Nippon Steel’s $14.9 Billion Bid for U.S. Steel Faces Delays as Security Review Resumes

[Source – investing.com]
U.S. Steel faces delays as security concerns prompt the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to allow Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel to refile their $14.9 billion merger application, pushing the decision timeline beyond the November 5 presidential election, according to sources familiar with the matter. The extension offers both companies a chance to address CFIUS concerns, particularly regarding national security and the steel supply chain for critical U.S. industries.
CFIUS initially raised concerns on August 31, suggesting that Nippon Steel’s acquisition of U.S. Steel could jeopardize the supply of steel necessary for key sectors such as transportation and agriculture. With the new refiling, CFIUS now has an additional 90 days to thoroughly review the potential impact of the merger.
Political and Industry Reactions
The merger has become a politically charged issue, with both presidential candidates weighing in. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, has publicly expressed her desire for U.S. Steel to remain “American owned and operated,” echoing the position of President Joe Biden. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, Harris’ Republican rival, has pledged to block the deal if elected, citing concerns over U.S. steel production and jobs.
Legal experts, such as CFIUS attorney Nick Klein, note that pushing the decision past the November election reduces immediate political pressures but does not ensure approval. David Boling, a former U.S. trade official, emphasized that the deal still faces obstacles beyond the CFIUS review, including securing an agreement with the United Steelworkers Union, which opposes the merger due to national security concerns.
Union and Global Concerns
U.S. Steel faces delays as security concerns are raised by the United Steelworkers Union, which strongly opposes the deal, citing risks to both the steel supply chain and national security. The union reiterated its stance on Tuesday, stating that Nippon Steel’s acquisition would lead to a reduction in domestic production capacity and make the U.S. more vulnerable to global competition, particularly from China.
Meanwhile, Japan, a key U.S. ally, is closely monitoring the situation. Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Moriya underscored the importance of strengthening economic relations between the two countries, including increasing mutual investments like Nippon Steel’s bid.
Steel Supply Chain and Economic Implications
EU clears Nippon steel’s $14.9 billion bid for US Steel
youtube
U.S. Steel faces delays as security concerns were highlighted in CFIUS’ initial letter to the companies, noting that Nippon Steel’s acquisition could harm the U.S. steel supply chain and reduce U.S. Steel’s likelihood of pursuing tariffs on foreign steel imports, potentially impacting American industries reliant on steel. Nippon Steel, however, responded with assurances that the merger would bolster U.S. Steel’s domestic operations, pledging billions of dollars in investment and promising not to transfer production or jobs outside the United States.
As the 90-day review continues, the final decision could come in December, with options ranging from CFIUS approving the deal with conditions to mitigate national security risks, to recommending that the president block the transaction altogether.

"Wow Okuu! It sounds like you're really important. To think my dear pet bird has gone on to become the key to a goddess's plan to gather unlimited faith. It just makes me oh so very proud!"
Of course Satori did not understand much of what Kanako was doing but she did understand it'd been quite beneficial to the underground. The new source of power was oh so convenient. Plus it made Okuu far stronger than her fellow crows.
"You're really good at the impersonation game. Okay, how about this, who am I? Oh wow Kanako-sama you're the greatest! In the galaxyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Huh? Oh no! My frog pin is dirty! I'll need to clean it off with my patent pending Moriya shrine frog pin cleaning juice!"
Satori that was not a good impersonation at all.
"That weird purple lady? She's okay I guess... Talks too much about stuff I don't care about. A-hem..."
"Nu-clear power is the FUTURE! Once everyone has free energy, we'll get ALLLLLLLL the faith! And YOU, my dearest Raven, are the key to it all! Blah blah look at my shrine maiden she's cute blah blah frog goddess isn't a frog at all." Is that snooty, condescending tone supposed to be Kanako? The cadence isn't even right...

I’m pretty sure the game titles are also fairly straightforward, despite the choice of words: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil: the sky turns red, and there’s a vampire. Perfect Cherry Blossom: yuyuko wants to see the cherry tree bloom (gone wrong). Imperishable Night: kaguya makes in nighttime forever. Phantasmagoria of Flower View: yuuka is there. Mountain of Faith: moriya shrine is built on top of youkai mountain. Subterranean Animism: there is a nuclear reactor underground. Undefined Fantastic Object: nue’s power makes the key to makai appear as little ufos. Ten Desires: Toyosatomimi no Miko has the ability to hear the desires of the heart, of which most people have ten. Double Dealing Character: seija kishin. Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom: the moon people. Hidden Star in Four Seasons: okina matara (the absolute, ultimate, secret, hidden god), makes her servants do something that causes the seasons to go all wonky. Wily Beast and Weakest Creature: man, it turns out, is actually the weakest creature, and the protagonist gets japed by a wily beast. Unconnected Marketeers: a bunch of people all over gensokyo are selling cards.
Touhou manga titles
As we know touhou games titles can be pretty convoluted, but the titles of the manga only seem to be the same way, while actually being pretty direct:
Eastern and Little Nature Deity - the fairies live in Gensokyo (in the East), are small, and are the embodiments of nature
Strange and Bright Nature Deity - the fairies are pretty wacky (and arguably not the brightest but we’ll let it slide)
Oriental Sacred Place - the fairies now live behind a shrine
Visionary Fairies in Shrine - to reiterate, the fairies live behind the shrine (one of them actually in/under the shrine) and they’re full of ideas this time
Silent Sinner in Blue - it’s Yuyuko, she’s sneaky and wears blue
Wild and Horned Hermit - Kasen’s a hermit, and she’s wild and horned alright (but you’re not supposed to know that until the finale)
Forbidden Scrollery - there’s a scroll and Kosuzu’s not supposed to read it (spoiler, she does it anyway)
Cheating Detective Satori - Satori detective, how much more to the point can you get?
Lotus Eaters’ Sobering - okay, this one’s an exception, they don’t eat any lotuses, nor do they have any intention to sober up as far as I’m aware

A Masterlist of Pokemon Masters Japanese Voice Actors/Actresses
(11/6/2021 Update: Added Allister and Darach’s seiyuus! Sorry for taking a while!)
(11/27/2021 Update: Added Sonia’s seiyuu! It was based on the leak, but judging from the recent update of showing characters’ seiyuus when you set the text and audio to Japanese, it might be accurate.
And speaking of Pokemas update of showing the seiyuu when you changed the text and audio to Japanese, that certainly makes my job easier to identify the seiyuu, though at the cost of this post losing some of its purpose. But hey, at least this post helps people who cannot read much of Japanese (me included) and people who want to know their notables roles, I think.)
(12/6/2021 Update: Added Tina’s seiyuu! According from Bulbapedia, she is voiced by Takagaki Ayahi, though there does not seem to be any official confirmation from the official account yet, as far as I know. It is probably accurate, but if her seiyuu turns out to be another person I will change it.)
(12/27/2021 Update: Added Lucas, Galactic Grunts and their commanders, as well as Looker’s seiyuus! It’s from the leak. If anyone can find information about the seiyuu for the Team Rocket Grunts from the previous Villain Arc, please let me know!)
If you play Pokemon Masters, a huge seiyuu nerd, and play with Japanese audio (like me), you probably recognize a lot of the voices in the characters. That’s because...well, Pokemas basically has so many famous seiyuus playing as our favorite characters there.
Unfortunately, neither Bulbapedia nor TVTropes have complete seiyuu list for the characters. Thankfully, because of the recent Nintendo Dream October 2021 issue that came with Character Guidebook, we can finally and officially know who is voicing who, at least up until the newest Howling Shield of Eternity event!
I’m going to put the seiyuu list in the Read More below due to its length, along with their MyAnimeList / Wikipedia link so you can check their other notable roles. I will also add a bit of trivias that might be interesting for you to know (like how Rosa’s seiyuu is the same like her B2W2 animated trailer, or how most of the Galar characters share the same seiyuu like in their Twilight Wings counterpart).
I will sort them only based on their regions. There are some special cases, such as: 1. In case of Caitlin I will place her in Unova category instead of Sinnoh. 2. Lance, Koga, and Giovanni will be placed in Kanto. 3. Janine will be placed in Johto instead of Kanto, since she took over Fuchsia’s Gym in Johto games. Please note that all of this information is from the Nintendo Dream issue. If there is any new character being added in Pokemas, don’t expect me to know who the seiyuu is immediately because, well, I don’t know! At least not until there is an official confirmation somewhere.
For Blaine and Plumeria’s seiyuus, unfortunately I cannot find any English links about them that list their other notable roles. If anyone can find links about them, let me know and I will add them! If you notice any mistakes (spelling error, wrong links, etc.) please let me know as well!
So, without further ado, here it is!

Summary under the cut.
sorry i cut out the fluff and focused on the main story
⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆
Same night The one who called Akane in the last part of the previous episode turns out to be Masayuki. Akane asks to meet up with Masa tomorrow so they could talk.
Next day, early morning Masa wakes up and sees that Nagisa still hasn't come home. He was about to leave when he comes across Reijirou who was making bentou for their practice later. He explains the situation to him and heads out. Rei was gonna follow him but he was already out of sight when he went out the door.
Rei opens up his laptop and hacks into the mainframe to locate Masa's phone using GPS(?).
--later--
Yuusuke reads fan tweets / replies on his phone, most of them expressing their sadness and disappointment due to the scandals coming out. Kakeru snatches the phone away from him, and found tweets from other fans defending Stellar CROWNS and expressing their belief in them.
They found the bentou on the table, with a message from Rei saying that he and Masa will be out looking for Nagisa.
⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆
QUEEN RECORDS building The guard told Masayuki that Nagisa didn't come to the building, and that no one came last night.
QUEEN RECORDS indoor parking area(?) Masa receives a call from Yuusuke, but gets cut off because his phone ran out of battery. He looks at the clock and sees that he has 50 minutes left before the arranged meeting with Akane, so he sets out for the meeting place.
⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆

Mizuki answers that he really believes what he said. The two begin practice, and Nagisa only looks on.
