 “What are you doing here so early? After last night, I thought you two would be dead to the world the whole day.” she teases, then goes to get a cup of coffee.

“Hey, Karen.” Buck responds quietly, not answering the question. Hen does it for him.

“Buck’s having a crisis. He slept with Eddie.” Hen says, and Karen turns towards them, eyes wide, but then the surprise turns into a smile.

“Well, finally.” she chuckles, reaching into the cupboard for a mug. “I thought it’d take them decades to figure it out.” she pauses, then frowns, turning towards Buck again. And he chooses to ignore that comment, because what the hell did she even mean? “Wait, what happened with you and Taylor? When did you guys break up? Did I miss some 118 gossip?” she asks, shooting her wife a questioning look.

“No, you didn’t, they’re still together..” Hen responds, scrutinizing gaze not leaving Buck. “He cheated on her.”

Me and @airlocksandaviaries watched Blade yesterday and all I have 2 say is that this man Does Not get enough love or attention.

So in the interim of me finding intelligent things to say about how well crafted the movie was, I bring u… some headcanons for mister Eric “Blade” Brooks:

His favorite food is mackerel over rice with green beans

He strikes me as the kind of man who would enjoy the experience of chewing on jerky

Blade likes jazz and can tell you the difference between its subgenres. Will he ever give you the opportunity for it to come up? Probably not

This man has 100% practiced his dramatic timing. He thinks it’s fun and he’s ecstatic every time he nails it. It’s VERY important to him, actually.

He prefers not to be called Eric. It’s something he keeps for himself, one last piece of that life he never got to have. It’s a gift from his mother; that’s how he chooses to remember her. You don’t get it if you haven’t earned it, and most people just /haven’t/.

Whistler took him to train under several master hunters— it was the best way to bring him into their world and use him with maximum efficiency. One of the regimens entailed resisting torture tactics. Whistler was there with him, narrating the lesson: “Can’t help the pain, ‘cause if ya bleed ya hurt. But the suffering? You gotta master that. Vampires get even a whiff and its chum in the water, you’ll get eaten alive. Don’t let a fuckin’ suckhead see you suffer.” He’s internalized that message, and you can see it when he laughs in the face of Frost and his clique.

Speaking of Blade and how he bears up under pain: The man is capital R Repressed. If he feels an emotion his instinct is to Channel it into something else. That’s how he was raised— and it’s part of the struggle he has with himself. Suppressing the bloodlust relied upon building the willpower within himself to resist a starvation of his nature. Anger becomes precision, sadness becomes anger, doubt becomes calculation. It’s all about discipline for him. He treats his hunger and his doubts as one and the same.

His blade is based on a jian/chinese longsword, and it was given to him as a gift. Like a rite of initiation.

I think that deep down when Karen offered him the serum to suppress his vampirism and live as human that he was scared, that there wouldn’t be an identity for him in being human, living outside of this war he’s fighting. He didn’t like what he was, but for him it’s all he has. He didn’t feel like he knew how to be human, so he didn’t try.
