He held onto her tightly as they made their way topside, his arm heavy and warm on her shoulders, hers firmly around his waist. They were both laughing and humming the tune of a popular song, occasionally bursting into the words, off-key and out of sync. It only made them laugh harder. 

The stairwell opened to the deck, blasting them both with chilly air. Inej couldn’t help the shiver that stole down her back and Kaz pulled her closer. “Are you cold?” he asked.

“No, she replied, and made no move to get away from him. It would be highly inappropriate here, on the deck, should anyone see them, but she wanted to hold onto the moment a little bit longer.

Together, they walked towards teh first class entrances, still singing occasionally. Above them, the stars glittered in a carpet of black, as bright as the city lights in Paris or London. Brighter, as far as she was concerned. She broke away from Kaz to stand at the rail, leaning on it as she tipped her head back to look at the sky.

“Isn’t it magnificent?” she said with a content sigh. With the motion of the ship beneath her and the sky above, she could almost forget where she was. And who.

He joined her, facing towards the ocean rather than the ship, pulling a packet of cigarettes out of his pocket. He lit one with a match, taking a long drag off of it before offering it to her. She took it, letting her lips close around the place his had just been, and inhaled.

“They’re such small people, my crowd,” she said after a moment, taking another hit from the cigarette before handing it back to him. “They think they are so big, giants among men, above everything and everyone else.” She signed and turned to face out with him, seeing nothing but the stars and the occasional lift of the water far past them.

“Someday, the bubble will burst,” she finished her thought. “And it will all come crashing in.”

Kaz said nothing and handed the cigarette back. She took it with the hand opposite him, and he laid his hand on her free one. “There’s been a mistake,” he said. Before she could ponder his meaning, he continued on. “You’re not one of them. Never have been.”

Inej snorted, exhaling the smoke into the night. “I suppose I haven’t been,” she allowed.

Across the sky, a bright light burst into being and streaked across the sky. Inej pointed, the cigarette still in her hand. “Look!” she cried. “A shooting star!”

“Make a wish,” Kaz said. There was a softness to his voice that drew her attention, and she found him close at her side, mere inches separating them. He hadn’t looked when she’d pointed, he couldn’t have. Not to be looking at her the way he was now.

She wanted so badly to close the distance between them, stretch her neck just a little and find his lips with hers. Thoughts fired through her head almost as fast as the shooting star had been. She wanted to kiss him, and to be kissed by him, and then –

Inej cleared her throat and leaned away, looking back out over the ocean. “I can’t,” she said, feeling herself starting to close off again, parts that had been awakened by Kaz and the dancing. She took one last pull on the cigarette before throwing it over the edge of the rail, removing her hand from beneath his.

“Inej, wait,” he said. His hand shot out and caught at her wrist. It stopped her in her tracks. “Tell me –”

“I can’t,” she interrupted, yanking her hand free. She looked at him, framed against the sky in his borrowed white dress shirt, the jacket slung over one shoulder. She longed to feel his hair in her hands and the heat of his body on hers. She shivered and it had nothing to do with the cold night air. “Good night, Kaz. And, thank you.”

lets talk abt Inej, c-ptsd and how its ignored in non male hot charecters(shes hot but yk what i mean)

I wanna start this with a disclaimer. i know the auther didnt do racial stuff perfectly. im black and some aspects of jes were a bit icky. im not indian so cant speek to everyones experiances and will let the indian people talk for themselves.

anyway lemme start out with this Inej has trauma. as does wylan but we'll do that later. i feel like people only talk about Kaz's trauma becouse its big. its visable and more importantly it completes their morally grey babe and this isnt fair to the rest. we know from her prespective chapters that inej dissacosiates a lot. she describes it as going into a box or a hidden place in her head. she doesnt have the extream touch adversity that kaz has but she does have a reluctance to touch. and though it doesnt explore it much its implied that sexual touch is a huge no meaning even if kaz was able to do it she'd probably freeze up. and lets talk about the flashbacks that **she does have** i know kaz's ones are more...dramatic as are some of his other symtoms but i have several theorys (and theyre just that) about that. in case you dont remember in CK she gets taken by supprise becouse the smell of burned sugar triggers a flashback. and im glad the author doesnt goas in debth about hers becouse honestly graphicly describing rape does more harm than good. I do think that people ignore her trauma just becouse unlike for kaz it doesnt add to mr. undercut + trauma. for her its more hidable and lets face it. shes a girl and not The Dark Moody One tm

last thing i will go more into debth but kaz has PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder whereas inej has more of cptsd or complex ptsd. they show up differently and are from different sources

5 am thoughts about six of crows:

the reason i love this book series so much is not the idea behind a dangerous heist (though i do really love that). the reason i love it so much is because of the characters and their relationships.

looking at these characters all on their own, we got

kaz: a liar, a thief, a really fucking smart boy with a traumatic backstory and a cane, who did what he had to do in order to survive. someone with a physical disability, but who never gives up no matter what.

inej: the wraith, a girl that was abducted and sold to a woman who abused and enslaved her, who forced her to do unbearable things. a girl that moves and makes no sound, who seems to be able to defy gravity and is so skilled with knives and who believes so strongly in her saints.

nina: a grisha, a girl with unbelievable powers who was captured and then rescued by the same person, who made a mistake and then tried her hardest to make things right. a girl that loves waffles and fell in love with the person that was supposed to hate her.

jesper: a sharpshooter, a boy that dropped out of university because he loved to gamble and couldn't turn down a wager. someone who likes to joke around and cares for his friends and loves his father.

wylan: a boy that was resented and shut out by his father for things he couldn't help, who grew up rich and knew nothing of the life in the darkest parts of ketterdam. a boy that cannot read, but is so talented at many other things.

matthias: a witchhunter, a boy who lost his family at a young age because of the people he was told to hate, who was trained to hate and hunt grisha. a boy who caught a grisha and ended up saving her, who fell in love with a girl he tried his hardest to hate, who paid the price for a mistake she made.

they are all so very different; they are all their own person with their own story.

they are different puzzle pieces with all their ragged edges and yet still they fit together somehow and build a bigger picture. a picture that wouldn't be whole if you'd take away even just one of the pieces.

(cuz obviously no one died, can't remember that happen, everyone got their happy ending, idk what youre talking about)

idk man its 5 am, i haven't slept in like a day, i have no idea if any of this makes sense but i couldn't fall asleep without having written this down. a lot of things are probably missing but idc tbh.

Ah yes! I got into Six of Crows bc fanart kept popping up on my pinterest and it looked so interesting. I was absolutely smaked over the head when I read the book and saw they were all 15-18 cus the fanart (especially of Kaz) made them look 20-30. Kaz isnt a man, he is a literal child, sure a really traumatized one but he is still physically a child and should be cast by someone who actually looks 17 not a 30yr old pretending to be a kid *coughRiverdalecough*. Also Kaz is the first character I've ever seen with a really accurate portrayal of touch aversion and I just know that netflix is gonna completely disreguard that bc sexy 30yr old teens gets more watchers. When Kaz is described as "older than he is" it means hes tired and stressed and all the things that come with adult responsibility, not that he magically surpassed puberty and became sexiest man of the year.

A friendly reminder of what a 17 year old boy looks like

This this is a 17 year old boy. (David Mazouz he plays Bruce Wayne in Gotham and is 17 this is a recent picture) No, he does not look young for his age he’s a teenager, keep that in mind when you fan cast for Kaz Brekker or thirst after him. 

I do not want to here bullshit like “oh well Kaz should look older, he’s supposed to be hot” because he is described as being fairly attractive but he’s attractive for a 17 year old.  What is Matthias said? Kaz couldn’t be much older that him but his eyes were ancient. Seeming more mature and seeming older does not mean, taller, broader shoulders, a six pack and the jawline of a roman god. It means you can see the way someone carries the weight of the world. How tired and angry they look. Although he might be one of those kids who hit puberty a little early, he probably just has bags under his eyes and muscle tension that doesn’t mean he’s some fucking Adonis. His voice probably sounds broken and scratchy not deep and sexy. Inej probably thinks he’s pretty fine because she’s a teenager too. Don’t try to make Inej hot either she’s an acrobat and again a teenager she’s like 5ft and has no boobs. But that doesn’t mean she can’t be beautiful.

Now all this being said, I am still a fangirl I will not lie. I am *gasp* a teenage girl who fancies a fictional character from her favorite book because he’s wonderful, snarky, clever, and a sharp dresser. But if your like 25 and think about sexualizing any of the crows STOP. I do not want to see head canons that Kaz and Inej will get over their touch aversion in a few years (I want them to be happy but even then they probably won’t it’ll always be there) as an excuse for writing shameless smut. I think they have a fascinating relationship dynamic that has incredible potential to develop over the years and at some point they’ll be able to have sexual intimacy in limited doses. But for the love of god that’s not a reason for you to thirst after Kaz. What’s that people say? If you sexualize someone who’s younger it doesn’t matter when they’re older because you still wanted to fuck them when they weren’t. Also if you needed him to be older because “then he’d actually be hot” you obviously didn’t give a shit about his character which is what actually makes him interesting. So I don’t want to hear, “what if its someone’s fave?”

Thankfully this isn’t that big of an issue in our fandom, but with the coming of a Netflix show I figured I’d get ahead and make this. While I’ve only really seen it for Kaz on a few occasions it applies to all of the characters. Fight me on this I dare you.
