Pathanamthitta collector – A role model!

How many of you have heard the name Divya.S.Iyer? No, she's not a silver screen celebrity. Divya.S.Iyer is the collector of Pathanamthitta district, of Kerala where the Sabarimala temple is located.

A couple of days ago, she was honored with the “Excellence in Governance” award by the Home Minister Amit Shah. She was one among the 18 collectors who was presented with the award, chosen from 404 district collectors across 29 states of India.

So, isn’t this just another routine award? What’s different? Divya S Iyer was in the news recently when she got into the bad books of the Communists and intellectuals in Kerala. Let me tell you why! Being the Pathanamthitta collector, she was invited to an event in connection with the beginning of Sabarimala pilgrimage season in December 2022. This immediately became a controversy with a section of the Kerala government criticizing her for this saying that she was on official duty, and she was not supposed to be a part of the prayers and the rituals there. You must remember that this is the same communist state government that sent its Christian minister to Vatican on government expenditure to witness the canonization of Mother Teresa. Muslim comrades are also allowed to practice their faith and even talk about it publicly.

But when it comes to Hindus, the rules change. Recently the Devaswom Board (the board that manages state temples) minister K.Radhakrishnan was seen at Sabarimala Sannidhanam during the pilgrimage season. See this photo to know what I am talking about!

The man was staring straight ahead, as though he was confused about to do! He didn’t have the courage or the decency to bring his two palms together in front of the deity. Many Keralites would remember how the Kerala CM mockingly asked pointing towards the Guruvayur SriKrishna deity – “Is that where Krishnan is?” when he visited the temple.

In a state where mocking Hindu rituals and culture has become a daily affair, Divya.S.Iyer comes as a breath of fresh air. Lok Sabha 2024, Congress list of 39 candidates out, Rahul Gandhi fielded from Wayanad, BJP reacts

Ahead of the Lok Sabha election 2024, the Congress has finally released its first list of 39 candidates including former party boss Rahul Gandhi, who has yet again been fielded from Wayanad in Kerala.

Among other prominent names who have been fielded includes parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor, who is contesting yet again from Thiruvananthpuram constituency.

Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is to contest from Rajnandgaon parliamentary seat, an area where former CM and three times BJP CM Dr Raman Singh has quite an influence.

“I am grateful to the party high command including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for giving me the ticket from Rajnandgaon”, he said.

Congress has highlighted the fact that out of 39 names finalized to contest, 61 percent of candidates hail from SC/ST/OBC/ Minority communities.

While 31 percent of these candidates are less than 50 years of age, 52 percent are below 60 years of age.

Activist Girish Babu who filed plea against Kerala CM's daughter found dead, cardiac arrest suspected

Several public interest petitions filed by him have created a political stir in Kerala. The cases, including the Palarivattom flyover scam and the 'monthly payments' allegations against Veena Vijayan.

KOCHI: Activist Girish Babu (47) was found dead in his home in Kalamassery on Monday morning.

According to the police, the preliminary investigation behind the death suggests he died after a cardiac arrest. Girish was undergoing treatment for health-related issues, which he also published through a Facebook post last month. The police reached Girish’s house and started the inquest proceedings.

Girish has been living with his family in Kalamassery and it was his wife who found him dead in the bedroom this morning, police said. “It seems like a case of cardiac arrest. However, we can reach a final conclusion only based on the autopsy report,” said a police officer.

Several public interest petitions filed by Girish have created a political stir in Kerala. The cases, including the Palarivattom flyover scam and the ‘monthly payments’ allegations against Veena Vijayan, daughter of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, hogged headlines recently.

He moved to the Vigilance Court in Muvattupuzha, seeking an investigation into the alleged bribe paid by Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd. (CMRL) to Veena Vijayan. However, the court rejected the petition recently. Following this, he moved the High Court to hear the case. Girish’s death came while the court was about to consider his petition today.

Girish, who sought the probe citing revelations by the Income Tax Interim Board of Settlement (ITIBS), New Delhi, named the CM, and UDF leaders Ramesh Chennithala, P K Kunhalikutty, and V K Ebrahimkunju in the petition, claiming they, too, received bribes from CMRL. Veena’s company, Exalogic Solutions, CMRL, its MD S N Sasidharan Kartha, chief financial officer K S Suresh Kumar, chief general manager P Suresh Kumar, and cashier K M Vasudevan were also been named in the plea
