"Flow Into the Ever-Thirsting Ocean"
Tumblr media
this reminded me of one of my ideas:
Once-prosperous civilisation had succumbed into obscurity and darkness, leaving behind only ruins whitened by time. These pale ghosts can be found all across the continent, hiding in forests, crumbling between rocks and adorning the never-ending greenery of grasslands. On the eastern coast one of the most prominent cities lied. Crithmum (referencing the plant Crithmum maritimum, known as rock samphire, sea fennel or samphire) also known as the city of sails and spirits. It was once the biggest trading port, connecting the Western part of the continent with all the other world. But now it's just weathered stones on the coastal cliffs.
After the Holy War, and the end of Dark Times all the cities were closed and detached from the world, so no archeological expeditions could be conducted. And after the lockdown was over it was this fallen city where archeologists headed first. They set a temporary settlement there, willing to spend years studying the mysterious ruins.
With time, the settlement stopped being temporary, and residents started calling it and surrounding ruins their 'home'. Only few of them were lucky to bring their families along, most created new. This way the town of Dust and Sea Salt was created. Dust and Sea Salt is a rather isolated town, they communicate with other cities twice a year at best, to share information and trade goods. (It's mostly bounty of the sea and rock samphire)
