OC-tober: Old OC. It’s Naoko! She used to appear in everything I ever drew in highschool and ended up in settings that ranged from magical girl stuff to RPG adventure stories to schools, but she was always a genius. She was originally inspired by characters like Ed from Cowboy Bebop and Kaolla Su From Love Hina, and used to be that kind of wacky random ‘vaguely animalistic child’ but mellowed out in some of the later stuff she was in. I want to give her a cameo in my current stories too, even if she’s just in the background, because she’s fun to draw. Even though I don’t do much with her now (the last thing I drew her in was well over a decade ago) she means a lot to me and gives me a comfy nostalgic feeling.

Look if there is an American that gives a fuck about our portrayal they're usually not the type of American we want to engage with anyway. How much anime uses us without naming us? Also, tell us you only watch and read English Language media without telling us you only watch and read English Language media. Japan? Fuckin' LOVES this shit.

Code Geass has Lelouch of the Rebellion has the Holy Britannian Empire (UK & America). Tiger & Bunny has Stern Build City (a superhero version of New York). Science Ninja Team Gacchaman has Ameris (also UK & America). Dorohedoro has a city called Hole that looks like the worst parts of the Bronx and Chicago mixed together.

Then you get shit like Riding Bean/Gunsmith Cats and Dirty Pair set in really distorted stupid wild 80s America stereotypes and those are considered beloved classics. So much anime uses the Wild West as it's generic post-apocalyptic 'well this is what it'd be like' generic setting, like Trigun or combo Medieval and Wild West future vibes in Vampire Hunter D. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Red Garden, Baccano, Chrono Crusade? Big 'we only ever saw America on TV' vibes.

And then they have TONS of fake countries for other parts of the world when they want to make something exotic but not specificially, say, Korean, Chinese, Phillipino, Indonesian, Indian, etc. Like the island nation of Molmol, where Kaolla Su (from Love Hina) was from, which was basically a mix of India, New Zealand, and Samoa. The nation of Uddiyana (middle-eastern/Tibetan mix) in the anime series Flag. Westalis (West Germany) and Ostania (East Germany) in Spy x Family.

We do not care. We have never cared. And honestly I think someone in Europe wouldn't mind if we wrote about Fuckifistahn if it meant we'd dodge specifically referencing a president that turned genocidal leader ten years after it was written.

"I hate how American media will just make up a European nation rather than do any research, so I'm going to get back at them by writing a story set in a fake American state" like, do you have the slightest idea how much American media is set in a geographically impossible fictional small town located in no particular state and characterised entirely by some guy from Los Angeles' collection of half-remembered stereotypes about the American Midwest? They've already got the "lazily inventing fictional parts of America" bit locked down.

No, if you want to play the Uno reverse card on American media, what you need to do isn't to make up a fake state: you specifically need to wilfully misrepresent southern California.

Ce jeu est sorti au Japon le 30 novembre 2000 sur la première génération de l’emblématique Playstation 1. Le jeu est développé par Konami et l’objectif est de récupérer des mots pour une des cinq héroïnes de Love Hina. On va pas se le cacher, sa notoriété n’a pas été très forte car il ne suffit pas de prendre un série manga à succès pour en obtenir une déclinaison commerciale fructueuse.

C’est un jeu d’action aventure à 1 joueur et mais c’est surtout un visual novel car le joueur se concentre essentiellement sur le développement de son personnage que véritablement sur le gameplay.

Synopsis : L'hiver a commencé à Hinata. Noël approche. Il y a des rumeurs à propos de cette veille de Noël particulière : si quelqu'un avoue son amour cette veille de Noël, tous ses souhaits se réaliseront. Keitaro décide d'avouer son amour à Naru. Il vit avec les cinq jeunes filles dans un immense manoir avec Naru, Shinobu, Kaolla, Motoko et Mitsune.

Mais il n'est pas le seul à l'avouer en cette veille de Noël... vous devre vous connecter à votre PocketStation et rassembler tous les mots (d’amour) pour conquérir le cœur de votre amour !

Le concept est donc simple : le joueur incarne donc Keitaro Urashima et il doit collecter et rassembler des mots. Vous pouvez vous rendre dans n'importe toutes les pièces du manoir et vérifier les mots que vous avez débloqués pour chacun des personnages.

Yeah honestly I don't know what that was about. Like, Anthy's plausibly desi, and I guess "Secret of Blue Water" Nadia's ambiguous, but what was going on with Kaolla Su and Mihoshi? Was that just a '90s thing? Is there some connection to the hyper-tanned gyaru/gal here? I dunno.
