Here’s what we’re thinking we might see this month: Everything She Feared When a teen falls while taking a selfie at the edge of a cliff, the last thing she sees before plummeting to her death is Katie Harmon, the nine-year-old girl she was babysitting, looking down at her. https://amzn.to/403rwPX Happy Place A couple who broke up months…

I suspect the reason 2015 has so many is that I joined the book side of tumblr in 2015 and immediately added every popular book at the time to my TBR! I kept it up through 2016 then started moving away from that method of picking books haha.
However, I imagine this year I'll read quite a few more books published this year because I have a Book of the Month subscription and I'm trying to be good and read those pretty soon after I get them.

When Katie Met Cassidy by Camille Perri is a fun adult sapphic romance, and we need more fun sapphic romances in the world. It took me about a day to read the story of Katie, the Kentucky former show jumper who just got dumped by her Jonathan-Franzen-glasses-wearing male fiancé, and Cassidy, the butch lesbian who is trying to make partner in the next four years and doesn’t have the time to invest in anything more than one-night stands.
First, the bad. The writing was sometimes awkward or rushed for me. As a pansexual woman, I struggled a bit with Katie’s inner fight between whether she’s a lesbian or not, since she, the text, and Cassidy’s friends set it up in a very partitioned binary—there was no even remote attempt to bring up the idea that she could have had genuine sexual/emotional feelings for her ex as well as for Cassidy. That said, I thought that the questioning representation was good. Katie’s struggle to figure out what she’s feeling is realistic and portrayed well by Perri—with some drama, as Katie tries to figure out things, but with a reasonable amount of it, and also with a lot of related humor. It’s a realistic path to romance that doesn’t try and force any labels. Cassidy’s friends were fun to read about, down-to-earth and relatable and representing a broad spectrum of women who love women; and anyone who’s lived in a city has known and probably come to dislike a group of friends like that of Kate’s ex-fiancé. Overall, this is a fun, light sapphic romance that would be perfect for a trip to the beach.

10 books I want to read in 2019
@the-forest-library, thank you for tagging me, lovely! I'm a few months late and so bad at planning what I'm going to read, but here are a couple new releases I'm looking forward to and series I'm hoping to continue.
1. Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell - I'm already pretty sure it's going to be my best book of the year! 2. Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater - It's a beautiful time to be a bookworm when Rowell, Stiefvater, and Bardugo all have books out in the same year. 3. The Furies by Katie Lowe - Is it cheating if it's next in my NetGalley queue? 4. Puddin' by Julie Murphy - I've been waiting on the paperback, and it's finally here! 5. Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand - I'm a little worried it's been over-hyped, but I can never say no to horror. 6. Elysium by Nora Sakavic - This just, like, dropped out of a clear blue sky, but after All For The Game, I'll read anything she writes. 7. A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire - Next October Daye novel 8. Serpentine by Laurell K. Hamilton - Next Anita Blake novel (26? 26 is an insane number) 9. The Gunslinger by Stephen King - I'm way overdue to read this series 10. Sabriel by Garth Nix - Cheating again a little, but it's Forgotten YA Gems' BOTM
Tagging @shutupandreadtiffany, @soggywarmbooks, @paperbacksandpizza, @paper-stardust, @sleepy-being

What Is Culture Central?
Culture Central is where I'll be posting about ALL aspects of culture and the arts. The posts will contain articles on anything that influences culture in some way. This means art, literature, music, all manners of cultural topics will be discussed in relatively brief posts. Key word relatively. I suck at keeping things brief- but Ill do my best to crunch topics down into bite sized bits that shouldn't take more than 7 minutes to read at the most. Now, for the monthly preview. This month I may post about; the newest album released by punk-rock powerhouse "Rise Against", the impact and presumed goal of the media and what journalism embodies, the cultural impact of the Dakota Access Pipeline, my BotM (Band of the Month), Katy Perry, and any other topic that comes up and I feel I should post about. Be aware some topics mentioned may not end up being written about, this list is merely an idea of what's on my mind pertaining to culture at the moment.

Paula Hawkins has given us another entertaining read with Into the Water. "Nel Abbott is found in the river, an apparent suicide - the same place a young girl named Katie also took her life. A place everyone calls the Drowning Pool. Did Nel jump...or was she pushed? How will we find the truth in a town full of people with something to hide?." Hawkins has given us some great characters and a good story. The style is similar to the Nugent book I just read. We get a different POV and back and forth in the timeline. I expect to see a lot of this book on the beach this summer. #intothewater #paulahawkins #botm #bookofthemonthclub #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookshelf #books #booknerd #bookhoarder #bookworm #booklover #bookish #bookreview #bookclub #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookcover #bookhaul #bibliophile #igreads #goodreads #homelibrary #bradsbooks #bradslibrary #crimefiction #thriller
