ghee ending up in a soft dough that is then baked. The delicious and mouth watering Khamir Roti originated from the Mughal era and was a staple amongst the people. It is made in a tandoor but one can also make it in a pressure cooker.
That is not it. They have some more alternatives to additionally upgrade the experience. For example, you can arrange some bone marrow (cooked obviously) to be included your serving. This is called Nali. On the off chance that that doesn't satisfy your hunger for fat, you have the choice of including seared goat cerebrum. Indeed, that is actually what I said .. goat cerebrum .. sighed. It is called 'Maghaz'.The speciality of this place is in its maghaz nihari.
Finely cleaved ginger, lemon and new coriander leaves are likewise served for the dressing on the table side. The mix brings about a luscious dinner that you will discover hard to overlook. They wear caps to avoid their hair falling in the plates which adds upto to their cleanliness.
The word Nihari is derived from Arabic word 'Nahar', signifying 'day'. One legend proposes its introduction to the world in the Jamia Masjid zone of Old Delhi in the latter half of eighteenth century during the downturn of the Mughal Empire. In the Mughal era, Nihari was served to the sovereigns after Fajr petitions who might then work it off till Zuhr supplications. Myths about this dish state that it was used to treat the influenza, cold and fever around then. In the long run, it was served to the work class day by day for breakfast and from that point forward has been a most loved among numerous as the main supper of the day on a vacation.
Coming towards the honest confession, Muhammadi Nihariis very economical as the price range of dishes vary from Rs.150-500 which attracts its customer’s everytime. Moreover, they offer both takeaway and dine-in 24 hrs.Nihari is additionally viewed as the official dish of Pakistan, yet this still can't seem to be checked. Initially, it was presented with a part of tender beef yet is currently accessible with chicken and mutton too, and topped with a layer of oil.So, if you are a foreigner or someone who is already living in Lahore or Pakistan that haven’t visited this place, I would say you definitely should as you’re missing out on a special thing!

**FOOD REVIEW** 🔸WHAT🔸 ➡️ Lazzat Mutton Karahi, Afghani Chicken bbq, Peshawari Kehwa + Gulab Jamun 🔸WHERE🔸 ➡️ MAALGA @maalgasocial 🔹REVIEW🔹 This place is the perfect blend of desi cuisine, culture heritage and theme restaurant. The usual trucker dhabba style restaurant has got some impeccable ambiance. The sitting arrangement is kinda attractive, all these little huts where you could just cozy yourself up. "Mutton Karahi" was full of flavours, the mutton chops were perfectly blemded into this thick spicy gravy, and I just loved it. It was cooked in our traditional Lahori style with green chillis and yougurt and other spices. "Afghani BBQ" was also a treat to eat. Perfectly balanced with saltand pepper, and it just melted in my mouth. So, the Peshawari Kehwa was so light to stomach, it kinda just digested all those heavy mains. Finally, hot gulab jamuns were served that ended the Iftar in the sweetest way possible. The staff at Maalga is a little untrained I must say, but the manager was hands-on. I think tge menu is fairly priced if we compare it to other eateries. Its a must recommended restaurant from my side. 🔸PRICE🔸 ➡️ Lazzat Mutton Karahi 2150/- ➡️ Afghani BBQ 550/- ➡️ Kehwa + Gulab Jamun 100/- 🔹VALUE FOR MONEY🔹 ➡️ 9/10 🔹JUBROON RATING🔹 ➡️ 9/10 Follow for more @aneebchaudary . . . . . . #jubroon #koijorrnahe #aneebchaudary #maalga #afghani #afghanirestaurant #maalgasocial #desicuisine #muttonchops #likesforlikes #instapic #lahore #pakistan #desifood #lahorefoodblogger #blogger #foodblogger #pakistanifoodbloggers #pakistanifashion #kehwa #peshawar #influencer #pakistanibloggers #lifestyleblogger #mutton #barbque #influencermarketing (at Maalga) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByAxcDNAwlg/?igshid=19rivczkznu1q
