Freminet spoke with a hushed voice, staring intently at the toy penguin he held in his lap. The walls weren't particularly thick, and he knew if he spoke too loud, his siblings would overhear. Still, he was used to keeping his voice low whenever he rambled to Pers about his day in his room.

"It was just a forehead kiss, so..." He paused, looking out the window as he thought. "...Maybe she just meant it in a... friendly way. Do friends do that?... M—maybe it's a difference in culture..."

His habit of talking to Pers was nonsensical, he knew. He was a toy. He couldn't hear him or respond, but Freminet had always found it comforting and somewhat cathartic. Pers was his friend; that's what he firmly believed. And even if it was silly, he liked to think he was listening.

"...What if it's not?" The boy mumbled, looking back down at Pers. "What if she meant it in... that way?" He couldn't tell if the thought made him happy or extremely anxious. Perhaps it was both. "I... I don't know what I should do. I—I can't ask her something embarrassing like that..."

Freminet went silent and curled up when he heard footsteps coming down the hall. It was likely just one of his siblings heading to the kitchen or living area, but he still eyed the door warily, not wanting to be walked in on when he could feel how his face hadn't gone back to its normal colour yet. If they saw him blushing like this, they'd know something was up. He couldn't even imagine the teasing he'd be subject to if they found out what had really transpired.

Eventually, the footsteps subsided, and Freminet sighed in relief. He sat in silence for a few moments longer, gazing down at Pers and fiddling idly with his little mechanical flipper. "...I've never felt like this before," he whispered, leaning his head against the wall. "It's nice, but... scary."

He sighed. "...I'll, um... try to talk to her about it." He said, taking a deep breath and hoping it would make some of the heat rush from his face. "Next time I see her... I'll... try to bring it up, somehow. Maybe... Maybe it's just a misunderstanding. Or maybe..."

"..."

He stared at Pers. Pers stared back. "...I—I'll... I'll ask."

She didn't know why she loved this place so damn much. Maybe it was because she built it from the ground up. Maybe it was because she could hide in plain sight, in a way. Maybe it was just simply because it was fun. But she loved it, like it was a piece of her own heart. She loved her staff, she loved working with her friends, she loved dancing, and mixing drinks. She loved almost all of it.

Paperwork and being in her office wasn't always the best but she'd do it when she had to. Sometimes she moved out of her office and spread paperwork across the bar top so she could. Other times, she left it for Clint.

Today she was doing paperwork.

Coffee in hand, laptop on the bar, and papers spread all within arms reach, she was balancing books and making sure payroll was caught up, including actually paying herself. Humming along to the music she threw on in the background, she heard footsteps behind her.

"Hey, sorry we're closed until later."
