I feel like (but it's only hc because as you said, the story is over now!) at the end of the WoH, while there was an "investigation" to determine who helped Nemesis, Rhea (since Seteth left to look for Flayn and their brothers fucked away) had "better" things to do, like rebuild Fodlan and help its people -
(a bit like the three house leaders different reactions in Remire - Edel wants to hunt the ones who did that (with all the dark humour it entails) when Dimtri and Claude want to help/support/look after survivors)
ultimately it wasn't the best choice she made, but given how the Church is still important in 1180, could Rhea truly have said "fig off" to all those people needing support and relief post War of Heroes, aka a war that spanned over 100 years?
(and that's not taking into account Rhea's belief, immediately after the WoH, that Sothis had to return because only she would be able to save the world)
Edelgard is full of nonsense when she says this, Enbarr is older than the Church of Seiros and was already a city when Seteth met his wife in a church (aka a church that existed before the Church of Seiros!), and ultimately created Flayn.
In Nopes, Rhea mentions how Edel's ancestor, her good friend Wilhelm, was a/the lord of Enbarr - but then we also know that Almyra and Brigid also have a nobility system (they have kings!) without the CoS and its crests playing any kind of influence... Nemesis himself was called "King" and the Elites were, iirc, clan leaders? Sure it's not the "nobility" with pretty titles and tights, but a social organisation that predates the Church of Seiros.
So yeah, it's nonsense to hammer how BaD the Church is, even when Petra should be able to rebuke her easily, but in those games, you cannot directly contradict Edel.
As for Church BaD and everyone being a yes man... I'd say it's not that the game wants the player to believe Claude and Edel are right, but more like they are wrong and misguided, but sadly, Byleth can't tell them to shut up and listen to their lesson explaining why their reasoning is full of crap because Byleth is a mute self insert and, again, in those games, you cannot directly contradict Edel.
Claude plays the reverse uno card, where Lorenz says the same things he was parroting in the pre TS about the Church's tenets promoting isolationism, only to grill Lorenz himself about this as he finally read the Seiros Books and says it never did so. Again, the writers couldn't make anyone contradict Claude, so instead, they foddered Lorenz to make Claude "grow up" and still appear as if he is the one who "knows".
For what it's worth, FE Heroes, Fe Cipher (back then!) and to some extent, FE Engage (even if it conveniently avoids mentionning/talking/referecing Nabateans) completely ignore the "church BaD" song and have Seteth, quite randomly, straight up demolish every accusation thrown by Claude or Edel - it never happens in the Fodlan games because 1/you cannot directly contradict Edel and 2/the church is red herring to make a "twist" that akshually, it was Edel behind Flamey's mask! 3/Edel merch has to sell, don't feel bad for her plz buy her merchandise.
Apparently Hubert managed to pinpoint their location by watching Javelins destroy Fort Merceus, I think? But in AM, iirc, Dimtri kills Thales "by accident" so the javelins are never thrown? So yes, I'd say it's the second option, without Thales the Agarthans aren't dangerous anymore?
FWIW, in his ending with Hapi, Dimitri finds Shambala, gets rid of the rest of the Agarthans and all is well that ends well in AM.
Yep, hard agree.
Those routes weren't handled well, but imo that's because the game itself doesn't know what it wants to be - is it a pure player fantasy with a waifu, or is it trying to be interesting with conflicting opinions but since the waifu should be a waifu and the other guy was charactersed as smart, no one can tell them they're sprouting shit - and tbh, if I hade to think about a better way with the routes, I'd yeet Claude from the story, and gice voice lines and develop Byleth's character - even if it means not ending up with the waifu.
FE16 didn't know what to do with its routes.
Quickly dumping out the Enbarr notes, since I'm sure the Shambhala section will have a ton of infodumping to note.
I think the only difference from VW is that we run some weird plan where a lot of our troops sneak into Enbarr ahead of the rest of the army moving in. Because uuuuh I guess we're weaker than the united army with Leicester? Everything else is pretty much exactly the same, including Dedue's part and the Edelgard death cinematic.
tbh I think it actually ends up feeling even weaker here? I thought it would fit better, since this is the "you like Edelgard but can't agree with her" route, but since she appears so little and her writing is so bizarre and confused... It actually feels kinda worse, since her dialogue feels incredibly inconsistent.
I thought I'd have some more appreciation for Edelgard after this route, but uh. I don't. Hm.
Anyway, onto more interesting points, I am starting to get the impression that Rhea and Seteth don't actually know much about the Agarthans. I think they might not actually know that the mysterious "those who slither in the dark" are from Agartha (and that's why they have beef), and it's basically explicit that they don't know who helped Nemesis make the Sword.
Which isn't an issue, but it's hard to remember that they know so little in practice.
Liveblogging:
A priestess mentions that they lost contact with all church personnel in Enbarr when the war started.
A soldier mentions that some of our troops have already departed for Enbarr dressed as merchants and traveling performers. We have an entire plan to have small squads sneak toward the capital and link up with the main army. The Empire apparently thinks we have abandoned our plans to invade (after Merceus).
Sylvain didn't think he's live this long (in the war)... bby. He wants to strike down the empire for Dimtri...
Apparently, we think Rhea is in Enbarr because of a soldier from Merceus. I guess Judith only told us that the Empire captured her. I already forgor.
The pre-battle blurb also mentions the troops moving in secret and our surprise attack on Enbarr. I don't recall this from VW. We were already outnumbered there, so I guess here with just the Church and Judith's troops, we're even worse off.
Based on the map close up during the pre-battle exposition, it looks like Enbarr was built on the delta where a river forks into two, with both ranches leading into the sea on the west.
Oh, Dedue is here! AC lied to me :( (/jk)
The music for his entrance is uh... imo it's a bit too heroic, given that he's here because Dimitri ended up like that.
He came after Gronder field, so... two months ago, since there was Merceus in between but not anything else. He gives us info on the inside of the castle (layout, presumably) and tells us that Rhea is at the palace.
Edelgard's axe, Aymr, is described as "a Crest Stone weapon designed to Edelgard's specifications, allowing her to use Raging Storm."
Edelgard's class, Emperor, is "With unparalleled defense, Edelgard appears as an unstoppable force in the legendary armor of the Adrestian Emperor." Note that her armor is a boobplate. So like... did they modify it for her, or....
Edelgard is so confusing. Even to the last, she goes on about how determined she is to "free this world" from the "vile grasp" of the "false goddess and her minion." But like... Edelgard has NO basis for beef with Sothis or Rhea. It's so puzzling and empty.
Dialogue with Seteth: He tells Edelgard to return Rhea and release her grip on Fodlan. Edelgard says that if we strike her down, "they" will return. So she can't permit what we desire (????? what? like, you'd assume she means the Agarthans, but everything else points to her talking about the Nabateans). She also knows that Seteth is a child of the goddess and thinks he can't be permitted power over the people. This is SO wild.
Anyway, to get this dialogue, I let Seteth get the last hit. The Edelgard death cutscene makes equally little sense on this route, btw. Edelgard was going "fuck you guys, I didn't think you'd make it this far, but I don't care and I'm never giving up" in the battle, but now she's all "you must strike me down to move forward, I wanted to walk with you..." GIRL WHAT
Hubert going behind Edelgard's back to write us a letter where he's basically entrusting the future and Fodlan to us is like....... l m a o This was whatever on VW, but on a route where we are the Church and those lizards Edelgard hates so much... god.
Anyway, Seteth apparently didn't really believe the Agarthans were behind all this, or else even around at all. He's very shocked and unhappy about Hubert's letter.
OK, unlike VW, where Claude is there for the info dumps and Rhea holds at least some stuff back, here she has no reason to hide anything. And she says she does not know where or how Nemesis got the Sword of the Creator. They only guessed that someone must have given him this power and tried to investigate it, but they never found the answer. They only NOW surmise that it was the Agarthans. ...hang on, do they even know that "those who slither in the dark" are from Agartha....
Felix and Sylvain are together at the monastery, cute. Felix even calls Dimitri by name when talking about defeating the Empire and the Agarthans to let him rest in peace.
Catherine backstory: She was born in House Charon in Faerghus > was called Thunderstrike Cassandra > attempted Officers Academy, was saved by Rhea as a student > was implicated in "a plot to kill the king" (seems to be Duscur) > fled to the monastery since she felt it was safe > Rhea hired her > and had her execute Christophe when he tried to assassinate Rhea, though the charges given publicly were regarding Duscur.
Is that right?
Anyway, next time: Shambhala
#kyogre-emblem#it's really infuriating to have the MC not being able to tell soemone reciting something#that uh no you're telling nonsense#I searched and studied and came to the conclusion you're biased#FE16

my pieces for @hoennzine !! i can't even begin to express what an absolute joy it's been to be a part of this project. if you missed out on preorders you still have a chance to get the book + merch when leftovers open on Jan. 27 !!
[ID: three digital illustrations. the first is of Tate and Liza floating in space with their aces. Liza, in the foreground, rests against Solrock's back with her limbs splayed out. she is winking and smiling widely at the viewer. behind her, Tate rests on Lunatone with his legs floating up behind him, looking at the viewer somewhat surprised. they are backed by a starry sky, various planets, and shooting stars that highlight the characters.
the second image is of a Minun performing in the contest hall. it is dressed in a pink tutu with a blue waistband and a pink ribbon with a blue emblem resembling its cheeks on its left ear. it is jumping in the air, smiling and winking. its cheeks are glowing and it is holding up two blue light sticks with electricity sparking off of them. below it is the stage and a plusle, dressed similarly, cheering it on.
the third image is the main room of Granite Cave as seen in ORAS. in the center is large set of stairs carved from the rock, surrounded by large stalactites and stalagmites, and on either side of the stairs, an omega and alpha symbol is carved in the rock. the stairs lead up to a massive mural on the back wall of Groudon and Kyogre fighting. Groundon, on the left, is standing behind erupting volcanoes, breathing fire and backed by a scorching sun. Kyogre is among large, swirling waves, dark clouds, and a raging lightning storm. between them, a triangular 'meteor' falls. at the base of a mural there is a hiker with a Ninjask beside him, illuminating the mural using Flash. thin streams of light leak into the cave from the upper right. /END ID]

Can’t hurt to try.
Alas.
Here we go!
Yes!
There’s something very satisfying about a fully-evolved party.
Alright let’s get after those dumbass pirates.
Mt. Pyre is a giant necropolis full of ghosts, Onion Babies, and kitsune. It’s probably my favourite of the various graveyard locations in Pokemon.
Bro you’re on a date in a haunted graveyard. The fuck is wrong with you?
Ohhhhh no.
Thank fuck for Thunder Wave.
Thank you!
Moving onto the summit, because Duskull are a 10% spawn inside, don’t spawn up here, and I can’t be arsed to wait for one to show up.
Perfect.
That went well.
They’ve honestly been more of a challenge than you scrubs ever were.
Because you dipshits keep trying to drown and burn the world I live in, numbnuts.
Lmao omniboost.
That’s not good.
I want to talk about this in a bit.
Specifically about the Orbs and which Pokemon they belong to in the original games.
They don’t take the wrong Orbs.
I know the instinct is to go “Red Pokemon = Red Orb, Blue Pokemon = Blue Orb, hurhur, Archie and Maxie are so stupid, why couldn’t they tell which orb belonged to which one?”
But they are 100% correct. Their plans are to awaken Groudon and Kyogre. The orbs they take awaken said Pokemon. What they didn’t count on was the Legendary Pokemon not being under their control after awakening.
Now, the tempting thing is to assume that this went wrong because they had the wrong Orbs, and we can catch them because (in R/S) we have the right Orbs! But that’s not the case. You show Groudon the Red Orb and it attacks you. Same with Kyogre and Blue Orb. They’re not responding to you because you have the right Orb. They’re attacking you because you have the artefact that belongs to their hated enemy.
Because the Orbs don’t match the colour of each Pokemon’s skin. They match the colour of the glowing lines on their bodies.
I think Groudon’s design buries this detail a bit, because base form Groudon’s lines almost never glow. The only time you can see them doing so is on Ruby’s title screen.
The anime makes it a little more clear. Kyogre responds to the Red Orb during Gaining Groudon and The Scuffle of Legends, and eventually uses it to take control of Archie’s body. Likewise, Groudon uses the Blue Orb to control Pikachu, using it to free itself and help even the score against its Water-type nemesis during their battle.
Unfortunately, it seems like this was a little too high-concept for Pokemon fans, because after Gen III, they flipped things back. In HGSS, the Blue Orb lets you access Kyogre, and the Red Orb lets you access Groudon. It also added the Jade Orb for Rayquaza, and ORAS held to the former switch, while ignoring the Jade Orb entirely.
TL;DR: Archie and Maxie aren’t dumbasses, and didn’t take the wrong Orbs.
In the originals, we get the opposing orb, but since both orbs were stolen, we get the Magma Emblem instead, which is our key into Team Magma’s base.
If only we knew where it was...
Ah, that’s right.
Stormbringer: A Pokemon Emerald Nuzlocke, Part 10
Well, we're past the scariest part of the run. With the exception of Tate & Liza it should be all smooth sailing from here!
Man, remember Classic Hex Maniac?
We've finally caught up with these goofs.
We won't be following them immediately, though. We want to go to Lilycove to get it set as a Fly location, and pick up some items.
Oh fuck.
We take those.
Neat.
Coverage!
Lilycove City, home of the Pokemon Contests in Emerald. Also the site of our last battle with our rival.
Contests aren't my vibe, but I need this to get into the Safari Zone.
Also, let's get this squared away.
This fight is technically optional, but I want my TMs.
I also expected this fight to have a fully-evolved starter as a kid, but nope, he does not.
Dude, it's cool. I spent like £30 on an Articuno a few weeks ago, no need to be insecure.
The record is 4-0 to me, my dude.
Only four? This won't take long.
Tropius is big and intimidating, but it's honestly kinda bad.
Case in point.
This thing isn't evolved either? Really, dude?
This might seem reckless, but it doesn't have any Water moves.
It just used Swift.
Next!
This thing also doesn't have a Water move. Y'know what it does have? Mud Sport!
Y'know, just in case it needed to weaken a type of move it's already immune to?
And make that 5-0 to me.
And we beat his ass so badly he quits and goes home.

If Pokemon Legends is the start of a new series within the franchise, I wonder which names other regions would get. (And which Legendary would possibly get the focus.)
Especially if they have multiple Legendaries and even groups of Legendaries like Unova with the weather gods and the Tao Trio. My guess is - going for the easy route - that they take the ‘masters’ of the groups and / or the region’s origin, because they cover each version of each generation.
So for Unova it could be Pokemon Legends: Kyurem.
Kalos could be Zygarde.
Alola could be Necrozma.
I’m wavering on Galar. The Wolves limit and stop Eternatus’ destruction similar to how Rayquaza stops Kyogre and Groudon. Plus the Wolves are pivotal for Galar’s national mythos as seen as with the Galar’s league emblem. But they don’t feel like the other groups either...
Also- Would the Wolves exist without Eternatus? And Eternatus’ influence can be felt even millenia afterwards in the Dynamax dens, the Wishing Stars, wild Dynamaxing, etc. It would affect a Galar of the past immensely while the Wolves are asleep in the Weald.
Except if you’d play around Eternatus’ awakening or shortly after... But still, who? Eternatus or Zacian and Zazamenta?
Maybe Calyrex instead? Their associations are most closely tied to the Crown Tundra, which to me both speaks for and against it as the titular pokemon. It does have connections to Galar as a whole but because of how you experience it in the DLC, it feels added on because it was added on.
Then again, they could deepen the lore between all of the local legendaries in a hypothetical Galar Pokemon Legends

Team Aqua Leader Archie Appearance- Archie is a strong man, who wears a blue bandana with Team Aqua logo on it. He also has a short black beard. Archie has a short moustache and a pale complexion. He wears black clothes and shoes, which have Team Aqua’s emblem on the chest, as well as on his back. Archie also wears a necklace. Personality- Archie's desire is to control the world by flooding the land. To accomplish this, he sought ways to find Kyogre and control it. Archie also doesn't care much for his subordinates and even betrayed them, for they were simply to carry out his orders to find the Red Orb. Biography- Archie had Shelly infiltrate Team Magma’s ship and free Kyogre. Shelly succeeded in the task and returned to Archie, who praised her. Waving the Red Orb, Archie had Kyogre destroy Team Magma's ship and laughed, seeing he and Kyogre could make a good team. Later, Archie came to Monsu Island and met up with Team Magma's leader, Maxie. Archie showed Maxie he found some spies among Team Aqua, who were to release Groudon and knew Maxie would sabotage the meeting. Archie showed the Red Orb, which he intended to use to control Kyogre and make Team Aqua rise up and control the world. Shelly also reported to Archie that someone also wanted to release Groudon, so Archie thought Maxie continued to send spies to release Groudon, even if Maxie claimed those were not his people. Archie admired Kyogre, who was under his control. As the Team Aqua members attacked Team Magma, Archie went on a helicopter with the Red Orb. He flew up and admitted he wanted to sink the island and betray his subordinates. Lance tried to warn Archie the Red Orb would take control of him, but Archie ignored him and refused to hand over the Red Orb. Archie used the Orb and had Kyogre attack Lance, who narrowly dodged the attack. Archie became even more power hungry and as the Red Orb was absorbed into him, he had Kyogre launch a tidal wave. Pikachu awakened Groudon and fought Archie's Kyogre. As a part of the plan, May and Brock sent Mudkip and Beautifly, which attacked Archie. Archie had Kyogre attack them, but Groudon launched Solar Beam, which defeated Kyogre. Thus, Archie's Red Orb was separated from his body. Archie fell off his helicopter, but was saved by Lance's Dragonite. Shelly tended to Archie, who woke up and did not remember anything. Along with Shelly, Archie watched as Kyogre went to the depths of the sea and Groudon went to the island's volcano.

So, playing Path of Radiance today, and being introduced to Soren, I had some bizarre personal revelation, and I invite you all to join me down memory lane on a very long, elaborate tale.
I know halfway through this you’re going to have forgotten where we started and be like “Roddy stop talking about your neurotic childhood playing Pokemon, what the fuck does this have to do with the character Soren from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, the ninth installment in the Fire Emblem series--” and I promise you it all comes full circle in the end.
So to start, check out my Rayquaza from Ruby, the first Pokemon game I ever played, and his nickname.
I have a Rayquaza named Sorenn. (Second “N” added by me to avoid copyright claims or commit tax fraud, or actually just to pretend I was original because I was a kid at the time.)
I love him. He’s one of my handful Ruby babies, from a game where I only used and got attached to a few Pokemon, but man did I get attached once I did. He’s the only one of them with a nickname, and he’s had it since I caught him.
So, the name “Soren”, where was I borrowing that from? Good question. As a kid, I read the book series Guardians of Ga’hoole, which is about warrior owls, and the main character is named Soren. ...but my Sorenn is not named after that character, not directly, not by me. The first of those books came out in 2003, but I didn’t start reading them until probably 2007 or so.
I think...most likely, my Sorenn is named after Soren from Path of Radiance, a game which I of course literally just started playing today. And I think it’s likely, but I can’t know for sure. Yeah, I really don’t know what my own Rayquaza is named after, but it could be for a character from a game I never played. This seems on brand - the fact that it’s bizarre, convoluted, and a long explanation that gets weirdly personal right out the gate.
I was a neurotic kid when I was young and it came to Pokemon. I had a very “if I die in the game I die in real life” kind of attitude and I would...basically have anxiety attacks at the thought of losing a battle in the game. The thought of having a Pokemon faint instilled me with terror - whiting out would be unthinkable. I wish I was making a joke or exaggerating, but I still have clear, distinct memories of the sobbing mess that the rival battle at Nugget Bridge/Cerulean City left me. I don’t know why I became this way, or what made me stop, because I did, but my playthroughs of Ruby and FireRed were marked by this sheer panic at the thought of making a mistake. It took me years to get through FireRed because I was paralyzed by terror.
My childhood neuroses are yes, somehow relevant to the nickname of one of my Pokemon, because my inability to play the game own my own is where the two other people involved in my story come in - my brother, and a kid he knew who we’ll call J. J was the only person we knew (other than our cousins who live 7+ hours away by car) at the time who played Pokemon. He was a bully to my brother, too, and eventually my brother managed to cut ties with him and find better friends, but at the time, Bro would go over to his house to play Pokemon, and sometimes I would come along.
J had many more games than we did, Pokemon and otherwise - he had a GameCube and Pokemon Colosseum, too. He played a lot, and restarted a lot, and didn’t really have too many sentimental attachments to his Pokemon, so he gave a lot of them away and never asked for them back. I still have tons of them in FireRed, and one in Ruby. (My Umbreon, the one that kickstarted my love for Umbreon, the spiritual predecessor to Tubbo, is his. He gave me it for the Mossdeep City Gym, because it was a double battle and literally my only good Pokemon, the only thing I had that was above level 30, was my Blaziken. He tried to take Umbreon back once and I cried. I still have it.)
I was terrified of the Elite Four in Ruby, even though I had a level 93 Blaziken and could’ve won only using it, but there was obviously nothing rational about anything I did with that game at the time. And Blaziken and my new Groudon were the only Pokemon I had that were vaguely good. So I borrowed two of my brother’s better Pokemon - his Swellow and Kyogre - and one of J’s, not counting the earlier Umbreon - his Rayquaza.
Note the one “N” and the different trainer ID number.
The other thing to know about how I played Ruby and FireRed was that I was a copycat. I wasn’t confident in my own decisions - I guess you can already tell that from everything I’ve already said. It was terror the whole way through. I was a weird, weird kid. But I copied so many of the decisions that my brother made - started with a Torchic because he did. Started with a Squirtle because he did, and chose the Helix Fossil in Mt Moon because he did. (Even though what I really wanted was a Charizard, and when I got one from J, who I still have, my Blastoise became a benchwarmer. Did I start with Mudkip in Emerald because my brother did or because I liked it better than Treecko? I don’t know.)
I copied nicknames, too, and gave them to some same Pokemon. Some from my brother.....and one from J. I just threw an extra “N” on there. That’s my Sorenn. I named him after someone else’s Soren the Rayquaza, and I don’t know who that Soren was named for.
I remember, though, J had a Tyranitar named Dante. It stuck with me because I’d never seen a Tyranitar before, nor heard the name Dante before. J played a lot of video games besides Pokemon, and I imagine his Dante was probably named after that one Video Game Man Protagonist named Dante, and not the Italian Bible fanfiction poet named Dante. I mention this to establish a vague possible precedent for J naming his Pokemon after other video game characters.
A few years later, I started reading the Guardians of Ga’hoole books, with their protagonist named Soren, which was a name I’d never heard before besides J’s Rayquaza, and I think I thought “huh, maybe J read these books too? Maybe that’s it?”
But it feels more likely, with all I knew of J at the time, that his Soren was named after Fire Emblem’s Soren. He had a GameCube, after all, and played a lot of games. (Bro and I were Pokemon-and-Kirby-only people, at the time.)
The question is really if the timeline adds up, and I can offer you a solid maybe. Here’s some release dates.
Pokemon Ruby - March 2003
Guardians of Ga’hoole (book series) - June 2003 (first book published)
Pokemon Colosseum - March 2004
Pokemon FireRed - September 2004
Path of Radiance - October 2005
I know my brother and I didn’t play Ruby and Sapphire on release, but I don’t know how long after it was. And I don’t know how long it took me to get to the point when I was willing to take on the Elite Four. It would have had to have been at least the end of 2005 if my Soren namesake theory is correct. Going off of my age then, I think it’s likely that it was at least last quarter 2005 - I don’t think I started playing Pokemon much younger than that. And Colosseum was out by then, so J definitely had a GameCube by then. I included FireRed on my timeline even though I don’t know how long after its release I got it - it was Christmas, but I don’t know what year. And I don’t know if I was finished playing Ruby by the time I got FireRed.
But...this was over a decade ago, and it was my mother buying us those games, and Bro and I weren’t aware of new releases to want to get them, and maybe it’s just the haze of memory talking but I feel like games did have longer lifecycles back then? Maybe I was just a kid and couldn’t know otherwise. I only owned like five GBA games by the time the DS released.
I could easily have just been playing Ruby at the end of 2005. J could’ve played Path of Radiance by then, and named his Rayquaza after a character from it. I think that’s probably the most likely scenario. It makes sense for all the pieces I have, and who I knew J to be. And maybe I’m just stretching to fit what I think, but hey, Soren’s a wind magic character, and FE wind magic is green, and Rayquaza is a green flying-type....
In conclusion, a game that I just started playing turned into a nostalgia bomb of the weirdest kid, and not for the “Ike is in Smash Bros and that’s a game I’ve played thousands of hours of” reason that I figured this game could nostalgia bomb me with.
And I grew up from being a weird kid to a weird adult, and that has me feeling rather fond of Soren Fire Emblem even though I just met him and he’s also kind of a jerk. He makes me think fondly on one of my most beloved Pokemon, who he may or may not be the namesake of.
#i love how this entire explanation is so bizarre and layered on its own and it doesn't even get into#why i'm playing path of radiance right now anyway which is 1/4th 'smash bros' and 3/4ths 'i had compulsion cast on me in a dream'#i'm begging myself to be normal for ONE DAY and i cannot be

X for the video game asks?
X: What you’d like to change about your favorite franchise?
Let’s go with Pokémon on this one since I wouldn’t change much about Zelda or Fire Emblem. So, *cracks knuckles* let’s talk about Pokémon.
Pokémon designs. This is a is subjective, and very opinionated topic. And a hot debate in the Pokémon community, but imo the Pokémon designs are getting waaaay too busy on some of the creatures. Especially the legendaries. Compare Pokémon like Lugia, Moltes, Articuno, Zapdos and Kyogre to legendaries like Zekrom, Reshiram, Ultra Necrozma, and Zamazenta. The older legendaries in gens 1-3 looked like animals, monsters, creatures that could live and breath and exist naturally in the world. But still look magnificent. Even the artificially created Mewtwo looked like he was a living creature, even if he was as alien and creepy looking as a shaved cat. But the legendaries in gen 5 and onward?? Clunky, robotic, unnatural. There’s so much loudness and craziness happening in their designs, and you could simplify half their design and they would still be freaking amazing. I have half a mind to draw simplified versions of those newer legendaries to show they can still look legendary and awesome without having a noisy busy design. They end up looking more like a deviantart OC trying to stand out, than a natural addition to the Pokémon world.
Giving Pokémon a difficulty setting. The games are waaaaaay to easy, and game freak is only making them easier, and forcing features that make the games easier. Like how in the latest installment experience share is MANDATORY. Meaning that all you Pokémon level up and grow even if you don’t use them. Which makes the game waaaay too simple. The elite four teams have less and less Pokémon. And you are at a higher level when you face them. It’s become a challenge not to over level. I want a way to make the games harder. They need to implement a hard mode for the more experienced players.
The handholding!! God dammit, it gets worse with every gen. Gen 6 was already mega stifling with its 4 friend/rivals, and they followed you everywhere, and led you around a lot. But then gen 7 just takes that to a new level with Hau and company. And that game just holds your hand, or better yet leads you around by your nose, and there is exposition and talking every 30 seconds. They NEVER leave you alone, not until you beat the game. And then Gen 8 can be arguably just as bad. Let me explore! Let me figure things out! Let me find the story on my own. Maybe hide some clues with the NPCs but make it my choice if I decide to talk to them or ignore them. And for god’s sake make some of the cutscenes and dialogue skippable!! All the annoying talking, and hand holding makes for a miserable experience. A problem the older Pokémon games NEVER had. Because they trusted that you were competent enough to explore and find the adventure and story on your own.
The animation. The animation quality of the newer Pokémon games has just been stale. It was new and fresh and exciting in gen 6. And they’ve just reused the same animations ever since. Both humans, and Pokémon move the same, shake their hands the same, and attack the same. In seven years the Pokémon company hasn’t bothered to improve their animation since they made the jump to 3D graphics in 2013. They’ve only spread some polish on the existing designs. It’s frankly sad, and boring, and frustrating. They even halved the amount of Pokémon available in gen 8 and promised that with less Pokémon it means they can make more expressive animations on the Pokémon that they do include. But that was a lie. The animations are all the same as they were in 2013. And youtubers have a myriad of videos showing animations side by side, and showing that the Pokémon company didn’t make any effort at improving the animations.
The story. The stories in the games are just the worst part about the games. Like they all suck. The latest one in gen 8 just makes absolutely no fucking sense, and interrupts the gym challenge quest with boring detours more than anything else. They are pathetic and my least favorite part of any Pokémon game. I was more invested in Team Rocket’s tiny story in gens 1 and 2, or Maxie and Archie’s rivalry in gen 3 than I am in the drivel they are regurgitating in gen’s 7 and 8. And arguably the story in gen 6 wasn’t much more interesting. It was passable, but unresolved.
Conclusion: Those are a lot of things I don’t like and would change, but if you ask me about the things I love that list would be much much longer. I could wax poetry about the things I love in a Pokémon game.

t and z for the video game ask meme??
Oh gosh thank you, friend!
T: Best game memory?
Beating the Elite Four in Pokemon Sapphire in the car on the way to South Dakota when I was 11. I think I beat the seventh gym, caught Kyogre, beat the eight gym, and did the elite four with all the driving we did. It’s a very fond memory for me!
Z: Game character you most associate with?
Silver, your rival from GSC and HGSS I really relate to Lissa in Fire Emblem: Awakening. She’s kind of the younger sister and sort of “forgotten” in a sense, like her older sister was the exalt, her brother wields Falchion, and she’s just kind of...there. Self-esteem issues, weird sense of humor. Kind of a drama queen lol.
#the answer can't always be silver i can go one whole day without talking about daddy issues ffs#gilleboll#answered stuff#thank you for the ask!!

Second Section of this little scavenger hunt. Same rules...I can use a picture from any show or game, as long as I can identify them, even if I haven’t seen it personally. Since it’s a hunt more than a “I want a pic of this chara”
Character Situations
Main Character The main character of any show or game. If there are two characters counted as the lead, you can use either of them! FOUND...Sword and Shield Male and Female protagonists with Lillie
Main Antagonist Now, as Anime sometimes shift who the Main Antagonist is (due to subordinates taking over after a main villain dies, or even just new antagonists every arc) and games do this from time to time too, as long as the person spends some time as the major threat in the heroes’ eyes, it will count. FOUND...Shigaraki with Himiko (Hero Aca)
Two Cosplayers as a Canon Couple Now, I know “canon” can sometimes be debatable when it comes to a series. Therefore, we’re only going for 100% verified couples who get together by the ending, between a show/game and a sequel series, or they’ve been stated to be romantically involved by the creators themselves. So for characters who appear to be canon but don’t officially get together (such as Ark and Ivy from CIMA...I know you don’t know who they are but that means nobody is going to complain about me using them as an example), they wouldn’t count. FOUND...Alm and Celica (Fire Emblem Echoes)
Two Cosplayers as a Non-Canon Couple This is for any couple that 100% DOESN’T get together (usually because one or more of them are involved with someone else, or the show/game isn’t romantic in nature). Again, that means you can’t use people (like, again, Ark and Ivy) who seem to be canon but aren’t 100% confirmed, as they exist in a gray zone between canon and non-canon. However, if the character is from a Harem that doesn’t answer who the MC canonically got with, any of the characters would be fair game (unless one is heavily implied to be the canonical love interest, but then you could use any of the other characters). You should probably try to choose a pair that is clearly playing them as a couple. However, if you can’t find any, feel free to choose any pic of two people you ship together, or possibly just make finding a duo acting romantic as bonus points. But...nothing with any extra characters in it (unless you’re playing it off as an OT3, OT4, etc.). FOUND...Ophilia and Therion (Octopath Traveler). Hey! I’m in one of these! The non-canon couples were pretty dry this year and this is my favorite ship for her. Even if we didn’t take the pic as a shipping pic.
Cosplaying Family Sometimes, the parents who cosplay will do a family cosplay with their kids. This must contain at least one adult and one child or teenager, and they must be in costumes from the same game or show! Not a family where one parent went as Kagome, one child went as Deku, and the second child went as a Pokemon Trainer. FOUND...Robin, Tharja, and Morgan (Fire Emblem Awakening)
Guy With a Giant Weapon It can be wide. It can be tall. It can even be both! As long as the damn thing is nearly as large or larger than you (or at least as large as your convention rules will allow) it can work! FOUND...Breath of the Wild Link with a Lynel Sword (Legend of Zelda)
Character With Lots of Weapons He doesn’t have to naturally carry them all on him in the game/show. Or even be a dude! But as long as you see someone running around with at least 3 weapons, you can use it! FOUND...a Cloud getting weapons ready for a fake duel (FF7)
Superhero I don’t care if it’s an American Comic Book hero, a Magical Girl, or a Japanese take on the American Super Hero! If the character can be classified as a Super Hero, you can use them! FOUND...Tsu (Hero Aca)
Magic User Tomes, Staves, Scrolls. Healing or Destruction. Human or Non-Human! If the character’s power is over mystical forces, they fit! FOUND...Flonne, Fallen Angel Version (Disgaea)
Deity Character They can be a god or goddess who shaped and created the world. Someone with limitless power. Or even along the lines of “nigh immortal and doesn’t consider themselves divine but is considered a god.” Just as long as they’re seen as divine by someone within the universe. Demon or Youkai Gods do count if that’s all you can find. FOUND...A Konosuba Group, so that means Aqua was there (Konosuba)
Dragon Character They can be in a full dragon suit, use body paint, look human but have some draconic features such as wings or a tail. Or even just be fully transformed into their human form. If the game or show classifies them as a Dragon, they work! FOUND...a hilarious pic of Corrin and Azura doing Jojo Poses due to a botched FEH summoning ritual (Fire Emblem Fates)
Demon Character Good Demons or Evil Demons, it doesn’t matter. I’d even count Youkai in this mix if you manage to find someone from a series that focuses on it (there are usually a few Touhou characters running around). Just as long as their series of origin classifies them as a Demon in some way. FOUND...Rin, actually in full Demon Mode (Blue Exorcist)
A “How Do They Battle Evil in This?” outfit Sometimes...games and anime make no sense! Too skimpy! Dress too long! Complete fashion disaster where their only victories should be due to making the enemy laugh so hard! It all can count as long as you or other people ask this question about them. FOUND...Judith (Tales of Vesperia) although she was also with Flynn who definitely does not count on this!
Pokémon Trainer They can be an actual character in the games or anime, a representation of one of the Trainer Classes in the games, or even just someone wearing normal clothes but running around with Pokeballs and at least one plushie! Although, you can choose to only go for actual characters or classes, or make getting one of them a bonus point. FOUND...Red with a Pikachu and Charmander
Any Pokémon Design Reinterpreted as Clothing Seriously! I’ve seen some creative things, such as the Hoenn Weather Trio being reinterpreted as a Kimono (Kyogre), a Samurai (Groudon), and a Ninja (Rayquaza). People who cosplay actual Pokemon usually do an amazing job at capturing their chosen ‘mon in human outfits. FOUND...Schoolgirl Scorbunny
Animal Companion Any animal that might assist the heroes, regardless of whether or not they are the game or show’s mascot. Even if that character is only around for minimal time, if they appeared and helped out, they count! FOUND...Rubble, Sky, Marshall, Chase (Paw Patrol...no, really, they even helped cheer up a crying baby at one point)
Mascot Character The opposite of above! It’s a mascot, regardless of whether said mascot is an animal, a mechanical lifeform, or even a mecha! As long as it’s very synonymous with the series of origin, it works! FOUND...Detective Pikachu (Pokemon)
Fursuit Whether they’re portraying an actual animal character or their own furry avatar, it doesn’t really matter. As long as they’re in a full on fursuit that you have to hand it to them for wearing even in the summer! FOUND...Susie (Delta Rune)
Group of Bishonen Doesn’t all have to be from the same series. As long as a group of friends are portraying a bunch of hot guys, it fits. Also, they don’t have to be the only people in the group, like if you got lucky and managed to find the entirety of a Reverse Harem’s cast which included the female lead they were all going crazy over. As long as most of the people are playing guys, it’s cool. FOUND...Fire Emblem Lord Group (that also had Lucina and Celica)
Character From a Game That’s Not Out Yet As long as you took the picture before the game is out, it’s fine. Even if said game is going to be coming out within a few days! FOUND...Kris and Ralsei (Delta Rune), though if you don’t think it counts due to Toby Fox’s vagueness on when the game will come out, I also did find Sonia from Pokemon Sword and Shield (because this fandom works crazy fast...there was also a Milo and two Wooloo running around but I didn’t get pics).
Jesus! No, really! I’ve seen people cosplaying Jesus at many a convention! FOUND...I found him!
ACQUIRED POINTS...21

I know this game has been out for a while now but I beat Alpha Sapphire last night ✌
For a naming scheme I went with weapon names from other games, because those are always cool. But for a couple of Pokemon that I used I ended up cheating a bit and using abilities, items, etc.
I also used like 8 other Pokemon over the course of the game, weeps Pokemon why must you have me choose between all my children
Honourable mentions (and name references) under the cut:
Levanter the Blaziken (named after the flaming sword from Shining Force II)
Falvern the Mightyena (named after the dark sword from Radiata Stories)
Starseeker the Delcatty (named after Serah’s default weapon in Final Fantasy XIII-2, to make reference to her line, “the cat is my only family!”)
Blink the Linoone (named after Tracer’s ability in Overwatch)
Titanstone the Aggron (named after (Critical Role spoilers) the vestige that Grog receives)
Caduceus the Plusle (named after Mercy’s staff from Overwatch)
Chronos the Roserade (named after Jun’s Persona from Persona 2; when he was a Roselia his nickname was Hermes)
Amulet the Latias (in reference to the amulet in Dragon Booster used to give the main character his armour)
Gungnir the Vibrava (Gungnir is a name used a lot for Dragoons in Final Fantasy; it’s one of Kain’s abilities in Dissidia 012 and one of Fang’s weapons in Final Fantasy XIII)
Brave the Altaria (in reference to the Brave Blade from Final Fantasy V)
Myrtenaster the Castform (in reference to Weiss’ sword from RWBY)
Rainfell the Milotic (named after Aqua’s Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts)
Storm Flower the Tropius (named after Ren’s weapons in RWBY)
Falchion the Absol (named after the sword from Fire Emblem, specifically to reference Lucina; when I played Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, I also had a female Absol named Falchion that was part of my main team)
I also named the Cosplay Pikachu “Ribbon” (an item commonly used in Final Fantasy as well), and caught a Spheal and named it “Snowball”, after Mei’s little robot friend in Overwatch, but I didn’t end up using either of them. (Spheal is so cute though, how can you not catch it ;;)
I think I named Kyogre too but I don’t remember what lmao
Thanks for reading!

Im screaming are you seeing this oof theory time also watch the new trailer before reading if you havent Obviously all the old team leaders are back but chances are theyre all working with giovanni and are under the new team rocket command, however this could be a false assumption as they all still have their original team emblems as seen on maxie's clothing Lysandre and giovanni are here so all those conspiracy theoryies about them dying at the ends of their games are probably debunked, however the ultrawormholes could connect to alternate timelines where they didnt die. This could be supported by a different event in pokemon ORAS when at the battle resort you find looker washed up asking where he is. There have been theories about looker having gone through an ultra wormhole and being transported to the battle resort beach in hoenn. Another thing worth noting is the outfits used for the team leaders, clearly archie and maxie's designs are from the originals ratger than remakes but in the trailer primal kyogre and groudon can be seen so this is very questionable. Another thing to note about remakes is thw fact that colress who was seen on akala island after beating kiawes trial is nowhere to be found. Faba is with the other evil leaders so now he's probably running aether and working with the other leaders. Team skull is nowhere to be found save for Guzma who appears to be helping the protagonist and this could relate back to at the end of SUMO when Hala talks to him after you defeat Guzma in battle and he mentions being a better person. You can also see the protagonist's official team but what's more is that under his incineroar is Sophocoles. This might imply that all the trial captains or at least Sophocoles himself will be helping the protagonist. The last point of interest is Wicke who is on the same side as protag. She is definitely going to be helping you considering what she did during the ultra beast missions of SUMO. Something that might just be me that im noticing is the blue X under tpucannons wing on guzmas shoe it is confusing as to what it is but it could very well be nothing. So far i have mainly analyzed the poster and i might do the trailer once it is released in english
