I watched this movie months ago and I only got around to drawing them now (due to peer pressure)

I kinda like but dislike that Rumiko and Sunrise (and fans) have never even mentioned that miko (priestesses) are virgins. And that their shinto ability to tend holy places comes from being unmarried virgins. In modern day I guess it is not really required but I kind of wish more people analyzed Kikyo, the dark priestess, Kaede and Kagome in that light.

Personally I think that due to the era Kagome would not be allowed to remain a miko after getting married and having a child. She would still be one of course due to her spiritual ability, but I think she would no longer be allowed to remain in that societal role.

Kagome is so spunky though that I see her rebelling against it. I think Kagome's strength in being outspoken is another great contrast between her and Kikyo. While Kikyo was confined by society and was only freed from expectation when she became an impure monster. Kagome was outspoken and loud to where she didn't have much of a societal role and yet remained 'spiritually pure.'

There is a huge theme of 'societal expectation' in Kagome, Inuyasha, and Kikyo that I think being a miko is a part of.

Personally I'm torn on Kagome loudly choosing to get married and have a child VS remaining a Miko and Kagome choosing to attempt to do both.

Mizuki's height is said to be Gegero's eye level..so around 10cm shorter. Which mean he can be 165-170 ish cm

(fyi Sada Keiji, the actor Mizuki's design is based on, height is 173)

Gegero's height once mentioned in light novel of 2018 Kitaro's series to be around 180 cm. So glad we get to know his exact height

Everyone already know Gegero is thin, but they even draw his ribs sticking out. Total opposite of the muscly Mizuki

There are talk about storyboard of the story such as what this character feel in this scene such as Mizuki's fast eating habit, Osada's last cut, the meaning of Gegero's line when he said I've waited for you to Mizuki, Gegero entrust his wife to Mizuki scene,..etc

I'm not typing it all because my mind is too filled with Gegero's underwear.

Oh and Kozo is child of concubine

Visitor can choose audio guide for the exhibition. With Mizuki, visitors will be treated as guest and he'll be in work mode. With Gegero, visitors will be treated as someone who lost their way and Mizuki will act differently because visitor isn't his guest now.

The voicelines promotion for parco exhibition at Ikebukuro is pretty good. Mizuki in salesman mode and Gegero suddenly appear. They're pretty casual with each other according to fan's reviews.

Gegero voice is lighter and higher than the tone he use in movie. Jp fans said that's how he sound like in all new voicelines. That make sense if it's his normal voice and the movie one is his much subdued tone because he's been separated with his wife for years.

This Blu-ray DVD promotion ver. Kitaro's father can be used as reference to hear how high and cheery he can be. If the link isn't available anymore it's because they're privated.

Anyway, I think this cheery Gegero isn't strange because in the end he's that cute Medama Oyaji.

I love the contrast between Mizuki deep/heavy voice and Gegero's high/light voice. Mizuki can be pretty brusque while Gegero is much gentler. Gegero's laugh is fufufu (eigamura voiceline) so I think Mizuki's will be louder than him because they're always opposite. Not to mention he's showa man, so the image is he will laugh with mouth wide open

Edit 25/6: Kitaro's mom height including the heels, is around Gegero's eyes. So she's a bit shorter than Mizuki. Her right eye is 潰れ (crushed?)

Edit 27/6: At the last room of exhibition is where sculpt (?) of baby Kitaro birth, visitor can see his hand coming out of the grave. Gegero said he love this place the most, most reviewers pointed out this is his kindest and gentlest voice. And I just discovered this room also has the 6 bonus illustrations framed, it's no wonder Gegero love this place the most...not only it's when Kitaro is born but there's images where.. they're all alive and well, as if they survive the village intact and his wife is still alive. I can't....this is so tear jerking.

Road Trip AUgust

A Inuyasha, Legend of Zelda, Swtor, World of Warcraft, Wildstar, Urusei Yatsura, and Fairy Tail crossover for @promptsbytaurie event AUgust 2024 day 8 road trip AU, featuring my original characters.

A group of families from New York are on a road trip across the USA. The first stop on the road is Hocking Hills in Ohio, and the families park their RVs at the camp site. The younger children run to play in the playground as their older siblings and parents set up the camp, with Inuyasha, one of the fathers, moving a table with his daughter Moroha as his wife Kagome get the food ready.

At their camp site, Charlotte Hyrule hold her phone up as she try to get a signal and she ask her mother Zelda while her father Link is put the heavy stuff up, "Mom, where can I get a signal for my phone?" and Zelda tell her older daughter, "Charlotte, the whole point of this trip is to not be on your phone." and Charlotte is spechless.

Meanwhile, Charlotte's young sister Sonia check out the camp with sisters Towa and Setsuna. The camp look nice and it has a swimming pool, but some parts of it look a little old.

At the Mirsan family camp site, the twin girls Kin'u and Gyokuto laugh about the green hair boy Kitaro Moroboshi as he try to start a fire for his little sister Nyoko and her best friend Nasha Dragneel. At the table, their younger brother Hisui is playing a card game with Michael Shan, Ash Dorne, Petra Spar, Kevin Piece, Max Revel, Samson Cadera, and Tao Yaza.

At his family RV, Gramakk the orc read a guide on Hocking Hills as his wife Zanawe put their son Kokdutu to bed.

The next day, the families get ready for a day in Hocking Hills, with Juliasa making sure that her teenage daughter is okay and to not act like her father Crual.

On the park, the families travel around the sites and the girls take selfie of themselves in nature.

Back at the campsite, the adults make plans on where to go next and Inuyasha said to them, "Why don't we travel on Route 66?" and the adults look at each other about the idea.

Soon, by the morning light, the RVs travel on the famous Route 66, starting at Chicago, Illinois. The families first explore the famous sites at Chicago for three days before they hit the road again. While traveling in Illinois, they see the Gemini, the town of Springfield, and Dixie Travel Plaza.

The RVs arrived at Missouri, and they see the World's second largest rocking chair in Fannig, Red's Giant Hamburg, 66 Drive-In, and Ted Drewes on their journey.

The RVs arrived at Kansas, where the families visit Baxter Spring Independent Oil and Gas Service station, drive through Rainbow Bridge, and visit Williams' Store as well Kan-O-Tex Service Station.

The RVs arrived at Oklahoma, where the families visit Blue Whale of Catoosa, Pops restaurant, Round barn, Milk Bottle Grocery, Rock Cafe, and Foyil Filling Station.

The RVs arrived at Texas, where the families visit the Leaning Tower of Britten, Cadiliac ranch, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, and U-Drop Inn.

The RVs arrived at New Mexico, where the families visit Blue Swallow Motel, El Rancho Hotel & Motel, and Maisel's Indian Trading Post.

The RVs arrived at Arizona, where the families visit Wigwam Motel, Standin' on the Corner Park, Jack Rabbit Trading Post, and Meteor City.

The RVs arrived at California, the last stop of Route 66. In California, the families visit Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch, Cucamonga Service Station, Aztec Hotel, and Los Angeles.

In the Los Angeles hotel, the adults start their plans for the road trip back home and the locations to visit.

Mio is a shorty but still much taller than her dad lol. She's a clever girl and has more of her auntie's sassiness than her mother's shyness. Noa is laid back like his dad but also super playful when motivated. He tones down his big brother Hana's more aggressive side. Also he got one of the claws from dad's necklace, Hana got one too and Yoh kept the last. 

Lastly Anya looks mostly like mom but with a bit of dad's weird\creepy side. She's usually nice but don't make her mad... She's got a lot of work keeping all these future punk humans and PO'd spirits from wrecking the world so her patience only goes so far, lol... XP

okay so im not sure if i already told you about the cross stitch bookmark (i might have i can’t remember) but i finished that and then i made us commemorative taylor swift tickets bc we’re seeing her in march and it sucks that now when you go to a concert you don’t get physical tickets to keep and we both like those kinds of momentos so i designed them and printed them on cardstock and laminated them and everything and they look so good!! im really happy with how they turned out 🥺 and then i made her two tshirts with memes (kind of) on them that i think she’ll really like 🫶🏻 it was so funny making them bc my mom was watching me do it and she kept laughing and saying we were both dumb (affectionate) djshsj

I honestly wasn't able to get a good look at the shop at all because it was so so crowded. There was a long long queue and we were standing there for one and a half hour before we got to the counter. My university is in a different state so I live in the hostel on campus and I'll be going back on the 1st for my 2nd semester. I'll be looking forward to going back to the shop when I'm back home again when the semester ends

Back when i still watched a little tv sometimes, we used to get animax on cable and i watched k-on and spooky kitaro for a short while but it was not dedicated watching or anything.

So after watching GGGnK episode 95, my reaction was like....'WHAT...THE...HELL'??!! Some part of me was nailed on something horrible was gonna to happened in this week's episode....but this was unexpected twist! and yet, Mana's fear & breakdown hit me the most in the whole episode. lets all hope the last two episodes makes up to it a little bit more lightly. Btw in one scene on preview-96 i was wondering: 'Are we going to see Kitaro's mother (Iwako) next week?!'

While it’s painful to watch, I really like how Kitaro’s apparent death is mirroring Neko Musume’s from the previous season. Mana’s distraught state and loss of hope also mirrors Kitaro’s when he thought Medama Oyaji was dead - only she doesn’t have Nezumi Otoko to snap her out of it. Rather, he abandoned her!! From one schemer to another, I do hope his vengeance is secretly aimed at Nurarihyon rather than the humans Kitaro hoped to join hands with.

In the meantime, will Neko Musume be the one to bring Mana to her feet? Agnes?? Rei!!!??!?! Seriously where is that boi? Either way, I’m confident it’ll all work out somehow ^^;;;

It’s funny, the second I saw this screenshot my brain went ‘THAT BETTER BE KITARO’S MOOOOOOM’ because how beautiful would it be if she were the one to guide him back to the land of the living? As a member of the Ghost Tribe, it would make sense that she’d have that ability even in death. I’ve been foaming at the mouth wanting to see her animated this season.

It’s now or never Toei!!!

At first glance, some may assume it’s actually the Shinigami (grim reaper / god of death) who made an appearance in episode 66 of this 2018 adaption. In standard Kitaro lore there are hundreds of Shingami responsible for reaping souls that all look alike, so even though Kitaro defeated one, he can easily encounter another. However…

the 2018 Shinigami has a sort of grainy appearance to him, covering both his skin and robes. The robes we see in next week’s preview picture are clean however, and seem to be cut for a slimmer fit in comparison to Shinigami’s attire. So! I’m thinking it probably isn’t him.

The possibility of it being Nanashi DID cross my mind, but… after being purified by Mana, I think it’s unlikely he would appear in his ghoulish form again. And as with the Shinigami, Nanashi’s robe is much looser than the mystery character in next week’s epsiode.

So my bets are in! It’s Iwako!! GIVE HER TO US TOEIIIII

B-T fan returns to Japan 2015 - part 1: the setup

There once was a time when this blog post would have been a tale of a recent trip. 7 years later, this blog post is a story from yesteryear. I have a folder of photos I already prepped to share. I just never bothered to write up the tale.

There once was a time I lived in Japan with my grandmother and my uncle. Both are dead now. The house has been torn down. Yet, whenever I go to Japan it’s to do a 里帰り (sato-gaeri) trip, a trip home. (Sato implying countryside, a return to the hometown is a return to the countryside.) I stay with my other uncle and am generally bored out of my mind as the adults gossip about family. As more time passes, more relatives fight and I’m restricted from yet more relatives I haven’t seen since childhood. I wonder why I used my money and vacation time away from work to be bored. People think going to Japan is exciting. Japanese think going to Okinawa is a vacation. For me, it is neither. I’m not at a resort. I’m not at the beach. I’m not in the big city. I’m not even going anywhere new. I’m hanging out in a living room in the suburbs, having McDonald’s brought over for breakfast everyday, watching that same damn guy on every show on every channel. It can be downright annoying. No more. It’s time for a 大都会帰り (dai tokai-gaeri), a return to the big city. (My made up phrase.) Or that time I thought I was going to die so I went to Japan to see The Mortal perform live.

I don’t have any specific reason, other than perhaps I was not getting enough sleep each night and was commuting a couple hours everyday in an area heavy with vehicular traffic and thought I was going to get into a bad accident, but I had an overwhelming feeling that I was going to die and soon. Around the same time, Buck-Tick announced that Atsushi Sakurai had a new side project called The Mortal and they would play a handful of shows. I haven’t seen Buck-Tick live since 1997. I told myself I wouldn’t let 20 years pass without seeing them again. I feel like I’m going to die. I need to go back to Japan and see The Mortal. I have to. Ever since the Tohoku earthquake in 2011, I’ve started talking again to my old B-T friend who now lives in Tokyo. Good excuse to see her too. Would she want to go too? She hasn’t been to a Buck-Tick concert since 1995. This would be an opportunity to see things I’ve always wanted to see. But there are so many places I’ve wanted to see because we never sightsee. We just spend a couple days in Tokyo before we go visit relatives. There’s a place that seems interesting to take children but I don’t have children. A friend tells me I don’t need children to go there. Just go. I take time off work. I buy a plane ticket. I buy concert tickets. I plan what I’m going to do each day. But there is this guilt. I can’t tell any family members because I’m not going to Okinawa. I’ve never gone to Japan by myself. I’ve never gone to Japan and not visited family. I am feeling an incredible amount of self-generated pressure. But my mom just went back to Japan with her boyfriend to visit where he’s from and she didn’t see her family. Screw it. I tell her I’m going to Japan and not going to see family. She couldn’t care less. My mind is blown. They give me a transit card that has a little bit of yen left on it. My girlfriend is going to take care of the dogs while I’m gone. This is really happening.

First, Buck-Tick adjacent or non-Buck-Tick things I did. It was November so I thought it would be cold and changed my clothes in the airport bathroom then headed straight for some Gegege No Kitaro sightseeing. I’ve always loved that show. Damn, the store I really wanted to shop at is closed. I should’ve looked up their hours. I’m starting to realize it’s not cold at all. I started sweating and had to take off a layer of clothing. The creator of Gegege No Kitaro is Shigeru Mizuki and he’s still alive. My trip concludes, I go home, and Shigeru dies. 4 years later in 2019, there would be a collaboration with Buck-Tick where their song is used in the show and there is merchandise sold with the members drawn in the style of the show.

I pack my days so full of things to do that there isn’t much room to breathe. I do leave some room to hang out with my friend. I check in with her and every time something is going on, she invites me to join but I don’t always join. I stay in a hostel dorm and am the first one up each day and the last one back in the room each night. Everyone is asleep and I get up. I get back and everyone is asleep. I really crammed in as much as I could each day because I felt my mortality creeping up on me and I was alone. No family obligations. Go, go, go!

My friend wants to check out the Kawaii (cute) Monster Cafe. I’m not into cute. I’m into cool but sure, let’s check it out. I check out some temples and shops in Tokyo. I run into the crazy cat man of Shinjuku. I check out a town in Saitama. I go to Disney Sea in Chiba for my birthday because I’ve never been. I go to Tochigi and walk until my legs almost fall out in Nikko. I go to Kanagawa to see the Daibutsu of Kamakura (great Buddha statue) and watch yabusame (horseback archery) on the beach. Could that day be more Japanese? I’ve almost seen all of Kanto now!

One day my friend takes me to a party with an interesting assortment of characters. Another day we go to a gathering with an even more interesting assortment of characters. One person is an artist from France. He doesn’t speak Japanese but one person speaks some French. So we’re communicating in Japanese via the volunteer translator. The French guy speaks English so sometimes just the two of us are speaking in English. I am starting to realize that this is a great trip. The youngest one there asks me what I think of Japan, perhaps forgetting for a moment that I’m half-Japanese--it happens a lot. I say that since perhaps my last trip some years ago as an adult, I’m seeing for the first time that Japanese can be kind. My childhood was not so nice. It was perhaps too honest and too real for such a casual question. She apologizes, perhaps on behalf of all Japanese, perhaps even for a time when she wasn’t even born yet, and I can see how awkward this could be. Even more awkward, I’m coming to a realization that almost of my bad childhood experiences were with my own people and it wasn’t even Japanese being mean to me, if we want to draw the line between Okinawan culture and society vs. Japanese culture and society. No time for a self crisis therapy moment. Anyway, I mention I also plan to visit Takasaki in Gunma and this person is from Maebashi, Gunma. They say that anytime they wanted to do anything, they would go to Takasaki. My friend and I are perplexed because Maebashi is the capital city of Gunma so surely there are things to do. No, nothing. Maebashians go to Takasaki. One night, I see a mouse in the subway. Probably going to his job as a sushi chef.

My friend and I walk around to see some Christmas lights (illumination). I’m pondering when did this become a thing. When I was kid, there was no illumination, no Halloween, etc. in Japan. You just got a cake from KFC for Christmas. More and more Western culture creeping into Japan in strange ways.

I go to one place and the owner is friends with Takanori Nishikawa from T.M. Revolution and there’s some Buck-Tick connections there but I don’t ask about the owner’s friendship and any celebrity sightings. Just a matter of fact thing. One shop is having an Okinawan fair so there are Okinawan products for sale. I buy some shikwasa juice because I always drink it when I go back to Okinawa. And here I thought this trip would be without shikwasa. I go to another place and there’s cats that just hang out there. There’s a glass of water just for the cats (labeled in Spanish) so don’t drink it unless you want babas.

While I’m visiting, there’s a terrorist attack in France. So many people left flowers at the French embassy.

I see a couple a dentist office named Imai and an apartment/condo complex.

Rukia goes to the fridge, yawning as she opens it and looks inside, searching for something to stuff her face with.

“Good morning mom!” Kazuko grins at her and sips her coffee.

Antoine comes up behind Rukia and hugs her, kissing her neck tenderly “How’d you sleep?”

Rukia pulls out some waffles from the fridge and puts it on the counter, turning around and hugging Antoine back “Good, cause you were there”

Antoine kisses her softly, and then whispers in her ear “The day is coming closer....”

Rukia tries not to show her nerves, giving Antoine a look “We managed to stay together every time, this time will be the same way, right?”

“There’s still the possibility.....”

“Guys, you wont believe- Oh- I’m just going to....” Kitaro runs in, excited but his face goes red at Antoine and Rukia just kissing in the kitchen. He turns around. 

Rukia smiles “No its okay-”

“You’re just gonna make out infront your daughter, damn, okay” Dante strolls in.

Kazuko looks up “Im 16!”

Antoine glances at Dante “Ykno you’re right” Then he turns to Rukia, kissing her forehead “We can continue later”

“Nuuuuu I want cuddles

She reaches out to him.Dante sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose “Somehow that’s actually worse....” Kazuko rolls her eyes and then goes back to sipping her coffee.“So what did you both burst into our apartment to ask, eh?” Rukia asks.Kitaro shows them his left hand, grinning. On the ring finger was a slim gold band. Dante grins and blushes, “I proposed....”Rukia squeals with excitement, gushing over the ring.“Finally! After what- 17 years?” Fudo Osaki, Rukia’s brother, walks in.“You too?” Antoine raises his eyebrows at him.“With all the noise you crazies are making, why not?” He crosses the room to Kazuko and then whispers “Tell your dad to stop bullying me”Kazuko sips her coffee “Nah.”“Wow not even for your own uncle?” Fudo feigns mock surprise. Kazuko sips her coffee “Nope.”Fudo rolls his eyes and tousles Kazuko’s curly hair.The whole family sits around the living room, a buzz of excitement going with talks about the new engagement.“I almost thought he wouldn’t....” Kitaro blushes, twisting the ring on his finger.Fudo raises his eyebrow “So you’ve been dating for 17 years but you still thought he didn’t want to spend a life together with you?”Dante pulls Kitaro into a hug “Awh, don’t worry, I love you okay?” Kitaro kisses his cheek “I know....”Tommy looks up from his tablet, where he was arranging a new music piece “So when are you getting married?” They suddenly get quiet, having not actually decided when they would have their wedding. And then they remember. It was the tenth year.Everyone else seemed to realize too, a resounding silence settling over the room. Kitaro clears his throat “We haven’t been separated before, guys. We always managed to stay together.....” he stands up and walks over to the door, looking out both ways before locking it “As long as we remember to end up in the same end of the Ring before midnight, we’ll be alright.”Christian looks down uncomfortably “We didn’t always stay together, Kitaro... We were split up and never saw her again.”Fudo’s eyes go wide at Christian, then they take on a deepset sadness, from years of suppressing this memory. Tommy gives his twin a look “You didn’t have to bring that up, Chris.”Christian closes his eyes, looking pained. Rukia’s eyes fill with tears, Dante and Kitaro look uncomfortable.Antoine tries to break the pained silence by clearing his throat but it was clear that no matter how many years went by, that memory would always be a stain of hurt on their history.
