Are You Sure? - Part 1
Hmmm if I can request something, maybe exes to enemies to lovers with Jungshin? Not sure if you’d like details but it could be this prompt if it’s easier?: “trying hard to hate each other but something happened and they were stuck together. emotions & passions were running high”
I'll tell you what, anon. I honestly wasn't sure I would ever actually write this... but here we are! Thank you so much for requesting this, and I hope you enjoy your exes to lovers series! (I couldn't fit the 'enemies' part in here, I'm so sorry)
Genre: Exes to Lovers, Fluff, AU
Pairing: Jungshin x You (Female!Reader)
Warnings: None
Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Epilogue | Words: 1,706
Tumblr media
"Are you sure?" your best friend, Emily, asked you for at least the fifth time.
Before you answered her, you quickly pulled your phone away from your ear and checked how long it had been since you'd picked up her call.
Seven minutes.
Five times in the last seven minutes, your friend had asked you 'Are you sure?' when she had more important things to worry about right now!
Way more important things!
"Emily," you said firmly. "You are getting married in three days. I am one of your bridesmaids! I am incredibly, positively sure that I am getting on a plane in twenty minutes to be there for you!"
I mean, honestly! Three days away from your best friend's wedding where you're a bridesmaid! Did you even have a choice at this point?!
"I know, I know," Emily replied with a slight whine. "But -- it's just -- I mean -- well... you know."
You pressed your lips together to stop a sigh from escaping because, yes. You did know. You knew exactly what she was talking about.
And that 'something' was Jungshin. He was one of Yonghwa's best friends -- Yonghwa being Emily's future husband -- who was going to be playing in the band during the wedding reception.
And Jungshin also happened to be your ex-boyfriend.
But what did she expect you to do? Not go to her wedding? Return the beautiful bridesmaid's dress you'd bought months ago? You'd spent too many embarrassing hours on the phone with the hotel and airline trying to ensure you weren't around a certain bassist ex of yours for any longer than necessary to let it all go to waste now!
Tumblr media
You were going, and that was that!
"I'll be fine!" you convinced her. And, yes, you were also convincing yourself. "We're both adults, we can be civil. And if I don't feel like talking to him, it will be easy enough to avoid him!"
Emily was silent on the other end for a few seconds, then she let out a short exhale.
"Okay," she finally said, her voice quiet and filled with compassion. "You're a really amazing best friend, did you know that?"
Her words made your heart swell. "Not as amazing as you!" you replied with a cheesy smile you were sure she could hear through the phone. And before you had a chance to get all mushy and start crying (you would do more than enough of that over the next few days), you added, "I'm boarding soon, and I haven't even gotten my coffee yet, so I gotta go."
"All right," Emily acquiesced. "I'll see you soon. Have a safe flight!"
"I'll convey your words directly to the pilot," you chuckled. "Bye, friend!"
Once you ended the call, you slid your phone into your pocket and made your way to the nearest coffee shop. Even though you'd said goodbye to stop yourself from getting too emotional, you'd also told the truth -- you hadn't gotten a coffee yet, and at this point, you desperately needed one.
Thankfully, there was a small stand between your gate and the next, so it didn't even take five minutes for you to procure a steaming hot cup of brew and join the boarding line for your flight.
As you were trying to balance your coffee, your carry-on, and reaching back into your pocket to retrieve your boarding pass on your phone, you noticed someone in your peripheral vision. They had just arrived at your gate, and you were absolutely too focused on not spilling your drink to care about who it was... except...
You would recognize that tall, lean frame anywhere. Even in line at the airport after catching just one side glance at him, apparently.
"Shit," you whispered to yourself as your heart dropped down into your stomach.
Yes, you had been somewhat prepared to see him for the first time in months, but not here! In every scenario you'd pictured in your head, you would see him from across the room at the rehearsal dinner: a room so crowded, you would have plenty of places to hide and avoid. And you'd accepted that, were at peace with it!
Reality, it seems, had other plans! Because he was here! At the airport! At your gate!
Wait, hold on.
...Did that mean...?
Oh, surely not.
That didn't mean he was on your flight, did it? Because, as previously mentioned, you had changed your ticket for the sole reason of not being on the same airplane as him for three hours!
So, had he also changed his ticket?
Before you could think any more about that, you reached the gate attendant and had to scan your boarding pass.
"Thank you," you murmured after hearing the melodic 'ding' of a successful scan, precariously shifting your phone to the same hand as your coffee so you could grab the handle of your suitcase.
As you walked down the boarding bridge, you had to actively force yourself to concentrate on not spilling your phone or dropping your coffee so your mind wouldn't wander to a certain fellow passenger whom you had not been expecting to see for at least 24 hours.
Nope. Rewind for just a second!
You had absolutely just thought 'spilling your phone or dropping your coffee,' and it absolutely should have been the other way around.
Let's try that again.
As you walked down the boarding bridge, you had to actively force yourself to concentrate on not dropping your phone or spilling your coffee so your mind wouldn't wander to a certain fellow passenger whom you had not been expecting to see for at least 24 hours.
There we go.
Now we may continue!
You had double-checked your pass about five times before Emily's call, so you were certain you were in seat 22A. What seat was --
No, stop! Stop thinking about him! Keep thinking about holding your phone and your cup in a firm grip so neither of them fell to the floor!
"Hello!" a smiling flight attendant greeted you as you stepped over the threshold and into the plane.
You greeted him back, flashing him a quick smile and carefully navigating into the narrow aisle to make your way down to row 22.
Then, after you set your phone down on your seat and a very courteous person behind you offered to hoist your carry-on up into the overhead bin, you slid past the other seats in your row and plopped down in your chair by the window.
...Okay, now you could think about it.
What seat was Jungshin in? Would he have to walk past you to get to it? Would he see you? Why was he even on this flight? He was supposed to be on a flight tomorrow, as was the original plan the two of you had made when you'd still been together! So, he obviously had also changed his ticket, but why? For the same reason as you? To avoid being on the same flight as you? The thought that had persuaded you to change your ticket was that he wouldn't have had the idea to do it himself. (To be honest, that was a rather large part of the cause of your break-up -- he had relied on you to do a lot of the heavy lifting in the relationship, at least mentally and emotionally.) It just didn't make sense to you that he would have been thoughtful enough to do something like this for you!
Had he really changed that much since you'd last spoken? Honestly, the curiosity was starting to eat you up inside, but before you had the chance to dig your phone out from underneath you to text Emily, you caught a glimpse of Jungshin coming down the aisle.
Hurriedly, you slid down into your seat and leaned forward as if you were searching for something in your personal item bag on the floor. Even if he did walk by you and noticed you, surely he wouldn't be able to recognize you based solely on your hair. A lot of people had the same color hair as you!
For what seemed like hours, you dug around in your bag, sifting through everything you'd packed in there, but of course looking for nothing in particular. And when you finally felt it was safe enough to sneak a peek, you ever so slowly tilted your head to the side, letting your hair slide away just enough to allow you to see.
Well, there was no sign of him in your row, thank god. So, you lifted your gaze just a bit more. Relief flooded your chest when you saw the aisle was ex-boyfriendless, also. Of course, this meant you didn't know where he was sitting. You'd have to subtly investigate during the flight because the not knowing would bother you.
Let's be real here: everything about this situation bothered you. You had already been dreading seeing Jungshin at this wedding, but you'd been slightly comforted by the fact you wouldn't have to share a flight or hotel room with him. And now you'd been robbed of half of that comfort!
You were supposed to be happy for your best friend as she married the love of her life and started on the beautiful and wonderful journey of marriage with her soulmate. You were supposed to be thrilled, over the moon, basking in joy!
But, nope! You were bothered and uncomfortable and irritated and jealous and annoyed and --
Wait, excuse me?
No.
No, no, no, You were not jealous.
You truly were not sure why you'd thought that word because you weren't. You were not jealous! Not at all!
Had you thought at one point that you were going to marry Jungshin? Yes, to be honest, you had. Were you upset that it wasn't going to happen?
...I mean, maybe.
Not upset, really, just... a bit glum. A relationship ending is almost always upsetting, right? Especially when it had been someone you'd thought you would marry.
But never mind all that. The point is, you were not jealous.
You. Were. Not. Jealous.
Now, you just had to get through this flight and get to the hotel without thinking about, seeing, or bumping into Jungshin.
Should be pretty easy, right?

Help Author-nim, Just wondering If you could list some of your favorite K-pop songs, and probably some of your favorite K-pop Boy group/Girl Group. Thankss!!
Well, If I have to list it, It'll probably come down to these 10 songs. This is the only K-pop song that I could listen to on repeat 24/7.
OMG - NEW JEANS
Cosmic - RED VELVET
Live My Life - AESPA
Love Scenario - iKON
Crazy Over You - BLACKPINK
Loner - CNBLUE
Midas Touch - KISS OF LIFE
Forever - BABYMONSTER
Really Really - Winner
Love Shot - EXO
Again, This is My current list of songs that I can listen to all the time, This does not mean I don't listen or enjoy other K-pop songs other than these lists. And if I have to list my favorite K-pop Boy Group/Girl Group, It has to be, Personally for me :
GIRL'S GENERATION/SNSD
BIGBANG
BLACKPINK
TWICE
EXO
BTS
NEWJEANS
AESPA
IKON
IVE
WINNER
STRAY KIDS
ITZY
IZ*ONE
GFriend/VIVIZ
This is some of the most important and impactful Boy Group/Girl Group, That actually got me hooked into the K-pop scene, I still blatantly remember the first time my sister forced me to listen to one of her favorite K-pop boy groups named Super Junior. At first, The Idea of K-pop was weird to me, But after a few years or so, I finally saw and listened to my first ever K-pop mv that I enjoyed, Which was Girl's Generation/SNSD's Genie. I finally understood that K-pop was so much more than just giving or showing visuals of their idols, But it could also produce some top tier idols and songs such as them. And ever since that, Your boy here got hooked on so many groups, That it was almost basically a new culture to his life. But yeah, Anyway sorry for getting too deep and emotional there, But yeah, This is my list of some of the most important and impactful, and some of my favorite K-pop groups out there. Hope you enjoyed it.

ACT ONE: PART ONE
“Ow!”
"Watch it, loser!"
The door had opened right into your outstretched hand, and your knuckles screamed in pain, but you desperately tried to control your breathing as Eugene Thompson--aka Flash--scrambled past you. You glanced back at his burly figure and spiky blond hair thudding down the hall, bumping into everyone he could and blaming it on them. You shook your head, and carefully reached for the door again, quickly pulling it open.
You headed to the back of the classroom, holding your hand tenderly.
"Well, Y/N," started the teacher, and you looked up to see that no one else was in there. "Almost all the other kids just left to go on that field trip." He noticed you were in the back of the room. "Have a seat up here. I'm surprised you didn't go--after all, you're one of my top students."
You took a seat in the front, unzipping your backpack. "Yeah, well, I'm fine in your class, Mr. Kang, but science class is a different story."
He chuckled. Then he shrugged into his words: "I didn't have much planned today, so you're free to work on another class... science, perhaps?"
You nodded. "Will do."
You looked down at your hand that Flash had smashed the door into. It was still throbbing and red around the knuckles, but luckily didn't break open any skin. Then you checked the faint Light underneath the skin on your wrist, and took a calming breath when the energy dial was low. It will be fine, you reminded yourself. You shook out your arm, then pulled out your laptop.
The tab currently open was a few of your photography club pictures. You'd had them done for days, but thinking about showing them to anyone gave you goosebumps. You closed the tab, and opened the class site.
Your science teacher had posted an assignment for people not going on the field trip; that included you and only you. As you looked through it, you knew she'd done it simply to irk you, because you were learning about plant biology, not the chemistry behind a spider's venom. Of course, it was clear that the field trip was also useless, since your peers that went weren't required to take notes.
But you weren't about to go on that field trip. They were touring Oscorp, the second best robotics and chemical manufacturing company in the States.
Oscorp was also home to many of your fears. Sure, spiders were freaky, and their robots were always a little creepy to you, but they weren't even half of what truly scared you.
Suddenly, you noticed you'd been pressing the keys down hard, and the screen in front of you was full of the home row letters. You blinked, and put your head in your hands. Palms pressing on your eyes, you tried to focus on the shapes in your mind so you could stop thinking. But every flash of color was like memory lurking just below the surface.
It's going to be fine.
The door opened, and you looked up, eyes readjusting to the light through a squint, and met eyes with a couple students whose pleasant smiles quickly turned to upturned noses.
Your stomach lurched.
A batch of juniors that just so happened to hang with Flash--apparently they'd grown up with him, and kept hanging with him even when he got held back. So, of course, they loved to bully whoever he decided wasn't worth his time.
And that included you.
You felt your muscles tense up, and your heart rate was increasing ever so slowly, but you knew that you'd be fine with Mr. Kang in here--
"Oh, good! You just needed those copies for your project, right?" Mr. Kang said, getting up. "You can stay here and keep an eye on Y/N, though they probably don't need it, and I'll go print those for you."
"Yes, sir," said Julie. She cast you a nasty smile. "Thanks."
And soon enough, you were alone with a gang of bullies. Your hands squeezed into fists as your thoughts turned dark.
There were four of them in total. A tall football boy with greasy blond hair past his ears folded his arms and flexed his chest over them. You thought his name was Connor. A girl holding a phone in front of her face ruffled her coffee-brown hair so she had an extreme side part, and then stuck out her tongue and its piercing for a picture. You didn't remember her name, but knew her follower count was impressive. Then there was Julie's boyfriend, Riley, who had his arm across her shoulders and his chin held high in the air.
But Julie was the clear leader when Flash wasn't around. She held herself so confidently, and twirled her long red hair with one finger in a way that almost seemed like a threat. You swallowed, and gave the best smile you could muster, then glanced back down at your screen. With tense muscles, you sat there praying.
It's fine, you're fine, you're calm, you're normal, you're fine!
She marched over to your desk, but you were glued to your seat in fear. When you met her eyes again, they were livid.
"Good morning," you said. But maybe you really should have stayed quiet this time.
~~
"Does anyone want to take a guess at what percentage of the work done here began in Mr. Osborn’s notebook?”
“Probably one percent, tops,” said Flash, snickering. “If his straight-C's son took after him, that is.”
“Anyone else?” Liz said, shaking her head. She was technically supposed to be learning with the rest of the sophomores, but she was an intern there. They asked her to take the group on a tour, and thanks to her confident smile, Jongseob couldn't take his eyes off of her.
She tucked her dark wavy hair behind her ear, and he watched her bright eyes search the group. He didn’t notice that she’d focused on him. “Jongseob?”
“Sorry?” His face heated up as he glanced away. “Um, seventy percent?”
She grinned. “That’s more like it.” He felt his heart skip a beat when she smiled especially brightly in his direction.
Soul leaned over his shoulder and whispered, “Dude, do you think she’s into you? That was-“
“Shut up, Leeds.” Jongseob nudged in the side. Soul leaned away, laughing.
Liz shook her head once more at another kid, and then Intak raised his hand.
“90 percent.”
“That is correct! Mr. Norman Osborn is the main mastermind behind this company’s projects. Of course, Intak would know more about it than me, but…” She gave a close-lipped smile. “If you’ll look here…”
Soul patted Intak on his shoulder. “Flash just shot you the nastiest look. Should I fight him to defend your honor?”
Jongseob and Intak blinked at him. He hunched over.
“Yeah, who am I kidding? I’m not street smart. I can’t give up my perfect school report to defend you.”
Intak shook his head in a chuckle. “Either way, my father doesn’t reflect what I’m like in school. Flash has a point. I get B’s in my first language, and my dad comes up with all the latest ground-breaking technology.”
"Yeah, I'm not so sure about that," Jongseob said with a laugh. "How could your dad have come up with all of this? He's just a guy."
Intak shoved his hands in his pockets. "You'd be surprised."
“Now, if you follow me to the next room,” Liz announced, opening a door that Flash immediately strutted through, “you’ll be able to see work on the neutralization of deadly spider venom.”
The class gasped a little at the sight of webs strung across the entire room. Flash tensed, and froze in the doorway.
“These spiders live the average amount of time and can eat the same things as usual, but their venom is engineered not to hurt humans in any way.”
“L-let’s go to the next room,” Flash said, backing away.
“Not yet. Are there any volunteers to hold one of these little spiders?”
Jongseob glanced at his friends, but Soul shook his head hard. Intak crossed his arms and smiled sweetly. “Jongseob will!” he called.
His heart dropped. “No, dude, what?”
“Don’t you think it would impress Liz?”
“Come on, Jongseob!” she said.
And then he found himself pushed to the front of the group, presented with a spindly arachnid hanging by a string. Its beady eyes stared down at him, legs wiggling as it lowered itself. It was like it knew what was happening. He held a shaking hand below it, every part in his body already tingling in anticipation and, honestly, fear. He knew it wouldn't hurt him, but he couldn't get over the thought of eight legs crawling all over him.
And then it hit his skin. The whole class seemed to shiver in excitement, watching the nerd hold a bug half the size of his palm. But it did nothing. They just stared at each other.
"See?" Liz offered. "It's entirely harmless."
Jongseob allowed himself a calming breath, and then laughed. It inched down to his wrist. "This isn't so ba- Ow!"
The spider went flying through the air as Jongseob looked down at his wrist in shock. It bit him! It wasn't supposed to injure him in the long run, but the bite was right beside the Light. He shifted his sleeve a little and watched his veins pulse strangely, before reverting back to normal.
"Hey--Jong-" Liz rushed toward him, reaching for his hand, but he flinched away.
"I'm fine! Haha, don't worry. It's not like it'll kill me."
Her brows furrowed, but then she nodded, and turned to the screaming group trying to get away from the rampant spider. Flash was nowhere to be seen.
He looked back down at his wrist. Sweat beaded on his forehead. He swallowed, hard. Then he rushed out the door, knocking into Intak's shoulder on the way. Where were the restrooms? He barely made it to his own stall before collapsing over the toilet, gagging.
~~
"Stupid, stupid, stupid." You patted down the entirety of your backpack and quickly realized your chip wasn't in there. It was like an inhaler for your "episodes", and every time you got too confident in yourself, you let it go missing. And right now wasn't a good time for it to be.
A shudder passed through your body, and your jaw clenched so hard, you thought you might crack a tooth. You glanced at the juniors, and knew immediately that this would be bad. You just had to leave--
"So, Y/N, I hear you got a perfect score on the science homework," Julie started with a smirk. "Oh, wait, you didn't even turn it in. Thanks, by the way, for lending it to me."
She sat on your desk, and you immediately stood up, accidentally pushing your notebook off the desk. The juniors gasped. All you could feel was your blood rushing in your ears. She scoffed, and her friends stepped closer to you.
"It's not like you needed it. Are you going somewhere?"
You tried to take a slow, calm breath, but it sounded angry.
"Got--to--go," you managed, before shoving past a couple of them. They reached out to grab you, but recoiled from your skin. Your arms were rock hard--not because of any muscles, but because of the episode that was beginning. You had to get out of there, before you exploded.
You pushed open the door in a hurry, revealing a shocked Mr. Kang and a stack of papers going everywhere. You couldn't even squeak an apology, and instead tears began to stream down your cheeks as you ran.
"Julie? We need to talk," you heard him say, and then you rounded a corner and slammed into the fire retardant box on the wall.
Its door went flying, and you didn't even bat an eye until you reached the restroom and could splash your face with cold water. You couldn't even feel it, which was a really bad sign. But you kept doing it, hoping that it would reverse the effects. When you started feeling the chill, you stopped, and ripped a paper towel from the dispenser to dry off. You hadn't even noticed the water had splashed all over your front side until then.
"Great." You grabbed another paper towel and tried to pat off the wet splotches on your shirt, but it didn't help. You caught yourself in the mirror and laughed. You were a sight to behold, for sure.
Your eyebags were the biggest thing on your face. Your eyebrows were drawn in a permanent scowl. Worst of all, you could still see the uncontrollable fear of yourself in your eyes. You were disgusting--horrible. You could imagine the headline: "UNDERCOVER FREAK OF NATURE INFILTRATED HIGH SCHOOL." Thanks to Julie and her gang, you were always on edge, wondering which day would be your last at this school. Sometimes you resented her for the fear. Today you found yourself wishing she had won this time. Maybe then you wouldn't have to hide. Maybe then someone would hear you out.
Maybe then you'd get help.
But as you stared into your own soul, you knew there would always be something wrong. You couldn't be fixed. A monster that hid under its own bed was better than a monster running free.
There was a knock at the door, and your head flung toward the sound. "Y/N? It's Mr. Kang."
Your voice stuck in your throat. Glancing down to your wrist, the dial seemed to be cooling down. You shuffled your feet to the door, opening it shakily.
When he saw you, he sighed in relief. "I'm glad you're okay. I had my suspicions about Julie and her friends, but I didn't know they had a problem with you."
All you could do was nod.
He pursed his lips. "Let's go talk to the principal."
You followed him, the sound of shoes on the floor echoing in your ears, but all the while you wondered how you weren't spotted yet. How did he not realize you were the freak? If anyone deserved to be bullied, it was you.
"No one deserves to be bullied, Y/N," he said suddenly. You blinked, and he chuckled. "That must be why you stayed quiet about it, right? Well, you're wrong. You are a great student and a good person."
"Thanks, Mr. Kang." There was really nothing else to say.
"So, you're being bullied? Homework stolen, a couple of sharp words, and you've been physically hurt before?"
"Yes, sir." You looked down at your hands, tugging your sleeve further over your wrist. Mr. Kang had gotten you a dress code sweatshirt to replace your soaked one. It gave you little comfort when speaking to the principal like this.
"I'm thankful for the report." The principal cleared his throat, and finished typing. "However, Y/N, I can't let your own behavior slide. Not fully."
You snapped your eyes upward, suddenly feeling a tingling in your body. You struggled through a calming breath, but your eyes clouded up anyway. "Sir?"
It's fine, it's fine.
"You broke school property today. The fire retardant case is completely smashed on the floor. I'm afraid you'll have to pay if off. Since you're a great student and I don't totally blame you, only worry about two hundred bucks of it."
You released a shaky breath, nodded, and reminded yourself that they really couldn't know anything was different about you. Hardly anything really went wrong, and accidents happen. You could pay this off, and then no one would have to pry further. If only you had the money.
~~
“Hey, Jongseob?”
Jongseob squeezed his eyes shut, tears wetting his lashes. He clutched his stomach gently, leaning a little bit more over the toilet. He was on his knees, keeled over in a public stall, and he’d forgotten to close the door. Well, it was too late now.
“Jongseob, are you in here?”
It was Intak. He wanted to sigh in relief, but every movement he took made him more aware of the nausea building up. He glanced at his wrist again, but the bite was still very prominent.
Can’t harm him? Yeah, right. Stupid, stupid, stupid! He’d always pretended to be the same as everyone else. But the light on his wrist was proof of otherwise. He suddenly gagged, and ripped his hand from his stomach to the toilet seat to brace himself.
The episode came and went, but then he saw that the entire front of his shirt had come off with his hand now on the cool ceramic. Fresh air met his sweaty chest, and he took a steady breath.
Footsteps approached quickly, then, and he knew immediately that Intak was there.
“Oh, man, are you okay?”
Jongseob’s cheeks burned in embarrassment. He wasn’t necessarily a cool guy in front of his friends, but this was sort of humiliating. The son of the creator of these spiders witnessed him basically overreact.
“I’m sorry,” he managed, hanging his head.
No answer. He heard paper rip and water run, and then Intak came back over and pressed a damp towel to his forehead.
“Don’t be sorry. A lot of times the placebo effect really does affect you like this. You know it’s not gonna hurt you, but some part of you still fears it, so your body reacts.”
Jongseob tensed, and finally looked up at his friend. He was shocked to see a kind smile, where there normally sat a reserved frown.
“It’s totally normal, it’ll be fine.”
“I want to go home.”
Intak nodded. “Let’s go. Where’d your shirt go?” Then he spotted it. “Ah.”
“I don’t even know.”
Somehow Intak snuck him out of the crowded building, and got him an extra lab coat to cover up with, no problem at all. He was starting to feel much better, and wondered if he should say he’s fine to go back.
But they were already in a taxi headed to his Aunt May’s house, so he let himself recover. He pressed his palms against the leather beneath him, and stared out the window at the city flashing by.
Oh no—Aunt May! That would not end well. If she saw him come home early looking so sick, she’d ask questions. He knew logically, it wouldn’t be a big deal to lie a little bit, but he also knew he was a terrible liar.
“My dad will pay for any healthcare you need, if you do.”
He sucked in a breath. “No, no, it’s not a big deal. I feel much better by now.”
Intak laughed, “Good! Because explaining this to him would honestly suck.”
Jongseob believed that. Mr. Osborn was a stern man, and he could guess that he wouldn’t be too happy to hear his project was having negative effects. He’d probably care more about silencing this incident than Jongseob himself.
But that wasn’t a big deal.
“Woah, you can’t even see the bite anymore!”
Jongseob jumped and looked down, and realized it really was gone. Like nothing happened. Maybe he really had imagined it. He sighed, looking out the window once more. Intak patted his shoulder with a similar sigh.
The taxi stopped, and Jongseob realized he was staring right at his house. He started, and thanked Intak sincerely, offering to pay him back. As always, that wasn’t an option. Intak waved goodbye and Jongseob turned to face his front door alone.
Unfortunately for him, Aunt May spotted him through the glass of the door almost immediately.
“Jongseob!” she exclaimed when he opened the door. “What- what are you doing back here so early?” She threw down a pile of folded towels—it was laundry day—and reached out to caress his face with soft, cool hands. “You‘ve got a fever.”
“Just a small one, but I guess it was enough to leave early.”
Her forehead creased and her worry lines grew deeper. Before she could say anything, he continued.
“Honestly, I just wanted to leave. It was boring and had nothing to do with class. I have homework to do.”
She stepped back, eyeing him with suspicion. “Alright. Well, help me carry these up to the bathroom and then you can get on with that schoolwork.” She wagged a bony finger in the air, and a smile began to form on her lips again. “You’ve got to keep your scholarship, or you’ll be getting a job!”
Jongseob relaxed, and took the towels with a forced smile, hurrying up the stairs. “Love you, Aunt May!”
“Oh, get on with it!”
But once he’d ducked into the bathroom, he realized there really was something wrong. The towels wouldn’t drop. It was like he was… sticky.

Are You Sure? - Part 6, Final Chapter
Genre: Exes to Lovers, Fluff, AU
Pairing: Jungshin x You (Female!Reader)
Warnings: None
Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Epilogue | Words: 3,644
Tumblr media
Mere seconds after hearing the door lock, you hoisted your armload of napkins into the washer and dashed over there. You grabbed the door handle with both hands, shaking and jiggling it to make sure you'd heard what you thought you'd heard.
And, yes. You had. The door was locked.
Since neither you nor Jungshin had yet found the light switch, you felt around the handle to see if there was a thumb turn or a keyhole or anything.
Of course, there wasn't.
So, you slid your hands along the door itself, trying to feel for something you could use to unlock the door from the inside.
Nothing.
You decided it was now time to resort to desperate measures: you balled your hand up into a fist and banged on the door.
"Hello?" you called out, pressing as close to the door as you could in an attempt to get anyone outside to hear you better. "Hello?!"
Suddenly, the closet filled with a somewhat dim light, and you lifted your gaze to see Jungshin standing right behind you, lowering his hand from the short chain attached to a lightbulb on the ceiling.
Well, at least you weren't in almost total darkness anymore.
Jungshin then reached over you and began knocking on the door. "Is anyone out there?" he asked, his voice raised.
"Hello?" you repeated, continuing your own knocking. But when it became clear no one could hear you, you paused and tilted your head up to make eye contact with Jungshin. "Do you have your phone? Mine's in my bag at my table."
Jungshin raised his eyebrows and immediately reached into his back pocket. "Yeah, right here."
You turned around, leaning your back against the door as you watched him clicking around the screen, presumably calling Yonghwa. And in the few seconds of silence, you couldn't help but lift your hand to your mouth to anxiously chew at your cuticles.
"It doesn't make sense," you whispered to yourself. Why would someone have locked the door? It almost felt --
"Hey, can you come unlock that supply closet?" Jungshin's voice rang out suddenly, and you almost jumped.
Your gaze nervously flew to his face, and your heart skipped a beat when you saw his forehead wrinkle.
"Wait, what? No, Yonghwa, wait --"
Jungshin let out a sigh as the hand holding his phone fell away from his face. He looked entirely defeated, and you were almost too scared to ask. But you knew you had to.
"What?" you breathed.
Jungshin just barely glanced at you, and... wait, were his cheeks turning pink, or was the lighting in here just weird?
"I... I think..." he began. "I think we're being set up."
Your head jerked back in surprise. "Set up?" you asked. "What do you mean?"
"Yonghwa said they wouldn't unlock the door until we've had time to talk."
You wanted to laugh, but all the air in your lungs had suddenly vanished.
What was he talking about? Who was 'they'? Until you had time to talk? About what?
"So, I'm guessing Emily asked you to help clean up and take those," Jungshin nodded toward the open washer with your napkins inside, "in here?"
You simply nodded.
Jungshin nodded, too. "Yonghwa got me to do the same thing with the tablecloths."
With a small shake of your head, you were finally able to take a breath and say something. "So, you're saying that Emily and Yonghwa... locked us in here together on purpose?"
"Yep."
Sure, that's what you'd been about to think not even a minute ago. It almost felt intentional. But to hear it said out loud? And have Jungshin confirm it? This was crazy!
"...But why? Talk about what?"
Deep down, you knew exactly what you needed to talk about. You just wouldn't admit it unless Jungshin did first.
Instead of answering you, though, Jungshin let out a deep sigh and turned on his heel, walking toward the other end of the closet.
You watched as he ran his hands over his face before turning around once he got to the wall opposite you.
"Talk about what?" you repeated shakily. He was only making you more and more nervous!
His gaze met yours then, and you held your breath.
"Talk about us," he answered.
Your first instinct was to play dumb, so that's what you did. "What about us?"
A wry but also embarrassed smile tugged at Jungshin's lips, and he chuckled dryly. "Okay, maybe just me then."
"What are you talking about?" you asked. Guilt crept into you as you heard the impatience in your voice, but you really needed him to be straightforward right now! Something was holding you back from telling him the truth (that 'something' being 'fear and anxiety'), and if he just told you how he felt, you were confident you could be honest with him, too.
"I still have feelings for you, okay?!" Jungshin snapped. It was obvious he had also heard the impatience in your voice and was only feeding off your anxious energy.
A tense cloud filled the space between the two of you. You could hear Jungshin breathing heavily, and your heart hammered inside your chest.
Words kept forming on your tongue, but every time you opened your mouth to say something, you lost your nerve.
So, finally, after probably two or three minutes, you said, "Can you turn around?"
Jungshin, god bless him, granted your request with no further questions. He turned around to face the wall, and you found yourself following suit, turning to face the door.
You took a deep breath, resting your forehead against the cool wood of the door. "I think I have feelings for you, too, I just don't know if getting back together is a good idea."
You squeezed your eyes shut, anticipating the sound of Jungshin turning back around and walking toward you.
But he didn't. His voice was a bit muffled when he asked, "Why not?" so it was obvious he was still facing away from you.
"I don't know," you told him truthfully. "I think I'm just scared of breaking up again. I don't want to go through that a second time."
You hadn't ever said this out loud, not even to Emily (though she knew, anyway), but the past few months had been rough. You'd known your decision had been fully justified and was a totally valid reason to break up with someone. You'd known it was the right decision in the long run for your mental health. But your heart had still been absolutely shattered.
I mean, you'd changed your flight so you wouldn't have to be on the same airplane as him, for goodness sake! Yes, you'd wanted to avoid as much awkwardness as you could, but you also just hadn't been ready to be in the same space!
"Do you remember," Jungshin began, "when I said that I would regret losing you for the rest of my life?"
Your throat tightened with emotion. "Yes," you croaked.
"Does that sound like I would ever let us break up again?"
...Well. He had you there!
You heard him moving, so you turned your head to the side to glance at him. He had, indeed, turned around to face you, the most earnest and adorable expression on his face.
"I meant everything I said at dinner last night," he assured you. "All of the things you said when you left, I took them to heart. I'm learning from my mistakes. And when I said I was working on becoming a better partner... I meant for you."
You had also turned to face him as he'd been speaking, your forehead wrinkling deeper and deeper the more he said.
Jungshin took a couple of steps forward before continuing. "I didn't come here to try and get back together with you," he clarified. "But I figured I would just let the chips fall where they may and see what happened."
"And the chips fell on the airplane," you muttered.
"Yeah," Jungshin chuckled. "I saw you, by the way. But I could tell you were trying to hide from me, so I pretended I didn't."
You rolled your eyes as you breathed out a laugh and shook your head gently at yourself. "But then I physically ran into you, and you couldn't ignore me any longer."
"No," he corrected, eyebrows raised. "I wasn't ignoring you. I was trying to be considerate of your feelings."
Your gaze fell, landing on your feet because you weren't sure you could look him in the eye when you said, "You're right. I was the one ignoring you."
You heard shuffling footsteps, and you saw the tips of Jungshin's shoes come into view.
"And you had every right to ignore me," he acknowledged, his voice soft. "In fact, you could ignore me forever if that's what you really wanted."
A fleet of manic butterflies had taken up residence in your stomach, and you still couldn't quite bring yourself to look at him.
"Is it?" he asked. "Is that what you want? Because if it is, just tell me, and I'll --"
This got you to raise your head, your gaze snapping to meet his. Wordlessly, you shook your head.
Before now, you hadn't been sure what you really wanted. Had you known you'd definitely fallen for him again? Yes. Had you admitted that maybe you hadn't actually ever stopped loving him? Pretty much, yes. But the idea of getting back together had, as you'd told him just a few minutes ago, been too scary.
As soon as Jungshin had suggested you could ignore him forever, you realized that would be impossible. Even if you wanted to -- which you didn't -- you couldn't ignore him. You couldn't ignore the connection the two of you had and would always have.
You felt all of your emotions bubbling up, your eyes welling with tears. Happy tears, frustrated tears, sad tears.
"Come here," Jungshin whispered, reaching out and pulling you to him. He lifted one hand to cradle the back of your head while the other slid around your back, holding you firmly.
And just like that, your thoughts from earlier today of curling up against his chest and burying your face in his neck and feeling his arms around you and being overwhelmed by his scent became reality.
Honestly, 'overwhelmed' was the best word to use because that's exactly what you were at the moment. It was overwhelming to be in Jungshin's arms again -- so much so that the tears which had welled up in your eyes were now spilling over.
You sniffled, and Jungshin began patting your back. He nestled his cheek against your hair, murmuring into your ear that it was okay.
"Cry if you need to, baby," he said in a soothing voice. "It's all right, you're safe here."
His words made you lift your head just enough to look at him, your eyebrows knit together in confusion.
"Who are you?" you asked with a watery chuckle.
Jungshin smiled as he tucked some hair behind your ear. "I'm me but better."
That was certainly the truth. The Jungshin of old wouldn't have said those words out loud. He had comforted you when you'd needed it, of course, but never like this.
...And you weren't going to lie. Hearing him call you 'baby' again made you feel as if flowers and rainbows were bursting out of your heart.
So, you pressed your face back into his neck, sliding your arms around his waist and clutching his shirt tightly in your fists.
Tumblr media
Who knows how many minutes later, once you'd emptied your emotional reserve, Jungshin leaned back and searched your face.
(You really didn't want to know what you looked like at the moment, even though you knew Jungshin had seen you in much worse situations.)
"You good?" he murmured as he cupped your cheek gently, swiping his thumb under your eye and across your cheekbone.
"Yeah," you whispered with a tiny nod.
Jungshin leaned in and pressed a soft but quick kiss on your forehead before reaching into his pocket to retrieve his phone. As he called Yonghwa, you took the opportunity to cuddle against him once more. You felt him wrap his free arm around you, his hand coming up and gripping your shoulder.
How did this still feel so familiar? You hadn't hugged or cuddled him in what felt like so long, and yet, now that you were, it felt as if no time at all had passed.
"Hey, come unlock the door," Jungshin muttered. You felt the vibration of his voice in his chest against your cheek, and it sent a shiver down your spine.
"Yup," he continued. And then, with a single hum, he hung up. "He's coming. And you don't have to tell him anything. Actually, you just go get your bag and go back to your room. I'll handle Yonghwa."
You simply nodded, though you could feel your cheeks already starting to warm at the thought of seeing Yonghwa -- or Emily -- or anyone -- after what had just happened. Normally, you wouldn't appreciate someone telling you what to do like Jungshin just had, but in this case, going to get your bag and then going back to your room was exactly what you needed.
Not even a minute later, you heard the telltale sounds of keys unlocking the door. Instinctively, you stepped away from Jungshin, not wanting Yonghwa (or Emily, or anyone!) to make any assumptions about what had happened in this closet. You had nothing to be ashamed of, of course, but still. You didn't like being the center of attention in any situation!
As soon as the door opened, Jungshin gently put a hand on the small of your back and made sure you were able to leave first. You quickened your pace, feeling his hand fall away from you before you heard him say, "Dude. That was not cool."
You couldn't help but chuckle softly to yourself as you made your way over to the table where you'd been seated for dinner, snatching up your bag and then making a beeline to the elevator.
A hot shower and a plush bathrobe sounded so good right now.
Tumblr media
A very long, deep sigh escaped your lips as you flopped back onto your bed about half an hour later. You were clean, refreshed, and cozy after showering and changing into your pajamas -- now it was time to get even cozier under the luxuriously soft covers of your hotel bed while you watched a fluffy rom-com on TV.
Just as you reached for the remote, your phone lit up with a text.
From Jungshin.
Are you still awake?
You quickly replied that you were, and then you anticipated his phone call. This had been a regular occurrence during your relationship: he would text you to make sure you weren't sleeping, and then he would call you for a nightly debrief to talk about your days.
But instead of a phone call, you just got another text.
Can I come to your room?
Oh. He wanted to talk in person.
It totally made sense because the two of you had admitted to having feelings for each other, but you hadn't actually decided verbally to get back together. Since tomorrow was the wedding, it did kind of feel like 'Now or Never.'
So, you sent back a message saying he absolutely could and included your room number.
As soon as he sent you a thumbs-up, your immediate instinct was to get out of bed, put on actual clothes, and take your hair out of the messy bun you'd thrown it into before your shower.
But you stopped yourself because this was Jungshin we're talking about. He'd seen you with and without makeup, hair done and not done, dressed up and dressed down, healthy and sick. If he cared what you looked like, then he definitely would've broken up with you a long time ago!
So, you simply stayed snuggled under the covers until you heard a knock on your door.
You shuffled over, letting out a deep exhale before opening it.
Jungshin barely gave you any time to process his arrival before he stepped inside and slid his arms around your waist, pulling you tightly to him.
"Oh," you chuckled, your arms instinctively winding around his neck. "Hi."
"Hi," he murmured, squeezing you gently and lifting you just slightly off the ground.
You figured he would put you back down and let go of you after a couple of seconds, but he continued hugging you for what seemed like a minute or two.
"All good?" you finally asked softly.
Jungshin let out a groan as he set you on the floor and unwound his arms, stepping back enough so he could look at you.
"All good," he answered. "I just missed you."
His words made your heart flutter and your cheeks warm; you were too shy to say anything back at the moment, so you simply ushered him over to your bed so you could sit and talk.
Unsurprisingly, Jungshin sat right next to you, though the two of you angled yourselves so you could sit more face-to-face. But Jungshin had always been a pretty affectionate boyfriend, so he made sure his knees were touching yours, and he almost immediately put a hand on your leg.
"So," he began. "I realized that we kind of left things up in the air. I mean, not really, but --"
"Yeah," you agreed.
Jungshin raised his eyebrows a bit and said slowly, "So... are we... back together?"
You bit the inside of your cheek, taking Jungshin's hand off your leg and holding it in both of yours. Your heart flipped at the feel of his fingers grasping yours.
"On the condition that we leave the past in the past, and you never, ever apologize again for why it ended," you told him, your gaze fixed on your hands.
Jungshin squeezed your hand before answering with, "Deal."
"And I promise I won't bring up the way it used to be and use it against you, even if I get really, really upset," you added.
A frown pulled at your lips when Jungshin gently extracted his hand from yours, but then he curled it up into a fist, sticking his pinky out toward you.
Your frown quickly turned upside-down as you did the same with your own hand, hooking your outstretched pinky around his and bringing your thumbs up together to stamp the promise.
As soon as you let go, Jungshin ever so delicately tackled you back onto the bed. You had barely shrieked in surprise before he settled in, cuddling up next to you while still half-pinning you down.
"Okay," you chuckled, pulling one arm out from underneath him so you could comb through his hair with your fingers. "I guess you're staying here tonight?"
Jungshin simply hummed and then pressed his face into your neck. His breath against your skin raised goosebumps all over you, and then when he inhaled quickly, preparing to say something, it made you shiver.
"Is it weird to say that I missed the smell of your soap?" he murmured. "And is it also weird to say that I'm glad you didn't change the soap you use?"
"No," you laughed. "In this situation, I don't think it's weird. It would be if I'd never met you before in my life."
Jungshin's breathy chuckle made you shiver again, but then he promptly lifted his head up to look at you.
"Wait, I got ahead of myself," he stated, his brow furrowed.
"What do you mean?"
"We made our pinky promise, and we stamped, but we didn't seal it with a kiss."
A smile burst onto your lips, but you tried to hide it with an astonished gasp. "Oh, my, you're right. That's critical."
You watched as he hoisted himself up onto his elbow, lifting his other arm up so he could cradle your cheek.
And when his lips met yours?
Tumblr media
If you'd had any doubts up until now (which you hadn't, of course, but hypothetically), this kiss would have crumpled them up and thrown them out the window.
Remember when Emily asked you on the phone just yesterday if you were sure about coming to the wedding, and you had answered that of course you were sure?
You couldn't help but feel that maybe, deep down, you'd known this would happen. Deep down, you'd known that a part of you missed Jungshin. That a small but essential piece of you had gone missing when you'd left him and hadn't yet been found. And because you knew all of this deep down (deep, deep down, if you were being honest), that's what made you sure you were doing the right thing.
Well, that and because Emily was your best friend, and you would've only missed her wedding in the event of a dire, tragic, and inescapable emergency.
Speaking of Emily...
You were really not looking forward to telling her in the bridal suite tomorrow morning that her little 'Lock Them Together in a Closet' plan had actually worked. She'd never let you forget that she (and Yonghwa) were the reason you and Jungshin were back together! You'd made a pinky promise with your former ex-boyfriend to leave the past in the past, but your best friend certainly wouldn't make such a promise.
But what else are friends for, right? They're for supporting you in your time of need. They're for showing up at one of the most important events in your life.
And they're for locking you in a closet with your ex-boyfriend so the two of you will finally realize you're still meant to be.
Of that, you were sure. Absolutely, positively, completely, and utterly sure.
